Breaking Good, a Kingdom Hearts fanfic, chapter 8

Ienzo is a heroin addict. Already struggling to get by in his PhD program, a fire leaves him homeless and increasingly isolated from his family. A near death experience gives him a choice: try recovery again and deal with feelings that cut too deep, or give into the darkness entirely.

Zemyx, Ienzoku. Updates Mondays until it's done. Chapter summary: Ienzo continues his attempt at recovery, making a few connections in the process.

After that outburst, Demyx took Ienzo to medical to clean and bandage that palm properly. His nails hadn’t even been long, and yet, they’d broken that fragile skin, gone deep. Demyx escorted him personally back to his room, had some medicine sent up. He wrote a prescription for Klonopin--not ideal, but in very controlled doses it could manage the panic in an emergency. Ienzo did not yet know how to manage the anxiety in a healthy way on his own. He needed that crutch.

After that… he wanted very badly to blow off his next meeting with his supervisor, but a freshly-back-from-vacation Marluxia was even more on the warpath than he was ordinarily. He started to write a report about that session, trying to put together all it told him about Ienzo, but there was no time. All he could do was worry about the poor guy. He’d suspected that Ienzo had been put under a lot of pressure as a child--just due to who his parents were--but he hadn’t expected a full-blown meltdown. Ienzo had been suppressing emotions even before he started using.

He always felt guilt, making his patients feel that much pain. It was a necessary step, to start feeling things again, and to learn to manage it.

He made his way upstairs to Marluxia’s office.

It was a big one, a corner office with windows. There were plants on every flat surface; ferns, lilies, roses, strelitzia. The room was choked full of pink and orange. “Demyx,” he said coolly, barely looking up from his computers. (He had double monitors. Demyx had had to fight just to get one. ) “What can I do for you?”

“I’m here for our meeting. The one that was scheduled? Unless that no longer works for you?”

“...I can make the time.” He looked up and smiled, coldly. He had a tan.

Demyx sat in the seat across from the desk, knowing it wouldn’t be offered to him. “How was your vacation?”

“Not long enough. I see somehow the place is still standing on your watch.”
