Gerard Murphy and Margaret Fitzgerald, crowned King and Queen of Scrapland, act out a play with others using materials from the scrap metal drive at the Children's Aid Society's West Side Center, September 22, 1942. Kids at the center collected four tons of scrap on the first day of the war effort drive.
why is it that listening to a concert in person with my actual ears feels like all the noise in the universe is put into an cacophony blender where i cannot hear the guitars clearly or even hear myself at all but when i listen to the video recordings on my phone it sounds like Dolby Stereo Digital Surround Sound Studio Quality where everything sounds perfect and also my singing voice is incredibly loud and slightly out of tune. can other people hear that. am i ruining the concert for everybody else by singing along to every song 😭 i feel so bad for the people who sat next to me at both the fob show and the mcr show.
much like with Dracula Daily, this LotR Daily newsletter really does lend a new perspective to the text. The hobbits go through SO MUCH in their first 48 hours out of Hobbiton, and it only gets more intense after leaving the Shire. Black Riders! Elves! Farmer Maggot! Nearly killed by trees! Tom Bombadil! Barrow-wrights! The Prancing Pony, Strider, and more Black Riders!
And then there’s a gentle break of relatively peaceful but uneasy travel…then WEATHERTOP… Then it seems briefly like we’re in for more uneasy travel but! Frodo is ill and getting worse, wrapped more deeply in shadows every day, and little happens day to day but I can feel the tension in a way I never have before, of this race to Rivendell before either the Black Riders or the wraithly fading catch up with them.
10/10 would reread more works of literature like this.
