Tumblr media
Last year, Azur Lane was on fire. All year, there was hitter after hitter. New events, rerun events; It didn’t matter, the content was top tier. As a KMS main, i was eating really good. This year hasn't been as embarrassing in it’s riches, and not just because there has only been a single Iron Blood event. My Kraut dock is brimming with ships so I'm okay with that. Give the Ruskies and the Itais some love, they need it. No, I'm speaking more on the fact that new Events are few and far in between. The content this year, just isn’t as good as last, and it’s glaringly so. Don’t misunderstand me, i am very glad we got what we got. I was able to pick up New Jersey on a Rerun and Confluence of Nothingness added another UR option to my Kraut dock, bringing the grand total of my Rainbow options to four, so, even with this significant step back with the overall content being released this year, i am more than content. And then they dropped the new Priority Ships. Two of which are Iron Blood. One of which, is another Rainbow.
Tumblr media
I am, as we speak, in the process of grinding out Hindenburg. She is one of the two Decisive ships available in Priority Six. The other is an Eagle Union entry, Kearsarge. I’m not going to lie, i might make a run at her, too. I rarely, if ever, use Eagle Union ships but it’s hard not to want Kearsarge. Her design is dope and she’s a beast. However, my Deutsch girls come first and Hindenburg takes priority. If she ends up being anything like her other Decisive kin, she’s going to be a real goddamn problem for my enemies. Fried, Otto, and Agir are mainstays in my first Fleet. Their damage and leadership perks make for a really intimidating, and daunting to battle against, Iron Blood contingent. More than that, Hindenburg appears to be a Vanguard ship and i am in dire need of Vanguard Rainbow options. I only have San Diego to fill that spot and, again, she’s an Eagle Union who i never use, not since actual, natural, Ultra Rares have been introduced. The grind to Hindenburg is as grueling as ever but i am nearing it’s end. I’m sitting on sixty-three percent of that ludicrous twenty-four million Experience; Just the last bit to go and then she will be mine. Then i can move on to the second Iron Blood option in this Priority, Felix Schultz.
Tumblr media
Schultz is an interesting ship to me. I love her design, it smacks of Meltryllis from Fate/Grand Order and we all know how much i simp for that entire franchise, so it’s a forgone conclusion i was going to become a fan but i have no idea what I'm going to do with her. She’s another Destroyer in a dock lousy with Destroyers. Hell, we JUST got Otto in the last KMS event! That sh*t ended a month ago! AND she's one of the best in the game! Never mind Otto, we have Z46, Z1, Z16, Z2, Z24, Z25, Z26, Z28, Z35, Z36, Z20, and Z21. Then there's the Starter for Iron Blood, Z23 who, to this day, is still a top tier ship after her Retrofit. Which i obviously completed. Admittedly, there are only two Super Rare Destroyers, Otto and Z23, so Schultz is a welcome addition in that regard but, come on? Thirteen f*cking options BEFORE Felix is released?? Are you serious? Listen, my KMS choices are fruitful but, like, how about giving me a Rainbow Carrier or something? Sakura got two, Hakuryuu and Shinano. Eagle Union is sitting on Yorktown II and Enterprise. Hell, Implacable is one of the best Ships in the entire game. Slide some of that Air Superiority the German way. I understand that there is a certain amount of historical accuracy in this game so it makes sense that the Japanese and the US have all the jets while the Germans dominate with their torpedoes and U-Boats but, come on? Bismarck Zwei exists and that is a made-up boat! Make up a goddamn Rainbow Carrier then! Felix does look to be a pretty solid ship, though. I’m sure I'll find a way to incorporate her into a Primary Deployment or whatever. I just wish she was a Carrier.
Tumblr media
Priority Six is an impressive lot, no doubt. I still think the best season was Four, just in terms of sheer diversity and power, but six is nice in it’s own right. I mean, it’s really hard to argue against a class which includes Anchorage, Hakuryuu, Agir, and August von Parseval, as the strongest. There’s a great mix of diverse strength in this new class and i find myself kind of wanting all of them for one reason or another. We’ll see how that goes after i finish developing Hindenburg and Felix Schultz. Obviously, i have an eye toward Kearsarge but I'm not sure i want to invest the resources, and time, into the other two. I just don’t care enough about the Vichya Dominion and already have ship that does what Shimanto does, ready for deployment as we speak. There is a decent chance I'll end up making a run at these other boats, though, if I'm honest with myself. Like i mentioned above, Azur Lane has been pretty light on the content this year. I have ample time to do other things. Like, I've already constructed and maxed out Hakuryuu, something i never really expected to do, so why not throw two more ships i have no real interest in, into that lot, too?

Upgrade
Tumblr media
Apparently, the now weekly Azur Lane is coming a few days early because what? Why did no one tell me that the Fleet Technology for Iron Blood got updated? I was just going through, marveling at how many oats i have in my dock, and figured what the hell? Let’s see if i can upgrade this thing. The Faction cap for the KMS dock has been four, forever, so i never even attempted to see if it had been changed. Apparently, it did. To f*cking nine! How the hell did this thing more than double and i had no idea? I legit thought to myself that, eventually, Iron Blood would catch up in terms of boats, they had the fewest for a long time, and that i would max them out they released. Never once did i even question the obvious reality that, the more ships available, the more levels the Fleet Tech would increase. Like, to max out t level nine, you need four thousand and fifty faction points. I have four thousand, two hundred, and nineteen points, right now, as we speak!
Tumblr media
Like, the bonuses are always a plus but I'm sitting here mad upset because I've had two hundred and fifty Cognitive Arrays just sitting there, wasting away, for who knows how long? That sh*t is bogus but, even more than that, is the fact that there are no Carrier bonuses for Iron Blood. I mean, i get that to an extent because my darling Krauts only have six, but come? Help a cat out? You’re telling me August and Zeppelin cant get any of the bonus attention? There’s also no love for Light Cruisers. This one hurts a little less. While i appreciate the likes of Mainz, Magdeberg, and Elbing, I'm not super into them like i am the Heavy Cruisers. They get represented just fine, which suits me well because my Prinz sisters (Adalbert, Heinrich, and Eugen) definitely bask in that attention. Y’all know how much i love Eugen!
Tumblr media
It’s weird going through this thing and actually paying attention to the detailed information. I only ever go to Fleet Tech to ogle my KMS Dock but actually cross referencing the proper bonuses you get for upgrading is very interesting. Take, for instance, Ulrich von Hutten. The only proper Ultra Rare Iron Blood ship so she’s pretty strong and is currently one of my favorites. By the time i get to level nine, she’ll have a positive Health increase of one hundred and fifty points, while adding to her Accuracy by twelve. Obviously, this is the Battleship bonus so other ships like Friedrich, Bismarck, and Thuringen get that boost, too. On the opposite end of that spectrum, why the f*ck do Aviation Battleships get bonuses? Iron Blood doesn’t even have BBV ships! You’re telling me BBVs get the nod but not CVs or CVLs? What the f*ck, Manjuu? Thank you for the sub boosts but really? Is this RNG sh*t or something?? Also, where the f*ck is my Orthant rerun?!

Priority Research 7 Predictions - Ironblood
Screw it. Time to speculate who the mandatory Ironblood PR is going to be.
As always, these are just the possible options, alongside speculation about their rarity - either PR (Priority Research/SSR) or DR (Decivise Research/UR), and maybe some vague idea about what their skills could be in Azur Lane.
The Ironblood have, perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of options; just like the Northern Parliament.
Tumblr media
KMS Mecklenburg
Fuck it. Let's start strong.
Mecklenburg is, essentially, a battlecruiser. She shares her hull with both Preussen and Großer Kurfürst, however, the main difference with both of those ships (Preussen having eight 457mm guns and G.K having twelve 406mm or 420mm guns (depending on your setup)), is that Mecklenburg has sixteen 305mm guns. With a 26 second reload. And an anomalously high (for a German battleship) main gun accuracy.
This thing is a ludicrously effective cruiser hunter. She has fast shells with an almost pin-point accuracy.
Mecklenburg also has two quadruple torpedo launchers, one per side, on top of the standard highly efficient secondary gun layout comprising of 128mm gun turrets that enjoy German 1/4 HE penetration rules. Oh, also, she's faster than both Preussen and G.K (both doing 30 knots), at a top speed of 32.5 knots.
Yeah, Mecklenburg is easy DR material.
Tumblr media
KMS Schröder
Schröder is a personal favorite of mine. You can think of her as a "mini-Prinz Rupprecht".
As a supercruiser, Schröder has eight 305mm main guns in dual turrets. She has no torpedo armament to speak of. Her gimmick(s) lay on the fact that Schröder is one of the best secondary gun cruisers in the game, rivaling both Napoli and Michelangelo (which We'll Get To in the Sardegnan post). A total of 5 dual 128mm gun turrets per side as well as a total of 3 triple 150mm gun turrets (the same ones Nürnberg has in total), and a maximum range of 12km; Schröder has very fun secondary guns.
On top of that, she gets access to a very high base speed of 32.5 knots and a speed boost consumable that boosts her speed by 15% for 3 minutes. Schröder is great at flanking as she can relocate from one side of the map to the other in a relatively short time.
Honestly, she works as either a PR or a DR; but I would prefer her being a DR.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
KMS Manfred von Richthofen and KMS Max Immelmann
I'm putting them together as equally likely DR candidates for a simple reason: the only thing that differs is their air complement.
To simplify Richthofen; she's a bigger August von Parseval. Both are carrier conversions of the H-39 battleship design (so, Friederich der Große sisterships).
Max Immelmann only has access to torpedo bombers and skip bombers - the same kind of bombers found on the Soviet aircraft carrier line (so, Chkalov).
Richthofen is a standard research ship and Immelmann is a premium ship. Immelmann was over-hyped by the community as a much superior carrier to Richthofen (the entire tech tree line of German CVs is impressively bad), but she's mediocre at best. Honestly, the funniest thing you can do with both carriers is a full secondary gun build; but Graf Zeppelin is much better at that at Tier 8 than these two at Tier 10.
However, Azur Lane has a track record of taking mediocre-at-best warships and turning them into very good PRs; so if any of the two gets chosen, I have hopes.
Tumblr media
KMS Z42
From my cursory two-minute-long Google search, it seems Z42 in this configuration was never planned - or that there was never a Z42 to begin with, I can't find concrete info on that (again, after looking at it for two minutes. I'm sure there is actual info somewhere).
Z42 is a surprisingly good little ship. Her torpedoes are rubbish, but they're not the star of the show. Z42 utilizes German 105mm secondary guns as her main guns - here they are on the sides of Bismarck:
Tumblr media
These funny little guns share the standard German 1/4 penetration rules for their HE, meaning that despite the smaller caliber they deal a considerable amount of damage. On top of that, they get access to AP; a thing that doesn't exist when they're in secondary gun form, and this AP does very funny damage against anything broadside.
She's PR material, just like Felix Schultz, but she could be a very good mini-Roon in terms of gameplay and abilities in Azur Lane.
Tumblr media
KMS Wiesbaden
To me, this is the 'fuck it we ball' option. Wiesbaden is still in testing, she isn't in the game yet; but I believe she might release very soon.
Wiesbaden is a T8 light cruiser equipped with 6 dual 128mm gun turrets. That's right, she's a German Atlanta!
While Atlanta and Flint have a 4.8 second and 5.1 second reload respectively, Wiesbaden "enjoys" a 6 second reload on her main guns. However, that is compensated greatly by the fact that as all other HE guns from Germany, she has - you guessed it - 1/4 pen on HE shells, as well as six torpedo tubes per side with an 8.5km range. Oh, and a smoke screen generator. Like a destroyer.
Undoubtedly, Wiesbaden would be a PR in rarity.
Tumblr media
KMS Preussen
Finally, the Roon-to-Hindenburg analogue of Friederich der Große. Preussen is an enlarged Friederich der Große, a made-up modification of the H-42 design with 457mm main guns. The real H-42 design isn't present in World of Warships; however, H-43 is the Superbattleship Hannover. But that's besides the point.
Preussen is a bigger FdG, so why her? We already have FdG and she's already a DR. This option is more based on vibes than anything else, as Hindenburg is a bigger, better Roon. Preussen could be the same: imagine a battleship that can equip two main guns instead of just one. Also, it's been a few years since PR2. PR7 is as far away from PR2 as PR6 was from PR1, and Roon was a PR1 shipgirl.
I don't know. She's more of a random guess. G.K is more likely, but I'd prefer Mecklenburg over G.K personally.

Note
Since you think Bismarck is touch-starved.
How does she react to Hood or the Commander holding her hand?
Or Bismarck getting a warm hug ending in an innocent kiss?
in public? bismarck might flush a little, but not make a fuss in order to draw attention to it - she'd ultimately draw away because she's afraid it will ruin her image
in private? leans into - she won't request it unless its been a very bad day, but if its offered she's gladly take it, and may even take the initiative to move in closer and start cuddling

British torpedo bomber Fairey Albacore at Luqa Malta 1942.
flickr
British torpedo bomber Fairey Albacore at Luqa Malta 1942.
The Fairey Albacore was a British single-engine carrier-borne biplane torpedo bomber built by Fairey Aviation between 1939 and 1943 for the Royal Navy Fleet Air Arm and used during the Second World War. It had a three-man crew and was designed for spotting and reconnaissance as well as level bombing, dive bombing and as a torpedo bomber. The Albacore, popularly known as the "Applecore", was conceived as a replacement for the aging Fairey Swordfish, which had entered service in 1936. However, the Albacore served with the Swordfish and was retired before it, being replaced by the Fairey Barracuda and Grumman Avenger torpedo bombers, The Albacore prototypes were built to meet Specification S.41/36 for a three-seat TSR (torpedo/spotter/reconnaissance) for the FAA to replace the Swordfish. The Albacore was designated TBR (torpedo/bomber/reconnaissance) and unlike the Swordfish, was fully capable of dive bombing: "The Albacore was designed for diving at speeds up to 215 knots(400 km/h) lAS with flaps either up or down, and it was certainly steady in a dive, recovery being easy and smooth. and the maximum under wing bomb load was 4 x 500 lb bombs. The Albacore had a more powerful engine than the Swordfish and was more aerodynamically refined. It offered the crew an enclosed and heated cockpit. The Albacore also had features such as an automatic liferaft ejection system which triggered in the event of the aircraft ditching.
The first of two prototypes flew on 12 December 1938 and production of the first batch of 98 aircraft began in 1939. Early Albacores were fitted with the Bristol Taurus II engine and those built later received the more powerful Taurus XII. Boscombe Down testing of the Albacore and Taurus II engine, in February 1940, showed a maximum speed of 160 mph (258 km/h), at an altitude of 4,800 ft (1,463 m), at 11,570 lb (5,259 kg), which was achieved with four under-wing depth charges, while maximum speed without the depth charges was 172 mph (277 km/h). An Albacore fitted with the Taurus II engine and carrying a torpedo weighed 11,100 lb (5,045 kg).
A total of 800 Albacores were built
No. 826 Naval Air Squadron was specially formed to operate the first Albacores in March 1940, being used for attacks against harbours and shipping in the English Channel, operating from shore bases, and for convoy escort for the rest of 1940. Formidable's 826 and 829 Squadrons were the first to operate the Albacore from a carrier, with operations starting in November 1940. Initially, the Albacore suffered from reliability problems with the Taurus engine, although these were later solved, so that the failure rate was no worse than the Pegasus that equipped the Swordfish. It remained less popular than the Swordfish, however, as it was less agile, with the controls being too heavy for a pilot to take effective evasive action after dropping a torpedo.
Eventually, there were 15 first-line FAA squadrons equipped with the Albacore which operated widely in the Mediterranean. Albacores played a prominent role in the ill-fated raid on Kirkenes and Petsamo in July 1941. More successfully they participated in the Battle of Cape Matapan and the fighting at El Alamein as well as supporting the landings at Sicily and Salerno. During the period September 1941 to end of June 1943, No. 828 Squadron, based at RAF Hal Far, Malta, operated a squadron of Albacores under some of the most severe blitz conditions imaginable during the siege of Malta, mainly against Italian shipping and shore targets in Sicily.
Albacore in flight. The markings place it around 1940.On 9 March 1942, 12 Albacores from HMS Victorious were launched to attack the German Bismarck class battleship Tirpitz at sea near Narvik. Based on information from one of six radar equipped aircraft already launched, Albacores from 817 and 832 Squadrons launched torpedoes and some also attacked with their machine guns. A courageous attack came within 30 ft of success at the bow but ultimately the FAA's only torpedo attack on the Tirpitz at sea failed with the loss of two aircraft and damage to many of the others.
In 1943, the Albacore was progressively replaced in Fleet Air Arm service by the Barracuda. The last FAA Albacore squadron, No. 841 Squadron, (which had been used for shore based attacks against shipping in the Channel for the whole of its career with the Albacore),disbanded in late 1943.
The Royal Air Force deployed some Albacores; No. 36 Squadron based at Singapore acquired five to supplement its Vickers Vildebeests at RAF Seletar in December 1941.The remnants of the squadron was captured by the Japanese in March 1942. In 1943, No. 415 Squadron RCAF was equipped with Albacores (presumably ex-FAA) before the Flight operating them was transferred and reformed as 119 Squadron at RAF Manston in July 1944. The squadron deployed later to Belgian airfields. Their Albacores were disposed of in early 1945 in favour of ASV-radar equipped Swordfish Mk.IIIs that the squadron kept until the end of the war in May. The Aden Communication Flight used 17 Albacores between the middle of 1944 and August 1946. Some of these were delivered by sea on the SS Empire Arun in December 1945 (all from Royal Navy stock).
The Royal Canadian Air Force took over the Albacores and used them during the Normandy invasion, for a similar role until July 1944.

Flucht vor Verkehrskontrolle endet vor Stein
Tumblr media
