what's good about a pilot falcon?

HI! The Pilot Falcon (older generations were sold in the US as the Namiki Falcon for whatever reason) is a japanese fountain pen manufactured by Pilot!

it's often referred to as the best modern flex pen, or the best gold nib for a beginner! Tldr for people who aren't pen nerds, a flex pen is a pen that...well, flexes! Most pens have some sort of "flex" to them that results in some sort of line variation, but flex pens can handle a relatively higher amount of pressure. Think like a G nib used in a lot of manga. Old pens were the MASTERS at this, and a good bit of that is due to the nibs being made of gold, which naturally has a "bounce" to it that modern steel nibs have a really hard time living up to. Most people wax poetic about Waterman or other vintages like that because of it. Even modern gold nibs can't really keep up with the gold nibs of yore, but the Falcon is considered to be one that can. I do think legally it's considered a "soft" nib, meaning it's not truly a flex pen but has a lot of flex qualities to it, but some terms that get used are used interchangably so. idk. True flex nibs aren't really a thing in fountain pens these days outside of Noodler's Ahab and Konrad (which are their own nightmare and a half tbh).

The Falcon prized amongst artists for it's very fine nib, which Japanese pen manufacturers like Pilot and Platinum are known for. A Japanese Fine is comparable to a Western (Kaweco, Lamy) Extra fine, and a lot of these pens come in an EF, F, and M. It gets alot of nice line variation despite being so small, and is really an all-around great pen, if legend is to be believed :] An alternative to buying the Pilot Falcon would be getting the Pilot 912 FA, which has something called the "Falcon Nib," not to be confused with the actual pen. They actually look pretty different. The FA nib (right) has these weird cuts on their side that help with flexing and allow it to mimic a full-flex nib, but again. According to legend, modern pens don't flex like vintage pens do, but it IS pretty close.

I've never used either myself, but I'm pretty picky about my pens and so I don't know if I'd ever pay upwards of $200 unless I got familiar with the nib first tbh....The falcon's nib isn't offputting to me like many feel about it, but I'm particular about aesthetics and the feedback on paper and I can't tell if I like them just from looks alone lol. Right now, I don't have much experience with pilot nibs, but if i were to get a pilot pen, tbh I'm looking at the Pilot Elite/e95s in a fine or medium, or a vintage platinum pocket pen.

her arrival in town , and the nature of how she's arrived , have done very little to help assuage her . the change has presented more opportunities , yes , but has also provided them with more questions than they have answers . though generally well-meaning , mina has many faces , and will employ each one based on those around her . she thrives on the positive attention she can garner from others , and would gladly drown in it in the moment given the opportunity ; teasing , joking , flirting , she'll employ whatever means necessary to get the reactions she wants . however , once they find themselves home alone at night , she's much more cognizant of just how separate she feels from most . it's a bit of a handcrafted prison , really , pieced together by her own hands : she insists the distance exists , and so none of her interactions ever feel genuine , nor do her relationships . her doubt takes root , and , of course , everything she does from that point forward is something that she's convinced is disingenuous . the truth of the matter is that they have a good heart . they don't want to hurt people , but they want to feel worthwhile , and they convince themselves that the manipulation they might employ isn't really that bad , because their intentions are never really foul . they enjoy making people smile and laugh , they enjoy making people feel good ! but it is when they're alone that their pretty mask splinters . their horrendous habits of comparing themselves to others has hardly lessened here , not with so many new chances to do so . mina is particularly vicious when it comes to matters of the self ; it is possible that they could be considered as suffering from a form of imposter syndrome . boredom comes easily , still . she's retained her curiosity , and is always a willing , eager student , but she still hasn't found something that will hold her attention the way she assumes it's meant to be occupied . her sense of self is fractured . decisions don't come easily , and even if you ask her something as simple as what her favorite color is , she won't have a simple , set answer . her brain is constantly working overtime , which becomes overwhelming quickly , but she isn't keen to let on . which brings me to my next point : she lies , frequently . they're usually about inconsequential things , white lies made up to bolster herself in the public eye . she feels uninteresting as she is , so she makes up stories to entertain others , to deceive them into believing she's far more fascinating than she considers herself to be . again : these things aren't done out of a sense of cruelty , and she's aware that it's wrong to do so . but it's almost an impulse . usually , there's a bit of truth in each tale she spins , and it is , of course , those little pieces of honesty that she uses to assure herself afterwards that she didn't really do any harm , because it wasn't all a lie . mina enjoys her creature comforts greatly , and is happy to provide them for those she cares about , as well . her charity is unending , but she also has a habit of overextending herself . she has not learned yet that she cannot pour from her own cup if she leaves it empty . her hobbies include scrapbooking , crocheting , reading , going on nature walks and , strangely enough , archaeology . it is her newest vice . she's a terrible cook , aside from making soups , which she excels at greatly , but everything else ... well , she's got a nice collection of takeout menus for your perusal ! she likes to collect old quilts , pillows , & stuffed animals that are secondhand . while she's great at crocheting , her sewing leaves something to be desired — the projects she's undertaken to patch up & breathe new life into certainly take on the appearance of a child's approach , but she loves them all the same .

there's a lot to your question... but there's also a lot i can't answer. i don't think it's ever a good idea to act like someone you're not, when you're trying to form any kind of relationship with another person. and i can't say whether LOKI would be drawn to a particular person or not. there's no formula for that, for anyone. but awkwardness can be endearing; vulnerability and imperfection can be attractive. it all depends.

but not giving up is probably going to be a solid requirement. tom used to talk a while back about how LOKI is in no place emotionally to commit to a romantic relationship - because of all of his unaddressed trauma. he's in pain, reactive and defensive, and finds it difficult to trust; all with good reason.

anyone who wants to get close to him would have to be really patient with him. some days he might seem receptive... and then retreat and close himself off for a while. he's learned to be private with himself. he has a lot going on internally, so at first, the presence of a new person in his space wouldn't always take priority. and then he might be mistrustful of their motives and not want to allow them in for quite a while.

but i think over time he'd get to appreciate someone around who doesn't take opportunities to mock or belittle him, laugh at him or put him down. someone who genuinely admires him quietly and treats him with respect and kindness. maybe shares some of his interests... someone he can talk to, and be heard. and that might be a key to getting him to relax a little more. it's not rocket science, LOKI's not a freak. he wants what everyone generally wants... it's just that he's been emotionally neglected, so his wounds are deeper.

as far as whether i think he'd prefer a girl with high... sorry i'm not sure of your meaning here: status? or stature? i don't think that is important to him. rank doesn't seem to impress him particularly. and i mean, this is LOKI. a person he allows close to him even romantically wouldn't have to be a girl, at all. i think kindness and trustworthiness would rate far higher for him than anything superficial. and having a real friend would be more important to him than pushing for a romance early on, is my guess.

advice for my younger self

listening to that playlist i shared earlier today really got me in the mindframe of me back in my first years of college when i was barely starting to learn what it was to be an adult. and thinking about that i thought of some thing i would ike to say to that person, some bits of basic wisdom that without getting too specific or too monumental would have made a big difference. things that i know i wouldnt have figured out on my own until it was too late.

 this is not about specific mistakes i made but more general attitudes that i should have carried with me back then. most of this is going to be very particular and make sense only to me but if you are interested keep reading.

1) you dont have to complete your carrer in five years, you can take six or seven or ten years to do it, your parents would have assisted you all the same

1.a) as for studying, for christ sake dont just read the textbooks, if you are giving a big test and specifically if its a big oral lesson, write it down before hand, prepare a speech, write a monologue, practisce it, memorize it. prepare specifically what you are going to say when you are in front of the teachers, dont try to just “learn” it and hope that you’ll be able to recall it during the test

1.b) you dont have to take every single course in the semester, you can pick two or three you are really interested in, let the others by the wayside, pick them up later, use the free time to really study properly or get a simple part time job if you can, i know its sounds scary and like its a lot of responsability and like it diverges wildly from the plan you have for your life but trust me, its a lot easier than it sounds

2) dont be afraid of mental illness. is not as scary as it looks form the outside in. you are not gonna go insane, you are not going to get lost in a false world of delusion where you can never know what is real and what isnt. reality asserts itself, things calm down, it goes away. you get through it and you realize is not that bad from the other side. mental illness is a lot more common than you think, a lot more widespread than you think and a lot more manageable that you think. is not the end of the world and is not the end of your world either.

2.a) dont be afraid of the therapist, you will actually enjoy it a lot. it doesnt mean there is something terribly wrong or broken with you. its not shameful. they are smart and trained and they are glad to hear you talk. they are not going to force you into anything you dont want, they are not going to turn you into someone else, they are not going to send you to a mad house. their primary goal is that you be comfortable and at peace with yourself. go to a therapist.

3) keep your eyes open for any boardgame clubs. ask around, i know for a fact there is at least one in every city you’ve lived, maybe not yet at the time of you reading this but there will be. if you find them, join. they are the best thing that has ever happened to you.

4) if you happen to have sexual partners (and im not saying you definetly will) make sure they have a good time. ask what they want and do it for them. make sure they cum, seriously. stay with them. spend time together. cuddle in bed. they are having sex with you so the least you can do is have sex with them as well.

4.a) and by that same token, if you are in a relationship dont doubt to ask for sex too! be open about that, be forthcomming, but do be respectful. and if they say no or that they dont like to do that you should probably end the relationship, you are not going to be happy with them.

4.b) dont be afraid to try on womens clothes, you have my blessing, explore your femmenine side, try on make up. try on the fake boobies. do silly frilly pinky femmenine stuff. i know it’s just a weird fetish for you but if you have a partner be open with them about this and if they are supportive or want to help you explore this take full advantage. and dont worry, its not some dirty disgusting terrible secret that must be hidden from everyone. your friends and family are going to be ok with it if it ever comes out but dont feel is some dark secret that you must confess either, its your bussiness and for you to figure out at your own pace (also, hey, weird tip, i know it will sound absolutely nonesensical to you but did you know there are a lot of trans women who are trans without expiriencing dysphoria, just a fun fact i wanted to share with you :) )

5) dont be afraid of SJWs, they are not going to take away your games, they are not going to ruin cartoons or art or books or movies. masterpieces will still come out, well written, well drawn, well programmed and well animated masterpieces that you will love. you will be amazed at how easy is to ignore those people and how irrelevant they actually are once you stop following them on tumblr and once you stop going to twitter. 

5.a) if you think politics is stupid or cancerous now, wait until 2016, ok?

5.b) learn to apologize and own up to your mistakes. if a friend or an acquaintance is telling you that you are being an asshole online dont get defensive, just drop it and move on. dont make a huge deal out of it and dont engage in long protracted discussions online. just dont, you will embitter yourself, this is particularly salient because to this day you are having problems with this one, though not as frequently as you used to.

6) this one is more superficial i think because overall you did well on your own without advice from the future but... trust in your art. you will will amaze yourself with the things you will create. you ARE going to get a LOT better at what you do and you will learn a lot of things you never thought you would be able to master. you are going to become an amazing artist (that doesnt necesarily mean a financially succesful one or  a widely known one but you will be good at it and, trust me, that is what matters)

7) i know you’ve heard this one a million times but this one is cheating because i am from the future and i know this for a fact, you will be ok. things will work out, you will, time and again, find the way to fall on your feet, your family and friends will be there to catch you. you have a safety net, you are very lucky in that regard, dont take it for granted but it is there. you are not gonna end up homeless in the streets or raped in a dark alley or expelled on in prison or in a mental hospital, so relax and stop being so scared. you have ten very weird years ahead of you so good luck with that.

ps: you are going to meet a girl named zoe, she’s great, she’s the best. dont go live to hear apartment if you dont have a stable job and able to pay your own rent. and if you do make sure you moved out of it by february of 2020. if fact if at all possible, try not to be in cordoba by 2020. you are going to be fine as long as you are careful, you are not gonna die, i repeat YOU ARE NOT GONNA DIE. but do be extremely careful. thats it, godspeed.

a recurring fight they get into ⛈they dont rly fight fight because max dinos 3 proves swoop can only stay mad at grimlock for all of 5 whole minutes. i think they fight over grimlock getting too overprotective when they were starting out but theyve been together long enough to like. be more mature abt handling it!! 

their love languages 💞i think grimlocks highest one would be touch!! idk why im attached to affectionate touchy grim but i feel like he just likes to hold his partners….whether its straight up cuddling or just a casual hand slung over a shoulder. swoop is more of a quality time kind of guy!! i dont think they rly do gift giving often BUT theyre do a lot of nice stuff for each other instead. grimlock also rly isnt into like. verbal affection as much as swoop is. swoop is verbal abt his affection but isnt big on being complimented himself.

how they would adapt for one another 🍂swoop has to slow down a lil bit for grimlock! he’s naturally high energy which can be overwhelming for grim, so when swoop realises this he starts to make sure that grim can keep up w/ him. he also does try to take things more seriously cause i feel like hed view his whole thing w/ grim as being casual up until a certain point. grimlock on the other hand definitely tries to be more attentive to swoop. grim is naturally just. not rly receptive to people but when he decides someone is worth the effort he goes ALL IN. hes not the best listener or anything but he does try his best to be interested! even if its for little things.

their favorite celebrations 🎃dinobots collective anniversary because they all decided to just lump up their anniversaries into one nice day + slash’s birthday !!!!!!! i think swoop would also like. get jokingly into knowing different species celebration days but he doesnt rly care much for the meanings
