Digimon Adventure{s} A.M.V. [Pre-view] ~ “Boku” / “Watashi” / “Someone Just for Me” {Part 2} [Previous Parts: 1] [As this is technically still a pre-view, it is Un-finished {For now}] featuring DUO/O.T.P.: ~ Koushiro Izumi + Yagami Taichi / KouTai {Koushiro x Taichi} / KouTai / Taishiro [Also seen: 2020!Sora, Adventure Chosen, Meiko, briefly]
Audio/Dialogue (C) Chobits & C.L.A.M.P DigiAdvs ( C ) T0EI.@nimation {This is a Fan-work, and no money is being made off this work. Be sure to support both of the original series too!}
Time Spent: About 3~ hours (or a little more) on 08/07/22 My Commentary:
I have a lot of Thoughts on how Koushiro feels towards Taichi, Actually {And also in reverse, though this is mainly Koushiro’s Point-of-View.} (This part will have just a bit of Taichi perspective too, though.)
I also have a lot of Thoughts on Adventure{s} wider LORE on a grander scale, but also as it relates to Koushiro’s whole canon.
I’ll probably go back and smooth this out later, but for now it’s doing what I want it to do, and hopefully you can follow along by reading the dialogue below: (Note: Contains starting spoilers for the originating series, Chobits, though the context in this part is quite vague, and happens quite early in series.)
Scenes used come from: - Digimon Adventure [Eps 6, 21, 24, 48] - Digimon Adventure 2020 [Ep 20; Koushiro-relevant scenes] - Digimon Adventure tri.: Saikai [Koushiro-relevant moment; non-spoilery] - Digimon Adventure Last Evolution: Kizuna [Adventure Chosen moments pre-final battle; Meiko relevancy] {Briefly} {It doesn’t necessarily spoil tri., but it’s a notable moment} It DOES spoil a significant moment of pre-final battle Kizuna w/out contexts} (Though 2020 is used, this is mainly meant as overall Semi[?] Canon-compliant, but 2020 Chosen can be in their own Time too...)
- Dialogue (Preview):
- As expected, there isn’t anyone in THIS CITY either.
- [THAT IS SOMETHING I “KNOW” WELL] Because, {I} [{Boku}/{Watashi}] am {ME} [{Boku}/{Watashi}].
{Note: In the J.P.N version, Koushiro uses “boku” as saying “I”, but Koushiro also speaks in overall rather formal/polite speech.} [This is the case in all current medias, including the newest “02″ movie, up until {supposedly} around the point of right about the Epilogue years] By then, he still uses “boku”, that is, but speaking just a bit less formally.] (In the originating series, the speaker is a girl using “Atashi”). (The rest of this ‘A.M.V’.s storyline will show itself in time...!)
[Extra Note: It is read in a storybook-like style, hence narration.]

Everyone was with “THAT.” They won’t awaken from the {FUN} [Dream] with “THAT.” The (TIME) they spend with “THAT” is a [Dream]. A [dream-like] “wonderful” (TIME).
“THAT” can make ANY(?) {W I S H} come [True](?)
“THEY” will make people happy by ‘doing what they want’
Because “THAT” isn’t a {Person}
Which is why “THAT” can [BECOME] a {person}’s [Dream]
BUT, there is ONE THING “THAT” CAN’T DO.
“THAT” can’t [BECOME HUMAN].
It can [become] a “replacement” for one, but never [BE] ONE.
- [THAT IS SOMETHING I “KNOW” WELL] Because, {I} [{Boku}/{Watashi}] am {ME} [{Boku}/{Watashi}].

Vadermon looked at Koushiro and said, "What do you want?"
Since Koushiro COULDN'T TAK, {Koushiro} showed by action. Determinedly {Koushiro} walked into the room and grabbed the bottle in front of the Digimon customer that contained {Koushiro}'s inquisitive heart. Holding it gently to {Koushiro}'s chest, {Koushiro} apologized to it inside of {Koushiro}'s mind, “I’m sorry for throwing you away, my inquisitive heart…” and opened the lid. The inquisitive heart returned to where it belonged, inside Koushiro. At the same time, the power of speech returned to {Koushiro}. “It was wrong of me to throw away my inquisitive heart. Not wanting to know isn’t who I am. I want to know everything. That’s me.” “Babuu!” From its perch on Koushiro’s shoulders, Babumon blew bubbles of agreement. “Hey, what’s going on?” the Digimon customer asked Vadermon. “Can’t you tell? {They're} stealing.” Vadermon took out what looked like a toy gun with a parabolic antenna attached in the front. It aimed the muzzle at Koushiro. “Give it back.” “No,” Koushiro said flatly. “Then I’ll kill you and take it from your dead remains.”

{My Commentary}: >The power to express yourself {/your Interests} was already inside of you. > The words are already inside of you.
"BUT I DON'T THINK YOU HAVE TO PUSH YOURSELF TO SAY THE WORDS."

come home (hikari week, day one)
for hikari week, @sluggybasson107 and i decided to collaborate - for every entry i’ve written, she’s drawn an image. the picture inserted (below the cut) was created by sluggy, and with her permission, i’ve posted it along with a story.
characters: hikari and friends
summary: the voices call for hikari once again, only this time, she isn’t strong enough to resist. // also on AO3 .
Hikari had grown used to unidentifiable beings worming their way into her body, using her as a catalyst for something Greater, something Bigger than she would ever be.
She had grown used to the nightmares that followed, to the suspicion that her only purpose was to be used for the Greater Good.
At eight years old, stranded in the midst of a desert, Hikari knew the Digital World did not care for the Chosen. They were all means to an end; they were all pawns in a game.
Puppetmon exploited that fact beautifully, whipping them around as if they were mere playthings.
At eight years old, Hikari had watched Wizardmon sacrifice himself for her partner, had commanded Angewomon to send an arrow through her brother’s chest.
At eleven, they called for her again, the inky waters of a dark shore lapping at her sneakers. Voices whispered through her head, simultaneously everywhere and nowhere all at once.
Then, she’s fourteen, waking up in a  hospital when she should have been in class. The woman from the government, Maki, had signed her release papers, whispering little encouragements in her ears. “You have a gift, Hikari. The Digital World must love you.”
The woman’s smile had sent shivers down her spine, but Hikari had learned not to ask questions.
Maki had not been there to listen to Meiko scream into the starry sky, her partner’s data floating on the wind. Maki had been mistaken, the Digital World loved no one.
Hikari had not been surprised when the Digital World wrapped her in its schemes once again, Homeostasis itself beckoning to her from the corners of her own mind.
At twenty, Hikari had grown numb.
“Thanks for meeting on such short notice,” Koushiro began. By then, they knew his thanks were a mere formality; they never had much choice when it came to saving the world.
Through the endless responsibilities of a Chosen, Hikari had learned to find comfort in the things that never changed.
Koushiro’s office was still cluttered, an outdated pair of goggles keeping Daisuke’s hair at bay.
Another Kuwagumon ravaged Odaiba Bay, surveillance footage playing through Koushiro’s computer, civilians fleeing the scene like ants running from their mound.
“It appears to be manageable,” he muttered under his breath. Despite his many promotions, Koushiro’s office nearly burst at the seams with full attendance. Childhood friends proved difficult to outgrow.
Wedged between Miyako and the arm of the sofa, Hikari watched the screen listlessly as the Kuwagumon flew overhead, the grainy footage obscuring the sharpness of the pinchers.
Pressure built behind her eyes, a dull thrum reverberating in her skull. From somewhere to her left, her brother formulated a game plan, dividing tasks and responsibilities as he always did.
As Hikari rummaged in her purse for ibuprofen, she allowed her mind to wander.
Taichi’s speech had been memorized long ago, Hikari’s battle tasks unchanging since childhood: stay close, attack only when necessary.
“Do you really need all of us there?” Mimi spoke up, a strand of hair twirling anxiously around her finger. “I mean,” she amended, “It seems a little overkill for just one Kuwagumon.”
Several heads whipped in Mimi’s direction, her face warming with the sudden attention.
“It’s our duty as Chosen to defend our world,” Taichi chastised, Iori nodding along empathetically. “Don’t you remember what happened the last time we were divided?”
A shiver involuntarily ran down Hikari’s spine. Broken memories flooded into her mind’s eye unbidden, out of focus. Only Taichi could recall the past so unflinchingly.
Her brother’s voice droned in the background, recycling words of encouragement from previous battles.
By now, they had heard it all before; Taichi’s words had little effect on Mimi’s somber mood, only irritating her further.
“Instead of arguing, maybe we should, I don’t know, go fight the giant monster terrorizing the city? Just a suggestion.” Miyako’s temper had reared an ugly head, Mimi’s inflamed cheeks spurring her into action.
Tension, wound tight like a rubber band, stretched across the room. Hikari closed her eyes, a vein throbbing at her temple.
Ignoring Miyako’s outburst, Taichi started speaking again, but his voice had faded into a faint buzz behind his sister’s eyelids.
Slowly, the medicine took effect, the sharp edges of Hikari’s headache softening.
She hadn’t realized her brother was still talking until Koushiro cleared his throat. Opening her eyes, Hikari squinted against the fluorescent lights.
“We should probably get going,” the red head suggested, annoyance prickling at his brow. Though he had grown in the years she had known him, Hikari doubted that Koushiro would be able to truly stand up to Taichi.
The others murmured their agreements, gathering their things and securing their partners in their grasps.
Hikari stood, frail frame swaying by the couch.
“Are you okay?” Miyako asked, worry pursing at her lips.
The fluorescent lights seemed brighter than usual, the corners of Hikari’s vision still blurry. Her fists rubbed against her eyelids, blinking rapidly to refocus her eyes.
Blearily, Hikari looked up at Miyako’s form, her lavender hair a mere smudge. “What’s happening?” Hikari asked.
Footsteps clamored down the hallway, small bits of conversation floating through the doorway.
Carefully, Hikari reached for her bag, shouldering it before giving Miyako what she hoped was an encouraging smile.
“I’m fine,” she said. “I just got a bit distracted, is all. Let’s catch up with the others before they leave us behind.”
She blinked a few more times, praying for the blurriness to fade away. Icy tendrils of dread snaked around her stomach; her eyes wouldn’t focus.
Swallowing the lump in her throat, Hikari followed Miyako out of the room. With her heart pounding in her ears, it was difficult to hear the instructions her friend repeated, their battle plan suddenly forgotten.
Her shoes clicked against the linoleum tiles, click-clack, click-clack. They turned a corner, Hikari’s stomach rolling.
The girl next to her called out, urgency in her voice. Click-clack, click-clack. Sweat dripped down Hikari’s neck, her breath spilling from her lips in little pants.
“Hey, do we need to slow down? I’m sure the others wouldn’t mind if we were a little behind.” The lavender-haired girl said, her hand squeezing Hikari’s shoulders.
Chest heaving, Hikari yanked her arm out of the stranger’s grasp. “Who are you?” she asked.
The other girl’s eyebrows furrowed, eyes growing wide behind the lenses of her glasses. A sense of familiarity welled in the brunette’s chest, her body at ease despite her panic.
An apology bubbled at the tip of Hikari’s tongue, but she held it at bay; it wasn’t polite for strangers to grab you, no matter how friendly they look. The other girl’s breath was close enough to fan across her face,  the slight breeze cooling Hikari down.
Placing a hand on her own forehead, Hikari’s bottom lip caught itself between her teeth. She was warm.
“Are you playing a joke on me? Hikari, I appreciate the effort, but now isn’t the time.” The slight twinge of annoyance dripped from the strange girl’s words, her hand reaching for Hikari once more.
The brunette flinched, backing herself against the wall. "How do you know my name?” Hikari’s voice sounded shrill to her own ears, echoing in the nondescript hallway.
A pair of footsteps grew closer, the older girl snapping her head in its direction.
Unruly, auburn hair poked around the corner, another stir of familiarity rising in Hikari’s mind. Goggles glinted under the too-bright lights, blinding Hikari further. His face was soft with mirth, a playful tint shimmering in his eyes.
“What’s taking you guys so long? This Kuwagumon isn’t going to beat itself.”
His form was too far away for Hikari to make out, melding into an indistinct blob of brown and blue. “Ku-wa-gu-mon?” she whispered to herself, testing the word on her lips. A new wave of panic numbed the tips of her fingers as the girl from before gripped her forearm.
“Daisuke,” the girl began, “I think we have an issue.”
Eyes bleary, Hikari was hardly able to  discern the boy’s figure growing closer, the smell of his cologne permeating her senses. Waves of nausea rolled in her stomach.
“Hikari,” the boy - Daisuke, was it? -  began, voice low and gentle. “Are you alright?”
His face leaned into her space, his palm pressing against the sheen of sweat that adorned her forehead. “Shit, she’s burning up.”
“Who’s Hikari?” she asked, struggling against the strange girl’s grip. “Please, let me go. I want to go home.”
The girl’s grip only grew tighter, holding Hikari in place.
“Hikari, you’re scaring us. What’s going on? Is it the ocean, again?”
Nails dug into the flesh of her upper arm, the boy whispering something unintelligible.
“Who’s Hikari?” she tried again, body too warm and loud in the unfamiliar hallway. Something buzzed just behind her ears, a voice murmuring indistinctly. “Take me home,” Hikari murmured.
The fluorescents of the hallway dimmed, Hikari knees buckling under the pressure. With her eyes fluttered shut, the voice in her head grew louder, more commanding. “Come home,” it said. “Come home, Child of Light.”
Something warm wrapped around her, cradling Hikari against the cool, tile floor.
“Come home.”

Koushirou and his overall character arc
Tumblr media
Koushirou is probably one of Adventure’s most iconic characters, and, despite being somewhat smack in the middle of the character lineup, is somewhat of a mascot for it in some way -- being so related to “the tech world” in a series that’s about digital technology, everything ranging from his iconic computer to his leitmotif (Digital Scratch!) to even his dub catchphrase is considered symbolic of the series itself. He’s also one of the series’s most visible characters in both Adventure and 02, to the point it’s been commented he might actually have been the closest overall to the 02 group.
On top of all that, Koushirou may also be one of the most complex characters within the entire Adventure cast, and so, as always: let’s talk about this!
Koushirou in Adventure
Tumblr media
One of the easiest things to notice about Koushirou (which is, unfortunately, lost in most translations) is that he always speaks in polite-form Japanese, to everyone. Unlike Iori, who’s simply being formal out of strict upbringing but would easily be willing to drop some pretty passive-aggressive remarks in said formal language, Koushirou actually is as polite and deferential as his language suggests. In fact, there’s hardly a single time in Adventure or 02 you could ever say he gets truly “angry” (the only time being a comedy drama CD). To be a bit blunt about it, Koushirou’s a bit of a doormat -- and on top of that, it’s made clear in Adventure episodes 38 and 54 that this is a reflexive thing for Koushirou, to the point he cannot speak casually at all without seriously forcing himself.
Koushirou being like this isn’t just because he’s necessarily trying to be the kindest person in the world, but rather, has a lot to do with social anxiety. Or, in other words, people scare him. Him being “polite” to people is basically his way of keeping “distance” (keep in mind that, in Japanese propriety, dropping polite form is basically a sign of becoming “close”). If Koushirou is deferential to everyone, he can keep a safe emotional distance away from everyone, and he can also stay away from confrontation. Hence, why he never really picks a fight with or truly yells angrily at anyone; he just really doesn’t want to deal with it.
From the Adventure novels:
Never before had he talked so much to a stranger, even if that stranger wasn’t a human being. In the days before he had left for camp, he normally avoided taking the initiative to talk to others in school. He didn’t like getting involved with them. Especially not when he didn’t even know who in the world he was. As a matter of course, his classmates rarely had a chance to talk with him. Many thought that he was hard to get along with, and Koushiro personally didn’t find that inconvenient so he did nothing to persuade them otherwise.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We learn, in Adventure episode 31, that one of the biggest things eating away at him was the knowledge that he was an adopted child. Retroactively, we learn that this was what caused him to have a sudden mental lockdown in episode 5, because Tentomon asked him about “being interested in who he [himself] is.” Because Koushirou has no sense of self-understanding -- or, more accurately, he doesn’t want to understand himself at this point because it requires confronting an uncomfortable truth with uncomfortable implications he doesn’t want to think too hard about -- he can hardly bring himself to interact with other people.
Tumblr media
It’s also important to realize that just because Koushirou kept his distance from people didn’t mean he was some kind of misanthrope. Adventure episode 28 implies -- and Our War Game!, 02 episode 7, and Diablomon Strikes Back fully confirm -- that Koushirou maintains an extensive network of people he chats with on the Internet, effectively being an early Usenet adopter. (Modern viewers would probably be aghast at the free range a ten-year-old was effectively exercising on the Internet, given what we know about Internet safety now.) As many of us can attest, social anxiety problems are often significantly less pronounced on the Internet due to the extra “barrier” allowing for less pressure. So it’s not that Koushirou wasn’t sociable or couldn’t make acquaintances he’d feel comfortable casually hitting up; it’s just that real-time social communication was overwhelming, and emotionally opening up to people even harder. It’s one thing to have acquaintances you can ask favors from or consult on various topics, and another for that person to actually be emotionally an intimate friend with you.
In light of all of this, in terms of wanting to avoid people by proxy of wanting to avoid even thinking about himself, Koushirou thus turned to his computer. However, it’s not quite the “machines are easier to deal with than people!” trope that you would usually see in “tech geek” or “engineer” characters. Actually, Koushirou’s fascination with computers has very little to do with tech.
Tumblr media
The core behind Koushirou’s character is “I want to know.” Or, in other words, Koushirou is perpetually curious about everything. He absorbs information like a sponge, and the presumable reason he buried himself into computers was that -- it being the easiest way to connect him to the wealth of information that is the Internet, as well as easy storage for a bunch of reference materials and analysis tools -- it was his easiest way to learn things, and especially in a way that doesn’t require face-to-face interaction with people. His own Crest, “Knowledge”, has a bit of an oversimplified name -- Adventure episode 24 basically removes all subtlety from the equation by hammering it very clearly that Koushirou’s actual defining trait has very little to do with the technical knowledge he’s actually gained, and far more the curiosity that drives him to constantly learn more and not stay ignorant.
The reason this ties into his initial problem of not wanting to face other people, and not wanting to face himself, is brought up in Adventure episode 5 (although the full context is not quite clarified until 31): Koushirou is enthusiastic to learn about everything else but himself. Basically, it all comes from it having been his coping method of avoiding thinking about his own position in the world -- why not spend all that mental energy thinking about everything else?
This brings us chronologically to the beginning of Adventure -- or, more accurately, a little before it. Just prior to the events of the series, Koushirou joined Taichi and Sora’s soccer club. This is a fact about him that tends to drop under the radar, because in the actual series, it’s only mentioned very quickly in Adventure episode 16, but otherwise it’s something that’s easy to forget because Koushirou isn’t exactly the inspiring image of someone very athletic. The reason why he joined the club is given in the novels:
Because their school curriculum had a physical education requirement, Koushiro was forced to choose a club. It was a mere coincidence that he chose the soccer club. He wouldn’t have to face people one-on-one if he was in a club emphasizing teamwork rather than individual achievement, and the positions in soccer appeared more vague than they were in baseball. He felt that in the soccer club, he wouldn’t have to go out of his way to engage with other people. Taichi was an upperclassman in that soccer club. It wasn’t that he was extremely talkative, but Taichi treated everyone without discrimination, as equals. That attitude of his didn’t change, even towards Koushiro. If Taichi hadn’t invited him, Koushiro was sure that he would have never gone to summer camp.
Again, tying back to what was said earlier about Koushirou wanting to avoid people (because they’re scary) and not wanting to think too hard about himself: Koushirou joined the soccer club because he wanted to be invisible. He didn’t care so much about the activity itself as much as he wanted to have minimal presence and not have to stick out as a person, so he could fulfill his requirement and go home.
This also becomes a key factor into why Koushirou ultimately develops the relationship with Taichi that he does -- because even as his upperclassman and the ace of the team, Taichi straddled the exact balance of reaching out to him while also giving him his space, meaning that he not only managed to convince Koushirou to make one of the most important decisions of his life, Koushirou also developed a respect for him that enabled him to comfortably approach Taichi even during the early episodes of the series, when he would otherwise keep his distance from others. It is likely no exaggeration to say that, from the beginning of Adventure to the end, Taichi probably becomes the emotionally closest person to Koushirou out of the entire group.
Tumblr media
For the early stages of the series, Koushirou is, effectively, being bombarded with a ton of new information, and he constantly gets sidetracked. Koushirou ends up falling into a certain psychological pattern that’s actually detailed more realistically than you might expect -- he gets so “in the zone” while being absorbed in gathering information that it becomes difficult to tear him away from it, and he has a hard time stopping because any kind of interruption would cause him to lose it (which happens in episode 5). This is a problem when they’re in the middle of another world and there’s more practical things to be done -- every time he sees something that bothers him, he keeps getting sidetracked by it, because it nags at him and he needs to get to the bottom of it, now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
On top of that, during these early episodes, Koushirou is awful at interacting with people. It’s not that he’s being callous about it (these screenshots don’t show it well, but Koushirou’s tone here in episode 10 makes it clear he does realize things are going south but simply isn’t sure how to fix it), but he’s so inexperienced at dealing with people that he keeps trying to talk about how this will practically help them and not things that actually appeal to Mimi’s emotional needs. He ultimately does try to make it up to Mimi in his own way by helping her and Tentomon out of the labyrinth, and Mimi is a kind person who forgives him easily, but nevertheless, kid’s got a long way to go.
Tumblr media
But on the flip side, Koushirou’s tendency to never let a thing go whenever it nags at his head (something that unfortunately tended to get him fixating on less than practical things) ends up becoming a very important asset as he settles into his role as the team’s analyst. Note that I say analyst and not “tech person” -- there’s a very good reason for that, because Koushirou’s accomplishments in this series (while being somewhat impressive for a ten-year-old kid in the late 90s) are actually not that impressive from a technical standpoint. All of Koushirou’s accomplishments in Adventure and 02 have strictly to do with his ability to gather information and put it to good use.
He figures out that (shock) the Digital World is made of data in Adventure episode 19, which is possibly one of the most mundane things you could possibly figure out about the Digital World. The reason this is impressive for Koushirou is that he had to figure this out all from scratch, by putting all of his observation data in his computer and observing things such as markings written on the wall affecting reality. (Even then, a lot of what he says in this episode is hypothesis, as his theory about “real bodies” turns out not to be true come episodes 21 and 28.)
He analyzes the information about Nanomon’s pyramid in episode 20. Again, it’s all based off of information he’d received beforehand, just making deeper use of it.
He solves the card puzzle in episode 28, which only really requires as much technical skill as looking things up in an encyclopedia; the accomplishment came from reading the data out of it and spotting patterns using sheer intellect.
He makes use of some programs Gennai had provided him in episode 31 -- again, things Gennai had provided him, not anything he’d made himself.
He figures out the meaning of the “prophecy” in episode 38, mainly just using sheer logical deduction using clues from the kids’ parents (the computer was really just for reading Gennai’s email).
He figures out a tactical strategy for defeating MetalSeadramon with the Dramon Destroyers in episode 42, which, again, requires about as much technical skill as reading an encyclopedia; the important part is that he pieced together a strategy.
He uses the Internet cables around Mugendramon’s town to connect to the Internet to do research, which backfires spectacularly when they exploit it to figure out their location, and ultimately gets him to spoof their location back (which is probably the single biggest tech accomplishment he pulls off in this entire series). Even that doesn’t work in the end, which makes them all just...physically wing it (and get Takeru and Sora’s help).
...Yeah, that’s it! The kid is, ultimately, a ten-year-old with a laptop; it’s not about his tech skills but the fact he is a remarkably deductive and perceptive ten-year-old with a laptop.
Tumblr media
Another interesting thing about Koushirou in episode 19 is that we get our first depiction of Koushirou actually having an extended session of teaching others about what he’s learned. Quite a few people have pointed out that while Koushirou tends to mentally shut other people out when absorbing information, this does not apply when disclosing information -- he breaks things down very easily for others to understand and constantly makes sure that everyone’s following. The difference boils down to the same fundamental reason: Koushirou is passionate about the information he’s gathered. When he’s gathering information, he has a tendency to fixate because he wants to take in as much as he can as once, but when he’s telling other people about what he’s just discovered, there’s no point in telling people about the Exciting New Things he’s just learned if nobody can understand it, so he conversely becomes quite an attentive and easy-to-follow teacher.
Tumblr media
In episode 24, Koushirou basically ditches anything to do with the computer and decides to find a way to meet Gennai. This despite the fact he’d previously tried to avoid face-to-face conversation -- because, in the end, what Koushirou really wants doesn’t have much to do with computers, but the fact he wants to Know Things. And here’s the Digital World, full of so many mysteries and things to uncover, that his desire to learn things takes priority. Koushirou’s humble enough to know when there’s things he can’t do by himself -- so in this case, interrogating someone more knowledgeable about it (like his Internet friends, or, in this case, Gennai) works fine too. And he most certainly does interrogate Gennai in episode 28, basically picking his brain about everything he knows, and Gennai ultimately acknowledges his desire to know more by upgrading his Digimon Analyzer and giving him a bunch of software resources that Koushirou later utilizes to make a lot of his more important later-series deductions.
This is how Koushirou becomes such an important centerpiece of the series -- not just merely through having a computer in a story about a digital world, but also being the one who most aggressively pokes into the mysteries behind the worldbuilding and, ultimately, the story itself. There’s a reason Digital Scratch! tends to be one of the most well-remembered of the Adventure letimotifs -- because it plays really often, in terms of anything to do with “uncovering the truth”.
Tumblr media
Episode 28 becomes very important for Koushirou’s character growth, too, because what starts off as what should have been Koushirou’s worst nightmare -- being put on the spot by everyone -- ultimately proves to be something very important to what he’d needed this entire time: validation. Taichi, entrusted with everything in terms of making the decision about the card puzzle, chooses to use his leader’s authority to appoint Koushirou to the job. Koushirou pulls it off marvelously, and even apologizes for his limitations in figuring out the last card. Instead, everyone applauds him.
After all of the running in circles Koushirou had gone in for the first half of the series, fixating on details way more than would arguably be practical and getting sidetracked by them, it turns out, all of it paid off, because Koushirou gathering and using this information ended up being one of the most necessary skills needed for this moment. Sure, there may have been snags on the road, but all of the “this might be important later!” turned out to be very much true. And for that, Koushirou is not ostracized or treated like an oddity, but appreciated and valued for being one of the smartest damn people on this team.
Tumblr media
Eventually, Koushirou and his parents finally put to rest the core of the issue that had been plaguing him the whole time when they have a proper heart-to-heart talk about the adoption issue, and Koushirou confirms that his parents love him all the same. During this conversation, Koushirou attempts to force himself to speak casually, the way he feels he should be speaking to them, instead of this distance he’s been keeping between himself and his parents this whole time -- but his father assures him that he doesn’t have to force himself or change himself for them. Even with all of these coping mechanisms he’s developed in speaking politely to everyone or immersing himself in computers, that doesn’t make it any less of a valid aspect of himself -- after all, his father points out that this kind of intellectual ability seems to run in his biological family, but, more importantly: “There’s nothing wrong with being into computers.”
At the end of this scene, Tentomon encourages Koushirou to cry as much as he wants -- because this whole time, allowing himself to fully express his emotions and vulnerability to others was something Koushirou had always had serious difficulty with.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The final episodes of the series -- mainly episodes 48, 49, and 51 -- show Koushirou also remarkably allowing his emotional closeness to Taichi (again, the person he was probably closest to this entire time) to increase. On top of being Taichi’s emotional sounding board as he completely loses his head over Hikari in episodes 48-49 (and Koushirou puts up with a lot from Taichi, who almost threatens to start physically fighting him in a state of emotional compromise), he, effectively, actually talks back to Taichi for the first time in episode 51 -- again, Koushirou never gets truly angry over the course of Adventure or 02, but this is the most expressively he’s allowed himself to express his frustration. And it’s for a very emotionally vulnerable and selfless reason, too -- he really, really cares for and respects Taichi, and is upset that he can’t help him.
Tumblr media
Koushirou ends the series with Tentomon and an acknowledgment that he still has a long road ahead of him. He still can’t force himself to speak casually, not yet. But in the years ahead, and maybe someday, he’ll become someone able to actually interact with people instead of constantly trying to keep away from them, especially on an emotional level.
Our War Game!, 02, and the aftermath
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Koushirou’s character arc continues into 02, and Our War Game!, being between Adventure and 02, gives us a bit of a glimpse of where his character arc is going -- namely, that, throughout the movie, Koushirou mentions having Internet friends who feed him information about the situation on the Internet. This largely has to do with the themes of the movie itself, of course -- the climax of the movie involves “everyone around the world coming together through the Internet” -- but it’s also brought up that Koushirou has some really talented connections, such as a friend with a guaranteed university opening and a Taiwanese middle school student who hacked into the Pentagon. (Let’s think about the fact that Koushirou can drop these sentences like it’s nothing.)
Koushirou, comparatively, is, for all intents and purposes, a completely ordinary elementary school student whose greatest demonstrated skill in tech work seems to be...uh...location spoofing? (He spends the entire movie pretty much reliant on the info said Internet friends are feeding him, getting assistance from Gennai, and hooking up a lot of ordinary hardware peripherals to their computers on hand.) And yet, somehow, he’s started to become really well-connected -- meaning he’s now started to form an active social life, even online, to the point where he can actually utilize his connections to have a ton of influence even if he can’t necessarily do amazing technological feats by himself.
Tumblr media
He also momentarily does criticize Taichi for his reckless behavior midway through the movie, and although he cools down quickly, it’s indicative of how far he’s come given that he wouldn’t have dared done so during most of Adventure. He’s more willing to express his own opinions and confront others, and he’s comfortable enough with Taichi enough to do this.
One year later -- according to the Two-and-a-Half Year Break drama CD -- Koushirou becomes the captain of the Odaiba Elementary computer club.
Back before Adventure, Koushirou joined the soccer club because he wanted to be invisible. But by the time of the space between Adventure and 02, Koushirou not only joins the computer club (something more relevant to what he personally wants and enjoys as a hobby), but also becomes appointed as captain, possibly the single most visible position in the club. On top of that, he also seems to be starting what we later learn in 02 episode 39 to be a global network of Chosen Children. In other words, he’s reaching out to people as a leader -- quite remarkable, for someone who used to go out of his way to avoid other people and wanted to have as little presence as possible!
In other words, Koushirou’s post-Adventure character arc involves him not only honing his own native analysis skills, but developing a skill of organizing and coordinating other people.
Tumblr media
We learn in 02 episode 1 that Miyako looks up to Koushirou as her former computer club senior -- she practically adores him. It is also very unlikely that she looks up to him for anything related to tech, given that we find out in Diablomon Strikes Back that she can hack into the Shibuya scramble crossing screens. In fact, Miyako is practically a tech prodigy compared to anything we’ve seen from Koushirou; she can assemble and fix computer hardware (02 episode 1), mod D-Terminals (02 episode 13), and even do sound engineering (02 episode 29) -- but the thing is, for all of Miyako’s grab bag computer skillset, she’s never portrayed as having any of the analysis skills Koushirou has (which is why she doesn’t have the same Crest he does), and she’s basically a “dabbler” who seems to do things because they peripherally interest her or can be useful for helping other people (like Iori’s mom or Yamato’s band). So in other words, it’s much more likely that the reason she looks upwards at Koushirou so much is that he has actual leadership, coordination, and analysis skills that she doesn’t, and, even with a much more limited skillset, is much better at actually applying them to do more wide-reaching and amazing things.
Tumblr media
Indeed, in 02 episode 7, we learn that Koushirou had sent data on the D-3s to a “friend in America”. Or, in other words, Koushirou has gotten really good at outsourcing. Of course, he’s very talented with computers and can do many things by himself, but now he’s starting to gather an entire network of people all over the world who can do even more incredible things under his leadership (including Miyako herself). And, more importantly, they’re all willing to do this for him, while he organizes all of this together to push everyone forward.
He’s also significantly more expressive than he ever was in Adventure -- again, he never gets truly heated or angry, and he’s still using formal language even with his juniors, but he does spend the end of this episode chastising everyone for going in recklessly and worrying about their safety. (Koushirou really is a very kind person when it comes down to it, so it’s notable that a lot of his frustration most often comes out when he’s worried about others, and he’s still very quick to calm down.) With that, you get a glimpse of the assertive and protective computer club captain Miyako sees in him, rather than the shy and deferential kid from Adventure.
Tumblr media
Despite no longer attending Odaiba Elementary (to be fair, Odaiba Middle is next door), Koushirou ends up becoming one of the most visible seniors in 02, because he keeps popping back into the computer lab to check on them or disseminate information. This wasn’t something the series had to portray, given he easily could have just sent everything over email, but it’s important to his role as someone who’s cultivating a skill in “gathering people together and organizing them”; he’s basically the go-between for the Adventure and 02 groups.
Tumblr media
This is especially because an entire scene is dedicated to him having a heart-to-heart with Ken in episode 33, where they talk about...well, everything. (He’s also the only of the Adventure seniors to actually sit down and have a heart-to-heart with him within the course of the actual series.) We see a lot of Koushirou’s natural inquisitiveness in play -- he wants to know more about Ken himself as the new member of the 02 team, he’s keeping an eye on the phenomenon of Chosen Children popping up all over the world and keeping tabs on what might be behind their proliferation, and he’s making extensive hypotheses on Digital World mechanics such as the clothes changing. So again, really, Koushirou’s interest isn’t really in computers as much as it’s everything -- including the Digital World and the Chosen Child phenomenon, which has so much to unpack -- and getting to know and having a heart-to-heart with the new kid who has a lot of new information and facts to offer is another perfectly feasible way to get research data. He even laments not having been able to reach Ken earlier -- “we were supposed to find you before [Oikawa] did.”
So, with Koushirou’s skills of “analysis” and “understanding more” mixed with his newfound skills of “organizing people and helping them work together”, where does that lead us?
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well, for one, Koushirou’s streak of constantly being visible in Adventure-based media even when you wouldn’t think he would be continues in Kizuna -- which is advertised up and down as a Taichi and Yamato movie, yet Koushirou gets significantly more screentime and attention than most of the other Adventure group due to how important his role is to all of them. Koushirou is basically functioning as “mission control” for everyone in the group -- he’s the person keeping tabs on the situation and monitoring it, and also the one managing the network of international Chosen Children to the point Menoa targets his database.
Oh, and he’s a CEO now.
IZUMI Corporation is not a big corporation, mind you. We see Koushirou’s office, and he’s pretty obviously running a very tiny startup. But running this corporation means he can do an extended version of what he was doing in 02: he can order production of all the technology used in the movie to help tackle Digimon incidents (as well as, presumably, things such as the smartphone terminals for the Digivices). Koushirou’s not a gadgets genius who can make things in a cave with scraps, but he can organize production companies and other entities and negotiate to have these things produced, especially since he’s pumping any money he makes from the corporation directly into supporting the Chosen Child community. So, again: coordinating people and organizing them to use their skillsets to create larger things.
Not only that, certain things haven’t changed about him -- he still seems to be Taichi’s poor beleagured minder, to the point you feel Taichi’s really lucky that Koushirou puts up with him so much. You can practically hear Koushirou’s increasingly desperate tone begging Taichi to please, please behave with the goggles and not break something this time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
As with in the original series, Koushirou’s major independent skill turns out to be not any particular technical skill as it is his analytical ability -- even without any Digimon Analyzer entry on Eosmon (with it being an artificial Digimon), he manages to do some quick thinking and on-the-spot tactical analysis on the field, and ultimately, he’s the one to figure out that Menoa is the culprit purely by analyzing fragments and following Menoa’s academic paper trail. He then does possibly one of the most clever secret actions in the entire movie, which is texting coordinates to Taichi behind his back the moment he realizes that things are about to go really south with Menoa.
Tumblr media
Koushirou still has his trademark tendency to fixate, and he still speaks politely to everyone in this movie, but on top of everything else about him that’s the same as ever, he’s also still got his stubborn determination to get to the bottom of things -- while Taichi and Yamato momentarily start considering Menoa’s suggestion that separation from their partners is inevitable, Koushirou is the first person to put his foot down and declare he’ll find a solution. This includes an extra scene from the novel where he actually has a long, heart-to-heart talk with Tentomon about what the potential for Tentomon’s disappearance means for both of them, and both of them resolve to find a way out -- as much as Menoa accuses him of being naive, it’s a remarkably forward-thinking way to approach it compared to Taichi, Yamato, and Menoa’s lesser certainty throughout the movie.
Tumblr media
As always, we end up at the 02 epilogue, and we find that Koushirou ended up as a “Digital World researcher” -- considering he’s working with what seem to be Professor Takenouchi and Kido Shuu, he’s most likely working in academic research. It’s not said whether he still has the company or not -- it’s very possible he still does, given that he’s going to need some way to actually fund the research, and anyone who’s worked in academia can tell you what kind of hell getting those funds can be (in fact, you could arguably say his work for IZUMI Corporation was inherently research in itself). So, again, the important part about his career doesn’t have to do with any kind of technical skill as much as it’s about fulfilling his dream of unpacking all of the mysteries of the Digital World that have yet to be discovered, and sharing that information with the world.
Tumblr media
He also has a daughter. It seems like the two of them seem to share some kind of interest in learning, considering that she’s apparently gathering “samples” of something on his behalf (presumably, for help with research) -- but, also, as far as language goes, he has demonstrated at least the capability to speak casually and without distance to his own daughter. It’s unknown whether this applies to everyone else, but he did, to at least some degree, get to the point where “the words just flow naturally.”

Flowery facts | Koukari Enlighten Month 2021
Koukari Kingdom AU series [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6] [7]
A/N: Part 4 already! Dedicating this one to @earlgreymon because it's your birthday! This little drabble is more of a short one-shot. Heavily implied Taiora, especially for my girl! I even hinted Mimato for you ;) And another little Easter egg: Ts(ubaki). That's all you get, you can figure out the rest yourself hehe...
Happy birthday my dear girl Sky! Wanted to make sure you wake up to this on your special day. And hang in there, I hope this will bring some light to your tougher days <333
Day 13-16: Flower/Animal | Characters: Hikari (pov), Koushiro, Sora (Taichi + very background jyoumimatokeru with Mimato romance) | Genre: Fluff | Wordcount: 887
xxx
Flowery facts
“Aren’t they pretty?” Sora said as she looked over the field with flowers, eyes beaming with joy.
Sora grew up in another kingdom where her mother was the gardener of the royal palace. One day Hikari and her brother had accompanied their parents to the other kingdom for a quite formal state visit. Hikari was still very young and couldn’t remember much, though the thing she could remember best was Sora and the way she had taken care of Hikari during their visit. Ever since that time Sora had been like a sister to her and it truly warmed Hikari’s heart.
It had warmed Taichi’s heart as well.
Every time their parents told them they were visiting the adjacent kingdom, Taichi was the first one screaming to tag along. Mom and dad thought he had a crush on princess Mimi, but it was Sora Taichi was interested in. Prioritizing his duty over his feelings, feeling obligated to marry a princess, Taichi kept those feelings hidden for everyone including Sora. Instead their bond blossomed into a strong friendship, the secret romantic feelings for his beloved Sora always with him as both a burden and a blessing.
It wasn’t until Mimi was married of to Taichi that he started protesting against the obligations. Luckily for him, Mimi had fallen in love with the royal musician so she protested too, but with no luck. Mimi who was friends with Sora as well, asked Sora to protest against the wedding by telling she had fallen in love with Taichi, and would be here to win him over. To everyone’s surprise and without any hesitations, Sora had said yes.
Suspicions rose and Mimi informed Taichi with the convenience of which he packed his backs and courage to travel to the other kingdom only to confess to Sora in the middle of a beautiful flower field. He had repeated random facts about different flowers he knew she loved, leading up to the moment of him confessing. All Hikari knew was that Sora had been speechless at first, but after overcoming the first shock (“but I thought I had to be the one to confess…”), she had answered him with a sweet kiss on the lips, making them fall right into the flowers. The rest was history and Hikari always swooned by the romantic image of her brother and her sister-in-law. If only she—
“Did you know the different colors of the Tsubaki* all have a different meaning?”
“Ah, adviser Izumi-san!” Sora said.
“Sorry for the interruption,” his voice sounded like a whispering song to Hikari. “And please, call me Koushiro, your Highness,” he bowed ninety degrees.
“And you know you can call me Sora, Koushiro-san,” she winked. “Oh and stop the bowing!” She waved with her hand to make him stop. Hikari chuckled, Sora hated all the formalities, just like Taichi. Hence why both of them took every opportunity to just be normal people safely between the walls of their castle.
“My bad, Sora-san.” He corrected himself before turning to Hikari, sweetly nodding in her direction. Hikari’s throat turned dry a little.
“Better. Anyway, I didn’t know you held an interest in flowers?” Sora smiled, one eyebrow raised showing her genuine interest.
Hikari had been quiet all this time, unable to say anything, watching their conversation flow. Her mind, however, was with Koushiro, wondering if he too had memorized facts about flowers. Hikari’s heart skipped a beat, her cheeks showing a pinky blush.
“I have an interest in knowing and learning as much things as I can. Flowers, however, are dearly to me. They remind me of my parents, you see…”
As Koushiro rambled on about the meaning of specific flowers, Sora nodded along with his sayings, every now and then chiming in. Hikari could only watch and listen, seeing and hearing the two persons she (secretly) admired so much. Sora looked at her between Koushiro’s ramblings, then the castle’s bells ringed.
“You know what?” Sora said, standing up abruptly grabbing Hikari’s wrist and pulling her to her. “You can tell princess Hikari-chan here everything about flowers! If you’ll excuse me, I have to check on my husband.” And without further ado she left Hikari and Koushiro behind.
Hikari gasped, her face heating up with a speed she couldn’t fight against. She hoped Koushiro would break the ice, but he looked a little panicked, so she shook her head and swallowed hard, trying to be bold like a true Yagami.
“W-What do you think of red roses, Koushiro…-san! Koushiro-san?”
It was the first flower that came into mind and of course it had to be the most romantic one. Her eyes grew wide, staring at Koushiro waiting for him to tell her it was an off question. But he didn’t, instead he smiled that smile she adored so much and Hikari swooned away upon seeing it, her heart making a somersault.
“I think they’re quite romantic.” A blush arose on his cheeks matching her own rosy ones. She herself mimicked his smile with one of her own. “Care to show me the red roses, Hikari-san?”
Like a real gentleman he offered her his arm and Hikari linked her arm with his, wanting nothing more than to show him the red roses and listen to all the flowery facts he could share with her.

Reboot Koushiro vs Original Koushiro
Little thought about Kou-chan below the cut, Reboot ep 5 spoiler.
So...  2020 Koushiro can already say emotional things like, “Maybe I was sent here to meet you,” to Kabuterimon.  He can’t repeat it when (teasingly?) asked, but he can say it, freely, of his own will.
Adventure Koushiro bowed and formally thanked Tentomon for taking care of him after a 50+ ep adventure- that was as emotional as he was comfortable being, and Tentomon accepted that.
I can’t help but be curious about how Reboot Koushiro will grow!  He already seems... potentially “ahead” of original Koushiro from the final episode of Digimon Adventure, at least in terms of one of his major character/development areas.
I’m so curious about what they’re going to do with character arcs...!

I’m gonna be honest, I think this is the first episode that I didn’t enjoy at all. While there have been other episodes that have been just ok, there was always something that I liked, but with this one? nada. That and the fact that at times it felt like episode 3: recharged. It even have the same formula but this time with the rest of the kids as spectators.
Warning: I complain, and a lot.
I think my issue is the execution, because the ideas aren’t bad. Sure, let’s have Omegamon again because apparently having 6 perfect Digimon isn’t enough for one (1) mega. The way Taichi and Yamato walked to battle was so effing ridiculous! Sorry, I have to laugh at only them making an effort while the others were all the episode doing the surprised pikachu face and saying “eh” “oh” and all its derivations. That without taking into account that they were all saying how together are stronger just one episode ago. But I have to believe only Taichi and Yamato mattered in this battle.
Yamato called Taichi by his name and it was so anticlimatic, it makes me think was what the reason for him to call him by his last name if he was just going to drop the formalities as if nothing. I hate it because they made me believe in a payoff that didn’t happen.
There wasn’t much dialogue in this ep, just Koushiro that at this point I believe should have be called “Exposition” because that’s all he’s about. He’s just there, telling us what are we not noticing because they don’t bother to put it into the narrative, Koushiro is gonna tell us anyway! I’m also starting to believe that the so especial treatment to Takeru and Hikari is just them serving as instrument for their brothers to shine.
The next ep we have Leomon and more Taichi and Yamato, the rest of the kids were taken by Devimon, I presume, and are gonna be rescued, I guess? I do hope that they at least try to escape by themselves and aren’t there just waiting for the other two to save them. I don’t like that they were separated again but alas, we need to give the two main characters more exposure.
Honestly at this point I don’t know why I’m even surprised, lol. We’re talking about the same studio that took the Dragon Ball cast and made it into the Goku and Vegeta show! This has been happening since Tri, but because this was a new anime I was a little hopeful? But hey, maybe it’s just these eps and we’re gonna have more of the rest shinning later and I’m just bitching uselessly .

Right after watching episode 2, I thought that Koushiro showing discomfort after Yamato referred to him as Izumi was due to him feeling awkward with people being formal towards him.
Only now I’ve realized the most probable explanation.
Koushiro doesn’t want to be called Izumi because he doesn’t see himself as a real Izumi!

What do you think would've been a better way to write 1999 Adventure's first episode? Do you think it would've been better off scattering the kids around the island and introducing them how Adventure 2020 is doing: a pair (Taichi and Koushiro) with small cameos of the others?
Much as I disliked the way they tried to cram 14 characters down our throats in the first episode of Adventure, one of the killer things about that format was the sudden shock of everyone getting pulled in as one large group and just kind of stuck with each other. Splitting them up later offered its share of advantages, but having the big unruly mob early set quite the tone.
What I would have done is after a quick intro of the seven kids the same way the show did, I’d keep things laser focused on Taichi and one or two others in the first episode, probably Koushiro and Sora. You can show the other four having their freakouts over their Digimon in the background, but only formally introduce Agumon, Tentomon, and Piyomon. And yes, I mean the Child levels: don’t bother teaching us the names of the Babies since they won’t be there long.
This might warrant some rejiggering of the scheduling evolving everyone to adult, since episode two would necessitate more focus on Joe and Mimi (Yamato and Takeru are pretty well covered in episode three, so you might as well stick with that), but episode two was already practically Joe’s despite Agumon getting the evolution. Basically, start with one and zoom out from there before treating it like an ensemble.
Oh, and do some darn foreshadowing to the midgame with Hikari or something just so we know they’re building up to something because that aimless wandering early on makes it hard to trust that the show is really going somewhere.

The best moments are the unplanned ones
Digimon. Pairing: Taichi x Koushiro. 3258 words. Warnings: Fluff and stuff. Implied/established relationship
Summary: Koushiro wanted to take Taichi out on a nice date to show how much he cared. He planned one out at least.
Written for the Digimon Secret Santa Event hosted by @secretsantamon
Hi there @reverend-spines! I was your secret santa this year!
Ahhh, I’m sorry I’m a little late with your gift. I tried my absolute best with this fic. I really did. I wanted it to be as sweet and fluffy as possible. But also making it entirely unique to them. (If that makes sense....I fiddled with a lot of possibilities before settling on this one, lol)
I hope you’ve had a wonderful year and that you do enjoy this little oneshot! Happy holidays! :D
Outside the weather was feathering into the night through a gentle snowfall. The small snowflakes frosted the edges of the windowpanes, allowing some of the light from streetlamps and large displays of Christmas lights managed to shine through. The small amount of Christmas glow entering through the modest apartment.
There was some level of romance to snowy nights. The landscape being adorned by pure white snow, or colorful vivid lights to set the awestruck mood. The kind of details that could encourage someone to be intimate or cozy. A perfect setting to walk through the streets outside while sharing cold Eskimo kisses and the warmth of hand holding.
Details, that were completely and utterly meaningless to individuals who had better things to do, deadlines to meet, and expectations to exceed.
All of this and more applied to Koushiro.
With fingers typing steadfast on his keyboard, Koushiro’s eyes focused on the surroundings as wide as his laptop screen. Data was processing at a constant rate, his laptop was juiced to the best of his customizing capabilities, but at moments like this, the laptop specs were pushed to its max.
With a low groan Koushiro knit his brows together yet again as his laptop took a second too long to jump to its next line of code. Honestly. He’d rather be doing this kind of work in his office where he had multiple screens and servers to avoid these minor lagging issues. He technically could have just ran to his office, sat down at a proper desk and put his entire focus and being into this project…if he had foresaw a work emergency in the first place. Or, at the very least, if this had happened earlier in the day.
Koushiro bit back another groan as he internally told himself to keep calm and continue working. He didn’t have the time to consider what-ifs scenarios no matter how tempting it might be. He had pressure weighing down on his shoulders, the grit of irritation of having his plans completely interrupted and sidetracked. He just wanted to get this done.
With a harsh click of his enter key, Koushiro paused his robotic typing to evaluate the input he just inserted in the code. A series of numbers and algorithms flew on one side of his screen, while the desired output was on the other half. With a stationary gaze that drilled focus to a point as dark as his eyes, Koushiro waited to see if the outcome of his project was fixed or not.
“…uh, Koushiro?” A voice called out to question. It wasn’t strong enough to actually take in Koushiro’s complete and undivided attention, but enough to be coherent, “you done?”
Koushiro tapped along the edge of his keyboard, his fingernail clicking like an unforgiving metronome to a novice musician. His eyes narrowed, but didn’t close, not until the code stopped to an unforgiving halt at the sound of a beep and the red flashing FAILURE flashed over the output side of his screen.
Temperance was Koushiro’s known qualities. But even Buddha had his limits.
“No.” Koushiro held down the backspace key before resuming his rhythmic typing.
Koushiro could recognize a small chuckle, one that tapered off into a good willed, “No worries.” Before another silence. Koushiro hummed in response, limiting his focus back on his computer once again.
He shifted in his seat, moving to be more upright as he tried another method. He sourly missed the lower back support of his office chair. And started feeling another bitter rise of anger at the low height of the coffee table in front of him. Hell, eve the couch cushions that were way too soft to stay firm under his weight. He adjusted himself one more as he took a brief moment to pause to swing out one of his wrists.
“Neh, Koushiro,”
“Ham,” Koushiro hummed out automatically when he recognized his name. Out of habit of being in a similar situation one too many times, he internally knew what to do to stay productive on his task without seeming too heartless to the people around him. He wasn’t completely clueless, he’d learn from when he was ten.
--Except that his laptop lagged again and it bothered him again, and he completely zoned out (save for that tiny detail) once again. Missing whatever else was being said to him.
There was silence again. The kind that, Koushiro knew that he had to give some kind of response to. He didn’t want to have to ask for a repeat, so he just shrugged casually and muttered a small, “Okay.” His go-to response when he forgot to listen in on what someone was telling him while he was working.
There was reply that was spoken out with an upbeat attitude. Something ending in a reassuring smile that was spoken out in good manner. Before Koushiro could illicit out some response, the weight on the couch shifted and the cushion Koushiro was perched on puffed up slightly.
Koushiro was about to glance away from his screen, a part of him even wanted to turn his head away completely to follow the traces of footsteps that were fading. His gut was already in knots over this dilemma in the first place, but having things drift further away from his original plan would definitely backfire in his face.
--Beep!
Koushiro’s computer flashed failure over half of the screen again. While deep set in a frown he checked over his last line of code and saw where he mistyped a command on accident.
His dark eyes burned. With a frustrated groan Koushiro rubbed his eyes slowly before shaking off his emotional flare.
Nothing else mattered right now. He was going to finish this in time. He was going to get this to work done even if he had to claw to a final product by the skin of his bones.
Koushiro’s fingers were still working at a steady pace. The clicks of his keyboard was a constant series of taps that faded into the sounds of the apartment. Even has the blue light from the screen burned into the dark irises of Koushiro’s eyes as he silently absorbed through the content of his program without fail.
With definitive click of his enter key, Koushiro stopped typing as he let his program work through another test. As he watched the results of his work stipulate through the lines of code, Koushiro cleared his throat to try and shake off the scratchiness. His heart thumped each time his program successfully passed a checkpoint that his previous attempts couldn’t. Unable to remain entirely positive, Koushiro clenched his sweaty palms into fists, trying to stop himself from ghost typing along the edge of his keyboard.
--Beep Beep!
A green OK, flashed over the program. Koushiro felt his quickened heartbeat pump out the breath he had been holding as he unclenched his fists. The stony gaze that was fixated on the screen instantly broke as nerves buzzed with relief. His lower back ached, his wrists cramped, and his eyes watered—but finally. He did it.  He completed it. He was finally done!
“Thank goodness...” Koushiro murmured to himself as he rubbed his eyes and stretched out his back. Saving his completed project, he could almost feel himself getting giddy with the grand sense of completion. Koushiro relaxed against the back of the couch, shaking some blood flow into his legs as he shook off any remnants of work stiffness.
In the midst of the bliss that Koushiro was ready to revel in, he noticed the surroundings that he was so keen on ignoring just moments before. The ceiling fan above him had short chains that were impossible for Koushiro to reach.  The television set in front of him that had cheery holiday commercial playing that wasn’t clear on the product it was selling. Details of the small apartment were recognized as quickly as the feeling of utter regret. When Koushiro realized just who’s worn out couch he was sitting on, he chastised himself and shut his laptop closed.
As he pushed his laptop onto the table in front of him, Koushiro saw the curled up figure of his boyfriend. Face smashed onto the armrest with his mouth wide open, the formal button up shirt creasing horribly as he wedged himself in the corner and was snoring softly. Koushiro huffed out a breath, his shoulders drooping out of guilt as he gently shook him awake, “Taichi-san,” He called out quietly.
It took a few more shakes, but Taichi soon yawned as he fluttered his eyes open. He stayed curled up with his hands under his chin until his eyes fully opened and his sight settled on Koushiro. With a dopey smile, Taichi pushed himself up, “Hey,” Taichi broke off in another yawn, “Nnh, all done?”
Koushiro smiled sheepishly in response. The guilt of their ruined plans eating inside of him as he nodded, “Yeah, I just did…Taichi-san I’m…”
“Wait—hold on,” Taichi broke out in a loud yawn, he stretched his arms behind him as far as he could, ending his cat-stretch by sinking closer to Koushiro with the same dopey smile, “What time is it even?”
Koushiro flipped to his watch, “It’s um…close to midnight,” Koushiro felt bad as the time was actually close to being the next day, “Taichi-san I’m really—“
“Mnh, okay,” Taichi shrugged, “Are you hungry? I got food earlier. It’s in the fridge if you want it.”
“Oh, that’s fine but—“
“Ah crap, I was watching one of those holiday movies, but I think it stopped playing…”
“Tai—“
“Whatever. Nothing the Internet can’t fix, right?”
“Taichi-san!” Koushiro fussed his eyes closed as he yelled. He didn’t like to yell over others, but sometimes it was just impossible to get through to Taichi otherwise.
Thankfully it worked, and instead of Taichi ranting off on another topic he paused for a moment before tentatively whispering, “Yeah?” As he turned to face Koushiro. Taichi’s back was slouched against the couch as he silently waited for Koushiro.
Koushiro sighed, Taichi’s eyes were entirely too open and warm for the regret Koushiro was feeling at the moment, “I, um,” he rubbed the underside of his eyes before taking a big breath, “I’m sorry, for all of this. For ruining this evening, it’s—“
“Koushiro,” Taichi interrupted with an easy-going smile, “You didn’t ruin anything. It’s fine. You don’t have anything to apologize for.”
“No, yes I do,” Koushiro held up a finger, “I was the one that said we should do something. I was the ones who made plans for tonight. I called to make reservations for that new restaurant that was next to the street that’s covered with all of those lights.”
“Yeah but—“
“But then, I completely ignored you because of that work email I got. And—I did think that I’d be able to settle that issue really quickly. But I was completely wrong about that as it ended up being a much bigger issue that I anticipated. I shouldn’t have rushed this project in the first place, but either way, I let work impede on personal matters again.”
Taichi scoffed, he propped his arm against the sofa and leaned his head against his arm, “Mhm,” Taichi hummed. His expression unchanging as he let Koushiro ramble on.
“Really, I should have known better! Because I was trying to finish it so quickly, I wound up omitting a crucial component of the program that prevented it from working like how it was supposed to. I didn’t realize I forgot to add that part in until trying out every other possibility first.”
“I see.”
“But because of my misstep, I wasted the entire evening. It’s not right or fair of me to ask you to keep tonight free, only to wind up being busy myself. Or to keep telling you to wait around when the restaurant and shops began to close. And I’m just—“Koushiro stopped, seething within the depths of his eyes before deflating completely, “I’m sorry. I really am. I’ll…I’ll make it up to you I promise.”
Koushiro knew that personal relationships were just as important as work. Having the ability to find someone who you enjoyed and cared for so much was a rarity. A treasure that was worth keeping and maintaining throughout the years.
There was no one else like Taichi. It was a friendship that Koushiro was grateful for, and as challenging as it was to change their dynamic from platonic to romantic, it was one that Koushiro was happy to take on. With how busy the both of them were on a day to day basis, Koushiro just wanted to take some time to spend with Taichi…but it didn’t matter how good his reasons were if he never actually followed through with his intended plans.
Taichi’s smile seemed to grow as Koushiro stopped apologizing. Koushiro sat in silence as he saw the corners of Taichi’s eyes crinkle as he broke out into a soft laugh, chuckling louder as his lips broke into a grin. Koushiro, taken aback by Taichi’s sudden giggling fit, frowned, “What. Why are you laughing?”
“Take a wild guess,” Taichi whistled through his teeth. His chuckling tapered to an end, but he was still grinning from ear to ear, “Come on Koushiro, you’re making this into a way bigger deal than it is. Its work. I understand that you have to deal with stuff when things go wrong. It’s okay, you don’t have to feel so bad about it.”
“But tonight’s plans…” Koushiro trailed off, “It would have been nice, and you would have really liked it.”
Taichi shrugged “Eh, things happen, it’s not your fault,” the cheeky grin was still plastered on Taichi’s face as the depths of his eyes twinkled, “Besides, seeing you get so worked up about date plans and showing me a good time? Oh. Shoot, I like that more than actually going out tonight.”
“Wha-what?”
“You loooooove me,” Taichi exaggerated, “You want to take me out on fancy dinners and cliché romantic walks.”
“I—I made these plans based off of some suggestions I got!”
“You’re even asking other people for love advice! Aww, Koushiro you’re so sweet!”
“No! Not like that!”
“You know I’ve been holding back on the romantic gestures because I thought that it’d too much. But now, pffft,” Taichi stuck his tongue out before his snapping his fingers and winking, “I’m not going to hold back anymore. I’m talking PDA, grand romantic gestures—you know what. I was going to buy you one of high tech thermos bottles for Christmas. But now? Forget that. I’m going to buy a star and name it after you—No wait!” Taichi clapped his hands together, “I’m going to buy you a calendar and fill it with all of our firsts!”
“What?!” Koushiro’s cheeks reddened as Taichi snickered.
“The first time we met, the first time you let me hold your laptop,” as Koushiro’s blush deepened, Taichi inched closer and closer, “when we confessed to each other, oh—can’t forget when we first held hands and kissed!”
“Now who’s making a big deal out of nothing?” Koushiro near cried, “We were just going to go out to eat and some window shopping! Stop saying such embarrassing things!”
“But it’s so much fun!” Taichi exclaimed, giggling as he practically crawled on top of Koushiro, “Don’t worry, I’ll make sure I shower you with affection and appreciation too!”
“Hey—get off!”
“Nooope!”
Koushiro tried pushing on Taichi’s shoulders, but with pressuring giggles and over exaggerated kissing noises, Taichi’s weight won out. He pushed Koushiro down onto the couch, wrapping his arms around Koushiro’s waist as he laid down fully over him. Taichi couldn’t help but feel a streak of victory as he saw the prominent blush over Koushiro’s face. Sometimes, Koushiro had an air of indifference and stoicism around him. But when it was just the two of them and Koushiro was completely unguarded and full of character, Taichi couldn’t help but feel a plethora of happiness.
Koushiro knew the soft side grin on Taichi’s face all too well, “You enjoying this?” Koushiro mumbled without any bite or drawback.
“I always enjoy being with you,” Taichi was a breath’s distance away, his nose grazing Koushiro’s, “Doesn’t matter if it’s at some couple’s retreat or just us wasting time at home.”
“…Yeah,” Koushiro whispered, staring back at Taichi’s loving gaze and feeling the warmth trickle down all the way to his quickening heartbeat, “Me too.”
“Good!” Taichi rubbed their noses together, “So, you’re going to stop feeling bad about us not going out tonight?”
Koushiro pressed his lips together, “…Fine,” he leaned into Taichi’s touch, “But I do want to make it up to you still.”
Taichi rolled his eyes, “Fine,” he compromised, “It’s not that late yet, why don’t we just make the most out of tonight.”
Koushiro found himself catching Taichi’s smile, “What do you want to do then?”
“You find the movie I was watching earlier, I’ll reheat the food?”
“Really. That’s all you want.”
“Well we’ll be cuddling and stuff.”
“Stuff?”
“Well,” Taichi dragged out the syllable before clicking off into a smile, “You’re trying to make it up to me right? You can figure that part out.”
With a slight scoff, Koushiro shook his head slightly, “Fine.”
Taichi got up first, helping Koushiro sit back up before trotting off into the kitchen. As he heard the press of the fridge being opened and the microwave being utilized, Koushiro took his time finding some movie that’d be enjoyable for the both of them to watch while finding the stray blanket Taichi kept in the living room for nights such as these.
“Ready?” Taichi asked when he came back in the room, plopping down on the couch as he placed two plate on the table in front of them.
Koushiro draped the blanket over them, and simply leaned against Taichi’s touch the second he felt an arm wrap around him, “Yeah.”
It was easy to feel relaxed as they sprawled out on the couch. It wasn’t the image that Koushiro had set out to achieve when he first settled on plans. But as movie continued and the hour got late, Koushiro found himself settling in the warm proximity of their intimacy.
Closeness, it was something that was made abundantly clear since they were stubby little kids with little insight as to what would happen between them. Koushiro didn’t exactly expect for his relationship with Taichi to become this personal. But during moments like this, each and every moment that connected them deeper felt so natural, that Koushiro couldn’t picture his life turning out any other way. Whenever Koushiro thought about that, he wanted to showcase this and more. To somehow let Taichi know just how Koushiro enjoyed spending time with him by making feel as special as Koushiro felt with him.
Taichi nuzzled against Koushiro’s neck and would place random kisses. With a soft smile, Koushiro leaned back into Taichi’s touch, snuggling up against him before turning around to meet him in the middle.
Koushiro only paid attention to the world that began and ended with Taichi’s touch. All he cared to hear was their breaths mingling to the background noise of the television and their hearts drumming against each other. Even if Taichi’s living room wasn’t exactly the ideal romantic date spot that Koushiro asked and researched about. Koushiro was glad to spend this winter’s eve here with Taichi.

SORPRESA, SORPRESA.
I was asked to write a Koumi fic, but IN SPANISH, so this is going to be EN ESPAÑOL, AMIGOS.
Maybe someday, when i have some free time, i’m going to translate it in english, pero por ahora, espero lo disfruten los que hablan en español dentro del fandom.
Sorry for you guys who don’t speak spanish.
Tumblr media
— ¡Yamato!
— exclamó Yamato mientras miraba fastidiado a Sora.
Así es, dos años en el pasado, en ese mismo invierno habían ocurrido cosas muy importantes;
— dijo Mimi, abrazando a Koushiro.
— Mimi amenzó a Yamato.
— ¡No, NO!
— ¿A qué hora, Sora-san?
— ¡BUENAS NOCHES, SORA-SAN!
Mimi miraba fijamente a Koushiro.

KOUMI WEEK - DAY ONE
Tumblr media
All the fanfics I’ll be posting for the Koumi Week are written in spanish, because it’s one of my mothertongues (the other one is catalan). I’m sorry guys, but I am not fluent enough in english (I honestly wish I were!). However, if someone wants to translate it, feel free to do it :) And don’t forget to credit the original work. Thank you for reading, I hope you enjoy it!
EDIT: THE FIC IS COMPLETED NOW. PROMPT 1 ~ 23rd SEPT.: FIRST DATE / KITCHEN TITLE: “UNEXPECTED” / “INESPERADO” WORD COUNT: NO IDEA (I’m typing from my mobile phone) PAIRING: OBVIOUSLY KOUSHIRO Izumi x MIMI Tachikawa TIME PERIOD / CONTEXT: POST TRI, after the 6th and last film; as the 5th film is not premiered yet, I’ve had to theorize about how some things will be in the future. Anyway, Tri plot is not relevant in this fanfic, so there are almost no spoilers beyond what is already known. I guess that Tri events will last a year at least, so in this story Koushiro and Mimi are in their second year as a high school students (they are in first grade during Tri events). SYNOPSIS: Mimi has been aware for a very long time that something’s going on with Koushiro. And she is always full of surprises.
No. No, verás.. necesito tu ayuda.
—”Demasiado formal y demasiado occidental.
¿Qué me tienes preparado?
—Un… Un picnic.
—Eso es evidente. Adelántame el menú.
—Pues…
—¿Y qué has comprado en Lawson?
—¿Y?
—Y nata.
—¿En serio?
—Sí.
Mimi estaba casi conmocionada.
—¿Y lo has preparado tú solo? —quiso saber.
Mimi corrió a abrazarla.
—¿Y porqué trajiste a Mimi y no a Sora?
—No pasa nada Tentomon.
—¡Sabe a té!
¿Lo has hecho tú?
¿Lo has pasado bien, Mimi-san?
Mimi no dudó.
