nah midnight rain is definitely about her first boyfriend to me. the parallels to tis the damn season are too strong, and that song clearly takes place in Hendersonville (there is indeed a Methodist church next to her high school). also, the entire premise of the song is that it’s about the life she could’ve had if she hadn’t chosen to become famous. Joe jonas is famous lol.

also, can y’all believe there were people who legitimately believed dorothea was about selena? like y’all. can we please at least admit to ourselves that taylor herself was james, betty, dorothea, and augustine all along

that reading makes sense to me, but i definitely associated it with someone famous because she describes her world as a cage, filled with pageant queens, her boy's a montage of these beautiful moments, which pinged calvin to me. plus, the recurring theme that someone wanted to marry her and limit her ambition, which we know calvin did (by suggesting he'd never work with her, trying to cut her down, etc.)

however, i can see how that verse is a description of a high school. and idk if she'd say she broke up with calvin because he was "nice" - he feels more like the guy who couldn't prioritize her and couldn't bear to truly see her. so who knows! but good thoughts all around.

Le célèbre père de l’Église, Augustin d’Hippone, a écrit : « Qu’est-ce donc que le temps ? À condition que personne ne me le demande, je sais. Si je veux expliquer à un chercheur, je ne sais pas. »1 Il a fait cette observation après une longue discussion sur la nature du temps et de l’éternité. Même si sa discussion était plus abstraite que la question posée, la déclaration d’Augustin nous rappelle que le concept de temps est complexe. Pourtant, nous fonctionnons tous avec une compréhension assez simple des minutes, des heures, des jours, des semaines et des années.

Mais notre façon de compter le temps n’est pas la seule. La Bible a été écrite par des auteurs issus d’horizons divers, d’une époque et d’une culture très différentes de la nôtre. Certes, aucun de ces facteurs ne remet en cause la paternité divine globale des Écritures. D’un autre côté, reconnaître ces différences nous aide à comprendre ce que les auteurs voulaient dire – et ne voulaient pas dire – lorsqu’ils ont utilisé le langage courant pour enregistrer le moment où un événement s’est produit.

En fait, le Nouveau Testament souhaite que le lecteur comprenne qu’il documente des événements survenus dans l’histoire spatio-temporelle, telle que nous l’entendons au sens quotidien. Les marqueurs de temps abondent dans ses pages, depuis le moment où Jésus a rencontré ses disciples terrifiés sur la mer agitée (Marc 6 :48), jusqu'au moment où il a été crucifié (Matt. 27 :45), jusqu'à la durée pendant laquelle il est resté dans la tombe (Luc 9). :22 ; 24 :7 ; 1 Cor. 15 :4).

Comme l’indiquent les textes ci-dessus, les auteurs bibliques enseignaient que Jésus restait dans la tombe pendant trois jours. Les Évangiles nous disent qu'Il a été crucifié vendredi et est ressuscité du tombeau dimanche (Marc 15 : 42-47 ; 16 : 1 ; Matthieu 27 : 57-61 ; 28 : 1 ; Luc 23 : 50-56 ; 24 : 1). ; Jean 19 :38-42 ; 20 :1). Mais il semble y avoir une difficulté qui apparaît lorsque nous comparons ces récits de la crucifixion et de la résurrection de Jésus et les paroles de notre Seigneur dans Matthieu 12 :40 : « Car, de même que Jonas fut trois jours et trois nuits dans le ventre du grand poisson, de même le Fils de l’homme sera-t-il trois jours et trois nuits au sein de la terre. Les critiques prétendent que nous ne pouvons pas concilier les paroles de Jésus avec les récits évangéliques de sa mort, qui la situent à la « neuvième heure » (Marc 15 : 34), soit à 15 heures. en termes modernes. Si Jésus mourait à 15 heures vendredi et s’est levé tôt dimanche matin, comment pouvons-nous concilier ces faits avec la déclaration de Jésus dans Matthieu 12 :40 ? Les Écritures semblent ici incohérentes. Les sceptiques ont longtemps profité de cette apparente contradiction pour discréditer la doctrine de l’inerrance biblique.

Comme pour beaucoup d’autres soi-disant contradictions bibliques, un peu de réflexion et une certaine compréhension des différences culturelles nous aident à voir qu’il n’y a aucune incohérence.

La difficulté est apparente et non réelle. Revenant à notre discussion précédente sur la nature du temps, nous devons prendre du recul et reconnaître que les Juifs du premier siècle comptaient les jours différemment de nous aujourd’hui. Selon leur conception des jours, une partie d’une journée comptait pour une journée entière. Encore une fois, la plupart d’entre nous ne marquent pas le temps de cette façon. Si, par exemple, un article de journal décrit une certaine personne faisant quelque chose pendant trois jours, nous pensons immédiatement à trois journées de vingt-quatre heures.

Mais une fois que nous comprenons comment Jésus et la majorité du peuple juif autour de lui comprenaient les jours, l’apparente contradiction disparaît. Mort de Jésus à 15 heures. le Vendredi Saint comptait pour un jour, Sa mise au tombeau toute la journée du samedi comptait pour le deuxième jour et Sa résurrection le dimanche matin comptait pour le troisième jour. Par conséquent, la prophétie de Jésus dans Matthieu 12 : 40 et les faits de sa crucifixion, de son enterrement et de sa résurrection ne sont pas en contradiction, mais reflètent simplement la manière courante de comprendre les jours du premier siècle.

Comme pour beaucoup d’autres soi-disant contradictions bibliques, un peu de réflexion et une certaine compréhension des différences culturelles nous aident à voir qu’il n’y a aucune incohérence. On nous rappelle une fois de plus que la Bible est la vérité (Jean 17 : 17). Nous pouvons lui faire confiance. Les faits qu’il relate se sont réellement produits, même s’ils ont été détaillés d’une manière étrangère à notre sensibilité moderne.

La question la plus urgente est : « Croyons-nous à la Bible ? La recherche futile des critiques pour trouver des divergences bibliques comme celle évoquée ici révèle un cœur incrédule. Nous devons veiller à ce qu’un tel scepticisme ne caractérise pas nos propres cœurs. Au lieu de cela, « Retenons fermement la confession de notre espérance, car celui qui a promis est fidèle » (Hébreux 10 :23).

St. David. According to tradition, St. David was the son of King Sant of South Wales and St. Non. He was ordained a priest and later studied under St. Paulinus. Later, he was involved in missionary work and founded a number of monasteries. The monastery he founded at Menevia in Southwestern Wales was noted for extreme asceticism. David and his monks drank neither wine nor beer - only water - while putting in a full day of heavy manual labor and intense study. Around the year 550, David attended a synod at Brevi in Cardiganshire. His contributions at the synod are said to have been the major cause for his election as primate of the Cambrian Church. He was reportedly consecrated archbishop by the patriarch of Jerusalem while on a visit to the Holy Land. He also is said to have invoked a council that ended the last vestiges of Pelagianism. David died at his monastery in Menevia around the year 589, and his cult was approved in 1120 by Pope Callistus II. He is revered as the patron of Wales. Undoubtedly, St. David was endowed with substantial qualities of spiritual leadership. What is more, many monasteries flourished as a result of his leadership and good example. His staunch adherence to monastic piety bespeaks a fine example for modern Christians seeking order and form in their prayer life.

St. Marnock. Irish bishop, a disciple of St. Columba. He resided on Jona, Scotland, and is also called Marnan, Marnanus, or Marnoc. He died at Annandale and is revered on the Scottish border. His name was given to Kilmarnock, Scotland.

St Albinus, a monk and an abbot was elected Bishop of Angers by acclamation, despite his reluctance. One of the promoters of the Third Council of Orleans, he helped renew the Church by fighting against clerical laxity. St Albinus was known for his care of all those in need. Mar. 1
