Comic description:

A house stands on top of a flying island. A small figure is seen digging in the ground right in front of it. The sun is slowly rising above the hills, and the day seems warm and bright. Upon closer inspection, it appears that the figure is a pink anthropomorphic bunny -- Bunnyblade -- digging out carrots. Next to him, red disembodied eyes float -- his Chat. They're watching Bunnyblade with interest. Someone is shuffling behind Bunnyblade. He glances behind him. Chat looks slightly panicked. The stranger lets out a "huh."

A tall, pale man with short blonde hair stands with a sword against his shoulder and a crow perched on his arm. His name is Philza, and he is watching Bunnyblade smugly, "So you're our little carrot thief, huh?" "Well, there aren't exacytly many bunnies on this server," Bunnyblade replies. His Chat seems nervous, watching Philza. "Not even trying to lie?" Philza's grip on his sword tightens. "Bold." Bunnyblade is summoning his own weapon as Philza continues, "I'll be honest too. Do you know what I'm about to do?"

Without much hesitation, Philza swings his sword at Bunnyblade: "I'm about to have your head on a spike!" Bunnyblade easily dodges, and his dagger clanks against Philza's sword. Philza's crow flies behind Bunnyblade and, grabbing his cloak, pulls it over his head. Bunnyblade cries, "Heh?!"

Bunnyblade struggles with the cloak, complaining, "Bruh. This is not fair at all!" As he finally manages to free himself, he (and nervous Chat) realize that he's standing on the edge of the island. Philza, his crow perched back on his hand, replies, "All is fair in war."

Bunnyblade, now scared, is watching Philza approach him and they stand on the very edge of the island. "Nowhere to run, little bunny," Philza proclaims, feeling himself victorious as he brandishes his sword. Bunnyblade, clearly sweating, replies with a "Heh. Not if I do-" he tries to make a run for it, only to be immediately kicked by Philza in the stomach, "OOF!"

Bunnyblade is sent flying off the edge. He closes his eyes to focus, and an image appears in front of his mental eye: an empty bucket of water, and Wilbur saying "had 2 borrow all ur enderpearls for business purposes hope u don't mind xoxo". Bunnyblade opens his eyes and says, "uh oh". Chat is panicking. A hand reaches out to grab his cloak.

Bunnyblade is hanging upside down. He and Chat look up… to see Philza holding him just above the edge. Philza has sweat running down his face as he asks, "Are you okay?"

Bunnyblade jumps up and away, laughing, "Keep the cloak, old man!" Philza, confused, looks at the ripped piece of cloak he now had in his hands. He then smiles fondly. The moon is shining in the sky. Bunnyblade is mumbling "…huh".

Bunnyblade is clearly confused, asking "Why'd he do that?" as he's staring at a patched up cloak. Chat is asking, hopeful, "Maybe he wants to be friends now???" Bunnyblade shuts down the suggestion with a small smile, "Friends? Doubt that, Chat. Maybe in another life." An image is seen -- Philza laughing with arm draped over Technoblade's shoulder. Behind them, other Philzas and Technoblade go around their business as they celebrate victories, meet up in tundras and take over the Antarctic. They all look happy.

hello hello! idk if you remember but someone else sent an ask abt dedra’s romantic past (or lack thereof lol) and u said that if anything syril has more prior ‘experience’ in that area than her; i was curious if you had any headcanons pertaining to that?

i read a fic once where syril was going to meet dedra and used cologne that a former boyfriend bought for him and i loved that little detail so much; to me, he’s the type of person that would keep those things after a breakup instead of getting rid of them; it would be a point of pride that someone loved him enough to get him gifts so he’d still be using them

Hello hello! Thank you for asking me about this, and I'm sorry I wrote so much — I love theorizing about my silly Imperial weirdos and their strange, sad pasts. (I also need you to tell me what fic that was, because I thought I'd read everything, but I'm not recalling a fic where Syril wears a former boyfriend's cologne. I'm desperate for new reading material. Please.)

I got the basic frame of the idea about Syril having some experience from Kyle Soller. In at least one interview, he's said Syril's never been in love before, but he's "had experiences like that." Kyle goes on to mention in that interview that Syril's probably kept himself away from "that" — love — because he's always been so focused on being the best he can be for the Empire. Which, fair. That's certainly how he comes across on the show, although I'd argue he probably turned some heads at Pre-Mor. I mean, come on. He looks like that. I'd also argue "keeping himself away from that" would not preclude a very occasional one-night stand, which is where he might have more experience than Dedra, who according to Denise has never been touched. Yikes.

But even if he's never been with anyone (which would just make him and Dedra even brighter twin flames, I—) he, at the very least, has had "experiences like that." So, maybe he started to fall for someone and pulled himself back, reined himself in, told himself to put the Empire and his ambitions above everything and anything else because he is determined to remain in constant motion up the ladder. In his mind love could slow, if not halt, his progress. I think that'd be in character for him. But he, at least, has had emotions. He's started to fall, only to shake his head, right himself, and stiffly walk away. Dedra, on the other hand... I doubt she's ever even approached the cliff. Her personal life is an Antarctic tundra. Her past, in my opinion, has been so fraught and damaging and painful that she's likely never been told, platonically or romantically, that she's loved.

So, that leads me to Syril and Dedra, and Syril's fixation with Dedra, and why her after all this time. It's no secret that Syril's a mess, and he feels everything deeply — his need to follow the rules, his need to serve the Empire and advance in his career, and, of course, his obsession with Dedra. I think he allows himself to be obsessed with or to fall for her because she's not a random co-worker, or an acquaintance, or a stranger on the street. She's everything he wants, on almost every conceivable level. She's an idol in a white tunic, a dream made real. If he's always been so focused on being the best he can be for the Empire, she's perfectly aligned with that, so there's no need to keep himself away. To be honest, I don't think he even knows that he's in love, although he might get there in Season 2. In Season 1, I think he knows that she's a beacon of hope, so he's basking in her light, and through basking in her light he's basking in the light of the Empire. After all, he risked his life to save her in Ferrix... but in doing so, he saved a piece of the Empire.

On the subject of Syril in an actual relationship, I absolutely see him as the kind of person to keep mementos like cologne, or a shirt, or gifts he couldn't bring himself to throw away after a breakup. I think you're right; he'd treasure any memory of being genuinely loved, because I don't believe he has many of them. I don't think he'd handle rejection or perceived betrayal well because of what happened with his father, but I also think whatever's in his private box has to do with his father, so. Even when his heart is broken, I don't think he ever quite banishes that person from its every corner. Or I suppose it could be a vanity thing: I made this person love me, and I have evidence to prove it. I do think he's vain. But when the cologne runs out, I think he'd feel empty inside — and a few of his brightly colored memories would turn grayscale. That's why it's easiest to love the Empire: the Empire has never hurt him. The Empire believes in him, and he believes in it. In my opinion, regardless of how he feels about Dedra, the Empire will always be his truest, deepest, and most faithful love.

Despite the general cooling of the planet one particular continent is starting to warm up, allowing a more varied climate better suited for both plant and animal life.

Antarctica has been fully covered in ice for the last 30 million years, but now thanks to its movement northwards and the formation of the Magellan islands between the Antarctic Peninsula and Tierra del Fuego the flow of the Antarctic Circumpolar Current has been broken, allowing warm currents to go along the Pacific coast.

The dominant biome here is tundra and cold prairies, broken by rivers and wetlands.

The largest animals here are all birds. The most common herbivores are flightless ducks and other anseriforms, that get preyed upon by large, but still well adapted for flight, terrestrial birds. These peregrine falcon descendants (Gyrornis ambulans) have developed a hunting strategy much different from that of its ancestor, now basically pouncing on their prey, aided by their wings, and crushing their windpipes with a bite to the neck, in a similar fashion to cats. Although specialised for larger prey they’re also able to take smaller game, allowing it to spread into South America where it feeds on small rodents, youngs of bigger animals and birds.

An unlikely inhabitant of these grasslands is a flightless bird, similar to an upright kiwi that feeds on insects and eggs. Unlike any other bird in the area, its posture, almost plantigrade feet and flattened wings show his ancestry. It’s a penguit (Erectopteryx palmeri), a descendant of small penguins that exploited the new Antarctic environments early on, becoming a quite successful generalist.

The richest ecosystem on the continent are the cold wetlands brought forth by the melting glaciers. These immense areas are a biodiversity hotspot where a myriad of aquatic and semiaquatic species live. At the base of the food chain there’s many freshwater fish lineages, in this case cichlids, trouts and salmons, and semiaquatic insects, like dragonflies and mayflies, that got here from South America. The biggest river predator is the garlachea (Garlachea antarctica), a large salmonid similar to the Amazonian arapaima or to sturgeons. It shares the environment with many semiaquatic mammals, like the English otter (Pyrolutra anglolittoralis), many aquatic rodents, and one of the biggest monotremes yet, the giant polar platypus (Neopilopus fluvialis) that bottom feeds and occasionally catches small fish and other vertebrates.

The swarms of insects feed many more animals, attracting flocks of bats and birds, and feeding the ground dwelling flightless bats and semi-terrestrial salmonids.

Imagine your weird relationship with your coding teacher getting even weirder because you thought he was your dad for a few seconds (you were then dying of hypothermia and he was saving you) and now the trauma you associate with your coding teacher (he tortured you for 2 days straight and nearly drove you insane) is mixed with gratitude and severe daddy issues. And then he has a catfight with the guy who threw you out into the Antarctic tundra. So it's like.... Enemy of your Enemy is like your new shitty dad. Lucky you.

His hand scrambled against the countertop for a weapon, clutching for half a regrettable second around a hot, metal stove grate before he reached down further and snagged a wooden spoon.

2. (finished) escaping a prison in an icy tundra seemed too easy because it was:

All it took was a stolen wool uniform, courtesy of the unconscious guard now in Mac’s cell, and the matching hat to hide his hair.

3. (WIP) antarctic dogfighting/dog racing/gambling ring:

Mac and Jack both turned their heads toward the source of the sound. Jack’s hand twitched toward his concealed gun on reflex, but it was such a small move it went undetected. A man was approaching casually, a bright smile on his cold-rosied cheeks. “Didn’t mean to startle you,” he said, breath puffing in the air. “New guys tend to spook easy. Is it your first time?”

4. (WIP) malpractice extravaganza:

Mac’s arm dragged along the floor of the car as they moved him, fingers relaxed into a slight curl. Blond hair, in complete disarray, was dragged through blood.

Mac had been dead to the world since the moment Riley and Desi got him to the bedroom. They hadn’t even been able to convince him to change out of the blue button-up before he flopped backward on top of the covers and refused to move again.

Fears as dreams I have had:

End: I dreamed my best friend faded away and died before my eyes

Desolation: I was in a burning restaurant trying to frantically find my way out

Slaughter: I was running through an oddly wide and empty version of museum adjacent London when I saw a child who looked like my secondary school bully. I went up to him and he asked in a child's voice "Are you here to kill me?"

Hunt: I spent the last two years going between Canada and London on the run from a scrawny man with a rifle. I was with my mom. We would close the blinds and live in hiding and we weren't scared because it felt normal to us. One day, my mom gave me a hunting rifle to defend myself. On that same day, my mom was having too long a conversation with one of the neighbors and had left the door open and I was silently gesturing for her to come inside and when we did go to the door it was closed and unlocked. We both knew he was inside and so we both scattered before I heard the gunshots of my rifle echo out across the street and the scrawny man's face was angry. I ran all the way down the near by highway and the air was cool. It all felt normal. He was behind me.

Flesh: My skin texture was melty and strange. Very bad.

Corruption: A recurring dream where I had a very contagious orange coloured terminal infection. I laughed and joked for people not to come near me to make it seem like I wasn't scared to die while making it so that others wouldn't get infected.

Stranger: I was not!them and I was running through a Russian community center (I have never been to Russia in my life). The walls were white plaster and bare save for a pink ballet advert flyer I couldn't read. Jonathan Sims was chasing my with a metal pipe as I was about half way into climbing into the skin of some blonde guy before he hit me. I remember being indignant that the hit meant I made the my torso the wrong height. A similar feeling to when someone jogs your hand while you're drawing.

Buried: I was a young child at the pool with my mom when I fell into a small thin rectangular pool that seemed to go down forever. I was drowning and I couldn't swim back up. I couldn't breathe. When I woke up, it turned out I had choked on my tongue while I slept and that was why I had that dream.

Web: In this dream, I was quite literally The Web. There was a plan over many years where 10 people were sent anonymous paypal money over imessage which would, 5 years later, lead to the death and coverup of a 19 girl hiking in the woods. This would eventually lead to strings based rapture into the skies. When I woke up and felt like a person with an identity again and not an overarching force/concept I was confused and felt like some kind of cosmic horror protagonist which was cool.

Eye: Honestly don't think I have ever had an Eye dream which is odd given my track record.

Spiral: I was in a really fucked up trippy hotel maze thing with blacklights and ladders and messages that didn't make sense and Ryker 8:11 was there and then I climbed out of a trap door and I was on the ground at night in the rain in Brighton.

Lonely: I snuck onto an Antarctic research team base under a fake name after faking my own death. I stood at the outskirts of our little town looking at the warmth and the lights contrasting the tundra and it struck me that this was the only place anyone even knew I existed.

Vast: A childhood memory of a storm came back to me in a dream when I talked to a friend from that world. I still remember it clearly. I must have been 7 or so and I was going with my friends to the park. We stood on the side of the hill and saw a storm. It was so low and small as if it were my storm. As if it were there to strike me. But it was so tall and impossibly vast and dark and roiling and crashing I could not understand it. When the flashback finished, the girl in my dream asked if I had been struck by lightning but I explained I would have a lichtenburg scar if I had.

Dark: I was a priest like figure in a cult that worshiped dark and stars. I remember I was lying in my bed. It was accommodation provided by the cult themselves. The bed was cool and the room was dark, but cast into a deep blue black by the faint light of the stars outside. I felt fulfilled and in tune with the world in a way I have never done so to any meaningful extent.

Extinction: I was standing in the rain and my friend said that the rain drops were too small. I looked at them. They were cloudy and feeble and polluted and tasted unnervingly sweet.

In the cold of Tunguska, just moments before meteorite collision would lay waste to the forest, on the horizon not far from the impact site an onyx armored android had immediately fired a particle beam that only missed its extraterrestrial target by centimeters, as it bored a hole through the ground and into the crust of the Earth.

Rex maneuvered himself like a fighter jet, trying to get in a strike. But not before the world around themselves gave way to a temporal shift.

Now to Egypt, during the Bubastite dynasty. Knocking each other through the sand dunes, skidding until they went crashing through some stone structures. But against a Dynamech, no superbeing-- not even a veritable powerhouse could rest easy knowing it was after them.

Just as quickly as the succession of attacks and collisions with the environment had occurred, the two were gone again. Not a soul saw them coming or going as the particle weapon concluded charging immediately, and found its mark.

It was a total slugfest, as the two traded blows. Every opening, the Dynamech unit exploited with a hammering attack. And with each that connected, the jaws of the antarctic tundra raged on around them in a blizzard. Rex had always preferred warmer climates...

A titanium alloy fist landed an uppercut on Rex's jaw, sending him rolling backwards through the air. Followed immediately by a knee to the gut that emptied his lungs right away. Elbow to the lower back to send him into the ground.

The next time the Dynamech's particle weapon fired, the beam had changed. It was trying to 'help' Rex reach a temperature of absolute zero with its newfound effect!

In response, Rex threw some energy bolts with the desperation of a pitcher on a losing baseball team. The decelerating Chronoton Cannon was then wielded in a defensive capacity to dispel the projectiles, though some still connected with its chassis.

The Dynamech erected a temporary force-field just as Rex came in with a flying kick. Pushing off after landing, the cosmic contender raised his aura and tested it against the android's barrier-- almost a battle of wills ensuing alongside the clash of ranged attacks and physical punishment. Although it was brief to the outside observer, it crackled with colossal static and rocked the immediate area with localized tremors. Felt like an eternity to the two opponents before they started landing hits upon each other once more...

Simple subtropical desert survival 🏜️

It might seem like common sense, but desert survival isn't always what it seems. First, some quick facts:

There are only 23 deserts in the world (though Wikipedia lists 34).

During the day, temperatures can top out at over 100°F; at night, it can get down to 32°F or lower.

Any place that receives less than 10 inches (or 25 centimeters) of rain per year is considered to be a desert. They are present on every continent.

There are 5 different types of deserts listed in this article: polar, subtropical, cold deserts, coastal, and temperate. Polar deserts have flat plains with snow dunes and icebergs. They also have short summers (with temperatures between 69°F and 79°F) and long winters (with temperatures between 28°F and 39°F). Subtropical deserts are characterized by high temperatures, very low precipitation and warm soils. Cold deserts have short, moist, and moderately warm summers (with temperatures ranging from 70°F and 79°F) with fairly long, cold winters (with temperatures ranging from 28°F and 39°F). Coastal deserts have cool winters and long, warm summers (with temperatures ranging between 55°F and 75°F). Though heavy fogs are a characteristic, rainfall is still rare because most precipitation occurs in the ocean. Finally, temperate deserts have distinct seasonal climates, with strong, long-lasting frost in winters and extremely hot summers with temperatures fluctuating between -49°F and 122°F.

Don't eat. Avoid eating as often as possible. Digestion uses water, and you can survive longer with little to no food than you can with no water.

Try not to sweat. It's probably inevitable that you will sweat, especially if you're out in the desert in the open and unable to find shade. Still, you can minimize your sweating by relegating physical activities to the night, when it's much cooler. Also, keep your clothing on, because this will keep your sweat from evaporating too quickly. If you don't have a hat, you can use a piece of fabric to tie around and over your head.

Don't drink your urine. I was thinking about Tundra Man and how his stage wasn't as thematically fitting like others' in MM11 and that got me thinking...what if the devs were trying to make Tundra's stage unique in contrast to past ice RMs' stages? I only really had Frost Man to compare so I went out of my way to experience each one.

It's been a couple of months since I played most of these since I was concentrating the summer fanart entries so the memories aren't fresh but: the most unique things about Tundra are, yeah, the museum setting, the slippery icy permafrost floor and the strong winds. I think I'll always be a little crazy that Tundra's stage doesn't take place in an actual tundra but stuff like the strong winds that a feature on the tundra and also alludes to his special powers, makes me appreciate the concept more.

I appreciated the design a lot more when I learned about the burga, which is a strong Siberian wind. That and the stuff like Ice Swans being modeled after the Russian tundra swan shows that, hey, they did the work--they meant the Russian tundra robot to have Russian tundra roots origins.

My favorite stage concepts would have to go to both Frost and Chill, mostly because I'm a sucker for the snowy night aesthetic. I love the rainbow changing snow crystals in Chill's place and Frost's man is infamously tough, I'm just a big fan of the whole day-to-night time lapse.

Kinda side-eying stuff like having penguin bots in what's supposed to be Alaska, though. Yes, I'm sure you could come up with easy explanations but it's that kind of thing that contributes to the Arctic and Antarctic being conflated as being the same shit. I guess that's why I was so surprised that they actually put in a real life allusions to tundra animals instead of just putting whatever.
