"....Y-You were reckless."

Hoarse, but quiet, not timid. After all, being drugged up to numb the pain made Pearce feel more weak than normal. His tone tired, dejected even.

"You c-could have died... o-or worse... I bet you expect pr-praise for it..."

Weakly turning his head away, The Shepherd took small shallow breaths. Almost like he was afraid to breath too loudly.

".... You're an idiot, but thank you... I guess..."

His head and body acted, unfocused vision just zoning in and out of the objects in front of him. Hell, Archer no doubt was ignoring him or sleeping.

It didn't matter what they were, he knew it it was over. Or what he kept thinking he was. He too was abandoned, left to rot. So why did they help?

" .... Can't sleep..."

Tiredly, Archer flopped to their side to face Pearce's bed. Their body was fatigued and restless as they laid there with an IV in their arm. Fingers plucked at the sheets underneath.

"I wasn't aware that was going to happen," Archer said honestly, voice quiet in their silence, not wanting to raise their voice and break the peace of the medical wing.

If they could, Archer would have shook their head but they couldn't muster the energy at the moment so they settled for a quiet sigh. "No. I don't expect praise for my selfish actions or most of my actions not do I want praise for such things. I act on my own selfish desires of wanting to protect those I love and care for...even if it does end with my death," Archer confessed quietly.

They laid there quietly for a moment before looking at their tightly wrapped fingers. "It started off as worry and fear...of you doing the same thing again with the knife, I've seen too many people take their own lives to escape their demons," Archer mumbled, for once sharing about themselves. "Then when I heard voices...I felt keeping the knife away from you - especially while you were recovering - might have helped much more in your progress so I didn't mind that burden. Carrying something like that if it meant someone I still care about could rest then I could deal with what came my way," they moved to thumb the large bite mark on their arm.

"I wasn't expecting what Alu did and I couldn't do much besides do his game and survive. The last thing I wanted was for him to try using my body to hurt you and others....so yeah...I might be an idiot," Archer agreed with a dry chuckle. "But it's just one of my traits - an idiot who keeps fighting," Archer continued to chuckle without being aware of the tears gathering in their eyes.

There was a quiet sniffle as they blinked away their blurry vision and buried their face a little into the pillow. They were quiet again for a little bit before they softly started to hum a little lullaby. It was something they could remember doing, the melody so familiar but the words long lost to them. Archer didn't know how else to help his insomnia besides doing something that she knew helped blurred figures of little kids.
