Some of these people out there stating that Dr. Hughes was wrong to use gendered language to describe the relationship between two people who go by he/him and she/her have only seen coverage of Hughes’ cross exam.

The literally first thing to form out of Depp’s lawyer’s mouth is like “hey, you use gendered terms to broadly describe intimate partner violence, right?” To which Hughes responds “No, I’m specifically referencing this relationship where I identify Heard as the victim.” Like, it was clear that during her direct she was talking just about the relationship at hand in the case before her. The thing that really gets me is that Hughes refers to notes taken by Heard’s prior therapist, depositions by multiple witnesses, Depp’s testimony, Heard’s reporting, interviews with said therapists, her own tests, and Dr. Curry’s to come to the conclusion Heard is the victim. On the other hand, Dr. Curry only talks about her tests and one or two instances that supported her claim.

I don’t know about anyone else, but the breath and range of the psychological evaluation done by Dr. Hughes is what I expected when Dr. Curry took the stand, but all I got was bare minimum effort on the part of Curry. I mean Dr. Curry’s evaluation looked impressive but it lacked follow up evidence supporting her claims. Dr. Hughes on the other hand was able to pin point specific incidents reported to her, over arching themes of Heard’s therapy, what each therapist believed during their sessions with Heard. She even comments on how blatantly dismissive Dr. Anderson was of Heard’s severe injuries and reports of violence.

I have more faith in Dr. Hughes’ extensive examination and report and testimony than Dr. Curry.
