‘777’ (PREVIEW)
pairing(s): Jake Kiszka x Reader, Josh Kiszka x Reader
wc: 800+
warnings: bickering, child abuse
a/n: Hello there! Welcome to my first foray into the world of GVF fanfiction (not my first rodeo with fan fiction in general though)! I decided I would drop a tiny preview to dust off my writing abilities, see if anyone's interested. This is my first time writing in the whole 'x reader' second person format and my first time writing on this website as a whole so forgive me if it's rough in those regards. Fates willing, this will be a series and the idea for it came to me while listening to 'seven' by Taylor Swift, hence the name. Enjoy! Feedback is greatly appreciated. And just for context sake (that's not necessary until I get the rest of the chapter out), this is a flashback.

------------------------------------------------------
“We should play pirates!” Jake exclaims as he walks up the grassy hill towards a familiar picturesque tree in the middle of the field, a staple hangout spot at this point. You turn your head to face Josh, gauging his reaction. By the roll of his eyes, you can tell he’s not a fan of that idea. His ambivalence leaves you giggling. Whenever you’d hang out with the Kiszka twins, it very often resulted in you just following along with what the boys wanted to do… which also led to you sitting idling while they bicker and fight over who gets their way. It was always quite the sight to see as an only child.
He lets out a dramatic groan and whines, “We played pirates yesterday. I wanna play something else.” Jake gives his brother a glare before his eyes soften as they land on you.
“You wanna play pirates, right, (Y/N)?” You shrug, not really wanting to get in between the two. You were pretty meek and indecisive to begin with, but having to choose one boy or the other left you feeling stressed, even with the mildest disputes. “C’mon, it’ll be fun.” We all reach the tree and sit against it, one boy on either side of you.
Looking over at Josh, you watch as his face of disinterest morphs into something more mischievous. He’s clearly got an idea, probably to the dismay of his twin. “We can play pirates… only if (Y/N) gets to be captain.” Jake’s face contorts with a mixed bag of emotions. Happy to play pirates? Confused at Josh’s condition? Upset that he can’t be captain? He was always a bit of a control freak, especially when it came to what he wanted. Before he could even protest, Josh cuts him off. “I’m the oldest so what I say goes.” He gives you a toothy grin, lighty nudging you. Even at that age, he knew that that would always push his buttons. He’d constantly bring it up, even during situations where it didn’t matter at all.
“By five minutes.” A biter scoff escapes him while he shakes his head. He takes a moment of pause and sighs, looking at you. “Do you even want to be captain? You’re never captain.”
“Because you’re always captain!”
“Shut up, Josh.” He quips back, not even averting his eyes from you. The question is repeated. “Do you want to be captain, (Y/N)?” You wring your hands and slightly wince, shrinking in on yourself. You never liked being put on the spot. Your stomach would churn and your heart would race. You didn’t want to upset Jake by taking his role of captain, but you also didn’t want to subject Josh to another samey game of pirates. The spiral of thoughts are quelled by the feeling of Jake placing something into your palm. An eye patch.
A childish transfer of power that left you with an uncontrollable grin. Josh rises from the ground and practically cheers before standing at attention. “Aye aye, Captain (Y/N)!” Jake follows suit, leaping to his feet to do so. Giggling as you get up, you place the eye patch over your eye and ball your fists at your hips, standing stoically.
“Call me… Captain Sunshine!” you speak firmly, a newfound confidence in your ‘authoritative’ position. “We’re nice pirates this time.” Jake falters, cocking his brow with a confused look.
“Pirates are supposed to be tough an-”
“Aye aye, Captain Sunshine!” Josh shouts over Jake’s disagreements. He nudges his brother who’s still staring with bewilderment. Jake huffs out a breath and straightens out once again.
“Aye aye… Captain Sunshine,” he mutters flatly. You’re well aware of Jake’s hesitancy to play pirates your way, but with Josh’s encouragement, you three continue on. Exploring ‘new’ territory, climbing trees, and collecting treasures (which mostly just entailed cool looking rocks); you felt better noting Jake actually having fun. He nitpicked the way you did things a few times, but not nearly as much as you would’ve expected from him.
You and the twins were having so much fun that you weren’t even paying attention to time flying by. Everything was going great until you heard the stern clearing of a throat behind you. You immediately froze while the color drained from your face. “(Y/N),” the gruff and low voice sends chills down your spine. Slowly, you turn to face him, your father. The boys do the same, but with less fear and more confusion than you. Without a word, you pull off the eye patch and place it into Jake’s hand, shaking as you withdraw from him.
The short interaction must’ve been too long for the man because he firmly grabs your wrist, tugging you away from your friends. It causes you to quietly yelp, but with another jerking motion, he releases you in front of him. You stumble a few steps while finding your ground and keep walking. Head down save for the brief glance you take back at Jake and Josh, worry in their eyes. You hated them seeing you like this. You hated seeing them like this. Unfortunately, most of your hangouts seemed to end this way. Or worse.
