1v1 me | Bird Box Review

bird box wasnt a bad movie. i enjoyed it. i dont know why its getting so much hate the way it is. idc fight me in the wildy noobs

when it first started, i really didnt like the two female characters for some reason. something about them bothered me but i grew to find a connection with whatever that girl’s name is that was having the baby during the start of the movie.

some people complained she would hate Olympia since shes kind of a misanthrope but i feel like she found her annoying but at the same time she felt bad for the girl. she could tell the girl had a hard time connecting with people and was just an immature young girl in over her head and she felt bad for her because she was just a young girl more terrified than the other cast members and desperate to find someone to connect with, conjuring the image or idea that the girl was probably lonely and desperate for connection before all this. just because you’re a misanthrope doesn’t mean you’re incapable of compassion and empathy? iono i didn’t see it as big of a problem as other people did. but, i gotta admit, Olympia was a fucking idiot and I probably would have yelled the same line “ARE YOU A SIMPLETON??” too in the same situation lmao

it essentially takes the idea of the happening and does it better and some of the acting? its pretty good.

yes, some of the characters are idiots but i feel like if it were to happen in real life, there would be idiots making the same kind of dumb ass mistakes

i don’t mind the way they did the timeline thing, i don’t see why thats a problem for so many people really

some of the acting was actually better than i thought it would be

the movie isn’t amazing but it isn’t a complete shit show like the happening or anything

i’ve watched a couple of reviews and the things people complained about were just kind of silly to me

i don’t know, maybe im just good at zoning out and suspending my disbelief completely when it comes to movie whereas other people just kinda sit there waiting for things to cherry pick and complain about?

there were a couple of moments in the movie where i was like okay... that shouldn’t have been that easy for them to pull off but i have a feeling that came about from trying to not let the movie drag on for too long.

yes, there are parts that could have been explored more and i wish they did too myself, but it wasn’t a huge deal to me. People also seem to be going crazy about not knowing what the threat was and I don’t get this. It’s pretty much laid out by the supermarket guy. I feel like he was right although I got more a lovecraftian old god vibe from all of it, he was on the right track I think. (this makes me like the movie a little more because im a slut for lovecraft shit tbh) Either way, it was obviously supposed to be some kind of demon or occult deity of some sort. I honestly don’t get why people are having a hard time getting this.

one part that really bugged me was when tom stayed back and got (spoiler) killed for doing so. like the dude could have easily ran with the kids and the girl, that was a kind of stupid decision

also, what was it with Tom and doors? he has to open EVERY DOOR but not the one damn important door that mattered. The one to let John Malkovich in when there was a crazy loon running free whacking people leading to Tom being smacked in the back of the head and knocked out. Kinda stupid.

so, yes, there were some stupid decisions in the movie but I could easily just go “alright, whatever” about it and move on through the movie. i found it entertaining, it does deserve some of the criticism ofc and its far from perfect

on another note, i really like the direction horror movies are taking lately. bird box, the happening (though, poorly executed of course.), a quiet place. It seems writers are starting to experiment with the genre more and come up with some pretty interesting and fun ideas and i hope it continues.

Sure, theese movies aren’t really “scary” in the usual horror movie trope sense, but horror movies don’t have to always be gorey slasher films and ghost stories or whatever

Take the ring for example. It definitely stood out in the time compared to other horror movies. People would often say “it was creepy, not scary.” and honestly? those kinds of horror movies are better if you ask me.

So yeah, I had a couple of “that was pretty dumb” moments, but I found it entertaining. It wasn’t a complete shit show like some people seem to be making it out to be. but it’s also not amazing or anything like that. And, honestly, i’m happy the movie was made. Because it pushes these unique ideas out there more and hopefully we see more conceptually unique and different movies like this and hopefully it doesn’t become a played out cliche like slasher films have become.
