Absolutely thrilled to be showing you all the last banner I made for the @house-of-dadneto event with my favourite New Mutants and Headmaster Mags! I absolutely adored the dynamic all the kids had with Erik while he was their teacher back in the 80's comics, and my love for it was only renewed with the latest Magneto comic that came out in 2023! If you haven't seen these comics before, I highly recommend them, as it really shows the best of what Erik can be as a mentor/father figure! 💕

Hello and welcome to the House of Dadneto 2024!

I am extremely excited to announce the very first House of Dadneto event, a month-long fan creation challenge with a focus on Magneto and his (many) children! The event runs throughout the entirely of June 2024, and includes 15 main prompts, 15 alternate prompts, and an extra 10 prompts designed for editors! You can check out the whole list of prompts here!

All fanwork mediums are welcome (fics, art, animations, edits etc.) and you can complete as many or as few prompts as you would like, though there are prizes for those who complete either 15 or 30 prompts by the end of the month! Check out the rules here for information on how to participate, how to qualify for prizes, and any other questions you might have!

Can't wait to see what all you awesome creators make for our favourite Dysfunctional Dad this June! Until then, stay posted for more updates and details from this blog, and if you have any questions feel free to send in an ask!

House of Dadneto Checkpoint!!

Here are a couple of snippets from my upcoming fic Five Times Erik Thinks Peter Is Childish, and One Time Erik Realizes Peter Is His Child for the prompt “Acceptance”:

Peter looked at Erik. “Can I leave out of your door?”

Erik raised an eyebrow, casting an irritable glance at Peter’s fingers, which had gone back to frantically tapping against the young man’s leg. “We’re going seventy miles per hour,” Erik said sardonically, though he wasn’t sure why he was even entertaining this conversation.

Erik bent over Peter’s leg. Writing on the cast was difficult, as the surface was rough and uneven, so he took care in ensuring that each letter was penned carefully. Erik.

When Erik was finished, he handed the Sharpie to Peter and drew back, feeling slightly embarrassed for participating in a ritual best left to middle schoolers.

But Peter’s expression of wary awe made it immediately worth it.

I’ve written so many fics where the focus is on Erik’s misunderstandings about Peter, so it’s been awesome to instead explore what Erik’s perception of Peter is, completely devoid of any false assumptions.

(Of course, if I can find the time, I’m 100% also going to write one of my usual cursed Dadneto misunderstandings for the “Outsider POV” prompt)

This snippet is for the Outsider POV prompt, based on the Midnight Suns game. why both my snippets are from videos games, don't ask, I will have a mental breakdown. This game is so underappreciated 😭 I was sniffing my screen at the like,, 3 Pietro mentions in this game btw. WANDA. TALK ABOUT YOUR BROTHER MORE. anyway, the pov is the Hunter. In this part, Hunter talking to Magik about Magneto.

here's my ao3 where I've been posting x-men 97 fics here's the snippet:

"Can we talk for a second?" Hunter asked softly, pulling Illyana closer to the edge of the cliff. The Hunter knew that she was a more reserved person, but they wanted to make sure her voice was heard. She was a valuable team member, and her perspective would be important to everyone.

"Are you still going on about Magneto?" Illyana criticised immediately, smirking at Hunter's troubled face. "I am only joking, Hunter. What is it?"

Hunter smiled at her, grateful that Illyana took it in stride. "I know Ororo and Logan were debating Magneto. I was hoping to get your perspective as well." They paused, trying to figure out the most sensitive way to ask. "Your thoughts and feelings on the situation are just as important."

Illyana laughed bitterly, picking at her nails. "Magneto is an idiot. He is reckless and foolish and stupid and horrible and..." She trails off, looking away from Hunter. It was painfully obvious that the girl was deflecting, as if trying to convince herself.

Hunter remained silent, waiting for Illyana to finish. They knew she was hiding something. It was obvious that Magneto was a sore spot for her. Perhaps she had had a personal conflict with the man herself, or maybe there was some underlying resentment that she held that prevented her from sympathising. Whatever the reason, Hunter hoped that they could learn something about the young girl—just enough to help her in her time of need.

Hunter's silence, astonishingly, seemed to make her open up. "He was my teacher, a long time ago now," she confessed. "He was there for us when no one else could be... He wasn't the best... and he was trying to atone for his past when..." She shook her head, not elaborating. "We - my class, my friends - we thought he left us, but then he was just - then he..." She couldn't find the words. A common thing when talking about Magneto. "I know now, he cared. Maybe so many things that happened after wouldn't have, if we let him help." Illyana rolled her shoulders, putting up her walls again. "He is a good man, Hunter." That was all Hunter needed - the conviction in the statement, the confidence.

WIP Checkpoint #1!

Hey everyone! Here's a preview from my new animatic that I'll be posting in June for the @house-of-dadneto event!

This animatic focuses on the idea that Magneto and Quicksilver are always destined to meet, and specifically follows what I think could have happened in the dark timeline we saw in Days of Future Past! I had heaps of fun making this one, and I can't wait to show it to you all in a few months!!

House of Dadneto Event Info!

Hello everyone! This post will cover almost all information regarding this event, from rules to dates to prizes! If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to send an ask!

Rules

The House of Dadneto event consists of 30 separate prompts, which can be combined or excluded to your choosing, and can be in any media form (writing, art, edits etc.). The rules are as seen below:

No inc*st is allowed for this event.

Works must focus on Magneto and at least one of his children, though his 'children' can also extend to those that aren't blood related, such as the New Mutants or the Maximoff Twins.

Please @ this blog and tag your works with #houseofdadneto2024 so that we can reblog your magnificent works here on the blog!

Prizes

You can write as many or as few prompts as you would like, but for those who complete 15 or all 30 prompts, you will be gifted a prize for all your hard work!

FAQs

What is the House of Dadneto 2024?

The House of Dadneto is a month-long challenge including 30 separate prompts (15 main prompts/15 alternate prompts) with a focus on Magneto and his children, biological or otherwise. This can be done through any medium (writing, art, edits etc.).

When is House of Dadneto 2024?

The event starts at the beginning of June and concludes at the end of the month, though you are welcome to continue using the prompts past this date! Prompts fulfilled outside of June however are not eligible towards prizes.

Do we have to do all 30 prompts?

No, each prompt is completely optional! Feel free to mix up the order of the prompts as well or exclude prompts you don’t wish to complete. To avoid the risk of burnout, the event has been made to have 15 main prompts with 15 alternates, so that you can complete the full month if you so wish but are not obligated to either.

Can prompts be combined?

Yes! Feel free to combine as many or as few prompts as you like!

Does it only have to be Magneto and [insert child/children here]?

Nope, you can include as many characters as you like, so long as Magneto and at least one of his children are the main dynamic! Go wild and have fun!

Do you have to include the exact prompt/quote for it to qualify?

Nope! The prompts are purely there to inspire you, so don’t stress about using each prompt literally or having to use the quotes word for word!

Is there a word count for each prompt?

No, create till your heart’s content! You can make as little or as much as you want.

WIP Checkpoint #2!

Hello everyone! Here's a preview of my upcoming fic titled 'Rest now, my child (the day is over)' for the @house-of-dadneto event!

“Peter?” Erik called out, finally finding his voice beneath the panic.

A sharp inhale. The muffle of water as something blocked the stream. But still, no answer.

“Peter, I want to help you,” Erik added with growing worry. “Can you open the door?”

“No I- I don’t need help. I’m fine, just leave me alone…” Peter finally answered, though his voice sounded strained and uneven. Far from the confident wit and banter everyone was familiar with.

Sparking with a hint of frustration, Erik said sternly, “Peter, I can see the blood all over your clothing. You are clearly hurt- so don’t even attempt to lie to me.”

“I said I’m fine!” Peter snapped back.

Erik had to admit he was a little surprised by the ferocity in his son’s voice, but it only made his concern harden into determination as he said coldly, “Peter, open this door right now.”

“Just go away!”

“If you don’t unlock it Peter, I will!”

“No!” Peter’s desperate cry only sent Erik’s fears spiralling further. “You can’t- I haven’t… haven’t… just don’t- please…”

Normally if Peter wanted space, Erik wouldn’t hesitate to respect it. He was a grown man after all. He didn’t need Erik as a father in the same way Nina had.

But standing amidst a minefield of bloodied clothes and held away from his wounded child by a mere wooden door, instinct overthrew every other thought as Erik twisted his hand and unlocked the door with his powers, nearly crushing the mechanism in the process. Apologies could be made later. But for now, Erik would rather face Peter’s wrath than face his grave.

As the door flew open with a forceful magnetic shove, Erik felt his heart stutter at the sight of his son staring back at him with stunned, tearful eyes, stripped down to his boxers and absolutely covered in blood. It was everywhere. On Peter’s hands, painted across his face, stained into his chest, setting into his hair- it was impossible to tell where it began or ended.

“Oh God- Peter…” Erik breathed in horror.

Tears spilled over his son’s cheeks, cutting through the bloodstains on his skin like rivers, before he answered in a shattered whisper, “Dad…”

Since I already previewed my 5+1 Things fic here, I figured I'd use this checkpoint as a chance to reveal some excerpts from my other (as of now untitled) fic for the “Outsider POV” prompt.

[For context: Erik stumbles upon Peter and Kurt kissing, and promptly arrives at the conclusion that the secret Peter has been keeping from him is that Peter's gay. And, like, Peter is gay, but Erik couldn't be more wrong.]

Erik knew that Peter was getting close enough that he’d soon be in earshot, so he completely disregarded Raven’s words, staring at her with laser focus. “All love is love,” Erik said abruptly, forcing himself not to cast a glance towards Peter.

“What?” Raven spluttered, but her confusion was unimportant.

“All love is valid,” Erik continued loudly, and in his periphery, he could see that Peter was staring at him as the young man walked by. “We are all a family. I fully support the love you just mentioned, Mystique, because loving anyone is okay.”

...

“Is that seriously a rainbow pin on his flannel?” Jean said in a low voice, exchanging a shocked glance with Scott. “And a rainbow scarf?”

“He is expressing himself,” Ororo said with a shrug, taking a bite of her toast. “I see nothing wrong with that.”

“We’ve seen him in a full cape, chestplate, helmet, and boots,” Peter began, watching Erik as the man took a seat at the table. He turned back to his friends, shaking his head. “But somehow this is the most deranged fashion statement I’ve seen from him yet.”
