(That banner doesn’t really do the show justice.)
After a less-than-ideal experience seeing Indecent at the Ahmanson, I  didn’t want my primary memory of this play to be the inconsiderate jerks who decided to mess around with their phones in the middle of it.  So I tried my luck with the $25 TodayTix lottery to see if things would go a little better than before.
As it turns out I did win a ticket, for what was about the best seat I could have wished for – Orchestra, dead center, a few rows back from the stage.  There were about ten empty seats in the rows ahead but given the stage height I think my location was very nearly ideal.
I’m glad I saw this a second time (not just because of the unexpectedly great seat) and am tempted to go see it again, because the more I think about the show, the more interesting things I remember in it.
(thoughts below, contains spoilers)
It was easier to understand on second viewing. While the story is told chronologically, the changes in location/time/context can be significant, and often rely on music (well-performed by the band and actors) to give a sense of time and place. In a way it reminded me of Come From Away with everyone running around changing hats and such, but while CFA is telling a story, this is telling a story about telling a story and the character transitions are sometimes highlighted more in order to do that.
Visually there were some very striking tableaus and moments - notably the rain scene when it finally happens, and last scene with the acting troupe (which caused gasps and murmurs in the audience).  Might have to go find the Great Performances recording so I can pause and look longer.
I like the theme of creation/translation/interpretation that runs through the play.  If I remember correctly Lemml talks about the way the play and in particular the rain scene made him feel fairly early on, but the audience only gets to see that at the end when we finally see the rain scene performed. Up until that point we only get parts of it in glancing/off-center/filtered ways, starting from the first oddly stilted moment when Sholem and Madje Asch recite words to each other to the reluctant/bluntly emoted first reading to the awkward rehearsals to the rather declamatory way it is expressed in the attic. Only at the end do we get a version that is what I assume to be the closest to reality that we would get on a stage, after having gone through this play-length depiction of translation (first from the writer’s mind to the page, from the page in Yiddish to the page in English, from the page in English to an actor’s version in English of an actor’s version in Yiddish, and finally to an actor’s version in Yiddish).
Enjoyed Lemml’s arc, going from bystander to fanboy to stage manager to director to (in a sense) a writer himself.
Now I want to read the play (that is, Indecent, although God of Vengeance could be good too); there are parts that I think might be more striking in plain text.

I should have posted this weeks ago, but I went to see Indecent with @kathowards and @undyingdoloresumbrage, and I cannot find the words to express it. Indecent is such an important and relevant story to tell, especially in today’s political climate. Paula Vogel’s play touches on issues of religion, sexual orientation, representation, immigration, and the struggle to find one’s voice and to find acceptance. It is incredibly important to see and understand this show, regardless of religion, sexual orientation, or immigrant status, and I hope everyone has the chance to see it. You should and will cry (we sure did), and maybe you’ll hate the world afterward, but you’ll understand it a lot better. Above all, it’s a story of hope, for a better future, for having learned from our pasts, and for a kinder, more compassionate world.

saw the play indecent tonight, still processing a lot of feelings about it. im glad to have access to great jewish theatre in my city. and queer jewish theatre, that's like a double blessing.
though now i really want to see god of vengeance, the play that indecent is about - & the first broadway play (in 1923) to show a kiss between two women. i knew that one fact about the play, bc i am extremely gay and a theatre nerd, but i didn't know much else about it or how extremely jewish it was.
(eventually the whole cast was arrested for obscenity, but not entirely because of the lesbianism - the show also depicted sex workers as whole human beings with, y'know, feelings and lives and love and that was Outrageous both among nonjews who were mad about this jewish playwright writing jewish characters extremely jewishly AND among jewish people who were mad that the show had jewish sex workers & would contribute to antisemitism.)

Give my admiration to Mr. Asch. He has crafted a play that shrouds us in a deep, deep fog of human depravity. And then, like a lighthouse, those two girls. That is a beacon I will remember.
