"Great!" Danny says, clapping his hands together to get everyone's attention. The dinner table falls silent as everyone looks towards him. It's a full house today and, honestly, Danny's a little nervous. "I'm sure you're all wondering why I gathered you here today."

"It's dinnertime. In our house." Duke mutters, while doing a very bad job of concealing his yawn. He holds his fork poised over the braised beef, but, just like everyone else, still looks towards Danny before tucking in. It's intriguing enough to wait.

"Yeah, no one misses Alfie's dinner." Dick says, with a brilliant smile that Danny can't help but return.

"Precisely! What better time to talk to you all than when you're all actually here!"

"Wait, I thought you came round to work on our English essays?" Tim asks, blinking owlishly.

"I'm afraid I've lured you here under false pretences, Tim."

"This is where I live."

"I would still really appreciate help on that essay though, I mean, what the hell is Hamlet even about? I just don't get that old time-y language, like 'Hark! A ghost hath killed me!' - absolute rubbish, what does that even mean?"

"The ghost never kills anyone in Hamlet, he's there to tell Hamlet that he was murdered. Have you actually read it?"

"No, but it sounds like you have. Tim, I want this guy to help me with my essay instead. I know for a fact that you haven't read Hamlet, either."

"So? We don't need Jason, I've read the Sparknotes."

"Hi Jason, I'm Danny, pleasure to meet you, summarise Hamlet in three sentences or less."

"Am I auditioning to help you write your essays? I can't believe you’ve gone through your whole school life without reading it, it’s good!"

"Hamlet, along with a number of other classics, was banned in our house because it portrayed ghosts as intelligent and sympathetic beings rather than evil, animalistic beasts. I didn’t even get to see The Muppet's Christmas Carol until last year with Tim! It was surprisingly good, and I hate Christmas because everyone always argued and it sucked. But we're getting off topic. I—"

"No, no, please go back to that, because what the fu—"

"Boys, please." Bruce interrupts, looking to the world as if he wants to hang his head in his hands. "Danny, you were about to say something?"

"Oh, yeah, Mr. Wayne! Thanks!"

"Please, call me Bruce."

"Well, that very succinctly brings me to my point, because I'd actually really like to call you dad."

Nobody says a word. Nobody even blinks, all as shocked as the other, watching open-mouthed as Danny pulls his laptop out from beside his chair. Bruce can definitely feel a headache coming on.

"Before you say anything, I've prepared a 69 slide PowerPoint presentation on why you, Bruce Wayne, should adopt me, Danny Last-Name-Pending. Please save your questions, comments, and verdict until the end, thank you."

- Your parents were away for a whole week for a huge job opportunity that could change your life for the better, so they left you money so you wouldn’t actually starve to death.

- back then no other take out was as popular as the classic, pizza

- you invited Nancy, Steve and Jonathan over so you wouldn’t be all alone, of course with the permission from your parents.

- it was getting late and the local pizza place was about to close in 20 minutes so you huridly called and ordered 2 large cheese pizzas with (whatever else you like) ontop.

- the man on the other line sounded rather annoyed that you were calling so close to closing time but he took your information.

- about half an hour later you heard a hard knock on the door (ass if someone was pissed)

- the loud noise causes you to jump but you laugh it off because obviously it was the pizza guy

- you grabbed the money off the table and yelled “be right there” as you hopped across the floor to the door

- you swing it open and see a boy.

- his facial expressions as tired and annoyed but it instantly changed when he saw you.

- your cheeks instantly turn a bright pink color and you shift awkwardly.

- he smiles and wags his tongue between his teeth and speaks

- “Billy. Billy Hargrove.” He sticks out his hand and gently grabs your hand and shakes it.

- you were dumb founded and all you could do was smile.

- “that’ll be $20.65 sweetheart” he says lowly which nEARLY sends you into a fit of moans.

- you smile and tell him to keep the change and he nods and continues to use that shit eating grin on you.

- you go to take the pizzas but he pulls them away. “These are actually really hot so I thought I could just carry them in for you, don’t want those pretty little fingers getting burnt now do we?” He aske in a reading manner.

- your heart DRILLS in your chest but you nod.

- you step back and let him in. Everyone turns to look at the strange boy coming into the house untill Steve realizes it’s Billy.

- “Howdy Harrington” Billy taunts but Steve just ignores him.

- you come up behind Billy and stand awkwardly and Billy looks over.

- “where do you want it princess?” His eyes are a deep shade of blue as he flicks his gaze up and down you.

- you inhale deeply and let it go. “Over there, in the kitchen.” You point and you walk behind him.

- he sets the pizza’s down and spins on his heels to face you. He leans on the counter and reaches into the cookie jar and pulls out a cookie.

- “you knew around here y/n?” He asks and runs his finger over the cookie. You instantly blush

- “cause I haven’t seen you around before, and I definitely would forget a pretty face like yours.” He seductivly bites into the cookie and watches you.

- he nods and swallows.

fandom: endless summer. for: @hwu-jaymin​, as part of @choicesimaginesandmore​ story swap. pairing: jake mckenzie/jay. ( main character. )

it’s hard, even now, to really believe it. the island of la huerta fades ever so s l o w l y from her gaze, until it’s only a speck of green in the distance, until it’s impossible to see at all, lost in a se of blue.. it’s ridiculous, maybe ( definitely ), but for an instant, jay nearly feels a twinge of sadness. the island, even through it all, had become familiar. still, though— ❝ good riddance. ❞

❝ took the words right out of my mouth. i can’t believe we made it out. ❞  lazily, she leans back, hair catching the sunlight as she offers jake a smile. these days, it’s nearly impossible not to ʙᴇᴀᴍ at him. it’s almost like she’s thirteen again, with her first crush on a boy in her grade, filled with butterflies and stuck silent whenever he even so much as g l a n c e s her way. she’s fought sabertooths and giant crabs and mutants, but nothing manages to make her as nervous as this boy does.

the boy in question shrugs, face uncharacteristically serious. ❝ i can, ❞ he admits, as he takes a seat next to her, gently bumping her shoulder. even that slightest touch feels like— like lightning, almost, like she is all copper, threading electric light through her bones, lit up by simply the brush of skin against skin. god, she really is an awkward teenager again, isn’t she ?  ❝ of course you got us out, ❞ jake continues, and she starts back to attention,  ❝ i always believed in you, princess. ❞

and that’s— not what she expected him to say. silently, she thanks her parents from the dark skin that mostly manages to hide the furious blush blooming across her cheeks, around her neck, down to her collarbone. how many times has she heard that nickname before ? and yet, here, heading home, it feels more real. more t e m p o r a r y.

not for the first time, she wonders what will happen to their little ragtag group, now that they’re not trapped together. she’d promised quinn, so long ago, that they would always stay friends. but that had been another time. another ᴡᴏʀʟᴅ. they’d said a lot to each other, then just to manage the days. it might be easier, now, to try to forget.

❝ hellooo ? princess ?  —jay. ❞

she looks up with a start, more that a little surprised at the sound of her name, unfamiliar from him. at least, odd to hear when they’re not— anyway. ❝ yeah, sorry, ❞ she says, hesitating before she continues, ❝ i just— it’s going to be weird not seeing you everyday. …kind of relieving, though. ❞

the joke falls flat, voice heavy with something she cannot ( won’t ) put a name to. ( dangerous, to love someone such as him. the first day, they’d met, he’d told her how much he hated being tied down. and yet, she’d fallen anyway. )

jake doesn’t seem to notice, or maybe he’s kind of enough to ignore it. either way, there’s a roll of his eyes, coupled with a snort. ❝ oh, she’s a comedian, ❞ he drawls, then pauses,  ❝ …that’s actually what i wanted to talk to you about. i… i have something for you. ❞

his hands take one of her own, pressing something smooth into her palm, and folding her fingers over it. she glances down, and freezes. ❝ your, ❞ her breath catches, almost imperceptibly, and she has to start again, ❝ your dog tags ?  jake, i… are you sure you want to give them to me ? ❞  he only shrugs, looking away, but she knows him well enough to see behind the ғᴀᴄᴀᴅᴇ of casualness. ❝ like you said, princess, who knows when we’ll see each other again ? this way, you won’t forget me. ❞

she laughs at that, a faint, startled thing, but real.  ❝ jake, ❞ she says, the words soft,  ❝ i could never forget you. ❞

❝ yeah ? ❞ he asks, gaze locking to hers again, the intensity of it stealing her breath, ❝ you made quite an impression yourself, y’now. ❞ there’s no reply, but a shy smile, and he has leaned close to her, eyes flaring green in the s u n l i g h t spilling down. he does not move back, and she does not pull away.

❝ jay, ❞ he says, and she has never heard her name said like that before in her life. a thumb glides over her bottom lip, and he bends and kisses her, softly first, at the corner of her mouth, then a deliberate thing full against her lips. she presses into him, surprised by her own boldness, fingers tangling into his shirt and tugging him, closer, closer, until there is nothing between them save the slide of skin and press of mouths, burning her up from the inside out.

the dog tags, nearly forgotten, dig into her palm, and she grips them all the more tighter. hers, she thinks, and kisses jake once more. hers.
