Melinda (Kristen Stewart) is struggling to deal with the trauma of being raped at a party the year before. She called the cops but got scared at the last moment and left, this caused all her "friends" to turn on her.

Depressed and alone, Melinda finds solace in her new art class with the one teacher who cares (Steve Zahn). She is selectively mute and her family dont understand why she wont talk to them anymore...

Excellent 2000's indie film/drama. Kristen Stewart is excellent as Melinda, loved her character, was really rooting for her. Her coming to terms with what happened to her and taking control of her life again was done well. Loved the ending to the film also.

Speak is Kristen Stewart's first leading role.

Although the film is quite sombre its also very funny at points. Great teen drama. Will rewatch.

Are you a watcher or a player?

There are scenes that made my palms sweat so of course I have no choice but to love this film.

The story impressively delves into an addictive social media subculture that shapes people’s behaviour online and in real life (even though the ending is a bit too neat & tidy for my tastes).

But it’s the transformative journey of the hero, built upon each successive game-dare, that really sticks with me as a hallmark of the story and is what makes it great. 🤘🖤

A Simple Favor is a 2018 film directed by Paul Feig.

The film, starring Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively, is the film adaptation of the 2017 novel A Simple Favor by Darcey Bell.

Stephanie Smothers is a widowed single mother who runs a recipe vlog.

One day Emily calls her friend and tells her that she has a serious problem at work, so she asks Stephanie to babysit Nicky while she is busy, because Sean has flown to London to assist his mother, who is hospitalized with a fractured femur. After two days in which Emily gives no news and does not answer her calls, a worried Stephanie contacts her employer, Dennis Nylon, who hastily informs her that Emily is in Miami.

A fan of Stephanie's blog reports seeing Emily at a gas station in Michigan, then alerts the police who actually find the car near a summer camp and Emily's body drowned in the nearby lake. Detective Summerville, who continues the investigation, reveals to Stephanie that the autopsy on Emily found severe liver damage, a large amount of heroin in her body, and puncture marks in her arm and between her toes. Added to this, Sean recently took out a $4 million life insurance policy on Emily.

Emily is arrested after being hit by a car driven by Stephanie's friend, who was watching the live stream.

The final text explains that Emily was sentenced to 20 years in prison; that Sean's second novel became a New York Times bestseller and that he is a successful professor at Berkeley; Stephanie's vlog reached a million followers and turned into a morning show, and she also became a part-time private detective. Emily is in prison and winning a basketball game.

Filming of the film began on August 14, 2017 in Toronto.

In the United States the film was banned for children under 17 due to the presence of "sexual content, nudity, bad language, drug use and violence".

On the aggregator Rotten Tomatoes the film received 85% positive professional reviews with an average rating of 6.9 out of 10 based on 204 reviews, while on Metacritic it obtained a score of 67 out of 100 based on 40 reviews.

In May 2022 Prime Video announced the start of production of the sequel; the direction will always be entrusted to Paul Feig, Blake Lively and Anna Kendrick will return to the cast, while the screenplay will be written by Jessica Sharzer, who will also cover the role of producer together with Feig.
