hey professor! I've been following your blog for quite a while now, and I'm happy to report that your entries have helped me quite a lot here in unova. I have a more personal question, coming from someone who's been around for a while: can you tell us a little more about your current life? how did you come to this career? what pokemon are with you right now and why? 🥰
I’m very happy to hear that!
My current life mostly involves spending about six hours every day hiking through the forested parts of the wild area, about four days a week. Sometimes I camp for a few days on end. I use GPS to track Grookey by the tracking bands we attached to their wrists five months ago. The Grookey in this part of Galar are old enough to start moving independently of their mothers, and we researchers want to get a better understanding of their dispersal patterns at this crucial life stage. The decisions they make regarding feeding grounds, nesting areas, and even where they choose to play make big impacts on their whole lives. Hopefully our findings help the Galar government better protect the species!
Whenever I’m off the clock, I try my best to explore and travel as much as possible, but I’ll admit I mostly catch up on sleep and spend time training my Pokémon. I feel extra proud of myself if I manage to finish logging all my data and sending updates to my superiors.
Speaking of my Pokémon, I have all three of them traveling with me: Peanut the Primeape, my Monferno, and Asteri the Luxio. They each get to help me in the field and really love meeting new friends! Which is a good thing, because we’re stopped for photos quite frequently since many native Galarians have never seen some of my Pokémon before.
I got started in research when Professor Rowan contacted Maylene’s Gym looking for someone familiar with simian Pokémon as he was having a difficult time helping a Chimchar evolve. Luckily my experience with my (at the time) Mankey, as well as my biology degree, qualified me to join his team! It was supposed to be a temporary arrangement, but when the project ended I applied to formally join his lab. A lot of life revolves around primatology!
