Fernando 2012 Chair Lore (source: me)

So I've been thinking a lot about Fernando sitting in this particular chair in the Ferrari garage in 2012 for [redacted] reasons:

Originally I just wanted to find more pictures of it for reference, and then went down a rabbit hole of 2012 pictures, trying to figure out when exactly the chair came to be. There's so many pictures of him in it, and it's so funny to me to imagine them hauling this super villain chair all around the world for him. And so now I'm obsessed with the evolution of it:

He just had this little stool, well I should say big because it somehow still manages makes him look small. Clearly not comfortable; to paraphrase @sweatyflytrap, it's not conducive to his inner Shakespeare villain monologues

The Chair Appears - Spain

He suddenly now has this, aforementioned, super villain chair. Several things, why is it like this. It looks like a sim chair almost ngl. And then the weird plexiglass support is confusing me, like where did they get that. It furthers my narrative they just had this chair that they couldn't put in a car so they put that clear bottom on it. Anyways yes good, now he has somewhere to brood

First of all it's rare to see people exploring their threesome days (despite the fact that it's so widely talked about and one of the first things people mention when discussing that period of time in their relationship, see: the cuck chair), but you tackled it so perfectly. Look, I don't know what to say, sometimes an idea takes over and coalesces in my mind and I just have to write it. And I had time so hey! I did have one hell of a writing hangover on Monday but I'm glad to hear it was worth it and that you enjoyed it! That honestly makes my day right now, I'm absolutely giddy.

You're right, we don't see a lot of them in their threesome stage but it's oft talked about! I do think the third person was often (maybe always) pretty inconsequential to them - more like a plaything than a person and a way for them to explore their sexuality together. And god I love Daniel being eager to please Armand and I love how Armand is sort of the same way (but he has a poker face so Daniel doesn't always know). They're so obsessed with each other, it kills me.

I personally love throwing Daniel and Armand at different points in their timeline and seeing how it changes how they react to things and to each other, because even a few months with them can make a huge difference. They're the same people with an intense love and attraction to one another in any time, but how they relate to each other evolves over time (as it does in any relationship!) and their situation is often so unique whether it's the chase years (who else even has that??), the Night Island Era (pre and post Daniel being turned), or even the Prince Lestat era where they've presumably been apart and had very little contact (as far as we know) for quite some time after both going through massive traumas--including one big shared one.

ANYHOW I AM RAMBLING. I just love them a lot and I find them so fascinating and I really enjoy digging into the nuances of their relationship at different points and the tiny little changes that can have on them, and how they learn about each other! It's my jam.

Thank you so much again! And as far as prompts go, I definitely get super inspired by scenarios and suggestions, even if I can't always get to them right away, so feel free to send me ideas if you come across them! I TAKE REQUESTS.

The thing about meeting in therapy is that you find out incredibly intimate things about someone before you learn any of the normal things that you would if you met them in other circumstances. I mean, look how AA meetings start, ‘Hi I’m Dave and I’m an alcoholic’. Ten seconds in and bam! You know Dave’s darkest secret, but not if he’s married or an accountant or likes quesadillas. It leads to friendships that are incredibly intense and high stakes and destroyed as fast as they were formed by the smallest betrayal. And when relationships go beyond friendship, which they absolutely tell you not to do for a million very good reasons which everyone totally ignores, they are all backwards, beginning with emotional trauma and life-changing realisations, followed by dinner and a movie. I don’t recommend it, but here we are. 

Stevie and I did not do the standard treatment centre cliche of meeting in Group, forming an instant dramatic and co-dependent relationship and shagging in the music therapy closet. Because apparently we have to be weird even among the weirdos. We were in the same group therapy session for a few weeks (because mixing addicts and anorexics and cutters and the chronically anxious is super-therapeutic and absolutely won’t lead to them all learning new ways to damage themselves) but since I mostly stared at the floor and he mostly picked the paint off the plastic chairs we’d rarely made eye contact, and the only time we spoke was when I'd handed him a cup of the truly terrible institutional tea. So we didn’t really ‘meet’ until the day we were both hiding behind the old admin building, me because that’s what I do, and him because they don’t let you smoke anywhere on site. 

I was sitting in the shade of a pillar, writing in the journal I also wasn’t supposed to have, and he’d wandered quite close before noticing me. Suddenly he spotted me and looked guilty, making a hurried attempt to hide the cigarette behind his back. I held up my book and pen to signal that I was a fellow rule-breaker. He looked relieved and continued to walk in my direction, checking over his shoulder for institutional spies. He offered me a cigarette, but I didn’t think I could manage to control a book and pen and cigarette and converse with a human all at once, so I shook my head. We stared at our shoes for a bit, and then moved on to staring at each other’s shoes (practically flirting for introverts).

“You’re Lucy?”

“Alice.”

“Sorry. Steve.”

“I know.” Awkward pause. “You know, normally when famous people come here, they pick a pseudonym.” 

“I was going to, but I’d have forgotten what it was.”

“What would you have picked?”

“Dunno. Phil?”

“No, not very convincing.”

“Are you really Alice?”

“Yes, I’m really Alice. Ghastly isn’t it? So twee.” 

He looks thoughtful, “Ali? Aliche?” (said the Italian way) “Liss?” 

I smile at that one, it has a little snakey hiss when he says it. He smiles back, the first time I’ve seen him smile properly since he got here. 

“Liss it is.”

“OK not-Phil.”

He lights another cigarette from the stub of the first and inhales like he’s drowning. 

“If they see you do that they’ll say you’re orally fixated.”

He squints at me through the smoke, “Orally what?” 

“Fixated. It’s Freudian. It means your psychosexual development is stuck in an early, childish phase of oral stimulation.” He’s staring at me, ironically with his mouth open. And my mouth just keeps talking. “Might explain why you drink. And smoke like a chimney. Apparently it’s why I talk so much and chew all the skin off my fingers.”

“Oh.” He looks confused, “I don’t...think...that’s why I drink?”

“No, neither do I. Coz it’s basically bollocks. Maybe I will have a cigarette now. Please.”

He lights one from his own and passes it to me cupped in his palm (I think he’s seen too many prison movies). I see the start of a smirk forming on his face. 

“No. You are about to make a terrible joke about oral which we will both regret, so just don’t.”

“Right.”

We go back to staring at our shoes, but I can still see the hint of a smile hiding behind the hair. I feel like there’s things I urgently need to think about, and I need to write to think, and then when I look up from my journal, he’s gone.

How sexuality takes part in our development

Developmental theory in sexual approach 

A lot of factors can influence our physical, mental, emotional, cognitive and personailty development. There are many famous developmental theroies such as the nativist (Charles Darwin, Galton) contra the behaviorist (John Locke, J. B. Watson) view (nature vs nurture).

Furthermore, many famous thinkers built up their theories in different approaches. The most known and the most conflict trigerring developmental theory I’m going to write about is the psychosexual development (I think I have mentioned it in my first entry). I’m sure it’s not surprising or even I can write it’s obvious that this theory is from Sigmund Freud.

Freud divided five developmental (which are all sexual contexts) stages. The psychosexual energy, or libidio, is the driving force behind behaviour. That’s why sexuality is the central theme of this theory. 

The first one is the oral stage (Birth to age 1). In this stage the mouth is the source of the interaction, the rooting and the sucking reflexes, which are strongly important in feeding. The individual depends on the caretaker (breast - feeding).  The major conflict in this stage is the weaning process, it means that the little child becomes less dependent upon caretakers. An oral fixation (= stucking at a developmental level) can occur which can result problems with drinking, eating, smoking, nail-biting in adulthood (every kind of activity which is connection with the mouth).  The anal stage (age 1 to 3) The primary focus of the libido is controlling bladder and bowel movements. The major conflict in this stage is the toilet training. If the parents deal with this conflict well, effortlessly as well as creatively, the individual will become creative, competent and a productive adult. If the individual had negative experiences, (for example the parents “punish”,  ridicule or shame a child for accidents) such as inappropriate parental responses can result becoming a messy, wasteful or a destructive personality. If the parents are too strict or begin toilet traning too early, it can result becoming a stringent, orderly, rigid, and obsessive personality. The phallic stage (age 3 to age 6) The main focus in this stage is on genitals. Little children begin to discover their bodies, they usually do it by masturbating. However, this is a connection between the formation of self-awareness and the gender identity, also called identification. (Note: there’s a famous psychological experiment for the self-awareness - The Rouge Test - self - recognition: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M2I0kwSua44) They can recognize the differences between male and female. Freud believed that the boys start to feel sexual desire for their mothers - this is the Oedipus Complex (According to Freud every men want to have sex with their mother subconsciously.......... Well... this is weird).

Oedipus is a greek mythological person who killed his father and married to his Mother, that’s where this term comes from.

The child also fears that he will be punished by his father for these feelings, which is called Castration Anxiety - the child becomes identify with the role of the father which is also important in learning the gender roles (social learning) of the society as well (the process of socialisation). 

And what about the girls?  The Electra Complex is a similar set of feelings (just like the Oedipus complex) experienced by young girls, but Freud believed that instead girls experience penis envy.

The latent period / latency stage (age 6 to puberty)

The libidio doesn’t functioning as the driving force in this stage. Children develop social skills, values and relationships with out of the family (school, civil organisations, etc.)  As with the other psychosexual stages, Freud believed that it was possible for children to become fixated or "stuck" in this stage as well. Fixation at this stage can result in immaturity and an inability to form fulfilling relationships as an adult. 

The genital stage (Puberty to death) 

The final stage of psychosexual development

This is the period when teenagers start to experience the love and the intimacy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QFx150f5lKg :D), because the libidio starts to become active again. It’s also important to mention that the puberty starts when girls start to menstruate (when the FSH =  follicle stimulating hormone starts to activate in the hypophysis) and the boys have the first ejaculation. The individual starts to feel a strong sexual interest in the opposite sex. The goal of this stage is to establish a balance between the various life areas. If the other stages have been completed successfully, the individual should now be well-balanced, warm, and caring.  Imagine you live in the times when Freud was alive (the late 1800′s and the early 1900′s.) People who lived in that era were characterized as very conservative and prudish. It proves that the clothes how had been wore at that time, for example the women's ankles could not be seen because they referred to being lush or immoral (despite the popularity of prostitution, what a paradox!) In addition, the legs of the chairs had to be covered, I don’t think that any explanations are neccesary :D :D It’s no wonder that he was judged by other people and psychologysts (and this theory is still controversial) as well.

Tzo Chiang

 “Nako, Kayla, you know, you are so tzo chiang!”--- growing up and still to this day, “tzo chiang” was a phrase that my mom never stopped calling me.

“Tzo chiang” is  Hokkien (chinese dialect) for “unladylike”. I would be called tzo chiang because I did not handle objects with much finesse. I would be called tzo chiang because I would put my feet up on the chair when I sat down. Sometimes, even the way I just handled myself outdoors would be labeled as tzo chiang.

All this constant name calling might be annoying to others, especially if it was not true. But in my case, being called tzo chiang never really bothered me. It was the truth. Growing up, I never really acted feminine. I was influenced a lot by my male cousins, so I grew up loving sports, outdoor activities, and video games. I loved adventure and taking risks. On top of that I was always competitive which made me a little more aggressive and rough than most girls. With that being said, I completely understand why my mom would call me unladylike. 

From what I learned in class, I also understand that my parents as well as many other people from their generations, truly believed in gender roles. Men should be powerful hunters, and initiators while women had to be pleasant, cooperative, and flirtatious for their men.  They believed that men and woman each had their own parts and roles to play to have a healthy relationship which eventually would lead to a happy and successful life. Thinking about it now, my mom probably felt the need to teach me to be ladylike because she was worried about me and my future and for that I must thank her. However, It is 2018 and the lines that separated genders roles have become more and more blurred. 

Looking back at myself from a more psychological perspective, maybe I grew up unladylike because I wanted to be like my dad. My father was a man who was very rough around the edges. However, he exuded much confidence which resulted in people respecting him. Without me realising it, I probably grew up to be unladylike because I wanted to exude the same power, strength, and confidence like he did. Sigmund Freud says that during the phallic stage of a child’s psychosexual development, a child tends to be more drawn to their respective opposite-sex parent which may have been the reason as to why I turned out to be the way I am today. However, being aware of all these concepts and stereotypes today, I still continue to be the “tzo chiang” girl I am because I want to continue to be deviant from the gender norms of society. I want to break the binary. From my education and socialising myself, I grew to know and see 3that everybody is born different and that people do not have to fit into the perfect mold that society built to have an awesome, successful, and meaningful life.

Hi hello, finally my weird psychosexual relationship with Casino Royale has come to fruition. Yeah this is directly based off a scene from Skyfall, but I def envision the vibe as being more like Casino Royale hehe. I can't believe I made that inspo board for this AU almost 4 weeks ago, and then ended up drawing a four panel "comic" about it. Ahhhh proud of myself, a bit, a tad. I think this took 20+ hours across the span of a week? God. Anyways I digress! The AU!!

First of all, their Bond song would be "My Way of Life" by Frank Sinatra. It's so toxic, codependent and obsessive, I'm in love with it. And it really suits Fernando and his motivations and outlook in this AU. Basically, MI6(in the context of James Bond) in this AU is an analog for Ferrari. It picks theses guys up, tells them that they're Ferrari MI6's most special boy, chews them up, and then spits them out when they're finished extracting all their talent and skill and life force.

Much like with Ferrari, Seb in this AU replaces Fernando after Fernando loses favor and becomes undesirable. Now Seb is the new golden boy, and Fernando has turned to a life of crime! Fernando resents Seb for this of course, but also becomes obsessed with him and the idea of him , and how they are connected. It's weird to watch someone else basically go down your exact same path and unknowingly make all the same mistakes(buying into the mysticism of it all too much, being overly cocky, having naive beliefs and goals, etc.) He is caught between wanting to doom Seb even more but also wanting to "save" him, by corrupting him and convincing him to work together.

Basically: He's both a Bond girl and Bond villain.

Fernando is in such a weird place in this AU. I think he's just very dramatic. Seb is just casually living his best 007(005?) life, and Nando is watching him with binoculars, whispering to himself: "DOESN'T HE UNDERSTAND THAT WE ARE NARRATIVE FOILS!?" Yeah he hates Seb, but like the song lyrics say, their lives and dreams are inherently tied up together. He would feel lost without Seb, because Seb basically, unknowingly, destroyed and then took over his life. Maybe he'll feel satisifed if he manipulates Seb into going down the exact same path a bit better.

About the drawings themselves. Still can't believe this scene is a real thing that actually happened, insane to me. But in this AU, after the events of these drawings, Fernando definitely kicked all his henchman out of the room, and fucked Seb in the chair. And then against the wall. And then on the floor. Hey man, Seb is already looking mighty delicious with his unbuttoned attire and being tied up.

I think the general plot would be that Fernando keeps trying to seduce him to the dark side, and Seb keeps making him think it worked, only to escape at the end of the encounter. Leading Fernando to just come up with increasingly more violent and kinky traps. Seb goes along with it(read: enjoys it), leaving Fernando satisifed, only to somehow escape and wink and make kissy faces at Fernando in the process. (Fernando smoking cigarette in bed: "How do I make him stay. Sigh.")

I like to think though that Fernando does win in the end, by realizing, ah wait shit I do need to actually explain my motivations to Seb. And Seb is so worn down by his job, not Fernando, and how he's being treated, that he listens, really actually listens, and realizes Fernando does really have valid reasons. And then they become evil crime husbands yayyyy. Wow you thought this was a espionage AU? Well it is, but just not the outcome you'd expect.
