Potato soup for the heart pls if you have time to sit near a pot try this i promise its good even if you arent an irish peasant
i think i just fell in love with myself over the potato soup i made and i only just had a lil sip to see if anything is missing. So im sharing, if just for safekeeping Also this may seem like a lot of work but I have been doing this while simultaneously studying, so im kinda just sitting near the stove to make sure nothing boils over. But also it shouldnt since i never used more them medium heat.
1: Prepare Broth! i had about half a celery (the big round ones) and like 5 carrots (give and take 300g maybe?) as well as one onion (not a big vegetable one but a regular, white onion) and Rosemary Rosemary is my lover, she is in this with me together and without her i wouldnt be who i am as a person i have a pot of fresh rosemary in my kitchen and i will never ever live without her ever again i let the broth simmer all throughout the day yesterday and then kept it in the stove over night. The stove was off during the night tho, so like more of a cold tea approach after simmering for a couple hours prior
2: Boiling the potatos. Now you can just peel a bunch of potatos and toss them in some water. (I didnt measure or even count how many potatos i used. Just go with your heart.) And you will probably be fine. But! consider this: add a bit of salt, a teaspoon of instant broth (or some of the prepared one if you have enough) and Rosemary. I love her, still. Also i let them boil for a couple hours as well, on low heat because a) i need to mash them and the longer i boil them, the easier it is to mash them. And b) this way the potatos and the water really take in the flavour of the broth and rosemary. after the potatos are done, i took some of the water they were boiling in and got rid of the rest.
3: Mash. just mash the potatos. should be easy enough if they boiled for long enough. Once they are mashed, add the water you took off of them beforehand. Also, add in broth, so you get a pretty soupy consistency and mix it all together.
4: Soup. Technically you have soup now. I added some more chopped carrots, cause carrots and potatos are lovers and i could never seperate them. Also added some Wiener Würstchen, which you really dont need. I just always have them in my potato soup and im nothing if not a creature of Habit. You can also add more Rosemary, if you want. I didnt, for now. Also add some milk and butter. It makes the colour less grey-sludgy and more pale yellow. Also, butter is good for the heart (probably not) (it is if you love yourself tho) (if you're vegan this is the only part where you may need substitutes, margarine and oat should work fine, since its mostly for consistency and colour). Now let it simmer a bit longer, that way it thickens up a little. Also here you may taste to see if you need more salt, or smth. I added a bit of pepper but nothing else.
It is right inbetween the perfect potato soup my mom makes and lovingly prepared rosemary ovenpotatos. I think this is a love potion. If you are german and really love potatos, because you lived close to your grandma who is a little old fashion when it comes to food and makes potatos to just about everything. Honestly i would marry whoever makes me a good potatosoup without question. Extra: if youre feeling spicy, you can add currypowder, masala powder or even chili powder to it. Since its mostly potato and also already has milk (or similar) in it it can take quite a bit of spice without killing you. Believe me, i am white and have yet to die of Spicy Potato Soup.
If youre feeling under the weather or anything, just make this. Probably definetly the perfect food for Fall and Winter, but honestly i would eat it all year round. Its a hug in soup form. Which is not saying a lot since all soup is just liquid hugs. I really like soup. And rosemary.

i am a bit late on this. but i feel like this will have to be let out.
technoblade was an inspiration. is an inspiration. for a while, he was my world. in the trenches of 2020, where i was almost always one breakdown away from ending it, his videos were a light. when i couldnt sleep, id tune in to the skyblock playlist. when i was buried in online exams and late assignments, the mc storymode playlist kept me company. whenever i was sad, i would just tune in to his channel. whenever everything felt like it was crushing me, i would just listen to him ramble. the 2020 dsmp streams kept me alive, i think. because during the latter part of that year, when my mental health was so bad i was utterly convinced i would not make it past december, he was there. as stupid as it may sound, the fact that i had the chance of missing his streams kept me alive. i didnt want to die if techno would stream that day, or tomorrow, or next week, and then this extended and extended until i survived what may have been one of the worst years of my life alive and well. i could never thank him enough for that.
i am an artist. i never post anything - i am far too shy for that. but technos character, his storytelling, and just the ideas embedded into c!techno as a narrative entity has made me love art, love drawing, and has allowed me to develop so so much of my work that i feel will never be able to be separated from his inspiration. another thing he did that improved my life as a whole.
this isnt all of it. i dont think ive put everything i want to say to words, i dont think i’ll be able to. but. at its core. i want to thank technoblade for everything. thank you for keeping me alive. thank you for helping me grow. thank you for allowing me a safe home. even now, gone as he may be, the potato war videos still feel like coming home to a warm bowl of soup. fresh as the wound may be, the treasures he left will still help others, help me. you’ve been one of my favorite people, one of my inspirations, someone i genuinely wanted and still want to be for the better part of 2 years, and until the day i vanish ill hold what youve done for me in my heart. i wish i could tell him thank you, directly.
lastly. this whole thing reminds me of something. back in 2020, i studied the epic of gilgamesh for a literature class, and the key takeaway of gilgamesh’s quest for immortality is that its futile - but that, in how you affect people, and in how those people affect others, you become immortal. i hope i become someone worthy of immortalizing you. i hope what ill do in this world with the time i have will make the fragments of you you’ve allowed me to view a shining light, even to those who never knew you.
thank you for everything, and rest well, dear blood god.

taegi pls, thank you!
im sorry its so late !!! here you go, anon ♡
who cooks normally?:yoongi. taehyung was reprimanded in entering the kitchen for all eternity. (probably, until he learns that ingredients should be chopped into small pieces before putting them in the pot. one time, he tried to fit unchopped potatoes and carrots when he wanted to make a soup. the result was not pleasing at all.)
how often do they fight?:a lot. it’s a love-hate relationship, as they call it. sometimes they fight about the smallest of things but yoongi will end up tolerating taehyung because that’s what you do right, when you love someone, you accept them even when they tried to tell you that turtles are like aquatic birds.
what do they do when they’re away from each other?:video call until they fall asleep. although yoongi’s always the one to fall asleep, taehyung can’t help but look affectionately at the man on the screen of his phone, slowly and steadily breathing.
nicknames for each other?:taehyung likes to call yoongi nicknames: yoongles. syubbie. my sweet, sweet sugar. my d-babyboy. yoongi heard taehyung called him daddy jokingly, he never found another favorite pet name eversince.
who is more likely to pay for dinner?:taehyung tries to impress yoongi most of the time. if he can pay for dinner, he does. it’s all worth it because of the gummy smile yoongi gives him.
who steals the covers at night?:yoongi's portion of the blanket is much bigger than taehyung's. but that’s okay because taehyung can easily spoon him at night and the blanket will be long forgotten in the morning.
what would they get each other for gifts?:for their anniversary, taehyung had this “great” idea that he should be put inside a box and be the gift himself. so he did and yoongi definitely couldnt ask for more. on the other hand, yoongi being yoongi, bought the most expensive rolex watches, one for him and one for his better half.
who remembers things?:taehyung’s forgetful most of the time but he makes it up to yoongi. in the sheets. with nobody but them.
who cusses more?:yoongi cusses more than necessary, taehyung reprimanded him and one more cuss hyung and you won’t receive kisses from me ever again.
what would they do if the other one was hurt?:nobody dared though, because damn god help anyone who disrespects yoongi. most importantly, taehyung. because as much as he can accept people hurting him, he wouldnt be able to permit anybody who will hurt kim taehyung.
who kissed who first?:taehyung kissed yoongi when the 7 of them decided to play truth or dare. it was just a dare, he thought. he tried to avoid all thoughts about a gorgeous pale-skinned boy that night. only to wake up with longingness on his lips.
who made the first move?:yoongi actually does not want to admit his feelings but he found himself sitting on a couch with a pretending-to-be-drunk taehyung, blabbering about his pent-up frustration on how he can’t control his damn emotions when it comes to taehyung.
who started the relationship?tae stopped his acting immediately and shouts, with excitement present in his voice, “YESYESFINALLYYOONGIHYUNGWECANLIVEHAPPILYEVERAFTER”. yoongi thought taehyung would faint because he wasn’t breathing while saying the whole sentence. he was still partly shocked but he did what he could to reciprocate tae’s reaction. [read: he kissed him]
i hope you like it anon even tho its rushed and crammed and stuffed into a one big giant idk. : ( sorry for the errors and bec i tend to put some nsfw without knowing if you want it like that. anyway, thank you for asking! ❁

Canoe, Toronto, Canada
Along with Antler, Canoe was the most anticipated of our restaurant stops. In fact, since my friend chose this as her actual birthday dinner, this could have been the top choice. We were all looking forward to enjoying their tasting menu, which was why we chose Canoe for this occasion! The restaurant is right downtown at the top of a highrise, 54th floor, if I remember correctly. Even on a Monday, a reservation is a must. Walking in, the setting is elegant and distinguished! After a quick look around the restaurant, your eyes are immediately drawn to the stunning views of the city!! Definitely one of the aspects of this restaurant that gets people to come here. Hoping that the food lives up to the views and the setting! We were seated, ordered cocktails and took a look at the menu as well as the wine list. Both offered numerous options; the wine list being particularly varied and interesting! As we looked at the food menu, we saw a few items on the tasting that not be what we were looking for and we changed courses back to the regular menu. We ended up picking a few items off of the tasting, but a la carte and ordered the rest from the regular menu. I ordered a northern woods mushroom soup to start. My friends added Quebec foie gras as well as a smoked boudin and sweetbreads! My soup was rich with an earthy flavor. The variety of mushroom types was noticeable, the dollop of cream brought it together perfectly. The other starters were also excellent, the highlight being the unique presentation of the smoked dish. It was brought under glass and lifted so the smoke would escape, leaving the aroma behind. Outstanding presentation!! A great start to our experience!! After ordering a mid course of venison tartare, I chose a Canadian pinot noir that was not too light and had some nice layers of flavor. At the same time, I was looking for a fuller bodied bottle, most likely French with some age, for our main course. The venison was accompanied by black pudding and duck parfait, another great choice. The subtle flavor of the tartare was surprisingly well paired with both the pudding, not my personal favorite, as well as the parfait. Even the wine turned out to be a great match for this dish!! My choice for main course was the tournedos Rossini served with foie gras and braised shin. The birthday girl enjoyed their tamarack lamb with spring vegetables and shepherd's pie. Our other friend was not as hungry and ordered oysters, which were split between BC and NS! I had spied a 2007 left bank Bordeaux on the list that looked like a great wine as well as a great value. You only live once so a little splurge was in order!! This particular evening, the birthday girl made the best choice!! Her lamb was amazing and the side of shepherd's pie was like no other that I had ever tried!! Even the petite potatoes with lardons were outstanding!! The oysters were also very good, with quite a difference in flavor between the east and west coast varieties. As for my dish, I was a little disappointed as the tournedos themselves were not really well cooked. They were quite dry and even with the sauce, I wasn't loving them. The rest of the plate, particularly the shin, was excellent. I couldnt tell if it was overcooked or if it wasnt a great cut of meat. That was definitely disappointing. What helped a lot was the wine, which had dark berry as well as tobacco and mushroom notes. The aging added complexity as well as a deep, rich color. And it also seemed to compliment both of the meat entrees very well. As amazing as the evening was going, I was happy to forgive my meat not being up to par. Another high point was the service, which was impeccable!! He helped us put together our choices with great suggestions and also gave me good direction with the wine list. He definitely enhanced our experience greatly!! Overall, despite my main course issues, I would still recommend Canoe! From the atmosphere and spectacular views to the excellent, friendly service as well as mostly outstanding food, this was still a memorable experience!! With regards to value and price, this meal was, by far, our most expensive of our time in Toronto. Value was good, considering everything involved but this is a very expensive restaurant, not one that you would enjoy on a regular basis. It is a great splurge spot for a special occasion and worth a visit while you are in Toronto!! Have a great day!!

When Alice Waters Fell in Love With Garlic
Some of the restaurants we went to werent fancy at all. At Yuet Lee in Chinatown, we ordered salt and pepper squidand at Tommasos, I loved the pizzas with garlic. I absolutely fell for that, and those were probably the first times I truly noticed and appreciated garlic. There was some sort of convergence of taste for methe garlic flavor was associated with that taste of really good food from the wood oven.
As you know by now, garlic became a huge obsession at Chez Panisse after we started doing an annual Bastille Day garlic festival in 1976. We used a lot more garlic at the restaurant after that. More than anything, it was about awareness. We learned that you couldnt chop all your garlic for the whole night ahead of timeyou had to chop it as you went along, so it wouldnt oxidize. And the stronger the garlic got, the longer you had to cook itusually it was at its strongest around Christmas, January, and February. You had to take out the little green sprout in the middle of each clove, because that could be bitter. And we learned that garlic is spoiled when its burned or browned in any way. I can tell right away when I go into a restaurant with bad garlic.
We learned, too, that there is more to garlic than the papery white heads; when the garlic is growing and you thin a row so that the heads can mature and grow to full size, the young green garlic shoots you pull up are delicious, too. We experimented with a soup in the springtime made from that green garlic, from what had been thinned. I loved the taste of that soupit was so pure, a really gentle flavor. Wed make it with potatoes and even stewed some of the green tops for garnish. You always want garlic to taste like that. Its so rare, though. I think we invented that soup on our ownI dont remember getting a recipe for it, although various recipes existed out there. I just know we responded to that unique taste. We made that soup for James Beard the first time he came to the restaurant. It was in the early days, and wed referred to it on the menu as young garlic. James said, very emphatically, You dont call it young garlicits green garlic! He knew all about it.
