Some more observations with IEYTD 2

There’s signs outside of just Handler’s odd line delivery in Safe and Sound. Look at what he gives us at the end of every level.

A cupcake and a bottle of champagne with a champagne flute.

Now let’s look at what Juniper leaves for Phoenix when trying to convince them he’s their handler.

A slice of cake and a glass of wine. It’s so close, but not quite right. He knew that Phoenix usually was given cake and alcohol, but not the little things. Why would John go out of his way to get champagne? He’s got cellars full of wine, and it’s not like that small detail will make much difference.

Honestly, when I first played I remember thinking wow that’s a lotta cake- because that is a huge slice of cake. You immediately know something’s off… but not what.

And the sandwich just feels like overcompensating. Handler has been shown leaving Phoenix sandwiches all through the first game, but not as much in the second one. It’s a safety net.

“See? I’m you handler, I even got you a sandwich!”

Lewis Handler / The Director

Formally a secret agent, now an agent supervisor who has a bit of an antique collecting habit. While searching a junkyard for any valuables, Director had found his now companion’s, Phoenix Polyblank, radio in the junk heap. As an elite himself, he tends to send Phoenix and Niles Tonopah out on missions to collect evidence for other elites or to keep consistent tabs on individuals.

There isn't that many EOD members we know of, so this features Prism as well.

You’re likely brought in after one of their many big missions. (Each game's final mission.)

So they’ll be surprised but excited to see and meet a new agent.

If you two get along, great! You have a new friend now, one that constantly follows you.

When you have a mission they always try to go with you if possible, though they are fully aware they are the best the agency has.

Never brings you on their missions, they are far too dangerous for someone as new as you.

They’ll take it upon themself to teach you everything you need to know.Speaking of, forget the training manuals and videos, who needs that when you have the agent Phoenix?

ℝ𝕖𝕘𝕚𝕟𝕒𝕝𝕕 ℂ𝕣𝕒𝕟𝕖:

Honestly, he isn’t that surprised at there being a new recruit, but he is a little surprised.

So if you show him some potential he’ll immediately take you under his wing and care.

He’ll opt to teach you everything you need to know, mainly with the manuals and videos. But he’ll occasionally take something from Phoenix’s book.

But after Phoenix’s missions and tricks? He’s being a lot more careful with newer recruits.

For your first few missions he is internally freaking out constantly.

But he tries to make sure you don’t realize, otherwise you might freak out as well.

So he does everything in his power to be there for every step of the way if possible.

ℝ𝕠𝕩𝕒𝕟𝕒 𝕡𝕣𝕚𝕤𝕞:

It's highly likely she won’t even realize, uncaring for any agency agents.

And she’ll continue to not care until you make yourself known, whether its against her or her bots

But even then it’s more of a one shdie rivalry, if you prove to be good enough.

If you are good enough, she’ll try to gather any bit of information she can to take you down.

I’m back on my bullshit y’all and by bullshit I mean mixing Puella Magi Madoka Magica with small Tumblr fandoms

And get this: Agent Phoenix who is a magical girl

- They still use they/them pronouns, they just happened to be afab and either Kyubye didn’t care or they only realized they’re non-binary some time after they contracted

- Their wish was something along the lines of: ‘Let me be able to live, no matter what!’ And they made it as they were dying from a terrorist attack

- Bc I’m such a tea sipper, the Agency happened to arrive at the scene and they were rescued by an agent not long after they made their contract, which may or may not have inspired them to become an agent

- With their wish, they’re able to see into the future. This is how they keep surviving. The deaths are just visions.

- They lost their family in the attack, so they have lived on their own for quite some time.

- They joined the Agency partly because of the memory of being rescued, a minor hero complex and because they know they can’t die, so might as well use it.

- They fight Witches between missions. Once a Witch was nearby just before they went on a mission, so they had to ask Handler if it could wait for a bit. He was hesitant but let them

- They keep everything from Handler and the Agency, because they don’t want to risk Zoraxis finding out and trying to take advantage of magical girls (and secretly, they don’t fully trust the Agency either)

- They do tell the Handler eventually though and he is pretty disturbed but supportive

- Their weapon is either a gun (boring) or explosives (cool but super ironic)

- Still the depiction of a smoking, alcoholic pyromaniac because what else would they be??? Competent??? (They are)

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR MADOKA MAGICA

- They are aware of the truth about Soul Gems

- The fact they made it into adulthood is actually a rarity, and made possible only because of their wish, determination and sheer luck.

- *Tosses Handler their Soul Gem* “Careful, you literally have my life in your hands” “What???”

- Eventually they can’t keep it up anymore and their Soul Gem darkens too much. My headcanon is that the longer a magical girl lives, the more powerful the Witch is. Phoenix’s witch could wipe out an entire city and they know it. And since they’ve grown attached to the Handler and don’t want to kill them along with the rest of the Agency, they ask him to shatter their Soul Gem.

- He doesn’t want to do it. Phoenix begs him. They are too tired/weak to do it themselves

- The fire must eventually be put out, or it will burn everything around it.

- He extinguishes it

I want to make an appreciation post for the IEYTD tumblr community because its not talked about enough. I love you guys :)

When I first got into these games a few months ago, I had no idea how to find other people or content creators. I started out on insta where I had trouble finding other people and it was really lonely. The discord was/is better and there are some cool people on there as well but about 70% of the new people who were joining were just looking for the release date (it’s gotten better recently and there are great creators there but its more focused on the games themselves than the characters/story). Then because of a friend, I tried tumblr and my god I love it here.

There’s tons more art and people here than I thought there would be and I cannot stress enough how awesome it is seeing everyone’s takes on characters. The Phoenixes and Handlers in particular are my favorites because its like I get to see a little bit of the artist in Phoenix, and who doesn’t love the funny, quippy British voice? They’re so diverse, I love how something as small as a little scar has a whole backstory for it. I find it fascinating to see how many people see Phoenix’s color as red (no hate at all, I love them!). Not to mention the posts about the Fabricator, Juniper, Zor, Solaris, Prism, etc, I love all of these characters and the nuances in their personalities.

The fics I’ve seen are so interesting, shout out to all the writers you guys are AMAZING!! I’ve got to get better at sitting down to actually write my own but some of my favorites on Ao3 are Red String, Spying the Liar, Rising From the Ashes, or so to Speak, Issue is Spelt with a “U” (And an “I” too), Such Lovely Feathers on Your Turncoat, and last but ABSOLUTELY not least, all of Calivide’s works. Seriously I love all of these, I’m such a sucker for angst, fluff, and good writing. If I’ve missed any other good ones or if you have your own, PLEASE reblog or comment or ping me or share them in some way, I’d love to check them out :)
