I'm almost afraid to ask, but who's Ken Penders and why is he like That Guy?

It’s been a while since I’ve read a detailed breakdown of the situation and I mostly just remember hearing about it as it went down (as a Sonic comic reader at the time)

Basically Ken Penders was hired to write the Archie Sonic comics for quite a bit of time and during his tenure he put a ton of focus on Knuckles and the echidna species and also introduced a ridiculous amount characters, lore, and storylines, y’know, the usual. The Big Thing he’s known for, though, is suing for copyright of pretty much everything he did and touched during his employment and, to everyone’s surprise, won (sorta). The company seems to have lost the contract detailing ownership of the IP which meant they couldn’t use ANYTHING he introduced into the comics, essentially forcing them to nuke the story’s continuity over 20 years in. IIRC Sonic went from Archie to IDW shortly afterwards.
