World War II AU where Goro is a captain for the Imperial Japanese Navy that falls in love with Valerie Cortesi, the eldest daughter of a Filipino shipping merchant and who, unbeknownst to him, is also a spy for a guerilla organization working to combat the Japanese occupation of her province. For this, their love, ambitions and loyalties are put to the test.

(THE HOUSE WITH THE RED DOOR, ESSOS)
He woke up in the middle of a humid room. A woman was staring at him - with widened eyes that were surprised to see him alive. She was wearing a cotton dress, a cheap fabric that was easily available to the lower classes - he could make out the gentle slope of her curves. If she was whore, then she was in the wrong bed.
"Water," he managed to choke out.
"Here," you replied - handing him a goblet of water. It came as a surprise when you saw this man lying in the middle of the fields - he smelled like smoke, ash and pig - but he was breathing. You couldn't bare leaving him alone to die. "Where am I?" he inquired, eyes searching the room for any signs of danger.
"E-Essos," you stuttered seeing that he was clueless.
His accent sounded Westrosi - his attire was for royals, and he didn't know where he was?
"Fuck, Vhagar." he cursed, attempting to stand up - the pain on his shoulder causes him to fall back on the bed. "I'm sorry is there someone waiting for you?" you ask and he shakes his head. His family didn't even know that he left. "I must return to Westeros, I offer my thanks for keeping me here - my lady. But I must leave." he thanked, searching his pockets for the gold that he kept.
His jaw clenches feeling that it wasn't there.
He removes the dagger from the scabbard, pointing it at your jugular. "Thief," he accused with venom - seeing the life drain out of your face. You suddenly turn pale - not the kind that looks like paper, but the kind that warrants fear.
"Release her," your father commanded in a cold tone, his eye trails towards your father - still dressed in his commander's attire. "Your servant has stolen from me," he accused - still not wanting to take the dagger away form your neck. "She is my daughter, and she is in no need of your gold." your father corrected.
Aemond slowly lets you go.
"I apologize," he says rigidly - unamused to see you sprint away.
Tumblr media
Aemond cursed himself. His first mistake was calling the commander's daughter a 'servant', his second mistake was placing a dagger on her neck. Oh, he was fucked - he wouldn't make it back alive. His older sister will win the war without him. Damn all.
"I understand that you are from the west, Prince Aemond. How is life there?" the man asked, taking a bite of his meat. The entire halls were decorated with gold and silver - the magnitude of its splendor rivaled his own home. "It is as the same as it is here, my lord." he replied cautiously - thinking of ways to seek the man's sponsor.
His eye trails towards the occupants of the table. One was an older woman with red hair and pale green eyes, she wore jewels - one that shone like moonlight. One was a maiden with a ring om her finger - but she was wearing back ('A widow' he thought) and beside her was you.
"Well, have a pick of my daughters - they are young and intelligent. Although I must admit, you scared my youngest with your little show." he chuckled, pointing at his five daughters. They were all beautiful - of different kinds, but he was drawn to you. "Go ahead, apologize to her." the man pushed - excited to see a prince bow his head at his daughters.
"The daughters of this house are not frightened with a simple attack, father - and worry not my prince, it wasn't your fault." you open your mouth before he could open his. A smile is etched on his face. "I agree with you, my lady - which is why I must apologize." he lowered his head - seeing that your face was illuminated by the candle's rays.
"If you agree with me, then you do not need to apologize." you smiled bitterly, satisfied with his displacement. He clenches his fists, but continues eating with joy. Your father laughs, proud of you.
"Of course, it matters not - one should always apologize for an accident caused by one." Aemond argued, not wanting to lose. "Then apologize," you moved an eyebrow, changing the tides upon him. You wanted to know if he was truly sorry - or if he wanted to fight with you. "I'm sorry, fair lady." he smiled playfully, ending the banter.
"I don't accept your apology," you crossed your arms - earning shy giggles from your sisters. "What can I do to earn your approval?" he flirted - amused by your spitfire nature. You didn't respond to him after that - you were never the one to flirt with another man. You weren't one of those cheap fucks - you were the youngest daughter of the greatest general in the free cities - he had to earn you.
Tumblr media
"The most intelligent girl in town - not one suitor dares to fight for her hand." a servant mumbles while following Aemond and Alvira down the small market. "I apologize for my sister yesterday, she's always been the most rebellious - but we all adore her." she smiled, adjusting her youngest son to be settling on her hips.
Alvira was a petite girl - she barely reached Aemond's shoulders. She was the oldest of all five siblings - the wife of a slave master. She handled her father's household while her husband managed warfare. "She is interesting," he responded for lack of a better word.
"Papa has been trying hard to find someone who would marry her - but such is the nature of the youngest child. She's the last to leave the nest - if she ever does." she chuckled, eyes filled with love. "Do you have siblings, my prince?" the woman asked and his eye shrinks.
Does he have siblings?
He has an older brother who doesn't deserve his post. An older brother who is the reason for his sleepless nights. An older brother that he'd die for - but would never support.
He has an older sister with white hair and milky skin. Her stories were like lullabies and he'd burn the world if it meant keeping her safe. He has a younger brother. He'd burn the world for him too.
"Yes," he responded plainly - passing the stall filled with fresh oranges. He sees you there again - inspecting the fruits for the right tenderness. "(Your Name)" your sister calls, placing a hand to your shoulder. "Have you chosen the oranges for father's cake?" she asked and you shake your head.
"All of them are too tender, some are too hard." you complained with annoyance. "Let me help you," Aemond took a step forward - unaware that your shoulders bumped with each other. He reaches for a fruit, bringing it to his nose. "This one," he announces - placing it inside your basket.
Your eyebrows merge into each other - reaching for the fruit and touching it.
He was right, it was perfect.
"I'll leave the both of you, Saif is about to cry." Alvira stated while looking at her son's face. Red and annoyed, it was.
"Alright, please stay safe." you remind, smiling at the band of servants that were walking after her. "Aren't you going to leave with her? I'm not here to entertain you, princeling." you rolled your eyes, quickly walking towards the other side of the market.
Aemond couldn't help but smile at your dismissal of him. He keeps following you - waiting until you send him away. "Will you stop following me?" you groan, holding the basket close to your body while one of the guards paid for you. "No," he answered - and for a second, he forgets about the conflict in his home. He forgets about war.
"Childish," you mumbled - aware of the eyes on you. The rumors will spead tomorrow, but today - he was your only problem.
Tumblr media
He could hear music from the other side of the island - locals were dancing and playing their instruments. "Would you like to join them?" he asked, trailing behind you with his hands inside his pockets. "I don't dance, princeling." you hum - already used to his company. "There's always a first time for everything," he shrugged. "I'd rather not," you roll your eyes - feeling the music invade your eardrums. "Would you rather speak of business? I heard that it bores you," he warned.
He needed gold to travel back to his home - seeing that Vhagar had no plans in returning. Your father was the only one who could provide him with that. He needed your help.
"Anything that comes out of your mouth bores me," you insult.
"Watch me dance, it'll entertain you." he dared, taking the hat off your head and placing it upon his own. "Give it back," you internally groan but he keeps dancing, leading you towards the center of the crowd.
"Not if you dance first, my lady."
Tumblr media
The both of you only grew closer with every passing day.
"Dragons, you're fascinated with them?" Aemond takes a step inside your room, gazing upon the tapestries that decorated it. He recognized a few dragons, namely Balerion and Vhagar. "My mother was a whore from Lys - she came from the blood of Valyria." you informed, placing three books on your bedside.
"I wouldn't be shocked to see you capable of riding a dragon," he chuckled - in bitter remembrance of his own. "How about you, my prince? When will your dragon return?" you asked - excited to see her.
He sat upon one of the day-beds, popping a grape inside his mouth. "Only Vhagar knows when she'll return. If she ever does, which is why I need your help - and you're gold to sequester a ship to Westeros." he replied with a sigh. He almost forgot about the war - he almost forgot about his duties.
"I'm afraid I am as goldless as you." you admit.
All of the gold you partially owned - belonged to your father.
"Your father then, you must help me convince him." he pleaded, and you take a step forward - sitting beside him. "My father will only do it if you give him something in return." you informed.
Your father was kind - but he was cunning. Aemond was aware of your insinuation - your father wanted marriage.
Tumblr media
The gods were on his side - because the following day, his dragon landed upon your family's courtyard. Screaming for her rider. "Tis' not everyday that one sees a dragon," Meena smiles - leaning on the pillars for support. She was a warrior - like your father and she garnered the same fascination with dragons as you.
"Commander (Your Last Name), I thank you for the hospitality that you've shown me. I'm afraid that I have to cut my visit short, as duty calls for me in the other side of the sea." he smiled at your father, holding a dragon saddle in his right hand.
"Anything you ask of, my lord - I will give it to you." he thanked but your father waves him away. It was an interesting premise but the commander had no interest in dipping into the politics of a kingdom far beyond his reach. "All we ask of, is for you to remain safe." Irri bowed her head.
Tumblr media
You were the last person that he wanted to offer his goodbyes. "I had fun," he smiled in a strangely stoic posture. He'd never forget your family - he'd never forget the red door that had lemon trees in the garden. "Vhagar has been kind to me," you answer - touching the dragon's snout with care. "Dragons fascinate you, there are dozens more back home. You can leave with me, nothing ties you here." he offered - holding hope that a romance could blossom.
"A man does not offer escape with a woman - if he does not hold a little love for her." you smiled teasingly. He was a prince, yet he was cut from the same cloth as the rest. You could read him like an open book. "He does." he admits, placing a hand on Vhagar's back. "I like you, and I want to love you. I find you interesting." he professed.
His eye twinkles in the sunlight.
"I like you too." you respond with a blush. "I packed a few letters in your saddle pocket, I hope that you'll read them." you touch his shoulder - pressing a soft kiss to his cheek.
"This is the end, then? I'll never see you again." he says for certain.
"Then, I've had the honor of knowing you - at least once in my lifetime."
Tumblr media
(HARENHALL, WESTEROS)
Aemond sat by the fire, finally finding the courage to open the letter from you. He hasn't stopped thinking about you - regretting to ever step foot back inside his home. Helaena was dead now - his nephews and nieces were cold in the ground. There was no family to protect.
My prince,
I've only begun to realize that I don't know your name. I don't know your name yet I've fallen deeply and madly inclined with you. I adore you, but I cannot say that I love you. I cannot love a man who is not truly mine. You tell me that you are a warrior - and that I have no doubts. You are the strongest of the strong - the loveliest of the lovely, but I cannot reach you. I cannot reach a hero.
I can only love you when I know for certain that you are mine. I can only love you when you know that your duty in the battlefield is over, and that you have reached your limit. But you are not that - not yet.
And so, I will adore and like you from afar. Adoring and liking a man in the clouds that I will never reach.
Yours, (Your Name).
He finishes reading the letter - he looks outside the window to see his uncle camped outside the castle. My name is Aemond. He says to himself, saddened at the thought of you never knowing him by name. And I'll come back to you.

Beads of Bravery - 3/18/24
Against the armed men with heavy weapons, all they had were prayers and faith.
In a nation where freedom was sleeping, they awakened an entire population—leading to the beginning of the revolution.
That day, a garrote happened; heads were cut, but many heads grew too.
The unforgettable martyrdom of the three priests, namely Mariano Gomez, Jose Burgos and Jacinto Zamora, is forever engraved in the history books as one of the stepping stones to the huge outbreak of Filipino heroes. Their remarkable deaths marked as one of the roads in a quest for freedom. And so, their heroism is still loved by the current generation.
Last 2023, a historical biographical movie was one of the entries to Metro Manila Film Festival. It was directed by award-winning director Pepe Diokno, following the lives of the three martyr friars and their journey in fighting against the Spaniards. Titled "GomBurZa," it retells the story of how the trio's deaths affected the Filipino people and how it opened eyes from the already almost 4 centuries of invasion.
GomBurZa's plot revolves around the triad of holy men, yet it also introduces key characters such as Paciano Rizal, and his younger brother, someone who would be executed as well in the distant future, Jose Rizal. GomBurZa were acted by Dante Rivero, Cedrick Juan, and Enchong Dee, respectively, while the Rizal brothers were played by rising stars Elijah Canlas and Khalil Ramos.
The movie surely captivated its target audiences — which was the youth of this timeline. The "pag-asa ng bayan". In a generation where history is almost rotten from the minds, the need for its revival has risen. GomBurZa was even almost unknown to many of the children today, as in a Pinoy Big Brother episode last 2022, teenagers 'mistakenly' recognized the three martyr priests as 'MaJoHa'. There are also numerous films that promote the rich history of the country, such as Heneral Luna (2016) and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018). These motion pictures provide an insight for younger viewers into the historical background of the very ground they live in, and also inform the importance of knowing the roots of their culture, history, and tradition.
In the current situations happening in the Pearl of the Orient, GomBurZa has an inspiring message to every single Filipino in the nation: Up until the very end, God will never leave those who believe in Him. Despite the three martyrs' deaths, their passing provoked a change in the course of history which lead to the freedom Filipinos are enjoying now.
Even in the brink of death, with their faces covered by the people who believed in them, they still fought without the need for weapons— but with prayers, faith, and the rosary embroidered with the beads of bravery.

1899-1902: The Philippine-American War
My contribution for day 5 of @historical-hetalia-week ! After the Treaty of Paris of 1898, the Philippines was sold by Spain to the United States for $20 million dollars. When fighting broke out in February 1899, Filipinos saw it as a continuation of the revolution against Spain, but it was only an insurrection in the eyes of the US. Modern relations between the two nations are relatively friendly and this event has mostly vanished from public memory, leading to it sometimes being referred as The Forgotten War.
Notes under read more:
-This was inspired by the cover of Heneral Luna, a great film set during this period, and Maaf, a SEA-focused doujijn made by dinosaurusgede. Check them (and Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, which is Luna’s sequel) out on Netflix or YT; they pretty cool.
-The US ruled the Philippines from 4 July 1902 - 1946. It was supposed to be 1945 but the Japanese invaded and ruled during WWII so it got a bit postponed. There is a lot of irony in that date. (x)
-The war was over by 1902, but fighting continued in small pockets until 1913. The defeat of the Moros led to the annexation of Mindanao, which the Spanish had never fully captured during their time. (x)

Various thoughts on “Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral“
1.I wasn’t expecting Goyo’s PTSD arc at all, but it makes so much sense for a 20-something who’s way too young to have led a fuckton of battles. “They were schoolboys/Never held a gun” and all that. Anyhow, it made for a great character study and emotional spine.
1.1 Goyo being haunted by the elder Bernal and other victims of war. Oof. I was holding my breath through every single attack. I only really know Paulo Avelino from heartthrob type roles (but of course, this was one of those rare times that casting a kilig-type actor as a historical figure was exactly right!) so I didn’t know what to expect, but he did a really  good job portraying someone in the constant grip of war flashbacks.
1.2 I’d read about the skinny dipping incident in…was it Joaquin or Kalaw’s book? I forget. There I was, thinking it’d be used as a comedic moment; boys just having fun before they head off to war, yay!…and then BOOM, a wild death foreshadowing appears! Oookay.
1.3 Really, it was all so very: I imagine death so much it feels more like a memory/When’s it gonna get me? I wouldn’t be surprised if Tarrog was inspired by Hamilton, which rose up (heh) in the time between Goyo and Luna’s releases.
2. Alejandrino was awesome in general. Alvin Anson makes some truly excellent I Am So Done With Everybody’s Shit But Especially  White Colonizers And A Certain Up-His-Own-Ass President faces.
3. Oh, Joven. The embodiment of “stale cinnamon roll, been in this world too long, too cynical.” He looked SO weary and jaded at the start of the film, so different from his bright-eyed and bushy-tailed self in Heneral Luna that I actually whipped out my phone midway to check if it was still Arron playing him. (It was.)
3.1 One of my favorite scenes was Goyo doing his peacock dance for Remedios contrasted with Joven going through all the love letters from all of Goyo’s exes. My friend and I were like “duuuude. That’s…that’s a lot of heartbroken girls.”
3.2 Other favorite scene was when they’re all exhausted and camped out in the mountain, and Joven looks on at the hopelessness but then catches Goyo’s journal-words about his love for his country and smiles. <3
4. Gwen Zamora was really good at being steely and firm and saying hell no to Goyo’s honeyed words, haha. I wish we’d gotten to know Remedios more. Also…am I missing something? Wasn’t her sister, Dolores, historically his actual sweetheart? Which they tried to account for by having her give him the sister’s handkerchief, but still*. Anyway, I sort of feel like she was speaking for the audience/Pinoys when she was saying that she wanted to love a Human Being and not someone who was a Hero and A Symbol.
4.1 *of course the likely historical explanation is that Goyo fooled around with both sisters. Snerk.
5. I also liked Felicidad and her classy shade-throwing a lot! I wanted way more of her. Clearly, Tarrog or someone else needs to shed the spotlight on women of the revolution. I’d kill for an introspective Gregoria de Jesus flick set in the early days of the Katipunan, let me tell you.
6. I thought I’d hate Julian, and then I really liked Julian? Idk. Loved the whole repeating exchange of “Sino ka?”/”Agila.” between the del Pilar brothers. Also, where the heck did he go there at the end? It just doesn’t make sense, storywise, to have a big brother mentor figure, only to have him just disappear. He should’ve been beside Vicente there, at the grave. Or heck, at least show a shot of him receiving the news that his beloved baby brother died holding down the line in a distant mountain.
6.1  I’m SO glad the actual “agila” symbol belonged to Goyo himself. For some reason, I thought it’d be (stupidass) Aguinaldo, lmfao.
7. Vicente was my favorite. Look, it’s not my fault Carlo Aquino is flipping great in everything he acts in, okay?! Anyway I love how he was the group’s conscience, and that he looks after Joven**, and that it takes only one look from him for Goyo to lower his fists…but that he is also a hardass who will absolutely cuss out and raise his gun at any comrade who tries to escape battle.
7.1 **which, um. Joven/Vicente is a ship, right? IT IS, RIGHT? I know a lot of folks came away from Heneral Luna with shippy feels for certain people, fictional or historical, and while I supported fandom having fun, I never really got similar ~feels…until now. The last straw was when Vicente told a dude that he was screwed if anything happened to Joven during battle, like. Ka Enteng. Dude. Calm down. Quell your heart eyes.  And “Brigada Joven,” seriously? Anyway, please tell me there’s fic!
7.2 (Shippy thoughts aside, I also kind of felt it was hinted that Joven wasn’t straight. Yeah, he could just be a flop at flirting with women, but then there’s that scene where he just sits back and dazedly watches all his guy friends skinny-dipping, and, uhhh. I dunno, is it just me?)
8. Speaking of ships, someone needs to make a We Are Never, Ever, Ever Getting Back Together crack fanvid starring Aguinaldo and Mabini.
9. The iconic Battle of Tirad Pass was both exactly what I thought it’d be and really not what I thought it’d be. I…hmmm. I’m gonna have to rewatch to form a more concrete opinion. I’m just gonna say that I’m totally satisfied with how the death scene was done, and the crushing defeat after.
10. When Garcia tells Goyo that leaders may come and go but this land is forever… well, pardon my French, but: fuck me. My heart.  My friend was crying through a lot of the film because, in her words “oh God, our country got so screwed and is still so screwed, and nothing has changed and is it ever going to change?” Yeah, big mood.
Much of this movie was about deconstruction and asking the question: what makes a hero? Was Gregorio del Pilar a hero? My answer to that is: well he certainly loved this country more than *I* do most of these days, and he died for it too.

#1 Film Review: Goyo, Ang batang heneral
Tumblr media
“Goyo, Ang batang heneral” directed by Jerrold Tarog is a direct sequel to the hit Filipino film “Heneral Luna”. Both films succeeded in creating a compelling storyline depicting the Philippine history during the American regimen. The cinematography and the plot progression are also on point and is well thought out, given that both have the same director and studio (TBA studios).
To be honest, I was highly interested to watch Goyo since Heneral Luna was really a good film (in my opinion), and Goyo did not disappoint, the plot and how it was narrated was indeed good, I like how the first few scenes of the film did not just tied and connected the film to the previous film installation (Heneral Luna) but it also became the key plot point to introduce our new protagonist “Goyo”, this just shows that each and every detail in the film is highly thought out. There are other  several scenes that also showed brilliance in narration along the way but the way the film started promised a good journey ahead so I had to mention it.
Tumblr media
There are several good points to focus and mention in the film but I will focus on Goyo, Gregorio Del Pilar as a character since the whole film is basically dedicated to him (the film itself is titled after him) and also because his character is very relatable and interesting.
In comparison to Antonio Luna, Goyo is relatively young thus is less experienced when it comes to his own decisions and priorities. There are times he felt conflicted about the decisions he made and will make. Luna and Goyo are somewhat “polar opposites” of each other, Luna clearly knows what he wants and where he stands but Goyo despite having one of the highest ranks, (a general) he is still indeed  a young man on his early twenties, a boy general who is currently on his way in finding who he truly is and the real reason behind the cause he is fighting for.
Tumblr media
That particular scene above started Goyo’s internal struggles. All throughout the film, Goyo kept remembering Bernal’s words. This made him start to hallucinate and actually triggered his past traumas. Bernal clearly implies that Goyo does not have his own ground in all of these, he’s just a “dog”, a loyal dog of “Miyong”, (Emilio Aguinaldo).
All throughout the film, we see Goyo reflecting his own decisions and struggles.  His internal struggles and past traumatic experiences brought fear of his own death to the point he needed his brother’s words to remind him of who he was supposed to be and what was expected of him.
I actually felt that Goyo’s way of coping with his own monsters was through dating and playing around (dating and flirting with several women at that). I actually thought he’s not serious with Remedios but their exchanges proved me wrong. Remedios’ character and words actually knocked some sense to Goyo as seen in the film, when he read Remedios’ letter. Prior to that scene, their group was heavily struggling, trying to find a safe place to camp out. Goyo came up with a plan right after surveying the valleys surrounding them, this shows how he is clearly inspired by Remedio’s letter. Goyo was now determined to survive and set his priorities straight. At this point, I felt hope surging through my veins and was really excited with how things will proceed.
As anticipated, everything was doing good for Goyo’s side, they were able to strategically fight back the American troops but unfortunately, their strategy did not last long. I kind of knew in my gut that a Filipino will cause their downfall, and lo and behold, I was right. A local actually guided these American soldiers to outfight Goyo’s camp. (That person was probably forced and was scared to death... but still...)
Tumblr media
At this point, Goyo’s camp is losing and I was really prepared to see him die just like how the history books narrated Goyo’s unfortunate fate. I was prepared for a heroic death but what I got was something unexpected. One moment he was just peacefully contemplating his life and priorities through a series of flashbacks and the next thing I knew,  he’s shot right on the lower part of his face.
I was seriously thinking: “ Nah, that one shot won’t kill Goyo, he’s gonna stand up and fight back with all the strength he got and he’ll be really cool and heroic...” but this time I was wrong, he literally died right away... his death was somewhat uneventful for a protagonist but is very realistic when compared to the real world.
I was just expecting a really heroic death scene just like how Luna’s death scene was but guess they’re truly opposites...even in their death scenes.
I kind of understand why the writers did this kind of death for Goyo, they wanted to portray something realistic. They wanted to show how Goyo is just like one of us, how Goyo is just a human too despite being a General at a young age. I felt that the writers wanted us to learn and internalize like Goyo, he was not made to greatly awaken our passion for our country like how Luna was portrayed... Goyo was made for us to think and reflect on our own priorities, actions, and decisions as Filipinos and as individual human beings.
All in all, it was a really good film with a relatable hero! (but I still can’t move on from his anticlimactic death scene LOL ) Kudos to the production team and to Director Tarog for making this incredibly good film!

Ready, set, know where to go: Words to live by from Kevin Limjoco
Tumblr media
The 18-student bunch of the 4MEM Multiplatform Journalism elective (back) with founder and president of the 18-year success publication of C! Magazine, Mr. Kevin Limjoco (left), and his bud, Mr. Ardie Lopez (right), professor of the class
FEBRUARY 8, 2019 — Kevin Limjoco graced the four walls of the Multiplatform Journalism class last Friday in the University of Asia Pacific with his wit, wisdom, and free copies of C! Magazine. C! Magazine is an 18-year success founded by Mr. Limjoco himself, and is the ultimate automotive authority in print and publication, where vehicles of all kinds and passion-riders from all walks of life gather and galore over the latest inside scoop in the industry. Despite the class being a rather unlikely target market for the magazine, what Mr. Limjoco brought to the table was more than just the international acclaim of his publication. He brought with him a story of life and experiences.
Of course, it all began with his pride and joy that is C! Magazine. The magazine’s journey was not all smooth joyrides. Rather, it was quite unprecedented. In the publication’s beginning years, the road was long and rough. Mr. Limjoco recounted that many doubted C! Magazine would even go far. Not only is it a magazine published by Filipinos (to which he counters against the prejudice of it being a “Filipino magazine”—because it is, indeed, something that we should be proud of), but it also caters to a very niche market. And yet look where they are now: precisely, the only Filipino magazine to be exported internationally. What is even interesting is that the magazine is known more outside of the Philippines than domestically.
As the tale excitingly unfolds, Mr. Limjoco continues to express his love and joy for cars and the industry as a whole. According to him (and evidently so!), it is this enthusiasm that literally drove him to conquer the lane of print media and stay on top and head of the game. He firmly discounts that print is a purportedly declining medium. Far from it, actually. Because while it is true that many companies are turning over to the digital world for convenience of free and wide distribution, and overall accessibility, the print industry still has a wide market of readers who take pleasure in luxury reading and craving a sensory experience.
With every turn, touch, and crisp sound of the glossy, hefty pages; the striking photography matched with thought-provoking articles of the automotive world; and even the smell of finely-printed paper reminiscent of newly-bought, fresh-out-of-the-bag magazines we also used to adore as children—nothing beats sentimental value quite like something tangible firmly within your grasp.
Moreover, Mr. Limjoco firmly believes where there is still a market present in an industry, go for it so long as you sell products with quality—and that is the advocacy and ideal manifested by C! Magazine.
Tumblr media
The man with the plan
Along with his passion is his knack for curiosity, inquisition, and a constant drive for learning. Being a journalist, he says, is more than just about writing articles (which, surprisingly, he claims to hate writing). It is about going out and getting your hands dirty to get the best of experiences, to fact-check and be critical-minded, to uphold integrity and trump complacency, and make every single second count because life goes by at the speed of light (or maybe, in this case, race cars?). This is why he dedicated his life, as well, to diving into history books and making his own scripts from his expansive knowledge of Philippine history. Subsequently, with his patriotism ablaze, he also went into acting for Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (Goyo: The Boy General), where he had much to say about its historical inaccuracy (a big kudos to that!).
With determination, perseverance, and strategy, it was clear to him that he wanted to go above and beyond than just running a business; and that meant expanding his knowledge infinitely. Knowledge is power, after all, what more with that being driven by passion with a purpose? He wanted to show the world what he, his team, and perhaps, even Filipinos in general, are capable of doing and being.
As I have come to learn, Kevin Limjoco is humorous and charismatic just as he is passionate with everything he does. He is not just a founder or a good ol’ car enthusiast, but also a savvy businessman, historian, actor, and most of all, a man that lives without wasting a waking moment, while imparting wisdom undeniably rooted from years of toil and hard work. He is fueled by his desire to expand his horizons wherever and however we can. Mr. Kevin Limjoco is an inspiration, especially to media students like us who are aspiring for greatness but have yet to find a potential niche for the future.
Now that is extraordinary journalism.

The Price of Love [a Grecinto ficlet]
Titulo: The Price of Love
Fandom: Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral / Bayaniserye
Ship: Goyo/Ilyong (Grecinto)
Summary: Ilyong sees Goyo after the Battle of Kakarong de Sili.
Notes: Inspired by twitter user @1ganiiii’s cute art... na ginawa kong angst lmao. beta-read by @waltangina <3
Ao3 Link: https://archiveofourown.org/works/16488104
Ilyong’s breath catches in his throat when he sees him.
The bane of Ilyong’s existence stands a few feet away, looking worse for wear. White gauze covers his forehead, where a bullet reportedly grazed him — Ilyong winces, a hand flying to his own temple as if he could feel the phantom pain brought upon by a gunshot.
He himself hadn’t been shot in that area, but he’s seen too many soldiers shot dead through the head.
At times, war and death seemed to be synonymous.
Since he joined the Katipunan in 1894, Iyong knew it would not be easy. He knew what he had entered, he knew what was at stake — freedom, independence, love of the country — and he was prepared to pay the price for it.
He wasn’t as prepared to see the people he cared about paying the same price.
“Goyo!” He’s running towards him before he can stop himself.
“Ilyong,” the taller boy breathes out. Ilyong gets a split-second chance to see that look of amazement on Goyo’s stupid face before he captures him in a fierce embrace.
The side of Ilyong’s cheek brushes against rough fabric of Goyo’s uniform as he presses himself tightly to Goyo. Goyo’s arms wrap themselves around Ilyong’s waist, a firm, comforting anchor that ties Ilyong down to the physical world away from the abstraction of his worries and fears.
“Sabik mo na ba akong makita?” Goyo’s chest rumbles with a bemused chuckle.
“Tangina mo,” Ilyong mutters without heat. Buhay ka, buhay ka, buhay ka, Ilyong’s mind chants almost in sync with the way Goyo’s heart beats a steady rhythm that only Ilyong’s ears are privy to. Buhay ka.
One of Goyo’s hands reaches him to softly stroke Ilyong’s hair. No words are spoken, they don’t need it.
Locked in an embrace that speak of desperation, relief and love, Ilyong and Goyo understand each other perfectly.
Buhay tayo…
At lalaban pa rin.

Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral
Tumblr media
Gregorio Sempio del Pilar is one of the bravest young general in our country. In history, he become general in the age 24 and known as the playboy in town. He is one of the del Pilar family as we all know that he was related to Marcelo H. del Pilar who made the ‘ La Solidaridad’.
According to Manuel Bernal in the movie entitled “Goyo: Ang Batang General” made by the studio Artikulo Uno, Goyo was Emilio Aguinaldo’s dog who only knows how to obey his master and not a real soldier nor a hero. He and his comrades are also the one who killed or tortured Manuel Bernal.
For me, Goyo was annoying and at the same time inspiring. Annoying because he left all the girls that become his girlfriend and just look for another one whom he’ll hurt next and inspiring because even though he was traumatized before he become a general when the other country attacked us, he has become a general in a young age and  even though we was not sure on what to do, still he’s doing it in order to protect the president itself.
He was known as the player, he has many girls in every town his visiting. Then he met Remedios that change him. Although Remedios, herself don’t know if he’ll believe him or not. While fighting the americans, Goyo read the letter of Remedios that motivates him to fight back with all his heart as he writes a letter for her as well. However, he didn’t have the chance to give it himself and be with her forever because, by that time he was got killed, shot with his nape. The end of Gregorio Del Pilar’s life.

Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral
Tumblr media
by: Talebearerqueen (Samantha Manga)
This will be a review about the film Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral, but I won’t be giving any spoiler more on the whole movie itself. I’ll be tackling the cinematography, music used in the film, and the actors who acted in the film.
CINEMATOGRAPHY AND CAMERA WORK
In the start of the film, there were parts that made me dizzy due to the camera work, also the stability of the camera was also an issue for me whenever the camera was following a character, I don’t know if that’s really what the director wanted, but because of the unstable camera work, it gives the film a indie type of vibe, which Goyo is not. Although, the cinematography made up for weak camera work, the shots of the landscapes and the different scenes wherein the rule of thirds was followed. Also the color-grading was outstanding, as an audience I would understand when it was a flashback, dream or just when the actor was having a “moment” in the scene.
MUSIC
Music is important in any film because it determines the feelings and emotion the scene shows. Music is the tool that moves the audience to tears, happiness and etc. The film succeeded in moving the audience, through the music used in scenes, I could definitely feel the emotion in every single scenes. There were some scenes though when the feeling was supposed to be inspiring and hopeful, the music was kind of edm-ish (Electronic Dance Music) and it totally destroyed the emotion I had in that scene. So I guess consistency is somewhat lacking in the music department for me in some scenes.
ACTORS
Being an effective actor is hard work, even if they have a little role, if they’re effective actors, they make the role big. Effective actors are what I look for in films because they get the emotion they want out of me. The most effective actor from this film is Mon Confiado portraying Emilio Aguinaldo. He is my favourite because I actually hated his character which is proof that he is an effective actor.
Paulo Avelino portraying Gregorio Del Pilar is an intense portrayal because he didn’t as have many lines as Heneral Luna in the previous film. He mostly had to show his internal emotions using facial expressions which I know for a fact is very difficult. Also Goyo was a charming man back in the day, making every women he sees swoon over him, which was a piece of cake for Paulo Avelino, since he is naturally charming.
FINAL THOUGHTS
The film physically speaking was very beautiful and the filmmaker did a very good job in making it look beautiful. Also the casting was done well and also the research of the director was very thorough, he established a theme he wanted (he mentioned in an interview) and fit the pieces together with the scenes they put together, which anyone with a good eye for film will observe that it did have a theme from the books in history. The overall problem of the film for me was just consistency. They film had a good build up, but it just lost the intensity towards the end. Which was underwhelming. I’d probably rate it as an 8/10. Although the flow of the film lacked consistency it still showed the history that some of us don’t know. The film can help students learn more about the history of the Philippines, which is why it is important to watch this film.

historical movie suggestions
Tumblr media
Heneral Luna (2015) dir. Jerrold Tarog
Set during the Philippine-American war, a short-tempered Filipino general faces an enemy more formidable than the American army: his own treacherous countrymen.
“I'm a girl who isn't into Philippine History. I got forced to watch this movie and it became a great inspiration to me. General Luna is a great lesson to filipino people nowadays. He taught us how to defend our country.“
“Each scene is directed wonderfully. It makes the whole colonial transition of the Philippines interesting with every event.“
Tumblr media
Goyo: Ang Batang Heneral (2018) dir. Jerrold Tarog
The life of Gregorio `Goyo' del Pilar, one of the youngest generals during the Philippine-American War, who fought in the Battle of Tirad Pass.
“One of the greatest films in Philippine cinema, kudos to the people who made the film possible (a big thanks to y'all). The cinematography is splendid and adds more flavor to the emotions. I appreciate how the film brings historical authenticity, from weapons, dress, churches, vehicles and the sound. Some parts are kinda dragging but all in all the film is truly a gift to all the Filipinos. Excited for the final installment of  the trilogy. 9/10“
“This movie is very historical can bring back you in the old days to know what happened in philippine american war“
