Ideas for what the boys (maybe some of the other random npcs too if you're up for it?) do when valentines day rolls around?
Valentines Headcannons
Ominis Gaunt x reader; Sebastian Sallow x Reader; Poppy Sweeting x reader
Warnings - none
A/N - I'm writing for these 3 because I don't feel comfortable enough with anyone else's personality to be able to elaborate on something like this? As I play the game more myself hopefully I can add on to these types of things
Sebastian
he would be the most likely to initially forget about it until it's only like a few days away
he would be scrambling to do the most with the least time so you didn't feel forgotten about even if he did in fact forget
he would be trying to plan the day from start to finish with flowers he's scrambled to pick first thing in the morning
treating you to a private lunchtime in the undercroft which he put together by convincing the house elves to let him do some not-so-great cooking for you
he would want to finish the day by taking you to hogsmeade for an authentic seated dinner
OR if intimate is more your thing, he would probably kidnap you to Feldcroft
he would enlist the help of locals to set up a much better dinner for you in a picturesque outdoor setting
at then end of the day he would confess how he had originally forgotten about the holiday
to which you would let him know how much you appreciated his efforts and that it was pretty above and beyond for just some 7th year students
Ominis
he would want to keep things simple, but private with you two
he would be craving your touch all day in anticipations of some evening cuddling
but he would start the day greeting you with a surprising public kiss on the cheek and wishing you a happy valentines
he would inform you to meet him in the undercroft after your last class before giving you a note and a piece of jewelry
using some transfiguration, since it is his favorite he would have transformed the room into a comfortable place full of pillows, blankets, and relaxing seating
he would immediately grab you and make the two of you topple over into the couch
the both of you would be laughing as he relaxed into you, hands roaming your body, but not in a sensual way
he just wanted to be close and missed you all day and wanted to know if you liked his surprise of trying to make the room a little more comfy
he'll have acquired some stolen snacks from the kitchen and to your surprise, he would offer to read to you
usually he adored having you read to him, but you always told him how much you loved his voice so this was his surprise
he would have some options at the ready and you'd probably make him read a rather silly tale before you both drift to sleep together
Poppy
she would want to make sure everything is PERFECT
she would be so nervous talking to you throughout the day to try and keep her plans a surprise
she would take you out on a trail marked with flower petals
she would stop to make sure you knew all the creatures that were present along the way, even plants or fungus, things that were alive but not exactly animals
it would be like your own personal zoo tour in the wild
she would lead you to a makeshift tent with a picnic basket she hid for the two of you to have a late, moonlight dinner watching the mooncalves together
you would cuddle under blankets and enjoy one another's company, probably falling asleep and staying out too late
before you know it you're waking up in the middle of the night, giggling as you pack your things up and rush to sneak back into the castle

whenever someone complaints abt a ttrpg being 'gamey' the standard response is "well what did you expect?? you're playing a game, dipshit". but i think by 'gamey' the actual criticism being made is that it feels artificial
5e's always felt gamey to me because of the annoying obligation to balance encounters and an adventuring day. you need to have enough encounters to drain the wizard's resources, they need to walk a tightrope between challenging the PCs and not TPK-ing them, etc etc.
and everyone talks about how hard this is on the GM with the limited tools 5e gives you (which it is) but it also has the unrelated effect of feeling extremely forced from a player-side. the illusion of a consistent world starts to slip because what the PCs encounter has to revolve around the PCs for the game to work.
also i've been seeing a lot of 4e defending on my dash lately and like, yes it's a good game that's very good at the thing it chooses to do. but the criticism that 4e feels gamey (read: artificial) is extremely valid; the strict separation between combat and non-combat results in all flavor basically being only flavor
there's a 4e paragon path you can take called the Entrancing Mystic, whose powers have flavor text describing how you bewitch and ensnare the minds of your enemies. what do the powers actually do? some forced movement in the combat boardgame. what happens if you use them out of combat? who knows! they certainly weren't designed to be used that way, because their actual effect is measured only in terms of the combat boardgame
obviously there's a lot of aspects of non-4e D&D and similar games that are unrealistic. hit points are not how being stabbed works. but certain gamisms bother me more bc they create a clear disconnect between the fiction and the mechanics in a more tangible way.
like, 13th age's resting system (great game but i wanna pick on it here) has you fully heal every 3 or 4 encounters. only had one encounter? no full heal-up, even if you're resting. you have had four encounters? you get a full heal-up. there's a halfhearted sidebar about how the GM should contrive a reason for the heal-up to happen.
as a game balance mechanic, it's great! but i despise it because it's so disconnected from the reality of the game world. HP and fully healing on a rest isn't realistic, but it's an abstract representation of something that happens in the fiction. take a rest -> fully heal is unrealistic but internally consistent with the game world. 13th age healing is not - the in-universe characters can never acknowledge it as it makes no in-world sense.
anyway the reason i'm grumpy abt this lately is the MCDM game has a taunt mechanic that's just straight-up called taunting and it irks me so so bad. again, great game, super fun, but taunting leads to so many situations where an NPC does stuff they wouldn't do
y'know, like a videogame! where the dialogue and personality is just a skin over a set of game mechanics. and when NPCs start behaving out of character with no in-world justification (cause taunts aren't mind control ofc, it's just a guy... taunting you) they feel gamey. artificial.
i like all of the games i brought up (except probably 5e) but i had to get that out of my system thanks for coming to my ted talk

Finished The Indigo Disk last night, so time for some more PokéThoughts:
For costing more than half the price of the base game, I feel like the story could have been longer. I'm certainly not done playing the DLC yet (still haven't caught the Loyal Three, for example), but I finished the story in ~2 days. The base game probably took me about a week? To be fair, I did start the DLC with a full team of Lvl 100 Pokémon, so that probably saved me a lot of time.
Similarly, for being called "The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero", you really don't spend that much time in Area Zero. Again, this is likely due to having a late game, high level build. Part of the reason it took longer in the base game is because you don't have Koraidon, so you can't just jump and fly to get where you need. Also, I just immediately used the warp point to get to Research Station 4 instead of walking through all of Area Zero again. I hope I didn't accidentally skip any fun interactions, but with how much Game Freak tries to railroad you into doing the plot how they want you to (see my previous post about the DLC), I feel like if there were any cutscenes there, then you just wouldn't be able to use the warp points for... reasons.
That being said, what time you do spend in Area Zero is just as awesome as the first time you go there in the base game. The new music is great, too.
Speaking of new music: Celestial (Remix by Toby Fox)?! Leave it to Toby to make an Ed Sheeran song actually good, I guess.
Performance wise, it's comparable to the base game, maybe slightly better? Only clipped into a mountain once. Haven't noticed any other glitches so far, but it does occasionally seem to run a bit sluggishly. (And it continues to suffer from a lack of voice acting.)
Koraidon can fly now!!! Wish there was an option to invert the y-axis, but it can fly!!! Also, you can BE your Pokémon now!!!
Spoilers?
I like how they tell you Blueberry Academy is in Unova, but it's not, like, attached to it at all. It's just an island. They could have said any region, and it would have had negligible impact, imo. (But I am saying this as someone who hasn't actually played Gen V, so maybe there were things I missed.)
Well, okay, I think it did have one effect. I haven't played B/W, but I know Unova is supposed to be based on America, so when one of the NPCs mentions "BBQs", I was like, "Oh, that's cool. They have barbecues here instead of picnics." Nope! Stands for Blueberry Quests.
Terapagos being tiny when Kieran first pulls him out was the funniest shit
It broke the fucking Master Ball?! It can do that?!
Still not sure I really understand how the Stellar Tera Type works. I know it's not every type at once. I'm not sure how that would work either. Wouldn't they just cancel each other out?
I don't feel like the game did the best job of communicating how much time had passed. Carmine (and later, Kieran) always being like, "You really kept me waiting". I literally did not??? But also, Kieran saying, "I looked up to [Player] for so long", meanwhile I'm pretty sure that, at most, one in-game week has passed since I first met him. I guess if I had played the first part when it first came out, it would've felt like a longer time. (It was probably supposed to be at least a few months in-game.)
Also makes it a little hard to buy into his motivation being his desire to beat me in battle. Wait, maybe that makes it more believable, actually. "You're still bitter about that?" "Yeah? It was just last week..."
But, again, I would be perfectly happy to let him have Ogerpon. He has a personal connection to it! If I keep it, it's probably just going to stay in one of my boxes. (It is pretty cute, though.)
Despite the lack of hugs, I found the ending acceptable. I do still wish you could have hugged Kieran, though. Or at the very least, when he says, "Can we be friends again?", you should have been able to say something like, "What do you mean 'again'? We're still friends!"

Hey there! Sorry it's kind of late, but I just remembered I said I'd send you a follow up ask about your dislike for the monster mom from Undertale when you had more time. But if you still don't have the time or just aren't feeling up to it, absolutely no worries! Hope you have a nice Friday!
I FORGOT ABOUT THIS
But yeah I really don't like her at all and it's maybe bcs I'm projecting some baggage onto her or smthn, but basically I went into Undertale completely blind bcs my friend told me I should experience it as fresh as possible, the only hint I got was "try not to kill anyone", so from my perspective here's what the beginning of the game was like(also forgive me if anything is out of order plot wise, I've only played the game once and it was seven years ago):
- Okay, the main character I'm playing as has clearly fallen into some sort of fantasy world, alright, games probably gonna be about us finding our way home then, cool!
- Oh, there's a goat lady?? Who's....acting like she's my mom??? Weird, I don't know her at all, and I super don't trust her bcs in fantasy stories like this you gotta watch out for characters who seem super nice but secretly want to keep you trapped "for your own good". It's a classic trope, so I'm :/ about her.
- Oh god she's being so overbearing and way too nice ugh I already don't like pushy tutorial npcs and she's def giving me bad vibes now, she's probably going to try to trap me here. All of this nice stuff feels culty and dangerous and weird, and there's this creeping dread, eugh...
- I hate butterscotch. I told her I preferred cinnamon bcs I don't like butterscotch, but now I have to eat it anyway, so she's not listening to me. So she's acting like my mom while creating an environment where my desires and preferences are not prioritized. This sucks.
- There were other kids down here maybe? What happened to them? Hmmm I think I'm in Danger.
- Eh, her house is nice but it's so empty...I don't like it here. She's refusing to talk to me about where I am or tell me how to leave, and she's kinda like demanding I just give up and live here with her and absolutely acting like she's my mom now, so yeah def trying to trap me here, I guess I'm a kidnapping victim. We gotta figure out a way to get the fuck out of here this place is culty and weird and too happy and I hate it.
- And she's trying to stop us! I knew it.
- And now she's kinda guilt tripping me! Wow yeah we REALLY need to leave.
- Fight time, but I'm not supposed to kill so I guess we just push forward? Eugh she's trying to make me feel bad for her but I don't. I just want to leave!
- Oh okay the fight is over? And she's telling me...that I can never come back?? This lady full on kidnapped me and started acting like my mom and now she's ditching me?? Bcs SHE'S too sad?? Oh my god, that's so fucking mean! I'm not even allowed to call her? Not that I wanted to, but she's just full on cutting me off?? Listen you either want to be my mom or you don't, if you're gonna commit, then fucking commit! You don't get to just act like you love me and then rip it all away! Jesus, this sucks. Okay, well fuck you too lady, I'm leaving, see ya never I hope!
And then I got really emotionally invested in everyone else and especially Asgore bcs I love a tragic king who is trying to do what's right even if it involves horrible things and losing every thing and everyone he loves, but hey at least he's being up front about it! And not lying to me or anything! I appreciate the honesty.
But then she showed up at the end of the game and I was just like oh god she's back fucking yikes. And she's acting like she's better than Asgore?? And he's listening?? Damn also she's totally okay with murder since she just told him he could have taken one human soul and crossed the barrier, so she doesn't even have the moral high ground on that, so she's a coward and so fake wtf, oh god now she's acting like my mom again, fucking great. I'm running as soon as the credits roll.
So yeah....I was VERY surprised when I went online and saw how everyone loved her so much, cuz to me she's just a rude weird control freak lady who tried to trap me in purgatory alone with her forever and then acted like I was the bad guy for asking to leave before Completely Abandoning me. And maybe it's due to some trauma I've been through or smthn, I think it probably is tbh, but I just cannot bring myself to see her as anything but a weirdo who pretended to love me and then abandoned me the second I asserted a single boundary.
And that's why I don't like Toriel.

Some thoughts about My Time at Sandrock after completion
Anything real spoilery I'm going to hide, but:
I really enjoyed it, despite some moments in late game where my game kept freezing up. I've been sending bug reports in to the devs so hopefully you won't see the bugs I'm seeing in full release. Also, as I write this, the main game is complete but there will still be sidequests, as well as hopefully fixing some missing dialogue and NPC models.
I completed my game with my builder at level 47. There were late-game enemies that were in the high 50s-low 60s but I dodged a lot, wore my best armor and carried lots of meds.
(On that last bit: you don't need to be much above level 40, but there are 4 areas with combat which are made much, much easier with the sword you can get early in act 3.)
So, I felt the general plot of the game worked pretty well! To go with the first two acts (getting into Sandrock/dealing with the Geeglers and then Logan, followed by discovering Duvos agents have infiltrated the town), act 3 is much quieter but actually deals with some of the stuff that comes up in the first two acts - making Sandrock green again, improving the water supply, making the town more attractive to tourists and also to new residents.
There were some great callbacks - Trudy saying that she wanted the Sandrockers to be themselves (compared to the Musa visit in act 2), and Jasmine got a neat callback to her day 2 tour (where instead of giving a tour to a lone builder, she gives it to a whole bunch of Alliance people).
I appreciated the references to Portia. I loved seeing Mint, Albert, and Gale. The game referred to the Rogue Knight (though not to who he was), seems to have made Albert/Sonia canon, mentions Mint's misadventures in Ingalls Mine, and of course the fact that the Portia builder makes the long-haul busses for the Sandrock-Portia route while we make the bus to bring water from Portia. And of course, you get to make a flying machine, and your family visits.
Also, by the end of the game, everybody in the free cities knows your name. You may not be Peach, but you're definitely going down in the annals of history (and giving your mom heart attacks while you're at it).
I really like the new befriendable/romanceable arrivals (Wei and Jane) and I'm glad both of them are in the game.
The only minor quibbles I had:
It's nice that Sandrock has enough water, but to go from conserving water to having a waterfall? The ancient technology is great, but it's not that great! Why stress it?
Nobody seems to be visiting Catori World despite it supposedly being this hugely important tourist attraction. The only tourists you see are the ones on opening night. (Also, there are hostile creatures at the start of the area, why didn't they get removed like the other kinds of monsters in the area?)
Also, it would be really nice to ride the rides at Catori World. You can do some bouncing (exact same mechanisms as the first part of Logan's hideout), but that's it.
I was kind of hoping for some resolution to Matilda. The devs teased that she'd be landing somewhere... we have no clue where and there's no mention of her past early act 3 except for a dialogue exchange between Justice and Owen in one event.

Fanfic Writer Questions
Tagged by @kittlesandbugs, thank you so much!
1. How many works do you have on AO3? 24, but there are a lot of things that I've only posted on reddit or kept in a document, I've been trying to upload some old works recently though!
2. What's your total AO3 word count? 47,945
3. What fandoms do you write for? Dragon Age mainly, but also Fallen Hero, some Baldur's Gate 3 (not posted to AO3 yet but there is... a decent amount), a bit of Mass Effect and a bit of The Exile
4. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? Some of these are at the top simply by virtue of being older and/or with more popular pairings
Stay - Dragon Age Inquisition, Cullavellan, early work, Cullen's perspective on a late evening reviewing paperwork in the Inquisitor's quarters. He makes a scandalous suggestion: forging her signature
Eloquence - Dragon Age Inquisition, Cullavellan again, also Cullen's perspective, set earlier than the one above. It's very cute, early work but full of words unspoken and gentle teasing
Deliberations on the Inevitable - Dragon Age post-Origins, Morrigan/Amell, from Morrigan's perspective. A mouthful of a title. The Warden is convinced to leave to find a cure for the Calling after Kieran tells him his blood sings louder
Amell Family Letters - Dragon Age Inquisition-ish, letters between the Warden, Kieran, and Morrigan while he's out trying to find a cure and they're at Skyhold
Motherly Love - Dragon Age post-Inquisition, Cullavellan, early work, Lavellan has difficulty bonding with her daughter. The story itself I'm considering retconning but it was really personal to write
5. Do you respond to comments? I try to but I have a habit of bursting with joy when I read them and telling myself "I'll respond when I get to my desk" and then forgetting that I should
6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending? Most of my fics usually end reasonably positively even if the path they take to get there can get rough. I think maybe I am cursed, maybe I am gifted might be the angstiest overall, the PTSD of a war criminal Exile commander still towing the party line before exile
7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending? I don't know if I have any that aren't at least a little bittersweet, but of them A Father's Legacy is probably the happiest. Colonist Shepard has a long-needed talk with his parents and has a chance to try to learn from their mistakes with his daughter
8. Do you get hate on fics? Not that I've seen
9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? Only for fun in private with friends. There's some truly silly smut on my drive that will never see the light of day publicly
10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written? Also only in private with friends, but only once. A satirical TWC crossover into FHR
11. Have you ever had a fic stolen? No I don't think so
12. Have you ever had a fic translated? Nope
13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Not really, I've started a few collaborations but they didn't get very far
14. What's your all time favorite ship? Anything with Morrigan. It's always great, there's always a little edge to it even in extremely loving fics (as there should be!)
15. What's a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will? Raynda and Tamaris's Wycome Adventure, a pre-Inquisition short novella-length fic. It's mostly there, kind of. Needs refining and editing and at this point probably a rewrite
16. What are your writing strengths? Period novel-like prose, describing impressions, established npc voices, and I'm really good at writing child POVs
17. What are your writing weaknesses? Plotting a longer work, or rather coming up with a compelling problem that will build tension toward a satisfying climax. It's why I trend towards short in-between ficlets instead
18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? If I know the language maybe, it just has to have a purpose beyond obfuscation and I'd rather not use google translate
19. First fandom you wrote for? Dragon Age
20. Favorite fic you've written? I'm torn between Deliberations on the Inevitable and The Queen but I think it may be The Queen. The courtly love and the metaphors are things I'm still proud of. It also comes as no surprise but both fics feature strong women, Morrigan and Anora.
I'm not sure who hasn't been tagged already so I'll tag @ohmypawsandwhiskers @wolfs-dawn and @plisuu but if you see this consider yourself invited to fill it out

NPC Dialogue for L, my polyamorous builder
I saw people doing this meme in the tags, and decided to try it out. Inspired specifically by @pepperonibread's post.
L:
Intro: “Howdy! Welcome to Sandrock. I'm new, too! Got kind of burnt out at building school, and at first kind of regretted coming here where there's so much work to do. But have you noticed how hot everyone is? Maybe it's the dry desert air making me so thirsty.”
Acquaintance:
Hey! How are you settling in? Make sure you don't go out too far - monsters can get pretty scary the further you get from town.
How's it hanging? You tried sandfishing yet? I used to love regular fishing, so it's kind of wild!
So I looked into it, and apparently there are a lot of policies in the Church of the Light that are determined by chapter. Like, how we can have guns here. I wonder what else is different?
I stayed out too late the other night, and when I passed out, I had a dream about...well, never mind.
Buddy:
Howdy! Caught any fish yet? Any big ones? Sometimes I see them swimming through the sand and wonder if I could do that.
Sometimes I get so tired, I just have to sit down and stare into space, and it always ends up I was staring at someone. Kind of embarrassing, but, oh well! So if I do that to you - sorry?
You know, you should stop by the Blue Moon sometimes and relax. A hot meal, a cold drink, and good conversation - you gotta set down the pickhammer and remember what it's all about.
How did Rian land such a great catch? Maybe I need to take a page out of his book...oh, sorry! Howdy! I'm off in my own world again, huh.
How's it hanging? Remember to let the air flow, my friend, or you'll regret it later.
Good Friend:
Howdy, pal! You ever get jealous? I saw Amirah making some pots the other day, and started wishing I was clay. At people? Nah.
Hey! Don't wear yourself out working too hard. Remember! I busted my butt in school, and now look at me.
Caught any big ones recently? I went out a bit too far to check out a new sandfishing hole, and got my ass kicked by the locals. You should've seen me! Running full tilt away clutching a giant fish to my chest like it was made of solid gold.
Howdy. You speak to Heidi lately? She's been so busy...I get it, really, but...never mind.
Sandstorm: I know it's stressful getting behind on work, but take my advice - there's no better chance to stay home and cuddle. Stay safe!
Rain:  I never knew I could miss this so much. I wonder if the sandfish around here care about rain? Does it awaken some evolutionary memory in them, or are they just oblivious?
Player has a new haircut: I wonder who you're trying to impress. Well, you're impressing me!
Player has panda eyes: I hoped you stayed up doing something fun, at least.
Player cuts a tree in front of L: Hooooboy. If you like getting berated by Burgess, good job, I guess.
Player attacks L with a weapon: Uh, watch out! Let's take it to the ring. I guess. Or, better yet, let's talk it out over dinner.
Day of the Bright Sun: I don't really need more stuff, but I love seeing the kinds of things people give as gifts. I really love days like this. Holidays were one of the brief times I wasn't studying in school. I felt guilty the entire time, but it was still worth it getting out.
Showdown at High Noon:  I guess it's good for everyone to practice fighting. Have you heard that there are places where they have a holiday to celebrate love, too? I wish we had that, to balance things out a bit.
Day of Memories: The games are fun, but I always sort of wished the fun parts and the memorial were separated. I guess that's how life is, though? You can't ever entirely separate feelings.
Tour de Rock: I feel like Unsuur should win this by default. But maybe if I win, he'll think I'm even cooler.
Running of the Yakmel:  This must be a real romantic holiday for Cooper and Mabel. Food and yakmel? I actually have no idea what this holiday's about, sorry.
Winter Solstice: Hey, don't miss out on the bonfire dancing! I'll save a spot next to me if I can!
Loved gifts:
Any kind of King Fish:  Holy! Look at that whopper! Are you seriously giving this to me?
Any of Amirah's pottery, or the character figures: Everyone accuses me of being shallow, but it was the craftsmanship of her work that really made me fall in love with her. Amirah, you're amazing.
Liked gifts:
Storage: Oh, thank the Light! And thank you! Maybe I can finally get organized.
Fishing gear:  Babe. You know me too well. Sorry, did I call you babe? Sorry, sorry. I was actually talking your gift.
Any fish other than King:  Ahaha! Howdy, little guy! You'll make a fine dinner or pet, tonight!
Neutral gifts: Wow, thanks! You don't really need to give me gifts to impress me, but I'll take 'em.
Disliked gifts: Huh. Thanks.
Hated gifts: Did I upset you? Sorry.
Complimenting appearance: Wow, thank you! The hair color's not natural, except in the sense that everything that is possible to exist is natural.
Complimenting appearance 2: I think you're pretty, too.
Complimenting work: Well, thanks! I do try! I know I'm easily distracted by a pretty face, but love just gives me the energy to make all my work feel worth it.
Complimenting personality: You catch more fish if you got the right bait.
Asked about her past:
Oh, well. Studying, work, rinse, repeat. After a while, I couldn't remember why I even wanted to be a builder. I'm starting to remember, I think.
The first time I fell in love, there was this big drama when she wanted to see someone else. I remember pretending that I was so upset, but not getting why I should care that much. I was a lot older when I realized other people aren't playing when they're upset about that stuff.
I always thought me and Nia would get married and ride off into the sunset on our gliders. Of course, life doesn't turn out how you imagine. We both had different dreams. But I missed her so much when we went our separate ways.
I think my Ma worries that she and Pa somehow pushed me into working too hard. I keep telling them that I made my own decisions, and thinking about the two of them was the big thing that pulled me off the edge, when it got real bad. I have to do better. I will do better. Even if I don't work as fast as I used to and people think I'm a flake.
Asked about work:
Most of the time people don't really need stuff as soon as they say. I still try, of course, to get it to them in time. But I've had to learn that if I end up running late, it's not the end of the world, you know?
Asked what she likes to do:
Sometimes I look at old books about fish, and then I look at the fish we've got around here - I think fish were always just really weird!
I hate eating alone, you know? Eating is when people really connect - we all gotta do it! It doesn't have to be a date, even if that's what people think I'm all about. I just want to hear about your day.
The more efficient the tools, the more time I have to keep myself sane without disappointing my commissioners. I love seeing things done quickly, and well.
Romance -
Confession response:
Accepted: Oh! You're quite the catch, so of course I accept!
Rejected: Oh...do you know what that means? Do you really want to be with me? I can't change who I am, you know. Maybe I need to think a little, and maybe you do too.
Regular lines:
Don't forget date night! It's easy to forget when we're busy, but spending time together makes everything else worthwhile!
There are always more fish in the sea, but I'm so glad I caught this one. And you caught me.
Do you see us together in twenty years? Time feels so blurry, one commission blending into the next, but no matter how far I try to look, I see you there with me.

Notes for A Matter of Duty - Chapter 17 - Like a fish to water
The patron had kissed him—hesitant at first, then sharp with yearning. Lost in the memory, Thoma drew a finger across his lower lip. Softly, gently, like the patron’s first shy fumblings. He traced his upper lip too, remembering the touch of a stranger's on his own, and wondered. Wondered about the texture of a beauty mark, and the taste of his lord's mouth.
Thoma has twenty days to get information out of a prisoner before Ayato takes over the interrogation. Twenty days to spare Ayato from losing more of himself. He throws himself into the investigation with a desperate will.
- - -
Aaand we're back! I give up on estimating how long things are going to take; I should know better by this point. However, my frantic writing deadlines are done. I was writing every spare minute for the past 2-3 months for a project that finished up in late Feb/early Mar (and went really well!) and it's finally over, so I can put my focus back on Genshin fanfic.
Any guesses as to who Thoma's patrons were? The Liyue sailor and the Liyue merchant are both actual Genshin NPCs.
This chapter was a bit of an experiment. I'm not sure if it worked or not, but I needed to get through a lot of plot points very quickly and didn't want to spend *tons of chapters* doing so.
(I might write out some of the more interesting Sakura-za scenes in a spinoff at some point. You know... this fic was originally meant to be kinky porn with some angst, and some handwaved plot in the background. Now I keep cutting out the porn because it'd bog down the plot. Siiigh.)
Back to a more traditional format next chapter. Thanks to: PancakeBeast for beta reading, and the Hidden Akasha Records discord for all the general support!
Notes and references:
Characteristics of Japanese block-printed books in the Edo period: 1603-1867: This is mostly for block-printed books, though I don't see why blank journals would be constructed any differently. (Also some nifty stuff on a particular book binder's books.)
Sugoroku: Probably dice games were more popular by this point, but board games have a certain sedateness to them that's valuable for conversation—yet I didn't want to use something too cerebral like shōgi or Go, so sugoroku it is.
My math. Conversion rates grabbed off of... some forum thread or another; fees for actors sourced from The Great Mirror of Male Love by Ihara Saikaku, a collection of m/m short stories published in 1687.
- Sleeping with apprentice actors cost 1 bu of gold (1/4 ryu of gold, about 25k yen or 170 usd) - $1 USD = 297.52 mora. So 1 bu = 50k mora - 5 ryō of silver = 66,665 yen = 455.98 usd or 423.10 euro = 135k mora for a night with a full fledged onnagata actor of no particular stardom
Studies in Kabuki: Its acting, music, and historical context - Specifically page 46 talking about dance (but I've referenced this whole piece heavily).
Summary of the fic itself with content warnings, tags, etc so you can decide if you want to read it or not before you click on the link.
A Matter of Duty
A year after the death of Ayato and Ayaka's parents, the clan succession is contested from within and without. Kamisato Ayato will do anything—_anything_—to ensure the safety of his family and the stability of his clan.
But powerful supporters come at an unimaginable price. When Ayato's own sacrifices aren't enough, he is forced to involve Thoma in a web of intrigue and exploitation that will push them to the breaking points of their bodies, their minds, and their very hearts.
or: Kushiel's Dart meets Genshin Impact in a quick-scorch-to-slow-burn romantic drama of court intrigue, sexual politics, and sacrifice.
Note: Mind the tags. More specific content warnings will be given at the beginning of each chapter, and the story tags will be updated as needed. All characters in sex scenes are adults.
Rating: Explicit. It's porn with plot. Porn as a vehicle for plot, or plot as a vehicle for porn, you can interpret it either way. (I prefer: porn and plot as a vehicle for ~feels~)
Tags that I'm not actually turning into tags here, but it gives you an idea of what you're in for: Kamisato Ayato/Thoma (Genshin Impact), dubious consent but not between Ayato and Thoma, slow burn, sex ed, first time, self-sacrifice, humiliation, exhibitionism, oral sex, anal sex, bdsm, bad bdsm etiquette, rough sex, breath play, impact play, bondage, service kink, abuse, sadism, codependency, shame, guilt, jealousy, possessiveness, trauma, ptsd, dissociation, political sex work, or sex work for political maneuvering, or political survival sex work if that’s a thing, exploitation, blackmail, political machinations, political intrigue, no aftercare, maybe someday some aftercare, hurt/comfort, mostly hurt for a long time but eventually comfort, oblivious disaster gays, for such socially savvy people they are terrible at personal relationships, dominant Ayato, submissive Thoma, top Ayato, bottom Thoma, Ayato is incredibly parentified, Thoma has no sense of self-preservation, self-sacrifice isn't a contest but don't tell Ayato and Thoma that, it's like the snipe-the-check game at restaurants but with sex and politics, Kushiel's Impact, no really this was in my drafts for the longest time as Kusheline Thomato Fic, everyone's an adult in this timeline except Ayaka, she gets protected at all costs, original characters out of necessity, finding appropriate existing Inazuma npcs for some of these roles was impossible

Full disclosure, I run almost all of my threads like a Solo D&D campaign, basically meaning that not only are my Threads usually plot-heavy, but they have a narrative start and conclusion to them. (Memes are sometimes the exception to this, but usually I'm able to turn all my threads into something that can go on for a long time. However, 95% of the time this pertains to a thread I write a starter for.)
My Doctor(s) need companions. Each incarnation has a subtle fascination involving being a tour guide. Let's do plots where The Doctor drops onto your doorstep and hits it off with your muse so well that he feels comfortable enough inviting your muse to travel with them, then spend hours talking about how their friendship helps both The Doc and Your muse grow as people and how entering each other's lives helped both parties for the better.
ALIENS!! ALIENS!!! ALIENS!!!!! The Doctor and His Friends always get involved in some type of alien scheme. Let's do a plot where The Doctor and Your Muse get in between an Alien Race and Its malicious scheme and works together to stop them, all the while dishing out banter and witty remarks like this are just another day job for them.
Something Spooky is already going on, The Doctor just so happened to arrive whilst it was already going on, and now he needs to prove his innocence while also helping avert the crisis to the best of his ability.
FOR TIMELORD CHARACTERS- EARLY TIME WAR PLOTS; The Time War has just started, The Scarf Doctor wants to run as far away as he can from it, refusing to get involved. Your muse comes across him trying to help out the best he can- what's their reaction to this once great legend seemingly cowering in fear?
FOR TIMELORD CHARACTERS- MID TO LATE TIME WAR; The War Doctor has taken the place of The Scarf Doctor, and is acting as an independent party in The Time War, resolving battles and conflicts in any way he can. He's a darker character, so what's your reaction to him? What do you do to push him further toward ending the war himself?
FOR STAR WARS / STAR TREK CHARACTERS: This MAN JUST LANDED IN YOUR CARGO HOLD / HOLODECK- WITH HIS STUPID POLICE BOX!!! What are YOU GONNA DO ABOUT IT?! UH-OH!! IT also HAPPENS TO APPEAR IN THE MIDDLE OF A CRISIS!! Do you invite The DOCTOR TO HELP OR ACCUSE HIM OF STARTING THIS CHAOS???
For Companions / Mains: I NPC Daleks sometime. When can I traumatize your muse with a Dalek story?

Backlog: Talking About Indie Games - Flynn: Son of Crimson
Originally I posted this somewhere else early 2022, but I'm trying to consolidate right now.
So Flynn: Son of Crimson was a game I wishlisted on Steam a while back. Could not tell you where I heard of it. Even when I originally wrote this, it was in my wishlist for a while. Turns out, it was also on Game Pass at the time. I reached the 101% achievement in the game. I think overall, the game is good. You can probably get 5 hours out of it in one sitting, but I was taking my time.
Tumblr media
In general, the music is calming. You're not gonna see rock songs here. But it gets intense when it needs to. Someone may argue the art is similar to a lot of other indie titles, but idk what to say. The backgrounds are well detailed, the animations are great.
The enemies have unique attacks and more often than not, have more than one attack for variety. I will say the electric ones were kinda annoying, especially the bees in that cave level where you have to platform just right to avoid electric fish. Like, calm down.
The combat system gives you a decent amount of freedom off the bat. Flynn feels good to control. The dodge roll is great. Only thing that held me back was my own impatience. What do I mean? Well I went the whole story without really uppercutting or down smashing anything. Really only ended up doing those to complete the in-game achievements. Would those attacks have helped my playthrough be somewhat smoother? Possibly a little, but not anything crazy.
The game gives you a lot to fight with in hindsight. However, this is also one of those games where backtracking with all the upgrades is kinda pointless. You only go back to get missing relics that are accessible without most upgrades.
Hero Mode's a thing. That wasn't on the Game Pass version though so i couldn't judge that when I wrote this. Maybe in the future I'll look into it.
Getting all the relics isn't exactly worth it. It really seems to exist for the people to casually find every now and then while messing around in the game. I fall into this category. But I just wasn't interested because there are places in the game you'd THINK would have secrets in them and just...don't. Kinda lessens the impulse to collect everything. Maybe that was intentional from the devs, but who knows? To me though, it just makes certain areas feel like ther could've been less empty space.
I don't want to be one of those people talking about "ThE sToRy dOeSn'T mAtTeR" because this has more going on than some games. I would say the story is told as much in the levels as it is in dialogue. It gives the setting some depth. The Scourge idea with everything on lockdown is great.
As a story though, it's pretty straight forward more or less. I think there were missed opportunities.
Examples:
The NPCs don't say anything new as the story goes on.
There probably could've been a Scourge event n the town Flynn starts in. Full circle and all that.
Flynn clearly has friends his age. They probably never experienced the war people talk about. Perhaps the kids have something to say, yet nothing's said.
Plus, just the overall idea that Flynn is literally more god mode than the literal goddess for no reason. But I wouldn't know how to write around that. So it's hard to judge.
Smaller issues are just what features get screen time. The glider's cool, and it was only there for half a level. The Dex segments happen perhaps a little too late in the game. The backtracking thing feels extra weird when you're never allowed to destroy vine spikes or destroy ice with your fire blasts. Aside from that last point, it's the little things like that could've improved the game if tweaked or given a little bit more time to cook.
But beyond that, it hits all the points it needs to. There's a decent amount packed in here. It even has enemy gauntlet areas. Do I think it's worth buying? Yes. Especially at a sale. The game got good reviews. I don't entirely know if I'd give it the same score that ended up on Metacritic, but I see that for an indie game, for the amount of time you spend on this, the quality, amount of content, and price, I understand. I think it is a very solid game.

Monday Pathfinder 2 update, a bit late! I ramble first a bit about my pacing for this game - typically in our about 2 hour long sessions we get in some RP, a moderately challenging combat encounter, and some closing RP. Sometimes I can cram two easier fights in there but typically I expect to only need one combat for a session (I think we've had none more often than two since we went from 3 players to sometimes 5/6). I wanna run like a full on dungeon exploration thing (preferably before we do more under the sea?) but I'm sure it'll be multiple sessions of a thing. That's just how fast we get through content.
This week they encountered some merfolk by RNG random encounter charts - had a friendly chat, talked to an established goblin NPC again (she rides around on a giant turtle, and is trying to rally people against these undead empires beneath the waves that are a-comin'), then did some Francisco tragic backstory stuff by fighting the slaver (and his current accomplices) that had kidnapped his family - now they're freeing slaves and about to go fucking murder town on the rest of these slave peddling assholes on this island. Gonna. Be. Great.

the first funeral ; self para
September 1976
Weldon Elks was buried on a sunny Sunday morning, in a moving funeral service thrown by his family, who didn’t know anything about him.
Or, at least, they didn’t know how he spent his time. His job was fake, a made-up cover story tailored to fit the night and weekend patrols that few other Order members could stomach.
They didn’t know who his friends were, either. That much was evident. Gideon had handed his coat to somebody when he walked in, streaks of tears staining his face. It was only later that he’d realized it was Weldon’s brother who’d taken his coat – and that he’d forgotten to track it down again before leaving, which explained the cold he fell to in the days that followed. Everywhere in the room, those not too distracted by mourning were finding the time to shoot curious looks at the redheaded twins, inconsolable in the back of the room.
Someone asked Gideon a question, at one point – was he the nephew of so-and-so, the old bastard? Gideon, who was choking on the smell of flowers, accidentally agreed. Not that that stopped the whispering.
Gideon hadn’t been a member of the Order for long, and this was the first death he’d experienced. He hadn’t been there when It (the capital-I infected everyone’s whispers at that point) happened, but the aftermath was difficult to swallow. There would be more lost before the war was over, Gideon knew that. There would be harder sights to stomach, toughing hills to climb. Gideon knew that.
But fresh out of school and barely dispensed of his status as a New Recruit, he couldn’t imagine it. He couldn’t imagine anything more gut wrenching than the sight of Weldon’s sister throwing herself, sobbing, over the edge of the closed casket as if Weldon would wake up within and push the lid open with his infectious laugh. He couldn’t imagine anything more unnerving than the pale looks of all the elderly people in the room who assumed they’d be the firsts – by a long shot – to go.
And none of them even knew why he’d died. Or how. Or for who.
Definitely not for who. The Elks family was a small one, closely knit. Neighbors came and went, cousins struggled to control their children while maintaining their composure. But the main family, Weldon’s real one, stood in the same protected knot at the front of the room.
Weldon’s other family stood together at the back of the room.
Two redheaded twins, a man missing an eyebrow, two blonde woman that had nothing in common save the color of their hair and their penchant for defensive charms, and the space they were saving for Moody or Dumbledore, all the while knowing they wouldn’t show up. They stood just as tightly knit as the other group, murmuring variations of ‘we should say something’ and ‘we should leave.’
All around them, everyone else murmured, ‘who are those people?’
When Molly got married, Gideon and Fabian had delivered their toast the same way they’d done everything up to that point in their lives – together. They’d come into the world together, entered school together, watched their sister float down the aisle as a bride together. Joined the Order together. They were together today, too. Standing at the back of the funeral hope. There was no speech – eulogy, Gideon reminded himself, it’s called a eulogy – to deliver today. Not together. And certainly not for Gideon.
That honor (was it an honor, though?) belonged to Weldon’s partner Tristan.
Gideon had nothing to read, which was good because he had nothing to say.
Or, rather, he had too much to say.
Too much to say and no time given to say it, surrounded by a roomful of people that did not know who he was and did not understand why he looked every bit as upset as the rest of them. Not that Gideon could blame them for their confusion. He didn’t know any of them, either.
Even among the tearful clan of Order members who’d shown up to mourn, Gideon didn’t feel known. He’d begun to think of them as his family, in the loosest of terms. But his real family was beside him: Fabian hadn’t let go of his arm since they walked in, and Gideon knew he wouldn’t drop it until – until, not unless – he twisted it free of his own accord. He was grateful for it. He hated it, too.
Tristan (Gideon didn’t know his last name and felt an unpleasant twist of satisfaction in that fact) stood up to give the eulogy at one point, and it didn’t last long. It was a tidy, emotional thing, which had clearly been written and rewritten until it sounded perfect. Perfect, but dry. Perfect, but cold.
There was nothing cold about his face when he fell into silence. Someone tried to be helpful, prompted him along. Asked if he had ‘any last words.’ That blow fell suddenly and heavily against everyone in the room. There was something so sinking, so final about it. Last words. It was a concept that none of them could grasp, even after spending their day in this cramped, perfumed room talking around the idea of death to honor a man who was already dead. Who could not hear them. Eyes searched for eyes, looking for answers even on the faces of those they did not know. Did Tristan have any last words? Did anyone have any last words?
Oh, god, Gideon heard someone whisper, closer to the front of the room. It was a woman’s voice, but he couldn’t see where it came from, or from whom. Did Weldon have any last words?
It was a rhetorical question. Of course he’d had. But that didn’t change the fact that a sickly confusion was now spreading through the room. It was a mix of people realizing that they didn’t know exactly how Weldon had died. It was a mess of people realizing that everyone there would eventually have last words, and that somebody might not be around to hear them.
Gideon thought about wrenching his arm away from Fabian. He held onto his brother more tightly, instead.
Last words…last words about Weldon? It didn’t seem possible. What it seemed was ridiculously simplistic, especially because of all the things still unsaid.
Like the fact that Weldon had faked a work conference out of town for a long weekend just because one of the youngest Order recruits was having panic attacks about her glitching shield charms and he wanted the uninterrupted time to coax and coach her through it; Gideon had gone too, lounged on a couch nearby and watched Weldon’s wrist snapping with the elegant confidence of a swimmer.
Or the fact that Weldon spent every Christmas Eve cooking a dinner for Order members who had no families to go back to, or didn’t feel safe returning home. He’d looked genuinely stricken when the Prewett twins mentioned that they’d be spending the pre-holiday at Molly’s. He’d pressed a plate of still-warm leftovers into Gideon’s hands the next time they saw each other after New Year’s.
“I want to go home,” Gideon whispered to Fabian. For a moment, he worried his brother hadn’t heard. But then an identical chin gave a slight, understated nod. Neither of them moved yet, but they’d made the transition from staying to leaving. They were treading water through the uncomfortable grey space in between. Fabian’s eyes flickered toward the exit, mapping out – it was unlike him, unlike the both of them – the least intrusive path possible. Gideon’s eyes stayed fixed on Tristan.
They’d almost kissed once, Gideon and Weldon. At the time, Gideon chalked it up to his imagination. There had been drinks, and they were talking the same way they’d always talked, and nothing had happened at all. But there had been a moment…a look. Something heavy and tangible had passed between them in that moment, and the only thing that stood between a grieving Gideon and a guilty Gideon now was the fact that neither of them had leaned in, and that nobody else knew.
Gideon did not remember arriving home. He only remembered the heavy sensation of falling into bed and passing out almost immediately, some faint half-conscious awareness of Fabian telling him he needed rest to feel better. Pulling the blankets around himself to block out the light, Gideon also remembered being seized by a fleeting, desperate hope that he’d sleep peacefully and long enough to dull the overwhelming effect of all that had happened that day. That day, and in the weeks leading up to it. He just wanted to sleep easy.
He did not.
That was the sleep that brought his nightmares for the first time.
When Gideon woke up, visions of his bloodied and tortured family still swam before his eyes, ripping him out of sleep and shoving him into a world of cold sweat and a dark, lonely bedroom. It was the first time he realized he might never sleep easy again. Not until the war was over; not until he’d done everything possible to make sure his family was safe.
He needed to make sure both of his families were safe.
He didn’t want to have a funeral with a dividing line to separate the people that knew only a certain side of him. He didn’t want to stand in the back of the room watching more of his friends carried away by pallbearers to find new rest beneath the ground. He didn’t want to stand at the front of the room, either, knotted into a grieving family unit and forced to read out platitudes about people who couldn’t be dissolved down into a few neat words on a page.
All in all, Gideon had slept fourteen hours. He didn’t feel rested at all.
He stood up, still in his clothes from the day before, and didn’t break stride until he arrived at Order Headquarters. He’d been scheduled to have the next few days off but undid that with a stubborn wave of his hand. The next mission, he insisted. Whatever you’ve got. I’m in.
It was better, he reasoned, than somebody else having to go.

Sunday 25/9/21 - Media Recommendations #19
Contents:
Twilight Princess (Manga)
Dr Stone (manga/anime)
Tumblr media
Lately, I have had a lot I want to write about on this blog, but lack that activation energy to actually start writing an article. Ideally I will at least word vomit more onto the blog in the coming week or so, because I have the topics in mind, just unsure how to start any of it.
Media Consumption has also slowed to a crawl, but I'm getting back into it. This week I wanna discuss a manga series I've been reading slowly as it has released, and an anime I have long been reading the manga for.
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess (Manga)
Akira Himekawa
Tumblr media
Zelda fans have a unique schism between their fans that many other longer running series may not experience. Because most games star a relatively unique cast of characters, a unique spin on the world, gameplay, and even artistic style, what your favourite in the series is will throw you into a hard debate against fans of other games. There's this post i saw somewhere(?) once where it was said your favourite Zelda game is the one that came out when you were 12, presumably because this is the one you experience first, or at least earlier in your Zelda journey, and I can completely relate to that.
The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess was the first Zelda game I played, and it has been my number 1 or 2 in the series consistently. Compared to the games that came before it, it was darker, had a richer world, and just a grander scope. But today I'm not here to explain the game, I'm here to talk about the manga.
Tumblr media
Akira Himekawa is a pseudonym for a pair of female manga artists that have been writing manga together since the early 90s, and I know them well for their Legend of Zelda adaptations. They have covered most of the main games everyone knows, Ocarina of Time, Majoras Mask, A Link to the Past, and even a couple volumes of Four Swords Adventures. Their most recent work has also been the most long and in depth adaptation, my first Zelda game, Twilight Princess.
Like all of their Zelda adaptations, Akira Himekawa's Twilight Princess follows all the same plot beats as the main games. The order places are visited, the main characters Link encounters, the dungeons and their bosses, but the mangaka add... more to the world. Link has a deeper back story explaining what led to the start of the adventure. What in the games are essentially blank slate NPCs become characters in their own rights with personalities and arcs and motivations. The Twilight Realm, which is essentially just a dungeon in the game, is fleshed out as its entire world, with society, and lore.
Tumblr media
In the game, Link is cool, and a bit of a himbo, but the manga's take on him is so much more interesting. He's a brooding edge lord, with a damaged past. He's a do-gooder, but he's also flawed and suffers from caring too much. Link is a character full of regrets who constantly bounces between "become a hero to prevent the atrocities of the past coming back" and "give up so that you don't make things worse". I understand that the games leave Link as a blank slate so that players can fill in their own ideals, but seeing Link as a fully fleshed character with his own motivations is cool as hell.
The supporting cast is similarly fleshed out compared to the game's take. Zelda, Illia, and Midna have complex motivations and evolving personalities. Midna was already a great character, but the manga truly does not skip out on making her deep and interesting. The "Resistance", for those who've played the game, are all multilayered characters now, all with arcs that are actively explored as they actually go help Link on his adventures, instead of just telling him info and leaving him to it. The dungeons do not take nearly as much plot time as they do in the games, essentially minimal theme building and then boss, but this works better for the format in my opinion.
Tumblr media
If you like high fantasy manga, or are just a Zelda fan, I highly recommend this series. I haven't finished reading it, but Book 9, which I think is the final in the series, has recently been released in English. Obviously playing the game first is a good background, but I think you could 100% enjoy the series without it.
Edit: Finished book 9 and there's definitely at least one more book to go.
Dr Stone (anime/manga)
Inagaki, Boichi; TMS Entertainment
Tumblr media
Ok so must I remember wrong because I thought I recommended this one, but apparently I never talked about Dr Stone before, which is a complete travesty. But now I am both up to date with the manga and most of a season deep into the anime, and I have A LOT to talk about.
As those who have also read my dinosaur blogposts will understand, I am a big science nerd. Biology, palaeontology, space, chemistry, it's all so interesting, and sometimes I struggle to understand how a passion for science is not a universal human experience. I share that in common with the main character of a manga I've been reading for maybe a year now, Dr Stone.
Tumblr media
In Dr Stone, the world of 21st Century humanity is brought crashing to a halt when a bright wave of mysterious light blankets the entire planet, and everywhere on the entire globe, humans have been turned to stone. 3700 years later, a young man who has kept his mind active within the stone forces himself awake and breaks out. Around him, nature has reclaimed the Earth and millennia of human progress has been all but buried.
Tumblr media
Senku is a young man of science, and spent years obsessing over every scientific domain he could comprehend in order to one day travel to space. In this stone world, armed with this wealth of science progress in his mind, Senku begins efforts to restart the scientific age, and free every single person frozen in stone. He starts with a mysterious acid that breaks down the stone. Then he develops tools, machinery, electricity, and eventually, he wants to push humanity back to the space age within his lifetime. Senku may be a know it all, but knowledge only gets you so far. Thanks to the allies he makes, a wealth of expertise will be harnessed to bring his dream to fruition.
Dr Stone is a must read for anyone who enjoys Scifi. Although the rate at which progress is made seems absurd, every single scientific process the kingdom of science works on is real science. Although post apocalyptic themes establish the base for the story and the supernatural force that turned humanity to stone is the main adversary, Dr Stone is a very scientific story based on real Earth and its just... exhilarating!
Tumblr media
The scope of the story begins on the small scale in primitive villages, but the story eventually reaches a global scale. There are adversaries at each step, those who wish to rule the Stone World with might, free of the tyranny science had in our age, and there are also those who wish to use science as its own form of might, but Senku and his allies want to use science for the benefit of everyone. So that one day, all of humanity will be restored, and that eventually, he will get to moon.
I will refrain from speaking any further on story specifics because you really should experience the plot for yourself. So I will end with the presentation itself. The art and format of the manga are beautiful. Character designs are rugged, stylised, and exciting, it's very easy to determine what a character is all about just by their unique appearance.
Tumblr media
In the last week, I have begun watching the anime, as it has been long enough since I started reading that I can experience parts of the plot anew. The anime is very beautifully made, the world is lush and beautiful, and characters move in such a fun and interesting way. I'm watching the English dub, and characters sound exactly like the voices I had for them in my head.
If you have even an inkling of interest in Dr Stone after reading what I've said today, you should definitely experience the story for yourself, 1 billion percent.

BnHA Chapter 283: I'M MARY POPPINS Y’ALL
Previously on BnHA: Everyone was all, “Tomura what do you have?” and Tomura was all,” a quirk bullet!” and they were all, “NO!!” He then threw the bullet at Aizawa, who ironically actually did have a knife, and since no one bothered to say “no!!” this time he proceeded to CHOP OFF HIS OWN LEG. Just, schwoop. Lopped it right off. Didn’t even fucking care. Anyway so then Tomura was all, “you know what who even needs quirk bullets” and somehow broke free from both Deku and Ryuukyuu to go claw off Aizawa’s face. Thankfully Todoroki “I've spent the past eight chapters puttering around waiting for the coolest moment to strike” Shouto finally decided to join the fray by impaling Tomura, and everyone was all, “ahaha, classic Shouto”, and Tomura was all, “don’t worry though I’m fine”, and it seems like he really is now, since he’s finally regenerated and all his wounds have healed again! The chapter ended with Gigantomachia stampeding towards Jakku, which is super terrible, but what else is fucking new.
Today on BnHA: The Gunga kids spend a few pages standing around letting all that trauma soak in nice and deep as Machia rampages on towards Jakku. Back in the Shigaraki Wastes, the heroes regroup, which mostly consists of the remaining conscious adults tearfully being all “you kids get out of here... save yourselves...” and the kids being all “YOU JUST SIT THERE AND CHILL, DAD” and “[EXPLETIVES]” and “I’M YOUNG AND FILLED WITH RIGHTEOUS SHOUNEN RAGE”, all of which is very entertaining to me and makes me very proud. Anyway so then Tomura’s body sort of explodes a bit, and he’s all, “what”, and then it finally sinks in that he might have popped out of the toaster early, so he tries to end the fight right there and then with another round of Decay. Except that Deku counters it by SPONTANEOUSLY LEARNING HOW TO FLY, which is probably SO CONFUSING for all the non-Gran-and-Kacchan people around, which is just one of the many things I love about it. And the other things I love about it are that it’s (1) THE MOST BADASS THING EVER, and (2) just, really fucking great. So yeah. Rage, Deku, rage.
OH NO MY BABIES
Tumblr media
don’t tell me. I’m not sure I want to know what it is they’re looking at. how many of the pros are fucking dead now ffffmg
also that is an extremely intriguing chapter title, though. 75? as in percent?? oh my god is something finally going to go fucking right for our heroes. or at least, you know, less wrong
OOOF
Tumblr media
dammit Momo he was supposed to go to sleep! WHAT THE HELL WAS ALL OF THAT MATH FOR, THEN. did he grow bigger, or did she just somehow miscalculate the dosage, or is he finally going to go night-night halfway to Jakku?
btw Momo I’m not actually mad at you, you’re still the only one who fucking did anything at all. if anyone tries to give you shit, just look them in the eye and ask them “okay and how many things did YOU do?”, and they’ll be like, “oh shit, none”, and you’ll be all “yeah that’s what I fucking thought” because YEAH
OH MY GOD SERO ANGST
Tumblr media
I have never seen Sero this badly shaken before. it’s somehow so shocking?? holy shit you guys, I know I’ve been saying for ages “lolo all these kids about to be traumatized af” but somehow it’s one thing to know it’s coming, and another to finally actually see it. oh god
anyway let’s just hope all of the grown-ups aren’t actually fucking dead. but based on all of the kids’ expressions, it really feels like a lot of them might be, and that’s just... ...
and they had to see it. right? is that what this is implying?? holy shit. they watched it all happen. that’s it, the rest of this arc is cancelled, please proceed directly to the emergency therapy arc right now
TOKO!!
Tumblr media
holy shit look at the size of that rock that fell on the medical tent. and DS pulling people out of the wreckage. it really feels like everywhere you turn this arc, the intrepid young scamps of U.A.’s first year hero class are the ones out here keeping things one step from total disaster
oh shit
Tumblr media
excuse the hell out of me young Momo but what the hell is up with this use of the word “dead” with the implied “like everyone else” hanging there at the end?? what is up with that. that’s a very bad sentence I don’t like that at ALL
and what the actual hell is this panel of FATGUM AND TAMAKI IN THE MIDDLE OF THE CARNAGE, TWO PEOPLE WHOSE NAMES I’M QUITE SURE ARE ON THIS CONTRACT OF “PEOPLE WHO AREN’T ALLOWED TO DIE” WHICH HORIKOSHI IMPLICITLY AGREED TO THE MOMENT I STARTED READING THE MANGA. BOY WHAT
JESUS MOTHER F. CHRIST
Tumblr media
THAT’S. THAT’S, UH
OH THANK FUCK
Tumblr media
I mean, I already knew they survived, though. so WHY AM I STILL SO FUCKING ANXIOUS. good grief
and in before Majestic fucking dies on the next page, having saved the children with his very last act. I fucking hate you Majestic, you blue-balling child-preserving magnificent wizard bastard
HE FRISBEED THEM TO SAFETY GAH
Tumblr media
WHY COULDN’T YOU DO THAT TO MACHIA THOUGH. BUT AT LEAST HE SAVED THE BABIES. TOO BAD HE’S FUCKING DEAD hahaha sob sob sob
is anyone still alive?? did the guys who were fighting off Snoopy Sno-Cone and RD back at the mansion at least make it out in one piece??
(ETA: from here on out all of these guys shall be referred to as Schrodinger's Heroes until further notice.)
so now Mineta is questioning whether or not their Smart Momo Plan even fucking did anything, which. same, Mineta, honestly. but it must have!! right?? ????
anyway so here’s some more panels of everyone dying do you want to see them. sure. why not
Tumblr media
can we get back to the Tomura fight now. I’ve had just about enough of this, I’d like to see some 75% business now before this turns into the most depressing chapter of all time
BOOOOOOO
Tumblr media
goddammit. well for now my money’s on Machia collapsing just as they make it back to Jakku. so Momo’s plan does eventually work, but the League still makes it back to Tomura thus ensuring more shenanigans can take place. goddamn, lol, just when I thought the arc was nearing its climax. feels like it just fucking respawned with a full life bar
also Toga is really looking... not great. I’m so scared for whoever she ends up fighting after this. OCHAKO MY SWEET BABY GIRL PLEASE WATCH OUT
WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE
Tumblr media
PLEASE ARREST HIM FASTER. holy fuck if you fucking screw this up and he gets rescued I SWEAR TO GOD
oh wait is he just here to provide more backstory on Gigantomachia
Tumblr media
GO BURNIN’, YOU GOT THIS. also, gonna be honest, at this point I really would not mind if Machia did a little less living for Tomura and a bit more dying
FINALLY!!!
Tumblr media
FKFKF Aizawa not looking too good oh god. and Deku looks like he’s about to spontaneously develop ALL OF HIS REMAINING QUIRKS JUST LIKE THAT ON THE SPOT, FUCK YOU TOMURA
oh my god DON’T GET DISTRACTED!!
Tumblr media
Shouto’s arrival is either about to make Endeavor more useless than ever, or suddenly a whole lot LESS useless, and right now it’s up in the air and I am excited but also scared
EXCUSES EXCUSES
Tumblr media
BLAH BLAH BLAH. “SORRY I’M LATE, I WAS SAVING PEOPLE’S LIVES,” Shouto lies through his teeth, clearly not aware that Tomura has a built in GPS and knows full well that Shouto was actually only a few feet behind Bakugou and Deku and so that explanation doesn’t fly at all. the real truth must be something so embarrassing that he’s ashamed to admit it. did you get lost. did you run into an NPC who wouldn’t let you pass until you had completed some sort of quest
THERE YOU ARE KACCHAN, I WAS WONDERING
Tumblr media
just as enraged as Deku! it’s almost like he just witnessed his sensei chopping off his own leg and subsequently almost being murdered or something
(ETA: actually lol I think he’s mad at Deku, for taking off earlier and leaving him behind with Gran. though there’s no law that says he can’t be mad about two things at once! anyway so do you guys think that being beaten to the punch by Deku here may perhaps frustrate this young man and contribute to his decision to return the favor at some point later on in this battle, perhaps with dire consequences? hmm.)
anyway so if you all are keeping up with the math, and I think you are, it seems like just about every one of the adult pros is either down for the count (Aizawa, Gran), or recovering (Endeavor, Ryuukyuu??), or Might As Well Not Even Be There (a certain TWO OTHER PEOPLE WHO ARE STILL IN A TIME OUT AND HAD BETTER BE THINKING GOOD AND HARD ABOUT WHAT THEY’VE DONE. OR MORE PRECISELY, DID NOT DO OR EVEN ATTEMPT TO DO). anyway so all of that means that the only ones actually ready and raring to go here in Round 2 against the newly regenerated and POSSIBLY HAS HIS DECAY QUIRK BACK Shigaraki Tomura are... drum roll...!
okay but FUCK YOU GUYS though oh my god YOU’RE EVEN RUINING THE DRUM ROLL
Tumblr media
DID YOU NOT EVEN NOTICE HIS LEG BEFORE?!?!? holy -- can I -- can I please just slap them, I --
anyway so RockLockRock looks like he has something to say here. probably going to tell Deku to take Aizawa and run, as if Deku isn’t the fucking glue holding this entire operation together at this point now that Aizawa is KOed. can you believe these guys are so incompetent they’ve actually got me arguing in favor of the child soldiers now, what even
...fuck
Tumblr media
shit. that face. he’s ready to die to give them all a chance. he knows he wouldn’t last two seconds against Tomura and yet he’s willing to sacrifice it all. damn it RLR... okay fine your time out is done now, but I’m still calling your parents
unfortunately, you’ll never believe it, but Deku doesn’t seem all that inclined to listen to this man telling him to bail and save his own skin sob
Tumblr media
ngl though I am living for the Enraged Vengeance Deku we’ve been seeing in these last couple chapters. maybe now everyone will stop dismissing him as just a soft boi who always eats his vegetables and doesn’t swear, and remember that in truth he’s actually a mildly unhinged feral child with an infinite pain tolerance and a god-given talent for never listening to any life-prolonging advice that adults give him ever
oop don’t tell me he’s gonna do the Decay thing again, shit
Tumblr media
-- uh
Tumblr media
“eh?” lmao what the fuck. my boy's torso just opened up like a fucking door hinge and all he can say is “eh.” this fucking manga
like he’s seriously just calmly standing there trying to assess what the heck has gone wrong
Tumblr media
you really don’t feel pain do you. “haha lol what why is my arm falling off I thought I fucking ascended”
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
IT’S OCTOBER THIRD. looool the fuck
Tomura. my sweet little S+ ranked death machine with an A rank in knowledge. who’s spent the past 15-20 minutes battling to the death with the number one fucking hero and all his pals. who all just HAPPENED to be there all ready and waiting to fight him the instant he woke up. Tomura. buddy. did it really only just occur to you that maybe something went wrong somewhere along the line. that maybe things were not, in fact going according to keikaku. that maybe the heroes didn’t just sit around waiting for you to finish cooking in your villain bake oven. like please forgive my impudence but TOMURA ARE YOU STUPID, is what I’m saying, I guess. but gently
(ETA: SHIGARAKI TOMURA, WHOSE ARM IS CURRENTLY DANGLING BY A THREAD: “hold up lol what day is it.”)
I really like how Deku’s just crying nonstop this entire time though. but like, you know. crying with RAGE
Tumblr media
lol and he’s figured it out as well, and I fucking love the connection his mind made, look at this
Tumblr media
sudden feelings of solidarity. “WE’RE NOT SO DIFFERENT, YOU AND I” lmao
AHH MIRKO
Tumblr media
how does she still have two legs?? Horikoshi I can’t believe you forgot how many legs your own favorite character has. but anyways yes this has been your friendly reminder that Mirko saved EVERYONE and should have a battleship named after her
okay NOW he’s doing the thing
Tumblr media
good job Tomura you finally got them!! good thing none of them can fly, or Float. RIGHT, DEKU
AHAHAHAHAHA YESSSSS
Tumblr media
YOU LOVE TO SEE IT. AND A BLACKWHIP/FLOAT COMBO, TOO! TOMURA, YOU WERE SAYING??
(ETA: he even grabbed Kacchan too. “I can fly by myself!” YOU SHUSH MISTER.)
(ETA 2: and what I also love about this is that we know the SIXQUIRKS are seemingly in tune with Deku’s emotions, so it honestly makes perfect sense that in the heat of the moment with Tomura threatening to kill all these people that he cares about, the quirk just basically acts on his instinct to save and doesn’t stop to ask questions. we’re saving everyone, no buts. and he even activates Float at long last, acting on that same instinct. honestly Kacchan had the exact right idea the whole time, all the way back in chapter 217. “it’ll activate when he’s in trouble, right?” exactly.)
NO GRAN STOP NO ONE ASKED FOR THESE FEELS
Tumblr media
OH MY GOD
Tumblr media
NEVER HAVE I STANNED THIS BOY SO HARD. HOT DAMN
he’s so fucking mad. omg??! omg
okay so I’m gonna try my best to explain why I love this so much lol. all right. so the thing is, it’s actually so rare for Deku to actually take the reins like this. even though he’s the main character, even though he’s All Might’s heir, his personality is such that he genuinely doesn’t mind being in the backseat and is perfectly content to share the spotlight with others, or even relinquish it completely. BnHA has had... how many arcs so far? hold up let me check
-- okay I just checked and it’s 18. so, 18 arcs. and out of all those arcs, Deku has had a solo fight in approximately... five of them. and two of those fights were against Bakugou and Todoroki, respectively, so he was still sharing the spotlight even then. aside from that, he’s fought Muscular, Gentle, and Overhaul (oh, and Shinsou, I guess). that’s it! and it’s been almost 300 chapters! and again, he’s the main character. in a shounen manga. like seriously though, that is wild
and so seeing him here like this on the last page, ready to throw hands with Tomura, presumably while using Blackwhip as some sort of physical barrier to coat his attacks and prevent Tomura from trying any more Decay shenanigans with him? dude. I FELT THAT HYPE. it’s just a really effective way of keeping me from getting Main Character Fatigue like I might get in most other shounen series. because Deku doesn’t get the spotlight all that often in comparison, it still feels fresh to me, especially now with him actually going up against the Big Bad. just, idk what else to say except “hell yeah” lol
anyway, so I don’t even know how long it’s gonna last, and I expect that Kacchan and Shouto aren’t going to be content to just sit back and let Deku have all the glory either (Kacchan in particular is probably frothing at the mouth already), so in all likelihood it’s probably going to be more of a 3-on-1 than a 1-on-1. and it’s also very likely to end with Tomura gaining the upper hand and trying to take OFA! and so in truth this is a very fleeting moment of triumph, and the most premature of celebrations! but even so... damn. and also I just love seeing shounen kids lose their damn minds and explode with angry determination. and I especially love seeing it with Deku, because I love the reminder that beneath that sweet, unassuming nerdy exterior lies a core of fucking steel. that look in his eyes, though. TOMURA ARE YOU SCARED. you should be a little scared, lmao
anyway. so that’s the chapter! and I’m really glad we ended on this note, not just because Deku is a badass, but also because like I was saying earlier, this was about as bad a situation as the good guys have ever been in, and I felt like the manga was starting to lose that feeling of hope that still needs to be there at its core even when things are at their darkest. idk, I feel like we needed this. Tomura got a chance to catch his breath in the last chapter, and now it’s the heroes’ turn. whew

Fable IV rant:
I'm so pumped up for the 23rd because everything has led me to believe that Fable 4 will be announced this year and the game's existence has been confirmed for a while anyway it's just a matter of time of when will Fable 4 show itself. It's a badly kept secret tbh.
So to those who don't mind a big rant or wish to add on to my rant- here we go!
Can you imagine how good the graphics would be for this game, we've all seen modern games, surely, and they're all bloody fantastic looking. Fable Legends is technically the most recent Fable game despite it being a free to play online game
and that it's cancelled
but it also had a gorgeous look to it all! And the character models did great justice to the concept art and honestly that has my hopes real high because I love the concept art of Fable, specifically from Mike McCarthy, so exaggerated and recognisable- yet in all the games I can confidently say they did not do justice to his character design, specifically for Reaver. Sure, he looks stunning in the third game, but not quite what he looks like in his concept art sadly.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
But also, since Fable was made in Unreal Engine (I'm pretty sure at least) we've seen examples of what can be done in Unreal Engine now and it's absolutely breath taking!
If you haven't seen here are some examples and they're so life-like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moving on from graphics!
Since Playground Games is behind the development of Fable 4, they would be spectacular at an open spaced world, judging from the Forza games.
I always loved the open world feature added to Fable, it made things more adventurous and you could do so many things that weren't at all related to the main quest to progress the story and it was just thrilling to see there were other things going on! I'd love to just have my dog companion running through fields, fighting enemies left and right and finding buried treasure or forgotten chests.
Run into strangers who request aid in something silly or rather serious and it would be up to you with how you go about the quest or if you even accept it to get renown or gold. Cause a massacre in towns and villages, running off with low morality and plentiful loot- oh one could fantasise of this all day.
Story, characters, writing and voices.
Fable has always had a fun environment of fantasy and a rather good story (despite the curse of mundane or pathetic boss fights in which I hope Fable 4 breaks this cycle) but the one thing that's always kept me on my feet in the games is the writing and the characters. It always just tried not to take itself too seriously, throwing in absurd quests that probably requires cheese or a really weird-looking outfit. It always kept my attention rather than just pure edge and seriousness of life or death.
The characters are a given, the writing done for them all is perfect in my eyes, I love hearing the variations of how characters of NPCs interacted (enough so that I even bought two of the Fable books written by Peter David). Despite Fable 3 not being the greatest at it's time, I found myself absolutely enjoy the characters for how they were- I even cried over Walter's death because it genuinely felt like I lost somebody pretty close (RIP Walter🙏). The writing and the chosen voice actors were superb and I'd love more of it.
I hope this time we can receive a full story instead of how Fable 2 and 3 were where plenty of plot points and such were cut out due to time constraints- thanks Microsoft, very cool. I'm still in anguish when listening to the Developer's Diary 3 of Fable 3 hearing lines that were just never said in the final product and it was definitely not just additional lines that weren't required as it seemed to mention entirely different things that weren't in the game; i.e. Reaver talks about his pirates in Bloodstone and how he misses them- in the final product he never mentions it and it's even shown that he's tried to completely bury his pirate past for whatever reason.
The pacing in Fable 3 was rather strange too, it felt like the revolution should've lasted longer.
Another hope of mine is to have choices that aren't so painfully black-and-white because it's very obvious which is the good or bad option to a scenario- personally for me I'd like to be morally grey rather than pure good or pure evil.
They better have kept the mechanic of your actions affecting your appearance too to the point where you grow horns and get cracked magma-like skin or this slight glow and aura around you and this flawless skin. It kind of died down in Fable 3, only looking more tired or have completely black eyes and the good- eh yeah not much I can say for when you're good. Purity and corruption seemed to also vanish in Fable 3 (at least I think) since you couldn't really change prices of the homes you were renting out, unless I've been a big goof who didn't arrange the rent prices in the game because I didn't know how.
Combat
Combat in all the games was rather straight forward, especially in Fable 2 and 3 where everything was just easy to beat or you could get overpowered around the start of the game. I'd hope the combat improves greatly this time and even bring back real consequences to dying instead of immediate revival with some lost experience and a scar. We need more serious consequences to your actions (this can be applied to all decisions rather than just if you die in a battle) even if it's just having to reload the last checkpoint. Makes things more challenging this way.
Another thing is to make boss fights less repetitive and simple- sure I can forgive it if the boss is from around the start but if they had phases you had to keep ontop of and didn't rely on summoning a bajillion other enemies to strike you, I'd be ever so grateful.
And if there's other characters fighting along side you, I'd hope they'd genuinely be helpful and keep up to speed with the player. I'm sure the AI in the past was the problem for this as AI wasn't at its best during that time so characters fighting by you didn't do too much or just did whatever that wasn't helpful. Now though, AI has improved immensely (I mean look at The Last Of Us 2, the AI is👌) and due to this, I'm sure characters would make battles more fun and the characters be more involved with the fight and even story.
Mana should be brought back as well, in Fable 2 and 3 mana just ceased to exist so you could just endlessly and repeatedly use the same spells and it just gave you too much power and the enemies barely stood a chance.
We need challenges people- CHALLENGES!
Medieval times? Yes.
I love Medieval fantasy and as much as I like the Victorian era too, I didn't think it quite suited Fable, as fascinating as it was to see fantasy turn industrial, it kind of took away from the Fable feel that I so crave. If they have indeed brought the game back to medieval times it means more creatures and enemies are back rather than driven away or limited to the same handful of enemies.
We can all also agree the guns were overpowered, though I did like receiving the Red Dragon late in Fable 2 to absolutely mow down enemies, it was satisfying to say the least. However, guns were far too powerful for the game, so I demand the bows and crossbows back thank you very much- or even throwing knives- I'll take what I'm given.
I'd love to see more of the natural landscape rather than towns or buildings that took over once entirely natural areas (Millfields/Bowerlake). However, I won't object to ruins of old buildings taken over by nature.
Skeptical with Playground Games? Don't be.
Are you worried that Playground Games wouldn't do justice to Fable since it's not Lionhead Studios? Don't be, it's been noted that Playground Games has hired several ex-lionhead workers and plenty other skillful workers to ensure we get the best product. I have high hopes and expectations for Fable 4 even if it's developed under a different studio, I've seen great things from them and I will believe they'll deliver us only the best.
Side note to all this
I will crash and burn if I don't see a crumb of Reaver or Jack of Blades in Fable 4- I don't know how true any rumours are of Fable 4 with time travelling and Jack returning, but we'll just have to see. Reaver still remains as my absolute favourite character of all time and I'd love to see more of him, even see him before he was 'Reaver'.
Jack too, more of his lore is stated elsewhere rather than in the game itself and I'd love to see it all be brought into light and really expand on his lore and make it known- rather than have ever-loving Fable fans like me dig around for these rather delicious bits of canon information.
That's my big rant, feel free to share your thoughts and what you'd look forward to!
Have some accidental art leaks from a Playground Game concept artist- believed to be for Fable 4👀
