the fairytale she never had (will you believe again?)
when sol is invited to a wedding, sol doesn’t think her best friend would follow her.
aka: solhwi attending a wedding
notes: it just struck me one day, and i really wanted them to see each other outside of the law school moments! while law school defines them, they are certainly people with social activities.
i adapted this from a similar prompt i saw from a fic many years ago for a separate fandom, and i always wanted to write something similar. this was honestly not met to be multi-part, but i write too much anyways. so multi-part it will be.
also, it might sound depressing in the initial part where sol is talking about the wedding invitation, but it gets explained later on.
as always, enjoy! any grammar mistakes and all will be taken fully responsible by me!

I: 我愿变成童话里, 你爱的那个天使 (i am willing to be the angel of that fairytale you love)
--title inspired by fairytale (童话) by Michael Wong!--
Sol absolutely hates weddings.
She hated the big social crowds, the way drunk men in tuxedos staggered around with women in one arm and a drink in another. She found no purpose in dressing in lavish gowns, then eating dinner for the next two hours without even feeling full.
Sol couldn’t blame anyone but herself for this. She can’t help but remember her mother’s failed marriages. The way her biological father left them in the middle of the night, with all their hard earned savings. The way her stepfather, Byeol’s father, would come home drunk and violent towards her mother. It was a memory she couldn’t erase. More than a decade later, she still wakes up in a cold sweat, worrying for her mother and small Byeol’s life.
She long ago gave up on the concept of love back then. She wasn’t opposed to anyone dating or talking about it, and she certainly didn’t mind short flings. But marriage? Eternal love? The fairytale that everyone hopes to achieve? Sol threw those ideas out of the window.
So when Sol received a thick, cream-coloured card and envelope, embossed with rose gold foil and flowers, a pretty silver wax seal and her name written in careful strokes of a calligraphy brush, she was stumped.
Her friend, Im Jiyoon, was getting married. Jiyoon was a good friend of Sol’s, and they occasionally met up for quick meals. Jiyoon was an accountant and climbing the ranks in her company. They lost contact for a period when Sol was in juvie, but they reconnected when Sol was just starting law school. It was only polite that Jiyoon extended invitations to her high school classmate.
Sol had mixed feelings. The wedding was on a Friday night, which made things good since she didn’t have to wake up early, fitting her schedule properly. But she had nothing to wear. She could borrow a dress and shoes from Yeseul, but the last time she borrowed a shoe from Yeseul, she almost broke her ankle. And she had so much work to catch up on. Yet, not showing up felt rude of her.
Jiyoon was nice, don’t get her wrong. She was smart, resourceful and lovely to be with in high school. Sol wanted nothing more than for her high school friend to marry the love of her life. But she hasn't been to such social events in years, and being so focussed on school, the legal clinic and contributing to her family, she found it difficult to understand why she needed to go, besides doing it out of courtesy.
“What’s that?” A familiar voice pipes from behind, drawing her out of her thoughts. There’s the familiar shuffling of several pairs of feet as Sol turns her attention to the one who spoke. Behind her, was Han Joon Hwi with his bag just being set on the table. The rest of the group was just settling in for another study session.
“Ah, nothing important.” She monotonously says before sliding the card in her files. Joon Hwi’s hands catch the card before she can slide it fully and stop her from hiding it from him, or the rest of the group. The rest draw their attention to the expensive card and Sol only stays silent.
“A wedding? Your friend’s?” Yeseul asks as she picks the card up with perfectly manicured fingers. Turning and feeling the thick paper between her fingers, Yeseul knew it was no cheap manufactured paper. This was expensive, premium, and each card looked handmade from the brush calligraphy.
“Yeah. But I don’t think I’m going.” Sol says as Yeseul returns her the card and successfully stores it away in her bag.
“Why not? Don’t you want to be there?” Joon Hwi asks, cocking his head to the side in utter confusion.
“There isn’t much point, is there? I have school and the legal clinic and things to revise for. And besides, I don't have anything to attend in. I just rather send her a gift and treat her a meal.” Sol simply explains. Everyone bombards her with more questions, but she diverts their attention to her paper and the cases they are reviewing today.
Joon Hwi, however, couldn’t get Sol’s reasoning out of his head. He knew Sol well enough to know how much she values her friends, and that she would be willing to drop everything for a friend. Her loyalty was unmatched. It didn’t make sense that she would be held back by her vanity or school work that caused her to not attend such a joyous occasion.
When everyone is done reviewing the cases and the session ends, Sol is the only one who has her books and papers still scattered all over the table. She still has to review her notes and catch up on a few lectures before she can officially end her day. Joon Hwi was long done, but he stayed put, bringing out a past report he’s done and glancing through it, hopeful to catch any mistakes. The others have headed back or gone to the cafeteria for a meal.
“Han Joon Hwi, you don’t have to stay for me, you know?” Sol says, her eyes not once looking up as she stays concentrated highlighting her book with a fluorescent orange highlight. She sticks it in her hair when she’s done, raising her head to meet Joon Hwi’s eyes. Joon Hwi only smiles, letting his eyes crinkle.
“Why don’t you want to attend the wedding?” Joon Hwi asks, still smiling. Sol scoffs.
“I already said. I’m too busy-” Sol is cut off by Joon Hwi with his teasing.
“You sure? I think it’s about the groom, though.” Joon Hwi smiles brightly, earning an irritated series of clicks of her tongue from Sol, clearly successful in being teased.
“None of that sort! Who do you think I am, Han Joon Hwi?” Sol rebuts back, throwing her eraser across to him in annoyance.
Joon Hwi catches it with a laugh, but doesn’t lose eye contact with Sol. A few moments of silence follow, as she looks at the file with the card. Slowly, she draws the card from her file, holding it carefully between her fingers.
“It’s not that I don’t want to be there. I… it’s my first time going to such a social event in such a long time. And the last time I met Jiyoon was a year ago, back in our 1L.” She says softly, letting her fingers brush her calligraphed name.
“I just… rather not go, you know? Treat her to a nice meal somewhere, maybe a couple drinks. Besides, I’m sure she’s just doing it out of courtesy.” She lets out a light laugh.
Joon Hwi’s heart softens. He’s witnessed Sol in her different elements. The courtroom, where she’s a powerful woman in command, dressed professionally in a suit and hair in a perfect ponytail. The day-to-day her, where she’s comfortably dressed in jeans and her tanned coat, hair in a bun and post it notes on her jacket. She was always so bold, so confident and so full of fire. It never occurred to him that she would be uncomfortable in social events. She was always the life during dinners, with Bokgi. She laughed loudly, engaged in conversations and seemed so comfortable. He remembers how she would help out the old halmeonis with her neighbourhood on some days when he sent her home, or the times she bought ice creams for Byeol’s classmates. She seemed so extroverted, yet so closed off. Eying her, Joon Hwi reaches out and clasps his hand over hers in an attempt to comfort.
“I never went to school events, you know? Especially since juvie made me miss it. When I redid my high school year, I didn’t go too. There wasn’t much of a point, since I didn’t have a date or many friends to begin with. If it was Dan, she would have gone, being the popular girl she was back then.” Sol softly says, a small smile ghosting her face.
She remembers the day prom arrived for her school. She was expectant, hoping that the boy she liked would invite her. Or maybe the girls that she occasionally had lunch with will invite her to hang out. But all she got was a stone cold silence the weeks leading up to prom. When everyone buzzed on what they were wearing to prom night, she silently put on her headphones, drilling herself into her science assignments. Of course, she wouldn’t be invited.
She knew the rumours floating in school. How Dan was the perfect one, how she was the failed one. She knew everyone knew she went to juvie. She knows how the boys snicker at her when she walks past them, or how the girls gossip and whisper when she’s eating her lunch. Besides, it didn't help that she was poor. She can’t even afford a dress of her own, let alone go to the event.
Realising what she’s said, Sol quickly draws her hand away along with the card and slots it away in her file.
“I’m sorry! I didn’t mean to blabber on. You must think it’s stupid, I think so too. Anyways, do you have the notes Professor Kim...” Sol quickly apologises and diverts her attention to her notes. But Joon Hwi was no longer listening. He was shattered by how the woman sitting in front of him has never been treated like how she should be treated. It was no secret to Joon Hwi that he cared for his friends, but cared a little more for Sol. He was the one that left post-it notes on her table and pretended he didn't. She was the only one that he would let steal a mouth or two from his ramyeon. He could read her moods just from her eyes. He wonders sometimes, if he sees her more than a friend.
He won’t hide that she’s beautiful. The way her eyes slant in an elegant fashion, her smooth, slightly tanned skin, and her winning smile that he always found his heart beating faster for. He loves the way she smiles at her extra pickles, the way her eyes light up when she sees Byeol, or the way she argues and practices. The tenacity and desire she has to improve inspires him to work as hard as her.
This is why when Sol spilled the beans, he couldn't help but feel all sorts of emotions. Anger, towards the people in her school, for not realising such a wonderful student. Anger towards her for degrading herself. Sadness, for her not being able to experience such events.
As Joon Hwi ended the session with her and returned to his room, he made a promise to Sol. He’s convinced it will work, and he begins planning in his head.
He will show her the fairytale.
-----
A week passed.
Sol had to give a reply in a few days and she has not figured out what to say. The wedding was in a month. She knew Jiyoon would be busy... Sol figures that she should just treat Jiyoon after her honeymoon, knowing how she would be away with her husband as newlyweds later on.
“Still thinking about the wedding?” Joon Hwi nods at her, her head in her hands. Sol, looking defeated, nods. So much for trying to hide. They were at their pantry area of their dorms, Sol stirring her ramyeon, as Joon Hwi slurps his. It was 3am, and they just finished studying. The next day was a weekend, so it didn’t really matter if they slept late, since they got the privilege of sleeping in.
“What do I tell Jiyoon? I don’t want to sound rude.” Sol mumbles, lazily stirring her soggy noodles.
“Go to the wedding.” Joon Hwi says suddenly, continuously slurping.
“What?!”
“Sol, how many weddings can you even go to in your life? Are you sure you want to miss this one? Besides, you said you haven’t been to social events. Don’t you want to experience it?” Joon Hwi says, adrenaline building in his voice.
Sol falls silent. She can’t deny that she wants to experience the feeling of being dolled up, the fun that everyone talks about, and the enjoyment that everyone goes through. And Joon Hwi is right; she wants to celebrate with Jiyoon. But her fear of social events and the past was holding her back.
Joon Hwi could tell the change in her eyes. He gives a sweet smile, knowing that he said enough to change her mind.
“Joon Hwi, but what if she doesn’t even-” Sol begins doubting herself as she shoots off her doubts and worries. Joon Hwi calms her down with logical reasons, calming her nerves in between his mouths of ramyeon.
“But... I’ll be alone there, right?” Sol asks, her voice so soft, Joon Hwi barely picks it up. Her ramyeon is still untouched, and the noodles have gotten soggy and cold. Sol is silent for a moment, as she realises how right she is, for once. It wasn’t like she could ask a date, she doesn’t even have one. And her friends from the study group were out of the question. They don’t even know Jiyoon. Joon Hwi quickly brings up his bowl to his face, hopefully covering it as he feels the heat rising to his face.
“I’ll be your plus-one.”
Sol’s eyes light up and her head rises. Did she hear that right? Han Joon Hwi, her plus-one?
“Oh, no! No, I didn’t mean it like that! Joon Hwi, no, I can’t-” Sol can’t find the right words to say. He can't? He shouldn’t? He doesn't need to? Sol can’t deduce her own reasonings for this argument. She knows her roommate likes him, and she definitely doesn’t want to be the target of her roommate’s stares if she catches wind of this. Besides, Joon Hwi doesn’t like her. She knows, and she doesn’t want him to get any wrong ideas. He’s her best friend, and confidante. She knows, deep down, his heart is someone else's.
“I want to.”
Sol freezes as Joon Hwi finishes drinking his soup. Placing the bowl down, he does as best as he can to lock eyes with Sol seriously, showing her he wasn’t teasing. No, this was out of his sincere heart. He knows how nervous she gets in a new environment, and him being next to her was bound to calm her nerves just a little more.
Sol could see the genuine care and want in his eyes. She knows this isn’t one of his jokes or teases. For a split second, she catches herself thinking if he meant something more. That going as a date, was more than just keeping her company, but for something to develop…
Her face is flushed red as she looks at her puffed noodles and lukewarm soup. She picks her chopsticks up but is stopped by Joon Hwi’s hand as he shifts the bowl toward him, away from her.
“Get yourself a fresh one. This is the first meal all day, isn’t it?” Joon Hwi calls her out, covering her noodles. Sol wants to argue for her soggy noodles, but she falls silent knowing how he revealed her secret. She hasn’t eaten all day after running reports and studying. Grumbling, she does as instructed and boils another bowl of ramyeon. When she’s back at the table with a fresh, hot, spicy and red bowl, she dives into it, wondering how she managed to survive the whole day.
Joon Hwi only gives a small smile looking at the girl slurping her noodles with delight and looking at her. Joon Hwi wasn’t lying. He did want to be her plus-one for the wedding. He knew that more than just being a comfort for Sol, he wanted to make this one day a day she could look back and smile at. That she could be pretty, relaxed and happy instead of stressing over her grades, exams and family.
“Fine.” Sol says as she continues slurping the spicy noodles. She blesses the spiciness of the noodles, such that she could blame her pink blush on it. Joon Hwi, clearing the cold noodles and getting water for both of them tilts his head in confusion.
“Come with me to the wedding, if you want to.” She mutters softly, almost shy to let him know. To hide her blush and hide her confusion, she lifts the still hot bowl to her face. She drinks the soup, but chokes on the spiciness. Joon Hwi lets out a light chuckle before passing her a bottle of cold water. Sol looks at him with narrowed eyes of annoyance, but graciously takes the water.
As he watches Sol eat her first bowl, then a second, as Joon Hwi munches on some crackers, he only smiles and laughs at whatever Sol was complaining about her reports and her frustrations at her cases that she picked. He lets out comforting words, but is rebutted back with Sol saying he will never get it because he’s smart unlike her.
As he went to bed that night, he only gave a giddy smile, burying his face in his sheets. He scored his point of taking Sol out on a date, and was already counting down. He officially succeeded in the first step of his plan.
The rest of it required a little bit of help. But he knew who to ask.
-----
“Yeseul! What is it that you need to wake me up on a weekend? I was up until 4am last night!” Sol grumbles as she places her phone on speaker, rubbing her eyes. It was 8am, way too early for Sol to process any emergencies. Well, if it was Yeseul, she would do it any time.
“Sorry, unnie. But it’s urgent. Could you meet me in 10 minutes at the lobby?” Yeseul’s bright voice echos. Sol notices her roomie’s bed made, pillows nicely fluffed and sheets tucked in neatly in pure perfection. She isn’t surprised, considering how she gets up early anyways.
“Fine.” Sol says and hangs up, getting a fresh change of clothes and heading to the bathroom to wash up. She throws on a hoodie, grabbing her only tanned ochre coat and grabs her bag, before jogging downstairs to the lobby. There, Yeseul is standing there, with a sling black bag and with one of the many nude heels she has, hair styled to perfection.
“Unnie!” Yeseul waves her hand over. Walking closer, Sol notices two other familiar friends behind as she scoffs.
“Joonhwi? Bokgi? What are you doing here?” She asks, her hand playing with the strap of her bag unconsciously. She was surprised to see Joonhwi, but even more Bokgi, who usually spends mornings sleeping in. Joonhwi only gives his usual cheeky smile and drags a drowsy Bokgi with him out towards to the main entrance of the school. Dumbfounded, Yeseul takes this moment to link her arm with Sol’s as she leads her out and catch Sol up to their agenda today.
“What?! You’re bringing me where?” Sol exclaims, her voice echoing throughout the lobby. Yeseul shushes her as she drags a shocked Sol out of school. Yeseul didn't need the whole school to know where Sol was going.
“Unnie, please? You need a dress for the wedding, and don’t think you are going to go in one of mine or your old ones! Besides, you promised to go shopping with me one day, right?” Yeseul defends herself as Sol sighs.
Yeseul wasn’t wrong. The wedding was just a week away and she had absolutely nothing to wear. She owned a couple pairs of flats, but they were so old, it would be embarrassing to attend with those. And her dresses were either too big or too small. She was so caught up with school after submitting her reply to Jiyoon, that she would have forgotten about the wedding if it wasn’t for the post-it on her bedside wall.
“But...but...” Sol couldn’t find any reasons to counter. She knew Yeseul was right. Besides, it’s a weekend. And they had no upcoming tests or projects, so there was no harm in doing something besides studying in the copy room. She nods, defeated, earning a smile from Yeseul.
“Wait, then why is Joonhwi and- Who’s car is that?!” Sol’s thoughts are cut off when she sees a familiar black sedan waiting by the entrance as Sol and Yeseul just exit. In the car, she manages to see a Joonhwi in the driver’s seat and Bokgi riding shotgun.
“Yah! Han Joon Hwi! Isn’t this my roomie’s car?” She shouts as she strides a couple of steps when Joonhwi rolls the window down.
“She loaned me the car for today. Don’t want you carrying so many things back from shopping today.” He replies curtly. Bokgi opens his passenger side door on the right.
“Bokgi-”
“Noona, sit in front. I’m too tired to watch Joonhwi-hyung drive.” Bokgi mutters before he climbs into the backseat with Yeseul. Sol wordlessly settles into the seat next to Joonhwi, who only looks at her with a smile. Sol catches his odd looks and pauses.
“What?”
“Ready for shopping?” He has his cheeky smile on again. Sol glares in annoyance before turning behind to Yeseul.
“Did you make him drive?” Yeseul shakes her head and spills out her defensive explanation.
“Oppa called me up yesterday! He just said he needed my help to accompany you shopping for a dress!”
“Then, why is Bokgi here? Trying on dresses too?”
“Noona! I’m listening!” Joonhwi only laughs and shakes his head.
“He’s just accompanying me.” Joonhwi says as he begins to drive off.
Well, Joonhwi wasn't lying. He waited till their quizzes and projects were over before executing this. He knew Sol was busy, and had waited for the busy season to pass before calling Yeseul. He explained that he knew Sol would not go shop for a dress, and he needs her help to accompany him and her. She willingly, too willingly, agreed.
Next, he asked Sol B if he could borrow her car, knowing how Sol was not going to go home with just one dress and one pair of shoes when Yeseul was involved. Sol B was skeptical, but just passed the keys over to him. Besides, she was going to be in school studying all day; she didn’t need the car. Bokgi joined in, as Joonhwi couldn’t spend hours on end waiting for the ladies to shop. On further thought, Bokgi just might help him out with something.
“I could go myself with Yeseul. You didn’t have to wake up for this.” Sol mutters just loud enough for him to hear, fiddling with her fingers. Joonhwi returns with a light scoff.
“As if you’ll do it.” Sol glares at him from the side and is ready to punch him, but retracts her hand, knowing she might literally kill everyone in the car. The ride from the school to the bustling heart of Seoul is a rough twenty minute ride. Bokgi takes this time to catch a wink and Sol does the same, but she can't seem to do it.
Something about Joonhwi bringing her out to buy a dress specially made her heart flutter a bit more than usual. She knew that Joonhwi cared for her. The ways that he left rolls of gimbaps and energy drinks as opposed to coffee on her table during her tough days. The moments when he would offer his jacket as a pillow wordlessly when she wanted to rest her head after hours of studying. The unspoken synchronisation between them was just a showing of how they understood each other inside and out.
Sol thought nothing of it. She knew him as long as she stepped into school when he saved her from Professor Yang. They spent almost everyday studying, having classes and eating together. After all, they are best friends, and don’t best friends do this? They look out for each other, right?
He is going to be my plus-one at Jiyoon’s wedding. He’s taking me to shop for a dress.
Sol wonders, truly for the car ride as she stares outside at the blue skies and empty streets of Seoul, if Han Joonhwi meant more than friends to her. If… she wanted more.
Deep down, she couldn’t deny hoping for more. She liked the way he looked at her, eyes crinkled and smiling in half moons, the sweet smile that she couldn’t help but return. She has never had many relationships, considering her experience in school and afterwards. She was just too busy; too focussed. Seeing how this man cared for her just made her feel so… special.
She has never felt that way.

Quisiera: Growing Pains (2)
Javier Peña / F!Reader; Post Narcos
Masterlist || Series List || Taglist Form || PREVIOUS || NEXT
1.9K words
Summary: You have a lot on your mind. You never expected Javi to be one of them. But that's nothing a good soak can't fix, right?
Warnings: mention of loss of parent & degenerative diseases, minor depictions of sexual thoughts, minor profanity
A/N: because I'm a major dork, and no one asked, I created the floor plan for the reader's house and my friend @followwhereshegoes designed it in Sims for me. The photos are at the end of the chapter. I hope you enjoy and let me know what you think!
Tumblr media
Your hair blew in the wind as you drove your work-beaten Ford F-250 home. Papers from a long day of checking up on animals and livestock fluttered beneath your now empty thermos for coffee. Your head bobbed with the familiar bumps and turns of the road as you drove home. The ride wasn’t unlike it had been any other day, but as you pulled into your driveway and peaked to the left and you knew he would be there. You had known for a few weeks now that Javi had been back. On a courtesy visit for Don Jesús -- Javi’s dad -- he had mentioned his son might be returning to Texas soon. That had to have been roughly two, maybe three months ago?
You never thought you would see him again. The kid who always thought he knew best. The one who was so sure of himself and that the world was his oyster. You weren’t surprised that he didn’t recognize you though. That was Javi you grew up with. This Javier was different. It was plain to see that he carried a weight with him. Knowing the things he knew, holding on to whatever he’d done in the back of his mind now and forever. He wasn’t the bright and shiny version of Javi you once knew, but he was still as golden as ever.
As you hopped out of the car and twirled the keys on your finger, you were beyond satisfied at your decision to postpone your reunion with Javi. Crossing the threshold of your house you recalled how panicked he looked. The quick flashes of “oh shit” in his eyes before he masked his uncertainty with precision and a charming smile. To others, he played it off fine, but you knew Javi before he was Agent Peña. You’d practically grown up with him so you were privy to those subtle tells.
Javi’s abuelos moved to be closer to their son and his family. His grandparents and your parents met in English class after they moved to America and the families stayed close ever since. Javi’s family was from Mexico, and yours came from Colombia. Each of your tíos and tías helped watch and raise you and your primos. While most of your blood relatives were still in Colombia, you loved your found family here in the States. All of the birthdays spent in one another’s backyards with copious amounts of candy that came pouring out of piñatas. Big Christmas gatherings with mountains of food like ponche, pozole verde, and dulcitos like your favorite manjar blanco. Above all, you remember the laughter.
You laughed so much as a child. Someone could look at you in such a way and you would have burst out into a fit of giggles and happy squeals. It was a bittersweet thing to recall. Things were just… different now. You grew up. Life changed, you certainly had.
This was the home your parents had built not too long after they came to America. You still felt like a little kid playing house sometimes. Being the sole occupant felt strange after the years you spent growing up with the place bursting with laughter, people, and above all love. But life changed. Your mother had died of a heart attack the year before you finished vet school. Ten years back, your father was diagnosed with early onset dementia and it was left to you to make the hard decision of placing him in a nursing home. You couldn’t care for him with the hours you worked at the clinic, and you didn’t think your heart could bear seeing the man you admired slowly fade away. It made you feel awful to admit, but there was only so much a heart could take. It could’ve been different if you still had your mamá, but it was just you.
Your body hitched a bit as you bent over to pull the dirt caked boots off your feet. Growing up is fun, they said. They never mentioned anything about rapid onset aches and pains once you passed thirty. You loved being a vet, you loved taking care of horses and all manner of livestock; being there for the folks who relied on you, but man alive was it taxing on the body.
As you padded your way into the study just to the left of the front door, you dropped the excess paperwork and lunch pale on your desk; your boots onto the old mat so as to not spread anymore dirt in the house. Trying your best to properly file away your paperwork, billing receipts and lists of future visits, you found your mind wandering back to Javier.
The wonderful way his bone structure had sharpened with age. Yeah he was a good looking teenage boy -- a bit on the thin side, but strong in body and mind -- but this version of Javi was a stud. His skin was naturally tanner than some, but it was even more bronzed by the sun from his time down in Colombia. A man with strong looking hands that wrapped the circumference of the tumbler glass filled with neat whiskey meanwhile yours could only manage to get around halfway. You were extremely annoyed at how he could pull off a damn mustache without looking like a creep. Finding that you were spending far too much time thinking about Javier Peña rather than getting your ass ready for bed, you set off on your nightly routine.
Pushing yourself up and out of the desk chair was more tiresome than you would have liked to admit, but not impossible. You then opened the door that led into your bedroom. It still felt a bit weird to call it your bedroom after all this time.
You had redecorated the place to your tastes. The main bedroom now had a beautiful four post bed with pleated gossamer drapes around the posts. The warm wood bureau and doors matched the deep trim of the window sills and frames throughout the house. You removed your everyday jewelry and placed them in the little wooden dishes you had bought in Colombia the last time you visited. You had just turned twenty two then, and didn’t care to remember how old you were now. Admiring the fine artistry of the delicately carved lines and lacquered scenery of a village always brought back fine memories, summers spent in a home away from home. Peeling off your work clothes proved a bit more challenging now that your muscles and bones had started to stiffen from the wear of the workday. You walked into your bathroom as naked as the day you were born, a small perk of having moved into the main bedroom since it had an ensuite bathroom.
After the long day, a shower just didn’t seem like it was going to cut it. You pivoted to the left and began to draw a steaming hot bath. A few drops of essential oil were splashed into the piping hot water. Your abuelita did always say, “Medicina cuando la necesita, pero los remedios naturales siempre son los mejores.”
Medicine when you need it, but natural remedies are always best.
Once the tub was filled as high as it could go and still accommodate your body, the taps were shut off, and you slipped into the warm bliss. The water worked its magic while you turned on a small radio that sat on the windowsill. It was tuned in to some station based in Mexico that always played música rancheras. You were a self-proclaimed “old soul” and loved your parents' generational music. It was a not-so-guilty-pleasure for you. Even when you were younger, some of the other kids made fun of you for not liking the more modern music. But your mom always reassured you it was because you were un romántico. A romantic.
The soulful melodies and elegant guitar echoed through the steam from the bath as your aches and pains were softly pulled from your bones. The sky outside the window was a dusty pink muddled with orange. The heat from the bath was wonderful. Your mind wandered ever farther as you sunk deeper into relaxation. Tonight was one of those evenings you imagined someone else in the tub with you, it was one of the reasons you’d thrown in a couple extra bucks when you redid the bathroom. You imagined leaning against their chest, them running their hands up and down the inner part of your thighs, getting closer and closer to where you wanted their touch the most.
Big and strong hands. Ones that weren’t afraid to leave an imprint, a reminder of their presence. Your cheeks flushed at the thought of them gently pressing and squeezing into your thighs, chest, and hips. The fantasy completed itself when you put a face to this mystery man.
Warm brown eyes, a well-defined jaw, somewhat pouty lips that practically begged you to kiss them with a fucking mustache of all things. You imagined the sound of his voice right next to your ear, whispering dirty things while he continued to paw at your body with confidence. The fresh recall of your most recent conversation made the day dream seem all the more real. It was intimate, enticing. You hadn't had any real boyfriend in a while and with the luscious way the water lapped over your skin, you couldn’t help but squeeze your thighs together unconsciously as his conjured words echoed in your mind.
You feel so soft, Armorsita. Do you like when I touch you here, baby? Oh, you do. I can tell. Mi dama. Tell me. Tell me how much you like it, how much you love being mine. Let me have you, all of you. Let me show you just how much I love touching you right…
Your mind snapped back when your head slipped from its perch on the back of the tub. The room felt steamier than it had before even as the water temperature had dipped to lukewarm.
Was I really just fantasizing about Javier Peña of all people?
It was official then. You needed to get into bed and sleep off whatever delusions these were and come back to reality.
Fully washed and dried, you finished your routine by lathering yourself in your favorite lavender body lotion. Your body felt much better without the thin layer of Texas dust smothering your skin. Something different, however, clouded your mind, or rather, someone. It was a bit alarming how easily Javier permeated your idle thoughts. The encounter suddenly became very clear.
Why did you say goodnight as sultry as you did? Was that even sultry? Why do I keep thinking about it being “sultry”?
Your mind recalled the brief moment your lips touched his cheek. It wasn’t unlike any other time you kissed a friend goodbye. You’d been doing it forever. It was how you said goodbye. You knew that, and so did he. So why did it carve out its own special place in your mind? Why were the sensations so clear and vidid? Why did you so badly want to do it again and again without pause?
Of course your mind would fixate on the person who had just recently come back into your life. It was only natural. Humans are designed to notice differences. It’s a survival technique. To pay attention to possible threats. And you had yet to make up your mind if you considered this version of Javier Peña a friend or foe.

The DD-X Tournaments stories
There were two team tourneys on the old Kaijuhphile boards. A “low tier” and “high tier” monster (by fandom consensus at the time) were paired together.
I’ll post the teams for the first team tournament (in 2005). Lower tiers were placed first in teams.
Official Team-Ups: 01. Gino [i.e. Godzilla 1998] & Orga 02. Ganimes & Super MechaGodzilla (’93) 03. Yongary & Gamera (Heisei) 04. Gappa & MechaGodzilla (’74) 05. Gyaos (Heisei) & Godzilla (Showa) 06. Mothra (Showa) & Fire Rodan 07. Ebirah & King Ghidorah (Showa) 08. Gorosaurus & Mothra (SOS) 09. Pulgasari & Yonggary (Reptilian) 10. Baragon (Showa) & Megaguirus 11. Guiron & Battra Adult 12. Rodan & Kiryu (‘04) 13. Varan & Barugon 14. Brown Gargantua & Godzilla (Heisei 2 [Godzilla after powered up by nuclear sub]) 15. Mechani-Kong & G-Force Moguera 16. Mothra Larva (Showa/Heisei) & Gamera (Showa) 17. Manda & Irys 18. Gigan & Battra Larva 19. Baragon (GMK) & Space Godzilla 20. King Kong & Grand Ghidorah [ ROM trilogy King Ghidorah] 21. Titanosaurus & Hedorah 22. [Ogra from Gorgo] & Cykor [from Reptillian i.e. Yong 23. Kumonga & Biollante 24. Jet Jaguar & Destroyah 25. Anguirus & Death Ghidorah 26. Reptilicus & Godzilla (Millenium) 27. Godzilla Junior & Megalon 28. Green Gargantua & Jiger 29. King Seesar & Godzilla (GMK) 30. Kamacuras & Zigra 31. Viras & Legion 32. Gabara & Mothra (Rebirth)
The winners that year were Legion and Viras, defeating Iris and Manda (showa)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
beating  Iris (Gamera 3)
Tumblr media
and Manda (showa)
Tumblr media
Three Daiei kaiju in one match!
Now, the second team tournament takes some more explaining. Its a long one.
The teams  ended up being sometimes thematic that year. The “more powerful” monster was listed first this time
I redid some of the names in this list to be clearer as fan terminology changing and better dubs and subs coming around over time
GMK Godzilla and Showa Kumonga
Space Godzilla and Rhedosaurus
Fire Rodan and Godzilla Junior [brotherss from another mother, if you are familiar with Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla 2]
Hyper Gyaos and Zedus [gamera enemies is theme here I gues]
Irys and Space Gyaos [strange varieties/mutations of gyaos]
Heisei Gamera and Godzilla ’54
GFW Anguirus and Titanosaurus  [nicknamed Team Dino-Thunder]
GFW Kind Seesar and Toho King Kong
The One and Showa Gigan
Monster X and Showa Anguirus
ROM III King Ghidorah and Gorosaurus [King Ghidorah and his snack, as some put it]
Toon Godzilla-In-Name-Only [from Godzilla: The Animated series] and Showa King Seesar
Dagarah and Clover[field monster]  [Parasite buddies]
Gomora and Rhiahn
King Cobra and Showa Rodan
Megaguirus and Jiger [Team Death Stinger!]
[Mechagodzilla] Kiryu and GMK Mothra  [monsters brought back from dead to fight Godzilla]
Legion and Viras [the defending champions!]
Ultraman Next and GMK Baragon
Godzilla (Kiryu) and [Ogra from Gorgo],  [two  neutral monsters both driven by a search?]
Death Ghidorah and Gabara  [both fought a heroic monster and their kid]
Something very inter got complicated by semifinals.
Super MechaGodzilla and Jet Jaguar
Dragonzord and All-Terraintula [robots used for evil despite officially being made to protect the innocent]
Showa Hedorah and Buraki [from D-Wars]
Biollante and Frankenstein [ Science abomination buddies!]
 MOGUERA and Gamera (G:TB)
Battra (Larva) and Mothra (Showa)
Orga and Megalon
Destoroyah and Varan
Showa MechaGodzilla and Cyber-GINO
King Ghidorah (Heisei) and King Ghidorah (GMK)  [Team Hydra Storm!]
Godzilla (Heisei) and Mothra (Kiryu)
Something amazing happened in the semi-finals
[Battle Master] 10:10 pm: Match 01: [Battle Master] 10:11 pm: Gomora and Rhiahn [Battle Master] 10:11 pm: vs. [Battle Master] 10:11 pm: MOGUERA and Gamera (G:TB) [Battle Master] 10:11 pm: Battlefield: Odo Island [Battle Master] 10:11 pm: Match 02: [Battle Master] 10:12 pm: King Ghidorah (Heisei) and King Ghidorah (GMK) [Battle Master] 10:12 pm: vs. [Battle Master] 10:12 pm: Grand King Ghidorah and Gorosaurus [Battle Master] 10:12 pm: Battlefield: Mt. Fuji
Grand Ghidorah pretty much has this tournament in the bag at this point. It will take a massive upset of epic proportions for him to go down now. GKG was the only one I couldn't think of a decent strategy for Heisei Ghidorah to pull out a win against. His shield and firepower are just way too much for my Hydra Storm team to win...---Orga777
And something did,
In  that match of three king ghidorahs: Radioactive fused future pets, mystical dragons, and space monster
--Grand King Ghidorah and Gorosaurus-- [Battle Master] 9:06 pm: Grand King Ghidorah Focus: Rolls 3--Will target King Ghidorah (GMK) [Battle Master] 9:06 pm: Grand King Ghidorah Attack: Rolls 23--HIT! [Battle Master] 9:06 pm: King Ghidorah (GMK) Defense: Rolls 52--Unsuccessful [Battle Master] 9:07 pm: Gorosaurus Focus: Rolls 3--Will target King Ghidorah (GMK) [Battle Master] 9:07 pm: Gorosaurus Attack: Rolls 07--HIT! [Battle Master] 9:07 pm: King Ghidorah (GMK) Defense: Rolls 78—Unsuccessful
Special Rules: Monster Guardian of Yamato - If one of the other Guardians of Yamato (Baragon [GMK] or Mothra [GMK]) has been DEFEATED in the tournament, King Ghidorah may draw upon its energies to re-roll his first MISSED HIT and increase his own PN by +10..If BOTH other Guardians have been defeated, he is allowed two re-rolls and a +20 increase to his PN.If King Ghidorah is the LAST GUARDIAN remaining in the tournament, he is allowed a final all-out attack when he is defeated, drawing upon the energies of all three Guardian spirits to try to annihilate his enemy. On a roll of 1-2 on a d6, the attack is successful but BOTH KING GHIDORAH AND HIS OPPONENT vanish from the battlefield AND THE TOURNAMENT.
[Battle Master] 9:11 pm: Monster Guardian of Yamato Focus: Rolls 2--Will target Grand King Ghidorah [Battle Master] 9:12 pm: Monster Guardian of Yamato Final Attack: Rolls 1--SUCCESS! [Battle Master] 9:12 pm: Both King Ghidorah (GMK) and Grand King Ghidorah have been removed from the tournament
[Battle Master] 9:07 pm: After 2 rounds, the damage is: [Battle Master] 9:07 pm: King Ghidorah (Heisei) and King Ghidorah (GMK) - 0/GONE [Battle Master] 9:07 pm: Grand King Ghidorah and Gorosaurus - GONE/1
King Ghidorah, the heisei version then killed Gorosaurus over the course of three rounds, with even Gorosaurus’s attempts at playing guerilla warfare failing.
But after that there was a question: Who would be (Heisiei) King Ghidorah’s partner?
Now, those of you who read the transcripts may have noticed that GMK Ghidorah sacrificed himself to destroy Grand King Ghidorah. This means he is out of the tournament. The question immediately arose, "who will replace him?" Gorosaurus was immediately suggested as a replacement. This might have seemed like a silly suggestion, but we all really like Gorosaurus. Furthermore, he got to the semi-finals, and was the last member standing of his team. We figured he'd be more worthy than any of those schmucks who didn't make it past inclusion voting. So, here is the final matchup: [Battle Master] 9:26 pm: The final match of DD X-2 will be... [Battle Master] 9:26 pm: King Ghidorah (Heisei) and Gorosaurus [Battle Master] 9:26 pm: vs. [Battle Master] 9:26 pm: MOGUERA and Gamera (G:TB) [Battle Master] 9:27 pm: Battlefield: Infant Island Gorosaurus LIVES!
The version of King Ghidorah created by time traveling terrorists who strangled Godzilla till he foamed at the mouth.
Tumblr media
with Gorosaurus, the plain looking dinosaur created for a movie adaptation of the King Kong Rankin-Bass cartoon, whose suit happened to be lying around for the big monster crossover movie...where they paralyzed King Ghidora with a sneak attack from behind
Tumblr media
(His uh, wings and tails don’t move after that.)
Up against
MOGUERA, mecha with more firepower than Mechagodzilla
Tumblr media
and Toto, a young Gamera in training from Gamera: The Brave
Tumblr media
The battle was so epic I included a link to it.
Explanation though: Gorosaurus’s “Terrain Master” rule allows them to possibly make an extra surprise attack each turn due to being a jungle predator who once snuck up on King Ghidorah. Toto, as a heroic type was given the special rule to make an attack when they first seem defeated, giving them the chance to tie the score and continue the battle.
Go read if you want, I’ll wait.
so yeah
MOGUERA goes down from alternating attacks. Toto was outnumbered. Little plucky guy then immediately takes out Heisei Ghidorah, leaving him and Gorosaursau
But Gorosaurus has been using extra attacks to target Toto the entire match, like the Sharptooth going after Littlefoot.
Tumblr media
Now though, in the final round they start giving him buffs
[Battle Master] 9:22 pm: 54 - (Original Godzilla) - The kaiju manages to surprise its foe with an unexpected attack. Regardless of whether this roll is a HIT or MISS, the kaiju [Gorosaurus] may immediately make ANOTHER Attack Roll. [Battle Master] 9:27 pm: Terrain Master Bonus Attack: Rolls 56--Miss--Primal Number! [Battle Master] 9:27 pm: 56 - (Godzilla, KotM) - The kaiju's furious assault causes it to swell with power. Any Wounds it has already received are REDUCED by 1 to reflect the kaiju's renewed strength. [Battle Master] 9:27 pm: Gamera (G:TB) Attack: Rolls 90--Miss [Battle Master] 9:27 pm: Gorosaurus Attack: Rolls 02--PRIMAL NUMBER! [Battle Master] 9:28 pm: 02 - (GMK) - The kaiju unleashes an attack of hideous power, instantly dealing D3 wounds on its enemy. However, so great is the toll this attack takes that the kaiju must FORFEIT ITS OWN NEXT TURN. A 3-sided die is rolled to determine how much damage its opponent receives. [Battle Master] 9:28 pm: The roll is 3. Gamera (G:TB) has been dealt 3 wounds
Gorosaurus has dealt three wounds to Toto who already has two. And gorosaurus already healed one wound. There is no way for Toto to roll dice in a way so as to tie so as to continue the match
But he can still go down being spiteful.
[Battle Master] 9:28 pm: 01 - Critical Hit - The kaiju deals *2* points of damage against its opponent. This CAN NOT be defended against.
[Battle Master] 9:28 pm: Combat has concluded
[Battle Master] 9:29 pm: The final damage tally is: [Battle Master] 9:29 pm: MOGUERA and Gamera (G:TB) - 3/5 [Battle Master] 9:29 pm: King Ghidorah (Heisei) and Gorosaurus - 3/3
Yeah, no one was likely conscious by the end of this fight.

Tokusatsu Streaming Guide: Where to Watch Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and More
https://ift.tt/2VR6eGr
Ten years ago a fan of Tokusatsu (Japanese special effects shows, mostly superheroes) could have never imagined the access we’d have to these programs today. Back then official releases of anything outside of the American adaptations, particularly Power Rangers, seemed like a far off dream. However in the past few years especially there’s been a slow trickle of Toku shows becoming available to stream in North America.
In the last few months though that trickle became a waterfall as several new services have quickly become mainstays, finally allowing Toku fandom to finally enjoy their favorite shows legally. This also allows more casual fans a chance to experience these shows for the first time and that’s who this guide is mostly for. If you’re curious about the wider world of Tokusatsu and need a place to start, this guide should cover your bases for the many kinds of Toku series out there.
Just as a note, we are only discussing shows that are legally available. This also isn’t a comprehensive list. Many of the streaming services mentioned below have multiple Toku series available, we’re just picking a small sample. With that in mind, let’s dive into this ocean of Toku, shall we?
Kamen Rider (1971)
Available on TokuSHOUTsu (Shout Factory TV/tubi/Pluto)
The release that shocked and delighted Toku fans, the original series in the long running Kamen Rider franchise may be old but that doesn’t detract from its enjoyment. This is Toku in its purest form. Incredible fights, trippy special effects, bizarre monsters, and a strikingly bleak backstory for the main character.
Hongo Takeshi is kidnapped by the evil Shocker and transformed against his will into a cyborg. Worrying if his humanity is intact, Hongo still fights for justice as Kamen Rider. It may seem simplistic in our modern age of superheroes but there’s something enduringly appealing about Hongo’s quest to stop evil despite the wrongs that were inflicted on him.
Plus, come on, you can’t beat those trumpets that come in for damn near every music number. Highly recommend if you’re down for old school heroics or just want to enjoy some trippy 70’s TV.
Zyuranger (1992)
Available on TokuSHOUTsu (Shout Factory TV/tubi/Pluto)
Many people reading this are no doubt aware of Power Rangers, especially the original Mighty Morphin series. If you want to rock your world, you gotta check out the Super Sentai series Zyuranger. It’s as far from MMPR as you can imagine, with a team of dinosaur-evolved humans from 170 million years ago brought into the present day.

TokuSHOUTsu: Kamen Rider, Ultraman, and Super Sentai Coming to Streaming
By Shamus Kelley
The differences between it and MMPR will be the main draw for most and as you watch the series you’ll be impressed just how much the producers of Power Rangers were able to take this footage and remold it for America.
Ultraman Mebius
Available on TOKU
You can’t do a list about Tokusatsu without giving love to one of the big three, Ultraman. While the franchise’s original series sadly isn’t streaming (but you’ll be able to soon), you can’t go wrong with the 40th anniversary season Ultraman Mebius. Following the adventures of the rookie Mebius, the Ultra comes to Earth and joins up with the attack team (hilariously out of context) named GUYS. Mebius, GUYS, and even a few characters from past Ultraman series, fight off giant monsters attacking Earth.

Marvel Reveals Ultraman Details
By Shamus Kelley
Both a great introduction for new fans and rewarding for long time Ultra fans, Mebius is a fantastic show to jump headfirst into the hero that’s larger than life.
Garo
Available on HiDive
If you want something off the beaten path of the big three Tokusatsu franchises, Garo might be right up your alley. Feeling a bit darker than other Toku (and not just because much of the action taking place at night or in darker spaces), the series follows Makai Knight Kouga Saezima attempting to protect humanity against the evil “Horrors.” Along the way though he encounters Kaoru, who is set to die in 100 days, and he sets out to try and save her.
Everything from the look of the series to the designs of the Garo suit feel different from Sentai, Kamen Rider, and Ultraman and if you aren’t feeling the more traditional vibe of those series Garo might be right up your alley. It’s also the first in a very long and surprising franchise so if you like it, there’s a lot more to get into.
Space Sheriff Gavan
Available on Toei Tokusatsu World Official
The first of the not as often remembered Metal Heroes franchise (although some of the series in it were adapted into VR Troopers and Beetleborgs), Gavan stands out for just how wild it is from the jump. Sure there’s the story about Don Horror (wonder if he’s a bad guy!) trying to destroy Earth and Retsu Ichijouji (Gavan) being sent out to stop him but that’s all icing on the cake.

American Tokusatsu Shows: Big Bad Beetleborgs
By Shamus Kelley
Metal Heroes have a reputation for bonkers visuals along with great action and Gavan delivers in spades. From the opening seconds of the first episode we’re greeted with Gavan standing atop a robot dragon standing against a gloriously lush background of outer space. Lead actor Kenji Ohba is also stunning in his action scenes and he puts even the superheroes of today to shame with just how good he is in these hand-to-hand fights.
Love action? Love weirdness? Want to be cool and not go with the obvious choices? Gavan might be for you!
Android Kikaider
Available on Toei Tokusatsu World
An absolute smash hit in Hawaii that’s still talked about to this day, Kikaider is more classic ’70s Toku action if Kamen Rider wasn’t enough for you. Following the heroics of robot Jiro against the (obviously) evil DARK, the main draw of the series is not just the delightfully over the top action but also the compelling conflict between Kikaider and evil robot Hakaider.
We should also mention that while the first two episodes of all series on Toei Tokusatsu World are subtitled, further episodes that will be uploaded won’t have them and it’s being left up to fans to subtitle the rest. Even without subtitles though, Kikaider’s action should more than keep your attention.
Dynaman (Night Flight Dub)
Available on Night Flight Plus
Easily the strangest entry on this list, Night Flight’s Dynaman isn’t just the seventh entry in the Super Sentai series. Oh no, it’s a little known dub of the show that aired on USA Network’s Night Flight program in the ’80s. It’s a gag dub through and through and mostly relies on pop culture jokes and (and we’re being generous here) outdated humor.
Still, it’s a peek into one of the earliest examples of Toku being brought to America on a large scale. For that alone it’s worth checking out, especially for those interested in the history of Toku in America and exploring the “what if” of imagining this getting popular instead of Power Rangers.
Gridman The Hyper Agent
Available on TOKU
Bold proclamation to make, but Gridman has the absolute best design of any Tokusatsu hero ever. It takes what worked well enough for Ultraman but added extra detail in all the right places to create a truly iconic look for a hero.
Gridman follows three hip computer kids (Naoto, Ippei, and Yuka) whose videogame superhero is taken over by the interdimensional Gridman who then combines with Naoto. The computer hero fights against the digital monsters of the evil Kahn Digifer in some of the best looking fights of all the series we’ve mentioned. Some shows might have better action overall but the look of the computerized world of Gridman can’t be beat.

SSSS. GRIDMAN Episode 1 Review: Awakening
By Shamus Kelley
The show may look familiar to some American fans as its footage was used in Superhuman Samurai Syber-Squad. Gridaman also experienced a revival in the form of the SSSS.GRIDMAN anime, which redid some of the concepts of the original series with a few easter eggs to Syber-Squad for very hardcore fans.
Special Rescue Exceedraft
Available on Toei Tokusatsu World Official
Look, I’m going to be real with you. I’ve only seen the first two episodes of Exceedraft. I have no idea if the whole series is good. What I can tell you though is that the first episode is straight up the most batshit wild episode of any Toku I’ve ever seen. It’s like if someone took the plot of Speed and said:
“Aha, let’s do this but condense it down to 20 minutes, add in some shiny superheroes, and make it way more intense.” Also, the title of the episode is “The Kindergarten Bus of Death.” Just watch it. If you watch nothing else on this list, watch this episode. It’s Toku on, well, speed and it’s fantastic.
Jetman
Available on TokuSHOUTsu (Shout Factory TV/tubi/Pluto)
What if Super Sentai, but a soap opera? It’s not that Tokusatsu had never had soap opera elements before or after this series, but Jetman took that idea to a level that’s still being talked about today. When Red Ranger Ryuu’s partner is killed in an attack by the (say it with us now) evil Vyram, the powerful “Birdonic Waves” are unleashed on four unsuspecting civilians. Ryuu recruits them and they become the Jetman team.
With strong characterization from the start, Jetman stands out by jumping into the romance between team members as Ryuu struggles with his growing attraction to White Ranger Kaori. It’s standard soap opera stuff, with a love triangle thrown in for good measure (which would have been better if Kaori was given more agency), but if you love those tropes then Jetman might be the series for you.
As we said earlier, this is only a small sampling of some of the shows available on streaming sites in North America. What are some of your favorite Tokusatsu series that are available to watch and which ones do you hope are picked up in the future?

Can I have another imagine? Imagine Ben accidentally wishing to know what its like in the isle.
Loosely inspired by the argument scene between Mal & Ben in D2 (not connected to the movie though)Also so this didn't go how i planned it to?MENTIONS OF CHILD ABUSE/RAPE/PTSD/EATING DISORDERS ---Ben had been pacing in his office for what seemed like hours. "Believe me, I know..." Mal had said. The Isle was bad. Ben knew that. He saw that every time he saw Carlos hiding in area that was way too small for his frame. He saw it when Jay tightened his hands on his book straps until he was red in the face to keep them from wandering. He saw it when Evie scrubbed her face bare and redid her makeup with shaking hands. He saw it when Mal glared at everyone and sketch out Long Live Evil signs. But they were in Auradon now and the Isle may be bad but surely it wasn't bad enough for them to be over it by now. So why weren't they?"It feels like just yesterday when I standing before your father," a voice stated from behind him. Ben whirled around and blinked out the spots in his eyes from the bright pink light."You Beastly men. Always thinking you're better than another because of your status," the voice continued until the light dimmed down to show off a beautiful blonde lady."Bonjour, Benjamin. I'm the Enchantress," she smiled at him. Ben felt shivers run down his spine at her smile. "Speechless, eh? Better than your father with all of his yelling for another chance," the Enchantress stated as she leaned forward in his desk chair."What are you doing here?" Ben heard himself ask."What I do best, of course. Give you Beasts trouble. Don't worry, you're life wont be measured by a rose," she giggled to herself as she just told the best joke in the world. "I always knew your mother and father would be the ones for each other, you know. After I cursed him, I had to pave the way for them to find each other. You're welcome.""Merci, I think? But what did I do for you to be here," Ben demanded. She pulled her wand out and pointed it at him. "Don't use that tone with me, Benjamin Florian! Without me, you wouldn't even be here."Ben felt his mouth snap shut. She did have a point. She cleared her throat before the smile was back."I'm here because of the selfishness in your heart. I'm disappointed, actually. With Belle as your mother, I wouldn't have expected your heart to be so selfish. I thought it would've been Chandler that I would've had to visit even if he is technically my sister's charge or that ex girlfriend of yours, Audrey. Mother knows that Janet, Flora, Fauna, and Merryweather are doing horrible jobs with them. I told them the Isle was a bad idea, but no one wanted to listen to the woman that cursed a selfish man," she spat bitterly. Her eyes flashed as she remembered how her objections fell on death ears. How Fairy Godmother tried to belittle her. "You should lay low, Enchantress. Adam still hasn't forgiven you for turning him into a beast," she had said. At least the Enchantress' transformation lasted for years and not hours. She seriously couldn't give that poor girl until 1 o'clock. A shame really. "Selfishness," Ben questioned drawing her back out of her thoughts. The smile was back. "Oh, yes. Your friends from that cursed prison. The Isle of the Lost where you all had my sister locked in but she escaped and now sitting in her daughter's room as a lizard."This time she stood up as she made her way closer to Ben. "You don't understand why they're not over the trauma they received from the Isle. But you cannot undo 14 to 16 years of pain.""But they're in Auradon now. They're safe! Don't they understand that?"She ran a hand down his face, "They know that, but their behavior has been instilled in them since they could sit up on their own. Hm, here let me show you."Before Ben could ask what she meant, she pressed her fingers to his face and everything went black. When Ben finally came around, the first thing he noticed was how no one paid attention to him. The second was the body that literally walked right through him. He looked around and noticed well a dump. Unstable buildings surrounded him. The smell of rotten food hit his nose and he gagged at the foul and questionable scents. But then a familiar flash of color caught his eye. He whipped around to stare at the obvious younger version of his girlfriend. She looked... she looked like how she did when she first came to the Isle except more dark. More evil. Beside her was the obvious younger version of Jay. His hair was still long except this time it stopped at the very beginning of his back. There was a cruel smirk on his face as they stood outside of what appeared to be their school. Their old school. Students gave the two of them wide berth as they made their way into the building. Not too long after another boy went stumbling backwards on the steps as the familiar younger version of Evie appeared with a glare so fierce he thought he was looking at the framed photo of the Evil Queen that Snow White keeps on her desk. Some kids squealed and ran in the opposite direction as she appeared."You broke my nail," she snarled as she held her hand up. Mal and Jay stepped forward to see the offending nail and glared at the boy on the ground. It may seem stupid to get mad about a nail, but they knew what the Evil Queen would do when she saw it."I-I-I didn't mean to," the boy stuttered pitifully. He tried to stumble away, but he didn't get far when the familiar form of Carlos dropped out of nowhere right behind him. "I'm sorry!""You're sorry? You know what my mother would do to me if she heard me ever say that," Carlos snarled. The other three nodded their heads. You just don't apologize on the Isle. Carlos grabbed the boy by the front of his shirt and dragged him back in front of his friends."He's all yours," he told Jay and Mal. Before pulling Evie away while the other two tore into the boy, he led her to unoccupied room and began to try to fix her nail. "We made this in Weird Science when we had a joint class with Gothel. Apparently, it's what gives girls nails. Something called acrylic."Evie smiled and kept her sniffles to herself. Massacre avoided. It wasn't long before her nail was fixed and her other two friends appeared."Crisis fixed," Jay questioned wiping the blood from his hands. Evie nodded and showed off her fixed nail. "Wicked.""Lets ditch," Mal stated like an opinion. But the rest of them knew it was an order, so they all just left without even looking at their classes. They just walked away from school and made their way to the marketplace."Score. I can do some shopping early," Jay stated before they made their way into the throngs of people.Ben watched with wide eyes as the four of them stole. Jay was looting the most and he was doing it effortlessly. Evie didn't have to steal much. With her perfect pout and a smile every now and then, people just handed things to her while she stole whatever stood out to her but no one wanted to give away. Mal didn't have to steal much either. A glare here or there had people scrambling to give them whatever she wanted, but that didn't stop her from grabbing a couple of wallets and whatever else she found appealing. She laughed cruelly as she walked off and found a poster of his dad. She reached into the crevices of the walls and brought of spray paint. Then she started another one of her familiar long live evil designs. This one with Cruella as the background. Carlos' small stature had him zipping in and out as he took whatever he could get his hands on. Food, money, and is that a fur coat? where is he going to even hide that! After awhile, the four of them left the marketplace and headed towards what stated Jafar's Junkshop. "Dad," Jay called. Jafar made his down and scowled the second he saw his son. "Don't you suppose to be at school," Jafar questioned. Jay shrugged and started to empty his pockets and Jafar immediately lost his scowl. And even though it was far from encouraged, Mal and the others started to empty their own pockets. How else could they get Jay to hang out with them if Jafar wasn't pleased?Jafar nodded his head with an eyebrow raised as he looked over everything. He looked at Jay and said, "I guess you aren't completely useless. I expect to see better this afternoon."Jay fought down his smile and nodded his head before waiting to be dismissed. "You can go," Jafar stated shooing them away. They all walked off somewhat slowly to make it seem as if they weren't excited to have help Jay make his dad somewhat proud of him. Ben watched as Mal brushed a hand through her hair and saw the beginnings of a tattoo peeking out from under her jacket sleeve."What now," Evie questioned. Carlos startled."If i get home and start on chores now, then there won't be anything for me to do this evening!"The other three scowled at the mention of Carlos going home. They didn't want him around Cruella longer than he had to be."Fine," Mal snapped. Her hatred for his mother clear in her voice. "But we're going to be in the treehouse if you need us."Carlos nodded his head. If anything, the fact that his friends were near would have him working harder. This time the four made their way to Hell Hall with Ben silently following them. And the route they took this time had tears springing to his eyes. He saw little kids running around before being snatched away into alleyways. Their screams and pleads of help falling on death ears. Their "leave me alone" and "you cant touch me there" being ignored. He saw other kids being slapped down in front of people. Their arms being grabbed so forcefully that they might as well be pulling them out of the socket. He wanted to help, but how could he? He couldn't even touch them.He just closed his eyes and tried to block out the sounds of pain coming from around him. When he opened his eyes, he basically ran away from the scene to catch up to the Rotten Four. He watched as the older three broke off and headed towards the backyard while Carlos headed through the front door.Ben hesitated but he kept following Carlos. He can admit that it was a selfish decision to see what one of their homes looked like despite them never really talking about it.He didn't expect the bottle to come flying at his head. He ducked on instinct and saw Carlos a few steps ahead doing the same."What are you doing here, brat? This is my time!" Cruella snarled as she made her way towards her son. She had previously sitting on the couch attempting to sew up a pillow when Carlos opened the door."I didn't have anything better to do, so I-I decided to come home and do my chores," Carlos stuttered out. Ben gasped as Cruella slapped him with the sewing needle still in her hand."This isn't your home! This is my house and you're only here because I need someone to keep my furs clean," she snarled. Carlos didn't say anything but pull put the fur coat that he had stolen earlier from the inside of his own jacket and wow, how did that fit in there? And are those matching earmuffs?"I brought you a gift, mother," Carlos told her holding out the objects. The snarl dropped completely off her face to be replaced with an insane smile. She bet the little stuffed scarf/dog thing around her shoulders."Yes, Baby. Maybe the mutt is good for something other than cleaning," she told it. And Ben felt a little disturbed at the obvious affection in her voice for a stuffed animal in comparison to her son. "Add it to the others and fluff them. And don't forget to wash my baby when I get back from the spa." She grabbed her keys and left the house slamming the door shut. Carlos sighed deeply before sinking to floor. He looked at the droplets of blood splattered on the floor before he headed towards the closet and walked in carefully.Ben didn't understand why until he got a good look at the floor and the first thing he saw was traps lying on the ground. And not something simple as mice traps. Huge bear traps. And wolf traps. And then he got a clear look at the furs surrounding them. Her closet had more furs in it than Audrey had dresses. Teapots! Did she expect him to fluff all of these with those traps lying around? Ben saw the resigned acceptance on Carlos face and knew that she did. Ben didn't want to see anymore of this. He didn't think he could stomach it. Carlos was the youngest and he was like a life sized teddy bear. If his mom threw a bottle and slapped him for just coming home, what would she do if he didn't finish the furs? What else had she done just for Carlos being born? Then he thought about the panic in Evie's eyes at the mention of her broken nail. What would her mother would've done if she went home with that? He remembered the reports for when the four came to Auradon, but he dismissed hem thinking they were being biased because they were villains. Evie had a slight eating disorder. She ate just enough to stay her size. She didn't eat under and she didn't eat over. And she'd starve or force herself to throw up if she did. He didn't want to believe it. Evie was perfect. Why would she need to watch her weight so badly? He thought about the desperate gleam of approval in Jay's eyes as he emptied his pockets for his dad. The happiness in his eyes when his dad said he wasn't worthless. A viscous beast with a heart of gold the adults had whispered about him. and then he thought of Mal whose glare fell on anybody that hurt one of her own and compared her to the girl he knew. He knew Maleficent only wanted the most evil for her. How would she have acted if she saw the connection between the her daughter and the other three? He didn't think he wanted to know. Mal, you're not on Isle anymore. And maybe it's time I stopped trying to force myself to forget that its all you knew. Put the ball in your hands. When Ben blinked, everything went black and he was back in his office this time to the worried faces of the other four. They were all staring at him worried and jumped back the second they noticed his eyes open."Ben," they all sighed in relief before averting their eyes.Mal stepped back a little. "We know what happened."Ben sat up on the couch he had been placed on with the help of Evie. "The Enchantress came to our room demanding to see her sister and telling Mal that she was her favorite niece and that she placed you under a viewing spell and you were going to need our help when you woke," Evie stated."She showed me the Isle," Ben told him and noticed how all of them tensed. "You four were... You really ruled the Isle. I didn't see much, but you could tell with how everyone basically gave you all everything." The four of them still didn't look him in the eyes as he spoke. He wasn't going to mention anything about Cruella and Carlos. "I didn't see much other than you guys stealing and disturbing scenes in the marketplace. It stopped as the four of you mentioned a tree house?"He noticed some tension leave at the mention of it. He guessed it was their safehaven, but they still didn't say anything."You four will always be the kids from Isle. And its about time we all accepted that and stopped expecting you all to get over it. Its wrong of all of us."The four gave him small smiles, but they all still seemed a little forced."Well, I'm glad that learned your lesson and it didn't take years for you," the achingly familiar voice of the Enchantress stated from her seat at his desk again. She had the lizard form of Maleficent sitting beside her. "Unlike Janet, who decided to lock our sister away and then had the audacity to treat her like an animal. I will be taking her home to face the punishment from our mother. And Mal, dear, when you're ready I'll take you to meet her also seeing as Janet hasn't even taken her own daughter to meet mother."She stood up in her full glory and grabbed Maleficent's tank before turning back to the five of them. "Benjamin, I am proud to be your families' guardian despite the way my actions may seem. You have my blessing to date my niece."Ben and Mal blushed as she disappeared before them. Evie, Jay, and Carlos all laughed at the looks of the two of their faces ridding the room of the tension in the air. Ben looked at the four of them. The Isle may be worse than he expected but if these four can shine and blossom, then he knew with their guidance so could other kids."You guys want to help me choose the next group of kids to come over?"
