okay SO if you didnt see my last post I decided to skip day 5 cause I genuinely didnt have any ideas and nothing I sketched worked out SOO I moved right onto day 6 !! which was (unsurprisingly) still late despite the fact I decided not to do day 5. anyways Im gona take a quick guess and say its been like well over a year since Ive last drawn a side view let alone a kiss AHAHAH but Im still KIIND of proud of this even tho it looks a little weird from my lack of practice . Im just glad I managed to finish it honestly

The majority of these were for FFXV, with the main ship being Promptis. And of the characters, Prompto had the most focus, but only by one fic.

Specifics:

Best/worst title?

The best title is “Suggested Forms of Intimacy”. It’s unique and interesting without being gimmicky, I feel.

The worst title is “Blackwall?!” which I named because I really don’t give much of a shit about those 4 old DA fics I posted. I just posted them because Rev asked me to. This title reminds me of “A Talking Cat?!”

Best/worst quote/passage? I added this question bc some of the lines in the middle of fics are good too :P

Some of my best passages from Wild Golden Storm:

“For some reason he made younger Prompto’s breath catch in his throat. Perhaps it was the wild golden light, or the incessant drumming of the rain against the window, like the dark rhythm of a heart.”

““You mean that?” he said, biting his lip to keep his voice from trembling at the thought of all that telling Noctis might entail. Anger from him. Perhaps betrayal. Another storm to come, and Prompto couldn’t bear the thought of losing him to it. But then, maybe the skies would one day part to sun if future Prompto spoke the truth.“

I don’t have any worst passages because if they were that bad I hope I’d have edited them out.

Best/worst first line?

People seem to really like the opening line of Suggested Forms: “Hey Prompto,” Noctis called from where he was sitting at the dining table of their new apartment, “About how many times a week would you say we hug?”

I think it’s pretty good, but I think my best actually might be the one from my Treasured Memories Zine piece: “Sora could pull off miracles like there was nothing to it. But for Riku, it took some work.”

The first line of A Little Espionage Among Friends isn’t really bad per se, it’s just not that exciting: “Catus was sitting at a small, wooden table in one of Lestallum’s familiar bars, the King’s Arms.”

Best/worst last line?

The one from Second First is pretty good: “And at last Prompto was kissing him — tender, tender, soft.”

The one from Nine Lives One Love is pretty horrible, but only because of the pun: “One thing Nepeta knew for certain - the future would be clawrious.”

General questions:

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted? I didn’t really have an estimate for how much I’d write this year - but if I had had one, this list would’ve totally blown it out of the water, because this is the greatest number of fics I’ve ever written in one year (I think). The word count isn’t as high as it has been in previous years (I wrote Milky Weeds in one year, and that fic is 128,000 words long, so that’s hard to top). Still, I’m pretty proud of this long fic list!

What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted last year? I think the fic that came most out of left field in 2018 was Le Portrait Du Roi. I’ve never written a fic that only has a French version before, not to mention it’s fic of someone else’s fic. @domesticfluffsimulator inspired me! What’s your favorite story this year? Not the most popular, but the one that makes you the happiest. Definitely Wild Golden Storm. I think it’s some of the best prose I’ve ever written, despite being a smut fic. Suggested Forms of Intimacy and Perchance To Wake are my other favourites - probably because they had the most effort put into them. And Suggested Forms is so warm.

Okay, NOW your most popular story. Suggested Forms of Intimacy is my most kudos’d work (166 kudos), and Say My Name is my most popular work by hits (which I figure is because the Voltron fandom is massive).

Story most underappreciated by the universe? I’m always underappreciated by the universe, but The Monster Prince got almost no comments because it’s “Noctis & Prompto” rather than “Noctis/Prompto”. At least, I assume that’s the reason. Story that could have been better? A Little Espionage Among Friends. I wrote it because I was determined to write about Catus Villa and participate in FFXV Ladies’ Week, but it’s not actually that good oTL. Sexiest story? Wild Golden Storm, the only smut one shot I wrote this year. Runner up goes to Worthy, my first femslash!

Saddest story? I don’t really do sad as a genre, but I have been known to write angst occasionally. Perchance To Wake has the most physical suffering (Prompto’s chronically ill), while The Monster Prince, The Nightmare Eater, and Like There’s Nothing To It all have a pervasive depression or anxiety to them, even though they end well. Most fun? Probably Suggested Forms of Intimacy. Story with single sweetest moment? A lot of these are very sweet, but probably Suggested Forms.

Hardest story to write? The Monster Prince. I was very burnt out and overly paranoid that someone would think it’s porn just because of the premise, even though it’s totally G rated.

Easiest/most fun story to write? The Faithful Servant was very fun to write, if only because I like doing the Ye Olden Fairytale voice. Suggested Forms was also fun, because it draws on a lot of personal experiences and good feelings.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters? Perchance To Wake helped me get a better understanding of Noctis as a character, but that’s mostly because my dear E is beta’ing it for me and she has some unique perspectives on all of the FFXV characters.

Most overdue story? Say My Name... OTL. I intend to finish it but I didn’t realise it’d take me over a year to do that.

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Oh, tonnes. I wrote a lot of action for Perchance To Wake, which is something I’m not really used to doing. I also wrote the most indulgent smut of my life. And I did a couple of other things that I’ve never done before, like completed an entire ship week (Promptis week), writing for zines (No. 6 primarily but also Treasured Memories, Crossroads, and Thulaz), writing children (The Monster Prince), writing for three zines at once, and doing personal exchanges from friends. I think the biggest thing I learnt how to do this year was how to tell any story in 2,000 words or less. Thank you, Promptis week!

As of May 3rd, 2018, it’s 539,689 words. B)

How often do you write?

This varies wildly from “zero words a day, for weeks” to “60,000 words in a month”. Recently it’s been ~500 words a day, every other day.

Do you have a routine for writing?

Planning: I almost always outline. Complexity and depth of outline depends on length of fic.

Actually writing: I sometimes like music and sometimes I don’t. Usually I have some familiar tunes playing in the background. I may write the fic out of order depending. I’d love to be more thorough here but my writing methods have changed a lot since I got sick.

What are your favorite kinks/tropes/pairing?

Kinks: I’m pretty vanilla. I also don’t feel comfortable discussing anything more than that on this blog. But if you read my fics you can probably see what I like to write in terms of smut. Kissing. Explicit consent. A bond of trust and love. Vanilla. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Tropes: Uh... I’m down for most fluff tropes. I like hurt/comfort. I’m always experimenting with new things in my writing, though. I’d like to try writing a variety of popular tropes over my career as a fic author, like collecting all the pokemon. But I don’t force it.

Pairings: Major OTPs over the years have included KatNep (Homestuck), Nezushi (No. 6), Kawoshin (NGE), KouAo (DMMD), f!Warden/Zevran (Dragon Age), Shunk (Voltron), and Promptis (FFXV). I have a lot of side pairings I enjoy as well.

Do you have a favorite fic of yours?

My current favourite fic tends to be whatever long fic I’ve written most recently. So, naturally, right now it’s “Perchance to Wake”, my FFXV Promptis Coma AU. I think this fic has the best plot of anything I’ve ever written. “Suggested Forms of Intimacy” (Promptis fluff) is pretty great as well.

Your fic with the most kudos?

“You Know The Fic” - that one One Punch Man fic where Genos is a sex robot. It has 1,137 kudos.

Anything you don’t like about your writing?

Uh... I don’t think that it stands out very much. Like people seem to enjoy it but idk if it’s really special. Trying to work on that.

Now something you do like (about your writing)?

I think I’ve come a long way since I first started writing! The plot of the Coma AU is really good, and I’ve become so much more articulate and well-rounded in every way. And it’s exciting, to know that I’m beginning to master my craft. I can’t wait to see what other ridiculous projects I’ll surprise me with in the future!
