Warning ya'll this is gonna be a long post. But please join my descent into insanity, as I deep dive into the vague wormhole that is the durge betrayal pre bg3 timeline.
Before we start, it’ll help if you have context around the faerun calendar. There are twelve months in total, each having exactly 30 days. Additionally, weeks don’t exist in faerun. Rather months get broken down into chunks of time called tendays, which you guessed is literally just ten days. If that was too straight forward for you, don’t worry, they add in five extra days to the calendar that fall outside of the months (ngl I still have no idea where these are located) to make the full year 365 days.
Tumblr media
At the beginning of the game, the nautiloid crash occurs at 20 Eleasis. Which means, the game starts in the middle of summer. Obviously, the way you play the game is going to influence the speed of events, but for my playthrough I reached moonrise towers around 12 elient (total time being 22 days). When you get to moonrise, in Bathazar’s chamber you can find his journal that explains that Kressa (the crazy necromancer chick) managed to keep durge alive. This entry is dated “two tenday ago”. But in game, that makes no sense because we know that the nautiloid should have crashed around that point. So either Balthazar doesn’t understand how the Faerun calendar works (I mean same, my guy) or we have to change our frame of reference. I think its more likely that the implied frame of reference is the start of the game, 20 Eleasis (since the developers can’t control how fast the player goes).
Tumblr media
If true, durge was saved by Kressa around 1 Eleasis. Her vivisections took place after this in the following days. However, durge is taken away before the end of the following tendays (at least before 10 Eleasis).
Now when you talk to Kressa in the basement of moonrise, she states that she found durge only hours after they had been given the tadpole.
Tumblr media
In the fight with Orin, she states that when she attacked durge she carved out a hole for the worm (ignore the Half-Elf part, that's just from the moment Orin turns into durge during the pre-fight convo).
The part that we're missing is when specifically the tadpole was inserted into durge. But given how the game describes just how utterly fucked durge was, there's a high likelyhood that the tadpole was given to durge moments after their fight. Which if true, places Orin's betrayal at 1 Eleasis. Giving us twenty days till the start of the game.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The piece that threw me for a bit was this piece of the narrator's dialogue when durge examines the pod, stating that durge had no idea how much time had passed.
Tumblr media
But the blood in the pod is still fresh enough that Astarion is able to ID it as durge & in another dialogue choice if you examine the blood further the narrator states the blood hasn't been there long enough to rot.
I think this dialogue is more explaining that durge is actively being tortured by Kressa so time feels unending (kressa being the one who put them in the pod to begin with).
Tumblr media
I've seen in other posts that Gortash's draft memoir explains that Orin's betrayal occurred during or just around the crowning of the brain (I don't have a screenshot of that unfortunately). But we have to take that with a grain of salt because Gortash is the definition of an unreliable narrator.
Personally, I don't think he's lying though. Orin's betrayal occurred in moonrise and there's really no other reason that Orin and durge would be in moonrise that the game has provided. Not to mention, the warden explains the last time that durge was in moonrise, they never left.
Tumblr media
I don't think durge came to moonrise more then once given the fact that the warden, who had clearly been there a while, had no clue who they were. I find it hard to believe their identity would be kept under wraps had they been at moonrise multiple times. Employees have to gossip about something.
Tumblr media
I think its likely that Ketheric, Gortash, and Durge tamed the brain in the days leading up to 1 Eleasis (like ~20 to 30 Flamerule).
In summary, the dead three had a Phineas and Ferb summer vacation by deciding to create the cult of the absolute.
And yes if you are wondering this is how I look now.

I don't know about anyone else, but I never thought to interact with the Scarified Cultists guys on the Mind Flayer ship with Durge, but Durge's gets special stuff with them!

The fact one of the first things Durge can remember is what Kressa did to them is kind of awful.

I think a lot about Durge at the end of Act 2 going through it and having to shut down their feelings about their own problems all during the Mind Flayer Colony fight.
Durge has a number of wild revelations in that colony. The mind flayer pod, the memory about them being the first to be tadpoled, Kressa Bonedaughter and her particular nasty bit of torture. And they have no choice but to push their feelings down because they have a job to do. Kethric has to die. Thinking about how the necromancer's obsession with you was so bad it was affecting her relationship with her husband isn't going to help with that.
Only to get there and talk down their best wizard friend from killing all of them beforehand. Just after they finally got some sort of a lead as to what happened to them.
And then after the fight, Durge spending all night doing post-battle wrap up killing themselves as they try to comfort their friends. Only to finally stagger to bed to realize no one is around to help them with what they're feeling and going through.

hello new followers!
I've had a lot of new followers recently and I'm going to take this opportunity to plug my fics, because that's why I am here (between shitposts and rushed meta.) So! I'm going to do a game I've been threatening to do for a LONG time, and I'm going to invite other writers to do the same.
Rules are that you plug a handful of your fics from your current fandom(s), give a quick summary, and then put in 1-2 lines from comments as reviews. Because fuck it, self-promotion is fine actually.
The Portrait
BG3. 6.5k one shot, Enver Gortash/The Dark Urge. Lord Gortash requests a portrait of his paramour. The pay is good, the contract legitimate. It seems almost too good to be true... In pre-canon, a young artist takes a job from an upcoming player in Baldur's Gate society. "The voice was amazing, the descriptions are poignant without getting too far in the weeds, you show so much without telling explicitly." "if i could frame this fic and put it up on my wall, i would in a heartbeat! literally the definition of perfection"
Monster, Mine
BG3, 7k one shot. Enver Gortash/The Dark Urge. There is a beast haunting the city, and there is a tentative reaching of hands across the table. In pre-canon, Enver Gortash tries to find the truth of the Slayer. "This is a genuinely stunning piece of fiction." "Their poisonous codependency and joint descent into it is the absolute delight to read!"
Even if Love
BG3, 8k, short chapters. Multiple. Shades of love for The Dark Urge, Orin The Red, Enver Gortash, Wisteria Jannath, Sceleritas Fel, Kressa Bonedaughter, Lae'zel, Minthara Baenre, Sarevok Anchev and Araj Oblodra. Can be read individually, but they do build a narrative together. "it is a crime that AO3 only allows one kudos for a whole fic" "All so distinct and sharply observed, and such gorgeous writing throughout!"
Blood and Bone, Bone and Blood
BG3. 3.5K one shot. Ketheric Thorm/The Dark Urge A collection of moments between Bhaal and Myrkul’s chosen as they are bound together with Gortash as the chosen of the Dead Three. "It simply drips with style. Gorgeous prose." "Feral about this fic"
The First Leaf on the Tree after Winter
BG3. 9k, multi-chapter. Halsin/Jaheira. Background Wyll/Karlach. Their time was a century before, she thinks. What can they be, these old souls rooted in their ways, these observers of the world, these failed heroes? "All the kudos here. The ultimate kudos. Oh I really loved this." "I reached the end with a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes. so bittersweet and beautiful. I adore every word."
Breath and Rosewater
BG3, 20k, multi-chapter ongoing. Gale/Tav She has always loved music for many reasons; the patterns that present themselves, and the sheer joy of playing. Working out the fingering, and bringing joy to others. The breath before the first note. The freedom that comes from following your heart and letting it soar. He has always loved magic for every reason; the study of it, the power in it. The quiet contemplation of hours of learning, the thrill of application on the battlefield, and off of it. The understanding that comes from complete control of your craft. "most well-constructed intro paragraph that i've read in awhile—we get such a strong sense of glim, her expertise, her pride in her art, in just four sentences." "Oh this whole thing is so beautiful. i adore your prose."

I had a lot of feelings after Act 2 and wrote this in like 30 minutes.
The fire nearby burns hot, but Durge feels nothing but cold. It’s after. After Ketheric and Moonrise. After saving Aylin, Wyll’s contract and kidnapped father, and Gale. After Kressa Bonedaughter and his own blood coating a shattered pod. He sits in front of the fire, watches the others drag themselves into their tents, and doesn’t speak.
He doesn’t blame them, not really. They’re all exhausted. Wyll and Shadowheart are both pale-faced and red-eyed, looking tired and shattered. Gale has been pacing with a manic energy, muttering in short, jumbled phrases, too worked up to make sense. The others are trying their best, he knows, but in the awful chaos of this day, Durge and his old, forgotten horrors had been pushed to the wayside.
Durge sits frozen as the camp quiets and the fire dies down. He doesn’t move to replenish the wood. He can’t feel his legs.
Halsin is the last to go to bed. Durge watches as he leans down to crawl into his tent. As the flap begins to close, Durge’s hands begin to shake. He wants to scream.
He blinks and he’s standing in front of the tent. He doesn’t remember moving. He’s not sure how he got there. He’s not sure what he wants, only that he cannot stand even one more second of this.
Halsin pauses in the middle of closing the flap. “Yes?” he asks. “Did you need something?” Halsin waits, expression kind, but Durge doesn’t speak. Can’t.
I was tortured, he thinks helplessly, but cannot say. They tore me open and pulled me apart. Help me.
Halsin’s brow furrows and he rises to his feet. Reaches out a hand. “Durge? Is everything alright?”
“I—” Durge manages. “You said—,” Halsin’s hand curls around his shoulder. Warmth radiates from his palm, his fingers. He tugs Durge gently forward. “You said if I could bear them no longer—” Durge gets out before his throat closes again.
Then his legs are collapsing right out from under him, but it doesn’t matter because Halsin lets out a quiet “oh” and Durge is pulled suddenly against a firm chest. Giant arms wrap around him.
Durge blinks again and he’s inside the tent, on the furs, cradled like a babe in Halsin’s lap. “Oh, my heart,” he says softly. One hand comes up and wraps around the back of Durge’s head. Presses his forehead into Halsin’s neck. “It will be alright.”
And Durge closes his eyes and just breathes.

something in me wants to see durge standing over kressa's dead body, then them just going apeshit
no reason
I just think theyve earned it
Its not because of the urge at all, they just need to scratch the itch that keeps screaming at them and telling them to make mince meat of her. To pull her apart and leave her rotten flesh as nothing but an unidentifiable heap. She deserves this. They know it's not the urge, but the dull echo of a memory that no longer exists to them. their body is more or less the one driving them at all times, so this is nothing new
give my baby their moment

most of Lythe's scars are from the werewolf attack she had to endure when she was 9 btw. She only has two physical scars from Gortash and some more from Kressa
Gortash marked her from the inside, twisting her mind to be dependent on him while promising that she was more than what her father made her to be.
