Making An Entirely New Pokémon Region! PART 2 — Samphirea's Starters.
Hello and good day, evening, afternoon, wherever you are! This is part two of MAENR, and we have headed to the starters now! If you don't know what's going on, I suggest you check my other post, which is Part 1.
Lets dive right in! ART INCOMING!!!!!
NOTE: The reason why there arent any colors or shading is because theese drawings are concepts. I will finish them another day.
Following a Grass/Fire/Water trio, the starters will be based on some of the most popular animals in India!
And for this I've picked:
- Bengal Tiger (For a Water Type)
- Indian Cobra (For a Fire Type)
- Indian Peafowl (For a Grass Type)
_ _ _
Originating from the forests, comes Sapphlume, the Luminescent Fledgling Pokémon possesing the Grass type.
Tumblr media
This pokémons crystals on it's forehead and the one attached to the string-like "ahoge" are said to glow in the dark.
Sapphlume, as for the personality, is very wary at first when meeting its trainer or someone new, however easily tamed and become friendly once getting to know them better.
At level 15, Sapphlume evolves into Aegisfowl, the Opulent Plume Pokémon.
Tumblr media
At this stage, the Pokémon becomes more aggressive and defensive when it comes to their dearest friends, almost always keeping an eye on them. This HIGHLY increases their DEFENSE stat.
When close to evolution, Aegisfowl tends to become more tame, and less aggressive.
And then finally, at level 36, comes in Spectryterra, the Royal Luminary Pokémon.
Tumblr media
This Pokémon is given a Ground type as a secondary type, refrencing the fact that wild Spectryterras are commonly found in forest-like parts of Landouraville.
As for behaviour? Spectryterras are completely tame and gentle, almost calm in any situation, while they remain on the watch for their folks.
Their majestic looks give them the ability "Cute Charm".
- - - - - - -
Residing from cold riverbanks, comes in Mistdrop, the Striped Mist Pokémon possesing the Water type.
Tumblr media
It is said that it's antennas point to a looked object or person, when Mistdrop picks up a scent.
As for behaviour, Mistdrops are really enthusiastic, yet curious, if they're going to a new place, expect this Pokémon to be sniffing around EVERYTHING.
At level 15, Mistdrop evolves into Vapormistrix, the Pure H2O Pokémon, keeping the Water type.
Tumblr media
At this stage, the pokémon's fangs become bigger and stronger.
Theese Pokémon are often said to be really independent, and rarely listen to orders.
And finally, at level 36, Vapormistrix evolves into Mystiqflow, the Flowy Rainmaker Pokémon.
Tumblr media
It is said that the antennas can also be used to predict it's opponents next move, but also one's emotions, giving this Pokémon a secondary Psychic type.
This mon gains back dependence on its trainer, and also loves hugs, which might soak the trainer wet because of it's trails on the paws and naturally cold bodies like Ice, making them learn a few Ice-Type moves.
As for more info, this Pokémons fangs are even bigger, however it keeps them hidden a lot.
- - - - - - - -
Originating from hot deserts, comes out Flagramask, the Masked Cobra Pokémon.
Tumblr media
This Pokémon tends to share alot in common with Cubones, and trainers often find their Flagramasks with them, as they make great friends.
At first, Flagramask is really restrained, and acts like nothing really matters to them, yet deeply cares about it's folks.
At level 15, Flagramask evolves into Meltmaskra, the Melted Skull Pokémon.
Tumblr media
They are now more venomous, causing them to learn a few Poison-Type moves, as crystals also start growing out of its body. Some say, the longer the spikes, the closer to evolution it is.
As for acts, this Pokémon becomes territorial, however their synergy is still boosted when a Cubone is nearby, almost treating it like a younger sibling, or its young.
Yet finally, at level 36, Meltmaskra evolves into Maskaldra, the Spiked Dragon Pokémon.
Tumblr media
The spikes on it's back have grew out, and tend to be worse than a rose's thorns. A bright, saturated flame on the mask's horns. This Pokémon gains "Dragon" as it's secondary type.
This Pokémon is very aggressive and territorial, yet a good parent, and very affectionate to their trainers.
- - - - - - - -
This post was late, so I sadly posted this at 4AM as I only has Sapphlume done. I hope you like theese starters, but my question is....

ayo what it laventon's line in the pokedex of "copperajah of my homeland" isn't implying that he's not from galar
what if it's implying that the cufant/copperajah of galar are regional variants, and we might see an original form of cufant/copperajah in a future game

Thank you @ShaunSmallest on Twitter for doing an incredible job at bringing this concept to life!
The line is a regional mountainous variant of Mareep, Flaafy, and Ampharos, cousins from across the sea!
Inspire by the Paiute tale ‘Na-gah becomes the North Star’ and the Cahuilla tale ‘Young Boys Climb the Mountain’
Still need to decide on their native and English names.

Pokemon fans whom also knows/follows Hinduism
So, this is probably an unusual ask, but if there’s someone on this page that knows about both pokemon and hinduism, I could use your help.
I’m a fan of making fakemon regions, and I’m basing different trainers off different gods.
I make the top god or goddess/the ruler of the pantheon the region’s champion, family members of, or other just as popular/well known gods/goddesses becomes the elite 4 members, and other popular/well known gods/goddesses becomes the gym leaders, or other important/noticeable characters in order to fill out the world and make it more believable/lived in.
So my question is, which of the hindu gods would you see as the most natural fit as the chamipon/elite 4? From what I understand it, there isn’t a god/goddess that’s the designated ruler in this pantheon, but there are also some very important ones that holds great importance.
From what I’ve learned, there’s the trio of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva. Then there’s Ganesha, whom always gets prayed to first if I remember correctly. And then there’s Indra, who’s seen as a king without that being his official title as far as I understand it. So yeah, I’m having a bit of a hard time figuring out who would most naturally fit where, and I would appriciate some help if you can give it.

Could I ask a review for the good old fish boy Relicanth
Tumblr media
Relicanth is a coelacanth, no big surprises there. Much like the IRL animal, it was considered extinct for many years before being rediscovered and hasn't really changed at all in a hundred million years. I really like that it's found out in the wild but is still water/rock, meaning that it shares the secondary rock typing of most fossil 'mons.
Tumblr media
It's a fairly plain Pokemon, but the big thing it has going for it is its grumpy old man face. It's a pretty subtle element in the grand scheme of things, but it is fun to have it actually look as old as it is, and it adds a bit of flavor to an otherwise straightforward design.
Outside of that, the brown coloration both reflects its rock-typing but also references the Indonesian coelacanth's color. As an added bonus, its shiny is blue, referencing the West Indian Ocean coelacanth.
Tumblr media
Beyond that, Relicanth also has the weird feature of a random red dot on it. I don't mind adding some extra color, but the way it's just stuck there with no real rhyme or reason is strange. I've heard people claim its body is a map to the regis, but I've never seen any supporting evidence for this, and given that nothing in the 'dex mentions a map I'm not terribly inclined to believe it, though that would be a neat idea.
I think Relicanth's biggest problem is just that it's fairly forgettable—it's not a 1:1 of a coelacanth but it's pretty close, and between it being fairly monotone in color (save for the aforementioned red dot) and non-evolving there's just not a lot to really make it stand out.
But then again, you couldn't have it evolve, give it a regional form, etc. because the entire point is that it hasn't evolved in 100 million years. It's probably the only Pokemon where being a straightforward one-stage Pokemon is basically part of the theme itself.
Tumblr media
So overall: it's a coelacanth, all right. If you like silly old man faces and like coelacanths, you're going to love this guy.

What have you learned about Incineroar?
Incineroar Facts
Tumblr media
-The scientific word for the Incineroar line is "Panthera Heela" which roughly translates to "Heel Cat
-Ancient Incenoroar walked on all fours. It's most likely that humans bred them to be bipedal
-Inceneroar will often let Litten win when play fighting to give them a boost of confidence so they can play longer. Other pokemon like Lycanroc and Boltund do this as well
-Incenroar are closely related to Pyroar, Luxray, and Persian. All of these pokemon are classified as Panthera, and are put in the Feline category
-Incineroars fire placement being on their hips seem rather impractical, but scientists have two theories. The first is that the pokemon take advantage of the humidity and airflow of Alola, which can cool their sacs and stop them from overheating. The second is that it helps attract mates (both of these seem to bre true)
-Inceneroar like to hunt larger and fattier prey, like drowzee. These pokemon are also completely carnivorous, unlike Litten and Torracat, who are omnivores
-While most of the time, Inceneroar mothers raise young litten alone, they will usually act friendly if they come across the father again, and the father might leave the young litten prey to eat
-Incineroar stripes also appear on their skin
Tumblr media
-If you smell popcorn in the middle of a tropical forest, it’s best to leave the area. Incineroar mark their territory by urine, and their urine smells like popcorn
-While Incineroar don’t like the water, they’re known to be excellent swimmers
-Researchers think that the Inceneroar originally came from a different region, somewhat near the Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh regions.
(OOC: came from an Indian pokemon region)
-Incineroar lose the ability to purr when they evolve, so instead they make a sound that sounds something like a mix between a moo, meow, and a growl to show affection. The sound they make is called a chuff
-Incinroar will give warnings before they're about to attack. Their warnings include roars, puffing uo flames, and growling while pawing at the ground
-An inceneroar roar max volume can be heard from 3 Kilometers away (1.7 miles)

was thinking about like, what to include in say fan poke regions for places and then thought about how
Unova (Pokemon USA/New York) has fucking Egyptian mummies, Ba more or less (one of the aspects of the soul in ancient Egyptian religion), leopards, zebras, monkeys, tapirs/baku, daruma dolls, Nazca lines, Archaeopteryx (a fossil found in Europe), kitsune, chinchillas, knight bug, ninja slug, knight snail, more fucking knights, giant anteater, a Slavic dragon with a german naming scheme, fucking 3 Musketeers hooved critters, fucking djinn, Taoism dragons…
Kalos (Pokemon France) has fucking pandas, ninja frogs, lions (you could argue that the lions fit historically but I'm not that nice), nekomata, frilled lizards, Amargasaurus (found in Argentina), luchador hawk, pumpkins, ice burgs, and Norse mythology legendaries
why are the fucking 3 Musketeers legendaries in pokeAmerican and not pokeFrance?
Alola (pokemon Hawaii) has fucking tigers, toucans, yeti, wolves, red pandas, lemurs, orangutans, mata mata turtles, lion legendary, and koalas
Pokemon Japan (Johto, Hoenn, Sinnoh/Hisui) has fucking rattlesnakes, cobras, pangolins, Rafflesia, hula dancer flower, couger/puma that is also a carbuncle (Latin american monster), platypus, ostrich, rhinos, kangaroos, echidna, totem pole bird, giraffes, elephants, hyenas, poncho and sombrero wearing ludicolo, sloths, gorillas, Easter Island heads, Hopkinsville Goblin (a USA alien sighting), Indian mystics, red-bellied piranha, camels, pandas, cactuses, coelacanths, golems, Biblical monster legendaries, penguins, bevers, lions, skunks, hippos, venus flytraps, yeti, mammoths, and djinn
hhhhhhhhhhhhh. Pokemon ecology is extremely fucked up. And also, the president is doing whatever apparently.

in hindsight, easily the funniest remnant of Pokemon's early days being set in the (kinda-)real world is the Kanto Region.
You can scrub Indian Elephants and Lightning Americans from the series all you want, the Kanto Region is grandfathered in. It's iconic. You can't possibly get rid of it without a full reboot.
All the later games made up fantasy world versions of wherever they were based on. Hokkaido? No, no. Sinnoh. New York? Unova, actually.
But Gen 1 forever takes place here:

What fucks me up about pokemon is that there is canonically, some version of America. In games as late as b2w2 Lt Surge is still referred to as the "Lightning American" and also theres that old pokedex entry that refrences Indian elephants. Is Unova America or is it a region within that universe's America like how Kanto and Johto are in Japan. Or is it something else entirely? Is the country that Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh are located in also known in universe as Japan or is it something else? Brain hurty

Tumblr media
I was kinda inspired to make a traditional Indian Dress by a fakemon (Basically, fanmade Pokemon) region based on India, it caught my attention and one of the mons there gave me atleast some motivation to work on it although it's my first time drawing Indian dress so it turned out to be fine for me tbh
May give her to someone who might want her so yeah, enjoy ig

Making An Entirely New Pokémon Region! PART 1 — Samphirea, the region with Mixed Weather.
As the title speaks for itself, I've decided to put all my Pokémon knowledge to the test and try to create a region, but on pretty much hard mode.
Here are my rules for this challenge.
- No researching anything about pkmn
- No using already existing duo type things for starters (fire/fighting etc)
- I have to pick atleast 2 pokemon to have new forms for this region.
- No basing the region on countries that already exist (japan, great britian and spain is all i remember rip.)
- no using chatgpt or any ai to help with creativity
- starters have to follow grass/fire/water trio
But ofcourse, you can give out suggestions!
LET'S DIVE RIGHT IN!
This region is merely based on India. The country residing in South Asia.
The name of this region contains a few things popular in India, such as Sapphire, and Samosa.
"Why this combination?"
- Samosa Is known to be one of the most popular foods in India.
- Blue Sapphires are pretty popular gems in India.
And so, I'm gonna be naming this region Samphirea. A region that's places can go from ice cold mountains, to hot deserts. The pokemon living in it can look VERY different because of this, but before we can move onto the starters, we need to decide where the people starting their journeys get them from, which brings us to the topic of a famous, famous Village.
Landouraville — The famous region in Samphirea.
In this village, a popular one indeed, lives a professor, which we'll talk about in the next part!
To decide a name for it, I took Landour, a village in India known for it's leopards, pine trees and mountains.
The name of this village will be Landouraville, a place known for snowy mountains, beautiful nature and hot beaches.
Next part, we'll be moving onto the starters as people now have somewhere they can pick them from!

Something I find really enduring about Pokémon is how gamefreak is afraid of retcons. Oh, sure. Fans old enough to be there at the start can tell stories about how references to real world places and animals has been replaced with various regions and Pokémon (Indian Elephant being replaced with Copperajah is honestly my favorite), but for the actual Pokémon lines, they almost never do this.
You could breed Marill and Sudowoodo in Generation 2, so why couldn’t I get Azurill and Bonsly in Gold/Silver? Well because you needed the non-baby pokemon to be holding special incense to make it happen. Why couldn’t my Electabuzz and Girafarig evolve until the DS/Switch. Well Electabuzz needed an item to hold while trading that you couldn’t find in Kanto. And Girafarig needed to know Twin Beam. They could clearly always evolve. You just didn’t have what you needed in those earlier games.
I have no deeper meaning to this, and I’m sure you can find examples of me being wrong (I learned in my research to spell the names right that those breeding examples are actually no longer the case), but I think you’ll still find it more true then not with evolution lines.

Top 5 real life places you’d like to see turned into Pokémon regions
Oh boy here we go. Thank you!
In no particular order:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I live in the southeastern USA and I'd love to see a region like that. Span all the way from the Atlantic to Louisiana. Maybe even Texas? Woods, farmland, swamps, plains. An area similar to the Bayou and have a city rich in culture like New Orleans. The region can be split by a river kinda like the Mississippi and have some mountains like the Appalachian. Gotta be a possum Pokemon, new deer Pokemon, fucking mosquito Pokemon. The Lizard Man would be a Mythical Pokemon (and no not the Lizardman tattooed performer fella, I'm talking THE LIZARD MAN of South Carolina infamy.) Florida is in the DLC
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Aussie region. Include Tasmania and New Zealand as well maybe? Deserts and beaches and mountains and rainforests. GOTTA have a building that is as recognizable as the Sydney Opera House. GOTTA have a Great Barrier Reef. I'd wanna see a kangaroo Pokemon, a kiwi Pokemon, A THYLACINE Pokemon. Echidna and platypus ones too. Komala has a regional evolution.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
An Indian region would be so pretty. You'd have deserts and tropics and plains and then a mountain range like the Himalayas. Farms and fishing rivers. Gorgeous architecture and a building like the Taj Mahal. The region where Cufant and Copperajah are from! Also gotta have a new tiger Pokemon and maybe a river dolphin or a rhino.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Would loooooove an Egypt region. So much desert and countless sand dunes but of course something like the Nile river and valley with oases full of date palms and all that. So pretty. Temples and pyramids and obelisks; just so much ancient architecture but of course integrate the modern, bustling society as well. Gotta have the Suez Canal and the peninsula. The legendaries would be inspired by Egyptian mythology obviously. Like a Sphinx Pokemon! The desert in Unova is pretty much the vibe, just more large scale and more Egyptian.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
My final dream region is Mexico! Hot arid areas, tropical rainforests, beaches, and mountains like the Sierra Madre. The gulf! Incorporate the Chicxulub Crater into the lore of the region. Can be the same type of extinction event as the real world and that's what took out the Tyrantrum and Bastiodon and all them. Gotta have them ancient Mesoamerican temples and pyramids. Pokemon like coatls and jaguar and spider monkey Pokemon. A CHIHUAHUA POKEMON. A chupacabra Pokemon would be wild. Hawlucha would have multiple aesthetic variants.
Honorable mentions: Brazil, Greece/Italy/Mediterranean

Interesting that the Treasures of Ruin are clearly inspired by Chinese mythology. Is that perhaps a hint to the basis of the next region? *wink wink*
I mean it's possible, but then, we thought the same thing about Copperajah being based on India and Indian culture and possibly being brought to Galar from Pokemon India and then the next region ended up being... Spain.

Could I request some Champion Geeta headcanons? Thank you!
Of Indian descent (whatever region in Pokemon that is). She's fluent in both Poke-Hindi and Spanish.
She's been accused of intentionally using weaker teams, though she denies this. Whether this is true or why she might do it is unknown.
She is very bad at leading people and generally doesn't listen to people's complaints or preferences when it comes to running gyms and whatnot.
Basically Poppy's cool aunt figure.
She's just a regular champion in terms of battling capabilities, but she runs and supervises other parts of Paldea's battling circuit (like gyms), making her title more of a job than an accomplishment.
She found her Glimmora as a Glimmet in a cave when she was young. She uses it out of sentimentality, even though it's not really that strong.
