i’m writing one of my new kanej wips in my notes app instead of docs bc it’s easier to switch between my phone and my laptop that way, but it’s proving to be somewhat annoying bc notes won’t stop autocorrecting “inej” to “inez”

7 - what character do you enjoy writing most? why?

fics wise i’ve been mainly focused on kaz lately, so it’s somewhat hard to say anyone but him? but honestly it’s probably inej. half of i still taste you on my lips is her pov, and she’s definitely gonna come in later in the sower (if i ever pick that one up again) (which i am Going to hhhhhhh i just haven’t) but i won’t get to that part for at least another few chapters, soooo it’s not like i haven’t been writing for her at all. inej ghafa is my favorite grishaverse character for SO many reasons, and that’s why i’ll say she’s my favorite to write! kaz is also a lot of fun (though he’s a bit more of a challenge sometimes!). can i say kanej as a unit? i’m gonna go with that.

10 - what is your favorite au? have you written anything for it?

definitely the exiled kaz au, which i’m writing about in the sower. it’s an au where kaz never saves inej from the menagerie, and because of that, he’s more vulnerable to getting caught. and get caught he does—the merchant council sentences him to exile from ketterdam. in the kerch countryside, he reinvents himself and figures out a new scheme to satiate his thirst for revenge. it’s kanej, but it’s gonna be a slow burn. since it’s a plotty longfic, i won’t be publishing it for awhile—i don’t like to leave things unfinished, so i would rather write the whole thing and then upload it, which, yeah, could take awhile. but i post about it on here quite a bit! have an excerpt, as a treat.

For a moment, Kaz considered sending [Jesper] on a more useful errand, but he couldn’t bring himself to do it. He returned to the task in front of him, thinking that maybe it was a good thing he was leaving the city after all. It would give him time away from attachments he couldn’t deny were starting to form. The Dregs were a means to an end, nothing more. A spell somewhere outside of Ketterdam would remind him of that.

Inej was sitting on the windowsill, her face turned toward the sun. Her eyes were closed, and she was wearing a soft smile, lost in a thought or a memory that Kaz could only begin to guess at. He couldn’t help but stare at her, drink her in like the greedy boy he was, even at a moment like this.

i looked through my wips, and i have shockingly little dialogue written at the moment! honestly i consider that kind of a win, since it wasn’t that long ago i had more of a tendency to swing too far in the other direction. but here’s a snippet from the sower i like well enough :)

“You’ll find out when the time comes. For now, the plan is to wait.”

“Kaz—”

“The plan,” Kaz repeated, “is to wait.”

🌈 - share something soft/fluffy from your wip.

while i am in the process of planning a fluffy wip (kanej 5+1 my beloved), i don’t have any fluff actually written at the moment. but there is a section of i still taste you on my lips that’s soft, though i wouldn’t count it as fluff because of the context. have a snippet :)

15 - how do you come up with titles for your fics/chapters?

…i don’t know, tbh? i guess it’s different every time. sometimes i’m lucky enough to just get an idea. that’s how it went for bargains of the flesh and mind and pocket and however we got here, i’m glad we did and some of my old les mis fics, at least. the sower comes from a core image i’m using in the fic. i still taste you on my lips is a song lyric, and The Colors of the World is a song lyric as well (from the source material, lol). i haven’t titled chapters since my ffn days.

19 - give us a small teaser from one of your wips.

here’s the opening paragraph of chapter two of the sower. as a treat.

Kaz had been planning on leaving Ketterdam with quiet dignity, but it became obvious as he approached the western edge of the city that his exile would begin loudly and ingloriously—or at least in such a way that a lesser man would have been humiliated. He refused to allow a single person to see him brought low, much less a crowd this size.

27 - is there a fic you were nervous to post/share? why?

the sower, lol. i haven’t posted it yet obviously but sending chapter one to you to beta was TERRIFYING and it will continue to be so. there are a couple reasons. it’s the most ambitious fic project i’ve ever attempted, and it’s also personal to me because of the themes it addresses. i’d also been sitting on that chapter for quite a long time before i managed to finish the first draft, and it seems the second chapter is going the same way.

this is from my most active current wip, which i don’t think i’ve posted much if at all about on this blog actually :) it’s a kanej oneshot tentatively titled “i still taste you on my lips” (thank you for your service the oh hellos, “bitter water” is SUCH a kanej song) and it’s based on an issue i had with season two of shadow and bone, but that’s all the context you’re getting :))

🥮 Do you have any writing milestones you're working toward?

finishing the next chapter of the sower and finishing my first (and probably only, tbh, i’ll edit but i rarely do full rewrites) draft of i still taste you on my lips. i’m more focused on the first one than the second one right now, but honestly my life is pretty busy at the moment, so i’m not making huge strides towards either of those aims.
