Another month in lockdown, another haul of books to share! I know it’s a few days later than my normal monthly literary round outs but it’s been rather hectic the last week so I haven’t gotten a round to it. May’s haul has included a short “Children-Style” book written by Simon Sinek simplifying his philosophy on leadership and organizations which made for a lovely birthday gift for me! 🎁 Book number 9 in the Sharpe series where Capt Sharpe is tasked with recovering Portuguese gold by Lord Wellington in the Peninsula War, Dostoyevsky’s classic novel about the inner psyche of a murderer in 19th century Russia, Dr Atul Gawande’s reflections on how those in the Health Care system can improve themselves on a personal and professional level. Another book by Canadian military historian Jack Granatstien about the Senior Officers who served Canada in the Second World War about their personalities, strengths, and flaws; and finally rounding off May was the biography of Capt Robert Lawrence MC of the Scots Guards who was shot in the head at the Battle of Tumbledown in the Falklands War and his rocky road to recovery. With the Covid restrictions winding down now finally and myself returning to work tomorrow with what is bound to be a high operational tempo, I foresee significantly less reading in my near future. Happy to be getting back into my normal routines and being around the troops again! 👌 #bookstagram #mayreads #coivdreads @simonsinek #simonsinek #TogetherisBetter #bernardcornwell #SharpesGold #fyodordostoyevsky #crimeandpunishment #atulgawande #Better #jackgranatstein #WeightofCommand #RobertLawrence #WhenTheFightingIsOver (at The Lookoff, Nova Scotia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBJpaWtnU_UGQPpSu-gD6gxFg3QM9XxXdS3xtc0/?igshid=c9kn4uaz26tf

Covid has finally stopped kicking our training resumption to the right and now we’re back into full swing Individual Training. We’ve got the Training Centre’s first Reg Force Decentralized BMQ, and the other night I had to break out my old beret I haven’t worn in a decade to show the troops how to get theirs formed up. I also thought my night duty shift would be a good chance to grab a pic for my monthly book post 👌 First month of 2022 for books read included a modern day professors take on how to live a good life through applying stoic philosophy, Matthew McConaughey’s super interesting and hilarious autobiography, Erwin Rommel’s Classic study of Infantry Tactics, An account of TF 1-07 (2RCR Battlegroup) tour in Afghanistan, and Jack Granatstien’s comprehensive study of the Canadian Army from colonial days to the Modern Era. 📚 #bookstagram #januaryreads #2022reads #2022readingchallenge #aguidetothegoodlife #WBIrvine #greenlightsbook #matthewmcconaughey #erwinrommel #infantryattacks #kandahartour #jackgranatstein #canadasarmy (at Aldershot, Nova Scotia) https://www.instagram.com/p/CZxmyBQJevUqX5CN5g1pDVwPUVItZktYR_zvNU0/?utm_medium=tumblr
