Here is another manga that I've read and really enjoyed recently. I forgot to post about it last week, but I got reminded to do so when I just found out that it's ending soon??? The unofficial translation goes to ch 85 (3 months ago), and the translator for it said it's ending around ch 95. It feels so early because the main characters and their friends entered college recently and it feels like it still has a lot of ground to cover??
Anyway, this manga is called "Last karte -Houjuuigakusha Touma Kenshou no Kioku-" which is roughly Last Medical Record -Memory of Forensic Vetrinarian Kensho Toma-. A description taken from MangaUpdates:
Kensho Toma is an ordinary high school student. One day, he comes across a large number of crows in the park that have died an unnatural death and ends up becoming a veterinarian trainee alongside one of his classmates after becoming involved in the investigation.
CW: animal death

My question is a bit weird but do you think that Vegeta knows about menstrual cycle , reproductive health,..stuff like that ?
( I just got my period and this thought just randomly popped out of my mind .)
I have literally thought about this before! Short answer: I think he does in a limited capacity.
I think that, while it's true he was never around any saiyans who menstruated as an adolescent or adult, he's not the sort to remain willfully ignorant about the biology of his own species. (I mean, he probably has to be aware of all different kinds of creatures' biology to know how to kill them, honestly.) Yes, he's really uncomfortable around anything to do with sex and reproduction. How could he NOT be, given that he's painfully aware he's the last of his kind, the only survivors not reproductively compatible with each other? But it's also precisely because of this fact that he'd eventually have to face and understand why this was the case.
There's no way he wouldn't be curious even if he tried to repress it. What other types of saiyans could be like. How their bodies worked. Particularly forbidden and mysterious because all of them were gone. (Something being impossible definitely tempts a fixation if it doesn't create one.) He probably asked in extremely indirect ways looking for answers (he would NEVER address it outright). Nappa and Raditz may have volunteered information or let little details slip. And...as dark as it is, I can imagine Freeza "educating" him about what he's lost. Little reminders or remarks here and there rubbing in Vegeta's face how he's the last of his bloodline.
All of that said, I don't think that saiyans menstruate in the exact same way humans do. For one, their planet and its moon certainly don't follow the same calendar as Earth. So their menstrual cycles may or may not line up with lunar cycles the way human ones do (roughly). Their biology probably adapted to their planet and their warrior lifestyle. I can imagine that a saiyan who trains very harshly or is in brutal wartime conditions might not menstruate at all (just like very athletic humans or humans under stressful conditions can stop menstruating).
On the other hand, though, I can also imagine that, like humans, saiyans generally have to be fertile pretty frequently in order to maintain their population due to the high death rate. There are several ways this can be the case. They can have a longer fertile window in their cycle. Ovulation itself could be responsive to certain kinds of sexual activity/fluid contact as it is with some animals on Earth. Or saiyans could have more control over when they are fertile than humans do, say, via intentional increased food intake that signals to their body that they are in safe enough conditions to risk a pregnancy. While I know it's popular in fanon, I don't think seasonal "heats" are very conducive to population maintenance---again, due to the selection pressure towards frequent fertile windows. A longer, less frequent window results in less fertile time overall, fewer opportunities.
So now with that considered, what does Vegeta know when he arrives on Earth? He probably knows that some saiyans menstruated sometimes. He knows what menstruation is and why it happens. He's aware of the dimorphic variations in saiyan bodies even if he avoided any kind of conversation or media that goes beyond perfunctory, practical details. It's a source of pain and loss for him even if he's not emotionally intuitive enough to understand that. He knows why he can't have children with any of his comrades and the mechanism behind it.
But at the same time, he's not necessarily going to assume that human bodies work exactly the same way as saiyan bodies. He's traveled all over the galaxy and seen lots of different species variations. Some of them humanoid (saiyanoid?) just like Earthlings are (I have a ton of headcanons about this). And their bodies are all a bit different from his even when they are similar.
So, say, if Bulma tells him that she's menstruating, he's not going to be shocked by it. He's not going to be totally lost. But he also probably isn't going to anticipate some of the little details about human menstruation. He's not going to know how long it lasts, for example. (Like, saiyans may have shed the uterine lining in a much quicker fashion when they did menstruate for practical reasons... So I can see him being a little surprised when human menstruation happens more gradually over a longer period.) He's not going to know how frequently it happens until he observes it or is told. He's not going to anticipate how painful and unpleasant the experience can be for an Earthling. He's not going to know any of the social cues around it. It probably wouldn't occur to him that many humans don't like having sex or engaging in certain sex acts while menstruating. He barely knows the social narratives around his own species menstruating, nevermind those of humans.
More generally, I'd conclude that Vegeta knows the basics of sexual health and reproduction. He knows how reproduction occurs for his species. He has a drive for sex and eventually figures out that those cravings and bodily responses are related to reproduction even if he avoids it as much as he can. (Though I can imagine the way he finds out that those responses are sexual might be less than ideal. His situation is fucked up in so many ways.) He'd have to face all of it eventually. He wouldn't remain in the dark about why he was the last of his kind whether because of his own need to understand and/or because it was being rubbed in his face constantly.

Hi! Do you have any adhd/asd stiles headcanons? They're always so fun to read!
ohmygosh hello!! boy do i have plenty of headcanons pertaining to autism ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)
(apologies in advance this is going to be incredibly self indulgent as a lot of these are based on ways autism shows up for me. i'll put a little "*" next to those!)
Tumblr media
Autisic Stiles Stilinski Headcanons
it was incredibly obvious that he was on the spectrum when he was growing up - he didnt always respond to his name when called, no eye contact with anyone aside from his mom and dad, had the same outfit in multiples because thats the only thing he felt comfortable wearing, stuff like that! since then he's expanded who he allows himself to make eye contact with like anyone from the pack but its pretty sporadic eye contact and not consistent
was in special education for a portion of elementary school until it was deemed he didnt quite need that anymore *
selective mutism - as a kid he rarely spoke more than a couple sentences throughout the span of a week and because of this he was taught ASL and still uses it when he experiences speech loss (the pack has taken it upon themselves to learn at least the basics to understand stiles when he switches over to that) also sidenote to any autistic people who may be reading this i highly recommend learning whatever version you have of sign language in your country its been such a positive change in my life its so worth learning!
hes a sensory seeker and sensory avoider but his most favorite textures are: rocks, sherpa, faux fur (only the soft and very short kind, water, bamboo fabric, sorta-wet dirt, door frames, beards (if any of the guys in the pack grow out their facial hair get ready for lots of pats from stiles), and the feeling of running his hands over his freshly-buzzed hair *
stims - his stims consist of popping his lips, shaking his head side to side, sucking in air, rolling his tongue, hand flapping, knee bouncing, swaying, spinning, humming, grunting, pacing, touching the textures he likes, having a particular song on repeat, pursing his lips, and laughing! the ones pertaining to age regression are: rattles, having a pacifier in his mouth, and the sound blocks make like getting tumbled over *
safe foods - he is an incredibly picky eater but has safe foods he either has had everyday for years now or some for special occasions: oatmeal, toast, curly fries, lemonade, grilled cheese, mac n cheese (are we seeing a theme here haha), ramen, any sort of veggie-meats, soup, any sort of snack that crunches like cheese itz goldfish veggie straws etc.
his bed - he likes his bed in a very particular way i'll even throw in a pic of the bed frame he has!
Tumblr media
he lines all the edges with stuffed animals and/or pillows and does not like having his bed made neat, he likes to keep it looking like a nest and hes very serious about that Noah knows better than to make his bed if he's ever tidying up around the house! he only sleeps with a jersey comforter and a 25lb weighted blanket and does not like laying his head on his pillow but rather hugging it so most nights he sleeps flat against the mattress *
outings - any sort of long outings is going to require a bag of sorts and stiles will often forget to bring such bag, his dad always brings it and makes sure to tell anyone he might be with (like Derek, Lydia, Scott etx) to bring The Bag ™ it consists of: noise canceling headphones, a couple of fidget toys, at least one small stuffed animal, his backup anxiety medication, sunglasses, and a change of the most sensory friendly clothes *

Writer Education Tag
THANK YOU @ashen-crest FOR THE TAG NOW I HAVE REASON TO SHARE A BUNCH OF THE WEIRD THINGS IVE HAD TO RESEARCH <3<3<3
Rules: Writers often have to research some pretty out-there stuff for our wips. What are some weird, unusual, or oddly specific things you’ve had to learn about or look into?
-- Turkish Reflex bows (construction materials, draw weights, differences from recurves, use in combat, how they're drawn (using the thumb instead of the forefingers) and also dips into variants from other cultures like iirc Mongolian archery) (Related fun fact: I've tried out archery a few times just to get an idea for how it feels!!) -- A Lot of weird animals for creature/fantasy race designs (Gharials, cowtail stingrays, phantom jellyfish, oarfish, orchid mantises, bronze parotia birds of paradise, gyr cattle, etc. etc. etc.) -- Legal terms for things like "this dude is standing in for someone who isn't here" and "knowing about a first degree murder before the fact and not stopping it" (pro tempore and accessory to [crime], respectively) which prompted deep dives into niche lawyer things of which only like 2% stuck in my brain -- Sign language!! And Language-Assisted Signs, because those are different a lot of the time and I wanted to know How and Why to portray Ash and Ice respectfully (Another related fun fact: half of my ASL research has been for use outside of writing, too, because I have Deaf family members. Also, I learned the ASL alphabet when I was 9 and that's come in clutch.) -- Speed of travel for different types of age-of-sail ships, and how to calculate that for a fantasy world where the routes are up to you and not currents of wind and water alike -- Altitude sickness/the Bends -- Ocular autohemmorrhaging (aka squirting blood out your eyes as a defense mechanism. lizards do this a lot) (this was for dragons) -- Differences in symptom presentation between Multiple Sclerosis and Transverse Myelitis (I determined that Lorelei has Multiple Sclerosis) -- Necrosis (Don't look this one up if you have a weak stomach) -- How bog bodies happen and work -- Rabies -- Different forms of paddle boats historically used for swampy navigation -- Traditional Chinese junk rigging, and how it was used in Sampan ships -- Gyroscopes and how they work/what they do/specifically the one in the plane that flew a telescope and had to keep it steady but the name of which ive forgotten -- Many Illegal Kinds Of Knives (did you know certain kinds of switchblades are illegal almost everywhere?? i didn't until semi recently. theyre some of the sexy ones too </3) -- How wing shape affects flight ability in birds -- How owl wings, specifically, are so Quiet (its the feather construction. i still dont quite get it but im tryin) -- Afrofuturistic architecture/the Afrofuturism movement as a whole -- Dancing swords/sabers with a specific focus on their grips and lack of hand guards, and the forms people used when fighting with them -- An Unreasonable amount of sewing techniques which I am now trying to make excuses for annie to reference. -- Fresco painting techniques (ended up not relevant) -- Marble sculpting techniques -- And of course a ton of research into PTSD, traumatic memory loss, OCD, the Autism + ADHD spectra (so i dont just copy-paste myself on everyone), Schizophrenia, etc. etc. for better/kinder portrayals
That is. By Far not an exhaustive list but yeah <3 i enjoy research and talking about the weird shit i learn solely through the hodgepodge of information axes i follow on the regular
I'll tag: @vacantgodling, @space-cadead, @sleepyowlwrites, @athena-anna-rose, and @comicgoblinart!! As always, absolutely 0 pressure to play if you dont want to, and this doubles as an open tag if you do!!

dead internet, gender ideology, and polarization
I think something finally clicked today. I just don’t know if I’ll be able to articulate it well. It’s going to cover the topics of political polarization, ruling classes and their relationships to technology, and how gender ideology has impacted counterculture.
As my past posts reflect, I’ve been feeling REALLY down - isolated and lonely especially. The internet feels wrong and its original magic gone.
The sense of community and connection is gone. Social media is infested with bots, but it doesn’t matter - it’s almost impossible to differentiate between the bots and the real people. But those people are the normies. The web used to be majority weirdos.
So where is everyone? Did the freaks start investing more in meatspace since the internet is a loss?
I think the answer is that we’re still here - we just can’t recognize each other for what we have become. We are all the monsters we see and hate. Political polarization has made us unbearable to one another.
I know I’m guilty - I’m an extremist to the extreme now:
Marxist, aka the boogeyman political belief system
Radical Feminist, one of the least popular and most demonized philosophies in existence today
Reached a peak of conspiracy theory belief so extreme I’m pretty much alone now
Refuse to consume new media, exceptionally picky about what I do consume
Borderline agoraphobic
This also means that I stand in opposition to one of the biggest weirdo magnets on the internet - Gender Ideology. I abandoned facebook years ago in part because it was closing in on every dumb little group I was in. This wasn’t a coincidence.
I thought it was an attack on women and feminism. I thought it was a reaction of inceldom and porn culture. But those are just the soil and fertilizer.
The seed was a psyop to destroy one of the greatest threats to the status quo - counterculture. Trans awareness and identity occupied and replace everything. Anarchism, punk, gay culture, feminism, anime. Those were my homes. But even just looking at that list, I can see trans flags waving behind the words, they’ve become so prominent within each subculture. And they’re even more prominent in a newer, extremely powerful counterculture - tech enthusiasts and hackers.
Internet represented so much more than a novel technology and everything we know it to be. But the ruling class has always known. It is the next iteration in energy transformation and ephemeralization. As always, the elite cannot control their power sources directly, they control others with the knowledge and skills to maintain their sources of power. They knew they would need loyal or neutral technologists to ensure this newfound power would be wielded for the benefit of the elite and no one else.
Hackers represented an existential threat to the elite. Even they didn’t know the power they held at that time, or they might have acted more directly to educate others with what they knew. They challenged the monopolization of this new power source, not based on their own lack of power or lust for it, but based on a challenge to the ownership of knowledge and data itself. These were people that would be harder to co-opt and tempt the traditional ways. So they had them all raided, arrested, and aggressively litigated against since the beginning of their existence.
This didn’t just represent a shut-down of an opportunity for the power structure to be challenged - this represented a segment of males who had not been traditionally successful as males being cut off from a refuge. They could have their tech, but they couldn’t use it to challenge the structure that oppressed them.
This is getting ramble-y.
We’re all trying to escape. We’re suffocating, we feel the boot on our neck, but we don’t know who to blame because we’re taught to not look them in the eye. There’s no hope for redemption of society. There’s no hope for a future when our planet is dying. We have no hope of notoriety except through social ostracization via cancel culture if we speak against the status quo.
So we retreat. We retreat into our fandoms, ourselves, and into navel-gazing games. Trans idealogues are playing make believe in a world they have built while the world burns because they already felt the boot and this was the best they could figure out to do. Try to escape misogyny, try to escape toxic masculinity, and flog anyone who says you can’t.
But it’s decaying. Our culture is getting worse. Higher media is suffering because of tiktok culture, shortened attention spans, and bite-sized clips of every emotion cranked up to the extreme.
What does any of this have to do with the Dead Internet? All the souls that would be gathering on this magical cyberspace are still here but our minds are poisoned and we are alienated away form everyone but ourselves and those who agree with everything we say. And virtually everyone is guilty.

What are your top 5 favorite anime?
Princess Tutu - gorgeous in every way, a story that does the concept of a multilayered narrative justice while also using the beauty of ballet and fairy tales to their full emotional advantages, and also the name helps gatekeep, because if you can't get past the name you aren't the sort of person who would enjoy it anyway. I can't recommend it highly enough. Available here
Kill la Kill - amazing and energetic animation, a unique story with a surprising family theme, and probably the coolest modern take on the delinquent girl archetype. I did resist watching it at first because of the lack of under-boob support on Ryuko's outfit, but honestly, it no longer bothers me. There are valid story reasons behind all the costume designs. Again, this has the beneficial side-effect of automatic gatekeeping. Available here
Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters - peak early 2000s character design, tons of merchandising money to fund legitimately good filler arcs and hire high quality animation directors (sometimes), a hero that actually has the worst win-loss record of all the protagonists of his franchise (but still retains the largest fanbase and greatest admiration for his skills and personal character), multiple engaging character arcs, and my personal favorite. This is the one most affected by nostalgia. YGO was my first fandom outside of Disney, the first thing I was really into that neither my parents nor my younger sister cared about, and it remains incredibly important to me. It took me 10 years to be able to watch the final two seasons, as my local channel for some reason decided to only play the first 2.5 seasons over and over. Those final seasons were not at all disappointing either; I loved them entirely, even with all their flaws and animation issues. I'd never claim that YGO is perfect, especially since I prefer the 4Kids dub to the original; yet even the subbed version, which I have also seen, has issues as a story. The original manga is superior to BOTH versions, if we're being honest. But this anime is amazing, fun, wholesome (without being lame, particularly the sub; the dub can be pretty lame) and long without being impossible to finish. The dub is available here (w, x, y, z), but to get the subbed version, you either have to pay through the nose or search the bowels of the Internet. Might as well try the dub: even if you don't like 4Kids, you can have fun laughing at them, and all the changes the dub made were meticulously catalogued here.
Dragon Ball - one of the best shonen ever, with an amazing world, strong characters that stay simple without being simpletons, and a slow, savory pace that makes every fight pop. I binged the entire (subbed) show in March 2020 when I had to stay home during the initial lockdown. It was exactly the cheery, grounded, fun shot in the arm that I needed when things were still uncertain and scary in my world. While I enjoy Z and parts of Super, the original is far better: more consistent in quality, pacing, and relevant themes. It's here and here right now. If you're already a fan, Totally Not Mark has some huge video essays reviewing both the entire franchise arc-by-arc and analyzing the major characters of the franchise. (The Buu arc review features Team Four Star ^_^)
Akage no Anne - one of the best works of World Masterpiece Theater and directed by future Studio Ghibli director Isao Takahata; a picture-perfect adaptation of Anne of Green Gables made for Japanese ESL education that managed to capture the pace, feelings, and gradual growth of its cast. With dreamy sequences to represent Anne's imagination and mirror the long descriptive passages of the book, the series grounds itself with simple and realistic character designs that change slowly over the course of the series to reflect the passing of time. It's from 1979, so it's even less fancy looking than Dragon Ball (1986), and Anne's initial design looks a bit awkward since she's pretty awkward and underfed at the start. But don't be fooled. Not only is this the closest adaptation I've seen to the book, but it manages to reflect Anne's rich, emotional inner world without relying on narration or a diary. It uses silence in a very mature way. Although Akage no Anne was not at all the beginning of Japan's love affair with Anne Shirley, it has become a cornerstone of that fandom in Japan. And if you love Isao Takahata's work like I do, seeing one of his earliest works is a pure joy. It's actually available on YouTube; this version has been up for 7 years straight, but I'd urge anyone interested to watch it sooner rather than later. You never know when a YT anime playlist will disappear.
Honorable Mention: Maison Ikkoku - this is one of my favorite manga, one I liked enough to collect in full and read multiple times. The anime is beautiful, and unlike some adaptations of Rumiko's work, it doesn't delve into alternate characterizations or themes. It's an iconic 1980s anime and I love what I've seen of it. But I can't put it higher because I've never been able to see all of it. Occasionally I've been able to watch episodes on YouTube with French subs, but I'm not fluent in French, so I only know what's going on because I'm so familiar with the manga. I still recommend it as a mature seinen romance/comedy. If anyone knows where I can watch or legally obtain it, I'd be very grateful.

25 Years of Childhood, Kids Show Arthur Finally Ends.
Tumblr media
'Arthur is based on the children’s books written and illustrated by Marc Brown. It is set in the fictional city of Elwood City. Each episode teaches children about development, friendships and valuable life lessons.'
Many adults who grew up watching Arthur praised the show for diversity and the lessons they learnt from this group of children growing up and making memories. But how did the show Arthur succeed in creating so many episodes?
Often, educational programmes before Arthur aired in 1996 were mostly live action entertainment until the entirely animated tv show The Magic School Bus in 1994. Arthur was accessible on most televisions, and carefully balanced entertainment with educational lessons.
'Arthur created a space where kids’ opinions, feelings, and experiences mattered. The storylines and dialogue never belittled nor condescended to its audience, but instead honoured the high emotional stakes of its characters’ circumstances. The plot was viewed from an authentic child lens, while still offering the wisdom of an adult through its conclusive life lessons.'
Writer Marc Brown believed that 'children are owed the truth' about life and experiences, not flashed in pretty colours and presented through rose tinted glasses. Different children lead different lives and they all deserve to be understood and represented, each child is an individual and should 'believe in yourself' as the intro theme repeats before every episode. Some experience extreme trauma, some have an unforgettable embarrassing moment but the most important part is that this is normalised.
Arthur never strayed away from discussing how to deal with the topics of the time, an episode was released following the events of September 11th teaching children how to deal with tragedy and loss, whereas episodes released during the Covid-19 pandemic discussed the importance of handwashing and wearing a mask.
Sometimes children need to develop their emotional intelligence and empathy, and watching a show where their favourite characters experience difficulties, challenges or even have happy moments teaches children important lessons on how everyone copes differently to life. Emotional intelligence is better taught through examples rather than being told by the book, and this is what the show provided for many years and many episodes.

autodesk 3d printing
3D printing is a pretty interesting connected with manufacturing technology that is definitely starting to alter the way that we look at creating things, on any scale. Whether you are a a part of a huge marketing firm, or you are a consumer working via his or her garage, you can have access to 3D marketing. What can autodesk Activation Key Free do? Well, frankly, it can create strategies. These things that are designed range from toys, to complex parts for machinery, to character models, to jewelry, to whatever! 3D printing produce virtually in any respect. Before I jump into what may possibly make, let's discuss what takes place when referring to creating a print through 3D printing. Revolve allows a polyline to revolve around a center axis. For curved 3D surfaces extrude doesn't work, but revolve will. One particular my favorite commands for 3D CAD is the circular pattern command. You'll find it works for 2D drawing, but it will really come in useful when designing 3D models. With this command you consider any feature on your design, copy it additional areas on an axis you choose, revolve them 360 degrees, and decide how perhaps you want it placed. Each of the copied features are equally spaced permitting precise fashion styles. It saves tons of time from having to measure certain angles, and dimensions. While autodesk Cracked as Flash can be used primarily moves 2d animation, there can easily couple of 3D powerhouses in plan world. Fat loss those powerhouses is 3D studio max or 3Dsmax for immediate. autodesk Crack around 3Ds max is that it is very new in order to. So if in order to novice just getting started, you could have better luck with package than others out now there. The company behind 3Dsmax is autodesk and tend to be huge involving 3D international. A lot of video games are along with 3D studio max. As the CAD manager, I would sit and take notes in these meetings, while trying to balance a coffee, diet coke and a donuts from my lap. Lone issue that arises an hour and a half, everybody had their say. Although I had been ton of notes, had been just details pointing to the issue. The problem was surprisingly simple, the drawings weren't coordinated. What you will be looking for is the cost of the computer, local disk size, and also the amount of memory naturally installed on the computer. You will also strive to be able to inflate the quantity memory the computer will allow because occasion the program upgrades will dictate exactly how much memory you'll need. Person 1: "Well, my offer offered should take it for free, so I took the game. I didn't find it very hard and it didn't really apply to my perform. It was kind of stupid considering it doesn't really evaluate beneficial ? a person is at Revit, but its made for just about any good resume builder". Remember greatest idea . when firms had drawing checkers? It seems that nobody checks drawings anymore; there possibly be no amount of the schedule or expense. Now we call that process bidding. It sure will make the construction guys angry. We become sensitive about our design work, nonetheless they get sensitive when money is involved. Some people are just so materialistic. The second step to fix the Ac1st16.dll errors on your own own PC will be always to use a software program known as a 'registry cleaner'. These are tools in order to scan together with registry database of your system and fix the various errors in which inside. The registry is being was considered to help Windows run as smoothly as possible, since contains all the files and settings your pc uses in order to operate. Inside this database is kept an incredible list of DLL files which are continually being often help your load the files continuing education. Unfortunately, this list of files is actually being damaged - leading your system to show DLL errors. To fix this, you will have to be willing to use a registry cleaner program to repair any for this problems your registry would like. Performing these steps should resolve the error for decent.

3. Jack & Mayka Conservationist & Linguist Photographed by Matt Horwood Tell us something about yourself that nobody else knows. Mayka: Before reading a new book I always read its very last page just before I start from the beginning. And, in case you were wondering, I've never been less surprised by the ending. By the time I get to the end I've already forgotten what I've read!
Jack: I’m a pretty open person, so there’s not a lot people don’t know, but maybe… I occasionally eat raw garlic while preparing dinner, apparently it’s good for you!
What do you enjoy doing in your own time?  Jack: My main hobby is wildlife watching, with a focus on birds. I love to spend the day out on a new reserve and see what wonderful creatures live there. On a rainy day you’ll usually find me inside playing punishingly difficult video games.
Mayka: In my free time I usually do various things including; going for a walk in the countryside, spending time with friends... etc. But occasionally when inspiration strikes I love sketching and painting beautiful creatures. Especially beetles.
Tell us a bit about where you are from and what impact where you grew up had on you. Mayka: I am from a tiny isolated mountain village in the south of Spain. I grew up surrounded by nature which allowed me to understand the importance of what earth has to offer in a very intimate way. I am not only talking about food and other resources but also activities and lifestyle. My vision of the 'modern' world is full of wonder, I remember the first time I went in a lift!!
Jack: I grew up in a semi rural part of North Wales, so have grown up surrounded by natural beauty. Growing up around such easily accessible natural splendour has given me the start I needed to get into nature-watching as a full time interest.
If you had to pick one thing, what are you most passionate about?Jack: Seeing new animals, I love experiencing a behaviour or action from an animal I’ve never seen before, be that the hoot of an owl, or a grass snake swimming across a pond. I believe there is so much value in the observation of the natural world, both for science and personal well-being.
Mayka: Having studied Translation I've developed a great passion for not only languages but also different cultures. For that reason one of my greatest challenges in life is to influence people around me and make them reflect about the importance of cultural awareness and diversity.
What makes you angry?  Mayka: Once again, having a background in languages and communication, I find particularly infuriating when issues are not addressed properly due to the fear of sounding politically incorrect. I read somewhere that what is not talked about does not exist... and I wish there were more accurate ways of talking about and describing social issues such as male violence against women.
Jack: The destruction and over exploitation of the natural world around us. It angers me to think of the sheer abundance and diversity of wildlife the world and more specifically the UK, used to hold, and the reasons that it’s not like that anymore.
If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be?Jack: Easy! More wildlife, more land given over to the protection of species, more money and thought put towards causes that help relieve biodiversity loss.
Mayka: I am a fervent believer in the importance of education as a means to tackle many (if not all) of the world's inherently social problems. Including the impact these problems have on the environment.
Do you feel connected to nature and/or wildlife and if so, tell us a bit about when you first found an interest or felt connected. Mayka: I feel connected to nature since as long as I can remember. One of my first memories is digging out a nest of worms with my bare foot in an attempt to climb up a little hill just by my parents' house. Not the most popular creature but I have always been drawn to invertebrates. They are just so different to us mammals.
Jack: I definitely feel connected to nature, and I have been from a young age. My mother always encouraged my interest in animals when I was a child by finding me biological field guides (‘I used to just look at the pictures). One strong memory I have is visiting RSPB Conwy as a child and being encouraged to find ‘mini beasts’ by one of the volunteers. After finding a ladybird the volunteer explained it’s life cycle and how it fits into an ecosystem and it’s importance to other organisms. ***
Dywedwch rywbeth amdanoch eich hun nad oes neb arall yn ei wybod. Mayka: Cyn darllen llyfr newydd rydw i bob amser yn darllen ei dudalen olaf un cyn i mi ddechrau o'r dechrau. A, rhag ofn eich bod chi'n pendroni, dwi erioed wedi synnu cymaint gan y diweddglo. Erbyn i mi gyrraedd y diwedd dwi wedi anghofio be dwi wedi darllen yn barod!
Jack: Dwi’n berson reit agored, felly does dim llawer o bobl ddim yn gwybod, ond falle… dwi’n bwyta garlleg amrwd o bryd i’w gilydd wrth baratoi swper, mae’n debyg ei fod yn dda i chi!
Beth ydych chi'n mwynhau ei wneud yn eich amser eich hun? Jack: Fy mhrif hobi yw gwylio bywyd gwyllt, gyda ffocws ar adar. Rwyf wrth fy modd yn treulio'r diwrnod allan ar warchodfa newydd a gweld pa greaduriaid hyfryd sy'n byw yno. Ar ddiwrnod glawog byddwch fel arfer yn dod o hyd i mi y tu mewn yn chwarae gemau fideo anodd iawn.
Mayka: Yn fy amser rhydd rydw i fel arfer yn gwneud pethau amrywiol gan gynnwys; mynd am dro yng nghefn gwlad, treulio amser gyda ffrindiau… ac ati. Yn enwedig chwilod.
Dywedwch ychydig wrthym am o ble rydych chi'n dod a pha effaith gafodd lle cawsoch eich magu arnoch chi. Mayka: Rwy'n dod o bentref mynyddig bychan yn ne Sbaen. Cefais fy magu wedi fy amgylchynu gan natur a oedd yn caniatáu i mi ddeall pwysigrwydd yr hyn sydd gan ddaear i'w gynnig mewn ffordd agos iawn. Nid yn unig yr wyf yn sôn am fwyd ac adnoddau eraill ond hefyd am weithgareddau a ffordd o fyw. Mae fy ngweledigaeth o'r byd 'modern' yn llawn rhyfeddod, dwi'n cofio'r tro cyntaf i mi fynd mewn lifft!!
Jack: Cefais fy magu mewn rhan lled wledig o Ogledd Cymru, felly rwyf wedi tyfu i fyny wedi fy amgylchynu gan harddwch naturiol. Mae tyfu i fyny o gwmpas y fath ysblander naturiol hygyrch wedi rhoi'r cychwyn yr oedd ei angen arnaf i fynd i mewn i wylio natur fel diddordeb llawn amser.
Pe bai'n rhaid i chi ddewis un peth, beth ydych chi'n angerddol amdano fwyaf? Jack: Wrth weld anifeiliaid newydd, rydw i wrth fy modd yn profi ymddygiad neu weithred gan anifail nad ydw i erioed wedi’i weld o’r blaen, boed yn hŵt tylluan, neu’n neidr laswellt yn nofio ar draws pwll. Rwy’n credu bod cymaint o werth mewn arsylwi’r byd naturiol, o ran gwyddoniaeth a lles personol.
Mayka: Ar ôl astudio Cyfieithu rydw i wedi datblygu angerdd mawr nid yn unig at ieithoedd ond hefyd am ddiwylliannau gwahanol. Am y rheswm hwnnw un o fy heriau mwyaf mewn bywyd yw dylanwadu ar bobl o'm cwmpas a gwneud iddynt fyfyrio am bwysigrwydd ymwybyddiaeth ddiwylliannol ac amrywiaeth.
Beth sy'n eich gwylltio? Mayka: Unwaith eto, gyda chefndir mewn ieithoedd a chyfathrebu, mae'n gynhyrfus iawn pan nad yw materion yn cael sylw priodol oherwydd yr ofn o swnio'n wleidyddol anghywir. Darllenais yn rhywle nad yw'r hyn na sonnir amdano yn bodoli… a hoffwn pe bai ffyrdd mwy cywir o drafod a gwahaniaethu ar faterion cymdeithasol megis trais gwrywaidd yn erbyn menywod.
Jack: Dinistrio a gor-fanteisio ar y byd naturiol o'n cwmpas. Mae’n fy nghythruddo i feddwl am y doreth ac amrywiaeth o fywyd gwyllt y byd ac yn fwy penodol y DU, a arferai ddal, a’r rhesymau pam nad felly y mae bellach.
Pe gallech chi newid un peth am y byd, beth fyddai hwnnw? Jack: Hawdd! Mwy o fywyd gwyllt, mwy o dir yn cael ei roi i warchod rhywogaethau, mwy o arian a meddwl tuag at achosion sy'n helpu i leddfu colli bioamrywiaeth.
Mayka: Rwy'n gredwr brwd ym mhwysigrwydd addysg fel ffordd o fynd i'r afael â llawer (os nad y cyfan) o broblemau cynhenid gymdeithasol y byd. Gan gynnwys yr effaith a gaiff y problemau hyn ar yr amgylchedd.
Ydych chi'n teimlo'n gysylltiedig â natur a/neu fywyd gwyllt ac os felly, dywedwch ychydig wrthym am bryd y daethoch o hyd i ddiddordeb gyntaf neu pan wnaethoch deimlo cysylltiad. Mayka: Rwy'n teimlo'n gysylltiedig â natur ers cyn belled ag y gallaf gofio. Un o fy atgofion cyntaf yw cloddio nyth o fwydod gyda fy nhroed noeth mewn ymgais i ddringo i fyny bryn bach ger tŷ fy rhieni. Nid y creadur mwyaf poblogaidd ond rwyf bob amser wedi cael fy nhynnu at infertebratau. Maen nhw mor wahanol i ni mamaliaid.
Jack: Rwy'n bendant yn teimlo'n gysylltiedig â natur, ac rwyf wedi bod ers yn ifanc iawn. Roedd fy mam bob amser yn annog fy niddordeb mewn anifeiliaid pan oeddwn yn blentyn trwy ddod o hyd i ganllawiau maes biolegol i mi (‘Roeddwn i’n arfer edrych ar y lluniau yn unig). Un atgof cryf sydd gennyf yw ymweld ag RSPB Conwy yn blentyn a chael fy annog i ddod o hyd i ‘bwystfilod bach’ gan un o’r gwirfoddolwyr. Ar ôl dod o hyd i fuwch goch gota esboniodd y gwirfoddolwr ei gylch bywyd a sut mae’n ffitio i mewn i ecosystem a’i bwysigrwydd i organebau eraill.

Nature's Biggest and Oldest Creatures: SOS.
Welcome to Sense of Science, week four. Now that you’ve had a second to process our last round of mind-boggling discoveries, we’ll crank your knowledge about the natural world up again to yet another level. This week in the scientific news cycle? What might be the largest bony fish in history, the wavering fate of a celebrity emu, and a nearly 5,000 year-old tree.
This week what might be the largest sunfish to have ever been discovered was found near a seashore in the Azores area of the Atlantic. The gigantic creature weighed about as much as a triple-row American SUV. Scientists were initially skeptical when they were told of the size of the fish, but after seeing it predicted that it might be the biggest bony fish of any kind, ever seen. The animal weighed a whopping 6,000 pounds and was over ten feet in length. It’s already been confirmed to be the heavy bony fish ever weighed. Bony fish take up 90% of all fish species and have more of a traditional skeleton rather than a cartilaginous interior (like sharks and rays). The largest fish of any kind is the whale shark, a cartilaginous fish found in all of the world’s tropical oceans. Fish close to the size of the gigantic specimen found in Azores are reportedly increasingly difficult to find, due to widespread environmental issues like habitat loss and overfishing.

A TikTok and Instagram star named Emmanuel (who happens to be an emu) has come down with a case of avian influenza (commonly known as bird flu). Emmanuel first went viral earlier this year for a series of videos in which he could be seen pecking his owner’s phone camera while she recorded educational videos about the farm where she raises him and other birds (the majority of which the owner, Taylor Blake, says have already been wiped out by the illness). Blake says that although Emmanuel has a long road towards recovery, he’s a fighter. Emmanuel’s case follows a months-long outbreak of bird flu in the United States that agriculture officials have referred to as the most costly animal health emergency ever. Blake says she believes the outbreak on her own farm came from flocks of wild Egyptian geese who she suspects spread it to her animals. Whatever the outcome of his illness, Emmanuel the Emu will undoubtedly be remembered as the most entertaining emu of the digital age.

The New York Times profiled a group of Great Basin bristlecone pine trees in California’s alpine desert that have been living for 4,8000 years. To put that in perspective, they’re older than the Egyptian or Maya pyramids, Jesus or Christianity, and the Roman Empire. Most impressively perhaps, they live in a part of California called the White Mountains, where not much else is known to survive. The species of pines is only found in Nevada, Utah, and California, and their natural sanctuary in the White Mountains region is fittingly referred to as the Ancient Bristlecone Pine Forest. California’s trees are known as pretty incredible as a whole, and the state has not only the oldest but also the tallest and largest trees in the entire world. The tallest individual, standing higher than the Statue of Liberty, has been given the name Hyperion (after a mythic Greek Titan). The largest specimen in terms of overall volume is General Sherman (after the Union Army general), a giant sequoia living in a Californian sanctuary of its own species, the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park. The oldest bristlecone is thought to be Methuselah (the oldest biblical figure? Duh.) currently on its casual 4,855th year of age.

Special thanks to The New York Times and The Washington Post for their continued coverage of these stories that deepen our appreciation for our planet and the life on it. We’ll see you next week.

THE GUN FACTORY THE MINT  STAMPA’S SHOP
I went, one morning, with Mr. Taylor, to see the gun-factory, at Tophane. The buildings are beautifully situated on the very edge of the Bosphorus; and the capabilities for carrying out the manufacture of every part of a perfect piece of artillery, including the carriage, of first-rate order. One of the directors — a Pacha — was on the premises; he spoke English, having been educated at Woolwich; and was superintending the paving with wood of a portion of the factory, after the English fashion. All the works for turning, boring, polishing, stamping, &c., were in full activity; some of the cannon were of an enormous size; larger, indeed, than any I remember to have seen at home. The engines and machinery at work had been made by Maudsley and Nasmyth of Manchester; and put up under Mr. Taylor’s superintendence, lie gave the Turkish workmen a good character for intelligence • and a wish to oblige; certainly, they all appeared civil, and anxious to follow his directions.
Outside the factory a poor old mangy dog was lying asleep in the sun. I was told that he was a sort of pensioner on the establishment, and treated with great respect. To ensure this, fear and love had equal force. For a careless soldier had once cut at him with a sword, for which he was imprisoned, by the Sultan’s orders, until the animal got well again ; and since that day, it may be supposed that he had never been in any way molested.
Crossed over to Stamboul
From here we crossed over to Stamboul, and went to the Mint.
Throld Turkish coinage was a very wretched state of things — worse than the French. The people themselves appeared sometimes bothered to tell the value of the various piastre pieces ; and the paras — the smallest of th .r coins, twenty of them being about equal to a peryry— were ittle scales of metal, which might, to all appearance, have been picked off the top of a large periwinkle. ‘The five-piastre pieces — of the same size, but of £old — were mere spangles, and mostly had a hole bored through them, by which they had been hung to the women’s hair, or dresses walking tours ephesus. At last, all the money got so bad and deteriorated, and “smashing” was carried on to such an extent, that Mr. Taylor received orders to get in order and set up a beautiful English engine, which Red- shod Pacha had formerly imported ; and the office of chief engraver was given to Mr. Robertson, who had studied under Mr. Wyon. To the talent of this gentleman the Turks are indebted for their present beautiful coinage. The hundred piastre-piece is as handsome as our sovereign; and even the little copper paras are pretty coins. Gold is, however, not often met with in general circulation. There is a heavy agio on it, and the best money the traveller can carry here, a almost all over the world, is the old Spanish pillar dollar. Its relative value is constantly changing. Last year it was said to be worth 24 piastres; but when a traveller endeavors to keep his accounts straight in English sums, calculated from Spanish money, changed into Turkish, a certain loss may be reckoned on.
Mr. Robertson was engaged upon a medal to commemorate the redecoration of the mosque of St. Sophia, and it promised to be an admirable piece of work. lie said that he had experienced some
little difficulty in the general coinage, in copying the olaborato cipher of the Sultan — the toiera, as it is called — which comprises his names, titles, and other matters; hut that the Turks had told him afterwards he had sucp6cdcd”wonderfully well.
