fics i'm too lazy to write
jeanette/ace (something extremely early on, like 1974 or so), i dunno. maybe she's too classy a lady for that but i'd like to write some more het. the older i get, the more i want m/f smut.
i have a really old start to a paul/peter/lydia threesome fic (from around '75 or '76) that never went anywhere
ace sitting around at one of his garage sales in the late eightiesish (maybe early nineties), selling off his costumes to former kiss kids. might have gene show up to make it slightly less depressing. *this one might actually get written, who knows

The Tod Howarth mini interview
Back in... uuh 2004? I got the chance to do a mini interview bit for mine and friend’s website with Tod Howarth from Ace Frehley’s solo band. We had people submit questions they wanted to ask him too.
I recently found the interview and incase ya wanna read what he had to say here it is:
Hey Tod! First of all, how are you doing?
Tod: Well not too bad really, busy (as anybody might be) I'm enjoying the early summer here in San Diego. I'm writing and recording albeit very slowly at the moment because I've got a few things on my plate here that are taking up most of my time - some musical some not. However the wife and I are enjoying some time together with the ski boat and motorhome - even here locally in the wonderful bay areas of San Diego.
How did you become a musician? Tell us what got you started?
Tod: It was the Beatles that got me going. I saw them on TV in 1964 and I was transfixed. My ability really didn't come out until a few years later but I started to sing and hear all the harmonies and lead vocals from this (then) new mop-top band - and because the way that the girls reacted to them I thought 'Well now, this must have something to it, hmmmm'.
Who are your idols?
Tod: I have many really, From early on Guitar, Jeff Beck, Eddie Van Halen, Vocals, Steve Marriott, Steve Walsh (of Kansas) I told him that once and he didn't quite know how to react. I loved the Babys, a great band back in the '70's. Today I really like a lot of fresh HEAVY stuff as well as the likes of Sting, Seal, early Phil Collins. Maybe these are more influences that they are idols. Paul McCartney is probably my biggest idol.
What instruments do you play? Cause I have seen pictures of you playing several.
Tod: I am a singer first really, then I learned keyboards, drums, guitar, bass. I play mostly guitar now but for many years I was known primarily as a keyboardist. I'm best at keys and guitar - I have to really learn the parts (of my songs) on the drums because it's a refresher course every time because I don't play everyday (or week, month etc for that matter) When I was about 15 I played drums a lot but succumbed to the lure of the all mighty guitar!
Tell something about your early career. What was the first band you played with etc.?
Tod: Well, professionally that would be 707, my first real garage band was a three piece with no bass player - I was on guitar. Then a band called 'Cocoa Blue' That was a great band - my cousin by marriage, Jason Scheff, played bass - he's now and has been with the band 'Chicago' Then 'Dartanyan'..and then I moved to Los Angeles and played with many variations of bands until I landed the gig with 707.
Since you are mostly known from Frehley's Comet, how did you get together with Ace?
Tod: I met Ace through John Regan when I was on tour with Cheap Trick and John was playing with John Wait back in 1985/86. Regan was doing some side stuff with Ace at the time and thought that I might be a benefit to the up and coming Comet plan.
* Here’s some random questions from our website members. *
What's your favorite Song and Video of Frehley's Comet?
Tod: "Something Moved" was my fave - I guess because it's my tune and it was so fun to sing and play live. "Insane" was the fave video because of well, have you seen it? Women, women, women!
Who's the redhead on Ace's lap in the video for 'Insane'? It's not Jeanette is it?
Tod: That was Kim, Ace's girlfriend at the time. I have heard that she had a hard time after they broke up and he had rejoined KISS. She took her own life. This I have not confirmed but it was well circulated. (yikes)
Do you still keep in touch with Ace?
Tod: I have not talked to Ace in years - he's been very busy of course and was not interested in the Comet reunion or so I had heard. I do miss the guy.
I'd like to know if you always knew that Ace was as sober as he pretended to be or if he acknowledged any difference on stage, if he (Ace) was performing after "substance abuse"?
Tod: When I first started playing with the Comet he was sober, straight headed, and driven to succeed again. I really don't know if he ever played 'hammered' when I was with the band because he kind of had that 'hammered' movement thing going for him in that all so 'Ace' manner!
Have you had any contact with John Regan again?
Tod: Each and most every time that he comes through with Peter Frampton we see each other and or talk.
Are you coming to Europe again at any point?
Tod: A pending opportunity that just came up may in fact bring me back over there - if and when this happens it'll be up and on my (much needed updating) website. http://www.todhowarth.com/
Do you really prefer brunettes (like I have heard)?
Tod: Yes, weird huh, that I'm married to a blonde! (lol)
Have you read the KISS & Tell book about Ace and if you have is it all true?
Tod: No, I have not read it all the way through - that would be so hard for me to do because it seems to be 'tit for tat' crap. Some of it may ring true and some may be embellished but I wouldn't know about a lot of that - just my involvement - of which I did read and it's not all that accurate.
Thank you Tod!
Tod: Thank you!! Talk soon.

‘YOU GROPED MY WIFE’: Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of sexual assault
‘YOU GROPED MY WIFE’: Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of sexual assault ‘YOU GROPED MY WIFE’: Ace Frehley accuses Gene Simmons of sexual assault https://ift.tt/eA8V8J
Ace Frehley has accused his former Kiss bandmate Gene Simmons of “groping” his wife in a scathing social media post.
Simmons hit headlines on Tuesday after he gave an interview with Guitar World in which he said his former bandmate had been fired from the rock band three times for “drugs, alcohol, bad behaviour” and would happily have him briefly appear during KISS’ End Of The Road farewell tour but he couldn’t be relied upon to last a full set and would never be welcomed back into the group.
Frehley responded by posting a scathing message on Facebook in which he made a host of allegations about the bassist, including claims Simmons once propositioned his wife.
“Today’s comments have made me realize you’re just an a–hole and a sex addict who’s being sued by multiple Women, and you’re just trying to sweep it all under the carpet!” he wrote. “The icing on the cake was when you groped my wife and propositioned her in Los Angeles at the Capitol Records building behind my back, when I was trying to help you out at one of your ‘Vault Experiences’ which I only found out about several weeks later…she was planning on pursuing a suit against you, but I told her to call it off!!!”
It is not clear which partner Frehley is referring to in his post. He is thought to be still legally married to his first wife Jeanette Trerotola, and has been engaged to Rachael Gordon since 2010.
//<![CDATA[ ( function() { pnLoadVideo( "videos", "GhCuHCicheE", "pn_video_614449", "", "", {"controls":1,"autoplay":0,"is_mobile":""} ); } )(); //]]>
In December Simmons was sued for sexual battery for allegedly groping an employee at one of his restaurants in 2016. Earlier last year he settled another sexual assault lawsuit from an unnamed woman who accused him of making “several aggressive, unwanted sexual advances” toward her in 2017.
In his Facebook post, Frehley claimed he was never fired from KISS, but quit twice. He said Simmons and Paul Stanley had “tried to derail my solo career multiple times”, and that their comments about his substance abuse problems have “cost me millions of dollars” even though he’s been sober for 12 years.
He concluded, “Well now the gloves are off after your terrible comments today and I’m thinking that this really may be ‘The End Of The Road Tour’ for you guys!!!… Without a complete and heartfelt apology, an offer to give me my old job back, and removing Tommy (Thayer) from the Throne that I created… THE S— WILL HIT THE FAN AND THEY’LL BE NO STOPPING IT-IT’S ON!!!”

weird kiss things
paul stanley’s ex girlfriends include but are not limited to:
*lydia’s cousin
*shannon tweed’s sister, tracy tweed (after her breakup with, wait for it, diana ross’ brother-- and, of course, diana is one of gene’s exes)
*cher’s sister, georganne lapierre (dated her while gene was dating cher)
bobby mcadams, kiss’ former hairstylist (1974- circa 1980 or 1981), used to cut gordon gebert’s hair and has known gordon since he [gordon] was 12. (later co-authored kiss and tell with him.)
bobby states that he worked for ace again as his personal assistant in the mid-2000′s (on ace’s invitation), and ace never, ever mentioned kiss and tell that entire time. (neither did jeanette.) ace did, however, ask him about wendy moore’s book. bobby assured him that he came out of that book “smelling like roses.” i doubt if ace believed him.
the number of kiss/kiss-adjacent people (not including relatives, e.g. paul’s sister, ace and peter’s siblings) who knew og kiss pre-kiss (what a mouthful) currently above ground continues to dwindle, but those include but hopefully aren’t limited to:
*lydia criss (peter’s first wife)
*jeanette frehley (ace’s wife)
*bruce kulick (older brother bob kulick was buddies with paul and gene-- actually went to yeshiva with gene-- and, had it not been for ace, would have probably gotten the lead guitarist gig in kiss; bob later became a ghost/session musician for kiss off and on)
*bobby mcadams (first employee on kiss’ payroll)
my criteria for “pre-kiss” is basically “knew the band (not just individual members) before it got a name,” in order, basically, to keep from having to count the various people in wicked lester, molimo, and chelsea, as well as all of gene’s high school/college buddies. gene actually had a lot of friends in those days.

ace and the amazing not-technicolor dressed to kill/alive costume(s)
in my salad days, i was a cosplayer (in my uni days, i was a theater minor), and one of the things i like doing is looking over the kiss costumes to get an idea of the construction/materials/etc. some are a lot more obvious than others. but it’s also neat as you look into all the iterations of individual costumes for a tour or tours.
there’s a fantastic overview of really everyone’s costumes (in makeup, sorry; unfortunately, no one’s made an exhaustive review of bruce’s myriad bedazzled BK tops or paul’s fringed lysol gloves yet) on this site, but i really wanted to take a look at ace’s ‘75-early ‘76 costume, which they’ve covered a bit here.
there are more versions of this costume than are listed here. i’m honestly a bit curious as to why he had so many alternate versions. ace’s costumes were fairly cheap to make at this point, so that may have factored in to the amount of changes. i have some ideas, but let’s take a look.
this one isn’t listed on the site as one of the versions of this costume, but it is. his pose doesn’t really do him any favors here, but this version isn’t exactly flattering. in my non-professional opinion, looking at a nearly fifty-year-old photo, i think that the (uneven/wavy) lightning bolt design is probably an iron-on vinyl cutout. not knocking it-- it’s a convenient way to get a nice lineless look-- but with the severe wear and tear of being on the road, the chances that this could be cleaned well without peeling off (or avoid peeling at all) are pretty low. i like the way the comets reverse. the zipper’s very visible here, and the way they silver piping goes down the collar isn’t as flattering as it probably looked on paper.
(hi, jeanette!) this is what the fansite lists as the first version of the costume. you can see in this version (and the ones following) that the lightning bolts are sewn-on appliques; they’re also padded. the trouble with the appliques is that they’re not very smooth or precise (if you look at too many pictures of these, you’ll notice that they never line up completely evenly), and there’s bunching (again, stretchy material and it is difficult to work with it and make sure it looks nice!) it looks like the sleeve stretched out when he kept rolling it up. but what kind of confuses me is the lack of silver piping on his left sleeve in the first picture. was the piping only velcroed on? (kind of unlikely, to me, given how it’s not too thick. it’s not impossible that it’s snap-on) a mystery....
holy seam puckering, batman! sewing zippers is a pain, and sewing zippers onto spandex or anything with stretch is an even worse pain. you can see the puckers on a lot of pictures of this outfit (regardless of version). the length of the zipper in this costume would have helped considerably/been necessary for getting in and out of it, but it does pose some aesthetic drawbacks.
so, why do i think he went through so many iterations? here are my theories.
1) i don’t think he was fond of the sleeve piping/cuffs/whatever you want to call them. he keeps rolling the sleeves up, and there’s even a version with shorter sleeves.
2) the visible, long zipper could detract onstage/in pictures, keeping the look from being as streamlined and clean. i think this is why most of his later costumes (minus elder) went back to chestpieceland/vestland-- it hides the zipper.
3) trouble with the lightning bolts. against the black leotard, even tiny differences in the shape/sizes/placement of the bolts (particularly at the front of the costume) are very obvious, because that’s where your eye immediately goes.
