Reader poked her lip out as she looked at her husband. Her eyes well up with emotion and tears caused by her pregnancy hormones.

“Why are you being soooo meannnnn to me.” her belly shook as she tried to stop crying.

“Sugar you are being way too dramatic about this. I'm not going out to get you a whole red velvet cheesecake at four in the morning. I wouldn't even know where to find one this early in the morning anyway.” Mike rolled his eyes as he turned over in their massive bed to look at his pregnant wife.

Her food cravings, mostly of the sweet variety, only got worse as the pregnancy went along. Now it was normal for her to get up or in this case beg Mike to go get her what she wanted.

She huffed saying “If you would have let me make those cookies last night maybe your daughter wouldn't be trying to fuck with my emotions.” Mike rolled his eyes before grinning up at her. She was lifted up on a mound of pillows and resting against their bed's headboard.

Her eyes were half-lidded as she started stares at her belly, one hand rubbing over her large bump. She was getting bigger and bigger every day and it filled him with pure joy and excitement.

“You know...” one of his own hands reached out and gently slid over hers. His voice was low and surly “You really weren't complaining last night after we got Milo down and we went back to the kitchen and had some very nice “fun” on the table-” Reader's face was hot as she tried to hide a blooming smile on her face.

“Thats not fair, you seduced me Mr.Barnes”

“Ummm well Ms.Barnes seemed to have been enjoying that seducing because she was very into it. I remember something like “Pleaee don't stop Mike- oh Mike harder! I'm going to cu-”

“Ok ok, I liked it! But still.....now I'm hungry and craving cake.” she slapped his hand making him chuckle.

For a moment it was silent before Reader let out a slightly shaky breath, her hand stilling on her belly for a moment.

Mike watched in silence for a moment before saying “You ok?”

She nodded with a sigh, her hand moving to the underside of her bump.

“She's moving more these days that's all. It's a strange feeling to have her fully moving, kicking, and punching... it's just new and weird I guess. Kinda hurts sometimes and is super uncomfortable. But I'm glad she's finally moving because it makes all of this feel real.” she smiled down at her growing bump. Mike watched before scooting over to her, he rested his head on her chest.

They both sat for a while as they just watched her belly. It moves up and down with her breathing but a few minutes later they finally get to witness it together. They watch as the skin of her belly stretches with a kick.

“Wow, she really can kick! That looked like a pretty strong one too.”

“I know right, it feels like just yesterday they were telling us she would be moving soon. Now she's full-on making a big show of being able to show every she's really in there.”

Reader giggled as she used both hands to smooth over her belly.

Suddenly the baby monitor went off making both adults look over to the small waki taki. The small light on the device was flipped on as the tall tale gargling and babbling started. Milo was starting to wake up for his feeding. Lucky for Reader, because of her hormones and being around Milo she had started lactating early so she was able to breastfeed.

She started to shift but Mike stopped her with a hand, he rolled back over to his side of the bed and got up.

“I got him don't worry.”

Reader gave a tired smile before rolling her eyes.

“Hey you act like that and maybe I won't make a detour to the kitchen and fish out the box of chocolate chip cookies I hid a while back because I knew this would happen.”

Her eyes widened before she made a small zip motion over her lips.

“I will happily stop myself right now. Please go get my baby and the cookies our other baby wants.”

So did any other autistic people have ABA therapists encourage your parents to have you participate in a "variety of activities" as a young kid to prevent you from developing special interests?

Did that prevent you from practicing an activity long-term, thus keeping you from being good at anything? And as an adult, did that inhibit your ability to develop hobbies and find interests that you're passionate about?

Because that’s sure what it did to me.

I remember almost none of those skills now. #Because id only do it for a year or two before I was encouraged to try something else before it became a special interest #I feel like id be in a much better place now if i was simply allowed to have special interests #aba is abuse #aba is meant to eradicate autistic traits for the convenience of parents. not to produce healthy adults #Im trying to develop new hobbies now. But with the way i was raised its extremely difficult to learn and keep practicing #this certainly isnt the worst thing that ABA has done to me. But its one that i dont see many others talk about #i wish i had been allowed to have special interests. I wish i had been allowed to be autistic without ridicule #the fact that my family STILL looks back on my 'variety of interests' as a good thing is also depressing #the fact that they keep saying 'its a good thing we got early intervention' makes me upset #I know that they mean well. Theyre glad i can communicate verbally and could graduate college #But they treat my autism like its cancer. The constantly tell me that the abuse was justified. That i NEEDED it #this is why we need autism ACCEPTANCE. Not awareness. ACCEPTANCE.

There is a song I want to make a lawrusso video with forever. The problem is.. I totally suck at cutting videos XD I can't do any cool effects or something, I use windows movie maker and it will be totally lame but I still wanna do it.

A variant could be a collage with quotes from the lyrics X3 But I really wanna make the video somehow. Does anyone know a video programm that is free and for dummies but has some nice features? =)

i just think there's something particularly "Americana" about the karate kid movie. i mean, it opens with two east-coast italian-americans taking to the open road and, in the background of all this western scenery, we get these very obvious western themes in the score--like, the movie is just sitting there with a bull-horn in the directors chair chanting "They're going West. They're going West. They're going West." and they end up going so Very west that Daniel's whole story revolves around a cultural product/study directly transported from the "East."

(and i also think that there's a fun little intersection between the Japanese film and Italian film centered on "The American West" that there's no way John Avildsen wasn't very aware of, and that's got to have been, if not consciously, circling around his Film-Mind the entire time he was making karate kid.)

and when you compare it to avildsen's Other Sports Movie (Rocky) which is such a love letter to the make-up of the industrial city of the American East, the karate kid feels like an answer to that city in so many ways. there's that joke that lucille says when she's asking daniel if he's met any cute girls and she goes "The whole world's turned blonde!" which is funny to hear but also funny when you consider that it's very much a comment on a misunderstanding of what southern californians Look Like--there's the blonde anglo-ish-americans living in Encino and then there's all the kids daniel befriended for like a second before johnny kicked his ass on the beach.

daniel, looking around the area surrounding mr. miyagi's house, goes "looks like newark." but it's mr. miyagi who takes daniel to places that are unmistakably The West---his backyard, the beach, fishing, his own personal history, etc. in direct contrast with the weirdly sanitized cobra kai spaces, which could be Anywhere.

something like this (with all the tiny american fascists in a row) compared to:

a Place.

#not sure What my point here is #i just think it's Interesting i guess? #like-- competing understandings of american identity but wrapped up in a family friendly Sport Film? that's john avildsen's forte apparentl #there's also the fact of both daniel and miyagi being considered Hyphen americans of some sort #cast against a vietnam war vet and blonde-haired-blue-eyed-could-be-cast-as-rolph-in-the-sound-of-music johnny #and miyagi's history with the internments camps during world war ii and how that's still an enormous scar #particularly in japanese american communities on the west coast #north and south #there's a Western ethos to the whole movie #about expansion west and the kind of people youre going to find there the further west you go #and the kinds of territorial fights youre going to fight #anyway now im rambling bc i can't find my point #karate kid

#it is so pure! #the '90s was a great era for family tv #I was thinking tonight how I usually hate the trope of hopeless husband + smart wife who always knows better #which this premise could easily fall into #but it avoids the usual pitfalls because he is so genuine in his love and his efforts to do right by his family & seek wisdom in Situations #and she is sweet and playful rather than critical and dismissive #and just the pure 24 karat comedy gold #absolute classic
