Unfinished Friday
@wolfpants had the genius idea of sharing an excerpt from an abandoned WIP - I did a cheer read on the start of the fic and I can promise all the dron/dronarry fans that they are in for a treat when wolf does finish it!
this is a very fun idea for a post. i just dug through my docs and found SO MANY abandoned fics, why am i like this.
I have absolutely no recollection of this fic - the doc is called Livvy future fic and iirc it's one of three i started and abandoned as gifts for @sitp-recs😂and according to the one note i made, it's based on that tumblr post about Ron being a Seer. It ends mid-sentence 😅 I have to say I really want to read more of this so I might try to remember what I wanted to write and revisit it once my long fic is finished. The premise seems to be that the war is still raging and Draco defects and joins the Order (they are all adults). CW for Draco having been beaten up/injured. it's obvs unedited so apols for any clunkiness or typos
“But I don’t even like him,” Harry says, but Remus frowns at him, more disappointed than disapproving, and Malfoy looks as though he wants to say something rude back, which Harry would actually love. But then Malfoy tightens his lips, all the irritation carefully tweaked and smoothed from his face, a sort of social polite disinterest that reminds Harry of Sirius in Order meetings, and how had he never noticed how alike they look, even down to the matching gleam of candleflame on their long hair, bright and dark like empty mirrors of each other.
“I have options,” is all Malfoy says in reply, but Ron blows a raspberry at that until Percy elbows him, and Hermione says rudely, “Like what? Going on the run and dying at wandpoint within about two days? Because that plan’s been working out well for you so far.”
“Can we please just take a vote?” Kingsley is impatient, and rightly so; he hasn’t slept properly in weeks, probably, like the rest of them. Harry wants to vote no, he really does, but Malfoy starts quietly gathering his cloak around him, face stupid with pride, eyes blacked up and spongey like damaged fruit. It’s spite, mostly, that has Harry scribbling a yes, though in the end it wouldn’t have mattered anyway, because the vote to let Malfoy stay passes at twelve in favour, seven against, which is more decisive than even Remus was expecting, judging by the look on his face.
“He can take the back attic,” Sirius says decisively, still the casual master of the house he hates so much, and Kreacher appears with a resentful crack to clear the plates as the others gather themselves to get home before the Floo curfew.
Harry follows Sirius closely up the stairs, almost treading on the back of his big boots, Malfoy moving almost soundlessly behind them.
“Voila,” Sirius says, and with a sweep of one arm ushers Malfoy into a real letdown of a room, practically Muggle this high up, no heat to speak of, not even a good view, nothing but the dreadful garden and the blank face of the back wall of the house behind.
“This is—” Malfoy starts.
Harry waits, tense, though Sirius just looks amused and almost gleeful, but Malfoy doesn’t finish. He sets his small rucksack down beside the bed, and walks over to the window, throws it up like a challenge, so the room buzzes with the distant sounds of a London night.
“Thank you,” Malfoy says, and Sirius nods and pads out. Malfoy watches him go, his face abruptly whitening up, like salt or puddled wax.
“You don’t get to be ungrateful about it, you know,” Harry tells him, stung by the look on Malfoy’s face.
“I don’t like you either,” is all Malfoy says, quietly but so viciously that Harry knows he means every word, then Sirius sticks his head back around the door and, seeing Harry’s face, bundles Harry out the door and back down two flights of stairs, where there’s at least a proper fire in the drawing room and the windows don’t rattle in the wind.
“Congratulations on your trial being overturned, Mr Malfoy,” Minerva says when she sees him, and Malfoy smiles tiredly and tries to push back his damp hair with his gauntleted hand.
 ***
Ron’s visions are getting worse, and Harry spends his twenty-sixth birthday preparing to brew Dreamless Sleep with Malfoy, because the new Ministry has reclassified Sopophorous Beans as a restricted product and all the apothecaries are running low. They can Apparate to Peterlee but that’s as close to the wards as they can get without their magical signatures being picked up, and it’s still a two-hour broom flight from there. Malfoy doesn’t even grumble even though it’s the hottest summer in years and by the time they arrive, their travelling cloaks are stuck to their backs with sweat.
“It was a sham,” Harry tells her. “They had no evidence, just a whole load of trumped up charges.”
They both look at him with raised eyebrows, and Harry makes a grateful retreat to the greenhouses where Professor Sprout and Neville have sackfuls of illicit produce waiting for him, which they spend a hot and grumpy hour rigging into a complicated harness to attach between the two brooms for the journey home. When Harry finally escapes, he goes down to the Lake for a swim. There’s no one around, all the students gone home, and Harry floats, feeling boneless, scoured clean by sun, belly up.
He doesn’t mean to eavesdrop on Malfoy and Minerva, but he supposes they must not hear him coming. He’s still barefoot when he reaches the castle, clutching his grubby travelling clothes in his arms, the cooler air of the castle a delicious chill where it chases the water droplets on his skin.
“I need to look into it further,” Malfoy is saying, though Minerva speaks over him crisply, and they could almost be back at school.
“It’s absolutely no indication of any guaranteed outcome, Draco.”
Malfoy’s voice is getting higher and tighter, wound up to cracking. “It’s got to mean something though, Min. Don’t try to tell me you’re—”
“Temporal magic is notoriously unstable,” Minerva says, and then Harry drops one of his boots with a thump, and Malfoy and Minerva come around the corner to see what’s happening.
Malfoy goes red when he sees Harry, a crawling
A CRAWLING WHAT, PAST TACKY???
i'm tagging anyone who has docs filled with treasures languishing, plus @fluxweeed @thehoneybeet @maesterchill @m0srael @oknowkiss @saxamophone @shealwaysreads @sweet-s0rr0w

Hey just curious and excited, about how many words do you expect your dark! Thor grandthorki fic to be and (you don’t have to answer this one if you think it might be a spoiler) will it have a happy ending? I mean will Thor be a good brother/kind to Loki again? ^_^
I think maybe about 30-40k words? Based on the wordcount and the feeling of where I am in the story arc right now! Though, whether I can finish this in time for my post date (nov 15th iirc) is starting to make me REALLY nervous lmao, so I’m glad I decided to go solo track with little-to-no consequence. (God it’ll be nice to potentially do writing things when I’m NOT in school next year and expected to regularly write creative shit to get an A, which drains my energy like nothing else lmfao). Though i will at the VERY least be posting it as a WIP, which will be at least 1/3 done if not more on Nov 15th.
[Spoilers ahead]
As to whether it will have a happy ending - I think I actually answered this question before but I want to again because I want attention lmfaooo and I love spoiling ppl about things that will happen in my writing mwahaha! But anyway one thing that really drew me to this idea was not… like… giving it a sad ending… but giving it an ambiguously happy ending. Where things both work out and kinda don’t work out at the same time. Where it’s gonna be kinda difficult to fix things but it won’t be impossible.
So like a happy ending but with a sad twist is kinda my goal with this fic.
Will Thor be a good brother/kind to Loki again? Absolutely, yes! This is the happy part of the ending! But will Thor be the same good, kind brother that he used to be? No. Never. Will Loki ever feel safe around Thor again? Unlikely. That will be the sad part of the ending.
So it’s a mixed bag, but if it makes you feel better, I never want to make a reader leave my fic feeling sad (unless there’s plans for a sequel). I want to leave my reader feeling hopeful. That’s honestly the core of why I write. So even though it’s a happy-sad ending, you won’t walk away hating life lmfao, if that makes sense.
Anyway I did show my @teleris-night an excerpt from a place around the middle of the fic, which I will post here because why not, it somewhat answers the questionnnn with more hint of detail:
Thor’s breath hitched and the couch cushion shifted. “You must hate me,” he said.
Loki folded his hands in his lap and stared at them instead of the moonlight. He didn’t dare speak in so fragile a moment. Besides, Thor didn’t seem like he wanted an answer anyway.
“What they did to me,” Thor continued, “is what I’ve done to you. Over and over. I’ve—beaten you—and raped you and—” He cut off, and the silence filled the room to the brim, threatening to burst. The couch shifted again, and Thor’s breathing came harsh and heavy. “You told me that night, no matter what I would’ve done to you, that you would be there for me. I can’t imagine that you meant it.”
“I meant it,” Loki said. His grip on his own hands tightened hard enough to bruise his fingers.
Thor laughed, sending tremors through the couch. “I don’t believe you. You have every right to abandon me now.”
“I’m here, aren’t I?”
Anyway eeee thank you so much for the ask and the compliment anon! You’re too kind wahhh

Writer Ask
(I wasn’t tagged or anything, but I was bored and felt like rambling a little, so I just answered the whole list.)
What age-group do you write?
Mostly YA, but I occasionally border into adult.
What genre do you write?
Fantasy is my go-to, but I’ve dabbled in Contemporary, Horror, and Sci-fi from time to time over the years.
Do you outline according to big ideas or small details?
I’m not great at outlining, but if there’s ever anything (big or small) that I feel the need to write notes on, then I’ll do a little brainstorming so I have a document on hand if I need it.
Which do you prefer–line-editing or plot-revisions?
Plot revisions. It’s frustrating as hell, but I like to make sure everything is as it should be for the purpose of the story.
Do you write better with or without deadlines?
Neither, honestly. Deadlines don’t compel me to get things done, they just stress me out, and no deadlines also stress me out because … it just gives me more reason not to do anything, and then I just feel really bad about it, which makes me not want to do it more. It’s a never ending cycle that I desperately need to break.
What would be the biggest compliment you could hope to receive on your current WIP?
That it’s actually interesting enough to keep readers wanting more.
How long is your current WIP?
It’s still sitting at 40k, but right now I’m abandoning it for something new which is still in the planning stages.
What author would you be most excited to be compared to?
I have no idea. I guess any of the most well-known YA writers.
What do you struggle most with as a writer?
Consistency. I’m forever fighting with myself to get more words down and finish something.
Do you brain-storm story ideas alone or with others?
Mostly alone. Sometimes I have a friend who likes to bounce ideas around with me, but writing has always been such a lonely thing for me.
Do you base your characters off of real people?
Not really. I did it once, but now that I’m rewriting that particular novel, the characters have become their own people.
Is your writing space clean or cluttered?
A bit of both. I like to be organised but there’s not much room, so I just make do.
Do you write character-driven or plot-driven stories?
I think I always fall on the character-driven side. I try to focus more on plot when it’s necessary but it never feels good enough to me, so that’s pretty difficult.
Do you have a favorite writing-related quote?
Something about shovelling sand into a box to later make sandcastles? I don’t know. I’ve seen so many quotes about writing, but not many stand out.
If you transport your original characters into another author’s world, which world would you choose?
I’d like to see them in Throne of Glass. I think giving over my characters to SJM would be a fangirl moment for me, just to see what she would do with them.
Would your story work better as a movie or tv show? Why?
That’s hard to say. Freefall would probably be a movie. But the world of The Divine … maybe a show.
Do you make soundtracks for each story?
I’ve started to! I create playlists on Spotify for them.
If you could assign your story one song, what would it be?
When the Sun Goes Down - Tommee Profitt
Would you rather live in your characters’ world, or have your characters come live in our world?
Characters’ world. I wouldn’t want them to be ordinary.
What book would you love to see adapted for the big or small screen?
I don’t know. I’m open to any - my biggest gripe with most book-to-movie is the production teams behind them. It’s gotta be right. Stop messing with cheap production value on Fantasy.
Do you finish most of the stories you start?
Nope!
Has your own writing ever made you cry?
Yes.
Are you proud or anxious to show off your writing?
Neither, I guess. I like to show my stuff once I consider it a decent standard, and then I enjoy gaining feedback just to see if there’s anything I never considered or maybe missed.
When did you start considering yourself a writer?
Probably when I was around 17. I was writing a bunch of teen drama drabbles and got a lot of readers/likes/comments. That was when I think I really started to consider trying to make some kind of career out of it.
What books are must-reads in your genre?
Stuff by Brandon Sanderson, Brent Weeks, Sarah J Maas, Laini Taylor. So, like, Throne of Glass, Mistborn, Daughter of Smoke and Bone, and The Black Prism. There’s honestly so many, just scour goodreads and dive in.
What would you like to see more of in your genre?
Can I go with less? Like, don't get me wrong, Fantasy is my favourite genre, but the political intrigue part can get really heavy, and really drawn out, really fast. It’s my least favourite part about Fantasy, but unfortunately is a massive convention of that genre. Also, I think I clearly need to read more Fantasy that’s a bit more gruelling - I’ve read so many books that came so close to being dark and tragic, and then shies away from it to make way for happy endings. And Happily Ever Babies. No thank you.
Where do you get inspiration from?
I used to get it from other books, movies, and video games. At this point in time, though … I’m not entirely sure.
On a scale of 1-10, how much do you stress about choosing character names?
Not at all, really. If I don’t think of a name right away that I feel fits the character, then I give them a placeholder name until I find the right one.
Do you tend to underwrite or overwrite in a first draft?
Probably underwrite. Maybe even half and half.
Does writing calm you down or stress you out?
Mostly calms me down, depending on how much pressure I’m feeling that day.
What trope do you actually like?
Friends to lovers. Cold guy with violence in his veins actually has a soft heart. The Chosen One.  Parents are conveniently absent. Slow burn. Protagonist has to die to save the day (but actually die).
That’s just off the top of my head. I’m okay with most tropes to be honest.
Do you give your side-characters extensive backstories?
I never used to, but I’m starting to build on that more these days.
Do you flesh-out characters before you write, or let their personalities develop over time?
I write down the basics such as appearance and/or particular quirks or personality traits. But most of the time, the personalities develop on their own, and a lot of what I originally intended them to be doesn’t work out.
Describe your old writing in one word.
Amateur.
Is it more fun to write villains or heroes?
I really enjoy writing heroes - I love giving them their darkest moments and their epic comebacks.
Do you write with a black and white sense of morality?
No.
What’s one piece of advice you would give to new writers?
Write what you want and take every single piece of writing advice with a grain of salt. Not everything you read or try to make your writing better will work for you, so find what does, and don't worry about what everyone else is doing.
What’s one piece of writing advice you try–but fail–to follow?
Set a wordcount goal every day and stick to it in order to form a better and consistent writing habit. I’ve tried and failed this countless times.
How important is positive reinforcement to you as a writer?
Personally, I don’t know. I think it’s important to know the difference between criticism and constructive criticism, though, and that you don’t have to make the changes suggested by others to what you’ve written or where you intend to go with the story.
What would you ask your favorite author if given one question?
How the hell do you do it?
Do you find it distracting to read while you’re writing a first draft?
Not at all. I actually think it helps me a lot.
Do critiques motivate or discourage you?
It’s subjective, unfortunately. Sometimes it’s helpful, and sometimes it isn’t. Sometimes you get feedback from someone who knows what they’re talking about, and sometimes you get utter nonsense. So … learn the difference.
Do you tend to write protagonists like yourself or unlike yourself?
There’s definitely some amount of myself reflected in them. I learnt that while studying self-reflection in prose at university a few years ago.
Our class basically had to sit around a table and discuss personal process within our writing and what messages we think we might be trying to convey within our work. It soon moved on to whether or not we imagine ourselves as the protagonists (because that’s a popular writer stereotype) in our stories. Most of our answers were ‘no’, but most of us did discover a lot of links between the two.
For instance, the majority of my protagonists have always been orphans. No parents, no siblings. I didn’t grow up without a family or siblings, but my familial relationships have always been super strained my whole life. Instead of trying to write positive familial relationships, it was easier to cut them out entirely and replace it with the Found Family trope instead.
How do you decide what story idea to work on?
Whichever one has been running around my head the most at the time is usually the one I end up getting the itch to write.
Do you find it harder or easier to write when you’re stressed out?
Harder.
What Hogwarts house would your protagonist(s) be in?
I don’t know, and I don’t care.
Where do you see yourself as a writer in five years?
Nowhere. And that’s not trying to be self-deprecating. I’m literally struggling to hold on to my passion for it lately. You know how most writers imagine seeing their book on a shelf someday? I don’t get that. Not anymore. Or at least not at this point in time.
Would you ever co-write?
I would! It would depend on a few things, but I like the thought of it.
Are you a fast and rushed writer or a slow and deliberate writer?
Slow and deliberate. I’d like to be fast, but it’s just not in me.
Would you rather be remembered for your fantastic world-building or your lifelike characters?
I don’t know. Characters, probably.

Love Affair With a Vampire by jacinth (6k)
"There aren't enough words in any language to even begin describing my feelings for you, Louis Tomlinson."
Series: Part 1 of Eternity
Love Endless (The Road to Recollection) by wubwubnparmaham (172k)
The year is groovy 1973, and eighteen-year-old Louis Tomlinson is perhaps the gayest teen to ever grace the gloomy, hateful town of Fortwright. Would be fine if he wasn't so viciously bullied at both home and school for such a "harmful" sexual preference.
Yeah, yeah, we've all heard this story, haven't we?Believe him, Louis didn't think he was anything special either.
Until he found the mansion. The notoriously haunted mansion hidden deep within the forests of his tiny blip of a town in Bumfuck Nowhere, Idaho. No one with a brain ever goes near it, but Louis could use a little excitement in his life...and possibly a Band-Aid or two.
After discovering the mansion was less abandoned than he'd thought, he's now left with the most riveting mystery of a lifetime; every new finding leaving him with more questions. Who is this elusive owner, and why won't they show themselves? Why is there a set of journals in the same handwriting that span over centuries? Why in the world is there a padlock on the refrigerator...and who the hell is Alexander?
[Book 1/4]
Series: Part 1 of Love Endless
Luscious blood by Deidei (117k)
Louis Tomlinson, a human, has been living in poor living conditions together with his mother since he was born. Ever since he can remember he has loathed the stronger, faster, more developed kind that rule this world; Vampires. But will his opinion change after he meets his soul mate that is an arrogant, royal vampire named Harry Styles…
My beautiful wolf by Larry_love22, Night_shark_out (WIP,73k+) ( ps - this is vampire/werewolf Harry with human Louis so it sort of fits? )
Harry Styles is the king of the Vampires and Werewolf and the most powerful creature in this World.Louis is a sweet, caring, shy, loving, adorable and innocent almost 16 years boy who fall in love with the dangerous boy.He didn't think that he has a chance to ever talk to Harry ,nor be his friend (or something more), but he's wrong because he's the reason Harry came here - to get his mate-and also he don't know what Harry is and how much his life changed since the moment Harry walked in .
Nocturnal Creatures Are Not So Prudent by patdkitten (25k)
Louis spins a finger in midair, like he’s indicating someone to turn around, staring pointedly at Liam as the faucet turns itself on and the can rinses itself in the sink behind him. Liam, moon burn him, doesn't rise to the bait, choosing instead to lean back on his stool and wrapping his hands around his own mug.
“Anyway, like I was saying and that you were ignoring, there's this new club near my school and I want you to go with me. Could do you some good, getting out once in awhile.”
Louis is a white witch with a little black cat named Hemlock and a best human friend Liam (they're a lot like Samantha Stephens and Louise Tate). When he's dragged out to a new club Liam's heard about from a friend and classmate, Louis comes face to face with that which witches do not touch: a charming vampire by the name of Harry.
The Fragmented Veil by missberrycake (28k)
In which Louis gets attacked one night in the dark. It changes his life, just not in the way he expected.
These arms were made to protect you by Larry_IsLIFE (WIP, 32k+)
In a world where vampires and their fertiles have taken over, humans are oppressed and looked down upon. Harry Styles, the leader of the most powerful clan existing, has found the perfect mate in a beautiful boy named Louis. Except there's one teeny tiny problem...
Louis is not a fertile.
He's human.
Unfortunate (Your body is my body) by larrysbitchx (40k)
God works in mysterious and strange ways, some that affect you in a beneficial way and some that are unfortunate. Louis was born unfortunate. He was born a human, which in the vampire world would make him a slave. For anything really ‘entertainment’, a blood bank, a worker.
Waiting On You by emma1234 (77k)
“Vampires,” Louis says with disgust, glaring over at the vampire who is noisily slurping from the woman’s neck nearby.
Zayn gives the neat fang marks on Louis’ neck a meaningful look.
“Can’t live with them, can’t live without them,” Louis finishes, ignoring Zayn when he rolls his eyes.
Louis takes a long sip of his milkshake, presses his fingers against the marks on his neck, and definitely doesn’t think about the vampire who left them there.
