Tell me about Jensen's very first job.
oh i love this question. jensens first job was at a sort of hybrid hobby shop/flea market type deal. it looks an overrun storage shed the first time you walk in, but it starts to make more sense as you find different aisles and alcoves
his boss at the time, mark quince, became the closest thing to a father figure that he had. he was rough around the edges, fun and entertaining, but closed off, but he also had a major soft spot for jensen. jensen was clearly a bit of a messed up kid with a shitty home life. even if he was vague, mark could tell his income would not just be for himself
he gave jensen more of the fun jobs and didn't call him out when he got distracted in the comics or old instruments or anything else he found interesting. he didn't let him do nothing, of course, but he also knew there was a lot more going on than what jensen was willing to share. he gave him more specialized jobs and skills as he spent more time working there, especially because he could tell jensen appreciated being useful for once
as for the job itself, it consisted of a lot of checking over products, making sure it was priced right according to the vendors, and generally keeping the walkways walkable (if you could even call it that). he also did plenty of research on different one off items that came in, making sure they weren't under- or overpriced
if you want anything more specific lmk!! but that's the general rundown :)

Not exactly BB question, but what do you think about Masaki's situation after Grand Fisher? She was an ehit quincy, to some kind of hollow-quincy hybrid-ish, lost most of her power by auswallen(is the spelling even right?) and then eaten by a hollow, and (maybe, probably) freed from the said hollow after Isshin slayed it. Than, since quincy doesnt have tolerance to hollow attack, she should have died, and we dont know what happen to a quincy when they survive the aushwallen, or if a soul can go to soul society if the hollow who ate it was slayed. Than again, for a manga dealing with soul reapers and afterlife, Bleach doesn't cover that much about those aspects after first arc.
On BB question, how does Karin and Yuzu react to their (second) first impression of cousin Kai? They met him before, but like Ichigo, they forgot about him because they meet him when they were so young. Theres just no way ther could remember him, right?
I have two opinions on that:
Option one: we're supposed to believe that as a Quincy, her soul was destroyed/dissolved when it was consumed by Grand Fisher. Since Hollow reiatsu is toxic to Quinces, it was completely destroyed. In essense, Masaki was deleted from existence.
Option two: Masaki's soul did still exist in the Grand Fisher the way all souls a Hollow consumes still exist in one fashion or another, and Isshin killing Grand Fisher released it back into the cycle of reincarnation. The individual 'Masaki Kurosaki' is gone forever, but her soul has been liberated and is free to be reborn.
Both function for the sake of the narrative. Someone once pointed out to me the tragedy of Ichigo's ability to travel to the afterlife, he can come and go as he pleases but he'll never be able to see his mother again.
BB time:
Yuzu and Karin know of Kaien, as Cousin Kai travelling over seas for work. (Ichigo hasn't banged the rock together yet. Other matters have taken up his attention, we're getting there.)
He left when they were about six months old because Aizen shenanigans. So while he couldn't be there in person, he did send along gifts for birthdays+other special occasions and postcards from travelling.
A scene I've written but haven't found a way to squeeze in yet is the sisters happening upon Kaien in the City while shopping for the house.
At first they presume, by which I mean Yuzu bawls her eyes out, Ichigo dyed his hair, grew a mullet, got into a gang fight (the scar) and went full delinquent with the tattoo, until -"You're not Ichigo." Karin points out, trying to pry Yuzu off this strange lookalike and apologising for the trouble.
Kaien finds this all hysterical and reassures the sisters (by name) that it happens all the time. Karin is sus because 'how can you know our names' and accuses Kaien of being a stalker, Kaien grumbles about hurting his feeling. They talk a little, Kaien jokingly lists off the various presents he's sent them over the years, even describing the last postcard he sent that should've arrived any day.
Yuzu glomps him again, this time with a delighted squeal of 'Cousin Kai!'. Karin's less sus, apologises for calling him a stalker which Kaien just laughs off, saying he'd be disappointed if Karin wasn't cautious then remarks she reminds Kaien of his sister.
Kaien would take them home once their shopping's done. Maybe have a chit-chat with Isshin and Ichigo before deciding to make tracks, but Yuzu exploits his ultimate weakness to make him stay for dinner: Baby sister puppy dog eyes.
They'd have a nice family chat over dinner, the twins bombarding him with questions about his travels, Ichigo gets in on it too when he discovers Kaien's been to England (specifically a region were a certain bard that Ichigo may or may not be a fan off used to live). At one point Karin would probably ask about the tattoo and scar, and Kaien would spin a technically-true story about how he and his wife were in an accident, and its his way of honouring her.
And its all nice and wholesome before shit hits the fan.

I know S&L has limited about of episodes per season, and limited amount of minutes per episode, but I wish we could have gotten at least a few moments
to explore Jon’s thoughts in the pilot after his parents reveal the truth to him. Did he believe he had powers? If so, how did he feel about it? Did he question his athletic achievement? Wonder if his football career was over, because he’d never be able enjoy playing knowing he had an advantage?
explore Jon’s fear of his wrist not healing, his relief when it did and wether he and/or his family were suspicious because of it
discussions about kryptonian biology and what the boy’s hybrid nature could mean and how little is known about it. Do kryptonians have a largely identical anatomy to humans? If not, do the boys resemble humans or kryptonians, or are they a mix of both?
that touch upon ow Clois dealt with health related issues regarding the boys. Did they worry about the boys going to the doctor and having to take drug tests because they are playing football, or about Jordan taking medication?
How much do the boys know about Krypton, and how do they feel about their heritage. It would be cool to see Clark offer to teach the boys about Krypton, and if so, how did they react. Or, alternatively have Clark mentioning that he isn’t going to do that yet, and if so, why not. Is he afraid they’ll reject his offer? Does he fear it’ll make them uncomfortable since their heritage is new to them? Does he want them to focus on adjusting to their new life in Smallville? Does he want to focus on doing normal stuff with the boys when he isn’t training Jordan? Does he fear they’ll feel pressure to make him happy and uphold the planet’s legacy and wants them to come to him about it? Since s1 was a lot about heritage and legacy (Tal-Rho’s plan, Jordan inheriting his powers, even just them moving to the Kent farm, Clark’s feelings on both his biological and adoptive parents being brought up several times) and s2 has brought the theme up several time as well (the el symbol, Cushing/Cortez name change and Sarah’s quinces, maybe even the misrepresenting the family line, Bizarro Kal-El choosing the name Jon-El, son of Kal-El for Jonathan-El and his comment about the “El family being a family of heroes”.) it feels like we should get a feel for how much Jordan and Jon know about their heritage.

Flowering Quince
Flowering quince blooms prior to foliation. Flowering crabapples are the same genus as fruiting crabapples. Flowering cherries are the same genus as fruiting cherries. Flowering quince, Chaenomeles spp., though, is not the same genus as fruiting quince. Available cultivars are generally floriferous but sterile hybrids. Only four basic species produce small fruit that are good for little more…

Activity 3: Climate Change and Agriculture in the UK and NL
Tumblr media
At the National Fruit Collection, thousands of fruit trees are maintained as a sort of living library of varietals. There are around 2200 species of apple, with two trees of each in case anything goes wrong. It is also a site of scientific research into effects on fruit and experiments in hybridization. Because the fruit trees in the collection are living organisms, they have limited lifespans, they are susceptible to disease, and they are sensitive to environmental changes.
Tumblr media
We missed the peak blooming of the quince and the cherry trees, but many of the apple trees, of which there are about 2200 varieties all blossoming and maturing at different rates, were still in full flower. Even though all of these 4400 trees (2 copies of each variety) are apples, each one of them has its own requirements for growing and will only produce the best tasting fruit under specific conditions. One potential disadvantage of climate change is that with milder winters, many trees are not getting the downtime they require to produce optimal fruit, and unexpected late-spring frosts can cause significant losses or even kill trees if they are already stressed.
Tumblr media
However, hotter, drier weather may also have some advantages, as the climate of Britain potentially becomes more similar to the Mediterranean, allowing for the cold-weather species that do not fare well to be replaced with new varieties of fruit, such as more stone fruits like apricots, which are suited to a warmer environment. The photograph above shows the weather station located in the orchards, where the highest temperature in Britain was once recorded, since to be supplanted.
One of the main things about climate change is not that it is steadily growing hotter, but that it is growing hotter and in addition, weather is becoming more unpredictable. This makes it especially difficult for developing a contigency plan. I just hope they keep being able to make this delicious apple juice.
Tumblr media
At Denbies winery, the story of climate change is a little different. While some of the disadvantages are the same -- late frost can kill plants, for example -- there are also many benefits, mainly because Britain is just one the cusp of wine-growing areas. Grapes are incredibly sensitive and take on the flavour of the area where they're grown, which is known in French as 'terroir'. With its chalky soil, the area of the Sussex hills is similar to the Champagne region, so wine made in the same fashion as Champagne is a popular option here. Because of the cooler climate, other grape varieties come from Germany.
Tumblr media
Our tour guide mentioned that, due to the heat wave last year, the pinot noir grapes were much sweeter and less acidic, allowing them to experiment with trying some new styles of wine. He expects that this year will see some of their best wines yet hitting store shelves, and that's in part because of the changing climate. Again, the main issue with this is the element of the unexpected and balaning between their heritage varietals, which are more suited to the cooler climate, and introducing new ones that would prefer the hot.
A general theme for both tours was the possibility of pathogens spreading more widely as the climate changes. In both areas, plants are susceptible to pathogens because all or almost all of the apples/grapes/cherries use roostock from the same variety of their respective fruits, and if that rootstock turns out to be susceptibel to a new or resistant disease, then the whole plant will die.
In Newfoundland, our biodiversity is limited by our isolation as an island as well as our challenging weather and soil. Climate change may not necessarily have as big of an effect on Newfoundland agriculture, but that's just because compared to Britain, Newfoundland does not have as many people who rely on the agricultural sector for their livelihoods.
The commercial fruit trade in Newfoundland is almost non-existant, but of the few fruits that are eaten here, most are susceptible to environmental pressures. Bakeapples in particular are incredibly sensitive and already fetch a premium, as well as near-impossible to cultivate. Cycles of thawing and refreezing can also have a detrimental effect on both the taste and texture of berries. In addition, worsening storms may be caused by climate change, which can wipe out fruits directly. While warmer weather may allow us to grow more diverse fruit, we are limited by our soil, so it is unlikely we would have the same advantage to climate change as large fruit-growing regions like that of Kent.

Why Can’t You Trust Your Own Eyes: Part 1/?
You can not sleep now, there are monsters nearby, the server whispers.
Hannah jolts awake, the hilt of her sword leaping to her palm. The pale roses embedded in her skin sing with the promises of new life and colorful meadows. She grits her teeth and groans, flopping back into her bed. Listening to the babbling water, she stares up at the blackstone ceiling of her underground base.
Water splashes by the entrance, accompanied by a heavy grunt. Leaping to her feet, Hannah draws her sword and scowls at the two intruders. "What the hell're you doing here?"
The larger, scarier of the two steps in front of the other, holding up his paws appeasingly. "Chill, we didn't know this place was occupied. Just let us heal up, and we'll get outta your hair."
Hannah takes a cautious step towards him. He's some kind of pig hybrid: pink fur and ivory tusks and sturdy build; oddly familiar for some reason. But he's covered in blood, black and red and green mingling down his skin and matting in his mane. Several barbs from an Elder Guardian stick out from his arms and ribs. An arrow pokes from his shoulder. How is he still standing?
"It's not all mine," He chuffs at her confused and concerned look.
"Y-yeah, I can see that." Hannah lowers her sword. The other man peeks timidly out from behind his protector. His face is covered with a cracked mask. He's soaked, filthy, and leaking green blood from several wounds. It would be a mercy to kill them both, her roses hiss. Hannah's accustomed to dispensing mercy.
"Uhh, listen, we're not gonna steal any of your pots, but do you have any food? I can repay you later." The pig hybrid rests a gentle, cautious paw on the masked man's shoulder. "He's pretty badly hurt, and, ha, so am I, not gonna lie."
The memory clicks in her head. Technoblade. That's why he's familiar; he helped Quackity drive out the Eggpire from their own Banquet. Hannah's sword itches in her hand. She sheathes it. "Get deeper in," She orders, making up her mind.
They're on the run from someone, or something, and they're weak. Hannah could kill him, or she could turn him in to his hunters, and that would be one more enemy of the Eggpire down.
Technoblade nods and guides his companion down through her base. Hannah follows them, ready to draw her sword at any moment. But Technoblade limps, and the other leans on him, gasping in pain with every step. They've fought so hard just to get here. Something that is not the Egg unfurls in her heart, sharp like the thorns of a quince.
Hannah throws down two beds for them, deep in the torchlit blackstone halls. Technoblade sets his dying companion down on one, sets his respawn on the other, and leans against the wall. "Gonna kill me now?"
"I don't know what you mean," Hannah lies quickly.
Technoblade sighs, staring away at a flickering torch. "I'm not goin' after the Eggpire right now. We just need to heal."
"But you will," She notes coldly. "After you heal yourselves, then what?"
"We've kinda got more pressing matters on our hands, not gonna lie." Technoblade shrugs, trying to seem nonchalant, but Hannah can see the tension in his shoulders.
This isn't right, her roses hiss, and she should listen to them. She should contact Bad, contact someone. She could kill both of them herself right now; they're weak, they're at her mercy.
The blossoming pity in her heart strikes conflict.
"Welcome to my secret base, I guess," Hannah sighs, suppressing the sliver of pity as she offers a stack of bread. "Don't steal, don't grief, and don't mess with my stuff."
She'll keep an eye on them for now. Perhaps if she's kind to them, Technoblade will think twice before trying to interfere with the Eggpire again.
Technoblade takes the bread and offers some to his companion first. "Hey, it's not potatoes."
"Not hungry," He grumbles. Technoblade shrugs and leaves half the bread by their bed while he noms a few loaves.
Hannah leans against the opposite wall. "Who are you?"
Technoblade gives her a wary glance. "This is, uhh, my cousin, uh, Axel."
"I hate that name," Axel growls. "Techno, give me a cooler name."
"He hates his name," Technoblade says helpfully.
"Oh." Hannah doesn't quite know what to make of the obvious lie, but she lets it go.
Technoblade bobs his head to her. "Yeah, uh, thanks for your hospitality, by the way. Most people on this server prolly woulda killed us by now, not gonna lie."
"Just me," Axel mutters, "You're safe."
"Not if I'm in the line of fire protectin' you," Techno retorts casually back. Axel visibly relaxes, but still turns his head away with a quiet scoff.
Techno's wounds have started to close as the food takes effect. It's not as fast as a healing or regen pot, but Hannah's not wasting her precious resources on two refugees, much less an enemy of the Egg. Axel still hasn't eaten, but he's started contemplating a loaf of bread, at least. He turns away to lift his mask and nibble it. It takes one tiny bite before he loses his restraint and devours the bread hungrily. As his hunger's filled up, his wounds start to close up as well.
They're both still filthy, however, and getting the blood and mud all over the sheets and walls. With a huff, Hannah pushes herself away from the wall. "There's a hot spring farther down. Clean yourselves up once you're healed."
"K."
Hannah turns back and examines them. They're both unarmored, unarmed, and completely harmless. "You can sleep here for the night, too, I guess."
Just one night. That's all. Then they'll be on their way.
++++
AN: My AO3 is Rogue_Swordsmith. This is a lil idea I had, of Hannah taking in Techno and Dream after they escaped prison. Techno can’t contact the Syndicate atm, cause Sam is watching all communication channels, so they’re alone and on the run. ;p I might continue it, I might not, but if you feel inspired, you’re welcome to take this idea and run with it.

I told myself I wasn't going to take my late Aunt's roses and wolfsbane. Wolfsbane's infamously poisonous reputation has made me avoid it in the past (they also like moist gardens- which our gardens aren't), and all the roses are hybrid teas which I avoid cause hybrid teas go against my preference in roses; low maintenance. The Hellebore and white bleeding heart which I would've preferred did not come up in those gardens this year (last summer's drought was their nails in the coffin I guess). The flowering quince I'd like but its too big to dig up- I'll have to attempt cuttings and immature suckers.
But yesterday I saw the wolfsbane holding on its last thread in the bone dry shade of the backyard apple tree, and the roses fighting to grow in the other weed infested gardenbeds despite the deadwood getting in the way and I just-

I am a sucker for plants that fight against the odds stacked against them. I dug them up today on the last day that we are going to her place to finish prepping her house to be sold.
We'll see how well the wolfsbane fairs in the lilac garden, and how the roses fair in container culture (I'll have them beside the potted swamp roses after monitoring).

Roses are my faovurite, if you look up the differences between antique roses and hybrids, (antiques are my favourites) it's facinating. also, did you know apples and pears, and quinces, and even cherries and peaches (more distantly) are all roses (well...buckthorns)?

DBZOC
I’m not entirely sure why I was thinking of this while at work, but I was, so I’m going to write about it here. As a “child of the 90s,” I was one of many fans of Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball Z, and, as the kind of semi-creative thinker I am, I made my own character for the latter world, prompted by a book I had gotten for a DBZ tabletop RPG (it used pools of six-sided dice to determine damage; the book also had a lot of interesting bits of trivia about the characters in the Saiyan Saga).
When first I created this character, he was named “Yurei Jigoku,” or “Phantom Inferno” thanks to an English/Japanese dictionary I have, and he was also an experimental creation of a Saiyan/Namekian hybrid by way of an alien xenobiologist (who was killed by Frieza) then raised on Earth by Korin.
I recently did a heavy overhaul of this character, both design-wise and backstory-wise, and am going to share this new version in some detail.
Dr. Maeri was the last of her race, the Capcins (a play on capsaicin; they’re a fire-based species and named based on herbs and spices), thanks to the Cold/Frieza Forces. Determined to get some sort of revenge through science, she got some DNA from a wandering Namekian (Lord Slug) and a Saiyan warrior (Paragus), and mixed it with some of her own DNA. This failed a few times (Gero was an amazing scientist to be able to mix four disparate species’ DNA together, even if humans and Saiyans could apparently interbreed, to make Cell on his first try), but just as her masterpiece was taking form, the Frieza Forces found her.
To save her child/experiment, she recorded a quick message and ejected its incubation chamber in a random direction before being killed. Some time later, and about a year before Goku/Kakarot’s spaceship landed at Mt. Paozu, the incubation chamber crashed into the top of Korin’s Tower.
The feline martial arts master was surprised to find a strange red-haired baby with a tail on his roof in the broken remains of a strange piece of high technology. After reviewing the message and consulting with Kami, Korin took the child in and named them “Rosaceae Maeri” (Korin’s original name comes from K’arin, the Japanese name of the Chinese quince, which is of the family Rosaceae), or “Rose” for short (this combines with the child’s mother/creator’s name of “Maeri” to sound like “Rosemary”). And yes, “them,” because Rose’s Namekian DNA made them sexually neuter.
Because of the Capcin DNA, all of Rose’s ki attacks are fiery in nature and they can withstand extremely high temperatures. The Namekian DNA allows for regeneration, though not to Cell’s extent, as well as the ability to photosynthesize, and the Saiyan DNA gives a zenkai boost and access to Legendary Super Saiyan (because Paragus is Broly’s father, so the potential is there). Also, the Namekian and Saiyan DNA interfere with each other so that instead of an Oozaru, Rose just becomes a giant berserker when looking at the full moon.
And that’s basically all I have for this character, but I think it’s a fairly unique origin for a DBZ OC.
