headcanons about harry anderson no one cares about but like 5 people and i

i need to stress he is in my brain daily and i need to get some thoughts out please talk to me about harry anderson egbert guys please /silly

🧵 it's stated in "the insiders" that he has stage fright, but we are not given an explanation as to where it came from.

i like to imagine it's because he grew up with so many successful people in his family circle. not just because they are gods - but because they have talents that they are incredibly successful at. he's not as funny as his father, he's not as smart as his mother, he's not as savvy as rose, etc etc- and yet, he was brought into the spotlight from an early age nonetheless, having mentioned being in magazines and such. but he never talked, or said a word. meaning, he hasn't shown the world his potential at all yet... and he's terrified of doing so and disappointing them. his family, his friends, even strangers. it's a lot of pressure. and the more he lets it fester, the worse it gets.

🧵 he's in the theatre club but he's never properly acted/sang in front of anyone or participated in a play.

he's only been responsible for costumes. he really wants to participate - he rehearses for months on end before auditions - only to chicken out last minute.

🧵 he loves making other people shine more than shining himself.

we know he makes clothes. clothes are an art of self expression - and he loves dressing other people up so they can show their true potential. plus...it distracts him from his own failures.

🧵 he makes clothes for people that really need it, does a lot of charity work. the homeless, orphans, other school's plays, small local movies, etc.

he just loves to help out. he is genuinely a friendly person that cares and likes to keep himself busy.

this falls into the same category as the clothes thing, i think. he has a vanity table in his room. it's not hard to imagine him helping out with that too whenever he can.

🧵 he has officially been excused from holding presentations at school, much to his peer's dismay.

roxy knows his glossophobia (stage fright) is pretty damn bad, so she asked the school not to have him participate in things like that. people in turn think that he gets special treatment because of his god mom. overall he's not disliked though. i just think most people don't really know him, and tend to think of him as somewhat of a snob, if a friendly one. however his grades are only painfully average, partly because of this.

🧵 his relationship with his mom isn't perfect

now don't get me wrong, roxy is great, and they love each other very much. but i do think she has trouble talking about problems, and difficult things in general, and tends to keep things on the lighthearted side, which makes it hard to communicate issues with her. harry anderson would rather pretend he's got everything under control than bother his mom with 'frivilous problems'. ...one of such being kind of uncomfortable with aunt jane when he gets older. plus, he really doesn't want to disappoint her. he feels like he already is.

he can imitate any voice he wants to with perfect precision, including his mom's. makes calls to the house from school a lot easier. though she's pretty sneaky and finds out about this eventually lol

told him he's free to choose when he's older of course and roxy refused to do any surgery on him. he just kept going with it though. for one he doesn't truly care about gender but also it's the name his dad wanted him to have, and he misses him a lot.

omg... my first ask!!!! tysm anon, ur so sweet ^_^ these were all super cool classpects to possibly analyze!!

i chose to analyze the mage of breath because i havent analyzed its class OR aspect before!! not to mention i was already wanting to do an entry on mages sometime, and breath is such a fun aspect ^_^

mages

"mages are the active knowledge class, and are 'ones who are most aware of their aspect and its influence'. these players fully understand their aspect and how far its reach extends, because they have freely tested the bounds of their aspect through trial and error. adversely they are affected negatively by their aspect every step of the way as a price for their vast knowledge & ability. the mage's challenge is to overcome their aspect and become in control of it, acting on all their knowledge."

mages have grown with their aspect hand-in-hand, as one of the few classes who start out with the most knowledge on it. but because of this great connection, other elements in the mage's life are strained and difficult to reach. they are granted boundless knowledge of their aspect, but this can get the mage stuck on other problems.

but of course they still have their upsides! being well-versed in their aspect means the mage has come to terms with its consequences, and that can come in handy in times of need. as an active class, they have plenty of reach for using/helping with their aspect.

an example is sollux captor, mage of doom. he "knew doom/knew through doom", with doom representing decay, sacrifice, and inevitability. in his situation, doom represented sgrub, the game the trolls would play, but it would ultimately be fruitless with them not being able to go to their created universe. this means sgrub could be considered a great deal of doom! and sollux knew a lot about sgrub, and how to guide his friends to play it.

but in a more vast sense, sollux is aware that everything is doomed. his sgrub game, his friends, himself. but what he did wrong was not act against this knowledge, probably because of doom's seemingly strong sense of fate. sollux thought he couldn't do anything about it, and already having a long relationship with doom didnt really care to.

a more vague example is meulin leijon/the disciple, mage of heart. shes very active with her aspect, using her vast knowledge on the heart and romance especially to portray her friends in several pairings and fanfiction, exploring and projecting all that she knows about feelings in terms of the souls around her. albeit shipping real people isn't the best thing to do, meulin as a mage obviously just embraces her aspect, and sticks to what she knows. its not very known what effect this had on the alpha trolls' session, but it was either stunting or expanding on their session's heart, depending on how you view meulin's way of applying her knowledge.

the disciple was also a mage, and i believe her abilities and vast knowledge on the soul was used by her to actively help the signless, capture his feelings in text as much as she could.

breath

breath is an aspect representing wind, freedom, choice, and openness. breath players tend to be very flexible in almost any way! whether they're carefree, willing to be manipulated/follow, or detached and on their own path, this greatly reflects on breath players' sense of self and their ability to adapt.

john egbert is one of the best examples of a breath player. he was an heir of breath, inheriting breath and able to "provide it/provide through it". john was practically the most breath-embodying character in homestuck, being carefree and usually very easily bending to anyones will! this is shown through how he easily cooperated to vriska and was open with karkat, not paying mind to his insults or crabbiness.

especially with vriska! she was manipulating him at first, but overtime johns adaptability to vriskas intense personality let her open up to john, and because of his openness the two formed a strong mutual friendship. but later on in the session he started embodying more intense aspects of breath, such as a detachedness from the session and everyone else. overall, john is often maneuvering around from person to person throughout the session, while also being a very carefree and willing guy! ^_^ perfectly embodies both the positive & negative aspects of breath players.

tavros, page of breath, is a strong example in his own areas too! pages start out lacking in their aspect, with their challenge being to learn how to gain their full power, and thus full understanding and use over their aspect. tavros deeply wanted to become more self-confident and assertive, much like a breath player's standard qualities! but like more pages, he started out with more of the negative parts of his aspect, like how tavros easily bent to the will of vriska, being too flexible/cooperative.

rufioh, a rogue of breath, also has an interesting take on the aspect. he gathers breath for others, giving them the air to be carefree and open. this is shown by rufioh getting with horuss and letting him freely and often express himself in the relationship. but because rogues lack in supplying their aspect for themselves, rufioh struggled to be open about his negative feelings in their relationship and just let them fester. overall, he gave breath to others but not himself.

the mage of breath

now let's put these terms together! a mage of breath will have lived with all faces of breath for a long while. they're carefree, quickly adapting, and cooperative! but experiencing all aspects of breath includes the more stunting ones too, and with a mages intensity..

the mage of breath can be VERY hard to reach. at any sign, they'll pack up all their things in a matter of moments and leave even quicker, without a trace. they move from place to place, seemingly never being able to stay anywhere. this makes the mage naturally very distant, and even overly independent. they go their own path, but they stick to it at all costs no matter what! paired with their freedom, this can come off as carelessness to their allies...

mages are stubborn and can stick to the path of their aspect, but breath players are even more difficult to get off that path! the mage of breath's challenge is to learn when they need help and accept it, and that they don't have to do everything alone and/or distance themselves!

after beating their challenge, the mage of breath would be a super useful asset to their team, able to get around quickly and how they want. their open-mindedness and cooperativeness can then be used more freely, not to mention in a more positive breath-aspect way! ^_^

conclusion

OMG!!!!! that was actually such a huge word dump... but this classpect was sooso worth it, also im so happy with this entry tbh.... i hope you guys are too ^_^!!! lmk if youd like a classpect of your own analyzed, these are always such a treat to explore!

FTF: Cosmological Rabbit Hole

The side show where we look at a franchise to determine how big it's cosmology is and determine how powerful all of it's characters are. We'll determine who scales to what and demonstrate all the powers and abilities the characters of this verse have to offer.

This Week's Verse...

Homestuck!

Just a quick heads up, this entire post can be taken as an admission that I don't agree with any of the FTFs I've done on Homestuck anymore. I've since re-examined how I scale these characters and decided that the results of several of my previous FTFs (Cole MacGrath vs John Egbert and Gamzee vs Broly especially) were wrong. Here's are the news feats and scaling I'll be using for Homestuck going forward.

Power Scaling

Fodder

The weakest characters in the franchise who aren't just average real life humans and animals. These include:

The baseline imps: these guys are canon fodder that even early SBURB Players can defeat with ease, though their exact tiering varies quite wildly, they are at their absolute weakest wall level, as they are strong enough to break through solid walls and can survive hits from blows that do the same. At their strongest, they can be large building level via their sheer size, which their further prototyped selves should scale above.

Lusi: Various Lusi we see should scale as at least comparable to their Earth animal counterparts, which can vary wildly depending on the specific animal. This can grant attack potency as high as wall level for characters like Pounce De Leon. Significantly larger lusi, such as biclops and spidermom, can reach large building level through their sheer size alone. Imps Prototyped with these lusi should cross scale to them due to inheriting different parts of their biology, which further justifies them existing in the same tier.

Dubiously Canon: Hiveswap Trolls. Probably the easiest of the Dubiously Canon scaling to explain. Large chunks of the cast scale as superior to or at least comparable to, the MSPA Reader, who has several wall level feats, like fighting a bear. The strongest of these characters, such as Marvus, can even survive explosions that destroy limosuines and react to and jump in front of said explosions as they're going off, giving him and those comparable to him small building level durability and subsonic speeds.

Beta Roxy and Mr. Egbert should scale here, as they are shown defeating giant ogres and numerous imps with relative ease.

Low-Tier

These should mostly consist of the absolute weakest, non-God tier SBURB Players and those that scale as comparable to them, such as John and Karkat. Stronger Players, like Equius, Sollux, and Gamzee, will be covered later.

Every single SBURB Player is, as a baby, capable of surviving a trip to their home planet on a meteor. I calculated the impact force of one of these meteors, specifically Rose's, and got a result of 567.4 Tons of TNT, or Multi-City Block Level+

Gl'bgolyb should also reside in this tier, due to it's stated size putting it on this level

For speed, these characters are pretty consistently depicted as moving faster than the eye can track, as Dave is consistently able to use "flash stepping" to move faster than the naked eye csn perceive and create after images. According to a study done by MIT, this should scale as a Subsonic speed feat:

Who scales:

Naturally, every SBURB Player ever scales to this as they can all survive their meteor trips. As literal infants no less. Though, most notably, this should scale to most of the weaker Players who have no better feats or scaling to go off of, such as Pre-God Tier human players

The Felt should power scale here, as even their weakest members can compete with Karkat, who is consistently depicted as the physically weakest troll Player. This scales to the base forms of the Midnight Crew and Mr. Crocker by extension.

Of the SBURB trolls, the ones who have this as their best scaling/feats are as follows: Karkat, pre-Ghost Aradia, Tavros, Pre-Rainbow Drinker Kanaya, Nepeta, and Pre-God Tier Vriska.

The weakest sprites in the game, such as Nanasprite, should scale to this level as well, as they can be summoned to aid their Player in combat and wouldn't be much use otherwise.

Most Denizens should scale here, as all the Trolls, including Karkat, were capable of killing their Denizens.

Notes:

I feel it is no longer consistent to scale John to his "Windy Thing", which he used to put out the fire ravaging his land. For one, it's much higher than any other feat John or anyone comparable to him has ever performed and two, the fires that he put out were created by Bec, meaning he somehow deflected a Multiversal+ attack with a Large Mountain level storm. Needless to say, it's an outlier.

Mid Tiers

The mid-tiers should scale off of Sollux and Aradia throwing meteors during the fight against the Black King. Since these meteors have shown to get to sizes that rival continents (as seen by the one Bec destroys to protect Jade's island), I feel it is fair to scale Sollux and Co to the strongest meteors we've seen the Reckoning throw, as Sollux's telekinesis would've had to overpower their kinetic energy for him to throw them. This means Sollux should scale to 3 exatons of TNT, or Multi-Continent Level.

The Speed for this tier comes from the Psiioniic crossing "thousands of light years within the span of hours", a feat that, with the lowest possible estimate, is easily millions of time Faster Than Light. This scales to Sollux as he directly inherits as his powers from the Psiioniic.

Of the trolls, this should scale to Sollux, Aradiabot, Equius, Rainbow Drinker Kanaya, Aradiabot, God-Tier Vriska, Terezi, Feferi, and Eridan.

The Black King logically scales from being able to fight all twelve simultaneously. Beta Jack Noir, as another version of the Black King, should scale off of that while Bro Strider and Davesprite scale from there.

Andrew Hussie can fight Vriska, so he scales, while Cyborg Jack Noir scales off of that from being able to harm him.

Numerous Sprites, such as Fefpetasprite and ARquiusprite, go here via upscaling from their fused components.

Base Calliope and Caliborn go here for being able to hurt Gamzee.

Regular old adult Cherubs should go here as well, but they have their own feats. Adult Cherubs are noted to be able to destroy Solar Systems at will and can cross galaxies in seconds, making them much faster and stronger than anyone listed above. That said, they're also not strong enough to threaten the High Tiers and no one scales to them, so they just kinda go here.

Notes:

I initially scaled this level to Gamzee surviving inside the Black Hole Lord Jack created in Collide, but rewatching it... I don't think we get any canon confirmation on him surviving that. And even if he did survive it, it would likely be as a result of his immortality anyways, as opposed to his actual durability.

High Tiers

The scaling here comes from Doc Scratch's corpse being completely unscratched (ba-dum-tish) by two universes colliding into and exploding around him. These two universes are, in context, infinite multiverses, as they each contain an infinite number of timelines and possibilities, putting Scratch at Multiversal+.

For speed, we have numerous examples of characters moving at beyond finite speeds. For example, Rose Lalonde can move from the Core of the Green Sun to it's surface. The Green Sun is the size of several universes, or infinite multiverses as established aboved, meaning this is a substantial feat of infinite speed, as would be required to move infinite distances in a finite amount of time. Similarly, characters like Bec Noir can move in areas where time and space don't exist or otherwise behave differently, granting them Immeasurable speed.

This naturally scales to all of the First Guardians and those who fused with them, so Doc Scratch, Bec, Gcat, Bec Noir, Peregrine Mendicant, God-Tier Jade, and Gcatavrosprite.

This, by extension, scales to everyone comparable to the above, which woukd include Ancestral Awakening Vriska and basically every other God-Tier in the story.

Her Imperious Condescension and Lord Jack scale for being able to fight hordes of the above characters simultaneously.

Arenea with the Life Ring, The Handmaiden, and Davepetasprite scale here as well, as they can take beatings from HIC and contend with every other character on this general level.

Adult Cherubs go here too.... but only while Fucking. When they mate, they absorb all the energy of the universe and become completely invincible to all but another Cherub. If only Caliborn had known, the Multiversal Fuck could've been his.

Oh, and God Tier Calliope abd Caliborn go here too, as does their denizen, but that kinda goes without saying.

God-Tiers

Ironically, there are very few God-Tiers amongst the God-Tiers of this verse.

First of all, the Horrorterrors exist within a realm called the Furthest Ring, which "transcends time and space across every universe in existence". This makes the Ring a higher dimensional structure to the rest of the verse, infinitely transcending it. As such, the Horrorterrors are 5-Dimensional, or Low Complex Multiversal.

Lord English, meanwhile, transcends even that, transcending the narrative itself and effecting reality "on every layer of existence". This should make Lord English 6-Dimensional, or Low Complex Multiversal+

The only other characters who scale to LE are Hussie (only when using Plot Manipulation, he is physically much weaker), and the Legendary Heroes meant to defeat him. Namely John when empowered by the Treasure and the rest of the Beta Kids after being freed from the chest (though the ending makes this point vague).

Note:

Homestuck^2, Pesterquest, and the Epilogues do give Outerversal feats, but they are dubiously canon and I hate them, so they're getting ignored.

Hax

General

These are powers that everybody, and I do mean everybody, seems to have in Homestuck. First off, everyone does indeed seem to have a minor degree of 4th Wall Awareness and resistance to Plot Manipulation. Namely, they can react to and defy the actions chosen by the Reader, rejecting the names the Reader gives them, ignoring the commands they give, and refusing to let the Reader see from their perspective or take control of them in walk around segments.

Another common ability in Homestuck is the Sylladex, a video game hammerspace inventory that allows characters to store and carry items around on them that would otherwise be too heavy or large. The exact specifics of how these Sylladexes work depends on the specific user, mainly in regards to what part of their inventory they can access. The strongest Sylladexes can house celestial objects, including giant bombs the size of the moon.

Finally, there's the Echeladder, a video game style leveling system that quantifies a character's stats. Whenever that character does something that correlates to a stat, that stat increases by a variable amount. These stats can be increased, albiet gradually, just by doing literally anything, as even simple feats like opening a safe or lifting a hammer can increase them. Moreover, God-Tiers specifically unlock magical badges that allow them to break the metatextual rules of Homestuck itself with every level gained, allowing them to... talk to people. And pick things up with their hands. Yeah, they're redundant and useless, that's the joke. Moving on.

Trolls

Trolls can get access to a wide variety of powers depending on their exact placement on the Hemospectrum. The Hemospectrum is the hierarchy which troll society is based around, with rusts at the bottom and seadwellers at the top. Each caste has it's own perks, but it is consistent as a general rule that the higher up on the Hemospectrum you are, the stronger you are and the more resistance you have against psychic attacks. Of course, this is not a die hard rule and enough training can overcome this difference, such as with Aranea mind controlling Gamzee. Furthermore, trolls higher on the Hemospectrum live much longer than ordinary humans, with highbloods from blue on upwards living for several million years.

Rust bloods have (relatively) weak telekinesis and have the ability to see, communicate with, and summon ghosts. Bronze bloods can communicate with and control animals telepathically, while Jade bloods can come back from the dead as "Rainbow Drinkers", granting them an overworldly glow and immunity to the Alternian Sun's deadly heat. Gold bloods have vast telekinetic powers that allow them to shoot massive eye lasers and ragdoll people and objects with ease.

Highbloods are especially dangerous in that regard. Ceruleans can mind control up to thousands of other trolls at once, each of varying castes, while the purple bloods induce constant fear and nightmares in every single troll beneath them constantly with their powers in order to quell rebellion. This is on top of having advanced healing factors, that allow purples to regenerate from being shredded with lead. Seadwellers can breath indefinitely underwater and the highest caste of them all, Fuschias, have all the combined powers of all lower castes.

Sburb Players

Even outside of the game, SBURB Players are far superior to most every other example of their species. Even in timelines where the Players never even play the game themselves, they still have some ties to their Aspect, giving them vastly superhuman powers.

Aspects are the twelve primordial concepts that govern Homestuck's reality. Every SBURB Player is tied to one of these Aspects, granting them supernatural powers dependent on their Class, which determines how they interact with their Aspects. Aspects are a higher dimensional power source in nature, as they are physically entwined with the layout of the Furthest Ring, previously established to be 5 Dimensional. As such, SBURB Players can outperform other members of their species by leaps and bounds, empowered as they are by these Aspects. We see this in how much stronger Bro Strider, The Psiioniic, and the Handmaiden are compared to the rest of their species, and they've never even played SBURB.

Naturally, a SBURB Player who actually plays the game will reach much greater heights. Firstly, it'll give them access to Grist, a building material with which they can create and combine weapons for themselves. The specific traits of these weapons will naturally depending on the parts used to make them. Take for example, a hammer that freezes you in time, a pair of glothes that give you giant ghost hands to lift incredibly heavy weapons, and even just a cool rocketpack.

Secondly, it'll give them guidance on how to fully access the powers of their Aspect, something that is almost unheard of outside the game. This can allow them access to different superpowers depending on both their class and aspect. A Time player can stop time, rewind time, or time travel, as well as summon time clones of themselves, creating an army or themselves from across the timeline. A crafty Void Player could "steal Void" to create anything they can imagine, a Thief of Void could still all your good luck, or a Space Player could shrink you down to the size of an ant. The possibilities are virtually limitless depending on the class and Aspect, especially from all the combinations we've never seen.

Something especially notable about the time stop is that, when used by a God-Tier, it can freeze characters with immeasurable speed in place. Time Players have such a powerful mastery of time, that they can freeze people faster than time in time. Somehow.

God-Tiers are fairly powerful in general. They completely stop aging after they ascend and can only be killed if their death is either Heroic or Just. Meaning, only if they die while doing something heroic or selfish, or if they somehow deserved the death they got from a karmic perspective.

And just to put a point on it, God-Tiers can also summon little minions to assist them called...

Sprites

Sprites are the guides assigned to SBURB Players designed to aid them on their journey, assisting them in combat and giving them vague hints on how to proceed. Whike they have a nigh-omniscient understanding of the game's workings, SBURB itself refuses to let them not be cryptic about it, so they're hardly a cheat sheet.

They can, however, absorb anything they come in contact with for too long, willingly or otherwise. This can be anything from objects, to animals, to people or even First Guardians. Once "Prototyped", the Sprite absorbs all of the object's traits and abilities, with any animal or person's sentience getting absorbed to become the Sprite's guiding consciousness. This even works on people who are already dead. If two or more sentient beings are prototyped together, their minds fuse into one, becoming one being. If it's a human and an animal, then the human's mind would overwrite the animal's, only retaining a few deep seated instincts from the animal. This does, however, have a drawback. If two minds are too incompatible to be fused, then the sprite will explode violently.

Another thing to note is that every imp also gets this prototype, giving them a fraction of the power that the Sprite gains. Furthermore, the rulers of Prospit and Derse (or anyone agent of such who happens to be wearing their rings at any rate) will also be Prototyped in full, granting them potentially God-like power.

First Guardians

First Guardians are the designated protectors of the planet that the SBURB Players will eventually be born on, there to ensure the Players are in position to play the game and create the new universe. To this end, they are powered by the Green Sun, a higher dimensional star the size of several universes, though each Guardian only uses a fraction of its power compared to its full output.

This grants the Guardian a variety of godly superpowers, mainly nigh-omniscience across all timelines within their own universe. In this way, the First Guardian is almost guaranteed to be an unbeatable chess master within their own realm, but they are restricted by the Void Aspect. Due to being the concept of nothingness and secrecy, the Void aspect blocks out their omniscience.

Regardless, First Guardians are still known to be utterly god-like in every way shape and form. They have a variety of reality warping powers, as they can freely teleport across the universe at will, can manipulate and interact with individual atoms, and are highly radioactive in nature. One Guardian, Doc Scratch, showcased the ability to curse people with immortality, of a kind that only breaks under highly specfic conditions, and can make people fall asleep at will. It's even been shown that a First Guardian can resist and override Time Stop from God-Tiers.

Lord English and the Treasure

Lord English is the Lord of Time and stands as its unquestioned master. He can freely manipulate time or attack across it in any way you can imagine. His goal is to destroy all of reality and he has the raw power to do it.

This is because he is the Supreme Villain of the story, the Ultimate Evil of Paradox Space, to whom time, fate, and causality bow. His very existence is served and aided by these forces and he possesses such absolutely control over them that they passively aid him at every opportunity.

What I mean by this is that causality, probability, fate, and even the plot itself will make it so that everything that happens, everywhere, will serve Lord English in some way. It doesn't matter why it happens and it doesn't matter when or where. A young boy getting a plush bunny for his birthday in a completely different universe long before Lord English was even born will somehow serve him in some vital way. Because the plot demands it.

Even the Horrorterrors, whose very thoughts corrupts people into unstoppable, lovecraftian monsters and who live in a realm where time and space aren't linear, are helpless against this effect. It effects everwhere and everywhen, even retroactively. You never defeated Lord English. You could never even try. He is already here and he has already won.

Even the author himself was helpless against this power, his every attempt to defeat his creation was simply overriden.

The only way to defeat such a being is to completely remove yourself from the forces he controls. Transcend time, Transcend fate, reach outside the plot. The only way to beat Lord English is to become "unstuck" from Homestuck.

The Treasure, a mystical artifact that served as a glitch in reality itself, was capable of exactly that. After absorbing the Treasure, John Egbert was completely freed from the laws of Homestuck. He could go wherever he wanted and change everything.

So, he did. Seeing how John no longer had to worry about things like "causality" or "time paradoxes", he could simply go back and undo every victory LE had taken for granted, Retcon away every single death his friends experienced. John was as free as the wind, "unstuck" totally and completely.

With this devastating power, John became strong enough to simply blow away glitches that threatened to consume reality with just his wind alone, as well as freely alter universal constants. He can freely will himself anywhere in reality, even into fictional stories and travel outside of canon itself. Places that don't exist or were erased so thoroughly they never existed? No problem. He can just think and he's there. He can make it so that reality must rewrite itself to his very will and can make things fated to happen not happen just by saying "no".

This is what the Treasure is, a power Unstuck from Homestuck itself.

Im reading kill your ego right now and ill admit im a bit biased because John and Roxy are my favorites of all the human kids but I just have to know your thoughts on John Lalonde!!

my DARLING little dark academia boyo. it's especially fun thinking about him at the moment because i'm in the middle of a homestuck reread with some friends and it's really reminding me of all the similarities between john and rose in the early acts. the way they both misrepresent and resent their parents for the interests they share (or don't share) and the way they try and avoid their dumb lame parents and all their lovey dovey shit

so it's fun taking john and giving something really to complain about and avoid. we take away the self-loathing and (psychotic) depression/chucklevoodoo influence that the egberts are cursed with and we replace it with a superiority complex and a whole lot of pretentiousness. john lalonde is an incredibly proud academic and scholar and you WILL know that he's an intellectual if it's the LAST THING HE DOES!!!

now, john's main problem with mom, as we'll see later in the fic, isn't that he thinks she's being passive aggressive with him, because i think that is honestly a very rose-specific result of her capacity to overthink. he's just honestly disappointed with her. as with all of the lalondes, john goes through the parentification that mom lowkey pushes all of her kids through by neglecting them emotionally, and he takes it pretty hard. he's overwhelmed by the endless attention, he's walking on tiptoes because he never knows when some new ridiculous thing is going to happen, and he can't even get space because who KNOWS what will happen to her and the house if he tries to stay away for an entire week???? and because he's so combative, he's incredibly loud and open about how it's affecting him. he is ready to trauma dump within a moment's notice about his mom's alcoholism, his mom's love bombing, his mom's flaws in general

though of course, he doesnt have any, no, he's perfect 🥰 HE does everything right its just everyone else thats wrong!!! and that's another point of conflict between him and everyone. his mom is into science and fantasy and literature, sure, but not the RIGHT kinds, because john's into the right kind and everyone should be into sci fi like he is, duh. both he and rose actually dabble in different types of reading and writing in this verse, but clearly HE'S the literary genius since HE reads all the good smart books while she reads a whole lot of dumb books that only horny nerd girls like 🙄 and he clearly sees jade and dave as on a lower level to him and takes every chance he can to try and 'assist' them because they're too dumb and naive to take care of themselves. lucky them, though, because they actually get to be kids, and he wants to protect their innocence just as much as he wants to protect his own status and reputation

so! at the end of the day, he's pretty much a rich boy who had to grow up too fast and is incredibly bitter of that fact, but he won't let that bitterness get in the way of all the interests and people he's so incredibly passionate about. i think john egbert is kinda aimless in a lot of ways (like we don't even really know what he wants to do when he grows up) and while i don't think john lalonde has decided a career just yet, he's someone who is constantly working on some sort of creative project for himself and can easily imagine himself in quite a few different paths for life. i think he's full of love and the capacity for empathy but struggles to access it as he drowns in his frustration over the life he feels trapped in. he's incredibly sensitive which is why we see him flying off the handle so often because he's got such a delicate little ego that feels threatened so often (god does johnny have npd i think he does rip)

and i think he dearly dearly dearly loves his mother as every lalonde child does (not that he openly shows it, which of course he's going to regret with EVERYTHING he has) and he will utterly be in PIECES when she dies. he's a mama's boy through and through but he doesn't want to come across as one, he wants people to see him as a respectable and independent bachelor but he doesn't want to show weakness either. he wants to be a leader (because his mom is a leader!!) but honestly he's still the pushover we know and love and he's constantly at the whims of his mother, especially physically, because he's such a cute lil proper boy haha i always imagine him with like cute styled hair and stiff lil preppy outfits and thin wiry glasses (if he even wears glasses, i love the thought of him getting pushed into either wearing contacts or fully just already having some bonkers corrective surgery done on him already)

and hes SUCH A CUTIEEEEEEEE I CANT WAIT TO SHOW HIM OFF MORE WHEEEEEEE
