Jamaine Ortiz vs Jamel Herring - 5/21/2022
Jamaine Ortiz arrived in 2022. First he took an upset win over Jamel Herring, then he took Lomachenko to the brink. He hasn't fought since losing out to Loma but he's set to make his return to the ring this Friday (Sept. 16) against Antonio Moran (29-5-1) on the undercard of Luis Alberto Lopez-Joet Gonzalez on ESPN.

Do you think Ansi and Hobie will ever grow 'old' (though they aren't old) like May and MJ 👀
I've been sitting on this ask for the longest because I genuinely don't know.
It'd be easy to just say yes and be done with it but then i thought what does growing old even mean for them.
May and MJ aren't married and they each have their own houses because that's what works for them. (MJ is just always at May's house.)
But idk what Ansi and Hobie want for the future of their relationship.
I guess we're just gonna have to wait and see 🤷🏾‍♀️

"The gerrymandering alone undermines Wisconsin’s status as a democracy. If a majority of the people cannot, under any realistic circumstances, elect a legislative majority of their choosing, then it’s hard to say whether they actually govern themselves."
--Jamelle Bouie, Opinion Columnist, The New York Times
Tumblr media
Jamelle Bouie points out the disturbing way that Republicans in Wisconsin have basically destroyed democratic representative government on all levels by:
Creating an unbreakable gerrymander to ensure a Republican legislative majority, even if more people vote for Democrats.
Weakening the power of a Democratic governor,.
Targeting a liberal Wisconsin supreme court justice for removal or suspension so that the state SC won't have the power to rule against gerrymandered districting maps, and won't be able to prevent a 19th century ban on abortion from becoming law.
This is chilling. Below are some excerpts from the column:
For more than a decade, dating back to the Republican triumph in the 2010 midterm elections, Wisconsin Republicans have held their State Legislature in an iron lock, forged by a gerrymander so stark that nothing short of a supermajority of the voting public could break it. [...] In 2018, this gerrymander proved strong enough to allow Wisconsin Republicans to win a supermajority of seats in the Assembly despite losing the vote for every statewide office and the statewide legislative vote by 8 percentage points, 54 to 46. No matter how much Wisconsin voters might want to elect a Democratic Legislature, the Republican gerrymander won’t allow them to. [...] Using their gerrymandered majority, Wisconsin Republicans have done everything in their power to undermine, subvert or even nullify the public’s attempt to chart a course away from the Republican Party. In 2018, for example, Wisconsin voters put Tony Evers, a Democrat, in the governor’s mansion, sweeping the incumbent, Scott Walker, out of office. immediately, Wisconsin Republicans introduced legislation to weaken the state’s executive branch, curbing the authority that Walker had exercised as governor. Earlier this year, Wisconsin voters took another step toward ending a decade of Republican minority rule in the Legislature by electing Janet Protasiewicz, a liberal Milwaukee county judge, to the State Supreme Court, in one of the most high-profile and expensive judicial elections in American history. [...] “Republicans in Wisconsin are coalescing around the prospect of impeaching a newly seated liberal justice on the state’s Supreme Court,” my newsroom colleague Reid J. Epstein reports. “The push, just five weeks after Justice Janet Protasiewicz joined the court and before she has heard a single case, serves as a last-ditch effort to stop the new 4-to-3 liberal majority from throwing out Republican-drawn state legislative maps and legalizing abortion in Wisconsin.” Republicans have more than enough votes in the Wisconsin State Assembly to impeach Justice Protasiewicz and just enough votes in the State Senate — a two-thirds majority — to remove her. But removal would allow Governor Evers to appoint another liberal jurist, which is why Republicans don’t plan to convict and remove Protasiewicz. If, instead, the Republican-led State Senate chooses not to act on impeachment, Justice Protasiewicz is suspended but not removed. The court would then revert to a 3-3 deadlock, very likely preserving the Republican gerrymander and keeping a 19th-century abortion law, which bans the procedure, on the books. If successful, Wisconsin Republicans will have created, in effect, an unbreakable hold on state government. With their gerrymander in place, they have an almost permanent grip on the State Legislature, with supermajorities in both chambers. With these majorities, they can limit the reach and power of any Democrat elected to statewide office and remove — or neutralize — any justice who might rule against the gerrymander. [color/emphasis added[
Tumblr media
"It’s that breathtaking contempt for the people of Wisconsin — who have voted, since 2018, for a more liberal State Legislature and a more liberal State Supreme Court and a more liberal governor, with the full powers of his office available to him — that makes the Wisconsin Republican Party the most openly authoritarian in the country."

UNIQUE X BLACK!FEM!Reader
WARNINGS: SMUT! Llight daddy kink, spanking, toxic relationship, cheating, unprotected sex (wrap it df up), breeding kink, angst.
SUMMARY: Reader and Unique find themselves fighting about both of their infidelities after a party.
(Hopefully this will encourage some of y’all to write about him cause Wattpad ain’t enough lmao.)
(Ps, forgive me if this is bad, I’m most likely gonna rewrite it in more depth)
"...you get on my fuckin' nerves. You know that?" Y/N squinted at her boyfriend. She was seething with anger and her fists were clenched so hard that her acrylics could have popped off one by one. She really wanted to deck him right in his shit, but didn't need any other reason for him to fuck her over even more. They were just coming back from a party hosted by Y/N's bestfriend, Trina, and she was more upset than ever.
Same ole' shit. They were arguing over, as Y/N would say 'A bunch of bird brain bitches flocking to him so he could feed off that shit' like the narcissist she thought he was.
✮✮✮✮
Unique kissed his teeth and slowly closed his eyes, laying his head back on the seats head rest. He didn't care to hear me out at all. Honestly, he was both high and drunk as hell and couldn't care less about anything other than getting home.
"We just got back in the car and you already doin' too much" he mumbled, leaning against his doors arm and rubbing his temple with one hand. "You rather entertain some random bitch than do right by me. You have all these bitches in yo' face all day and night, but don't wanna pay attention to the one who held you down and gave you a daughter? Okay Nique. Have them bitches" I teared up, pointing my finger at him with every sentence that wasn't a question.
He side eyed me and tried to bite his tongue before he said something that would hurt me more than the situation, which he eventually failed at. "You here wit' me, ain't you? If I wanted them bitches I would have had 'em here instead of you" he shot back, my tears starting to drop. "You think that shit make me feel better?! It don't mean nun if you still flirting with every bitch that crosses your path!"
He made a 'be serious' face at me before speaking "You be over analyzing everything. I could pass somebody a napkin and here you go cryin' in the back of the club. Damn, crybaby" he mumbled the last part with a small, drunken laugh. I shoved him, the man brushing my hand right off of him. "Cut that shit out" he warned, leaning back in his seat to get as far away from me as he could before I did something I regretted.
"You think that shit funny and it ain't. You laugh until I leave yo' ass for good" he rolled his eyes, my words going in one ear and out the other. "Yeah, aight. You ain't stupid" he chuckled and I squinted. "Yeah, I ain't. That's why I should. Fuck with a nigga who gon' treat me right and give me the loyalty and respect I deserve"
Apparently those were the words that got under his skin the most, cause his next comment would go for my jugular, but it didn't have the effect he thought it would.
"It wasn't a problem when you was fuckin' on that other nigga though. Jamel, or whatever the fuck his name was"
A smirk grew on my face. I knew that it was one of the things that could hurt him tho most, so I made sure that shit burned real good when I said it. "Yup. It was good too! Now you know he was giving me sumn you couldn't or won't give me" Unique let out a loud laugh before looking at me with his head tilted, almost as if he was challenging me with how far I could go with my words.
My bottom lip quivered as another tear rolled down my blushed cheek, taking a deep breath before speaking. "At least I know he loves me. He the only one who give a fuck bout me. The only one that check on me when IM down, not when he need shit"
A smile grew on Unique's face. It wasn't just a regular smile. It was that smile that happens right before you say some shit to fuck with somebodies head. "You fuck that nigga and think he love you cause he say it? You think he give a fuck cause he give you a fake ass empathetic ear to speak into? Cause he stalk you and hit you up at the exact times when we not together? Or is it cause he tell you that you don't need me..and you need to 'upgrade' to somebody who respect you? You let that nigga fuck a few times and he told you he loves you right before he pulls out and busts a nut on your stomach, so now you believe that shit."
If he didn't realize I was crying before, he sure did realize now. I couldn't stop my sobs, my hand covering my mouth to keep the sounds from traveling to anyone who had walked by the vehicle. Even with all of that, he kept going. In hindsight, he was hurting in the same exact way.
"After all of that, sitting through five minutes worth of fucking, you go to use his bathroom and end up crying to yourself cause you let a loser ass nigga fuck and it still ain't make you forget about me, even with all that noise he filled your head with. He don't mean that shit, and you know it. My question is, what's worse? Fucking a few bitches I don't care about AFTER you did that shit first or fucking a nigga you had even the SLIGHTEST connection with?"
He was right, but him saying it felt like my heart was ripped out and stomped on twice. "...and how long has it been since you told me you love me, huh? Cause it stopped way before I did what I did" I spoke, wiping my tears from my face. He looked at me with little to no empathy, waving me off with his hand. "...don't ask me that shit right now. I never knew I had to tell you that shit every day for you to know"
I sighed and buried my head into my hands, trying to collect my thoughts. The car was silent for a minute or so until I spoke. "I like reassurance, Nique. You know how I am...and I'm sorry. We both wrong, but damn...at least I can admit when I did wrong" I said, my voice quivering.
It was silent once again, neither of us knowing what to say next. I felt his eyes on my intensity, his gaze making me feel ashamed for jumping so such conclusions and letting someone talk me into it at that. My head was stronger than that, yet I allowed myself to get manipulated like that, just for a quick fantasy. It wasn't all rainbows with Unique, but I'd rather be with good and bad than just bad disguised as good. I felt sick.
Unique took it upon himself to speak, taking a deep breath first. "I know I do wrong, and I apologized for that shit before. Actually, no, I apologize for everything I have ever done to hurt you and what I might do to hurt you in the future. All of it...but all this shit concerning you hurting me? I'll let all this shit go right now. I just wanna know why you be using that nigga, huh? Why you did that shit to me?" He asked, scooting closer to me and moving my hands from my face so that I would look at him and be forced to tell the truth.
I looked at him in his eyes and shrugged. "...I thought you cheated first. All them girls you and them other niggas be having around, I couldn't get it out my head that you was doing something, and when I was vulnerable, Jamel just kept those thoughts going. He told me if you wasn't doing something, which you 'for sure' was, then it was bound to happen and I believed that shit. I mean look at how late you be out. Plus when you do get home, you don't give me kisses as soon as you get there. You immediately go to the shower like you trynna scrub off a bitch scent"
I vented and he chuckled, nodding. "Yeah, that sound suspicious, but I'm all for you. I'm absolutely in love with you Y/N and I don't want nobody but you. Fuck them bitches. And the shower thing? Ion think you wanna know them stories, you might throw up on me from the image. You remember that time I broke my hand? Yeah" I chuckled at his reasoning and he smiled, taking my hand in his.
"I'd be a fool if I fuck up what I got for some street hoes. You too good to me, Ma" he lifted my head and kissed my cheek before kissing my lips sweetly, making me melt.
And just like that, we were back to where we started without all the tension, the setting a few minutes later would only deepen that feeling and connection I had with him.
✮✮✮✮
"Oh my goddd" I moaned, my head smooshed against the cream colored, leather seats.
My makeup was smudged and rubbing off on the material, making it shine with bronzer and foundation. By now my dress was rolled up around my waist and my bra was long gone. Unique held onto my lace panties that were pulled to the side and kept his strokes coming, the pace being almost unbearable. I felt him deep, so deep that my eyes watered with each overpowering jab.
"Fuck, baby" I heard him grunt from behind me, his hands moving up and holding onto my wide hips to keep me in place, which wasn't so successful with my back hunching out of it's arch constantly. With him hitting my spot head on, I began attempting to pull myself up using the doors handle. Thankfully it was locked or else it would have slid open and somebody would see me getting my back blown out.
"Where you goin? Nah, you can take this dick. You talk allat shit, you gon take this dick"
He hummed, forcing me back onto him by dragging me back down, my tired arms just laying where they dropped to when he pulled me. "Bounce on this dick" he instructed, my head tiredly shaking. I could barely take it and he wanted me to bounce on it? The man was crazy.
I could feel wind from his hand swipe past my thigh but it was too late for me to react, his large hand already making contact with the skin on my ass, slapping it harshly. I took that only as a warning, knowing what he was capable of and started to bounce myself back onto him.
My thighs burned, my clit was throbbing and still overstimulated from the other position, and he still wasn't done. Every time I'd slow down my bouncing, thinking he'd take control again, he'd lay another slap on my ass, telling me I wasn't done.
"Don't slow down. Bring that ass to me, ma. Mhmmm" now reaching both his arms around my waist and partially pulling me up, he started to thrust rapidly, sending me into a sudden shock. My breath caught in my throat, unable to be released as he did what he wanted, no matter how tired and bruised I was.
I tried to tell him I couldn't go on anymore, but my body wouldn't let me. I was completely drunk on him and he only took that to his advantage.
"You gon lemme get you pregnant again? Hm?" He asked, his head tilting. I laid my head back against his shoulder and weakly nodded, my bottom lip quivering. I quickly approached another orgasm, my hands reaching forward for the doors handle again as I felt it come harder than expected.
I had already came so much you'd think the orgasms got weaker as they went on, but they didn't. Before I knew it, I was squirting all over the seats, making me let out an uncontrollable scream. The sound came directly from my throat, the vibration irritating it so much that it'd leave my tone hushed for the rest of the night.
He pulled out and watched my juices drip from the tip of his dick, his own precum spurting out a little. His dick jumped at the sight. "Get up and come ride this dick"
He said maneuvering himself into the seat across from us and pulling me with him.
I weakly followed, falling right into his lap. I complained and whined with my legs still shaking as he didn't help, but more so push me into position on him. I put my legs on either side of him and he slipped himself back inside.
Wet sounds filled the car once again with me beginning my bouncing, using his shoulders to help me.
He looked up at me with low eyes, his bottom lip in between his teeth and his golden grillz giving me a flaunting flash. His hands made its way to my ass, squeezing the soft flesh while helping me maintain a proper rhythm to get him off.
"This pussy too good, baby. Ain't no way you thought you was leaving me that easy"
He spoke and ran his tongue across his bottom lip before leaning in and kissing my neck, a moan escaping my mouth. He was such an asshole, but he made certain shit sound so good, which explains why I'm even in this situation now. "You love me?" He asked, my head nodding right after. A sly smirk grew on his face at that reaction.
Lifting his hips, he started to thrust into me on his own, his hands moving down to grip onto the seats as he bucked his hips into me wildly. I threw my head back and cried out. "FUCK!— Fuuuck, Nique!" I called his name, my hands flying to hold onto the back of the seat.
My pussy clenched around him tightly, gripping him for dear life and he hissed, his dick beginning to twitch inside me. "Ouu, shit!" He cursed and wrapped both of his arms back around me, pressing me down onto him while he pumped into me. The feeling had me rolling my eyes back, begging for a break.
"I love you so much, baby. Daddy so sorry" he cooed softly in my ear. I moaned and nodded again, my mouth wide open. "You forgive me? Yeah?"
"Yeah!..I'm sorry, baby!" I managed to reply with a whine following immediately after.
"Let me nut deep inside this pussy then. It's mine right?"
"Yes! It's all yours!"
"Let daddy paint this pretty pussy then" he spoke. His tone was sly and controlled, but his breaths weren't, both his inhales and exhales being shaky with his orgasm nearing. I shouted another 'yes', and that was all he needed.
A minute later I found myself falling backwards, his arms catching me just in time as he released his nut into me, filling me up with a loud moan.

Kayla Holland was a six-year-old girl who loved to go to church and watch her favourite show on television, Barney. She was known as a kind and sensitive little girl who “would help anybody.” Her babysitter described as having a heart of gold. She lived in Mount Morris Township, Michigan, with her mother and two older siblings.
On the 29th of February, 2000, Kayla arrived for her classes at Buell Elementary School. During a change of classes, Kayla was approached by her classmate, Dedrick Owens. While standing in front of Kayla, Dedrick announced “I don’t like you,” before retrieving a .32 handgun from his pocket and shooting Kayla.
The bullet entered her right arm and travelled through a vital artery. As a small, crimson spot spread across her pullover shirt, Kayla said “I’m going to die” to another classmate before falling to the ground. Within half an hour, Kayla was dead. Her mother’s cries could be heard throughout the halls of the hospital.
As it turned out, Dedrick had been living in a crack house operated by his uncle, Jamelle James, after his drug addicted mother was evicted from their home. The crack den was constantly filled with drugs and guns that would often be traded amongst the people that were granted entry.
His father was in jail for violating parole; he had been convicted of cocaine possession with the intent to sell. The gun used in the shooting had been stolen by Jamelle and had been picked up by Dedrick as it sat under a blanket. Several witnesses told police they had seen Dedrick playing with the handgun on several earlier occasions.
Throughout his short life, Dedrick had behavioral issues and was known to kick and hit other classmates. In fact, he had attacked Kayla beforehand and on the day before the shooting, he had attempted to kiss her on the playground and she pushed him away. He later told police he had taken the gun in an attempt to scare Kayla after their playground altercation.
Due to Dedrick’s young age, it was declared that he lacked the ability to form intent and was therefore not charged with murder. Jamelle James, the uncle who owned the gun, pleaded guilty to no contest to involuntary manslaughter and spent two years and five months in prison.
Kayla was the youngest school shooting victim in the United States until the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012.

I have been sharing things about French fairytale movies. We have been talking about Cinderella. As such I want to speak about a movie I actually can't really speak about because I have not seen it... But I need to just talk about it because... Well, you'll get it. It is the 2017's Les Nouvelles Aventures de Cendrillon (The New Adventures of Cinderella).
Tumblr media
Now to understand WHERE this movie comes from, we need to return to 2015 and the release of another movie "The New Adventures of Aladin".
Tumblr media
This movie is a comedy, an humoristic retelling/parody of the Aladin tale - France has quite a history of One Thousand and One Nights-cinema, and already humoristic takes on similar stories had been done (Gérard Jugnot had notably played in an humoristic Ali Baba movie I saw when I was young, for example). Here the main star and the actor playing Aladin is Kev Addams, which was then a young humorist that had been on the rise for quite a few years and was an "idol of the youngs", so to speak. The gist of the movie is: two thieves are disguising themselves as Santa Clauses in modern-day Paris to steal at the Galeries Lafayette. But they are stuck with a group of children who asks them for a story - and so to get rid of them, they decide to tell them an improvised version of the story of Aladdin, which in turn parallels the real-life events surrounding the thieves.
[Note the writing of "Aladin" with one "d", to carefully avoid any Disney lawsuit.]
This movie was very, very popular in theaters. It was popular enough to actually get a sequel called "Alad'2" (a pun on how "in" sounds like "un", "one"), which also was one of the leads of the box-office in France, and brought in another French humorist, this time of the "previous generation" before Adams - Jamel Debbouze:
Tumblr media
But there was one problem... Both movies were absolutely torn to shreds by the critics. In newspapers, on websites, everybody agreed that these movies were actually bad, and not at all good movies nor great comedies. In fact, the reviews of the movies and the sales corresponding to it clashed so much it caused an online scandal when it came to the website AlloCiné (one of the French websites of reference when it comes to cinema), who was openly accused of faking reviews and inventing profiles to boost this movie's note - because it seemed impossible, with all the negative critics and the backlash, that the movie could obtain a mid-rating (3/5).
All of that to say, these movies were very polarizing - seen as embodying the typical bad comedies and a certain "downfall" of French cinema everybody has been talking about in the 2010s, and yet being massively mediatized and very popular among young audiences especially, and bringing in a lot of cash...
Now we reach our movie. Welcome "The New Adventures of Cinderella"! Which technically seems like a spin-off of the Aladin movies, and yet by its chronological placement seems to be a sequel "by the principle", not directly following it while still reusing its principle and referencing the previous movie (this movie was released BEFORE Alad'2)
Tumblr media
This movie basically does what "Les Nouvelles Aventures d'Aladin" did - it is an humoristic retelling/open parody of Cinderella, framed as an adult being forced to tell a story to children. In this case it is Julie, a young girl who finds herself alone on the day of her birthday, without anybody remembering it... Until Marco, the man she secretely loves (and the son of her boss) calls to tell her he is coming over. Filled with hope she awaits... only to discover Marco brings her his son because he needed a last-minute babysitter. Stuck with this particularly bratty child, Julie is forced to tell him a story, and fed up with everybody treating her like a servant, she decides to tell a version of Cinderella where she plays the main role - and Marco is the prince she tries to win. Other characters from her life are recast: her boss is the king, her bitchy colleagues are the wicked stepsisters, her annoying neighbor if the evil stepmother... And Snow-White with her seven dwarves pop up at some point - because just like with the "Aladin", Disney references are quite present...
The main actress (Cinderella/Julie) s Marilou Berry, who truly was noticed and became quite famous thanks to playing in "Vilaine", and after passing by a series of movies (including "Les reines du ring"), she had another focus thanks to the success of the "Joséphine" movie. The cast also gathers other actors quite used to the world of comedy, ranging from older generations of the "classics" (Josiane Balasko as the wicked stepmother, Didier Bourdon as the king) to more recent ones (Arnaud Ducret as the prince Marco, Vincent Desagnat as the prince's older brother).
Tumblr media
Now, I have not seen the movie, so I can't confirm or infirm this... But when it was released, this piece got bashed. Really, really hard. Harder than the Aladin movie, from people simply calling it "unfunny" and "cringe" to other actively pointing it out as being offensive and sexist, if not misogynistic. Aladin's note online roughly went around a 3/5. This one hesitated between 2/5 and 1,5/5. Now, again, I can't say I agree or disagree with these reviews because I have not seen the movie - and we all know a mass-opinion can be wrong. It seems more recently kinder reviews have been opping around the Internet - pointing out that all the backlash ths movie received was exaggerated and the piece was better than what everybody descibed.
Now, if you want my two pences of thought, I do believe that maybe this has to do with the audience that went to see these movies. As I said, Kev Adams was quite the "idol of the youth" when he did the Aladin movie (I don't know if he still is), but he had a BIG fanbase among teenage girls for example, as well as a certain scope to a young audience. And precisely who kept talking about these Aladin movies and who was more interested in those Aladin movies? Children. Meanwhile this Cinderella movie lacks any star or face that a young audience could recognize - no real Kev Adams. Yes, Marilou Berry is here, but her audience is not known to be young children - and as such, I do believe that the Aladin movies were favored by having a natural "fanbase" and already formed young audience ready to dig in. Meanwhile here two of the prominent stars are actors who symbolize the humor of the 20th century and are now quite aged - Balasko and Bourdon - who will speak to adults, but probably not to children... Anyway I am really speaking out of anything here, especially since I haven't seen the movie, but I do believe that this played a part in how this movie was received in a lesser way than the Aladin ones. (Plus the Aladin movies were clearly aimed at a male audience, which coupled with Kev Adams' natural teenage girl fanbase and the big success of Disney's Aladdin among girls, made sure both genders could go see it without shame - meanwhile this movie is clearly a "girl movie" meaning the audience is already restricted a bit more... And as such much more offended - as I said the movie was accused of being a piece of misogynistic jokes (doesn't help that there are only men who wrote and directed this movie).
But again, it might also have to do with the movie just being bad, you know. After all the man behind this movie (Lionel Steketee) is not the one that made the first Aladin movie (Arthur Benzaquen) but rather the one that did its lesser-appreciated sequel... Though the same script-writer was used for both (Daive Cohen).
Now, my only question, from what I have seen (extracts and trailers and previews) is actually... What is the target audience? Maybe it will clear up when I get to see the movie but this is all framed and sold as a kid-friendly entertainment, it even being an "all-public" movie to which families are supposed to be able to bring their kids but... a lot of the jokes I have seen are typical of adult things. I mean there's a lot of sex jokes for example, which made me think originally this was an adult movie, but then it also kind of is framed and written as a kid-level comedy and... Yeah this leaves me a bit confused. Just take the movie's poster, at the top of the post... You can't tell me there isn't a big sexual innuendo in the way the prince "rides" Cinderella! And yet it is sold as a movie kids can go watch and that isn't for a more mature audience? Anyway, I do not have a lot to say, since I haven't seen the movie, but I wanted to make a "preparation" post for when I will get to see it.
(I will just add that while some of the jokes I have seen do seem really bad - like a certain joke about a character's throat which was used already in Les Visiteurs 3 and seems really out of place in a kid movie, clearly taken from the Men in Black - some actually made me laugh. Most notably there is a great slapstick moment you can glimpse in the trailer where the Lady Tremaine-like stepmother just... headbutts Cinderella for speaking to her. I did quite like this joke as it subverts the pose and subtle threat of the Disney-wickedstepmother, while also clearly dedramatizing the violence into a goofy, cartoonish way. But that's just me.)

The Lancaster County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help in finding two people who viciously attacked an Indian Land Chipotle employee earlier this month.
Jamel Bernard Williams, 36, and Kayla Nicole Pyle, 34,  both from Charlotte, were identified as suspects, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies responded to the violent encounter just after 9 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 10 along Charlotte Highway where they spoke to the 20-year-old victim and witnesses. Both suspects had left the scene when deputies arrived.
The victim told deputies that an argument over an order arose between her and Pyle before she decided to end her shift early and go home. The victim said as she was leaving through one exit, Williams then entered the restaurant from another exit, pushed her on the floor and began hitting her, pulling her hair, and jerking her around. Pyle soon joined Williams, hitting the victim.
A male juvenile was with Pyle and Williams, but he has not been identified and will not be charged, according to deputies.
The victim said she was in pain but declined treatment at the scene, according to deputies.  She sought treatment on her own after the incident.  The extent of her injuries is unknown.
A witness gave police a description of the Dodge Charger the suspects left in and a tag number.  Store video and video taken by a witness were also provided.
Williams and Pyle were identified with the assistance of personnel of the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, deputies said.
Arrest warrants were issued for Williams and Pyle on Wednesday, Dec. 27, deputies said. Williams is charged with first-degree assault and battery, and Pyle is charged with second-degree assault and battery.
“I don’t know what was said between Pyle and the victim, but the victim was leaving for home and was chased down from behind by Williams and attacked in the dining room of the restaurant,” Sheriff Barry Faile said.  “The assault was completely unjustified.  I hope the victim has recovered from her injuries.  I appreciate the help we got from Charlotte Mecklenburg PD to identify Williams and Pyle, and I encourage them to turn themselves in and let the judicial system run its course in this case.”
Anyone with information about this or any other case should call the Lancaster County Sheriff’s Office at 803-283-3388 and select Option 4.

Following three generations of East New Yorkers; a debut, coming-of-age novel that mixes magical realism and the Southern Gothic--for readers of Jesmyn Ward and Jamel Brinkley.
Taking place over thirty years, We Are a Haunting follows a family of East New Yorkers struggling to maintain a connection to their history. Grandma Audrey, herself a living ancestor among the speaking dead, is about to lose her apartment; her indelible and vivacious daughter Key dies young after serving the Black women of her neighborhood, leaving behind a grieving son, Colly, who holds deep-seated disdain for a community to which he has no choice but to be accountable.
Going back to the '80s, we see Key's life consisting of nightclubs and enchantment. While training as a doula, she discovers that for her, the dead are much closer than expected and learns how to speak both to and for them, forming a connection between passed and living family members. After her death, Colly soon discovers that he shares the same sacred gift his mother had.
His expulsion from school forces Colly across town, where he forges an understanding of how friendship, family, and community foster love in places where it may seem inherently and systemically impossible. After college, Colly returns to East New York to work with community organizers addressing structural neglect and the crumbling NYCHA blocks; to do what he can for the people that mean the most to him.
With a singular combination of urban fiction, the supernatural, and social critique, Tyriek White depicts the palpable, breathing essence of outer borough New York City with lyricism and deep significance.

This is Judge Peter Cahill. A few months ago, he released Jamel Hill-Moore (41) back onto the streets.
Hill-Moore was sentenced to 21 months in prison over domestic abuse, but this judge granted him a stay.
Last week, Hill-Moore stabbed and kiIIed Meredith Martell in her bed.
Judge Peter Cahill is the same judge who sentenced Derek Chauvin to 22.5 years.
Below is he is pictured. He admitted that his rulings are all guided by racial justice…

shout out to matt rogers for this delightful new entry to the xmas song canon
📚 STUFF I READ 📚
🥰 Bookshops & Bonedust (Legends & Lattes #0) (Travis Baldree, author & narrator) - prequel novel of Viv's much younger days - just as fun and cozy as Legends & Lattes
🥰 Hashtag Soulmates (everwitch) - 44K, RWRB AU - deliberately tropetastic sort-of meta fic where Henry's a fanfic writer & Alex is one of his biggest fans and they work together but don't know it. Hard to explain but fun to read. Good stuff on the nature of fanfic; also hilarious bits where it walks right up to the crackfic line but doesn't go over. I really enjoyed reading something the author so clearly had a blast writing.
😊 In the Form of a Question: The Joys and Rewards of a Curious Life (Amy Schneider, author & narrator) - entertaining read
😍 Tommy Cabot Was Here (The Cabots #1) (Cat Sebastian) - reread, novella; just really in a mood to reread in this universe! Hadn't read this since I read Daniel's book, so it was fun to see him guest star as a 12 yr old
😍 Peter Cabot Gets Lost (The Cabots #2) (Cat Sebastian) - reread; I love all the Cabots but this one is my #1 fave by a smidge. The grumpy/sunshine is *chef's kiss*!
😍 Daniel Cabot Puts Down Roots (The Cabots #3) (Cat Sebastian) - reread; Alex & Daniel are actually dating but too oblivious (and busy pining in silence) to realize it. I love these dumbasses.
😍 Luke and Billy Finally Get a Clue (The Cabots #3.5) (Cat Sebastian) - reread, set in the Cabots 'verse but with no Cabots in sight. Just two baseball boys pulling their heads out of their asses and figuring out what they mean to one another.
💖💖 +102K of shorter fic 💖💖

I don't usually do CAS challenges but I saw the #OneBigSimsFamily challenge by grenesims on Twitter and I felt inspired. So, I'm formally introducing you all to The Richmond Family. Details on this cute family below - pictures are in order of the challenge days!
San Sequoia finds it's very own power couple in Johnathan and Yvette Richmond - a husband and wife dream team in the custom home build and remodel market. The two have been married for more than 30 years and, while they hoped their children would take interest in the family business, they've enjoyed watching their kids forge their own paths in life.
Tumblr media
Oldest son, Quentin, is a lovable engineer who became a single dad after his girlfriend took off following the birth of their 2nd child. She decided that she wasn't ready to be settled down with children yet. Quentin was heartbroken, as he had just bought them a house and had plans to propose, but he's done his best to hold it together for his kids. His son, Jamel, is still grieving his mother's disappearance and a part of him can't help but to be angry at his dad (believing he may have done more to push his mom away than he lets on). Meanwhile, little sister Mila has a more positive outlook on life, not really having a memory of their mother anyway. Mila adores the theater and singing but Quentin, while he is supportive of her dreams, can't help but be saddened by how much her voice sounds like hers mother's.

Daughter Kyra's household looks a little differently. Kyra is the stay-at-home mother to triplets - so that means she's working harder than us all. Between taking Chandler to soccer and track practice, helping straight A Casey with extra credit projects she doesn't need (but insists on doing), having almost weekly meetings with the school about Cameron's behavior, and of course doing all the cooking snd cleaning - she's utterly exhausted. She'd love it if her husband Lawson helped her out more, but he claims to always be busy with work. Kyra is starting to fear that something more than work is keeping him away...
Tumblr media
The three youngest Richmond children don't currently have any families of their own to care for, but their lives keep them busy enough. Son Deonte lives in Del Sol Valley and is doing his best to stand out in the hustle and bustle of the entertainment industry. He dreams of joining the ranks of acting greats like Simzel Washington and wants to be a role model to other Black LGBT+ aspiring actors. Sometimes his work keeps him busy and so he doesn't get to come home to San Sequioa as much as his family would like. His sister, Camille, on the other hand, is known as the Cool Auntie. Living in San Myshuno and working as a DJ, Cam finds time in between juggling gigs (and juggling women) to visit home and hangout with her nieces and nephews. Lastly, baby sister Jordan is still living at home having recently finished college (she didn't want to go to college but her parents forced her to). Jordan has no interest in working for anybody and that's why, during her senior year of college, she launched her own online clothing boutique. Jordan has a few guys interested in her, but she's too focused on scaling her business to be worried about dating. She's currently saving up to get her own apartment AND get her own brick & mortar location for her boutique.

Note: Kyra's husband, Lawson, is included in the family photo for story purposes but he's not part of the challenge and is a sim from the gallery.

Jamelle Bouie does a good job of underscoring just how fed up Justice Elena Kagan is with the decisions coming from the right-wing justices on the court, and why she questions the constitutionality of Roberts' majority opinion in Biden v. Nebraska (the student loan forgiveness case). Here are some excerpts from Bouie's NY Times newsletter:
But I don’t want to discuss Roberts’s majority opinion [in Biden v. Nebraska] as much as I do Justice Elena Kagan’s dissent. Kagan wrote something unusual. She didn’t just challenge the chief justice’s reasoning, she questioned whether the court’s decision was even constitutional. “From the first page to the last, today’s opinion departs from the demands of judicial restraint,” Kagan wrote. “At the behest of a party that has suffered no injury, the majority decides a contested public policy issue properly belonging to the politically accountable branches and the people they represent.” She continued: “That is a major problem not just for governance, but for democracy too. Congress is of course a democratic institution; it responds, even if imperfectly, to the preferences of American voters. And agency officials, though not themselves elected, serve a President with the broadest of all political constituencies. But this Court? It is, by design, as detached as possible from the body politic. That is why the Court is supposed to stick to its business — to decide only cases and controversies, and to stay away from making this Nation’s policy about subjects like student-loan relief.” The court, Kagan concluded, “exercises authority it does not have. It violates the Constitution.” [...] Kagan’s dissent, in other words, is a call for accountability. For Congress, especially, to exercise its authority to discipline the court when it oversteps its bounds. Democrats may or may not get this particular message. But John Roberts heard it loud and clear. “It has become a disturbing feature of some recent opinions to criticize the decisions with which they disagree as going beyond the proper role of the judiciary,” he wrote in his opinion. “It is important that the public not be misled either. Any such misperception would be harmful to this institution and our country.” For Roberts, the problem isn’t that the Supreme Court is overstepping its bounds, it’s that one of its justices has decided that she’s had enough. [emphasis added]

“We really haven't been in this situation in a long time,” she told media Thursday morning. “… But you know, all good things come to an end, and you know, basketball is cyclical, and I guess it's our turn to kind of be in this situation. And it's tough, but I've been really proud of this group. We've come here ready to compete every night. It doesn't always go our way, but we found a way to find little things that keep us motivated.”
Fellow former Husky Moriah Jefferson has joined Taurasi in the Mercury’s starting lineup this season. On Thursday, against the Sun, Jefferson finished with eight points and four assists in 29 minutes.
“Mo’s great,” Taurasi said. “I've always admired her from afar, you know, watching her in school, watching her first couple years in San Antonio and she had that unbelievable rookie year and I've just never met someone so dedicated. … The best has yet to come for Mo. I'm just so excited for her and her future here in Phoenix.”
Taurasi credits UConn’s standard of excellence, led by Geno Auriemma, to preparing players to thrive in the WNBA.
“It’s not about numbers. It's not about MVPs and All-Stars, are you affecting the game to where your team is better?” Taurasi said. “You see that with Dorka (Juhász), you see that with Ododa (Olivia Nelson-Ododa) here and obviously Tip (Tiffany Hayes) has been doing it forever. (I’m a) huge fan of Tiffany Hayes.”
On Thursday, Taurasi was asked what it’s been like for her to watch UConn these past two seasons deal with its recent string of injuries and bad luck.
“That's the game of basketball and sport,” she said. “You know, sometimes luck and fortune isn't on your side. And, you know, there's a lot of ‘What if this person was healthy? What if we had our whole team?’ And I've had plenty of conversations with Coach Auriemma and CD (Chris Dailey) and Morgan Valley and Jamelle (Elliott).
“There's still this mystique of this team, that hopefully will be healthy going into the season, has a chance to be one of the most exciting teams that we've ever seen. As a fan and obviously alumni now, I'm excited to see it too.”

Azure & Jamel 13
The family is growing! Y'all two infants at once was no joke. Here we have little Marina, who's joined the family, included in a family portrait. She got her daddy's hair color.
Poses are two from a set by @gunthermunch.

And post university life is being good to Jamel; he's put on a bit of weight. Dad life is hard.
They did this all on their own too. All I did was put Gianna in the back carrier. As a side note, I really loved this house I had them in. I think I saved it (pre me redecorating). I'll have to check.
