As Dawn Blooms: An "As Dawn Breaks' A/U
Chapters ideas are broken down into paragraphs. First read though the kids descriptions so you know what is sort of going on (Dawn has enough of Morpheus's essence mixed w/ hers to make more kids without getting down and dirty with the broody idiot). They have 7 children in total btw
This picks right after Morpheus rejects Dawn and their pregnancy
In order by age:
The Twins:
𓅨 Devotion (m.)
Legit carbon copy of Dream, down to his broody atmosphere. Except Devotion loves his mother more than anything in the universe and anyone who dare disrespects her better start running.
𓅨 Liberty (f.)
Almost a carbon copy of Dream, but she’s got Dawn’s eyes and temper. Looks sweet and sophisticated on the outside, will destroy you body and mind in a heartbeat with words only, should it come to that.
The Triplets:
The Triplets are identical carbon copies of Dawn and one can never know which one they speak with unless told because the Triplets are mischievous and tricksters.
𓅨 Honor (m.)
Values honor above everything else. Very respectful. At least respectful unless his mother is insulted. Then Honor must uphold his mother’s honor… and he can get very vicious about it.
𓅨 Wit (m.)
Will make you cry with words alone. Is also way too smart for his own good and everyone knows it. Upset or insult his mother? Wit will destroy you with words and there will be nothing left of you.
𓅨 Mercy (m.)
Compassionate and forgiving. The demure triplet. At the same time? He is the personification of mercy, and can choose whether or not to give it. Especially if someone hurts or bad mouths his mother.
Non-Binary Child:
𓅨 Truth (nb.)
Has Dawn’s facial features and hair, but their eyes are definitely from Dream. Much like an elf, Truth will never tell lies. But that doesn’t mean they don’t know how to twist their words. Androgynous AF. Petty AF. Trash talk their mother? Your funeral. Truth is the most vicious out of all of Dawn’s children.
Baby Girl of the Family:
𓅨 Faith (f.)
Has beautiful midnight hair but striking eyes from her mother. Faith has unwavering faith that everything will always work out, no matter how dire the circumstances. Perhaps a bit naive, but she has six older siblings to look after her and a mother that would destroy the universe should anyone ever hurt precious Faith.
Tumblr media
Dawn returns home heartbroken, it takes everything from the handmaidens to console her. Dawn ends up speaking to Mother Night and Father Time. They calm her down, express disappointment in Dream for the gift they gave him, fully support Reader, they also give her the ability to fully hide their existence from all (aka magic can’t be used to discover their existence). | Reader is pregnant with twins, one boy and one girl. Working on a nursery. Won’t let anyone into the garden while she is pregnant for fear of something happening to children.
TWINS— Gives her birth, boom, insta hot body is back. Born as intelligent babies. The grandparents are extremely proud and bless the kids, super charged, union between hopes and dreams. Dawn being paranoid, severs her connection to Dream (the other Endless couldn’t tell the diff between Dawn and Dream’s combined essence and the kids, so no one knew she was pregnant. Dawn forgets about her heartbreak, consumed by her love for her children. The fates eventually visit, coo over the toddlers like great grannies or something, they talk with reader about not trusting the rest of the Endless with the knowledge of her children’s existences.
TRIPLETS— Over the years, Dawn hears about Dream. He was basically living a hopeless existence, a hell of his own making, and so were the rest of the Siblings, so much so that  discord and infighting was quite common between the siblings the longer Dawn kept them away from her. They were all hopeless. More talk with the Fates. Dawn still fulfilled her function to perfection, even better than before. | This time she is pregnant with triplets, the twins are excited but also super protective. Dawn has to convince them to leave. Her children would eventually leave to see the world, but they'd always remain in contact and return. Always. There was no better place than home.
NON-BINARY— So, neither Dream nor the rest of the siblings, no Gods, no Morningstar. No one would know about Dawn's children. Even when the kids went to the mortal world and interacted with humans and eventually appeared in some dreams, they'd be safe because their presence would be masked, their essence and face hidden. There would be no way for anyone to find out unless Dawn allowed it. | Dawn has five kids now, the triplets are thick as thieves and adore the gardens, very proactive in helping Dawn with her duties. The children would be wonderful, mischievous, powerful and happy. | Dawn is speaking with her sixth kid, who views themself as nonbinary, Dawn is like ‘okay? And why is this a problem?’. Six kid is alike: Best. Mom. Ever. A balance between hopes a dream, just as perfect and as necessary as the others.
BABYGIRL— Dawn is hunkered down in her bedroom, the twins drop by, discover that Dawn has enough of her shared essence to have one more kid, but she is unsure because it is the last time she will feel Dream within her essence. Twins give it to her straight, kind of harping on their dad and telling her that she doesn’t need his essence to be happy (but I feel like there’s a hole without him)(excuses mother). So she uses the last bit of the essence to have one more child. | Family dinner with the six kids, they’re all exited about the last sibling. Question Dawn whether it will be a boy or a girl. She tells him that it’s a little girl.
Family dinner, arguments about Dawn not being there. It'd come to a point in which Destiny would no longer be able to keep quiet and the whole universe would know of Dream's dirty little secret. Maybe this could be the reason for Delight becoming Delirium, Despair becoming worse, Desire hating Dream, Destruction abandoning his post. All because Dawn was gone. She was supposed to give them hope, to stick them together, to balance them, but she was driven away and the rest of the Endless were deprived of hope.
One day Dream get’s caged. One day he'd be caged and no one would help him. Dawn would feel this, but she would not be able to help without him asking for it. She'd not go out of her way to help him, but I can see her opening her gates to Dreams and Nightmares. Some would go there, find support when the Dreaming started to collapse. Some Nightmares would change themselves and act as Dreams and some Dreams would act as Nightmares. They all had hope to be whatever they wanted.Of course that Dawn would have to create an area specific to the Nightmares and another for Dreams because it'd not end well if both realms joined in such a way. I'd love to see the Corinthian becoming fond of Dawn, finding out about Dream's kids, becoming their "Uncle Cori", so much so that he'd feel like exacting some revenge on Dream.
Eventually he'd free himself, ask the Fates about his vestments, receive from them quite the verbal Lashing. Then he'd look for his sand, and Johanna would be like "You look familiar", “coulda sworn I met a fellow who looks just like you, even had the same brooding scowl,” then he'd look for his helm and Lucifer would toy and humiliate him (by this point the entire universe would know of Dream's children and all the gossip involved). Everyone would know, but Dream would have no idea. He'd be made a fool of, and he'd have no idea of how and why. Morningstar and the entirety of hell would laugh in his face.
Then, he'd go to get his ruby, then deal with the Vortex, have a fight with Corinthian while the Nightmare taunted him with something Dream didn't know. Devotion rescues Calliope at the behest of his mother who learned of Calliope’s entrapment. Devotion brings Calliope back to The Gardens. Dawn offers a place to live there. Calliope accepts. | Dream would visit his friend and Hob would ask "Do you have a twin brother or a son? I came across a young man who looked exactly like you, and a girl with your eyes. Boy “was especially broody and the girl had a stare that could intimidate anyone. Kinda freaky how much the boy looked like you. Dream would realize a few things. And he'd despair. During this journey he, coincidentally would see one of the young man who looks just like him. The young man would disappear before his eyes. Dream would despair even more.
Eventually he'd go see Desire and they'd taunt him, play with him, humiliate him. He'd not be a blameless victim here. Nay sir, no more free passes 😒😒😒  The triplets, Honor, Wit, & Mercy, go see Dream first while visiting a few of their friends in The Dreaming. They tell Dream that they have older siblings and younger ones, but won’t elaborate. All three are very blatant and vicious with their words, indicating that they are protecting their mother from him. They depart, Dream is dumbstruck at the thought of more kids than just the kid that looks just like him, the girl and the triplets. Matthew goes to investigate, meets Faith, who gives him all the dirty details while having tea with her fellow doves. Matthew decides against telling Dream.
Dream goes back to Desire to discuss business, and that is when Truth is visiting, Truth introduces themself: “Well if it isn’t my lovely father.” Sardonically. That’s another kid. Dream presses truth about being able to visit The Gardens and see Dawn. Truth twists their words, pisses Dream off, displays their frighteningly powerful power. “Ta ta!” | The triplets are visiting their mother, bring up meeting their father, Dawn is caught off guard, plays it off, finishes having tea with them, they leave, Dawn goes to her garden where she tries not to break down.
Dream is broodily feeding birds, Faith drops by, they talk. Dream is smacked in the face with how nice and hopeful Faith is. Not to mention she looks like Dawn but has his eyes. | Dream is visiting Hob, talking about meeting his eldest children, the ones he scorned and hurt Dawn so badly. Hob is understanding, and then Devotion and Liberty drop by. Hob comments how alike Dream and Devotion are, Devotion is stoned faced, Liberty is very passive aggressive. Devotion ends the talk with that if Dream wants to see Dawn, he’ll have to go through all seven of his children.
There is a millennial meeting, the Endless harp on dream about hosting it this time after this absence, he’s like no, but the others get their way.The kids are very against their mother going, but she puts her foot down, telling them it’s time to stop crying over Dream and she kind of wants a little revenge mom vibe. So she goes, and when the seven Endless kids enter the palace grand hall, everyone is shocked because they are never all together. Every then keels over when Dawn her mother fucking self blasts her way behind them badass and drop dead gorgeous. Dream has a coronary, not expecting her to come. The seven kids end up being a barrier between Dream and Dawn the entire night.
That night, after the kids have all bid their mother goodnight. Dawn is chilling in her room alone. Lucienne drops by. | The next day, Dream seeks out Faith, who is with Truth speaking with some dreams and nightmares in the village. He asks to speak to them alone. He then apologizes, and tells them the truth about why he was so harsh with Dawn and asks to be allowed to speak with their mother. They relent, but do not speak for the other children. (Aka, he will need to get all of their permission, before being allowed to talk to Dawn.
Dream seeks out the Triplets next, finds them with the newly made Corinthian, Wit, Mercy, and Honor hanging out with their uncle. Wit is ruthless as usual. Honor goes after Dream for being so disrespectful towards their mother, and Mercy brings up the fact that while he might embody Mercy, he is sometimes without. Dream doesn’t make excuses. | Dream finds Liberty playing with some of the youngsters of the dreaming. She doesn’t pull her punches or words. Being very harsh and clear, also brings up that he didn’t just abandon her mother, but Liberty and her brother as well. Dream just wants a chance at making things right. She relents, but reminds Dream that while she and the younger siblings might be more convinced to allow him near their mother, Devotion is an entirely different discussion, because Devotion takes after Dream a lot, and is by far the most protective (not to mention vindictive).
The next day, at breakfast, Dream is gazing at Devotion who is glaring back while having breakfast with his mother. Dawn is wondering what has him so worked up, he tells her not to worry about it. It takes Dream all day for a chance to talk to Devotion. It’s sunset when Devotion allows him to approach in the garden. Explosive garden, revealing just how alike father and son are. Devotion ultimately relents, but tells Dream that he doesn’t care if his grandparents punish him, he will destroy Dream if he hurts his mother again. It’s no empty threat. |Dawn is in her room, its nighttime, she’s all dressed for bed, feels a familiar presence and calls out for Dev, or Devotion, thinking that it’s him. Nope, out pops Dream. Cue shocked Dawn, Dream explains that he got permission from all their children to see her. Dawn is like, Devotion would never have let you near me if you hadn’t gotten his permission, so you may speak. Dream grovels.
Naturally, Dawn forgives him and Dream converges on her, not believing that he can hold her within his arms once more. Smut cause these two idiots can’t keep their hands off each other.
Breakfast rolls around, the seven are eating breakfast, Triplets wonder where their mom is, looking at her empty chair. Devotion’s eye twitches as the empty throne of Dream is apparent and none of them have felt an explosion of anger from their mother (meaning she hasn’t bitten their father’s head off yet). Devotion and Liberty share a look. Liberty explains that she is probably, still in bed. Faith and Truth are like ‘Gross’  and the Triplets are like, so, we getting a new sibling then??? Devotion is at his wits end with his siblings | Final meeting of all eight original endless, they’re shocked to see Dawn entering beside Dream (whose hair looks even more messed up then usual) Eyebrows go up and Dawn is like I told you you should have brushed it! Rather than be elusive about his relationship with Dawn, Dream smirks down at her and guides her over to a chair before pulling it out and helping her sit down.

Worse than the Devil
youtube
Hey Everyone, I got really inspired by the amazing response to my first fic Queen Of Mean. I decided to write a follow up. Its to Selena Gomez’s version of Cruella De Vil. I loved it when it first came out and it sent shivers when I realized it was perfect for my follow up.
Looking back the missing pigtails in the bluenette’s hair when she walked into class Monday morning, dressed like she just got off the runaway, flanked by Chloe at her side, should’ve been the first warning sign.
But in the class’s defense, it had been a crazy weekend. The fireworks that came with Ladybug’s video, Alya’s meltdown, and Lila being outted as a liar didn’t die down after class ended that day.  No. The weekend had been filled out a never-ending stream of group texts, complaining of hurt feelings, nasty little liars, and why, or why wasn’t Marinette replying to their texts? Answering her phone? Didn’t she know they were sorry? Didn’t she know they needed their everyday Ladybug now more than ever? Alya in particular.
Alya, who had spent the entire weekend, nearly 24/7, trying to save her blog; defend her life’s work against the avalanche of criticism that had come it’s way; even the most loyal fans screamed of betrayal. She had released a dozen video explaining what happened and begging her viewers to understand that people make mistakes. Calling Marinette with no answer, texting her best friend for help only to get no reply. Texting Marinette that Lila was a dirty, rotten, liar in over a hundred different way, in over a hundred different texts; only to never get a reply; which Alya never understood. Marinette was right. Lila was a liar. Alya and Marinette should be teaming up to bring her down like their brought down Chloe; stand together like best friends do.
As Alya sat patiently at her desk, with Nino holding her hand in support, waiting for Marinette to arrive so she could find comfort in her bestie, never once did an apology cross her mind. Alya was too indignant, too self-righteous, convinced the Ladybug was victim-blaming. It wasn’t Alya’s fault. Her boyfriend agreed. Her entire class agreed. She just knew, soon, all of Paris would agree.
When Marinette casually strolled in, talking animatedly with Chloe about their week, she left the other students stunned. Gone was the pintails. Gone was the easy-going, simple, practically trademarked pink pants and grey flower decorated shirt. Gone was the happy smile that the students had always remembered was there to greet them and bring them cheer on a sour Monday, like the day was.
Instead, Marinette’s hair was down and flowing down her shoulders, longer than they could ever remember it being (though granted they hadn’t paid much attention to their once friend in last few months, except for giving her a few quick glares and sneers) and was perfectly coiffed with strands pullback in braids that would’ve made Daenerys Targaryen take notes. She was dressed in all black; a cropped leather jacket, a sparkly black halter top that tied around her neck in a pretty bow, her jeans black and skin tight, and killer high heels that would make most girls envious. The only color Marinette wore was the sliver bracelets adorning her arms and the classic movie star red lips she sported. Marinette looked a supermodel.
And if Marinette’s new look didn’t stunned them. Then the look on her face when she glanced at them sure did. Move over Hawkmoth, because if Marinette didn’t scare you, no evil thing could.
It was like the entire classroom went colder. Maybe it was because of the ice in Marinette’s stare, her curved red-stained smirk that screamed: beware. The way everything about her just screamed predator, alpha, top of the food chain. Queen.
Alya blinked hard. Nino blinked hard. Adrien blinked hard. Too stunned at the sight to even remember to badger the bluenette.  She and Chloe, also dressed like a runaway model, flounced to the back of the class without a hello, a smile, a wave; anything friendly. It was like they were too insignificant for the girls to notice. If they had an ounce of luck still in their lives, that would’ve been so.
Unfortunately for them that wasn’t the case.
The girls were painfully aware of their existence; of every move they made over the week, every stupid text they sent, every false apology uttered. Because the downfall of the Ladyblog was just a taste of what was to come. At this point, Marinette and Chloe was just Spiders waiting for the kill.
“Girl, you don’t have to sit with Chloe,” Alya exclaimed.  “We’ll make room, right?” Nino nodded quickly, eager to give his childhood friend an olive branch.
“Why wouldn’t I want to sit with Chloe?” Marinette asked nonchalantly. “She’s my best friend.”
What happened next was similar to what, Marinette, thought happened in movie; where the main character says something shocking at a dance, there’s a sound of a record scratch, and silence as all eyes turn to the speaker.
The smirk the spread over Chloe’s face, the glow that filled her, the thought of the havoc she was about to help commence practically made her purr.
“Best friend?” Alix asked, her pink hair pulled back and her face skeptical. “Last I checked, you were mortal enemies.”
“Last time you check was not long after Lie-La came to class,” Marinette retorted.
“Which is the last time you’re opinion matter to us,” Chloe added. “Or well to Mari here. I never paid you peasant any mind.”
“You can’t be best friends,” Alya jumped up. “You shouldn’t even be friends. I can’t believe it? After what she did to you?”
           The other students nodded.
“She stole your design.” Rose put in.
“Bullied you for years,” Max said.
“Ruined your present for teach!” Kim added.
Alya nodded smugly at the class backing her up, and gave Marinette a bright smile and an expectant look that always used to work on cowing the other girl.
“Bygones,” Marinette sighed. “I forgave her. And we bonded over how stupid you were at believing Lie-La.” Marinette leaned back in her seat. “Besides it’s not like she ever called me a jealous bitch? Told me to check my sources? Ditched me a million times. Whispered mean words about me right in front of me. And even crueler words behind my back. Chloe would never do that.”
“You know who would?” Chloe grinned. ‘You.” She pointed at Alya. “And you.” She pointed at Alix. “And you!” At Nino “And you, you, you, you. And well everyone here really.”
“Chloe maybe be mean; in fact the greatest mean girl Sharpay,” Marinette smiled lovingly at the blond who preened at the praise.
“But at least I’m not a bad friend,” Chloe snipped viciously.
“Now Chloe that would imply I’m still friends with them at all.”
At the statement, students wilted into themselves. Their misdeeds weighed heavily on them. They had been so upset at Lila for lying to them, at themselves for believing her, kicking themselves for not listening to Marinette, they never once considered how Marinette felt about the whole mess. But now they knew, she wasn’t happy.
Little did they know just how furious the once sweet girl was.
The two girls turned their attention to each other.
“Wasn’t this week just amaz!” Chloe said easily. “Fashion shows are always just so spectacular.”
“Your mom is, like, the best,” Marinette nodded eagerly. “I still can’t believe we got to model.”
Chloe side-eyed the students, pretending they weren’t listening. “And why not? They were short. And just look at us. We’re beautiful. We deserved to be on that runway.”
“Runaway?” Mylène asked, awed. “You were in a fashion show.”
Marinette nodded, kindly, though inwardly smirking. “There are pictures from the show online. They’re trending.” So was Marinette’s social media accounts. “We got to model with Kate Upton and Bella and Gigi Hadid.”
“We’re all the rage!” Chloe stated. “Mommy’s thinking of making us the faces of her new line. We’ll be in next week’s issue of Teen Vogue.”
“I posted a few photos on my Insta,” Marinette shrugged. “You can look if you want, I guess.” It was said with a faux unsure, insecure, unassuming voice; a voice that even the most terrifying vampire bat could have even the smartest of victims dancing to it.
With that the girls went back to their conversation. Pretending they didn’t notice their classmates whipping out their phones to verify.
“WOW,” Rose beamed. “They do have pics with the Hadid sisters. Oh you look so pretty Marinette.”
“Dude is that Kendall Jenner?” Kim asked.
“Beyoncé!” Alya yelled. “Beyoncé was there. You met Beyoncé.”
“Chill,” Chloe snapped. “We didn’t meet her. We just waved. Jay-Z was there too btw.”
“Jay-Z,” Nino whispered in awe.
Before befriending Marinette, Chloe was have gladly lied and said they met the goddess, that was Queen Beyoncé. But Marinette wouldn't suffer liars. And hated anyone who lied about her. Chloe was smart enough to know losing Marinette as a friend would be costly to her; both personally and professionally.
The blond refused to toss away the blessing that was Marinette’s friendship. Not the like fools before her. They didn’t know what they lost. But Chloe would make sure they did.
It had taken weeks of slowly inching her way to being Marinette’s friend. The girl had been untrusting the blonde’s actions at first. But eventually, Chloe won her over, proved she could be a good friend, if not the best friend Marinette ever had.
And the best part? Chloe didn’t have to change. Granted she had to dull unsavory traits like lying and stealing but it was worth it.
“Tony. Stark.” Max gulped like he was just told Santa was in fact real. “You are in a picture with Tony Stark; Iron Man.”
“Pepper Potts wanted a vacation,” Marinette said. “Peter, their son, is a friend of mine. We met last summer when he was visiting England with his class. I was there with my grandma. We hit it off. He knew I was nervous about going on stage so he got his mom to come here so he could support me. It was just supposed to be the two of them. Until Mr. Tony realized and followed along. Swore up and down they were trying to ditch him,” Marinette laughed.
“Oh please,” Chloe huffed. “He was proud that his kid was hanging out with a gorgeous French model.”
“Two gorgeous French models,” Marinette corrected. “The three of us got ice cream afterwards, remember? I can’t wait for this summer. Peter said we can spend of three weeks at Stark Tower; interning. PR for you. You’ll be amazing at it. God knows I could do, though.” She said glumly. Though her internship was going to be assisting the Pepper Potts on her day to day life.
“Ridiculous!” Chloe snapped. “Utterly Ridiculous. You know you can’t wait to get your hands on Thor’s cape to find out what material Alien princes use. Not to mention the plans I saw for a potential Captain America supersuit.”
Marinette crossed her arms, and huffed. “Hey that man is walking around dressed like America’s drunk prom date. Someone has to step in.”
“It’s a classic look,” Nathanial told them.
“It’s a crime against fashion,” Marinette hissed.
With that, the girls went back to talking about their weekend and bickering over summer plans. Or at least they tried to.
“You could’ve invited us,” Alya snapped. “Or at least told us.”
“Why?” Marinette asked. “We’re not friends. Why don’t you ask Lila how it was? I’m sure, she’ll happily spin you a yarn about how amazing everything was. And promise you’ll meet them next time.”
It was like a slap to the face. The entire class quieted back down; wishing the bell would ring already. And wondering where Miss Bustier was.
Unfortunately for the teacher, quite a few concerned parents and staff members had taken issue with how Bustier had been running her class. Bullying, students being constantly turned into Akumas, why Lila could miss so much school without it being a major issue.
“Don’t you think you’re being harsh?” Adrien asked. “They’re sorry.”
No, Marinette thought darkly. They weren’t. Not yet. But they would be soon.
“Okay,” Marinette shrugged, carelessly, inhumanly. “I don’t see why that matters. I accept their apology but it changes nothing. Sorry doesn’t fix anything. It doesn’t magically make every alright again. It’s no Ladybug charm. Let it go.” She warned.
While Marinette did have plans to bring down Adrien, they were for a later time. And when she did, it would be painful. And it would break him. Like he helped break her.
For months Adrien had stood by, remained silent as Marinette was made into an outcast, bullied, lost all her friends… when he knew. Knew Lila was lying, knew Marinette was just trying to help. After he promised, vowed to have her back. Instead, Adrien let them deface her sketchbook after Lila accuse Marinette of yet another bullying incident; destroying all of Marinette’s hard work. Despite knowing Marinette couldn’t have possible done what Lila said she had. He just let it happen, too afraid to stand up and tell the truth.
Adrien didn’t take the hint. Or didn’t recognize a warning when he heard it.
“Their hurting too!” The blond boy defended, outraged at how his everyday Ladybug
“How?” Marinette asked curiously, innocently reminiscent of the girl who had been their friend who had existed when the world was still a wholesome place. “You said it yourself it’s not like Lila was hurting anybody. At least that’s what you told me, remember? You knew Lila was lying since like forever and you’re just fine.”
It went silent again. Adrien paled. Marinette could barely stop the smile from slipping onto her face. If she wasn’t careful, they might combined their collective ten brain cells and catch on. See that she was a monster that should’ve never been released.
“You knew?” Nino asked in horrified disbelief.
Dozens of hurt filled eyes trained on Adrien. It was at that moment Ms. Mendeleiev walked into class. “Students, I’ll be filling in today and possibly for the rest of the week. Everyone in their seats. Class is about to begin.”
It was the smoothest devastation Chloe had ever witnessed and grew up with her mother and Gabriel Agreste as role models.
In few years, the blonde knew there would be few would who hesitate to call Marinette, or herself, the devil. Too stunned to realize just how much worse either girl was.
Chloe glanced at the girl who had become her best friend, and fellow mean-girl-in-arms. Marinette had her bluebell eyes trained on the chaos she had just unleashed, once again, on her fellow classmates.
A lessor man, woman would’ve shivered. Chloe had shivered and had nightmares the first time that gaze rested on her.
However, when time wore off the shock; Chloe realize she’d only see those type of eyes watching from underneath a rock.
If you weren’t scared of the New Marinette, then you hadn’t met her yet.
Look out world, Chloe thought. Long Live the Queen.

i have been thinking a lot about how to phrase this.
every fandom is a parabola that opens downwards. you start relatively unknown until the community gains momentum and becomes big. when there's a decline in rating, interest or content, the community shrinks again (or fades, for example if it's a show that ended long ago).
i've never experienced the shrinking phase because i'm always very late to trends - i either get to fandoms after they faded out completely or remain in them in the exploding phase and lose interest with everyone else. i rarely revisit fandoms after they've shrunk.
the dnp fandom is obviously different because it's based around real people who will always be around, and so the community is unlikely to fade out completely. as mentioned, i was in it in the exploding phase: 2013 to 2016. i lost interest a few years before most people and so i missed out on the touring. i came back this year, as a lot of people did, because the coming outs triggered my interest again.
Feeling The Shrinking Is Weird. i've been going at it tentatively, but there's something bittersweet about it that i can't ignore. it's most obvious in numbers - fics, arts, edits, even made by Phandom Famous Users TM, get a lot less notes. the tags aren't really active, where before they were swamped. the og posters of most things on your dash are the same seven or eight or nine blogs. i've got two deactivated phandom blogs with 2k followers each (this is not a flex, it really wasn't a lot back then) and like, 95% of those are no longer active and have not been active since 16-17. the number of fics written out there is ridiculously smaller - it has come to my attention that pbb is cancelled, which made me really sad because it was always my dream back then to participate (not to mention reverse bang, whoa, a dream!).
there's like. no point to this post. i'm really glad i came back. the community, even when smaller, makes me happy. dnp inspire my creativity and after three years of draught even irl i came back with a bang and am drawing and writing nonstop. above all, i'm really enjoying phil's content and having someone to stalk on insta and waiting for every sunday evening.
but like. every friend i've had here has disappeared while i was gone. i read people who reblogged my fics while i was gone who missed them and wondered if they'd come back - and i did, but the audience left in the meanwhile. i feel a bit like existing in a graveyard of my old community and It Is Weird. it's hard to make new friends because it kinda seems like the community is not built for it, anymore (which, btw, is not necessarily a bad thing).
tumblr is and has always been my venting place so i felt like sharing my sentiments. it's a one time thing - i'm happy, most people i follow are happy, phil's happy, all's good. but the ghosty feeling has been following me around so i had to share so it'd let me go.
TL:DR: i feel old and everything's changed but everything is still mostly great, so it's okay. now back to regular schedule 💕

Y’all, 99.999% of the time, I exist on my phone and tablet. It’s very rare that I do any Fandom Stuff or social media on my laptop. But tonight, after This Episode, I had to break out the big guns. I need to be able to type as fast as my brain screams words. tl;dr: EVERYTHING IS THE WORST AND I HATE IT. Hey I’ll do a fun little page break so you don’t have to scroll past this whole thing if you don’t want to. How nice of me.
Erin
OPENING SCENE AND ERIN’S ALREADY YELLING AT PEOPLE. COOL.
JUST DON’T with this foster parent (allegedly) killing a foster child thing. Foster parents have enough of a negative perception as it is... a foster parent who “cracked” and killed a child in her care certainly won’t help. And I know this won’t turn into a well-done, thoughtful Discourse on the lack of support and resources for foster parents who are caring for children with complex needs. So I hate it.
I’m so, so, so sad for this child.
Sidenote re: Sam saying “I’ve already got a mom” (explaining why he didn’t call his foster parent “mom”) - okay, BB, one actual sensitive portrayal here, thumbs up.
Welp Erin’s boss is an asshole but so’s everyone else on this show. What else is new?
And now Sam is locked out of his new foster home. Another nice tally in the Negative Portrayal column. This is disgusting. His appreciation for his previous foster parent is obvious (this kid’s a ten times better actor than fucking Will “Dead Face” Estes at this point) and I hate this entire concept. At least the show’s portrayal of the child in foster care himself is positive.
Now Sam’s at Anthony’s house and this is off topic, but for half a second can we appreciate that Sam is also a bajillion times better at apologies than Jamie Reagan? Nice.
If Anthony becomes Sam’s foster parent I will be SO ANNOYED. One, because I’m sure the show won’t even hint at an accurate process - it’ll be insta-parent, Anthony walks into some caseworker’s office and walks out with physical custody of a child (fun fact: it takes three months or longer to get licensed as a foster parent). Two, because it’s kind of another blow to the reputation of foster parents that this episode is painting - like the only suitable foster parent in a whole city of veteran, trained, experienced FPs is this newbie? This does not taste good.
This is a cute scene. Rather than Anthony being Sam’s foster parent, how about he becomes his mentor?
OH. NICE. EXACTLY WHAT I DIDN’T WANT. “I’m going to sign the papers later today. I’m going to foster Sam myself.” Can we please get some follow-up on this, BB? Let’s please see Anthony trying to navigate the waters of parenting a teenager who likely has attachment-related diagnoses and other challenges. Is Anthony going to get trauma-informed care training? Or is he just going to wing it and hope that it’s all magical and swell? Does he have a sensitive, non-snarky bone in his body? I’m on the edge of my seat. (LOL @ Erin being the voice of reason here.)
OH. WHOA WHOA WHOA. “It’s not like I always wanted a son, but one came knocking and I answered the door.” Remember that line above where Sam reminded us that he has a mom? Do you understand why this line made me gag? There’s a fine line you walk as a foster parent, where you’re performing all the duties of parenting this child as if they’re your own - but you have to remember and be sensitive to the fact that they’re not. Kids in foster care are a package deal, yo, they come with a whole other family too. For teenagers this is an especially important Issue.
This entire storyline was terrible. 0/10.
Fat Shaming (Frank and co)
Poor Witten, you guys. That is awful and terrible and dangerous that her partner can’t even make it up 4 flights of stairs. “I’m here and you’re fine” - but what if she wasn’t?
Did Sid Gormley just use the word “fat shaming” and argue that physical fitness does not affect a cop’s ability to do their job?
Cops who are on the beat should be able to pass a fairly high standard for physical fitness. The end, basically.
Family dinner (tossed in here due to the topic of conversation): Seriously? Henry’s going to talk about it being discrimination to require cops to meet a physical fitness standard that is a pretty basic aspect of their ability to do their job? Nice.
Oh, magical, Frank has come up with a Compromise that Makes Everybody Happy. Raise your hand if you’re surprised.
Danny
TBH I hardly noticed this storyline at all. I’m much too busy angrily scribbling all of the examples of Dismissive Jamie on my whiteboard. Oh well, win some lose some.
Jamko
The way Jamie brushes Eddie off during this whole New Partner Discussion is gross. Refer to yesterday’s Two Pronged Complaint for the details.
The Biggest Issues: Jamie minimizing Eddie’s experience on the job, and being too protective of her/failing to be an objective boss. Et cetera.
“wHaT eLsE dOn’T I kNoW?” suck a dick, Jamie Reagan.
Peep those obviously empty coffee cups that probably have a piece of dry ice at the bottom to make the “steam.” A+.
I’m going to keep track of how many times “female empowerment” is said in this episode. I’ll keep you updated.
So this “fraternal organization” that we’ve all been so stressed about Eddie joining is...basically a women’s intramural sports league? LOLOL so I’m super excited to watch Jamie sputter about how Joe died playing softball* and therefore Eddie shouldn’t join.
LOOK AT EDDIE. She is legitimately excited about the idea of playing softball, dude. That smile is as much personality as we’ve gotten out of her all season. CAN’T WAIT TO WATCH JAMIE “WET BLANKET” REAGAN SNUFF THAT RIGHT OUT.
This ~date night~ situation is hilarious in a Young Childless Couple way.
OH, so NOW Jamie’s interested in a legitimate conversation with Eddie, engaged and responding... with questions in a demanding, rude tone? I’m so annoyed at his whole handling of the Eddie’s-new-partner thing.
GOD why is everything a Female Empowerment Thing? Can’t women just... enjoy playing sports?
OH HERE’S WHERE IT GETS FUN HOLD ONTO YOUR BUTTS
BAD IDEA
YOU’RE ABOUT TO BECOME A REAGAN
THAT’S A NO-GO
NOW YOU’RE JUST BEING STUBBORN
“No, I’m being astonished that my fiancé is trying to tell me what I can and cannot do” SAME, EDDIE
I’m so angry that the scene cuts off there. Did they just go about their stupid dinner date with this Tension floating palpably in the air between them? Did Eddie pull out an “I think I’ll sleep at my place tonight” and stalk away in that red? satin? dress? ? I hope she poured his stupid ON TAP IPA (objectively the worst type of beer, btw) down his shirt and walked out.
I AM SO SAD watching this scene of Eddie backing out of softball.
“I’m not much of a joiner” is a DUMB RIDICULOUS LINE and Eddie says it TWICE, folks.
Witten doesn’t bring up Jamie at all - I therefore assume she doesn’t know Eddie’s a Future Reagan (which is a whole other issue, but anyway.) . Witten thinks Eddie’s backing out so as to avoid associating with Witten. So I assume Witten’s intentions with the softball invite were totally pure. IMAGINE THAT! A woman who wants to be friends with another woman, one who she works with and respects and wants to get to know better! With no ulterior motive! Someone please hit Jamie Reagan in the nostril with a dart.
I like Witten more and more. Can we replace all the Reagan storylines with Witten, Sam, and Old Eddie in dark jeans and a studded jacket?
A LAUNDROMAT? ONE: Shouldn’t Jamie, as A Reagan, have laundry in his building?* TWO: It he didn’t, why wouldn’t they do laundry for free at Frank’s house every week?*
I CAN SMELL THE TENSION and I am legitimately curious how they’ve coexisted between the date and now. How’s that working out, hmm - that “keeping work and home separate” thing?
“I DIDN’T TELL YOU TO, I ASKED” says Jamie. Shall we go back a few bullet points to when he told her it’s a “no-go”?
I NEED TO KNOW WHAT ELSE I NEED TO KNOW - Same, Eddie. Do I really need to reiterate how ridiculous this whole thing is - that they’re engaged without dating, and now finding out that maybe there’s a reason people date first, even if they’re best friends, because this is the kind of stuff you work out before you start shopping for your dress.
“Are we talking, or are we just talking smack?” SOME ACCUSATION from the dumbass who said ALL THE THINGS IN THOSE BULLETS UP ABOVE.
Finally, for once, Eddie is voicing some real and legitimate concerns. Are we going to get any sort of resolution or mature adult discussion of these things? NOPE!
Did he seriously just tell her to cut it out? I hate him so much. I hope somebody duct tapes him to the front of those washer/dryers and pulls out each individual eyebrow hair with tweezers.
This laundromat scene just exemplifies so many of the issues I’ve been rage blogging about all damn season. Jamie ultimately brushing off Eddie’s concerns without ever giving her real answers. Not having the respect for her to even take her thoughts into account. Barking orders like he knows it all, and Eddie isn’t capable of making her own decisions. At least this time that’s the actual point of the scene rather than the nasty subtext.
EDDIE AND DANNY SCENE: I’m actually surprised that this is the first time Joe has been mentioned. Watching the sneak peek I figured Jamie’s main argument against Eddie joining an organization would be that it’s what got his brother killed (being vague, obviously, since Eddie clearly didn’t know the details). Not that it’s improper As A Reagan. I hoped the context of the episode would make me feel a little better about this scene but it just feels even more out of place and poorly/choppily written. I like Eddie and Danny together - I’d like them to interact more. But this didn’t do it for me. Gotta meet that Joe Mention Quota* on the season, I guess.
FINAL SCENE: in summary, FUCK THIS.
Sidenote: When is someone going to get suspicious @ how often Eddie gets pulled into Sarge’s office?
For the record, I anticipated an eye-rolly “Ohhkay, maybe I overreacted...” speech.
WHAT WE GOT FELL BELOW EVEN THAT VERY LOW BAR.
Jamie explains himself. Fine, he has a right to do that, and it’s constructive in helping Eddie understand the man she’s about to marry (god don’t even remind me). BUT HE DOES NOT ADMIT ANY WRONGDOING.
THERE IS NO APOLOGY
THERE IS NO ADMISSION THAT HE MADE MISTAKES in how he spoke to her, ordered her around, and didn’t even stop for eight seconds to listen to what she had to say
THERE IS NOT EVEN THE VERY MINIMAL “I overreacted” type of acknowledgment.
“So maybe if I forget sometimes, you can remind me” THIS IS GROSS TOO because it essentially puts the burden on Eddie to teach/remind Jamie how to HAVE AN ADULT CONVERSATION AND NOT BE AN ASS. He could AT LEAST take responsibility for his own improvement in the Future.
Eddie said literally two words in this entire scene. There was no mutual understanding, no real agreement, no genuine Development in their relationship.
THIS IS NOT A SATISFACTORY RESOLUTION TO THIS CONFLICT.
This episode is called Rectify but NOTHING HAS BEEN RECTIFIED.
ALSO, this seems like an awfully Personal conversation to be having in uniform, Sarge. Are they even trying anymore?
HE JUST THREW A SOFTBALL GLOVE AT HER. Is that supposed to be... sweet? Touching? An admission of guilt/mistake/wrongdoing? TRY AGAIN, BB. NONE OF THE ABOVE.
WELL. If you’ve made it this far, I hope you’re as disgruntled as I am. Seems like plenty of y’all were quite unhappy with this episode as well. I’m enjoying your tweets and sadness. I’ve been the queen of this club for almost a year now. Welcome, make yourselves comfortable, there’s plenty of ice cream in the freezer. Just don’t sit on the far end of the couch. That’s my dog’s favorite spot.
