Pairing: Josh x Reader x Matt

It all started in high school.

You weren't a part of the main friend group, you just had a few classes with Matt and Josh.

Over time, the two boys would get close to you and they were both aware of each other’s feelings.

Surprisingly, Matt was the first one to make a move because he knew it’d be over if Josh got to you first.

He invited you to come to one of his games and you were more than happy to go.

On game day, Matt gave you one of his jerseys to wear.

His heart swelled with pride and adoration when he saw you walk through the halls with his number and last name <3

Right before the game started, you called him from the stands and he ran over to you like his life depended on it-- but he faltered when he saw who was standing next to you with an arm slung over your shoulders.

Josh.

Josh wore a smug smirk as he saw Matt’s tough composure waver, but Matt wasn’t going to quit so easily.

“I’m so happy you made it!” Matt beamed, the field lights creating a glow around him. 

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world! Go make me proud.” You smiled, leaning over the stand and placing a kiss on Matt’s helmet.

Both Josh and Matt burned at this interaction-- Josh burned with jealousy while Matt burned with passion. 

Your school won with a record breaking score of 41-3, much thanks to Matt’s touchdowns.

After the game, you three went to grab a bite to celebrate the victory.

Even though it was supposed to be ceremonious, there was a heightened rivalry between Matt and Josh ever since your kiss. The two wouldn’t stop sending snide remarks or trying to one up each other.

“I know you both want me, so why not share?” Your abrupt comment shocked the two into silence. 

Of course, they would have to learn to share, but it would also mean that they’d both have you.

And you had no problem having twice the love <33

It's was 'just a prank' pt.3

A/n: I just had a cool idea as to how I can use the Poll options so you guys can help sway the story so it kinda feels like you're playing the game. 🙂🙃🙂 let me know if you guys like it, if not I won't use it in future chapters

Emily and Matt had left after Emily blamed Matt for losing an expensive bag of hers and she dragged him along with her to go find it, Sam had decided to take a bath after being in the freezing cold.

Josh had sent Chris and Ashley off together to find a spirit board he had laying around somewhere, while Everyone was gone you and josh had a soft silent conversation. Filling time waiting for the others to get back, that's when your conversation was interrupted.

"Alright, Josh! Let's see if you know how to hook up the hot water in your big ol' fancy lodge!" Sam teased as she made her way from the bathroom to you and Josh.

"oh yeah, it's just down in the basement. Y'gotta fire up the boiler," he said as if she knew how to do that, after a moment he realized that she couldn't possibly know how to do that and jumped up saying he'd help, Sam turns to leave to the basement and Josh turns to you, "wait for Chris and Ash Babe, don't start without me." you smile at him and nod your head as he gives you a twink, turning on his heel and following after Sam to help her.

You sat in silence looking around the lodge as you think about the long night ahead of you, your thoughts interrupted by Ashley making her way towards you and sitting on the couch awkwardly, "so..." she started before she was cut off, you both heard a scream.

What was going on?

You rushed to the basement door and pulled it open, but nobody moved. Then Chris pulled down a dark cloak from his head and said "mhm you just got munked!"

Sam didn't find this funny, She yelled at Chris for his low-blow prank before turning to Josh and accusing him of being in on it.

You slightly huffed, Josh didn't do low-blow pranks. His panks were always more intricate and complex than a simple chase in dress-up.

You all made your way to the living room, Josh teasing about how Sam, "totally pissed herself," and Sam huffing in annoyance.

Sam "had enough spooks for one night" and left to finally take that hot bath, while you, Josh, Chris, and Ash set up to use the spirit board.

You and Ash both took turns asking questions and things took a turn quickly...

"S-i-s-t-e-r --"

"Sister..."

"no! No no no we didn't kill them it was just a Prank! We didn't mean-"

"you know what... This isn't real."

"no Josh you said! You said you wanted to use the spirit board!"

"yeah well, m'not sure if you think-- messing! With me is gonna somehow help me deal with my grief but I don't need this right now."

Josh stood from his seat and began to walk away, you followed behind him.

"No, Josh C'mon-"

"no! You guys are full of it!"

And with that, you and Josh made your way down the lodge stairs.

You both stood there holding each other for a moment before Josh said he needed to do something and left you alone.

You wandered back with the two you last spoke to, they seemed to be freaking out about a photo they had found and decided to look for Josh.

"Josh was just with me," you explain

"If you go now we'll catch up to him."

Only you didn't find Josh, you all found ghosts, set up doll houses, and a passed out Sam tied in a chair, and finally you all found a man in a mask.

Chris was the first one to be put under, Ashly panicking tried to stab the killer with scissors she found you gasped as the masked man cursed under his breath, "live and learn!" and with one hit knocked Ashley out cold, and then he slowly turned to you...

You opened your eyes to a gruesome sight, Chris on the verge of tears as he looks back and forth between his long-time crush and best friend.

A distorted voice demanding that Chris make a choice before you put any input Chris pulled the lever,

"No! Chris! I thought we were friends!" Josh calls as Ashley screams and turns away,

"ahh, I see. You have chosen to save Ashley."

You rival Ashley with a Bloodcurdling scream as you watch Joshes body get torn in half, "NO! CHRIS WHY?!" you cry out as the gate opens and Chris rushes to Ashley telling her it's okay and to not look,

"why! Can't I look Chris? tell me he's okay, pleaseeeesss-" she whines out in fear, looking at Joshes hanging body as she lets out a frightened scream and falls into Chris, you cry as you hold onto Joshes cold hand.

"I'm... I'm so sorry..." Chris whimpers you shake your head, "I would've picked Josh if it were me, I would've done the same as you, Chris..."

Just as you all ran out of that shed you were all in you ran into Emily and Matt.

Chris cried out to them about what he had done. What you all had to see.

Matt was the most freaked out and Emily seemed to think it was some prank at first until she saw how scared you all really were.

You all made a plan to split up, Chris and Ashley go back to the lodge and see what they can find and be safe. While Matt and Emily look for the radio in the old tower.

my personal until dawn pronoun/sexuality headcanons but they accidentally turn into normal headcanons too (coming from a bisexual she/they user please don't burn me)

Ashley: she/her, biromantic asexual | just doesn't feel sexual attraction like everyone else. thought she was weird for it then her friends reassured her once she came out (mike joked around with her a lot because he's like the total opposite)

Chris: he/they, bisexual | this man has definitely experimented with Josh before, you cannot tell me otherwise. also maybe possibly transgender and his friends got together and made him a little care package after his top surgery (he cried. he totally cried.)

Emily: she/her, says she's straight but... mm, idk.... | has drunkenly made out with Jess more than once before but she acts like it never happened (they've all seen it happen at least once)

Jess: she/her, unlabeled because she doesn't need a label to tell her what she is (real) | has also kissed Josh once because he's Just That Kissable (also real) but that's all that happened, he still teases her about it sometimes though

Josh: he/him, pansexual | doesn't rlly have a type, as long as they're nice to him and kinda hot then he might develop a crush. jokingly flirts with everyone and they're all pretty used to it, he and Chris go back and forth for hours sometimes just coming up with the stupidest pet names for each other and everyone else is just like "ohh my god shut up already please shut up.."

Matt: he/him, pansexual | literally does not care if someone uses they/them on him though. also, enjoys giving his friends platonic kisses (mostly Ash on her forehead because they're silly friends) and he also kissed Jess on the forehead as a comforting gesture after the whole incident in the mines. fight me, he's love-shaped

Mike: he/him, bisexual | will jokingly respond to she/her and pretends to be one of the girls when Emily and Jess are gossiping. playfully flirts with everyone in their friend group (like josh) but Matt was tired of it and casually flirted back once (surprising bc he always is like "dude, we both have gfs...") and Mike stuttered so hard he almost choked and then tried to play it cool like nothing happened (everyone saw it happen, michael)

Sam: she/her, also unlabeled | doesn't really like labels that much, just wants to like who she likes. doesn't give a shit about they/them being used on her either. she fr just does not care. definitely used to have a small crush on Josh before everything. she, like Matt, loves giving her friends affection though like a small side hug or bumping shoulders or straight up squishing her cheek against theirs bc it makes them laugh

BONUS because i almost forgot about them..

Hannah: she/her, straight | super loud ally when it comes to pride month, rainbows everywhere. Josh and Beth get embarrassed but they love their sister <3 also she definitely crushed on Matt at one point

Beth: she/they, lesbian | tried to date a guy once, never again. does not understand when Hannah gushes over Mike. may or may not have liked Sam at some point but stayed away because she thought Josh and Sam liked each other and she didn't want to get in the middle of it because she wanted Josh to be happy

note: ignore the fact that they're almost all bisexual, it's because they're really fucking fruity, shhh

Chris absolutely 100% purposely pronounces a word wrong just because he knows it will piss off Josh and Ashley.

I mean obviously Josh does the same thing as well because both he and Chris know it's the easiest way to annoy and bug Ash let's be real here, but this isn't about that. Oh no, this is about the single word that Chris gleefully discovered will set both Josh and Ashley off ranting and raving at him while he pretends to have no idea why they're so angry at him.

And that word?

Macabre.

Does Chris know that it's actually pronounced 'ma-cob'? Of course he does, it and all it's synonyms are basically like 50% of Josh's vocabulary, like come on here. Does he still constantly say 'mac-aber' with the justification that that's how it's spelt so obviously that how it's said? Oh you know it.

Does this also mean that Josh and Ashley have a full 5-step plan that fully details exactly how they plan on murdering Chris when he finally says it one too many times? A plan that only gets more and more macabre (heh) in the details every time he adds to that count?

Well, let's just say that they fully believe that no jury would ever convict them if they followed through with it and leave it at that...

Part One: Sammy (Not beta read)

Author’s note: Hi! This was made on a whim and I don’t know if it is good enough to read. Feel free to comment anything that I should change.

Everyone knew that Josh had changed. No matter how hard they all tried to stay the same, the fact is, Hannah and Beth were gone.

The twins.

Josh’s little sisters. Both gone in one night.

The changes were there. Everyone knew Josh changed. Chris knew it, Ashley too. Hell, even Matt fucking Taylor knew about it.

None of them did anything to that change. No one except for Sam.

Sweet and caring Sam who was grieving just as much as Josh was. No one knew the twins as well as these two did. They knew how much of a loss Hannah and Beth were and the world didn’t even stop when they died. Sam resented that.

Every day it hurt like hell going up the steps of the Washingtons’ mansion, always expecting the sunny high-pitched welcome from Hannah followed by Beth scolding her. Sam wished she could just turn back time. A time when Hannah and Beth were here.

With a deep inhale, Sam went up the steps to the mansion, empty duffle bags in her arms. She pressed the doorbell beside the tall wooden door the Washingtons had as an entrance to their estate. Once upon a time, she wished she had all this, now she just silently begs to get out of the place.

“Come in. The door is open!” Josh yelled, snapping Sam from her train of thought. She slowly pushed the door and walked into the mansion. It felt so empty. It felt so lifeless. “Sammy, hey! Glad you could make it with us.” Josh slowly walked over to where Sam stood by the entrance, dirty clothes and sweat slowly dripping down his forehead.

“Of course I’ll be here, Hannah would have haunted me if she found out anyone but myself touched her stuff.” Sam was happy Josh still sounded a tad bit genuine at least when he laughed at that joke. It’s been hard enough for this family and if Sam fucked it up it’s over.

She would have lost all of Hannah.

“You know what I mean Sammy. I really appreciate all this effort. You know, mom even anticipates you. Said you had this aura of normalcy.” Sam didn’t know what to say but thank goodness Chris and Ashley saved her ass with their loud bickering. “No Ash, you see these blue hair ties are more appropriate to be with the cool-toned accessories rather than the-“ Josh rolled his eyes, the action making you smile as he turned around and calmed his two best friends down. Sam was thankful for that. The things some of their friends did that felt so normal. “Damn Cochise, could you be any louder than a Scream Queen?”

The two newcomers quickly scrambled their feet towards Josh as they bickered about the difference of tones in the blue beanies Beth kept for winter. Beth’s beanies…Another shot to Sam’s already bleeding heart.

Ashley suddenly paused mid-sentence as she finally recognized Sam who still stood in place. “Sammy! Thank God you’re here. The testosterone in this room kept on rising and I was getting sick of it.”

Sam laughed and greeted Ashley with a hug. It wasn’t long until she was pulled by her sleeve to finally help pack up Beth and Hannah’s things.

It’s been hours of packing and she didn’t miss how Josh longingly looked at Hannah’s necklace that he gifted her when she and Beth turned sixteen. She didn’t miss how he heaved a sigh as Chris babbled on about stupid pranks people started to come up with after Josh graduated highschool. She certainly did not miss the fact that Josh looked at her when he held the friendship bracelets she bought from Canada for the twins, Josh, and herself. Josh slipped away quietly as Ashley and Chris continued their “fight-flirt” packing the rest of the stuff in the duffle bags.

“Hey guys, I’ll just get a breather. That alright with you?”

“Sure Sammy! Take as much time as you need.” It felt weird being pitied. Sam knew Ash didn’t mean it but holding her hands when she speaks out and talking to her in a softer tone felt odd. So they were normal to each other but not with me. What more with Josh? “Don’t worry Sam-a-roni, Ashley and I can finish this. You relax.” Chris chimes in as he hauls the clothes Mrs. Washington will donate.

Sam walked out the same door Josh used to go to their indoor greenhouse. It was a peaceful place. Had the most color out of all the house, a beautiful distraction. “Boo!” Sam jumped as she felt Josh’s hands on her ankle.

“Jeez, Washington, how gentlemanly of you.” Josh let out a few good laughs then stood next to Sam. “What brings ya out here, Sammy?”

“I needed to breathe.”

“Needed to breathe or you just can’t handle being pitied.” That caught her off guard. She visibly tensed as she touched the hydrangeas Mrs. Washington prided herself in. “I-Um…Yeah. It does mess up my mood when they do that.”

Josh nods and sits down on one of the benches near Sam. He pats the place next to him and she sits down. Maybe a little too quick and eager for her own liking.

“They’ve all been doing this. This puppy eye thing and all that shit.” Josh snorted as he looked around the plants around them, “It’s like living the textbook readings in Psych class.”

“Or the start of a horror movie.” Sam chirps in. They both looked at each other and smiled. “How are you, Sammy?” It sounded so genuine and warm. It wasn’t even the fact that Sammy had an inkling of a crush on Josh for years, no. It was because Josh didn’t act like she was fragile. “I’m not okay, Josh.” Comfortable silence hung in the air for a moment.

“I’m honestly super okay now. Like I’ve come to terms and I accepted it and all. But it’s just so…Hard.” Sam’s vision blurs as she continues but she was thankful for the warm arm that pulled her close for comfort.

“I thought I heard Hannah and Beth. Last night I was in my room and I swear I heard the usual giggling across the hallway.” Sam’s heart dropped. Sam knew Josh changed but it fucking hurt hearing him say it. She saw the pills he hid in his closet. She smiled up at him and gently hugged him tighter. “Then sometimes I see them outside by the garden, tending with mom.”

Sam can’t lose Josh too. She noticed his faraway glances when they’re together. She noticed his body going rigid at random parts of the day as he winces and scratches his ears. There was something wrong and he won’t tell anyone. She needs him to tell someone.

“How about you, Washington? Are you okay?” She never let go from the hug and even scooted closer to him. Josh smiled down at her and nodded.

Sam prayed that he would just talk to her more. She can’t lose him. Not when it’s just been three months of Hannah and Beth walking out of their lives.

Sammy clung on to her last hope that Hannah and Beth lived on. She clung on the only person that understood her and felt her welcome. She silently pleads in her head to all the almighty beings to at least spare Josh from the cruel realities of life.

Josh and Mike is probably one of my favorite dynamics in the game tbh (bonus points if Sam’s there too)

One week at school they pretended to be dating for the entire week. Mike was dating Emily at the time and for that entire week she refused to sit at their table anymore because she was so annoyed. The whole school thought they broke up. Jessica obviously sits with Emily but she honestly thinks it’s pretty funny, she keeps talking about it and calling them a cute couple while Emily is stabbing her fork into the table.

Mike and Josh have also set off the fire alarms once, and they technically got away. The entire student body knew it was Josh and Mike, but they don’t have any proof, so they didn’t get in trouble

Beth is always encouraging these pranks, she actually plans a lot of them. She’s the brains while Mike and Josh are the men of action

It was 'just a prank'

<-Part 1

It was a long long struggle; Josh being put into a Mental hospital, being given medication that he would insist didn't work and no one listening, him crying to you about how helpless he felt.

You wanted to help him, more than anything you did.

Hearing his whine and whimper in his sleep as he clung to you, how he always woke up with a sob and placed his head right into the crook of your neck as he mumbled to himself, you listened kissing his forehead and giving him words of reassurance.

He never kept secrets from you, you are the one he tells everything!

About how he doesn't like his meds and sometimes refused to take them, about how he can still hear and see his sister and how they taunt him, about how he hated the feeling of not only his parents not wanting to deal with him in such a state they just wanted to send him off and Pump him full of drugs that don't work just to shut him up for a few hours, about how he was... Angry that all his friends just... Abandoned him... It's not that he wanted to see them but it bugged him that they never even bother to check-in. Especially Sam and Chris, he wasn't really mad at them.

He was a bit bitter that Sam didn't just stay at the door and wait to stop Hanna before she went in, and how Chris challenged him to that stupid drinking game... But then again he didn't know, he couldn't have known... And the fact it still pissed Josh off made him feel worse.

He wasn't a good brother...

He wasn't a good son...

He wasn't a good friend...

He wasn't a good person...

It had almost been a year now, and you and Josh only continued to get closer.

Instead of just going straight to bed to prepare for his night terrors; you both stayed up facing each other, talking about anything and everything sometimes you would make Josh smile, it was small... But it was a start.

In the mornings you would both wake up tangled in each other's limbs, but instead of you both awkwardly scrambling to detangle yourself as you used to at first, you now just laid with one another, not saying a word laying there, occasionally looking into the eyes of each other and not looking away.

It was a cold night, winter was coming.

The wind blew harshly on the old Washington home, you and Josh were sitting under the large fuzzy covers of his warm, soft bed; huddled close watching silly cartoons.

He needed a break from horror...

The only light in the room coming from the tv and the small bedside lamp, your arms wrapped around each other added to the warmth and you both were content.

Well, at least you were until Josh's phone lit up with a notifying 'DING!'

He reached for his phone without looking away from the scene on the tv screen, he unlocked his phone his eyes lingered on his phone.

But what got your attention was a little sniffle, when you looked up at him his eyebrows were stitched together and he was biting his quivering lower lip.

"Josh? What's wrong?" You ask him, your voice softer and in a high pitch than normal.

You sat up, pulling him close and letting his head rest on your chest. Josh tries to take a deep breath to keep himself together... He was doing so well...

"I just... I don't know what they want from me. I'm better now. I am! It's almost the anniversary, and they were my family too... Why-" his voice cracked, he couldn't hold in his tears anymore.

You hushed his sobs, "it's ok Josh, it's ok to be upset. It's ok to not be ok Josh." You whisper to him, pressing a kiss to his forehead.

He looked up at you, his beautiful eyes looking from yours and then down to your lips before they flicker back up again.

You both lean a bit closer

"I don't know what I would do without you..." Josh whispered,

You smiled, and let him move in closer.

You both share a soft kiss, your fingers running over the small curly hairs at the base of his neck.

His phone buzzed again, but neither of you bothered to care; you just remained lost in each other, both in each other's world.

You both felt like you were made for each other...

You helped him, you cared for him, you loved him.

He needed your help, he want to take care of you, he was madly in love with you.

Attached to you.

You were going to help him, he was going to take care of you, you were going to help each other with everything and anything...

No matter what it was.

Josh walked back into the large living room, it was off for you to be sitting in the lodge again.

After staying with Josh in his home going back to the lodge for the anniversary of his sisters.

He sat on the large bouncy couch right next to you, putting his arm around your waist and pulling you towards him.

Now officially using the labels of 'partners' he was much more open to touching, and he wasn't going to cut down when the others came.

Josh has been talking about inviting the old friend group back, while it took some convincing on Josh's part but he had convinced you fully.

He was so smart.

After some small talk, cuddling, and a small make-out session. You pulled apart to greet the group that was currently freezing outside.

You talk with Sam and Ashley as Josh Left with Chirs, after a few minutes later Chris opened the front door and a small critter runs out shortly after making you jump before laughing.

You all start to go inside, Josh comes up behind you using his knuckles to lightly push into your sides making you squirm at the tingly feeling.

"The little critter scare ya, babe?" He laughs as he rushes to put his hands on you and pull you back so you couldn't run from his tickles.

But your moment was ruined, Mike and Jessica running in yelling about party people or something.

"So, uhh- you guys are like... A thing now?" Ashley asked as she looked to the others, they all looked confused.

Jess and Mike looked slightly confused as to what Ashley was talking about as they both thought it would be obvious they were, but when they followed Ashley and the group's eyes they landed on Josh.

"Together? Josh? Please, he's a hookup guy." Mike says, assuming they were asking if he was in a relationship.

Not noticing you had moved behind Josh, you didn't know them too well. But you don't think they would be so happy to see you after how you left off on a not-so-good note with those two and Emily, speaking of where was she?

"Actually, I've officially taken myself off the market. " josh says making Jess raise a brow.

"Oh yeah?"

"Up! In a happy relationship actually, if I knew it was this great I would've tied myself down sooner!" Josh jokes turning around placing a hand on the side of your head, brushing some of your hair with his thump, and smiling at you.

The rest of the group seemed split on how to feel. Some were happy for Josh! Happy to see him be better and to find someone who accepts him and doesn't judge him.

Some felt uncomfortable, thinking that even though he may seem alright. They don't think he should be in a relationship right now... Especially with someone who was there that night...

And a couple didn't like the idea at all, great. Not only does Josh most likely still pissed at them and now he is with Hanna's best friend who was most likely still pissed and now they were both gonna cause issues.

But you and Josh didn't bother or mind any of the others, he just took your hand and took you towards the fireplace and tried getting a fire going.

"Oh my God. That is so gross. Are you trying to swallow his face whole?" And there was Emily.

And then the fighting started and it got louder, more aggressive, and only got worse when Matt tried to step in and it clearly didn't work...

Josh was getting upset at the fighting as this is not how he wanted this night to go... But what really made him put his foot down was seeing you start to get anxious with the two girls.

He knew that look in your eyes, you always helped him. Now he was gonna start helping you.

"STOP IT! this is not why I asked you all back up here!"

Josh had shut down the fight and sent Jess and Mike to the guest cabin before turning back to you.

Holding you close like you always did to him, whispering reassurances as he kissed the top of your head.

It was gonna be a long night...
