my formatting actually survived this one wtf

Happy new year, if there's anyone who actually reads these! It's, uh... been a while. School started back up for me in August and I got really busy, and also I got really into tabletop actual plays and got a little bit distracted, lol. Real talk, I started watching this back in January but then school started AGAIN after I'd finished the songs and then I procrastinated on watching the voting sequence for uhhh literally two months lol

Cyprus Overall this isn't a bad start? The verses seem to be too low for the main singer and I would have liked to hear some more harmonies or for the other singers to have parts. I think it's catchy, though, I especially like it after the key change.

United Kingdom Jessica definitely has a great voice, and I appreciated how simple the staging was here. Unfortunately, I really REALLY hate the part of the chorus where she sings "come back" and then the entire track stops. Maybe it's because that's the part that's always in the recap videos, but it really gets on my nerves and honestly brings down the entire song for me.

Austria I love the energy on this one, both in the song and in the performance! It's not the, like, most artfully composed song by all means but I really enjoy the instrumental and I think Manuel really brings a lot to the song. He's not the most technically perfect singer but he's performing really well, just having a great time, you can tell he's happy to be doing what he's doing and that makes what would otherwise be a mediocre song really appealing to me.

Greece The actual song sounds nice but the vocals on this are just bad. I could be persuaded to like this if they, like, had a different singer and replaced the "sagapo S A G A P O" line with something else because that also sounds dumb. I think the staging looks kinda cool and I could get behind the outfits, even, but the vocals here just suck.

Spain This is a fun one. Rosa has a really lovely voice and I almost wish they'd sent her with a more serious song to show that off a little more, but as is this is still pretty good and I like it a lot. My only real issue with it is that weird things keep happening with the key? I don't know enough music theory to be certain if this is the right word but it keeps modulating weird and going in funny places melodically.

Croatia This singer has a really nice tone when she belts, the song is okay, and she looks great in that outfit. Unfortunately, it looks like she doesn't know what to do with herself when she's not singing. They have her walking around the stage and being tryhard sexy and it just isn't working for me. I could also really do without the backing singers.

Russia My thoughts on this are really similar to my thoughts on Cyprus' entry. Idk, it's alright, the vocals suck, I like the chord progression in the chorus I guess?

Estonia I think this is really cute, really fun. I like the guitar and I'm really impressed by Sahlene's high notes at the end. My main problem here is that Sahlene's stage presence is almost too energetic or too sweet.

Macedonia The song is incredibly forgettable. Like I was listening to it and thought to myself, wow, I really am not going to be able to remember the melody at all. I also think Karolina was holding back vocally a LOT, especially at the beginning. Her dresses were nice and I think the staging was overall not bad.

Israel Sarit's voice works really well with the song here, and the backup singers blend well with her. Like I said about Austria, the right performer can really elevate an otherwise unassuming song. The build to the chorus is really good, probably the best part of the song.

Switzerland Not a bad song, reminds me kinda of Disney Fairies almost? Which isn't a bad thing, I was a Disney Fairies kid. But it fails to hold my attention, even though the vocals are good.

Sweden This is some of the best staging of the night IMO. I love a well-executed dance routine. Their voices are also a really nice contrast to the singers before them which really helps the song stand out!

Finland Considering this is a disco song performed in the 2000s, it's a pretty catchy and well-polished number. Definitely one of my favorites of the night.

Denmark This is actually pretty good. Malene doesn't seem very sure of herself onstage, both physically and vocally, but beyond that I actually really vibe with this. It's not a huge standout stylistically so I guess I understand why it placed last but in my opinion it's way better than a number of these other songs.

Bosnia & Herzegovina I love the style of the song! It gives me 50s-60s vibes even though that might not necessarily be right. It's nice and upbeat and I think Maja's voice suits the song very well. The staging was kind of weird though, everyone was weirdly spaced out onstage.

Belgium I don't dislike this necessarily, but it is really repetitive, and I just kind of get bad vibes from Sergio. Nothing more to say here.

France In terms of vocals and the melody line this song is probably the best. I'm a fan of more upbeat songs generally, unless they really hit emotionally, so this slower song isn't really my thing. But Sandrine's voice is really just stellar.

Germany Whoa. I hate this. Corinna's voice is alright and she's on key and everything but I just hate her tone, it's weird and nasal and vibrate-y. The ending is really abrupt and makes no sense, and it looks like the backing singers weren't given enough instruction on how to move, they kept doing different things and weren't at all in sync with each other and it was just a bad look.

Turkey Overall not bad. I'm not a huge fan of the traditional Turkish style of singing, it's too far back in the throat for my taste, so this one doesn't vibe with me. The English lyrics are also especially clumsy here. But there's nothing glaringly bad about this song.

Malta The appeal of this is mostly in seeing little baby Ira Losco. I super enjoyed her 2016 entry and ngl I'm a little let down by this? It just feels empty, there isn't that much going on and while simplicity is great for some Eurovision songs it just doesn't work here.

Romania I've found one of my least favorites, I think. The singers blend well together and that's about the only good thing I have to say for this song.

Slovenia This is nice. Idk, it's nice to see a drag queen in early-aughts ESC that isn't being played for a joke, you know? Like Conchita was taken seriously in 2014 but before that... nah. So this is nice to see. I also appreciated the female backing singers in their sailor suits. Good vibes all around.

Latvia Sooooo visually appealing! Not just because of the quickchanges or because Marie N is hot (although her in the white suit and little hat is INCREDIBLY gender), but just the overall staging and choreography was great here. I'm not a huge fan of the song or the vocals but Marie is just such a performer that I can totally get why this won.

Lithuania Uncertain what Lithuania was aiming for here. It's certainly wholesome. But there isn't much more I can say about it without being plainly mean about this guy's vocal abilities.

Thoughts after watching I really had a hard time with this one, as evidenced by my having NO comments about the hosting and literally taking months to watch the votes. I don't know if it was just the audio quality or the hosts or whatever but I do think that part of it was that I had the misfortune to watch it with Terry Wogan commentary. God I hate him.

Who knows when you'll get 2001 from me (if anyone even reads these!) but idk. Eventually. There may also be a 2021 review. [shrug]

This is from the “give me 1 sentence and I’ll write 5 more” tumblr game from 6 (?) weeks ago that I've been sitting on for ages because I'm so rusty at writing the fic just didn't feel right. But today I heard it was @lire-casander‘s birthday so I took another look and decided to post it! Happy birthday! 🎂

Summary: Malex in a nebulous not so far away future, finding their way back. Warning: Mentions of injuries from a tussle (not Malex).

It is still dark outside when he opens his eyes.

It takes Michael a second to register what has woken him. Somehow he knows there has been a knock on the door of his airstream, though one too light to wake him -- at least not absent the pull of something else.

By the time a louder knock follows, Michael is already out of bed.

“Alex?” Michael says, alarmed when he opens the door -- not surprised that it’s Alex, but by the state he is in when the light from the airstream washes over him. “What the hell happened? Are you okay?”

Alex looks roughed up, with an eye that will clearly bruise, a cut on his cheek, and a split lip.

Alex sighs. “I got into a tussle.”

Anger flares in Michael. “Fuck, I’m gonna--”

“No, you’re not,” Alex says calmly, putting a hand up to halt him.

“Damnit Alex, we decided not to go to him. It was too risky,” Michael says, sounding very concerned, trying not to scold.

“You’re not the boss of me, and the risk you were calculating didn’t involve a fist fight anyways. Besides, turns out it was worth it. I got the info we need.”

“Alex--”

“It’s just my face.”

“Just-- Did he sucker punch you??”

Alex raises an eyebrow. “Please, you know it’s not that easy to get the jump on me.”

“But--”

“I’ll tell you about it after you fix me up, yeah?” Alex says hopefully, his expression softening.

“Yeah, of course, yeah,” Michael agrees, rubbing the back of his neck, starting to exit the airstream.

“What are you doing?” Alex asks, not moving out of Michael’s path.

“We’ll go see Max. He’s gotten really good at healing,” Michael explains proudly. “Or did you want me to take you to Kyle?”

Alex’s eyes flick away and then back. “Actually, I heard that next on your power-expansion list was healing. Thought this was a good chance for you to practice.”

Michael looks surprised, “I--I can’t make you my guinea pig. Max has been explaining it to me but that’s all.”

“I’m already hurt. What’s the worst that could happen?” Alex tries.

“I don’t know, I could accidentally do the reverse and kill you?” Michael says heavily. “We should go to Max.”

“Nah, I trust you,” Alex assures him.

“That’s not the point,” Michael says softly.

“Look, I feel like crap, and I want you to fix me up, whether that’s with your magic hands or your bandaids and gauze. I just--” Alex pauses and breathes, looking down and shuffling his feet awkwardly. “Ah, I’m sorry. I show up on your doorstep demanding your help--”

“Don’t worry about it. I owe you a few,” Michael smirks warmly, waving Alex inside.

Alex’s face falls.

“Just an expression,” Michael clarifies, but Alex doesn’t look convinced. “There are no agendas between us. I know that,” Michael continues quietly but firmly. “Just-- inside, please?”

Alex takes a deep breath and enters; warmth, and the smell of rain, immediately surround him.

“Come here?” Michael invites, and Alex is quickly folding into Michael’s gentle embrace.

Alex lets out a relieved sigh, feeling settled in the safe and quiet. Michael isn’t.

“You’re shaking,” Alex observes.

“Someone hurt you.”

“And you’re going to make it better,” Alex says, pulling back from the hug to look at Michael.

“Sit,” Michael says, letting Alex go.

Alex sits himself on the bed, and Michael joins him.

“You do realize this is going to leave big shimmery streaks on your face?” Michael reminds him, and the air seems lighter.

“I know,” Alex shrugs, “But I’m going to be in the bunker working on our new lead for a few days, only seeing the alien in-crowd anyways.”

“If you’re sure.”

“I’m sure. And a little shimmer is fun, right?” Alex teases shyly.

Michael grins and nods, but then takes a shaky breath. “Before we do this, I need to say something.” He stops and squeezes Alex’s hand in his when he senses him tense. “A good thing, if you-- well-- something I’ve been trying to work up the courage to say.”

“Okay,” Alex says, not bracing himself, trusting Michael.

Michael rushes the words out. “I know we’ve convinced ourselves that we aren’t meant to be, and that it’s fine. But I’m an idiot. And I think you might be an idiot too. So--”

“Excuse me?” Alex asks, face an unreadable mix, but Michael thinks he sees hope there.

“Shit-- I didn’t mean-- I just mean it’s not fine. I can’t lie to myself -- or you -- anymore. It takes too much energy. It hurts too much.”

“Ah… there was a time not long ago when the lie was easier,” Alex says knowingly, for the same applies to him.

“I’ve changed.”

“Me too.”

“And things have changed.”

“Some haven’t,” Alex says, a sly, cautious smile threatening to form.

“Since we were seventeen, huh?” Michael teases boldly.

In answer, Alex leans in and kisses him, soft but eager. It’s been many months since their lips have touched. Michael kisses back and the world stops spinning--

“Ow!” Alex yelps softly.

“Sorry!” Michael says, pulling back.

“It’s okay,” Alex says gently, touching his lip, “Just forgot for a minute about everything… except you.”

There’s a strange familiarity to the line -- Michael has to catch his breath before he speaks. “Any-- Anyways, I just wanted to say all of that before you got influenced by my handprint. If it works, that is.”

Michael raises his hand to Alex’s face, cupping his jaw.

“Wait,” Alex says, while at the same time placing his hand over Michael’s, signaling a pause rather than a change of heart.

“Yeah?”

“Can I stay here tonight?” Alex asks cautiously, “Just to sleep.”

Michael grins and nods. "Yeah, 'course."

“Okay, beam me up.”

Michael huffs a laugh, then turns very serious. Alex closes his eyes and winces when Michael's thumb touches below his eye, sweeping across, trying to summon the healing power into his thumb.

“Max says I have to think about love.”

Alex smiles at that, and immediately Michael’s hand warms into a glow to match.

Alex gasps softly.

Michael breathes a whoa.

“It’s working,” Alex whispers reverently.

Michael just gulps in awe as he paints over Alex’s cheek, then brushes lightly over his lip, until there are no more cuts and bruises visible, and Michael’s hand comes to rest on Alex’s neck, cradling his jaw.

Alex makes a move closer, and Michael raises a finger against his lips.

“Do you feel weird? The handprint, I mean.”

“I feel just right,” Alex purrs.

“Mhmm,” Michael murmurs, “Me too.”

i’m liking tfatws, the second episode was veryyy intense imo but WANDAVISION IS SO GOOD😭 i knew it was going to be my favorite from the really old trailer but it’s really good and i promise it’s not just sitcoms, girl especially cuz you’ll have all the episodes already out- we were having to wait every week😭 BUT ITS SO GOOD I PROMISE HDJSHDJSH lmao reading this i was like “i- the episodes aren’t an hour long” but i feel that, it’s hard for me to watch tfatws bc they are an hour long and i’m like 😐 but wandavision episodes are less than 30mins bc I KID YOU NOT they have the damn 10 MINUTE CREDITS DHDJSJ no i don’t think we’ve talked about this b4 lol but it all depends on the series for me. i binged love island uk in less than a week bc i was so invested and LITERALLY LOVE IT but uh those episodes are like an hour and a half, but say i was binging tfatws (it’s so hard to type that ohmigosh) i honestly would not be able to do it bc of the intensity (you may be like what intensity but if you’ve seen episode 2 by the time you’re reading this.......... isaiah and the scene afterwards is all i have to say, esp me being black it was so tough :/)

about the concerts, thanks 🥰🥰 that’s so sweet what you did for your mom too, it’s nice seeing them so happy like 🥲 awh AND GLEE IS AND WAS MY LIFE FOR A V V LONG TIME, i’ve been meaning to rewatch it for the longest time lmaooo but i’m just so lazy and it’s such a commitment... i’ll have to get emotionally involved again and idk if i want that rn. but i have a friend on instagram and she runs a glee fan account and it’s such a big part of her life i really don’t think i could ever be THAT obsessed with something. like another one of my friends loves tom holland so much that she changed her mom’s name in her phone to what tom’s mom’s name is in his phone (that was confusing lol) and obviously i’m not judging them AT ALL, it just couldn’t be me lol

Dkdkdkdj so @ Rindfleischet.. blah bla. so it‘s basically just loads of individual words put together/connected and that‘s a really big part of german. so yesterday i had an online Einführungsveranstaltung for uni (like it was a zoom meeting where they just talked about general stuff about the uni and i was really anxious before, idk why, but it turned out absolutely fine so) and that words consists of the two words Einführung (introduction) and Veranstaltung (event) which are also two individual words but you can make a new word (Einführungsveranstaltung, so in english that‘s basically “introduction event“ lmao) by combining those two words. there are obviously some rules like you can‘t just combine random words in a random order but you can basically make infinite words (technically). for example (i feel like i‘m teaching a class just skip this if you don’t care 🙃🙃🙃djdjdkdlns)

for example i could say Einführungsveranstaltungsteilnehmer (which is not underlined with red by tumblr because it is a grammatically correct compound word (i think that‘s what they‘re called?)) which is the words introduction + event + participant, so that word just means “participant of an introductory event“ but instead it‘s one word? i hope that makes sense? dkdkkdksks i mean it makes sense in german but idk if it makes sense to you cause idk if i‘m explaining it very well lmao,

Okay so skdjdjdjddhhddhdhjsk... I used to watch all of my series in German (like H2O) bc obviously they were on german tv so they were german- and i knew that most of these actors i saw on tv were american and i was always SO fascinated that they all learned german for this show??? I haven’t watched the OG Teen Titans yet. Sue me. I wasn’t allowed to watch cartoons as a kid so I’m playing catch-up here. As usual, spoilers and cursing under the cut! Also. apologies for the short sentences, it was like 3 am.

[I know it’s stupid to say this about an antagonist from a kids show vs two YA/Adult shows but like?? Titans Slade had the Motive, and Arrow Slade was Deep. In my defense here, I’m only on Ep 1, I’m sure he gets more interesting as the show progresses.

My non-sleep deprived rating? 9/10. Points off for melodrama but points on for nostalgia and attention grabbing. I’m not really into kids shows so I did my best to be fair despite that. Personally I think it’s a little much on the fighting especially for a pilot and it definitely seemed a little bit rushed. But, the animation is fun, I love the way each character is distinctive in costume and personality.

Keep in mind I prefer watching things with writing/pacing like Arrow, The Flash, Captain America: The Winter Soldier, and the new Titans TV show and all of my ratings are going to be skewed based on a preference for stronger and darker material.

With that in mind, I did enjoy the episode and I do want to continue watching. I think if I had watched this as a 10-11 year old, it would’ve been amazing.]

some thots on M. Night’s ‘The Village’

this is...too long. spoilers obv

This isn’t college so instead of a coherent essay I’m serving up some disjointed paragraphs. I expect literally no one to read this. Please don’t. Ok, here we go.

At first I thought the dialogue was just awful, stilted, and impossible to work with, judging by the terrible performances of several otherwise decent actors, but the reveal that we’re in modern times makes it...kind of make sense. If you squint. They’re all modern people doing their best (and failing) to imitate the speech of last century. At least that’s what I tell myself to keep from fixating on the more obvious conclusion that M. Night badly needed some help with the script that he apparently didn’t get.

The twist was weak as fuck. If there had to be a twist at all, it should have been that the monsters are real, the outside world is modern, and has fenced off this section of forest to keep the monsters inside. A splinter group of humans, left inside for whatever reason, figured out how to coexist with the monsters but are stuck in the past. It can be set in the present day and the monsters can be real, ok? Instead, we got “the monsters are fake social control and it was the present day the whole time!! the buildup was for nothing!! haha you got shaggy-dog’d!!” If I had been at the premiere I would have booed. Roger Ebert really was right that the whole “fake monsters / modern times” twist was barely better than “it was all a dream.” Right up until the twist was revealed I desperately hoped that the monsters were real, because they had been handled so well so far, and that some original, spooky secrets about the monsters and the village would come to light. But instead we got that Margaret Peterson Haddix book.

Slapping a twist ending on this movie really did it a disservice, because there’s no time to explain anything. Instead of leading us on with the horror premise, we could have established that the monsters are fake and it’s 2004 early on, and we could’ve had a cool hybrid horror-drama about...idk, politics or something.

I have a pet theory that Walker killed both his father and the business partner and framed the business partner so he could inherit the money, finance his perfect society, and satisfy his megalomania by being the cult leader he was born to be. He was doing the racist tumblr pastoral fantasy before it was cool. Modern life is too corrupting, let’s all go back to a simpler time when the white people lived together in harmony on huge swathes of stolen land. No more cities, no more towns, only the racially homogenous village.

The one thing I liked about the movie, I loved. I love love loved the way the camera only gives you glimpses of the “monsters,” a blurry image here, a flash of red cloak there, the scratches too high for any animal to make, the way you sometimes only see the back of someone’s head as they look in the direction of the monster. It was the perfect amount of showing us something really is there and giving us the vaguest idea of what it looks like, but holding back so that our imaginations still do most of the work. I eat that shit up tbh.

It honestly kind of felt like this movie started out with the intention of the monsters being real, but M. Night couldn’t deliver on all the interesting shit he had made up (why do the monsters wear cloaks? why do they skin animals and leave the meat? what’s with the red marks on doors? why is yellow the safe color? how was the truce made in the first place?) and hand-waved it all away with his flaccid twist. BOOOO!!!

I’m not even sure if this movie had any themes. The only one I could tease out is like... the dangers of overprotectiveness / romanticizing the past? Motherfuckers tried to create a perfect, peaceful, crime-free society, but I bet all the kids that grew up in the village are pretty traumatised by the constant threat of the seemingly very-real monsters they’ve been allowed to catch glimpses of. The monsters are only referred to as “Those We Do Not Speak Of,” adding to their potency (see: Voldemort). When monsters come to town, the people hide in their cellars, and there’s a throwaway line about drills, indicating they regularly practice their hidey-hole procedure like it’s the fucking cold war. The strain of the uneasy “truce” with the monsters must always be in the backs of their minds. They have the blazing border around them as a constant reminder. They obsessively shun the color red (which they only call “The Forbidden Color” or some shit) bc it attracts the monsters (honestly why did the “elders” make up that one? just another wacky form of social control? wtf. wait. is this all actually a cold war metaphor?????). Those that have only ever known the village are probably stressed af, I bet everyone has night terrors.

Well, if they ever attempt a sequel, the outline is already in place. The village is unsustainable. How will they choose who inherits the truth and the costume-wearing duties? The money financing the protection of the land can’t last forever, what happens when it runs out?

On a final note, I have to say that Adrien Brody’s character Noah seems extremely ableist. The fact that evil still found its way inside their “perfect” society, in the form of developmentally disabled Noah who stabs Lucius out of jealousy over Ivy, doesn’t sit right with me at all. If the intended message with that was “evil...uh...finds a way,” wouldn’t a non-disabled jealous rival character have served the purpose even better? Maybe M. Night was (extremely clumsily) trying to make the character of Noah fit in with the “dangers of overprotectiveness” theme by saying “look, if they lived in modern society he could have gotten proper help!” (which would be dumb tbh bc that ignores how badly disabled people are treated). Here’s a blog post by an actual disabled person that looks at ableism in several Shyamalan films.

Anyway, this could have been a very good straightforward horror movie, or a mystery/drama/thriller, and either format could have been used to tell a story about...idk social control or something, but instead we got a maddeningly unsatisfying half-baked waste of ideas. Maybe in 20 years it’ll get a remake or a “reimagining.” I rate it a generous 2.5/5 stars, not so much for what it was, but *sigh* what it could have been.

T. Themes

Themes from “The Burden of Rule”

1. Change:

How things have changed after the war, and how things have not.

Larsa wishes to change Archades into a society that is more understanding and loving towards foreigners in a post-war Ivalice, and he has visions of a multicultural Archades in the future. He wants to take the focus off of gaining status and reputation, and he wishes to decrease the class divide. (BASICALLY, Larsa wants to change everything. What an ambitious boy.)

Larsa is very different from Emperors of the past, and the Senate is having difficulty adjusting to the “radical” ways of their new emperor.

Penelo’s entire world changes when she is appointed Ambassador, of course.

2. Truth and Deceit:

Archades is a city of curious knowledge-seekers, and Penelo finds herself influenced by them, developing an investigative nature.

The news businesses twist the truth in favour of their own interests, as well as the interests of their respective districts. Rumours are spread about Larsa.

Penelo learns the balancing act of giving out the right info, while keeping the info that others can use to hurt her.

Penelo learns unspeakable truths that were hidden for a long time.

3. Unity and Division:

“In cooperation lies our hope.” – Larsa Ferrinas Solidor

Larsa wishes to strengthen Archadia’s relationship with Dalmasca, and Rozarria.

The formation of the new district, called Orbon, aka the reconstructed Old Archades, has reunited the “vulgars” of Old Archades with their loved ones in the city.

After spending the last few years isolated, Larsa finally reunites with his friends in Dalmasca, and eventually others.

The ever growing divide between Larsa’s ideals, and the Senate.

Archades is divided into districts, and each district has different opinions on Larsa. Some are heavily against, some are in support, and some are mixed (much like swing states in the U.S!) Because of this, when word gets out about Larsa’s bill, all hell breaks loose, and Larsa feels AWFUL for dividing his city.

4. Identity and Belonging:

Larsa struggles with his identity as a leader, whether he should compromise, or follow what he feels is right. As the last remaining member of House Solidor, there is no family to follow anymore, and he must make a new place for himself in Archadia’s history.

Penelo has always seen herself on the streets of Rabanastre, struggling to make ends meet, dancing with her troupe until she can dance no more. But now that the war is over, and the years have passed, Penelo finds herself at a loss for what to fight for, and grows bored with only providing entertainment. She looks to the mysterious and powerful world of government and politics in search of a purpose beyond her current understanding.

5. The Importance of Self-Value:

Larsa overworks himself in pursuit of his goals, neglecting both his mental and physical health, and Penelo will point out to him many times that he needs to remember to take care of himself.

Larsa and Penelo both feel like they are not good enough/ not worthy of their positions of power, and they each help the other realise that they are wrong.

Themes of “The Mediator”

2. Finding similarities with someone you least expect. Is that a theme? Something about bringing together two people from different nations… unity? Peace???

U. Any stories that took an abrupt u-turn from where you thought they were going?

THE BURDEN OF RULE, JFC. It was originally about the liberation of Landis, what a stupid idea right??? Lolololol But now it makes sense why in the current incarnation of the story, I have crammed many Landisians in Archades’ new district, Orbon. Some of it had to survive - too bad my lesbian Landisian judge and her sky pirate/terrorist brother didn’t. I liked them. Maybe I can cram them into the story as minor characters Penelo gets info from. IDK.

OH. AND PENELO WASN’T AN AMBASSADOR. WTF WHEN DID I PUT THAT IN??? It’s been three years, man.

At some point I played with the idea of an impeachment storyline. I still do. I just love the idea of the Senate putting Larsa on trial for something. I get delicious shivers, and I think about the scene in FFX when Yuna is on trial.

Some things have remained: the decline in Larsa’s mental health, the panic attack scene, and Larsa vs. the Senate. Wow I am shameless when it comes to giving out spoilers.

V. Which story was the most viscerally pleasing to write? Tell us your narrative kinks.

The Burden of Rule, mainly because I’VE BEEN WAITING THREE YEARS TO FINALLY DO IT.

ANYWAYS… I’m a dialogue slut, so narrative has never been my thing. Butttt, if I had to choose, it would be INTERIOR MONOLOGUES. That’s the good shit. Any scene where Larsa is thinking about how inferior he is/ how much he hates himself, just makes me feel so satisfied.

Things like:

Leave it to him to bore a girl to sleep.

AND:

“My Lord,” he warned, and Larsa turned his head to face him, “I advise we depart shortly if you wish to arrive before nightfall.”

Time is running short.

“She will be here; I am sure of it.” Larsa succeeded in keeping his voice calm, despite his increased heart rate.

Why must Basch always worry? Larsa did not need someone else to worry for him.

He directed his gaze downward so that all he could see was the floor, his own crossed arms, and his chest. He became increasingly aware of how shallow his breathing had become. Perhaps he could try to slow it down…

But there was no time for that.

She will not show.

Of course not; why would she? No one as pure as her would taint themselves in the twisted world of Archadian politics willingly. Penelo was no fool, unlike him. He was the only fool here, to think for a second that she would actually show up. The war may be over, but he was sure Penelo’s memories of it remained. He would not blame her if she wanted nothing to do with this…

Z. If you could choose one work and immediately finish it, what would it be? How would you end it?

· Like… with no effort? Like POOF, here’s your story? If that’s that case, then “Discreet” for sure. Ya’ll don’t know about “Discreet.” It was a sexy oneshot I made in my head about Penelo meeting a middle aged Dalmascan/Archadian woman who owns the only sex shop in Archades. (I headcanoned Archades as having a culture where sex is a dirty subject no one with respect talks about openly. Kids are taught abstinent-only bullshit. That kinda shit. The sex shop is in the new district, tucked away in some dark corner lol. Oh yeah, and it’s called “Discreet” lololol) So this had newly established Larnelo, and Penelo asks sex shop lady for advice on how to seduce an Archadian man, because Penelo is thirsty and Larsa is shy as hell and is not getting the hint. Oh yeah, and he might be demisexual. Obviously, this was gonna be femdom. Cause I love me some femdom.

AND I ACTUALLY STARTED WRITING IT, but… much like Larsa… I am shy. When it comes to. The sexy. >___>
