My most meta jewellery make ever - tea caddy tin earrings made from a tea tin caddy. The illustrations on my recent vintage tin finds are so pretty and as they were embossed, it made them slightly easier to cut out. I've matched them with my own hand made ceramic beads with tea leaf design and Czech glass fired beads. I made the ceramic beads at the base of these earrings by creating a mold from two poppy seed heads back to back. I love the textures they've created and the way that turquoise teal glaze has sunk into the ridges. They go really well with the vintage tin that feature stunningly kitsch house plants. They hang on reclaimed mother of pearl bead chains and decorated with lantern shaped Czech glass beads. Listed today, pair of vintage tin assemblage earrings in black lacquer with golden metallic print featuring two goldfinch birds above beautiful flowers and leaves. They've got a bit of a kitsch vibe with salvaged brass knots at the base and golden chains. At the top are two Victorian black glass boot buttons that's I've given a bit of gold treatment to raise the textures. On the reverse is antique sheet music I have decoupaged with iridescent flakes. I would like to think you could wear these with anything - an elegant black dress or your favourite rock band t-shirt and ripped jeans. Happy Earth Day everyone! Here's a recent Etsy listing to remind us all there is beauty in that which has been thrown away and a lot of discarded objects can be reframed into something new and relevant if we take a moment to think about it. If we treat found objects with reverence and consider their history, they can be considered even more valuable than something created brand new yesterday. And there are so many pre-loved and junk treasures to be found, the process is reasonably sustainable. These earrings were made using an old vintage tin and 1950's/1960's clip on earrings that were chipped and broken. I've managed to rebuild the hand painted porcelain in places and the bunch of roses, pansies and leaves sit in a small cavity in the vintage tin. They're nicely secured in there and the backs have been decoupaged with decorative papers. Available in my Etsy shop.
