THE CASE OF THE MAN WHO TWO-THIRDS WASN’T THERE • @glisteningceruleaneyes (sorry for not tagging you originally, I didn’t realise you had a tumblr account!!)

Three-and-one-third bodies have been found in an abandoned vehicle on the riverbank.

It would be a challenging case even without the bad weather, weapons smuggling, white nationalists, industrial accidents, and the concept of pedigree dog breeds—but over it all hangs one troubling question: What is it that fascinates you about Kim Kitsuragi? Is it working class camaraderie? A sinister hex of mysterious origin? Did you imprint on him in Martinaise, like an amnesiac duckling? If you don’t figure out what’s going on soon, people are going to start to notice. Especially him. And sooner or later? Everything is related to the case.

Oh boy did this one take a long time!!!! This was a lot of firsts for me (curved spine, hand painting the back/front covers and spine) and while it only further cemented for me that I REALLY need a proper press, I’m actually really happy with how this turned out. And I also now finally have a color printer so I can do color images. Yayyyyy!!!!!

Honestly, Disco Elysium fics either leave me laughing my head off or an emotional wreck, and this one managed to do both spectacularly! Even rereading it for the nth time, there’s always something I chuckle at, and the finale is SOOOOO GOOD. I LOVE when DE fic writer incorporate La Revacholiere as like, an actual entity, and this fic has it in spades, on top of actually using the game’s script style formatting. I actually tried to incorporate as much of these elements as I could do the fonts are Sina Nova Medium for the text and Dobra Black for the headers (Same as the game!) Also, did I mention that it’s a different character perspective each chapter??? So Harry’s chapters have the game icons (Continue/end) for breaks while Kim’s have the thought bubbles. The bookcloth is Olive Green from TraditionalBookBinding and the fancy endpaper is TBBPM5, a super cool orange paper (Yah know…green and orange?) PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THINGS GO READ THIS FIC!!!!

Trillium and Ivy by @shastafirecracker

Nick Wolfwood is the new director of Conrad-Chapel Funeral Home in May City, located across the street from Saverem Greenhouse & Landscaping. Over time, the owner, Vash, gets to know Nick and introduces him to the rest of the neighborhood, including local busybodies and married feminist bookshop owners Meryl and Milly. Vash and Nick are inexorably drawn to each other until they have to start admitting their feelings.

But Vash's brother, co-owner of the garden center, hasn't left his past as far behind as the twins had hoped when they started their lives over in May.

I love this fic, and I love this book even if it endeavoured to kick my ass the entirety of its binding!!! From realising I had run out of board, to consistent laptop and printer issues and going back and forth on the paper and color choices…..but I loved how it ended up! I also ended up watching the entirety of the Trigun dub again while binding this, as well as all of the dub Stampede episodes lol.

Also!!! Check out the most perfect font I found for the headers!!! All the text conversations have also been transcribed into actual text as well - even if I wasn’t able to print them in color🥲

I have plans further down the line to bind the rest of this series, hence the ‘1’ on the spine, but I have a few other fics on the list above it, including but not limited to a bunch of DE fics and possibly some Yakuza stuff? Also Demon Slayer, and BrownieFox’s Detours, which is shaping up to be a monster of a binding.

And of course as usual, the best quote of all time for the wonderful Vashwood pairing, hidden on the book cover💜

After a series of unfortunate events, Clancy Jarvis decides to accept a cameraman job offer for his friend's ghost-hunting docuseries. However, this decision proves to be the worst one he's ever made when he and his new colleagues find themselves venturing into the Bakers' haunted mansion in Dulvey, Louisiana. He soon becomes the sole survivor of the group and is then turned into an unwilling captive of the crazy family that lived there. Clancy is determined to survive whatever horrors he is forced to face but little did he know that he's piqued the curiosity and interest of a genius sociopath hell-bent on keeping him there with him.

Here it is!!!! This is the big one that I’ve been planning out in the back of my mind since I first heard of bookbinding. I originally formatted this out ages ago as the first bind I wanted to do, before deciding that I didn’t have the skills nor experience (or a color printer😅) to this give work the proper treatment it deserved, but now I’m able to give you the double whammy of the Mongoose and Snake Editions to match our two main characters, Clancy and Lucas. Please, please, please go check this out, it was an absolute joy to beta this fic and go give the incredible Bianx some love! She was kind enough to put up with my horrible end of year schedule and my slow ass editing towards the end of this fic, so please go give her all the compliments she deserves!! You can also see all the amazing art she commissioned that made its way into this binding on her page too! Also, check out the incredible @zhalfirin who’s Brelik poems binding was the inspiration for this cover. And don’t worry, we’ll be back to our regularly scheduled Disco bindings in no time😆✌🏻

When it comes binding stories what lengths are typical? Like is there a minimum word count that’s ‘worth it’?

Hello, hi!!! Hmmmm, I wouldn't say there is, but it would depend on your preference? I mean you could make it very teensey tiny (I know some awesome binders who do like minature bindings that are so cute) but at minimum I like to stick to above 10,000 - 20, 000 words. The smallest and shortest binding I've done is this one here, which is two short stories in one (7000 and 6000 words individually) which is about the size of a glue stick - the writing is tiny! It was also very hard to format for printing but the Renegade Bindery group has a very handy tool that does all the formatting for you for tiny printing like that.

I want to get back more into bookbinding but I've recently come to a realization that I have most likely been wildly depressed and burnt out for like....two or three years now and have been running on empty for so long that I no longer have the passion that I once had for things I enjoyed, simply because I just have no time. I have a list! Of fics! I want to bind again, I just...don't know when that will be.

Tada!! Here’s one of the side projects I’ve been working on these past few months, a doll of one of my OC’s, Hyoryu Mertenmist, the Embodiment of Loneliness! His facial embroidery was really fun to work on, even if I only realised towards the end that the way the tracing worked meant that everything was flipped from the original image….There’s definitely significant room for improvement lmao, you can tell that this is my first time as the stitch work is really sloppy, and some things aren’t symmetrical/exact, and I definitely need to re do that tooth, but overall I’m really happy with how it came out. And it only took me about four days or so!

The colors of the eyes are my favourite part…the photos doesn’t really do them justice, but I couldn’t find the correct reds from the reference, so I went with a lot subtler and perhaps a tinge pinker/oranger towards the end? Gradient of reds, which creates this super subtle color shift between the three that makes the orange highlight pop…almost jewel tones now that I’m thinking about it. It’s the part I’m super happy about if you can’t tell.

This doll is set a few years after the main sort of story he’s from, so there’s definitely a lot of design choices in this that reflect that, and maybe one day I’ll do his pre end of story design which differs drastically from this. If you want to to know more about him, or his design or the choices I’ve made, hit me up!! I’d love to talk about this for days lol

Update!

We have now moved on from printing into the text block stage! So many pages!

360 pages totalling 15 signatures…not as many as Misery, but still a decent sized book!

I had also wanted to do some small color stuff throughout, but for some reason the file I was formatting everything in was completely messed up and when I went to fix it, the file got corrupted and I lost everything so

My laptop is so old…It can barely hold a charge, none of the keys work, it’s slower than a snail and keeps corrupting my documents whenever I try and work on them but I can’t afford a new laptop right now😭😭 What’s a binder to do lol. Also, any progress pics will now be kept under the Trillium and Ivy and in progress tags!

Anyway! Next stage is sewing!

I’m back!!!! I took a little extended break over the holidays, but I wanted to give a little sneak peek of my next bind, for a fandom that’s sort of consumed me right now👀 10 points if anyone can guess it!

No this is not silly at all!!!!! You’re my very first ask!! I always see you reblogging my posts, and it makes me smile. Thank you for telling me that you like the stuff I make, it makes me really really happy to hear that!! I was having a pretty bad morning up until this point, when I saw this, and it made me feel a lot better actually.

And I love your stuff!! I love your Pokemon and Disco Elysium art, especially the animation you made. I think I probably listened to Dancing Queen on repeat for like the next two days, and I think i’ve watched it like three times now? I guess what I’m trying to say is thank you!!! My next binding! I actually started to work on this one concurrently to Browniefox’s copy of ‘The Haunting of Ryunosuke Naruhodo’, but I didn’t have time, and only just finished recently, and apart from the last signature being too small, I’m really happy with this one! ‘Stay the night with the sinners’ by @bodhirookes is my all time favourite shyan fic, and it’s honestly what got me back into the ghoul boys in the first place, and what finally pushed me to finish watching s7, even more so with the announcement of Watcher! Every line feels like a gut punch in the best way possible, and the world feels fleshed out and truly passionately lived in and you KNOW I love me some angel/demon.
