kind of piggy backing off of my last few posts about kul’zak the wanderer, i want to note that in my au i had him rewritten as a woman.
we never really got to know who they were really meant to represent in canon, and i felt like there weren’t enough female divine warriors (literally 2) so i decided that kul’zak should be either a woman or non-binary.
i also made katelyn the reincarnation of Menphia. I know a lot of people already think this but if you actually look at Menphia, she was clearly meant to be represented by lucinda or maybe someone else we hadn’t met yet. I really really like lucinda but i feel like katelyn just makes more sense here.

Did any of the other divine have churches? Were they as funky as Irenes?
Tw: Cannibalism mentions, murder, torture, trauma, being assholes and disrespecting the boundaries of women, mentions of police brutality,
The other divine do have churches (excluding Shad, but he has his knights so he’s chill about it) and they’re varying levels of funky
Menphia’s is the least funky, considering her church is Tu’lan, and Tu’lan folk very much have the ‘follow the church, but question it when you believe it not to be right’ kind of mentality. Like they’ll follow the beliefs, but if there’s one they think is dodgy or off, they will ignore it and/or openly criticise it. And if their church ever had anything in like Irene’s church does, they would just flat out ignore it.
Kul’zak doesn’t exactly have a church. He’s just worshipped by travellers and has a few little places of worship set up besides popular travelling trails. They don’t really have many practices aside from praying for safety and… Y’know… travelling. The funkiest it gets is that the travellers do all they must to stay alive when travelling goes wrong. Including cannibalism.
Enki’s followers are sorta funky. Because they’re entirely devoted to knowledge and the gatekeeping of it. They would kill a persons if the wrong book fell into their hands and will take whatever methods needed to gain information. Including cutting people open, torturing them, and traumatising them deeply just to see how different they are afterwards.
Xavier’s followers tend to disrespect women’s boundaries (especially married women) and ‘chase’ them after they’ve been rejected because of the story of how Xavier and Irene got together. And the church doesn’t exactly reprimand those who are that way, and there have been occasions when they’ve justified, or even encouraged it.
Esmunds church is set up in Gal’ruk, mostly, and varies from area to area within the region, and has its branches in Ru’aun due to his hand in building the guard system. But his church is basically just a bunch of boot lickers and ‘blue lives matter’ folk. Not all of them, but the higher ups definitely have the mindset that if a guard beat the shit out of someone, they definitely did something to justify that reaction, and claim that there’s nothing wrong with the guard system at all. Which is a bit of a problem.
Summarising them makes them sound less severe than they are. But you get the general idea.

The Divine Warriors p.1
howdy here’s a post about the divine warriors in my rewrite. this is more of the religious aspect of them. part 2 will be more about them personally. feel free to ask questions!
Irene is the matron of healing, fertility, love, faith, rebirth, and life.
Shad is a symbol of death, decay, plague, destruction, and suffering.
Esmund is the deity of strength, protection, weath, stone, commerce, and smithing.
Kul’zak is the deity of stars, travels, land, weather, music, luck, and storytelling (along with enki).
Menphia is the deity of women, justice, wrath, fury, freedom, choice, and meifwas.
Enki is the deity of knowledge, truth and deceit, storytelling (along with Kul’zak), outcasts, and medicine.
The divine are worshiped in different ways by different people.
-Irene is worshiped by religious folk (mainly in ru’an) and people in the medical field. Really, everyone worships Irene in some way. They typically say a prayer while kneeling, heads bowed with their hands cupped towards the sky (there’s a belief that the rain is the matron’s tears, no one knows why she weeps though). Sometimes, religious extremists will willingly mutilate themselves to be “perfect” in the eyes of the matron. People pray to irene for blessing in fertility, love, life, and whenever they are struggling. She is the most commonly prayed to.
-There are still some mortals who still worship Shad despite it being illegal. When they pray to him, they often do so while kneeling on hot coals. if they are caught worshiping him, they will be promptly executed for their act of treason.
-Esmund is worshiped by guards for strength and people of power during wartime for protection as a graduation ritual, graduates of the guard academy will pray to Esmund while holding a piece of jewelry that is sentimental to them (something that belonged to either a mother or a lover) and they get a symbolic tattoo (idk what yet).
-Enki is worshiped by scholars. They often leave things related to knowledge behind after they pray to Enki (college students joke about leaving blood offerings to enki so they can pass their exams). schools and certain libraries will have shrines dedicated to Enki.
-Kul’zak is worshiped by travellers. They often pray before they leave for their travels and leave offerings to Kul’zak at every stop of their journey. Kul’zak’s followers build him little shrines at certain stops. Those shrines act as guides for fellow wanderers.
-Menphia is mostly worshipped by women and is seen as a symbol of justice amongst them. There's an old legend that once Menphia killed her own father to protect her younger sisters. Many women look up to her as a symbol of strength. women who are caught in abusive relationships will pray to her for the strength to escape. Meifwa in Tu’la will pray to her for safety from the king.
Many churches dedicated to the matron will have stained glass depictions of each of the divine warriors. They are each shown with a halo of light, portraying them as saints. In churches that date back to the divines’ time, there used to be one of Shad. Those were all destroyed, though.
There used to be churches dedicated to Shad but those were all destroyed. Rumor has it there is still one remaining. Nobody has found it.
There are smaller churches through out the specific region each divine warrior is from (except Kul’zak, nobody knows where they came from).
Tu’la has churches dedicated to Menphia and Gal’ruk has one dedicated to Enki (it’s more of a library than a church).
Churches that are dedicated to Irene will also teach about the other divine (mostly Esmund- especially in O’khasis).
The most commonly accepted and preached story of the divine warriors is that Shad was the villian and the rest were the heroes (more on that later >:3 ).
Everybody paints the divine warriors (especially Irene) in such a holy light where they do no wrong (minus Shad).
Little does the world know, the Church went on a little spree and burnt every single book (that they could find) that contained information that opposed what they believed about Irene. But they didn’t find all of them.
Maybe Irene isn’t as holy and pure as they thought.
Maybe the divine aren’t exactly as they seem.
:)

I think the Divine warriors should’ve looked more inhuman. Like something human adjacent but not really human. They once were human, but sometimes during their journey or quest, they changed.
I think it would reflect who they were. Irene had wings, she was the leader— the one who had the purest intent. She had healing powers. She was connected to humanity but disconnected all the same.
She was put on this pedestal. Her design fits well. the wings, glowing eyes, the marking covering her body. I think she should’ve had more than one out of wings, at most 3.
To me, Shad is an incredibly interesting character. He’s a tragedy, taken down by his own friends. his child had her life taken by the woman he loved and trusted. He lost himself and become a feared monster.
He would have horns, sprouting out of his skull. A physical embodiment of the magic coursing through his veins. His nails would be naturally stained red, the magic trying to take a hold but being held back by his will. He has perpetual under-eye bags. No matter how much he sleeps, they never go away. His eyes have a slight reflective sheen.
The other divine are harder to encapsulate or describe. In canon we have little information about them. Esmund was a protecter, Enki was the keeper, Memphia was the fury, Kul’zak was the wanderer. But who were they? There’s hardly anything on those four.
I’ll make another part once I get the time to research and theorize about the other members of the divine

(The OG draft was made Dec 5 2023, I’m now posting to post them and clear my drafts :p)
When the aro(ace???) takes over your writing and now half the plot ploint are based on parental issues
(RW that I sorta scrapped)
There was a riot and the lord of Irene’s village attacked her mother
Irene was shocked she held her mother in her arms
Placing her hand over the wound
Irene had learned she come easily pass through dimensions at will
One dimension she went to was the Aether
She learned healing magic and was soon branded with their mark
A mark that appear in her forehead
A mark of the sun with two rings
Angels wing as the people would say and five wings as the Aether people would say
As Irene placed her hand in her mother’s wound it slightly glowed a pure white and with that her mother was healed fully
Everyone was shocked
Soon her father came up to her
“Father, look! Mother’s ok now!”
She looked up at him in joy, hoping so would he but that was not the case
“You inhuman freak! What have you done?!”
Irene looks confused
“Inhuman freak?”
Why would her father say that
She just saved her mother
“Father, what do you mean? I just saved mother, aren’t you happy?”
“Don’t call me father! My daughter is not a mage freak! How did you even learn magic?! Only elves can do stuff this, you’ve become inhuman!”
“Father…what you’re saying is wrong, humans can lea-“
“Enough! I want you out of the village!”
“But fa-“
“Out!”
The people started to speak up some who agreed some who didn’t
This was to much for Irene
She was barely an adult and she was being kicked out of her hometown by her own flesh and blood
Irene looked to her mother who had gone next to her father
She looked at Irene with disgust
Irene knew what she had to do
She stood up and left
Those who wanted Irene to stay tried to stop her but to no avail
But where would Irene go now
I guess she would just have to travel and travel she would
She would go anywhere, helping anyone, and one day she came across a village
The people worried her about a man, near same age as her that lived in the woods
Where he went he brought corruption and destruction
Irene was curried about such boy
She went to the forest, she found him, yatta yatta, when it’s time for her to leave he follows along
The she finds Enki an Ender men, ender dragon, human hybrid
And then the path splits
She finds a man who can control all four elements - Esmund
OR
She finds a woman of fire and air (Menphia) and a man of earth and water(Kul’Zak)
OR
Opposite
Irene Aether - Shad Nether/Esmund Earth - Enki End
OR
(Since Esmund is protection Memphia would be Fury(offensive) and Enki would be keeper(staying to one place(most of the time) and Kul’Zak is the wanderer which makes sense)
TIMESKIP
An evil man, the lord of O’Khasis, starts taking over other kingdom
She and her other guards take this man down
OR
THIS SHIT JUST DOESN’T HAPPEN!!! This whole kingdom take down makes NO SENSE in the timeline!!!!!
REAL TIMESKIP
After Irene and others travel around a bit they pass by her hometown
She plans to show that she proved herself
HOWEVER
She comes the day of someone’s funeral
Who’s?
Her parents
They had died (How? No fucking clue)
Irene was devastated
She decided to split up the team for the time
Taking over the village
She made Scaleswind
The other has gone many different places
Enki to Gal’Ruk
Esmund to O’Khasis
Kul’Zak just wondered, leaving just of himself with Enki
Menphia had gone to Tu’La
And soon they faded away
Leaving behind nothing but there relics

“Kul’Zak the Wanderer….Human but not….Just what are they?”
Gotta love that funky moment where you are hyperfixated on a character in a series that is literally only ever mentioned like, one, and then never again so you basically oc claim ‘em and give ‘em better lore then the original creator :)

Divine Warriors' music taste
Kul'Zak - The Blasting Company, bluegrass, plays bad country music at 3 am to punish Shad and Enki for the screaming match they had last night at the exact same time of morning
Menphia - Hollywood Undead, and kpop. There is no in between.
Esmund - 10 cent emo bands like P!atD, and two (2) MCR songs (Welcome to the Black Parade and Teenagers). He listens to them because Shad does and Shad is Cool™️
Shad - Hollywood Undead, the Offspring, Skillet, knows the entire MCR discography start to end; hates that Esmund calls himself an MCR fan; they condemned him to the Nether for being an MCR gatekeeper :/
Irene - pop & kpop
Enki - Legally Blonde soundtrack

i feel like The Divine concerts are always crazy as shit, theres always some drama or some stunt being pulled by the band or some crazy shit happens in the crowd due to lack of concert ettiquete
Irene has def played a surprise break up song which is her very clearly being petty about Shad. It comes out later that night that Shad and her got back together. She also seems like the type to give fans kisses, think Nana Osaki from the anime Nana type vibes. She’s also def done some VERY suggestive dances and acts while on stage and will continue to do them without shame. Shes probably also been on stage either drunk or high off som.
Kul’Zak decides to have a pre concert qna over on twitter or som which ends with him calling someone an idiotic bitch due to them running a fan account of him and treating him like hes an illiterate child instead of the full grown adult he is and getting cancelled (first time thats happened its ussally everyone else getting cancelled)
Enki posts a story of him in irenes dressing room with the caption “new things coming soon. . .” mid album tour before deleting it as it starts trending. Enki & Menphia got caught making out pre concert by a fan w a VIP w backstage access badge who took photos and posted them immediately after. Needless to say that person got kicked out pretty quickly.
if someone throws something on stage and menphia gets up and throws it back at them 10x harder because it almost hit someone on the head and shes getting real pissed of people throwing stuff on stage ( she also gets controversy over this because it did, indeed, hit the fan who threw it in the first place, not in the head but it still hit them )
i feel like this is probably someones (dont remember who) yung gravy garroth leaking into my view of esmund since garroth is esmunds descendant, but you cant tell me esmund hasent been handed and or thrown bras during concerts. he takes em and asks if their sure cuz he knows bras are expensive asf, but he takes em. ussally washes and donates them afterwards, but its always funny to hear him yell thank you over all the loud music, theres complilation videos of it happening
its happened once or twice that a fan manages to get on stage due to security lacking and nothing is more terrifying than watching a 6’9 Shad grab the person by the arm and DRAG them towards security if they manage to get too close to someone with a death stare. Shads a pretty big and strong guy and intimidating, and is absolutely TERRIFYING when he uses that to his advantage.

Good Morning council it’s been a while
@xerith-42 @gonedreaminggg @cinnamontoastcroonch
I wanted to talk more specifically about what happens to certain SK characters after Shad’s eventual death, as well as the difference between premature and full shadow knights. i never really got around to this so i figured now is as good a time as any.
Ok first and foremost, full SKs:
I know some of you had liked the idea of full SKs dropping dead once and for all after Shad’s death, and at first I did too. But then I got to thinking. Technically speaking, they’d already earned their immortality. Yes the rest of their SK abilities were lost, but I like to think they remain immortal, a final gift of sorts from Shad due to their loyalty. Only issues? Well first off, they’re immortal, not invisible. They can still die, they just don’t age. Second, unlike PMSKs, they don’t have half a soul. They have no soul. They’re essentially walking husks of their former selves. They’re basically zombies, wandering the earth aimlessly, with one goal. Finishing their task. For most, like Gene, their task is fulfilling Shad’s wishes. Ie, killing Aphmau and her gang. So, if you were to approach them they’d be extremely aggressive, even if you had nothing to do with Aphmau. These guys would eventually need to be rounded up, they’re too dangerous to be left alone.
As for the few full SKs that weren’t loyal to Shad, (Vincent, Zenix, and Sasha) they’d also be husks, but they’d be non violent (Zenix… for the most part). I’m sure the Phoenix Alliance would probably try to find a cure for them, though I’m sure that’s unlikely.
Then we have the 2 PMSKs that actually died and were resurrected, Vylad and my oc Eseryt (i’m counting her bc she’s canon is my rewrite). Now the only reason they aren’t walking husks is because they never gained their immortality and thus still have the other half of their souls. Only thing is, half a soul has a tough time piloting a body alone. And so, they remain motionless and cold. Not dead, but comatose. Though they’re minds are very aware, moving a million miles a minute, panicking probably. They can very faintly hear and feel the things around them, but it’s muffled and far away. Eventually Eseryt is awoken by being given Kul’Zak’s relic (i’m sorry it’s not vylad 😬), the reason this works is because A) Eseryt is Kul’Zak’s incarnation and B) that relic contained a fragment of Zak’s soul, which was then bestowed upon Es. She’s awake, but less of herself, though not much less of a person, she now has more soul than most SKs.
Now Vylad is different. In order to wake him they needed to travel to the Yggdrasil Forest and convince the elder and council to left them have a sapling. This was very hard to do. The only real reason they eventually gave in was because these people had just vanquished the one thing that was a threat to all of them. Anyway, a ritual is preformed and Vylad awakens, also less of himself. He goes on to live a semi normal life, but one night while in a bout of sleeplessness, he unknowingly admits to Garroth that he wishes they wouldn’t have wasted the sapling on him and that he wished they would’ve just killed him. This absolutely shatters Garroth.
And on that cheery note! Laurance!
Now Laury is different. Not only was he premature, but he also never actually died. He was just transformed. Meaning, his body never needed to be resurrected. In the beginning he falls unconscious just like the others, but eventually he wakes up on his own. Though it is a slow process, taking weeks maybe even months for him to get back on his feet. When he first wakes he doesn’t know what’s happening. He’s feverish and scared and barely conscious. Eventually the fever leaves him and he’s left feeling like less of himself. More numb than usual. And he has to come to terms with the fact that he can hardly see or walk, that he’ll never guard again, and that his closest friends the past couple of years are both on their deathbeds and no one knows how to save them (he wakes up quite a bit before vylad and es). His only solis is that he’s finally with Aph and Garroth again, and he can finally meet his daughter.
I’m sorry that was a lot but I had to finally get it all out
thoughts? prayers perhaps?

BRO I THINK I GOT THE WRONG ACCOUNT SORRY AHAH
Are the rest of the divine warriors gods?
It’s chill.
And no, mostly.
Menphia was a witch,
Enki and Kul’zak were weavers (Kul’zak was also an avian but his wings got cut off)
Esmund was a magicks user
However,
Xavier was the child of a demi-god.
And Shad is the product of a God and a Demon. So.
