ai is just so fucking bleak man it makes me want to end it all...

taking everything joyful about life... everything i ever wanted or loved or hoped for... and not just that, everything else too... no job is safe... the only way i can go on is to pretend it doesnt exist and just keep creating and trying as we always have done it haha but meanwhile it just keeps getting worse and im filled with sickening dread... the only hope I have is that people will continue to stick together and protect each other even as ai tries to destroy and take everything from us and our identity and our joy sorry to sound poetic and pretentious but i just need to get the vent out. its bleak man.

quick moment to enjoy how fucking good the ofmd writers are, because i just spotted a perfect throughline i never put into words before

they literally gave us a three act play (okay it’s just that it’s done in three scenes, but leave me alone i liked the dramatic setup) leading up to izzy going nuclear that establishes the stakes and his internal motivation

first scene

- the crew have already handled all the jobs that currently need doing; izzy can’t even come up with a busywork task and spits on the deck for lack of anything else he can apparently think of, then has to go grab lucius because ed wants/needs lucius to help him with the stuff he’s into pursuing right now, not izzy

the second scene

- ed sings his song, and establishes he wants everyone to call him ed from now on (not just stede! at least when it was just stede that was a matter of izzy’s rightful place/privileges being ‘stolen’. ed’s starting to upend the system at this point, not just change who gets what) and then asks why they're even being pirates at all

the third scene

- which izzy is not even IN, because these writers have such a sense of storytelling economy that i am always lowkey mad about it. it’s the stede scene in the bar, when he brings izzy up (and refers to him as blackbeard’s right hand while he does it) and tries to tell the story of their duel and the men get all sheryl. sheryl! i. do. not. care. about it.

then we head over into izzy going nuclear, after he looks at another one of the caricatures of ed from stede’s library and with the story having established that if ed steps away from blackbeard, izzy loses the foundation on which he has built his life: being blackbeard’s right hand man (personal/professional)

those assholes in the bar don’t even care enough about him to bother trying to give him credit for ed’s legend! they do not even react (or respond) to the mention of his name, just redirect back into asking what ed’s like.

if ed changes, izzy’s going to have to change. which sucks for him, but is the natural consequence of building your identity around somebody else staying exactly as they are: once they change, you have to change too

god, this team is just so good. obviously izzy tells himself he knows best and makes up whatever internal excuses can fill the picklejar he built in his soul, but the show is like: here’s the throughline, here’s what izzy stands to lose, and then we watch him lose his shit on ed because he’s an asshole who wouldn’t know how to communicate his feelings in an honest and direct manner if he TRIED to even pin down what those feelings are, and he really does not try

#izzy all I AM NOT A WELL MAN EDWARD! BE THE BLACKBEARD WHO I BUILT MY LIFE AROUND AGAIN OR SO HELP ME #I CANNOT HANDLE THE IDEA OF STARTING OVER OR NOT HAVING WHAT I HAVE NOW AND I FEEL ENTITLED TO NOT #SO JUST... GET WITH IIIIIIT #all under his ohhhh i make ed content shield like sir. not once have you done that. not once ever #you suited his needs because ed used to play by some p ugly and transactional rules too #but content??? ohhhh iz #you gotta know someone to make them content #and ed never let you in which is on him #but you're dumb as a rock when it comes to emotions and you never noticed when he TRIED #and that's on you

i was thinking about how i imagine the play costumes to be 'classical' dresses & tunics instead of the canonical sci-fi inspired costumes and realized: what's stopping me from re-imagining the halloween costumes too?

i mean it's completely out of character for my version of jake to wear a Prince costume. nope. he actually goes as a prince except it's a half-assed version of the british royal family's military uniform or something. one of his father's suits with a piece of cloth lying around thrown over it like a sash etc etc. christine is still an 'authentic renaissance princess' or whatever it was she said and she paid a lot of attention to making it historically accurate and detailed. so they are technically matching, yes, but the time periods are completely off and you can clearly tell the difference in the amount of effort made. more symbolic of their relationship and a more accurate reflection of their characters.

i was also thinking if brooke and chloe could be an angel & a demon but is that too obvious?? that post i made about how brooke and chloe mirror each other- brooke's way of protecting herself was becoming the nice girl and chloe's was becoming the bitch. and demons are fallen angels so the metaphor is right there. anyway if so, i want brooke to have a halo headband and fluffy wings and everything while chloe's just in a tight black dress and some red makeup claiming it's a costume. (she does have a scarf that falls past her shoulders in two parts so her shadow looks like she has wings but it was unintentional on her part. something something chloe's wings only being visible through her shadow)

rich....... honestly i have no idea. i feel like he'd have a really low-effort costume bc he wants to give the impression he doesn't care about this. he doesn't care about anything. aaaand,,, rat frequently comparing him to icarus has really been burned into my mind so. greek chiton and laurel wreath it is. he doesn't say he's going as a specific greek figure though + the chiton is just a bedsheet over a shirt and jeans. but later on it catches fire starting at the hem and it almost looks like flaming wings when it spreads out behind him.

#because sorry but i really hate the prince joke it just. makes no sense to me #i'm still debating on the others. jeremy being a cyborg is nice bc the Popular Kids are all in old-fashioned/fantasy costumes #and jeremy's a robot. he can't really fit in with them. he tried so hard but he can't #but if he is a cyborg i'm definitely scrapping the ugly spandex he's gonna be in some sort of very faintly shimmery dark blue blazer idk #it looks black under the dim light for the most of the party until he's sitting on the couch with christine #and the light from the jack-o-lantern is warm and his blazer glows blue to match christine's blue gown #i have too many thoughts about halloween.#bmc #be more chill #jake dillinger #christine canigula #brooke lohst #chloe valentine #rich goranski

Bit pricey but i think american duchess has some boots that go up to like 19-20 inch calf circumference?

oh yeah i've seen their bicycle boots around a lot! the fact that it was leather + textile on the upper made me hesitate though, i'm still holding out for just leather... but it's been in the back of my mind

#sovo answers #another thing that makes me hesitate is that they claim to have a calf range of 14-20... in a *single boot*#of course this means that the closer you get to 20 the more those boots will visibly not fit you correctly #i recently tried a pair of boots that are of a similar lace-up + belt on top design that advertised a large calf range #and it looks. so ugly if you're at the max end of the range. it looks like you're bursting out of the shoe #& i was like. would i really wanna live like this... with expensive boots that'll remind me of how poorly they fit every time i lace them..#it'd do the same mental damage as buying a dress 2 sizes too small in the hopes that i'd make myself fit someday

If Steven Knight approached me with that sorry excuse of a hairstyle? If I were no. 1 on the billing sheet for playing Thomas Thee Blinder, I simply would’ve pulled the most toxic melodramatics in the entire history of entertainment & Hollywood if it meant I wasn’t walking around look like an absolute fool with a two-centimeter tuft of hair at the top of my otherwise baby-bald scalp. it simply could not and would not have been me.

ugly betty rant

Pro Betty seasons 1 and 2. Anti Betty season 3 and 4. Betty 3 had more attitude and was more self-centered. She acts confused as to why Gio could possibly hate her after breaking his heart. She tells Mark to admit cheating on Cliff but refuses to do it herself with Matt. In season 4 she gets mad at Matt for being hurt about her cheating on him. I do not blame both of them one bit. I like Betty with Daniel better because she kinda becomes him. I blame the writer strike for the inconsistency of her character.

See I actually think it’s good that Betty got more attitude and got self-centered. She needed to stop letting everyone walk all over her! And she was barely 25 or 26 by the time the show ended—your early 20s are FOR being self-centered so you can figure yourself out. And I will never feel sorry for Matt because I straight up hate him lmao. I never liked him, even when he was more doofy in season 3. He definitely did have a right to feel hurt for Betty kissing Henry and then not telling him. He did NOT have a right to take that out on her at work. Especially because he took the job specifically to do that! And I think it does actually make sense for Betty to hide that from him, because Hilda was pushing her not to and Betty was always really influenced by Hilda. Sometimes she was influenced by trying not to be like Hilda but when it came to boyfriend stuff Betty trusted Hilda. That’s a big part of why she took Walter back and why the whole Atlantic City/hotel thing happened.

There is definitely sooo much inconsistency though and sadly I think only some of it can be attributed to the writers’ strike. I think a lot of it was just bad writing tbh. It almost felt like the writers all had different things they wanted from the show and everyone was writing their own version lol.

Matt’s entire season 4 arc makes zero sense. He was getting out of publishing because he lost his passion for it, but he found his passion again to torture Betty. Then there’s an entire episode of him with a new date and Betty realizing she can be alone and she needed to move on from him. And then they realize they still have feelings for each other and get back together? She has her pregnancy scare and they are so not on the same page there but they don’t break up. Then we get an entire episode about how she thinks he’s so annoying…but they still stay together?? And Betty, who has always been loud and exuberant, says her passion is quieter and more hidden? Like okay I guess. And then Matt randomly decides to drop everything and leave and he’s mentioned like one more time and then never again despite how long they dated. I think the cancelation news was sometime in there and probably contributed but what was going ON in that writers’ room???

#ugly Betty #I really wish Betty had been single for season 4 #she could’ve tried dating around and not getting serious with anyone #we still could’ve had the Zachary boule storyline #but she was in a serious relationship for 90% of the show #despite the end of season 2 being her realizing she needs to find out who she is on her own #I guess she did that in 3 weeks lol #the Gio thing I think was more because Betty didn’t see them as really dating #Gio had feelings for her for so long and was rightfully hurt #but Betty was always kind of hypocritical and self-righteous and she always wanted everyone to like her #so she just bulldozed his feelings and tried to force him to be her friend #I really liked that he gave her that reality check and then Claire does too with Matt’s mom #she had to learn that not only was Gio fully valid in his feelings but also that she can’t force anyone to like her #and she needs to keep living her life even if someone doesn’t want to be her friend #honestly season 4 as a whole makes very little sense
