why Player/Brain (Plain if u will) is already a great ship
1) its angsty
player doesnt remember anything from their previous life, but dont you think theyd be curious? Brain holds all the memories, but brain knows that the tragedy would be overwhelming for player. This could lead to some potential dilemma on how to tell player. Alternatively, brain could also be blunt (as always) but this would still overwhelm player. This would lead to potential hurt/comfort and apology scenes between the two. Additionally, brain is the sole survivor in khml Scala from the tragedy of daybreak town. I would imagine its alienating and lonely, especially without chirithy. Seeing player must give him relief, but when player tells him they dont remember anything, brain is back to square one. Players memories, though forgotten, are not lost. The more the duo spends time together, the more they can grieve what was lost. Together they can make new friends and turn a new page, for themselves and the future
2) unlikely friends (therefore its funny)
Khux player is canonically not talkative and brain is not the type to talk bc hes friendly. I doubt brain saw player as a friend and player probably did not consider brain as a close friend. But with khml, theyre probably scrutinized for being the odd ones out in scala. Two outsiders (clodleth fam youll like this) finding company with each other, though they may have different views on how to make friends. Id imagine their friendship is a clumsy one, but theyd learn that they compliment e/o quite well. With their undying loyalty, grievances for ephemer and their friends, willingness to sacrifice themselves, and openness to learn about each other, i think they would trust eo the most in khml. They can also be hilariously blunt so bickering would def be their love language
3) brain (lol) and brawn
Brain sent player to go check out grand central station while brain stayed back to do the lore lifting, must i say more? You cannot tell me brain would be fascinated with players rusted starlight and send them out for data
4) default black and white duo/light and darkness duo
Default player is shown to wear white clothes with blond hair, meanwhile brain has black hair with black attire. We love our black n white duos (ie skuld/eph, xeha/eraqus, brain/eph, bugs bunny n daffy duck). They r aesthetically pleasing!!!
5) last bit, but they wouldnt even realize theyre in love this ship lives off the foundation of complete hurt/comfort and trust, not romance
They are slow burn to the max, if anything. They protect eo in battle ferociously, but only bc they need eo for their respective goals. They sleep in the same bed to comfort eo for nightmares but they arent friends. Brain cooks breakfast, but— 🤓
Anyway as khml comes out and we may not get any plain crumbs at all, pls remember me at my grave 😚🙏 i ofc will be sticking around for the plot. Im so excited for khml AAAA

okay, final rule of wolves thoughts, clearly very spoilery, also literally just me talking about writing --
-there was a LOT going on plot wise but I feel like it was all paced pretty well, but at the end it did fall apart a little? mayu's pov just drops out?? (that's the book you should write next leighb not more crows as much as I love the crows but I'll get to that) zoya being queen is like phenomenal but also is really rushed?? same with nina and hanne?? they all become rulers completely unchallenged, without any difficulty?  -again, phenomenal moments and rightfully so and I'm glad they happen and they SHOULD, that difficulty shouldn’t always be there, nina calling it a beautiful dream but it being real matters so much, but it just doesn't feel.......narratively well done idk idk -i think it is just that it feels really rushed in some way  -like i don’t want them to have to work harder for that. but it IS really, really rushed
-captain inej. my whole heart -kaz and jesper and wylan..........also my whole heart -kaz. my boy. the light of my fucking life.  -l o v e  h i m
-i loved seeing zoya and genya and alina hang out at the very very end and wish there'd been moreeeeee
-ONCAT’S STILL ALIVE, THERE IS A GOD  -misha.......... :(
-david's death -- on one hand, the cruel casualties of war, even when you think nothing can go wrong, the contrast in it happening right after the wedding, war and life can turn on a dime and that’s just, how it happens -- but, ugggg. It hurts bc there was so much of david and genya being precious and that shouldn't be the slap in the face it is when you read it again because then it's not sweet it's just foreshadowing loss and that's actually aggravating to think about. because we got so MUCH of it in rule of wolves. -especially bc david is THE ONLY casuality of the cast in this book????? literally the only one?????? unless i forgot someone????  -not that I WANTED more cast to die but. big casualties in alina's story and one (1) here. yes they've already lost a lot and zoya's garden shows that but, then especially why kill david
-i don't know if I think the darkling gets redeemed -- I think it's a little funny that he brings together the starless one worshippers and he super hates them bc they aren't what he thinks he deserves and he can't completely manipulate them -- and I think him being resurrected in yuri in king of scars was a FASCINATING twist. because you read that and you think, oh my god, how are they going to handle that??????
-but, that's the thing, in writing -- it's not enough to write something that's a fascinating twist, you need to follow through with the right consequences of that twist. which means, you have the darkling again. what happens with him? he’s killed again -- but if immediately, why bring him back? if they wait to kill him, what is his worth to the plot that he lives longer? (and then he manages to manipulate them again!! as much as i wanted to see alina, i was really surprised that they actually, legitimately put them in the same room, that they even considered it, that they even asked alina!!! yes, nikolai will expend any avenue to help ravka -- but put alina and the darkling in the same room??????????)
-he’s not killed again, or right away -- then he has to hang around. what does he do? does he try to regain his followers? he can’t because they aren’t who he wants. he has no one to go to. he doesn’t even go to alina again even if he knows where she is.  does he immediately plot against nikolai? but even the darkling admitted he can’t, but, since he did keep his powers, he’s clearly capable of it, actually. so then he’s just, trying to get the worshippers together and it just keeps going wrong for him like a sitcom plot? if he has to live -- is he redeemed? not every character can be redeemed. not every character DESERVES to be redeemed. does he hide and we never see him for the rest of the book? then that leaves an unresolved plot thread to be brought back later, and why? and then why not just kill him?  -then does he become a bigger plot problem for the characters that’s kind of unnecessary?
-so it brings me back to, again -- as fascinating a twist as it was, was it necessary? does the act of following through with the consequences come to outweigh the power of the twist, because those consequences cause more problems?  -and in general i think leighb is really good at working with ‘x happens -- there are consequences’ in her plots, so that’s why i’m so concerned about picking them apart
-i’m sorry to make this like all about lulu talks about writing semantics but i respect leighb a lot as a writer particularly in her worldbuilding and characters which is why i want to think about this on a technical level  -so in the end -- is it a good twist??? or does it only harm or reduce the narrative that came before (he had to die and that was okay!!!!) and add an unnecessary additional plot problem to the narrative now??
-but -the darkling having to be the one in the thornwood, and finally stop the spread of the fold, what he himself was responsible for, that he deserves to finally suffer for because the darkling is a fuckwad and I hold like zero sympathy for him????? beautiful beautiful beautiful. (-but, again, it felt kind of too convenient, to have that be the answer to the blight.) (what should be the answer? i don’t know. it makes me wonder if the blight was something else unnecessary)  -but then genya forgiving him, for knowingly giving her to the king??? (not everyone has to be forgiven. not everyone can be forgiven.) zoya fulfilling his wish to be a saint???? which she did not have to do???? (guess it would appease the followers though??) giving him a pov???? like we need to know where he is, and it's funny that he's pissed off at the followers, but also maybe shouldn't be funny??? -oh what would've been fun (the good fun. not funny fun) was him wrestling with yuri more
-SPEAKING OF WRESTLING i know nikolai has to come to terms with the demon somehow and the failed obisbaya apparently helped but the demon was in the back quite a bit, I thought, even for as much as he shows up -maybe it’s just because it’s been like a year since i read king of scars
-okay so the ending  -i know leighb said she wanted this to be like the grand finale of grishaverse but that she was still open to more and like i completely understand that but  -knowing when to end something is important, too. -every story has a natural conclusion. I think, yeah, there’s always, some piece that could probably still be talked about, BUT – you can’t just keep going back to a story or a world and try to draw more out of it, keep pushing something in it so you can push your characters and your story more and more. eventually it won’t feel the same. it won’t be a natural ending anymore, it will be, here is an end, OH LOOK HERE’S A NEW THING, here is an end, OH LOOK HERE’S ANOTHER NEW THING, and that’s already happening a little here. (-i don’t think it was bad that it happened with nikolai at the end of ruin and rising -- that’s leighb addressing the consequences of something that she set up, and why i think king of scars was necesary.) -stories end. character arcs, as we know them, come to an end. if not, then they are just mined for content, usually angst and drama, and that’s especially not good writing. you risk stopping creating something that feels genuine.  -so yeah i think king of scars was necessary to talk about the aftereffects of nikolai’s demon and where ravka is going. but i don’t know if i think it was successful.  -what bothered me about king of scars, even with the parts i did like, was actually nikolai and zoya meeting elizabeta and juris and grigori -i don’t know if i just thought it was unexpected and i’d feel differently if i read it again?? but i never forget reading it last year and feeling just, weird about it, like it was too out of left field, idk  -i think the connection between saints = grisha is important. but again it’s all just, execution stuff
-i don’t think she should’ve set up a whole new adventure in the last like four pages, if it’s supposed to also have the ability to be a contained end to the story  -i don’t think it make sense to tease a new story!! i don’t think it’s needed!! i think it should have just had a plain happy ending with zoya taking the crown and being with nikolai!! i don’t think that’s bad!!!!  -i know the big thing is that, the downfall of grisha is the desire for power, and that’s what got alina (at least she got better. like the one time where ‘character lost powers’ is okay) and especially the darkling, but zoya has come really far in these two books in how she sees other people and working on relying on them as people she loves and i liked her chapters the best and they were what hit me the hardest, and i know it’s going to be a worry for her but i don’t think the idea of her becoming the darkling is something that should be given that weight  -ESPECIALLY IF IT WAS ONLY FOR FOUR PAGES
-so yeah i think the logical next book would be a place leighb hasn’t explored, like with six of crows.  -there’s a lot to do with the shu and the kerghud that she could do and as much as i love kaz and think another heist would be cool, a heist has already been done and i think it would be a wasted opportunity to do that without doing something new in the grishaverse
-it honestly really made me want to reread six of crows because i missed the crows a lot  -and i think it says a lot that so many people liked the chapters with kaz and jesper and wylan so much in rule of wolves -that was why i caved and bought rule of wolves right away!!! because i wanted to see the boy!!!!!! but i did also care about nikolai and zoya.  -personally i do think six of crows are the best books in grishaverse. i think they’re the most tightly plotted and have the best characters and are the most CONTAINED and the most compelling (even if i can’t always follow kaz’s implied background machinations) (i can’t always keep track of all the politics either!!) (not that big of a deal for me, though.)  -that duology is close to perfect. i think everything wraps up almost completely neatly (although i will, actually, be wondering now, about how death is handled in a narrative, re: matthias, because when i was reading them i thought, well, someone has to die in crooked kingdom, but, why? but anyway), and i love that the ending of it all is 1) characters continuing to change, and showing they will continue to change 2) inej reuniting with her parents aaaaaaa  (-worth noting though that the epilogue of ruin and rising is indeed one of my favorite things as well, too.)
-i did still enjoy rule of wolves, though!!! a lot of little moments i really really liked, and nikolai and zoya were beautiful and delightful and i love them too, and i do kind of want to reread king of scars and this one again to see if my opinion has changed when i read them closer together but -i also do really just want to reread six of crows, again.

Super5 headcanons part 4
Part 1     Part 2     Part 3  Part 4   Part 5
And thats how they found themselves one saturday morning in the parking lot of the closest mall with no idea how to go about this
Hatori, who already regretted this, was regretting it even more when he noticed how crowded the place was "so... What do we do if someone recognizes him as the prime minister kidnapper? "
"We have come before and no one has recognized us so far..." said shibata a little hesitant "what makes you think this time it would be different?"
"Well i dont know...how about the fact it was internationally televised"
"So were you destroying that army helicopter" quipped Shimazaki from behind "if you are so scared you shouldnt have come"
"Who do you think is gonna pay for your shit dumbass?!"
"Did i ask you to do it?" Shimazakis glasses were obscuring his eyes but the glare was evident "I am the one forced to come. I DONT NEED YOU-"
"BOTH OF YOU SHUT THE FUCK UP" Minegishi yelled before Shimazaki could say anything further "Hatori! we have gone through this before. Everything willl be fine and if it isnt then we'll deal with it and Shimazaki no one is forcing you to do this! we talked and you accepted, you cant turn back now"
When both of them kept quiet Minegishi thanked god(gods? Whoever was in charge of his stupid life) for it and rubbed his temples, a headache already threatenint its way
Although Shimazaki had been mostly right in saying they forced him to come they would never give him the reason
Besides its not like he couldnt transport away at any moment. If he was here it was because at some level he actually wanted and it was enough for them.
"Cmon guys, people are starting to stare" Shibata, bless him, decided to take charge at that instant and ushered them inside
"So...where do we start? " said Hatori wearily glancing at the different stores there were
"How about we start by replacing his jacket?" mused Shibata "i think its the item that attracts attention the most"
"Whats wrong with my jacket?"
"It has bullet holes"
"And scorching marks"
"Scorch marks? That fucking kid..."
"You didnt notice? It used to have blood stains too but they were gone after i washed it...was it even yours?"
"How would i know?"
The three men sighed at this before minegishi spoke "Okay...that settles it then. Well start by the jacket"
"Oh how about we get him a sweater? I actually need some myself and they are in offer!" said Hatori excitedly pointing at the store where he usually bought his
"Im sorry man but someone needs to tell you...your taste in sweaters suck" admitted Shibata making Shimazaki snicker
"Says the guy who only wears shorts and nike t shirts"
"IM A GYM INSTRUCTOR"
"So? Why does everybody need to know at all times?"
Minegishi, for the second time that day. interrupted the fight between his friends "Im sorry Hatori but Shibatas right"
"What?" asked Hatori feeling betrayed
"I mean...the pigeon sweater?"
"Oh for the lord of-You know what? FINE! Whatever! I dont care! But thats a start and none of you have a better idea." Hatori smirked knowing he was right when the others didnt said anything "Besides he is going to pick his clothes so you dont have to worry about my "horrible taste" and fuck you guys, that sweater was awesome"
Shimazaki watched amused the exchange that followed while they walked to the supoosed sweater store. It remind him of the reason he accepted coming.
He was getting used to these petty fights and actually found them kind of funny.
Maybe coming wasnt as bad of a idea as it felt at first
Maybe it was
"So do you like the burgundy one?" asked Shibata when he noticed Shimazaki finally picked something
"Whats burgundy?" replied Shimazaki who had only grabbed something that felt soft
"Its kind of like red...but darker"
"Shibata I dont know what red is"
"Oh...thats....thats sad man"
Minegishi facepalmed before picking more red sweaters and handing them to Shimazaki "Red is actually the color of the t shirt you are wearing so it's close to your current style. Here. These are red too just...try them out and see if you like any"
"I cant believe i forgot he cant see" said Shibata while Shimazaki went to dressing room
"It happens to best of us" responded Minegishi
Some minutes later Shimazaki returned with 2 sweaters including the burgundy he had picked
"So how did it go?" asked minegishi retrieving the sweaters from Shimazakis hands
"They felt soft"
"And?"
"And....what?" this was new fo Shimazaki and he didnt know what answer were they expecting
"How did the fit? How did you feel the neck? The chest?"
" they just fitted"
"Really?" shibata checked the tags "these are two sizes apart. Didnt one feel too loose or too tight?"
Shimazaki tried to remember but he didnt actually paid attention to that.
Luckily for him Hatori decided that moment to come back.
"Hey guys how its going? I talked with the cashier and he said that theres a 2x1 offer. So we can-oh, you already got 2? How did you know?"
He wasnt expecting the others to shrug
"Okay..." continued Hatori "Are you finished? I already got mine"
"Do you want those?" Minegishi asked and sighed when the other man kept silence
Shimazaki didnt know. Sure, they have felt nice but so did his current clothes. Besides minegishi was asking if he "wanted" them and Shimazaki wasn't used to actually considering if he wanted them. Usually there wasnt many options.
"How did you pick your clothes?" tried Shibata
it was shimazakis turn to shrug "I just robbed them and kept what fitted"
"What? Who did you rob to get your current clothes" said Hatori surprised "i thought you had this aesthethic going"
"What?"
" You know like bad boy style. Kinda like grease"
"What"
"Grease? The musical-"
"ANYWAY" interrupted Minegishi "we are barely starting. Lets try somewhere else"
After that they went to other stores to try other clothes but each time the same scene of shimazaki, being unconfortable and not caring that much for what they picked, repeated and Shibata was having none of that.
He pulled Shimazakis arm turning him back. "Okay, man. From the clothes you are wearing right now. Which one do you actually like?"
It took shimazaki a full minute to answer but he finally said "The jacket"
Without thinking it twice Shibata dragged him to the first leather jacket store he saw, the others following close behind and scanned the items looking for a model that resembled Shimazakis the most.
Minegishi who had been looking at the tags glanced back to shibata "Are you sure about this? These are really expensive"
Shibata didnt reply and kept looking until he found what he wanted and smiliing turned to shimazaki"Take off your jacket and try this"
Shimazaki did as he said (and almost suceed at hiding the apprehesion Shibata had seen before when handing his jacket) and frowned when he put on the other. "Did you just hand me back my jacket again?"
Shibatas smile grew wider "Nop"
Shimazaki didnt believe him so he started to feel around for the bullet holes he knew were in the back and "stared" in disbelief when he couldnt find any of them.
Shibata resisted the urge to laugh "If you dont believe me check the sides. It has pockets"
"Maybe i never noticed mine had pockets" said Shimazaki stuffing his hands into the new pockets
"Sure man" shibata looked at the others "What do you think?"
"What am i suppsed to think? He looks exactly the same" said Hatori "At least this one isnt falling apart"
" Are you sure? Did you looked at the price" asked Minegishi again
Shibata glanced back at a now pouting Shimazaki who still had his hands stuffed inside the pockets and nodded "Its not like i will be broke if I buy it"
Shibata returned Shimazaki his old jacket and after paying for the new one he and the others gathered around Shimazaki
"Now shimazaki. Your pants"
"What about them?"
" what dont you like about your pants?"
Shimazaki looked offended "who said i dont like my pants?"
"You. You said it was the jacket what you liked the most and not the pants so theres sometjing about tjem you dont like" pointed out Minegishi
"Is the tightness isnt it?" Hatori asked with a smirk
"I actually like the tightness" deadpanned shimazaki and then looked like something disgusting crossed his mind but Hatori started screaming
"AH CMON! IM NOT BUYING HIM SLUTTY SKIN TIGHT LEATHER PANTS. DO YOU KNOW WHERE WE WILL HAVE TO GO-"
Minegishi covered hatoris mouth with his hand shutting him definitely "what did you think?"
"I liked shibatas clothes" Shimazaki reluctantly grumbled out
"AND THATS ANOTHER POINT FOR THE NIKE SHORTS GUY" bragged Shibata
"I liked Minegishis socks too"
"Wha-When did you use my socks?"
Shimazaki shrugged "That week you were hiding with them"
"You little piece of-"
They went to buy those and other clothes they deemed necesary ("STOP BEING CHILDREN YOU TWO. HE NEEDS UNDERWEAR TOO" yelled an embarrased Minegishi after the others laughed at him for suggesting it). Trying to get at least 2 items of each type of clothes
Eventually Shimazaki admitted he had liked the sweaters he tried first too and Hatori gladly bought them even though none of them correctly fitted (one was too tight and one was too loose)
With bags in hands they set out to leave and were talking about what to eat when Hatori cut it "Hey guys. Before we go i need to go to the bethroom!"
"Cant you wait till we go to eat?"
"If i could i would"
"Ugh fine. Do you even know where the bathroom is?
"There are six. Two in each floor. the closest to us in the middle, we passed it some minutes ago." shimazaki unexpectly said
Minegishit, shibata and Hatori stared baffled at him.
"How do you know...?"
"Mental eye?" said Shimazaki like it was the most obvious thing in the world "Theres so many people that I basically can see a complete map of the mall"
"Yeah but how do you know when you are seeing a bathroom?" asked curiously Hatori
The three of them started laughing when Shimazaki refused to answer
While they waited for Hatori Shibata glanced around and almost smacked himself in the head when he noticed certain store.
With all the drama of the clothes Shibata had completely forgotten the real reason they were here. Luckily for him it was in front of them
"LOOL GUYS! A PET STORE!"
Minegishi looked to where Shibata pointed and hummed "we could go look around while we wait"
"Why would we-" Shibata pulled again shimazakis arm not letting him finish his question and dragged him inside the store.
'Please let it be one of those stores please let it be one of those stores' kept repeating Shibata in his head until Minegishi pointed at one side of the store "Look, they have a pet zone"
Victory! "Lets go!"
Shimazaki followed Minegishi and Shibata to the far end of the store where a lots of kids were and stood awkwardly not knowing what to do when Shibata suddenly handed him a little ball of fur.
Heartbeats. Blood flowing. Breaths. Warm. Soft. Oh no.
When Hatori finally found them after searching for minutes it was to the scene of Shimazaki sitting on the floor the floor, face being licked by one of the five puppies sitting on his lap....Was he crying? (No he wasnt but it was close)
Minegishi and Hatori were loudly gasping while Shibata kept saying variations of "I told you guys!" "You didnt believe me"
It was a good day for Shibata.
At night Minegishi. And Shimazaki were facing a new problem he hadnt considered. Where would they put Shimazaki stuff?
"I thought you could use my wardrobe but its too small..." minegishi had forgotten how much of a space his uniforms occuped.
Shimazaki suddenly dissapeared and after some minutes teletransported back with some boxes and ignored when Minegishi asked him from where did he got them "People use boxes to store things. We can use them"
"I guess? But it will be a hassle to pile and unpile them whenever-I have an idea"
without further ado Minegishi activated his powers and with the plants and the boxes built and cabinet of sorts in tje licing room "This will have to do for a while"
They spent the rest of the night folding the clothes (more like Minegishi trying to teach Shimazaki how to do it) and then went to sleep.
Since Shimazaki was overpowered by a bunch of puppies(YEAH SHIBATA YOU WERE RIGHT WE WERE WRONG CAN YOU JUST SHUT UP), Hatori decided something must have broken inside him because he developed a new habit: He started to pet every dog he encountered
And "Encountered" was a way to put it
After the third scream that afternoon Hatori shaked his head while waiting for the man to come back
"SHIMAZAKI FOR THE LAST TIME STOP POPPING OUT OF NOWHERE"
"Why?"
"BECAUSE YOU SCARE THE SHIT OUTTA PEOPLE!"
"So?"
Hatori groaned dragging his hands along his face and then turned to walk away /flee the scene
" I knew we should have stayed back in the apartment playing videogames"
"I told you I didnt want to come" shimazaki whined
Hatori just glared at him and walked faster not caring whether the bastard followed him or not. Why was he stuck babysitting Shimazaki on his off day? Oh yeah, minegishi was working and Shibata...fuck shibata! How could he forget his wallet "well, you wouldnt have had to come if you had accepted to take him his wallet"
Shimazaki somewhat got offended by that "Iike some kind of delivery guy? What a waste of my powers. Besides if i had taken it to him he wouldnt have invited us to dinner"
"Okay. First of all delivery guys are the foundation of modern society and you should respect them and second SHIBATA DIDNT INVITE YOU YOU INVITED YOURSELF"
Shimazaki just shrugs "so? Its shibata! He always pays for me"
"Aaaand the manchild cant see why thats wrong" hatori mutters
"Hatori Im blind"shimazaki deadpans
"YOU KNOW EXACTLY WHAT-"
Shimazaki who was clearly ignoring Hatori perks up "Hes coming"
"Who is-?" hatori doesnt need to ask once he sees shibata giant form turning the corner ahead
"Hi guys!" Shibata greets waving at them .
Hatori hesitantly waves back "Shibata? What are you doing here? Didnt you have a class?"
"Boss had an emergency and we had to close early"
"Oh damn i hope it wasnt something serious-"
"WHO CARES? CAN WE GO ALREADY?" shimazaki whines
Shibata laughs and pats him on the back "Shimazaki! buddy, Im glad you came!"
Hatori rolls his eyes "the only reason he came was the food. He didnt even want you bring your wallet to you which reminds me" he takes out the wallet and gives it to him " you left it on the kicthen counter"
Shibata takes it and smiles "thank you man, you are the best!...so where do you guys want go?"
Shimaza was already opening his mouth to declare what he wanted when hatori pointed at accusatory finger at him "oh no! Dont even dare! Minegishi and Shibata spoil you enough"
Shibata frowned at him "We dont spoil him-"
Hatori turned to look at him with a face that said 'You gotta be kidding me' "YES YOU DO! He picked the last two times and I already had to deal with his bullshit all day so today I get to pick where we go!" hatori crossed his arms "besides it was me who brought the wallet"
"What? No! The places you pick are lame." shimazaki explaimed "shibata tell him!"
"Im sorry bud, he has a point there. You picked the last two times and its only fair he gets to pick today"
Shibata had to resist the laugh at seeing shimazaki sulk and Hatori stuck his tongue out at him.
After hatori proclaimed where he wanted to got they started to walk in that direction. Shibata carefully observed Hatori.
"So...what did shimazaki do to make you mad like that?" asked Shibata after a few minutes of walking
"He scared three persons on our way here" mumbled Hatori while he texted on his phone
"Three persons?" shibata looked back at shimazaki who walked behing with his hands in his pockets "Why?!"
Shimazaki shrugged "Its not my fault people are so easy to scare"
Not undertanding shibata turned to hatori confused
Hatori sigued and without looking from his phone he replied "He is doing again that thing where he teleports to pet nearby dogs"
Shibata groaned "Buddy! We have told you already theres no need to teletransport, you can just walk up to them and ask the owner if you can pet their dog"
Shimazaki rolled his eyes "Wheres the fun in that?"
"The fun is in the fact i wouldnt have to run 3 different times in less than 1 hour because of you" hissed Hatori finnally pocketing his phone
"Besides" picked Shibata " You cant go around petting peoples dogs"
"Huh? Why not?" rebuked Shimazaki "All dogs like to be petted!"
"Because you have to ask the owners permission first you dingus! Some people dont like to be molested "
"And there are some special dogs who shouldnt be petted or they get distracted from their duty "
"Oh! I heart about that-"
"They are dogs" Shimazaki snapped "What duty could dogs possibly have?"
Both men turned to him surprised "You dont know? You must know"
"About what?" answered Shimazaki
"Service dogs? You know...Dogs that help blind people? "
"What?"
Thats how they spend dinner explaining to shimazaki about service dogs
Later that night when a text from Minegishi saying "Who was the idiot who told Shimazaki about service dogs??" came they both ignored it
Feeling guilty for letting Minegishi crush Shimazakis dreams of having a dog after being the ones who told him in the first place, Hatori and Shibata arranged a day to accompany Shimazaki to pet dogs.
Susprinsingly the man had listened to them and stopped popping besides every person who walked their dog and instead waited for Hatori or Shibata to let him know when he could pet the dog.
Due to how complicated that was they soon found a solution: stray dogs were free of hassle even if they were more difficult to find.
"You know? The day he tries to keep one of them we will be in big trouble" mussed Hatori after Shimazaki dissapeared probably finding another stray
"i dont know. Minegishi was very harsh." Shibata laughed remebering that day " I doubt hell try it anytime soon"
Hatori hummed "Do you think hell stay there this time or wil he bring it-"
As in cue Shimazaki reappered, a dirty bundle of black hair in his arms "I got it! It was behind some trash bags"
Both men stared at the strange looking ball of fur, dread setting in their stomachs.
"S-Shimazaki...Buddy... I dont think thats a dog" said Shibata slowly backing away
"What do you mean-" the thing decided that moment to turn its head and reveal its masked eyes.
It was a raccoon.
It bit Shimazakis arm.
"AHHH STUPID SHIT" Shimazaki screamed and quickly trew the damn thing
"AHHHHHHHH" the damn thing, now a blur of claws and fangs, unfortunately landed on Hatoris head.
"Shimazaki help me here-AHHHH" screamed shibata when he tried to rip the beast from Hatoris face
Shimazaki just teleported away.
By the time the raccoon finally jumped and scurried away both Hatori and Shibata were covered in scratches and bleeding from different parts.
"He is gonna pay...Im gonna make him pay" muttered Hatori while cleaning his glasses.
"I think we should go to the hospital first..."
Originally shimazaki was gonna mistake a cat for a dog but a racoon sounded funnier.
Did you know you rarely see stray dogs in Japan because people immediately report them? Or at least thats what my japanese teachers told me.
I know this is like a month later but i had difficulties writing this...ngl the por reception the 3rd part had kinda bummed me BUT i love these guys too much and dont want to stop writing this so im okay now.

Coming Home
This is for @doptimous, inspired by the prompt “What could be worse than losing you?"  I was going to write something else but it went sideways and I wrote the prequel instead.Happy New Year, and Happy Amnesty Day, which it still is in the Pacific time zone!  (My original posting day was the 30th.  Oops.  And sorry.)
Warnings / tags: Everybody from Rogue One is still dead except Jyn and Cassian.  Bodhi briefly survived Scarif but then I killed him again because I’m a jerk.
Past polyamory (Cassian/Jyn/Bodhi, mostly Jyn/Bodhi), ace spectrum Cassian, use of content from the Aftermath trilogy (mostly an appearance by Conder Kyl and mentions of other characters), trauma, swearing, gratuitous amateur geology, nothing more physical than snuggling/kissing/holding hands, vague allusion to assisted reproductive technologies (but no actual pregnancy)
As the others filed out of the briefing room, tactfully leaving the two of them alone, Cassian stood and crossed the few meters that separated them.  "Come on, Lieutenant Erso.  On your feet."
She rolled her eyes as she took his extended hands and levered herself out of the chair.  "So I missed a lot."
"A little," he agreed, dropping one of her hands.  "Where do you want to go first?"
"'Fresher."  The door sealed itself behind them.  "No, my quarters, then the 'fresher."
Home One was a large ship, and they were entirely likely to be seen by other crew; but under the circumstances he didn't think that anyone would object to their holding hands in the corridors.
Space was tight, but there was enough for the officers to have a room to themselves, however small.  Jyn opened the door and tugged him inside impatiently; then her arms were around him and her mouth was on his.  He kissed her back, gladly and eagerly, because knowing that the Empire had been reduced to scattered fragments while she was away on a mission had torn at the part of him that burned for her.  Even more than usual.
When they separated, he reached for the cord around his neck, lifted it, and held it out to her.  She smiled the small soft smile she always smiled at these moments, and lowered it over her head. The cord settled between her breasts, and she lifted the crystal and tucked it under her shirt.
"Thank you for keeping it safe."  She leaned in and kissed him again, gently, and pulled him closer.  "I'm going to get clean.  Wait for me?"
"Always."
When she came back they stretched out shoulder to shoulder on her narrow bed.  His "I've been thinking—" collided with her "What about?"  She laughed and rested her head on his shoulder.  "Go on, Cass."
He took a deep breath.  "The best analyses are that it's all over now for the Empire but the mopping up.  And I think I want out."
"Out?" Jyn echoed, as if she'd never heard the word before.
He nodded.  "We found out that the second Death Star was destroyed, and I spent every moment since then worrying that you might not come back."  His chest felt tight.  "I was sure that would happen as soon as it was all over."
"But I did come back."  She touched his cheek.  "I'm here, Cass."
"Yes."  He curled up against her, and she turned to face him and wrapped her arms around him.  "I spent a lot of time thinking about what I would do if you didn't make it back," he mumbled to her shoulder.
"What did you think about?"
He shifted to rest his chin on her shoulder, so she could hear him clearly.  "Fest."  He took a deep breath.  "I want to go back there.  I hope you'll go with me."
"Would you have gone without me?  If I didn't make it back?"
"Yes."
"Good."  She kissed his forehead.  "Then I will go with you."
"Just like that?"
"Were you expecting an argument, Major Andor?"
"Most people wouldn't instantly agree to live on economically ravaged cold planet they didn't have any connection to."
She raised her eyebrows.  "I think you count as a connection, Major Andor.  Besides, I was born on a cold planet, even if I don't remember it.  And," Jyn sighed gustily "—too many planets are economically ravaged.  And ecologically."
"I didn't even think of that last part," Cassian admitted.  Fest was a cold planet; that hadn't stopped the Empire from turning huge chunks of land into industrial sites, stripping the planet of as many resources as it could carry away, and leaving the industrial sites polluted.
"How bad is it?"
"I don't really know," Cassian admitted.  "I haven't looked."
"Then it's time to."  She grabbed the datapad on her nightstand, unlocked it, and started searching.
***
Later, when they were satisfied with the shell of their plan, they signed up for discharge counseling right from Jyn's datapad.  Unfortunately, the hierarchy was disinclined to let him go quickly.  It doesn't take long for him to become rapidly tired of the bland conference room, or the bland human man who was assigned as his discharge couselor.
"Major Andor, the Republic has a great need of counterintelligence operatives at this time.  We expect that the remains of the Empire, as well as other groups, will attempt to penetrate and influence our organization."
"The Republic needs to develop operatives and planners who are better suited to the restoration of civil order," Cassian countered.  I might stay on for a short time, in an advisory capacity.  But not for long."
"A year, perhaps."
"I think three months would be enough," Cassian countered.
"Six months, with the possibility an of extension."
"If you can't get by with six months I question your ability to do it at all. Or your sincerity in making that offer."  Cassian crossed his arms and leaned forwward, resting his arms on the table.  "You aren't giving me much of an incentive to stay."
"We'll see what you can do in six months."  The official made a note.  "I believe you'll want to stay and strengthen the Republic's security apparatus.  But perhaps you'll surprise me, one way or another."
Cassian took the datapad and read each clause carefully, and then he signed.
"You wouldn't be the first," he informed the official, and left the room and went to find Jyn.
***
She looked pensive.  Before he could ask what was wrong, she handed him her datapad.
It's not a separation document. It's not a contract. It's an acceptance of responsibility for a gamete sample.
"Did you ever ... talk about that?"
Jyn shook her head.  "It wasn't like that."  Her voice was heavy.  He knew this loss weighed on her, and always would, and wished she hadn't been compelled to remember it.
She had come to him a few weeks after the destruction of the first Death Star.  They had seized whatever moments they could find to spend curled around eachother.  They had wept, raged, confided, kissed gently, and held each other as tightly as they could.  But neither of them had made a move to remove any clothing, their own or the other's.
One day she sat next to him, and said  "I think Bodhi wants me."  Her voice was calm, as if she were reporting that weather conditions were mild.
"And?"  His own tone suggested that he wasn't in charge of launch control or scheduled for takeoff, and wondered why she was telling him.
She looked up at him.  The look in her eyes was not pleading, exactly, but vulnerable and asking for understanding.  "I don't know if I want him in the same way," she said slowly.  "But I think it could be something I need right now. And that maybe he does too."
He was silent.  She continued speaking, haltingly.
"I just need ... to burn something off.  And I don't want ... to make you be part of that.  But I don't want to alienate you because I feel ... adrift and looking for a harbor.  Tou've been my harbor since the council meeting.  And this is meaningful to me.  I hope you know that.
"We're comrades.  I hope we always will be.  But I want us all to be friends, too.  And if you can't work with that..." she shrugged. "Then things stay the way they are."
Finally there was a space for his voice in this flood of words.  "Jyn. I'm not arguing."
"But are you agreeing?"  She flushed and looked at the floor.  "I'm sorry.  I'm not trying to pressure you. I just ... this has been itching at me."
"I can tell," he said, dry as the sands of Jedha, and put his arm around her. "Give me some time to mull it over."  He knows that what she and Bodhi really share—not to discount their friendship—is grief for Galen Erso and Jedha and the rest of Rogue One.  But it doesn't seem necesary to point that out.
He'll never stop being glad that he said yes.  After Jyn's first overnight with Bodhi, he asked "Well?" and Jyn made a pretend-thoughtful face and said "He's teachable."  Then she burst into giggles and pounced on him, giving him a long glorious kiss.
Bodhi seemed to expect things to be awkward, and to think that Cassian would rather not see him.  But one day, when Cassian was having a post-briefing snack with Jyn after a meeting, Bodhi came in and veered toward them, and then away, having apparently seen Jyn first and then Cassian.
"Hey, Ells!"  Cassian had called, using Bodhi's new name, and waved, beckoning.  It wasn't much of a secret among those who were there when Bodhi Rook arrived on Yavin that he and Ells Risken are the same man, but it was meant to provide some measure of security for Bodhi, who is still wanted by the Empire.  He had a new hairstyle, and the repairs to his injuries necessitated some small anatomical differences.  Bodhi had decided it was the best of a limited number of options.
After that, things aren't so awkward.  They go back to spending time together, and sometimes Bodhi joins them for what Cassian secretly thinks of as snuggling sessions.  Everyone's clothes stay on, just like when it's only him and Jyn.  "One of the mechanics asked which of you was my between-lover," Jyn grumbled one day.  "I told her—"
"I think the entire base has heard what you told her," Cassian informed her.
"I didn't," said Bodhi, and winced and laughed at the same time when Jyn repeated it.
Jyn and Bodhi's trysts gradually petered out.  They were all closer together as friends, or more than friends really when it comes to him and Jyn.
Things ran along those routes for weeks, until one day Bodhi didn't return from the cargo convoy he was part of when they expected him.  Hours later, Shara Bey had knocked on the door of Cassian's quarters.  "I'm sorry," she said simply, and handed them a data stick.  She hesitated, then said "Risken—Rook was good.  He almost got out of range.  I'm sorry we couldn't save him."
The data stick contained a dump from the recorders of Bey's A-wing.  Bodhi had yelled for the rest of the convoy to hyper out, that they only wanted him.  The other cargo pilots had mostly done so; the escort had stayed until Bodhi repeated his demand and added "Tell them I'm sorry."  One of the escort had been destroyed; the others had attempted to defend Bodhi until the overwhelming attacking force had destroyed his ship.
One of Bodhi's squadron-mates had brought Bodhi's small array of possessions to Jyn, including his old Imperial uniform.  She had said thank you and then thrown herself down on her bunk to weep.  Cassian didn't find this out until hours later.  Alliance Intelligence had decided that counterintelligence would be his new assignment; there had been a great deal of uncertainty what do to with him since the Scarif raid.  It had succeeded, but at a great cost, and he had disobeyed orders and the will of the Council.  The first order of any substance he'd received since then was to determine how the Empire had located Bodhi.
Finding the answer had given him no pleasure, but he'd done it, and succeeded well enough in that assignment and others like it to be promoted.  Jyn had been commissioned and sent on infiltration missions that took advantage of her codebreaking and forgery skills.  And all of this had brought them here, frowning at a document that suggested something spurious and dredged up a grief that was usually quiescent, like the scar from an old injury.
***
"I went and bothered one of the med-droids," she said listlessly.  She was pale and her shoulders were slumped; he sat next to her on the bed and took her hand gently.  "It said that it was possible for the donor to opt not to reveal the recipient until the conclusion of hostilities, or their separation from the service.  Or it said that the notification could have slipped through the cracks.  It didn't have clearance to access the database, and it couldn't tell me anything more than that."
Cassian looked at her and raised his eyebrows.
She shook her head.  "I don't have clearance to access it either.  And this isn't my kind of slicing.  If I tried ... well.  Odds are good that I'd just destroy any evidence.  And I'm not going to figure it out in two weeks.  Even if I got access."
"Two weeks?!"
"Yes."  She frowned, with her whole face; her eyes narrowed and her lips pursed and her nose crinkled.  "How long are you in for?"
"Six months.  With an option for extension."
"Kriff.  You really have been conscripted all over again."  Her voice is lively and fierce now.  "I guess we won't be going to Fest anytime soon."
"Not together, anyway."
She sighed.  "I have to chase this down.  I owe him."
"We both do.  We all do," Cassian agreed.  "Where are you going to start?"
"Where the sample is, if it exists.  In an underground vault on Hoth.  Right climate, wrong planet.  There's a periodic run that drops off a maintenance droid to do checks and retrieve samples, or answer any emergency signals.  I'm going to get clearance to go along, and see what there is to see.  I'll call in a favor if I have to."
Cassian knows she means Mon Mothma, who regards Jyn as someone who sacrified for the Alliance even though it failed her over and over.  "Are you sure that's how you want to use it?"
Jyn shrugged.  "What else?  Unless you want me to get you released from that contract."
"No.  There was enough pressure on me to stay that the request probably came from her.  Or from someone that it would be hard for her to negotiate with.  Besides, I signed, and I'm going to keep my word."
"I know."  A small smile lit her eyes and tugged at the corners of her mouth.  She leaned closer and kissed him.  "I hope I'll see you before I leave.  The next routine run leaves in twelve hours, and I want to be on it.  I have to find the Senator, and getting a few minutes of her time could take a while."
"Ah."  He took her other hand and tugged her to her feet, and pulled her close.  "I'm being sent to Chandrila," he told her.  "Look for me there, if I'm not here when you get back."
"I will."  She hugged him back.  "Love you, Cass."
"Love you too, Jyn."
***
She found him on Chandrila two weeks later.
"The sample is in the most secure storage I could arrange," she said without prompting.  "I don't know if it's real; I want to minimize forensic disturbance."
He smiled tiredly at her.  "Hello, Jyn, it's good to see you too."
"You know and I know that 'What did you find out?' would have been the first thing you asked."  She sat down on the sofa in his small front room, and he joined her.  "It is good to see you."  She leaned against him, and he put an arm around her shoulder.
"I monitored the droid on Hoth.  Everything seems secure back at the vault, and the droid handed the sample I had paperwork for to me as a routine matter, and it agreed to report for additional diagnostics without any objections."
"That's good."
"It's a start.  I think we're back to needing a slicer.  Well, I am."
"We are."  He squeezed her hand.  "I'd do it for you, but if there is a problem with the integrity of the database or the vault, we need to find it.  For the sake of everyone who used it."
"Yes," Jyn agreed, with a small sigh.  "So are we doing this officially or unofficially?"
"Officially but quietly, I think."  He handed over his datapad.  "Here.  Write a report for the Chancellor, but don't send it yet."
Jyn rolled her eyes.  "Yes, Major."  She typed a few paragraphs and handed the datapad back to him, and watched with interest as he added a few lines of his own.
"Kyl has passed a security screening, and is working with us on a few projects," he told her.  "I'll set up a meeting with him tomorrow, and we can add this to his list of tasks."
"It's been two weeks, and you've already turned into a bureaucrat on me," Jyn grumbled.
"It's been two weeks, and you're well on your way to regressing into the loose-cannon space rat you were when you landed on Yavin!"  He knew he shouldn't have said that as soon as the words were out of his mouth.  But she struck a nerve, because she's not wrong.
She's staring at him, astonished.  "Well, I guess I'll be sleeping on this couch tonight.  Or possibly in a hotel room on the other side of the planet."  She pulled away from him.
"Wait," he asked, finding his voice when she was a step away from the door.  "Please."
She turned to look at him.
"I am a bureaucrat," he said with a sigh.  "I write memos, I read memos, I go to meetings where people speak to hear themselves talk, and it's eating me alive.  I'm not sure how I'm going to last the first six months, much less any extension.  I almost hope they find that my performance is unsatisfactory and let me go early.
"The Republic was always too big to govern or help all the planets in the territory it claimed.  That's where the Separatist movement came from, you know.  And it's going to happen all over again, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop it.  And I can't stand watching it happen over again."  He rose and paced in a circle a few times; this is how he spends at least a portion of his nominal off-shift time.  When he could make himself stop, he turned to face her.  "But I shouldn't have said that to you.  You're free, and that's not the same thing as undisciplined, and you were never a space rat.  And I'm sorry."
A corner of her mouth twitched.  "I still am a space rat."  Then the almost-smile fell away, and she looked at him somberly.  "Cass—you know you can't go on like this.  You need a medical leave, or something."
"The longer I spend on leave, the longer it will be until they let me go."
"I'll kidnap you if I have to," Jyn said flatly.
"Don't do that."  He barely managed to keep from saying that the last thing she needed was a real criminal record in the Republic's files.
"You're not doing anything to convince me that I shouldn't sleep somewhere else."
"If you stick around you can go with me to meet Conder Kyl," he offered.  "He won't talk about security matters without someone he hasn't already met present."
Jyn arched her eyebrows.  "Could be interesting to test."
"There's already a schedule for that.  I wrote it."  He shook his head grimly.  "Please, Jyn.  Stay.  Sleep on my couch.  You would be anyway.  I haven't bothered to get a bed yet."
She groaned.  "Cassian Andor."  And she swooped down on him, grabbed his arm, and marched him out the door.  "I'm getting a hotel room, and we're both staying in it.  For tonight at least."
He leaned against her, and she relinquished the tight grip and put her arm around his waist.
***
In the morning, after Jyn had condescended to let him go out to buy clean underwear and clothes that more or less satisfied the official dress code, they met Conder Kyl at a café.
"Is this official or personal?" Kyl asked, looking between them with some interest.
Cassian suppressed a sigh.  He knew he was a bit rumpled, even though Jyn had let him borrow her hairbrush.  Somehow the first comfortable sleep he's had since he got here has left him feeling more tired, and frayed around the edges.
"A bit of both, but not necessarily personal in the way you mean," said Jyn.
Cassian jumped into the conversation then, introduced Jyn, and let her explain the problem.
"I need you to look at this database for signs of tampering."  She set a plastic crate on the table; its walls are cloudy but Cassian can see racks of data sticks inside.  "The master copy is in here, and so are all the offsite backups."
"What priority is this, compared to the other things?" Conder wanted to know.
He and Jyn had hashed this out on the way here.    "Top.  It's very time-sensitive."  Hundreds of personnel are mustering out every day, and some percentage of them will be requesting their stored gametes.  He's told the process of distribution has already started.
"It would help if I had some idea what to look for."
"Isn't it better if you go in with no preconceptions?"
Kyl smiled politely.  "In theory, yes.  In practice, not always.  Especially if time is a factor."
Jyn sighed and glanced at Cassian.  He made an open-handed gesture, signaling that it was her decision.  She took a deep breath and said, "Roughly two weeks ago I was told that a sample had been designated for me.  I—the Republic needs to know if any entries concerning that sample are fraudulent or have been altered in any way.  That's the only real lead we have.  But we need to know about the integrity of the entire database."  She handed her datapad to Kyl.  "This is the information about my sample, and a report concerning my visit to the vault."
Kyl glanced at her datapad.  "Is this because the guy was an ex-Imperial?"
Jyn lifted her chin.  "I've known several ex-Imperials.  Bodhi Rook was a fine person and a loyal member of the Alliance.  If he wanted his children to exist in the galaxy, he deserves for that to happen.  I wouldn't necessarily volunteer myself, nor do I believe he would have volunteered me without at least leaving a note, or asking me in advance.  That's part of what's caused some personal and official concern.  We don't even know if the sample is genuine.  It hasn't been examined.  Whether it's genuine or falsified in some way, it needs to be disturbed as little as possible."
"I see."  Kyl made some notes on his own datapad.  "I'll be in touch as soon as possible."
"Thank you," said Jyn.  Cassian barely had time to nod agreement before Jyn was hauling him out the door after tossing some credits on the table to cover the tab.
"You'll never get that back, you know," said Cassian.
"That's not what I'm worried about losing."  She muscled him into her vehicle, waiting impatiently for him to secure the restraints, and took off.
"Are you kidnapping me?" Cassian asked.
"There's a walk-in clinic for former Alliance personnel.  I can take you to it.  Can't make you go, but I hope you will."
Silence fell until Jyn pulled up beside a plain unmarked building.  "Here we are."  She pointed.  "I'll walk inside with you if you want, or wait here, or take you back to that sad excuse for a living space if you want.  Or I will kidnap you, if that's what you want.  The Alliance had me kidnapped, after all.  Seems like a fair trade."
"We broke you out of prison," Cassian protested.  Jyn tilted her head.  "Is this a threat, Jyn?  Do this, or I lose you?"
Jyn shook her head.  "I'm worried that if you don't get some help you'll lose yourself, Cass.  You're tearing yourself to pieces.  And it's for politics, not for the cause.  It isn't worth it."
More silence.  Cassian undid the restraints, because they were uncomfortable, but didn't move.
"Tell me a way to serve the cause without the politics," he said finally, "and I'll do it."
Jyn made a face.  "I'm afraid at this stage it's all politics.  I'm not surprised you let yourself be talked into it.  I'm also not surprised that it's driving you insane, and that you're awful at it.  It's okay to have a breaking point.  You showed me that."  She leaned over and touched his cheek.  He leaned into the touch.
"Walk me inside," he said finally.  He sent a message to the office, letting them know he was going to the clinic, and climbed out of the car.  Jyn walked up the ramp with him, took a chair while he spoke to the intake droid, and waited for his name to be called.
***
It took weeks, but eventually Cassian began to feel more like himself again.  He slapped on the medpatch he was prescribed, and complied with his therapist's suggestions as much as he could.  Jyn accepted a short-term contract with the Alliance that she doesn't talk about much, but he suspected that it involves visiting Alliance data storage repositories, collecting copies, and bringing them back to Kyl to examine.
Cassian's workload was lessened.  He wrote policy papers and compiled old reports, but he doesn't end up in nearly as many meetings.  It's much more like what was in the contract he signed.
Finally, he heard through Jyn that Kyl has a report.  "I got permission to share it with you," she said, over dinner.  "And some other relevant information."
He set his chopsticks down and focused on her.  "Tell me."
"The data record corresponding to the sample that was ostensibly Bodhi's was inserted into the database at some point after his death."  She sighed wearily.  "It's been analyzed.  It's from a human male with some genetic markers consistent with Jedhan origin, but it isn't Bodhi's.  No other falsified records were found in the database, and data integrity concerning other samples was apparently unaffected."
Cassian nodded, and reached over to squeeze her hand.
She squeezed back, and continued, "The sample has gone back into secure storage, in case we can ever find its origin, but that will be like trying to find one specific seed in a pile of bantha shit.  Nothing can be proven, at least not yet, but Conder says the data alteration methodology is consistent with a couple of specific criminal syndicates.  And that your separation contract was altered after you signed it.  I was told to mention a couple of names to you: Tolwar Wartol, and Sinjir Rath Velus."
Cassian closed his eyes, then opened them again.  "Tolwar Wartol is a political rival of the Chancellor.  Sinjir is a member of a ... problem-solving team, you might say.  Not that kind of problem-solving," he added.  "But if Wartol was involved, and Sinjir's team is working on it, you can rest assured the problem will be handled in a way that makes the Chancellor happy.  Legally and maybe even justly."  He knew he sounded a little bitter.  "Eventually."
He watched Jyn unclench her jaw.
"I cannot wait," she said finally, "to permanently leave this planet."
"Me neither, love.  Me neither."
***
The day Cassian's contract ended, he handed over his security access tokens, signed what felt like 20 copies of slight variations on the same form, and handed the keys to his apartment over to the management agency.  He was assured in advance that his contract wouldn't be extended, and given a minor commendation, a certificate stating he was honorably separated from the ranks of the Alliance, and the agreed-upon discharge compensation.  Jyn was doing some last-minute shopping, and will meet him at the spaceport to board a liner that will take them toward Fest.
"Did you find what you were shopping for?" he asked, settling into a seat across the table from her.  She's in a little lounge near their gate.  All their luggage is aboard, except for a small crossbody-strap carryall she's wearing.
She poked his shoulder.  "More or less.  I was desperately looking for an excuse to avoid going to the political heart of the Republic ever again."  She set a small box on the table.  "I did get you something, though."
He opens it.  A lightly polished cream-colored stone of some sort is resting on a bed of dried Chandrilan balmgrass.  "What is it?" he asked, curious, picking up the silver chain the stone hung on.
She flushed a little; her hand went to the place where her kyber crystal necklace rested under her shirt.  "My mother was a geologist, you know.  She told me about this kind of stone once.  It's shocked quartz.  You find it at places where meteors have hit.  If you look at it under a microscope it's got this amazing rainbow iridescence.  Anyway—I have a necklace, you have a necklace, we can match now, or whatever."
He raised his eyebrows.  "Jyn, are you saying your mother would approve of me?"
She laughed a little.  "Yeah.  Yeah, I guess I am."
He smiled at her.  "I'm glad."  He slipped the necklace over his head, adjusted it so that the pendant was under his shirt, and leaned across the table to kiss her.

Being in Scott McCall’s pack isn’t easy, there’s always a supernatural threat killing people or bringing them back, you are always injured and you could swear that if it weren’t because of Lydia and Stiles cleverness, everyone would be dead by now.
Today was a rough day for sure, but not because of the supernatural, it was simpler than that, today was a bad day because Theo Raeken was back in Beacon Hills.
It’s been two weeks and you can’t believe he’s here, breathing and acting like nothing happened, sure, “I was in literal hell paying for the crime of murdering my sister when I was a kid, no big deal.”
Your intuition hasn’t always been the best, but if there’s something you’ll never be wrong about, is that Theo is not to be trusted. You learned that the hard way.
Your eyes wondered while you entered the hall, looking for your locker when you saw him standing there, just like he was a year ago, your mind took you to that firsts weeks when you first met him.
“He’s staring, again” Lydia rolled her eyes, closing her locker.
You looked over your shoulder, Theo was talking to some girl but he wasn’t paying much attention to her, he was looking at you, the moment he realized you were looking back a small smile spread across his lips, you huffed in annoyance.
“Is he never going to stop that?” you complained, slamming the door of your locker, causing Lydia to jump. “I’m sorry, that was loud.”
“Why do you hate him so much?” She asked, walking beside you.
“Because when we were kids, he used to be a major asshole to us: Scott, Stiles and I, always making fun of us, he was a mean little shit.”
Lydia giggle “Just like any other kid, y/n”
“No, you don’t understand” you mumbled, entering the classroom and sitting next to your friend “He was Satan’s child”
After a few days, you get used to his presence, you even considered to be his acquaintance, it wouldn’t hurt to try and see when he came up to you one day when you were studying at the library.
“Please pretend to be my girlfriend.”
“Excuse you?” You looked up from your book, frowning.
“Look, I wouldn’t be asking you this if it weren’t important,” He said with a serious face “But I’ve tried everything to be part of the pack, and Scott still don’t trust me fully, I don’t know what else to do so I thought-”
“You thought that if Scott sees you dating one of his best friends, he will accept you?” you cut him out “No offense, dude, but that’s stupid.”
“C’mon, y/n, you’re my only hope”
“Why me? Lydia is also single and is very good at acting”
“Because Lydia is Stiles’ crush, he hates me enough without trying to date the girl he likes, the point here is to make them trust me not hate me even more”
“But he’s dating Malia right now...”
“You think that’s gonna stop him from hating me anyway?”
“If I do this and you fucked things up they’re gonna hate me too for making them trust you!” you whispered angrily “I’ll lose my friends”
“I promise you won’t” He slowly moved his hand towards yours, you stood up abruptly, picking up your things and hanging your backpack over your shoulder.
“I have to think about it,” you said, “I’ll give you my final answer tomorrow morning.”
“Fine” He answered, getting up from his seat “Thank you”
“Don’t thank me yet.”
That night you talked to Lydia over the phone for hours.
“Okay, but he finally asked you out, are you seriously going to reject him?”
You groaned, you had told her that he had “asked you out” because you didn’t think it was a good idea to let her know it was all fake and that he only wanted to win their trust by cheating, now that you think about it, that was a clear sign that he wasn’t a good person.
“Lydia but I don’t like him!”
“How are you so sure if you haven’t had a conversation with him in years?” She asked, “Okay, I can’t believe I’m doing this but let’s make a deal.”
“Really?” you sat on your bed, feeling curious “I’m listening.”
“If you go out on a date with Theo, I promise I’ll go out... with Stiles.”
“What?” You laughed “Lydia that’s not fair, you can’t date Stiles, he’s with Malia.”
“I know that” She replied sounding flustered “but if for some terrible reason they break up- not that I’m wishing them that!- I promise that I’ll say yes if Stiles ask me out no matter what.”
“Are you sure you’re doing this for me or are you doing this because you’re secretly crushing on my best friend?” You smirked, hearing her gasp dramatically.
“I do this for you, idiot! I want you to be happy”
“Sure” you nodded, even though she couldn’t see you “Fine, Lydia.”
“Does this means what I think it means?”
“Yes I’ll go out with Theo, but I can’t promise I’ll like it!”
“That’s enough for me” she chuckled.
Next day you stepped out of Stiles’ jeep, shaking slightly and wanting to run to the other direction, you told him you’ll see him later on the day and walked as fast as you could to your locker, hoping to get there before Theo.
Unfortunately, Theo was already there.
“Hey y/n” He smiled “Have you made a decision?”
“I’ve decided” you breathed out, your whole body screaming in panic “I’ll do it.”
He was about to hug you when you stepped back, pushing him away.
“One condition.”
“What?”
“If you fuck up, you’ll take full responsibility and leave me alone for the rest of my life, you and I... we’re not friends and I want to stay that way.”
“What if I become part of the pack?” He frowned “You’ll have to see me every day”
“If you become part of the pack we’ll simply say that our whole relationship didn’t work as we thought it would and we decided to stay friends, we can have a peaceful relationship of acquaintances.”
“Okay,” He agreed, not looking too convinced.
“Now shut up and hold my hand, we have to make this look convincing!” You urged him, grabbing his hand and walking to your next class.
Days passed and things were going pretty well, at first Stiles stopped talking to you, he seemed to be really offended that one of his best friends had betrayed him like that, but after you talked to him, giving the most ridiculous talk, using every cliche in the book for explaining him why did you agree to date Theo he accepted it, he didn’t like it, but at least he was talking to you again.
But then everything started to feel a little more complicated. At first you and Theo never actually did something cute in front of the others, so obviously they started to suspect, you had no other option than to kiss, and hug, and do some other nasty things couples usually do. That wasn’t a big deal either, the problem was that you had started to actually like it.
You were growing worried by the second, scared of what your feelings were doing to you, starting to think of a way to get rid of him, but everything was useless, you liked Theo.
And just when you were about to give in, that’s when all fell apart. You were right since the start, Theo was evil, not only evil. He wasn’t Satan’s child, he was Satan itself. You were horrified, not only you helped him but you forced the others to let him in, some of your friends had almost died and it was all your fault.
They never said anything to you, Scott reassured you time and time again that you didn’t have the fault but nothing seemed to make you feel better, you were completely devastated.
It took you months to feel less guilty, and just when things start to look brighter, he decides is a good moment to come back and make you miserable once more.
You were a year younger than Lydia, Scott, Stiles, and Malia, and this was the first year you spent without any of them around you to make you some company. Of course, there was Liam and Mason, etc. But it wasn’t the same.
You had Scott and the girls for a few days more after they all go away from Beacon Hills and start a new life away but you wished you could go with them, or at least that one of them could stay. Unfortunately, the only person you didn’t want around was the only one who clearly wanted to stay.
You walked past Theo, completely ignoring him while you were looking at your phone, pretending to be texting to someone, when he suddenly grabbed you by the arm and dragged you out with him.
“Please, let me talk”
“Let you talk?” you spit out, your voice filled with venom “You, the person I decided to help and then used me to hurt my family.”
“I know that was wrong, I made a mistake and I wish I could go back in time and fix things, y/n” He said all of this quickly, like scared of the possibility of you storming out without letting him finish “I am not a good person, but I changed.”
You laughed, though it didn’t sound happy “You didn’t change”
“I swear I did!” He stared at you with such intensity that you stopped breathing for a moment “y/n, I admit that when I asked you to be my girlfriend I was doing it because of selfish reasons. But then it changed.”
“I don’t want to hear it” you quickly respond, your heart pounding against your chest “Stop.”
“You can go and never believe a thing that I’m saying” He added slowly “But you have to believe at least this one thing, I’ve never felt this way before and I’m terrified, to be honest.”
“Felt how?” you asked, a knot in your throat making it hard to say “with the power of making someone miserable without even trying? You... you broke my heart, Theo.”
He opened his mouth, struggling to find the right words, but you turned around, tears threatening to leave your eyes at any second. “I have to go now” you muttered.
That afternoon, after watching Liam’s lacrosse practice and talk a little with Scott about college you decided it was time for you to go home, and while you were walking to the parking lot, you saw Theo and The school’s counselor talking, you frowned, thinking that it didn’t make sense since he’s supposed to be “graduated”, so you decided to walk a little closer to hear what they were saying.
Suddenly, the woman pulled a gun out and pointed Theo with it, you gasped adrenaline running through your veins you ran out of your hiding spot and stood between Theo and the woman.
“y/n, what are you doing here?” she asked, looking all innocent.
“What are you doing?” you exclaimed, “you’re pointing a gun to a boy!”
“He’s not a boy, he’s a monster” She replied, “Look at his eyes!”
You turned around to look a Theo, he was looking down at his shoes, but you could hear him groan.
“Theo” you called him “Theo, Please look at me.”
He looked up at you with bright blue eyes, his breath hitching “She gave me something, I- I can’t stop.”
“What did you do?!” you asked, tears rolling down your cheeks.
“Move!” She commanded you “I don’t want to hurt you!”
“No.” You replied, helping Theo to stay on his feet “you’ll have to kill me first.”
“Werewolves are not to be trusted,” She said heatedly “they’re dangerous, they’re monsters. I won’t let them win!”
And she pulled the trigger.
You closed your eyes, waiting to feel some kind of blinding pain, to see your blood painting your clothes, instead, you heard Theo screaming and falling to his knees.
Your heart skipped a beat when you realized, it was him who was bleeding. You look for the woman, but she was nowhere to be seen.
“Theo, stay with me, please” You mumbled, panic running through your veins “don’t do this, you can’t die!”
“I can’t? that’s funny, I think I did that a while ago” He mentioned, pressing one hand on his stomach.
“Now is not the time for jokes, you asshole!” you were a crying mess and you weren’t even sure of why “You have to stay here! you can’t leave me alone.”
“I thought you didn’t want me around”
“I-I don’t!” You tried to stand up, Scott and Liam were probably still training, maybe they even heard the whole thing, but Theo stopped you, holding your arm “Go on then, tell me. Tell me you don’t love me.”
“I can’t” You tried to be calm, knowing that panicking wasn’t the option “I said I didn’t want to be around you, you hurt me Theo, and the worst part is that for a second I thought that maybe I could be happy with you but I was wrong, I shouldn’t feel this way after all you did to me and after all this time, but I love you and I am terrified.”
His eyes widened a little, they weren’t bright blue now, but they still sparkle, you bit your lip avoiding to cry and hold his hand, letting him rest his head on your lap.
“Please, don’t leave me.”
