I completely understand why it's inappropriate and wrong to police peoples internet experience and how they view their favorite characters and what not but it's also extremely important to understand that if someone throws away a character's personality and important traits away to shove their own ideologies and beliefs into them to 'mold' them into a 'perfected' version of themselves then it's often a tell tall sign of how they treat their personal relationships.

The internet has become a fictitious reality with virtually no consequences and a lot of people can no longer dictate fiction from reality.

Obviously this does not apply to everyone, just because someone molds and changes a character in fiction does not guarantee they will do it in real life, but also be aware that reality dictates fiction, and if they're willing to do it (to the extreme) in fiction, some part of them would be willing to try it in real life.

I'm definitely approaching the building part a bit ass-backwards due to the post-apocalypse of it all. I started this save with everything I intend to build already placed in the neighborhood:

Two of the five we've yet to even set foot near, but they're there, and have been all the way back to the very beginning.

Where the re-building comes in is in how these lots are adapted and repurposed to meet the needs of our small but mighty (and hopefully ever-growing!) community. A small early example of this is the "expansion" of Octavia's space into one of the storage units adjoining the office space she's been living out of, but with time it will look more like:

households moving into and out of lots as more households and worlds are unlocked

switching lot types as more are unlocked via gameplay or as community needs change

build mode additions or aesthetic improvements that go along with those changes

Obviously we won't be staying in just one neighborhood (or just one world!) forever, but my plan is to tackle future neighborhoods the same way. This isn't why I chose to do a post-apocalyptic take on the BACC but it is a major benefit for how I prefer to play. I've done another hybrid gameplay/building challenge (in my pre-simblr days), the Build Newcrest challenge, and did enjoy it but found it limiting having to wait until a lot type was unlocked by completing a generation to start building. This way I can have gameplay centralized in one neighborhood, already be building in other(s), and switch it up between working on either based on my mood! 😇

It's hard to offer specific advice (not that you're asking for any! lol) without knowing your gameplay style, etc. but if there's a way you can think of to modify the default rules to make it a better fit for you, you should go for it! And bonus points if you can weave it into the lore of your community and whatnot! ✨

Also about the mgs1 guidebook, Vulcan Raven was recruited to Outer Heaven. Vulcan Raven most likely never met the real Big Boss, he most likely met Venom.

Which gets me thinking. Besides Ocelot, the creator of this problem, most of the villains in that game probably only met one or the other, and never knew that they were talking about different men when they talked about who they respected, idolized, loved or even hated. It’s kinda fascinating

there is honestly sooo much evidence that Brenner used Henry to "breed" Eleven and all of the other kids at Hawkins Lab:

we never learn anything about who El’s biological father is. it's never even posed as a really tangible question. all we know about Terry's pregnancy was that it was a surprise, and they were all worried about it since she was in the middle of doing these supposed "drug experiments" at the lab, which was also used as a cover for taking away El, blaming a "miscarriage."

if Terry was under the influence, she likely would not have ever been aware that she had been artificially inseminated.

Henry is of the right age for Brenner to have collected sperm samples from him. quick math with some science thrown in: El was 8 in 1979 and Henry was 32 (per the fandom wiki). therefore, when El was conceived, Henry would have been 23/24. we don't know the ages of the other kids at the lab, but there don't seem to be many who are older than Eleven. some of the kids who assaulted her looked like they could have been 15-18 (though this also depends on how much we're aging down the actors like the main cast lol). regardless, even if we ballpark one of the older kids being 18, Henry would have been 13/14 at the time of conception. people who produce semen can start developing sperm as soon as puberty begins, which can start as early as 11 years old. as icky as it feels, i would not put it past Brenner to take samples from Henry the instant he was viable.

the fact that there are age gaps between all of the kids is evidence that Brenner didn't want to raise any red flags about the pregnancies in his test subjects. it seems like anywhere from 1-4 kids at the lab could be around the same age, so Brenner would have played it safe by inseminating just a few women at a time to not raise any alarms.

Brenner admitted that Henry was difficult to control, so that would lead him to try and get "fresh" minds that he could mold from infancy so the kids wouldn't try to fight against him and would do exactly what he asked. he needed to be sure they'd have powers to begin with, though, so of course he tried taking from the only source he had.

this is less evidence, but just something the scene after Henry helps El and he gets physically punished for it reminds me of. him being tasered reminds me of livestock being physically reprimanded into behaving a certain way (ie. taser = cattle prod). and, hey, if you want good cattle, you breed your best bull.

and now, less quantifiable stuff to point at, but more evidence by way of the storytelling of the series... i talked about it in depth in this post where i discussed my personal thoughts and hopes for how they elaborate on the relationship between El and Henry, but to sum it up:

throughout the entire show, but especially in s4, there's been the discussion of "good vs evil" or "monsters vs superheroes" and how things are not so black and white, as Brenner put it. even Henry says that, no, Brenner was not a monster, he was just a mediocre man who was searching for purpose vicariously through his experiments.

this, i feel, is obviously leading to an understanding on Eleven's end that she has both done monstrous things and is still a good person at heart. she strives to be good, she pushes against being the "monster," but she will have to admit that, sometimes, she behaves in monstrous ways. however, that does not make her a "monster."

this could very easily jump into her being blood-related to Henry, worrying that it makes her more of a monster, before realizing that evil is not genetic. like, it's not that far of a stretch to place this narrative over blood relations while the kids at Hawkins Lab already all view themselves as "siblings" due to their upbringing.

on the opposite side of the coin, this feeds into the discussion that Henry is not a pure-blooded monster. not only will Eleven have to realize that she is capable of being a monster, but Henry is capable of not being a monster. he is, just like Brenner, simply a man who happened to find himself in fantastic circumstances.

Panem in the World: Henrichshütte Hattingen

A local newspaper mentioned that Henrichshütte Hattingen is [allegedly] going to be another filming location for TBOSAS. This place has one of the oldest furnaces in the region and was all about steel--steel--and, yup, you guessed it, steel. The pictures I found of this place online made it look rather small, but it seems to be a more diverse picture than initial google searches might give it credit for. I wonder whether they only use it as a backdrop considering filming is only (?) going to be there for two days, but it must be significant enough. Either way, this place is representing District 12 quite well and I’m thrilled to learn more about what scenes they will use with this. Who knows, maybe we can spot the scenes from those pictures? Exciting.

#the sort of secondary downtown in the town i grew up was all these really charming little brick buildings and there was a ben franklin and #a donut shop that exploded (dw abt it) and really classic signage and the unitarian church which is a really lovely romanesuqe building #from 1890. it's one of the topographically lower points in the area and what should happen a few years back but these giant towering luxury #condos coming up at the highest point in the area. its like a church r smth idk but its fucking hideous in that sort of 80s-pomo-modern #farmhouse way and there arent apartment keys you have to use an app which makes me sick. oh also the library was rebuilt in 1965 and is #this adorable little building which is decidedly midcentury inside but not in the cool way you're thinking but it's PRETTY. there's an #ornamental book on the face of it and a wrought iron gate and it's really cozy. but the wiring is janky and instead of just fixing it they #are gonna knock it down and rebuild it to be one of those hideous glass walled monstrosities that have taken over any public space. see #also how they knocked down the high school which was built in the late sixties after the original burned down and replaced it with this #torture chamber. no character at all just sterile blue furniture white walls and light gray tile. it is cold and soulless and so big it #makes me sick. its also almost entirely open concept. but it USED to be this fantastic 1970 ish brick building w brick walls and multicolor #tile and lockers and a gym with wood panelling and murals of the beatles and calvin and hobbes #anyway rant over but the world is turning to shit

Yeah!! Like there's a difference between romanticizing this stuff vs just exploring the concept. Proship is romanticizing and glorifying, that's why it's bad, but just simply exploring dark stuff is fine and actually pretty healthy. I remember that one somewhat famous AO3 note saying something about how while looking into cults to write for their fanfic, the author realized they themself were part of a cult. Learning and exploring this type of thing in fiction can be very useful to identifying it in real life

But yeah making your entire existence hating on ANYTHING even if its good to hate on its just dumb. What's that one phrase again, "love [minority] more than you hate [ppl against said minority]." Just hating something instead of actually doing anything to help others is...useless and stupid
