When it got your turn, the golden question popped up.

Truth: Describe your crush

You look up at Gerard with a teasing smile.

“Well. My crush is a person you know well. He’s with me almost everyday.”

Gerard grinned, pulling you onto his lap.

“Oh really?”

You nodded.

“He has the most beautiful smile. And he used to be in a band too!”

Gerard raised his eyebrows, making the both of you chuckle.

“He does sound like a pretty cool guy.“

“That’s because he is! And not just pretty cool, he’s very cool. Remember that.”

You brushed his bangs away to reveal the scar on his left eye. Tracing the red skin with the tip of your fingers.

“Don’t you think your lucky guy would be jealous if he finds out that you’re sitting on my lap right now?”

You smiled, inching your face closer to him.

“You know what, I don’t think he minds at all.”

With that, he connected his lip to yours. The both of you feeling the smile tugging on each of your lips as you embraced each other in the dim lights of his room.

The two of you were walking down the street together playing some dumb game.

Catch the shadow basically. But if you catch the other person’s shadow, you can ask them one question. And if they cannot answer, they have to buy the two of you ice cream.

Clicking your tongue, you gave up and turned to him.

“Alright, spill it.”

You looked at him incredulously. This grown dude was giggling and wiggling his brows like he’s some elementary school kid who heard the word underwear for the first time.

“Seriously? Fine. I’ll describe him to you. This person, goes to Eunjang. And you know him.”

“Ooh. Interesting-“

“Shh. I’m not done. So, this person. He’s.. strong. Like super strong, like you wouldn’t even believe it strong. He’s like a superhero. He has a nice smile and has a surprisingly connoisseur palate. He also has the most beautiful sun-kissed skin I have ever seen.”

Ben is now looking at you with intent, a slightly nervous gulp could be seen from where you stand.

“I like his- no I love how he’s always there for his friends. And the fact that he is liked by everyone gives me a warm feeling in my chest. He also has a child-like wonder to his eyes that I want to protect forever-”

Feeling a heavy hand drop on your shoulder, you stopped your current rambling to see a frowning Ben at your side.

“Wait- Uh not to be a narcissist, but the way you’re explaining about this guy makes it sound like you’re literally describing me?”

Oh how you wanted to punch him lovingly in the face.

“It is you.”

“IT IS?!”

He thought the two of you had something together!

Alex had overheard the girls talking at your part-time job about your supposed “crush”.

How had he not realise it sooner! Figures he was just another ‘great’ friend of yours.

“Hey, Alex!”

You had just finished your shift and headed straight to his gym with two cups of coffee in your hands.

Setting them down, you took your backpack off and tossed them over on the corner.

“I brought you some coffee.”

Your smile melts his heart a little bit. But then he remembers that you already have a pretty little “crush”. So, he just turned his head and murmured

“Why didn’t you just give it to your crush? I’m sure HE would appreciate it.”

You turned to him, baffled.

But, honestly a sulky Alex is kind of amusing to see, so a small laughter cracked out of you.

“Where did you heard that from?”

“Oh it doesn’t matter. Good for you though, I’m sure he’s such a great guy.”

You hummed to yourself.

“Yeah, he kinda is actually.”

Alex let out a choked sound when he whipped his head to face you with the most ‘I thought what we had was special’ expression, that for a second there you were genuinely worried that he was gonna start crying.

“Alex-”

“No, I mean it. I’m sure you’d pick someone worthy enough, so let’s hear it. What’s so great about this guy?”

He just can’t figure it out can he.

You sighed.

“To name a few, he’s the sweetest person I know. He has a big dream, and he’s a hardworking person. I love his eyes, his smile, and his cute little red nose.”

“Huh? What do you- OW!”

Alex’s eyes widened when you came to pinch the bridge of his nose hard.

Ah.. that’s definitely gonna be red- eh?

And only then he realised. Darting his eyes up at you as you look down onto him with a satisfied smile on your face.

“Figured it out yet?”

Face hot and burning now, remembering just how ridiculous he had acted.

It was in fact, not nothing. The truth is that you have been compiling pictures of both you and Jake to keep as a substitute. It looks a lot like you guys are dating from those pics, and you like looking at them to cheer yourself up during the bad days. Not that anyone has to know.

“Ooh~ Is it a new guy? Do I know him?”

“Tsk. Mind your own business.”

“Aww come on, we’re friends aren’t we? Besides I gotta make sure he’s good for you! Call it a guy’s instinct~”

“I met him 3 years ago. He never really noticed me, he was one of the cool kids. All the girls liked him so it wasn’t really a surprise that I joined in. Eventually he came up to talk to me and we became friends, and he’s such a sweetheart but he’s just so oblivious that it’s making me go crazy!”

Jake looked at you with an unreadable expression on his face. Your heart thumped with anticipation.

“Damn.. that must be hard. But if it’s you, I’m sure it will work out!”

You felt your heart sink as he tapped you on your shoulder, mouthing a ‘good luck’ before leaving the classroom.

It is what it is you guess.

Meanwhile in Jake’s mind:

This scenario with Donald would be super straightforward.

It would be completely out of the blue as well.

He was doing some paperworks in his office when you suddenly barged in.

“Donald, I would like to inform you about my crush.”

If he likes you a lot, (which he probably does if he lets you just barge into his office unannounced) he will put down everything aside and give you all of his attention.

“Go ahead then.”

It’s honestly comical how concerned you are about such an innocuous thing.

“I don’t know when it started, but it’s been getting worse. Initially I thought that I might’ve contacted some kind of disease and went to the nearby clinic but they hadn’t found anything wrong with me. So then I went to work as usual, where I then meet you! A-and my heart did this weird jumping thing!”

“So, you’re basically saying that you have a crush.. on me?”

The way you look genuinely exasperated, running a hand through your hair had Donald trying to suppress a grin.

“I have come to that conclusion. That, yes. I’m afraid so.”

“You know you don’t have to be embarrassed about it, right? It’s completely normal to get nervous when you see an attractive man.”

“Do you find yourself attractive?”

“I mean not necessarily, but clearly you do.”

You groaned and sat yourself down on one of the armchairs Donald keep in his office, clearly in distress at this newfound feeling you just discovered.

Donald then stood up from his seat and walked over to kneel himself in front of you.

“Now let me tell you about my crush.”

The Orange Peel Test

This is the result of scrolling through tiktok and coming across a few "orange peel test" videos. Which then made me begin to wonder how some of the characters would react in these situations. Would they pass the test or fail miserably?

Donald-

If you're with Donald it's because he chose to have you in his life. He has no room or time for anything that's not to be taken seriously, and he obviously does his homework on any venture that he invests himself into. Which, in this case, would result in already knowing the kind of person that you are and what you like and don't like. So much so, that you wouldn't have to request such small favors as peeling an orange from him. Most days, he would have a tray set on the tabletop with an already peeled orange, split nicely into slices, ready for you when you get home. It will be the same concept with him filling up items you are low on, such as your favorite granola or shampoo, to the point that you can't even remember the last time you actually bought more yourself. Now he probably won't ever leave you little notes in the way that his mom did to him as a child, because he would hold that memory too close to his soul to share or give out with anyone else, including you, but he would 100% leave encouraging and love filled notes to his own children if you both ever decide to have any.

Jimmy-

Jimmy would give an immediate little sneer if you asked him to peel your orange. Which would be quickly followed up with him just snatching it out of your hand, and complaining a bit about having to do it, while still actually doing it for you. He would also eat half of it himself as he splits the orange apart slice by slice. His reasoning of course would be that he did the "hard" work, so why shouldn't he have some of the reward? The other half of the orange he would stuff into your mouth mindlessly and not too gently, in a very one slice for him- one slice for you, two slices for him- one for you, etc. Once the orange is all done, he will get up to grab another one, and repeat the process all over again. This will continue until you finally tell him that you're full and don't need any more orange slices.

Wolf-

You can't force Wolf to do anything that he doesn't want to do.(Unless you're Donald haha). So really it's a 50/50 chance for it to go your way if you were to ask him. But luckily for you, the one thing about Wolf that is very much in your favor, is that when he's in one of his more giving moods he doesn't hold himself back from treating those close to him. Such as when he takes out his crew for a whole "order whatever you want" type of feast. So the chances of him peeling your orange is pretty high, even with his volatile nature. Just don't ask him in a cutesy voice or by giving him some sad puppy dog eyes. That shit will end up annoying the hell out of him, and you'll end up watching him as he walks away from you, with nothing to keep you company but that sad unpeeled orange you're still holding in your hand.

Jake-

Now you know damn well that Jake would 100% peel that orange for you. Heck, he would even do it with a big smile on his face. He is one of the most openly family and friend oriented person within the Yeongdeungpo union. So he would not only peel an orange for you, but he would also be the kind of guy who would wake up early in the mornings to warm up the car for you. Just to make sure that the windows aren't frosted over and to have the inside of the car nice and toasty. Making it easier for you to just take off in the mornings to wherever you need to go. AND he would do this unprompted and solely because he wants to and because he's able to.

Forrest-

Most people know Forrest as someone who's a complete asshole. Always trying to prove that he deserves the spot he inherited from Myles as Hyeongshin's school head. And truthfully he has the fist to back it up against most adversaries, so most people just try to stay out of his way. But you're one of the lucky few who has gotten to see a different side of him. Where he has been incredibly thoughtful to those close to him, and how he's even taken into consideration his subordinate's discomfort when making his moves within the Unions dealings. So it should come as no surprise to you that Forrest would have no issues with peeling you an orange. Chances are you wouldn't even need to verbally ask the question. All you would have to do is hold out an orange to him with a pleading look on your face. That alone will have him taking the orange from your outstretched hand, followed by him patiently peeling the rind away from it. Then handing it wordlessly back to you once it's peeled, and leaving to throw away all the discarded peels before you even have the chance to say thank you.

Colton-

Now you all know Colton would be a complete and total simp for whoever he's in a relationship with. And he would be SO ready to peel any oranges for you. And not just oranges either. He'll peel you some bananas or some apples. This guy will even go as far as peeling/cracking your pistachios for you! And in my opinion that's even better than peeling an orange.

Thoughts on Weak Hero's Ending

Weak Hero ended a few weeks ago, and I took some time to process the ending after I read it. Overall, I think it was a great ending to such a wonderfully written series.

I like how things were mostly wrapped up, but left as an open ending. I appreciate how the Union, although mostly defunct, is being kept somewhat alive by Kingsley, who can't accept that Donald is truly gone and that the Union is over. I might write a more detailed Kingsley analysis, but it's interesting how Kingsley, as Donald's right hand man, never fully understood Donald. He placed him on a pedestal and deified him. He did care about him, the most out of everyone, but it is still sad how he got so caught up in making Donald king that he failed to recognise how Donald's rapid ascension and ceaseless violence was a cry for help.

Jake being the one to recognise Donald's true feelings is rather apt. I haven't thought much about his character (as is not fully analysed) but I think he's much more complex than he lets on. He's in a similar situation to both Ben and Donald I think, that being both Ben and Jake are the leaders of their schools, they just want to hang out with their friends and have fun, both shoulder the burden of being the strongest of their schools alone... It's just that Jake has a darkness within him that led him to join the Union. He has an inner bloodlust, one that he recognises in Gray. Jake is very perceptive of others emotional state, so it's no wonder he could correctly guess how Donald was feeling, given that he's one of Donald's most reliable officers.

I'll have to update my Donald analysis soon, because of the revelation that Donald willingly put himself in danger, running in the road screaming for Gray to fight him again. I think on one hand, Donald wanted that connection he felt with Gray again, as well as desiring gray to defeat him. But also I think he felt like death was the only escape left, hence the panel where he had a resigned and accepting expression as the truck neared him. As if he was waiting for his end.

I'm sure the Union will dissolve soon despite Kingsley's efforts. Wolf and Jake have left, and maybe Forrest and Jimmy too. I also like how Jimmy's character arc closed off, with him admitting that all he wanted was to be acknowledged by Donald.

Now then, let's go over to the Eunjang kids!

Although they lost the fight, they won the war. Losing meant they didn't have to bear the burden of being the strongest. Though they may face some fights in the future due to the resulting power gap left in Donald's wake. But that's a story for another time.

Eugene woke up and is happy and well! I really love how despite Eugene thinking he didn't contribute much to the fight, all his friends comforted him and reassured him of his major role thanks to his light controlling device! Yay Eugene appreciation!

Unfortunately Gray was deeply affected by Donald's death and entered a spiral of self guilt... the scene with his reflection mocking him hurt to read. Thankfully his friends were by his side to ground him. Gray really does have a kind heart after all.

Finally, Stephen and Gray meet again! I like the reintroduction of Jeremy, and that he remains a good friend of Gray by telling him Stephen is okay! His reactions to Gray being the White Mamba was so funny to read. I can't express how happy I was to see that not only was Stephen still alive, also that he's all better and working part time at a cafe! Gray's monologue at the end was so touching, and im glad he was able to greet his most treasured friend with a big smile.

I really wanted a Stephen and gray epilogue where they interact, but I do like the happy open ending. I think Stephen would be so happy for Gray and he'd fit right in with the eunjang kids! I guess that's what fan fiction is for lol. (sorry for the lack of weaktober writing... ill try to write something.)

I kinda wish some side characters had more cameos, like Toby, Lily and Julia, but their arcs were wrapped up relatively well too.

That sums up my overall thoughts on Weak Hero's conclusion!

Winning an award was more or less nothing short of an average Tuesday for Donald.

He walked over to the podium but almost stopped in his tracks when another name was called out.

“This year, we have two gold medalist due to both participants achieving the same perfect score.”

You walked over to the podium with confident steps, a bright smile plastered on your face.

Donald hadn’t realized that he had actually stopped in his tracks when you glanced back at him from the top of the podium.

Exchanging glances with the teacher in front of you, you gestured for him to come up.

One awkward moment later, the two of you received your awards. Donald not taking his eyes off of you for longer than he has to bow.

“Hey.”

You turned towards him, clutching the award tight in your hand.

“Next time, only one of us will receive the award.”

“Well, if it’s not me it’s you right?”

As you left the school grounds, Donald smiled to himself. He might just found a new playmate.

Ben who saw the ad while walking back home was safe to say intrigued.

He would take Alex or Gerard to accompany him there.

He finished the entire pizza in one bite, 20 seconds no problem. Impressing everyone in the booth, including you.

“That was amazing! Did you like the pizza?”

Now here’s where he gets.. distracted. He just kind of gasped when you came up to him and loses his train of thoughts for a second.

“Pretty.. GOOD! P-pretty good! I like the pizza pretty good. Yea.. it was- uh it was good.”

Alex and Gerard are probably teasing him all the way back from your school. But it doesn’t matter though, since he gets to have your number (you were the person in charge of that booth).

You guys are reading manga together in the empty school library after school.

Well you guys promised to do your homework but Jake got distracted while going through the racks of journals he should have been looking at. Instead he checked out the manga racks that just got stocked up.

So that’s how you ended up ditching your school works.

While you were getting to the interesting bit of the chapter you were reading, you let out a small giggle of excitement. Tucking a strand of your hair behind your ears to see the words more clearly.

Through the corner of his eyes, Jake’s eyes darted towards you. Not forgetting to cover half of his face with the manga tho.

He never noticed that you looked so.. cute?

He failed to notice that he has been staring at you, when you finally looked up at him, still chuckling from the passage you read.

“Huh? Why are you looking at me?”

I feel like he would probably dodge the question and make a joke out of the whole situation.

“Ah? Oh. I was just wondering what was so funny! HAHA!”

That was what he said.

You guys are hanging out at his house, him playing a guitar lazily while you play with your phone on his bed.

Throughout your relationship you guys have developed a comfort in just being in each other’s presence. Sharing the silence when no words are needed.

As he plays a tune, you bobbed your head along. He watched you with a bit of an amusement, matching your tapping feet to his guitar strum.

Eventually, he let out a small chuckle which makes you shift your gaze from your phone towards him.

You gave him a suspicious narrowed eyes which made both him and you chuckle even more.

“What are you scheming?”

Gerard is one of the most chill dude out there. He will probably be quite suave about it.

“Nothing- Sorry babe, I’m usually good at that.”

Your voice brought his attention back to your eyes where your brows had scrunched a bit and you were leaning more towards the table, exposing a bit of skin.

“Sorry, noona. I was just thinking about something.”

Ah yes, the certified tsundere.

While walking home from school, you, Teddy and, Rowan came across a stray cat on top of a chair.

The thing is, it was sitting on the chair—like a human. (this is something I have seen with my own two eyes)

You found that interesting as hell so you took out your phone and started to snap a few pics.

The cat seems to take an interest in you and leaned it’s body forward. Pawing at your hand.

“Aww. Look at you, you’re so adorable!”

Entranced by the cat’s cute antics, Rowan would try to pet the feline without prior knowledge whatsoever on handling one.

Dude literally would smack his hand on the poor thing’s face.

Teddy grimaced. While you immediately take the cat into your arms before Rowan could seriously injure it.

“Why the hell are you so rough with him?! Are you a kid? Hmm it was uncomfortable wasn’t it, kitten? Yes it is? Bad Rowan bad!”

Giggling as you pretend to let the kitten hit Rowan, you scratched the bottom of the cat’s chin.

Teddy watched the way you handled the small kitten with such gentleness. Boy was whipped instantly.

I bet his type is definitely someone who cares a lot about animals.

Noticing his gaze on you, you turned. Scheming for a way to tease him. (he seems fun to tease ngl)

“Hm? Kitty, look at Teddy-oppa. He’s staring at youu~”

Man choked on his spit :)

“O-oppa?! Where did you even- Ugh. Forget it. And for your information I wasn’t staring at you! I was just spacing out goddammit!”

“But Teddy, she never said you were staring at her.”

jimmy bae / bae jihoon

Jimmy is a very prideful individual, so don’t expect much from him. (or can you?)

To be honest you can kind of see this coming.

Jimmy had to service his broken phone’s lcd, Jack needed to pick up some toiletries, and you wanted to check out your favourite bakery’s new release menus.

It was mutual interest that got all three of you going to the same mall. So you went there together after school.

The three of you had an argument on where to go first as you all think that your stuff is the most important.

You argued that the bakery usually has a long line and you don’t want to miss out after coming so far for it.

Jack was cool with everything, but Jimmy is Jimmy.

Eventually, you decided to part ways after deciding that it’s pointless to waste your breath arguing with the personification of pride.

And just as you thought, there was a long long line in front of the bakery already. There’s just no way you’re gonna get those cakes now.

Begrudgingly you went back to find the boys when Jimmy showed up in front of you with a white paper bag.

“Didn’t I tell you to stop worrying already? Just follow my instructions and shit will work out for you.”

It was the bakery’s newest menus. Each and every single one of their newest flavours.

“You- You.. where did you get these..?”

He preordered those cakes for you babe. (bet you didn’t expect that!)

“Look, do you want it or not?”

Taking the paper bag from his hand, you hugged them to your chest as you squealed happily.

And Jimmy, he tried his best to suppress the smile that’s curling on his lips at the thought that he was the one making you that happy. (well it was the cakes but whatever he was the one that got them)

Well, once you face him back, that smile is gone. Replaced with a scowl instead.

“Alright shut your yapping. Let’s go find Jack.”

Chief Mourners: Why did Seokhyeon, Hakho, and Jihoon wear yellow armbands during the funeral service?

SPOILER ALERT

DISCLAIMER: I'm not Korean, just learning about their culture.

The yellow armbands around Jihoon (Jimmy), Hakho (Jake) and Seokhyeon (Kingsley)'s arms were the sign that they were the chief mourners of Baekjin (Donald)'s funeral. It means that these three were the substitutes for Baekjin's family in preparing the funeral from start to finish. Theirs was the role that his absent stepfather and/or kin were supposed to carry out.

I'll try to explain to you about their responsibilities. After reading this, hopefully you'll understand why they crumbled and seemingly grew up so fast.

Seokhyeon, Hakho, and Jihoon's responsibilities as chief mourners:

NOTES:

They didn't do it simultaneously since usually there's an agreed upon division of labor among chief mourners of a funeral;

For nos. 3, 5, 6, 7 & 18, since Baekjin, Seokhyeon, Hakho and Jihoon were minors, then per Korean laws the bank accounts that they and the Union used were under their parents' names, and the legal representative was hired under their parents' names too.

Choosing and preparing Baekjin's photograph to be displayed at the funeral hall;

Sending an obituary and/or a death notification to Baekjin's school and to the Union members/related people as soon as his time of death was established;

Hiring a legal representative to be present when Baekjin's personal effects were released before his autopsy started. Since Baekjin had no immediate family and his death was from non-natural causes where autopsy is a must according to their laws.

Being on standby to receive Baekjin's personal effects from said legal representative. Note that this must've been very VERY upsetting to them since these were the things that Baekjin wore on the night of the accident. Just imagine.

Ensuring that the legal representative from no. 3 was present to receive the autopsy reports and photos on behalf of them, usually 3 days - 1 week after the autopsy was performed. The autopsy report for an accident usually look like this:

6. Calculating and paying the expenses to register for funeral, cremation and charnel house (mausoleum) services;

7. Ensuring that everything is taken care of by the funeral & cremation services from there on, including:

The issuance of Baekjin's death certificate (it usually looks like this);

The renting of mourning clothes. These clothes usually look like this (basically what we see in the funeral episodes):

The availability of a funeral hall (complete with condolence money box, incense, floral arrangements etc). The hall is usually located at the basement of the hospital where Baekjin was taken to after the accident, and arranged by the hospital's funeral services that Seokhyeon/Hakho/Jihoon hired;

The availabillity of foods and chrysanthemum flowers provided for mourners during a 3-day funeral service, because Baekjin had no female kin who oversaw this. Note that there are usually several types of foods that MUST be served in a day on tables, like this (usually the minimum is 3 menus):

The availability of a crematorium and a fixed cremation schedule;

The allotment of a charnel house (mausoleum) space for Baekjin's urn and photos, and maybe some personal belongings. Note that for Baekjin to be placed next to his mother, either Seokhyeon, Hakho or Jihoon had to notify the funeral services person(s) in charge who then notified the mausoleum in advance. Later, the persons in charge forwarded their payment of the space to the mausoleum. (EDIT: Or they registered it by themselves and paid directly to the mausoleum).

8. Spending 2 nights and 3 days in that funeral hall for a 3-day funeral service, in the same mourning clothes (if personal bellongings, these were usually later burned or shelved, never worn twice). Note that there's usually no comfortable sleeping arrangement in funeral halls, so they must've slept on the floor on hard pillows and thin blankets for 2 nights;

9. Greeting and welcoming all the mourners during the three 3-day funeral service and ensuring that they signed the guestbook. Note that mourners usually come after school/work hours from 6-11 p.m so Seokhyeon, Hakho, and Jihoon had to finish showering, eating, etc before those hours;

10. Receiving and storing the condolence money. The condolence money is usually placed in envelopes like these:

11. Arranging with the funeral services to ensure that there was food and drink for these mourners (since Baekjin had no female immediate family);

12. Receiving any standing wreaths from organizations that are connected. Note that standing wreaths in Korean funerals usually only come from organizations and not individuals, so probably if there was one, it would only be from Yeoil High since all of Baekjin's other contacts were made in an illegal business setting. Standing wreaths usually look like this;

13. Going to the crematorium and attending the cremation process along with select mourners;

14. Receiving Baekjin's ashes in a container (usually an urn purchased through the funeral services);

15. Going to the mausoleum and attending the placement of Baekjin's urn, photos and select belongings in the mausoleum/charnel house;

16. Thanking other mourners properly on behalf of Baekjin's family.

17. Counting the condolence money and deciding what to do with it afterwards other than covering the funeral costs.

18. Paying off Baekjin's personal debts and The Union's (if there was any), and dividing the remaining money and assets (probably needing to hire a legal representative again).

Honestly learning about all of this made me sympathize with Jihoon, Seokhyeon and Hakho more. I sadly realized that in a better time and a better place these three might have been real friends to Baekjin. It's not too late for the three of them yet.

Jimmy Bae, the Ride or Die

One of the most underrated aspects of Jimmy is just how consistent his characterization is when it comes to being a total ride or die for his friends. Like, it's not really super obvious until we see his backstory, where he drops everything to run to rescue Jack, but the fact that Jimmy would rather abandon his pride than a friend in need, has always been there, even from the very beginning.

The thing is that Jimmy has so few actual friendships, that this mostly just shows as him being condescending to the kids he bullies. In Episode 12, at the pool hall, Jimmy comments on the Eunjang students' reluctance to jump in to help their friend.

Then later, in Episode 95, during Ben and Alex's backstory, Jimmy does the same after Sean and his buddies cower and flee from the fight, instead of helping Alex.

Then, all the way at the end of the series, in Episode 237 during the battle between Eunjang and the Union, Jimmy is still calling out his opponents for saving their own skin, over helping a friend. That's three separate instances, at the beginning, middle, and end of the series, where Jimmy pointed out instances where kids preferred to stand on the side while their friend got beaten up by him.

Sure, Jimmy is a bully and a real jerk, especially since he's always the instigator of the fight in these scenarios, but we also come to understand that his single redeeming trait is that the most important thing to him is not pride, but loyalty.

For him, it doesn't require a second thought to immediately rush to where Jack is in trouble, even if it means he's probably just going to get beaten up as well. To him, there's nothing worse than abandoning a friend in need. It's one thing to torment some random guy he barely knows and frankly, doesn't care about at all, and it's another thing to stick to the sidelines while someone you're supposed to be friends with gets ruthlessly beaten to a pulp.

The cool thing about this is that it does nothing to redeem Jimmy or make up for the horrible stuff he does, since he's still a terrible person who harasses his peers for fun. All it does is give him another facet— Jimmy may be an awful kid, but he has his own set of principles, and a line that he'll never cross, ever. Anyway, just thought this was cool and I don't see many people talking about it.
