how much does shark dudes quirk impact their dental care procedures?

Like real sharks, he loses his teeth very easily and they grow back very fast, so he doesn't actually have to worry about going to the dentist very often! He (like the rest of his family) have a very strict cleaning routine with specialized brushes but if there is a little bit of decay on a tooth, it's super easy to just pull it out and let a new one grow back

Jams I wanna know how does Kaito's blood frenzy tie to him suppressing 'negative' emotions...

I can imagine they're kinda related even though the frenzy is mostly a physical response, i thought bc he hates it so much it might be another reason why he doesn't want to associate himself with any such emotions (and from there, behaviors) at all?

okay apologies if this is not super coherent because I will have to violently swerve to avoid spoilers

the frenzy is triggered explicitly by the scent of human blood, but it's absolutely linked to his emotions too. The more unstable his mental state, the harder it is for him to resist the pull of the frenzy and the quicker he'll fall into that feral state with no control. If he was perfectly calm and relaxed when presented with the smell of blood he'd have a much better chance of staying lucid for long enough to stop himself from turning, but for obvious reasons if he or someone else is bleeding he's likely to be feeling anything but calm (not to mention he has haemophobia too, which just compounds the issue). His first assumption is that /any/ heightened emotion puts him at a greater risk of turning, and that losing his composure completely could trigger a frenzy even without blood present, which of course terrifies him and causes him to repress everything even more than he did before

the emotional repression stuff actually starts way before the blood frenzy gets awakened but the two are definitely a compounded issue. He genuinely feels like who he is when he's angry or upset is a different person that he doesn't recognise and he conflates "the beast" with the blood frenzy. he doesn't allow himself to get even vaguely upset or angry at things and he lets people treat him in genuinely heinous ways Shin because he can't bear the idea of confrontation. he doesn't know what the frenzy is really, or what causes it, so he eliminates as many possibilities as he can, and that involves really just shutting down emotionally. A lot of this comes from his mutant status and the feeling that he's inherently more dangerous to be around than others, and the emotions that he's feeling just seem to confirm that bias in his head. he's spent his entire life trying to hide his "monster" side but now it's like it's got a mind of its own and it's taking over him and he hates it

Kaito is very open and honest about his feelings (once he’s aware of them himself) to the point where it can come off as quite blunt and disarming. He does get flustered or embarrassed if someone shows an interest in him, but he doesn’t understand why you would want to lie about your feelings or keep them a secret. If he cares about you, romantically or otherwise, he will tell you as such in just as many words and be completely straight-faced and serious when he does. He’s not the most physically affectionate person (due to his size and rough skin) so he expresses his feelings through his words. He’s no good at poetic language so his compliments are usually very direct and unambiguous

unless a specific question is asked/a specific character is requested I'm just gonna pick one at random sooooo let's talk about Kaito

I think he gets stereotyped (both in and out of the story) as this slow, dumb, kinda goofy guy but he is a lot sharper and smarter than people give him credit for

It's partly intentional - he keeps his thoughts to himself and doesn't contribute in class as much as he could because he doesn't want to draw unnecessary attention to himself, at least in the beginning when he's still very self-conscious about his size and appearance

Kaito notices things. He is often the first to notice an odd mannerism or change in behaviour but doesn't always have the social vocabulary to figure out the reason behind it. (For example, he notices that Shin picks at his scabs a lot, especially after combat training, but isn't able to make the further connection that he does it more when he loses and it's a stress response)

His lack of social vocab (mostly due to a rather sheltered childhood, but he's also just not very good at spotting social cues even when he knows what they mean) also makes him kinda blunt at times. He's never intentionally rude but he tends to say things very literally rather than dance around an uncomfortable subject with vague metaphorical language

He's a very logical and methodical judge of character, and usually pretty accurate, even if again he can't quite work out /why/ someone is the way they are, he's good at predicting patterns of behaviour and therefore spotting when something is wrong

He's never really been taught how to handle extreme or complex emotions like anger, grief or jealousy, so when he starts to experience them as a teenager (all enhanced by virtue of being a developing adolescent) it really frightens him, and his instinctive response is to shove them all down and pretend they aren't there (something which definitely won't cause problems for him in the future...)

This is why he comes across as such a chill "nice but dumb" person to most outside observers, he rarely gets frustrated because he just doesn't allow himself to feel that emotion of irritation, for fear of the kind of person he could be if he expresses it. Unfortunately on the other side of the coin it also means he struggles to truly feel joy or to articulate his feelings about other people to them

All this ties together to make one of Kaito's biggest weaknesses his passivity. There's nothing wrong with being a pacifist, but his lack of anger (or any other emotion) means he rarely gets involved in other people's problems and simply waits to be asked or told to do things rather than act on his own accord, which means his friends and classmates undergo some pretty horrendous bullying while he stands by, before he realises that actually makes him a shitty friend

He'll tell you that he's not super influenced by a person's looks, but he's an absolute sucker for an aquatic mutation/literally any kind of ocean aesthetic vibe

For Kaito love is something that's built up over time with patience and understanding. A relationship is about being able to trust and rely on each other, and having strengths that the other doesn't so you balance each other out

💚 GREEN HEART - what things make your oc feel comforted? hugs, kisses, food?

When he's tired or stressed the best thing to do would be to run him a bath and just let him soak for a good long while. Then wrap him up in a blanket and stick on a nature documentary while he cuddles you

💖 SPARKLING HEART - are they a subtle or a showy lover?

Subtle but not shy. He's not averse to public displays of affection, as long as the other person doesn't mind. Grand gestures aren't really his thing but he still likes to make his affections known because he's very proud of the relationships he's built! He wants everyone to know he's your boyfriend!

🤥 LYING - are they good liars? do they have tells to show they're lying?

Kaito is a terrible liar. He rarely sees the point in being dishonest or obscuring the truth, unless someone is actively in danger or something, so he's usually very open and disarmingly honest with his thoughts. If he does have to lie/omit the truth, you can usually tell from the shake in his voice and his comedically bad poker face

🍀 CLOVER - do they believe in luck? are they lucky?

Not massively. He believes in luck in the sense that some people are better suited to success in certain things (which I guess in a lot of cases is just privilege) but he's not really superstitious about luck or considers himself lucky/unlucky

💗 GROWING HEART - if they have a crush, is it noticeable? what changes when they're in love?

Probably not as noticeable as you'd think - he's nervous and awkward around almost everyone he doesn't know well, so if he's got a crush on someone it probably wouldn't look that different to an outside observer. If it's a well-seasoned crush on someone he knows well already it might be slightly easier to spot - he's very honest and open about letting people know he cares about them so chances are once he's figured out his feelings by himself he'd just outright tell them lmao

So fucking easily. If they get even the slightest suspicion that you might not respect them or their identity they'll drop you like a hot brick. Unfortunately this often includes honest mistakes and slip-ups, but they're trying to learn how to be more lenient with those and actually give people a chance to apologise/do better

🍩 DONUT - favourite sweet treat?

Take no shit from anyone. Don't waste your time trying to justify yourself to people who don't think you should even exist. Fight less. Talk more. Say sorry sometimes.

Do you have an idea what Kaito's Mother, Father, and younger sisters look like?

I haven't drawn proper art for any of them yet, but I have rough ideas for their designs! Kaito's mother is very similar to him as her quirk is also a reef shark mutation (white tip instead of black tip, so her markings are a bit different), and both his sisters also have shark mutations (tiger and nurse) so they also have the thick skin, gills, sharp teeth and bright markings. All three female family members have finned tails too. Kaito's dad is just a regular ass looking man

Not currently! There's definitely a few surface level "ah this person is so cool and they're talking to me!" kind of feelings for a few different people, but nothing that I would consider romantic at this point. He's had one or two proper crushes when he was a bit younger, but at the moment nobody specific has caught his eye (for now 👀)

💥 COLLISON - what emotions do they have trouble dealing with?

Any form of intense negative emotion - anger, grief, jealousy, etc. - he was quite emotionally sheltered as a kid and never really taught how to experience or express those emotions in a healthy way, so when he hits adolescence and everything gets way more intense and confusing in the emotions department, it’s all very overwhelming and he doesn’t like the way it makes him feel so he suppresses his negative emotions a lot of the time

🌙 MOON - what is your oc's greatest wish? how far are they willing to go for it?

At the moment, other than to become a pro hero one day, Kaito’s current biggest wish is to get a spot on the extremely prized internship with his big hero Gang Orca. Only students with grades in the top 20% of their class get accepted so he has to work his way to the top to get accepted, but he would never cheat or hurt anyone else’s chances of success for his own gains unlike someone else I could mention

🎵 MUSIC NOTE - what is their playlist like? their favourite artists? do you associate a particular song with them?

Kaito’s playlists would be lots of chill instrumental or acoustic stuff, and lots of lofi beats to study to. Songs I associate with him include Aquaman and Tiger Teeth (both by Walk the Moon)

❇️ SPARKLE - what is their most prized possession? what do they value?

Kaito tends to values places and people over possessions, but his most beloved thing would be his collection of shark teeth from his family. It’s a family tradition that when one of them loses a tooth it’s gifted to another family member or loved one as a symbol of protection. A close second would be his little aquarium with all his pet fish in
