I ... may have gone a little over and written a little more, but I couldn't help myself. It was just so cute!

Short Version: He's curious but happy!

Long Version: Shuailu would've been about 4 years old when MC was born (if I'm doing my math right LOL!) so he'll be extremely curious! He is 2 and 3 when Pihen and Luexia were born, he barely remembers Pihen's and Luexia just appeared one day, in his mind (since Consort Dou rarely leaves her palace).

He didn't Quite understand what Consort Huo meant by a "little sibling" when she first told him. Pihen and Luexia were also his "little siblings" but he barely saw Pihen and Luexia was, for all intents and purposes, a lump on a log. He's seen her when her mom and his mom got together for tea and all she did was cry and get all stinky. He's not quite sure he wants a "little sibling".

He's super curious seeing his mother's belly start to grow and he's even more curious when he feels it kick against his hand. He's also curious as to why his father is around more. He barely saw him the last 4 years, but now he's at their palace like every week.

Of course, he's all too happy to play with the Queen Dowager when his mother was rushed back to her palace by some servants while she was on a walk with him in the gardens. He does get a little grumpy when he wanted to go play inside and she said "no". A few hours later, he's very surprised to see his father, of all people, approach him and his grandmother. He can't make out what they're saying from the sand box he's playing in, but is curious when his father picks him up and takes him back home.

When the King opens the door to Consort Huo's room, Shuailu scurries in there and goes right to the bed to see what his mother is holding. He stares down at the little face peeking out from the bundle of blankets that's apparently his "new sibling". He pokes its nose and is properly admonished by his mother and father for disturbing it, but the baby opens its eye and squints at him. He goes to poke it again when it grabs his finger and he nods vigorously when his mother asks if he wants to hold his new sibling.

He doesn't really "hold it" since he's 4, but the idea is still there as he looks down at the now squirming bundles of blankets who looks like it's about to cry and he decides to talk to it. Miraculously, unlike with Luexia who just kept crying, this baby actually stops and stares at him.

He introduces himself and doesn't understand why his mother and father are laughing. He was always taught to introduce himself to a new person and this is a new person. A very new person! He's surprised when the baby grabs his hand again and decides to fall back asleep while he's "holding" it.

He refuses to hand it back to his mother when she offers to take it back. She later jokes to his father that that's "his baby" now, whatever that means!

Putting it under the cut!

Consort Huo Qinwen: Consort Huo doesn't really care about who you decide to court, as long as you're happy! That said, she does have a slight preference for Si Huaiqiao or Xu Chanyu. First, she loves a good Servant/Liege romance (literally how she got together with your father), but also because they've been with you for a while and she thinks they know you the best.

Second Prince Nan Shuailu: Shuailu doesn't mind who you romance, but he would definitely prefer Si Huaiqiao. As mentioned in the post about Zhi Qianxie (Shuailu's personal guard), Shuailu arranged for Huaiqiao to be assigned to you. If you two ended up together, he'd be extremely pleased about it. (He's also living vicariously through you two since he's too scared to ask his own guard out LMAO)

7th/8th Princess Nan Liangxu: Liangxu, like the others, doesn't mind/care who you romance. She's a bit young to understand the political implications of marriages and relationships, so she can't really have a true meaningful and impactful opinion. But, if she had to pick, it'd be Wu Nahou. She remembers seeing her perform at different social events/festivals and she think's she's cool and pretty!

10th/11th Prince Nan Qiongkuai: Right, so Qiongkuai is a Literal Toddler at 2 years old. He has no real idea what's happening and really doesn't have an impactful opinion on this. That said, his favorite ROs are Wei Duqiong, You Kounao, and Xu Chanyu. He likes Wei Duqiong since he gets gifts from him every time he visits, he likes You Kounao since he plays with him and can match his energy, and he likes Xu Chanyu since he sees her around a lot and she also sneaks him candy!

Dowager Queen Nan Niexing: Dowager Queen Nan Niexing also doesn't really care, as long as you're happy. That being said, she would prefer you to marry someone "of your station" so that would mean either You Kounao or Shen Sandong! She also wouldn't mind Si Huaiqiao since he's been with you/the palace for over 10 years now. But if you don't romance any of those, she won't make a fuss. She's just thinking about how to best protect you from court enemies.

You said I think that there would be preset reasons as to why MC isn't coveting the crown. So if we do end up getting rid of the stepmother from hell. Would her favorite even want the crown? Or was it simply because of the pressure they were receiving from her.

And is there a chance for MC to gain the crown? I can't remember your exact answer on this ask before but especially for an MC whose only reasoning for not even wanting to be power hungry was simply because they felt like there was someone more qualified/ they liked the way they lived before.

All of this is subject to spoilers most likely so feel free to tell me to fuck off and I will go back to fluffy asks. 😅😇

Jokes aside, I'd be happy to answer any questions!

So, Consort Xing's oldest son, Pihen, is the one she wants to inherit the throne. Doing so would make her Dowager Queen which equals more power. The current issue is that Crown Prince Lunsu, the Queen's son, and Second Prince Shuailu, MC's older brother, are currently In The Way. Pihen is the Third Prince, so he's third in line to inherit the throne. Scattered between Lunsu, Shuailu, and Pihen are their sisters: Kutuo, Dapang, and Luexia. They're not in the way, but are a nuisance to her.

Pihen doesn't even want the throne. If it did come to him, somehow, he'd pass it off to whoever's Fourth Prince, whether that's MC or Duanzu. He'd actually want to place Kutuo as Queen over Duanzu, but court politics dictate you go through the male children in line and then the female children.

Historically, most female children were married off to other kingdoms before the next ruler was crowned, hence why its male children first and not simply birth order. They also didn't want to deal with a succession issue. Nowadays, it varies from person to person. Kutuo is currently single while Dapang and Luexia aren't, even though Kutuo is older than them. The King would change the rule, but a precedent was already set for him, who inherited over his older sisters, since he was the eldest son, and he doesn't want to cause issues this far into his reign. Anyway.

As for taking the throne... probably not. I don't plan on any of MC's older siblings to die, which would prompt the line of succession to start moving. As long as Crown Prince Lunsu AND MC's brother, Shuailu, alive, MC won't sit on the throne.

Hello! Don't worry about the names! I barely remember them too LMAO!

As for messing with your other siblings, maybe. It depends since all the siblings older than Shuailu tend to be really busy. That being said, I do want to include MC meeting with all of their siblings (either separately or in a small group of 2-3) at some point in the story! I think it's definitely possible to mess with Lunsu, especially during the social event where he's Supposed To Find A Fiancée but is instead just being a wallflower.

Shuailu's personal guard is actually a lil' lady! Her name is Zhi Qianxie and she's about 27, so a little older than him! She's also only an inch taller than your maid, Xu Chanyu, who's 5'0, so little lady is literal, LMAO! He's had a crush on her for a While, ever since she saved him from a would-be assassin (thanks Consort Xing).

So, traditionally, the Xiatian Kingdom likes to have the personal guards match the gender of the royal person they're guarding so they can be with them Literally All The Time. It's just a bonus to keep them around the same age. A lot of the time, if the royal has any milk siblings, their milk siblings tend to become their personal guards. They want to make sure the personal guards are close to their charge. This is the case with most of MC's siblings.

But since Shuailu was picky and stubborn and wouldn't nurse on anyone but his mom, he has no milk siblings! This meant the Head of Guard and Security had to do a deep vetting process to find a guard for Shuailu. Around this time, they also remembered that you/MC would need a personal guard soon and you were just like your brother so you don't have milk siblings, either. And on top of both of you, your older sister, First Princess Kutuo, had just lost her personal guard since she retired after sustaining a training injury. So, the head of the guards did a wide search for all three of you.

Their search ended up with 3 different candidates:

Si Huaiqiao, aged 12, who was meant to go to your brother

Zhi Qianxie, aged 14, who was meant to go to First Princess Kutuo

Yang Yihou, aged 11, who was meant to go to you

Shuailu found out that Zhi Qianxie was picked and pulled some strings to move the assignments around, giving you Huaiqiao and Kutuo getting Yihou, so he could have Qianxie.

The rest is history, so to speak, Huaiqiao has been your dutiful personal guard for years now and Shuailu got to make a fool of himself in front of Qianxie for 13 years.

If you do go down Huaiqiao's route and make him your fiancé in the end, Shuailu will try to take all of the credit for getting you two together, although notably during that route, he and Qianxie will not gotten together yet, which you can tease him about.

Yes! Nahou does have foreign heritage and she's definitely better than Consort Xing LMAO! The other ROs who have foreign heritage are Kounao and Duqiong!

Consort Huo, and by extension Shuailu, MC, Liangxu, and Qiongkuai, can also have foreign heritage depending on what you decide your MC looks like!

Which is rather funny to think about if Consort Huo and Consort Xing both had foreign heritage, the King struck gold with one and an absolute terror with the other LMAO!

I addressed this briefly in the Side Characters page, but I'd be glad to expand on it!

As for being able to pick how MC feels towards their mother, I'm debating whether or not to include it. It wouldn't really amount to much since she'd treat you the same, even if you didn't like her, so if I do include it, it'd be for flavor text only and not make much of a difference!

Consort Huo Qinwen's relationship with her children is all positive. As mentioned in the Side Characters page, she dotes on her children quite a bit, more than what's expected of a consort, anyways. She doesn't really have favorites among her children, but she does recognize that the younger ones need more attention than the older ones.

Nan Shuailu

Consort Huo's relationship with her first child and eldest son is as good as it can be. Second Prince Nan Shuailu is kept very busy as the heir's heir, meaning he doesn't see his mother too much anymore. He's also 25 years old, so he doesn't need his mother to baby him. That said, Consort Huo will still baby him. It doesn't really matter if he's 5 or 25, he's still her baby. In return, he actively works the court and its officials in her favor, which pisses Consort Xing off quite a bit.

Consort Huo also caused quite a bit of a fuss when Shuailu was born, since she refused to hand him to a wet nurse at first, which was customary for consorts. She was eventually convinced to hand him to a wet nurse, but it ended up working in her favor in the end since he refused to nurse from anyone but her.

Consort Huo's relationship with her second child is also good. MC still stays with their mother in her palace at the start of the story, so they see her quite a bit. She tries to arrange 1-on-1 time with them, knowing that most of her attention goes to the younger children than her older ones. She's supportive of everything MC decides to do and actively tries to show interest, even if it's out of her wheelhouse.

Nan Liangxu

Consort Huo's relationship with her third child is great. Seventh/Eighth Princess Nan Liangxu is only 8 years old, so she still requires her mother's attention. She enjoys doting on her daughter, buying her various dolls and stuffed toys for her never-ending collection as well as helping her get ready in the morning. Liangxu adores her mother in turn, often picking weeds flowers for her, since she's too young to do much. When she has time, Consort Huo also enjoys playing with her daughter.

Nan Qiongkuai

Consort Huo's relationship with her fourth child is also great. Tenth/Eleventh Prince Nan Qiongkuai is 2 years old, so he takes up much of her time. He's a very energetic and happy toddler, wanting to be carried quite a bit. He's still learning basics like numbers and colors, which she helps with when available. He spends most of his time around her with his nannies. He is also currently being weened off of milk, much to his displeasure. He still doesn't like being too far from her either, throwing tantrums when she has things to do that don't involve him. Like with Liangxu, Consort Huo will also play with him when she has the time.

Second Prince Nan Shuailu is MC's older brother. He is 25 years old and the fourth born among ... twenty-two children. As Second Prince, he's very busy with tutors, learning law, and court politics. He is currently second-in-line for the throne, making him an easy target for Consort Xing. Despite her clearly targeting him, Shuailu actually gets along fantastically with the Consort Xing's son, the Third Prince.

He is a good older brother and son, despite his duties taking him away from his siblings and mother more often than not. He excels in both combat and law. MC's Personal Guard, Si Huaiqiao, was actually assigned to Shuailu first before Shuailu sent him to them.

Zhuanying to Guangtian - LINK

Crown Prince Nan Lunsu - Lunsu is Queen He's first child and the oldest of 22. He considers MC to be one of his favorite siblings, although he finds it hard to be close to his siblings when he's so busy. He rarely gets the chance to stop by and talk to them.

First Princess Nan Kutuo - Kutuo is Consort Xing's first child. She considers MC to be one of her favorite siblings, which... kind of isn't saying much since she doesn't really talk to many of her siblings a ton, anyways.

Second Princess Nan Dapang - Consort Re's first child. Dapang likes MC. She doesn't spend much time around them since they usually run in different social circles, but she likes them enough. It helps that she's close to Shuailu and that Consort Huo and Consort Re are friends.

Third Prince Nan Pihen - Consort Xing's second child and her golden child. Pihen likes MC, despite his mother's wishes to not interact with his half-siblings. He doesn't talk to them much, usually busy with other things, but he does like them.

Third Princess Nan Luexia - Luexia is Consort Dou's first child. Luexia also likes MC. She's more acquainted with MC than actually knowing them. She's usually busy, like all of the older siblings are, which leaves little time to bond with siblings.

Fourth/Fifth Princess Nan Zhouwa - Zhouwa is Consort Re's second child. She considers MC to be one of her favorite siblings. MC and her tend to go to social events together with Gaotang, so she's probably one of the closer siblings, other than MC's full siblings.

Fifth/Sixth Princess Nan Gaotang - Gaotang is Consort Dou's second child. She also considers MC to be one of her favorite siblings. She, Zhouwa, and MC tend to go to social events together. She's less close to MC than Zhouwa is, but she's still close.

Fourth/Fifth Prince Nan Duanzu - Duanzu is Consort Xing's third child. He is neutral, more or less, towards MC. For a while, his mother didn't really let him interact with his half-siblings, so he never really got to know them until a few years ago.

Fifth/Sixth Prince Nan Casao - Casao is Queen He's second child. He considers MC to be one of his favorite siblings. He appreciates how they don't nag at him for disappearing off into the forest for hours.

Sixth/Seventh Prince Nan Kenlu - Kenlu is Consort Re's third child. He likes MC, despite not being super well acquainted with them. He is usually busy with his studies in Magic Aptitude, so he doesn't see them much.

1. Are the princes and princesses allowed to have pets? If so then do they have any? How much are there and what are their names? And secondly if they aren't allowed, have they tried to keep any pets a secret from their siblings/mothers/maids and other workers?

2. Do the ROs have any embarrassing secrets/moments that they would like to keep hidden from MC forever?

3. Does the MC learn how to fight at some point (learn how to use a sword or any other weapon, or maybe learn magic?) and/or learn how to ride a horse for a little cdrama moment?

Anyway, I love all the questions! Since there's a lot, I put them below the cut!

1. Yes! Pets are allowed in the palace. It usually depends on the current ruler, but pets are allowed! As for current pets, I don't have a full list written down, so here are ones I know off the top of my head:

Consort Re has a really old and grumpy cat. It likes to bite and scratch everyone that's not Consort Re or her children.

Lunsu has a hunting dog named Wonton. He's very spoiled and fat so... not really a hunting dog anymore!

Dapang has a horse named Midnight and a snake named named Pearl

Luexia has a big fluffy cat named Mooncake

MC has a pet. You can choose between a dog, cat, bird, or snake.

Casao has a few birds! (and a tiger at one point)

Kenlu has ants (like the bug)

The others younger than Kenlu are too young to own their "own" pets, so they share with their siblings.

Consort Xing won't let animals in her palace. So none of her children have any. Duanzu has tried to sneak several animals in, but he's always caught.

2. Probably!

3. MC kind of already knows how to fight and ride a horse. They aren't very good, but it's basic lessons all princes and princesses undergo since the Consort Wars. But there will be a CDrama moment!

4. I really want to talk about the magic system, but I'll hold off and just answer your question.

All of them can do magic. Everyone in Nian can do magic. But some people have more Magic Aptitude than others.

In the case of the Nan family, those are: Kutuo, Shuailu, Luexia, Kenlu, and, recently, Quanying.

In Nian, Magic Aptitude tests are given yearly to all children who are 5 by a specific date. The tests measures various different aspects of the a person's magic and then categorizes them. If you want to know more, just send another ask!

That said, the ones with more Magic Aptitude, are actually less likely to have a little oopsie! But all of them (besides the ones with Magic Aptitude) have done an oopsie! Some may have nearly burnt the palace down, not naming names 👁, while others are less disastrous.

You'd be mostly right in that assumption! The younger 3 don't really know better, but the older 3 find her ... actions to be annoying or simply just don't like her.

Kutuo: Kutuo does Not like her mother one bit. They'd probably have a better relationship if Consort Xing didn't constantly ignore her/brush her off while she was growing up in favor of her younger brother, Pihen. That said, Kutuo also isn't very close to any of her siblings, half or full, either. She doesn't consider herself superior than them, but she also doesn't go out of her way to interact with them.

Pihen: Pihen has a ... complicated relationship with his mother. On one hand, she's pretty overbearing with the whole "you will be the heir" thing. He's also said several times before he doesn't want to be anywhere near the throne. Pihen is also shier than his siblings, so he doesn't really speak out against her, just quietly sits there. He does also still care for her, she is his mother, even if she sucks. He doesn't view himself as better than his siblings, though. His closest friend is actually MC's older brother, Second Prince Nan Shuailu, much to his mother's disgust.

Duanzu: Duanzu thinks his mother is an idiot and doesn't care what she says; he's not listening. He, 5th/6th Prince Nan Casao, and 6th/7th Prince Nan Kenlu share most of the same tutors, being so close in age. They all hang out together too, making a trio of teen boys that enjoy terrorizing the palace. While Duanzu doesn't think he's better than his siblings, he does think he's better than most people. So, he's still trying to shake off his mother's lingering aftereffects.

Zhuanying: Zhuanying is just on the cusp of being able to think critically for herself. She is always annoyed that her mother makes her stay in their palace and play by herself or with her nannies, even though she can see Liangxu, Tuojiu, Genbi, and Zhuibi all playing together outside. She doesn't quite get when her mother says that she's "above" them, either. Give her like 3-5 years, and she'll be in a similar spot to Kutuo regarding her mother.

Zuoya: Zuoya is 4 years old, so he doesn't really know better/different. He does get lonely, only playing with his nannies or Zhuanying or Tangye, on the off chance, so he could definitely benefit from some socialization. He's not learning very well either. His nannies aren't very good at trying to teach him the basics, but Luexia won't come help unless Consort Xing apologizes to her (Luexia's) mother (Consort Dou) for what she (Consort Xing) did, which she wouldn't do even if the world was ending.

Tangye: Tangye is 1. Her only concern is who's going to change her diaper and when she gets milk. And right now, Consort Xing and her milk-nurse are the only people with milk and her maids/nannies change her diaper. LMAO
