(Gregg Sulkin. He/him. Cis-male) Did I just see Hunter Lowell? This twenty-six year old actor has been living in Chicago for his entire life. Some say that they are kind and creative as well as reckless and resentful. If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be No Halo by BROCKHAMPTON. All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they bring to the Windy City.
hunter’s family had been living just above the poverty line for years until he was picked up by a talent scout at age 6
his parents were quick to take advantage of his talent, and by age 10 he had become their home’s sole breadwinner
a couple of years later, his mother (unable to deal with his father’s emotional abuse) walked away and left hunter behind, under the care of unloving father
he never dealt well with the utter loneliness that came with traveling around for shooting and as much as he adores what he does, he would have loved to have been able to attend high school like a regular human being
in the show business, friendships are hardly honest, so hunter never felt like he had many true friends
over time, hunter started to develop anxiety — unable to deal with the pressure of his career, his relationship with his father and the hollowness he felt whenever he was alone
his anxiety evolved into mild depression and has become a daily struggle he lives with — this has led him into a legal battle with his father, who is attempting to set up a conservatorship and take control of his money
career-wise hunter is quite consolidated in the industry as a well known actor with a lot of potential and some memorable roles to his name. still, people diverge on whether or not he is a ~serious~ enough actor, to be case in oscars-level roles, which makes him somewhat frustrated and a bit conflicted, so that’s sort of a big issue for him
in terms of how famous he is, your mun would probably know him as he was the lead in quite a few major hollywood movies
he decided to return to chicago as it allows him a bit more privacy and some much needed distance from all the glitz and glamour of hollywood, while still being able to live in a big, booming city

( LILY COLLINS. SHE/HER. CIS FEMALE ) Did I just see (MOLLY MASON-HIATT )? This ( THIRTY-TWO ) year old ( SCHOOL LIBRARIAN ) has been living in Chicago for ( ON AND OFF HER WHOLE LIFE ). Some say that they are ( ADAPTABLE & NURTURING ) as well as ( STUBBORN & IMPULSIVE ). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( IT’S TIME TO GO - TAYLOR SWIFT ).
Molly has lived in Chicago for most of her life, with the exception of a few years she lived in NYC with her now (still not legally defined) ex-husband. One of her favorite things about Chicago is her little brother, Owen Mason.
Growing up, Molly always had a love of the stage and books. She used to tell people when she was little that she was going to be a storyteller when she grew up, or an actress, depending on the day. In school she was in almost every play, though she can’t carry a tune to save her life so musicals have never quite been her thing. She ultimately ended up going to college for education, sticking to theatre on the side, and landed a job as a teacher for a few years and then when she came back to Chicago from NYC about three years ago she began working as an elementary school librarian.
When Molly was nearing the end of her college career she met James and sparks flew instantly. James was a writer, working on having his first novel published and planning more. Molly had always dreamed of falling in love with a writer or an artist, though truly she had just always dreamed of falling in love. Marriage was on her radar and with James it happened naturally, and quickly. Though Molly’s family couldn’t help but protest, she married him at the ripe age of twenty-six and for the first little bit was living her best married life dream.
Four years into their marriage, after they moved back to Chicago from a two year stay in NYC so James could gain more experience and inspiration for his work, James set out on a little author tour to promote his book. While on the road he met a new muse as Molly discovered upon his return home. James convinced her that it was nothing and Molly believed him, wanting to salvage her marriage. James went back out to finish the last few weeks of his tour and Molly found his promises to fix things to be untrue. James returned home for three days and packed his things, leaving Molly with just a note that perhaps it was time for their story to end. In the most cliche way possible.
Molly was devastated and for the last two years has been grieving the “end” of one of her dreams. Of course she could get married again and she’ll realize that eventually, but for now she’s still stuck in her heartbreak. In addition to that she’s been struggling with finalizing her divorce due to finances and James’ strange unwillingness to collaborate to make things happen.
more info coming!
wanted connections:
best friends, and friends, both from her childhood in Chicago and newer ones.
romantic flings from college
still musing on asking for James (story & name can be edited!) as a real person
anyone else?! i’m down for plotting!

( KATHERINE MCNAMARA. SHE/HER. CIS FEMALE ) Did I just see (BETHANY BROOKS )? This ( TWENTY FIVE ) year old ( DANCER ) has been living in Chicago for ( 6 YEARS ). Some say that they are ( AMBITIOUS & DARING ) as well as ( STUBBORN & DISTANT ). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( THE KIDS AREN'T ALRIGHT - FALL OUT BOY ). All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they bring to the Windy City.
general
name: bethany brooks
age: 25
gender: female
sexuality: bisexual
relationship status: single
occupation: ballet dancer
hometown: woostock, il
ethnicity: caucasian
bio
born in a small city of woodstock in illinois, beth was always curious about big city life. unfortunately, most of her life she could only imagine it thanks to regular tv evenings at her family's humble house. that's also when she accidentally came upon some old documentary on ballet.
her parents own a local restaurant in woodstock. with it being so popular among the citizens, beth got used to spending a lot of time alone when she was a child.
during her secondary school, she quickly became one of the popular kids, because of her skills of charming people in an instant. however, while she enjoyed all the attention she was getting, she often felt too much pressure from her parents, classmates and teachers.
at that time, she started attending dance classes, which were paid by her parents. although it was not a simple task to combine both school and exhausting dance classes, beth basically became obsessed with ballet, and it became her dream to dance professionally.
stressful school life also became the reason she started getting more ambitious. and while she had many dreams and goals of becoming a dancer, she often wondered if it was actually what she wanted to do.
after graduating, she attended art school and majored in dancing in chicago. moving to a big city after all this time was an exciting event for beth. she believed chicago will help her make her dreams a reality.
during her study, she took part in several performances, set by the school, but she never got to dance as a prima ballerina, which caused her a lot of distress and a lot of problems with self-confidence, though she never showed it in public.
all this time, she was never interested in proper relationships, though she had a crush on a couple of her classmates back at high school.
currently, beth is attending a dance academy to improve her skills, and also works in a small (for now) theater in chicago as a ballet dancer.

( JAMIE DORNAN. HE/HIM. MALE ) Did I just see (HOLDEN ALEXANDER)? This ( THIRTY-FOUR ) year old ( PARAMEDIC ) has been living in Chicago for ( THIRTY-FOUR YEARS ). Some say that they are ( LOYAL AND HARD-WORKING ) as well as ( STUBBORN AND IMPULSIVE). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( CHASING CARS by SNOW PATROL ). All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they bring to the Windy City. - (c/26/cst/she/her/car accident, death)
Tumblr media
TW: car accident, brain injury, ptsd, bipolar mention, death
Holden grew up an only child with his two parents, Olivia and James. He was very close to his aunt and uncle on his mother’s side, and his grandmother on his father’s side, who had never had any other kids, and Holden’s paternal grandfather had passed away before he was born.
Holden’s parents were completely in love and the house was always filled with music from his parents’ vinyls, good smelling food, along with art, laughter, and playful banter. Holden’s childhood was pretty ideal. Sometimes his mother would be awake at two in the morning and offer to make him pancakes while she sang along to a radio station at the stove.
There were times, however, where she would lay in bed and not come out all day. These were rare days, but they happened. He didn’t think much of it, but as he got older he would come sit with her and she would put her best smile on and listen to her son talk.
His aunt eventually revealed, with her sister’s approval, that Olivia dealt with Bipolar Disorder. Holden accepted it without much dialogue with his mother. She was happy, for the most part, and so was her son, the most important thing to her.
He had good friends, made A’s and B’s in school, and didn’t get into trouble. His childhood was happy and he remembers it as such, knows how lucky he was.
As a teenager, Holden grew an impulsive streak. He started dating girls and his mother sat him down for the ‘safe sex’ and ‘respect women’ talk, which he took very seriously. Sometimes he would stay out later than he was supposed to, and he regrets the worry that he probably caused his parents in his teen years. He regrets breaking some of the rules they had set for him, like coming home before 10:00. It was a perfectly acceptable time to come home for the night, and sometimes he would break that rule.
But as he settled into an older teenager, he began to settle into the rules as well and finally thought his parents were ‘cool’ again. He’d even go to the movie theatre with them, finding no shame in being pals with his parents. They’d raised him to be friends with him first, and parents second. For Holden, it had ended up working smoothly.
At 18, he moved out of his parents’ house and into an apartment, working first as a waiter until he became a bartender at 21. He stayed at that job until he was twenty-five, when tragedy struck Holden’s world upside down.
The twenty-five year old was riding in his parents’ car when a semi-truck veered off the road and into their car, causing a brutal accident. Truthfully, the driver had been tipsy. His parents passed away on the scene, and Holden remained conscious in the backseat of the car to witness it until he passed out from a mild brain bleed. They were rushed to the hospital and the paramedics were unable to revive his parents. Holden was in the hospital for three weeks, his injuries persisting for longer than they would have due to his trauma. He didn’t say a word during his hospital stay, though his aunt and uncle were there for him every day, talking to him, encouraging him to eat. He barely remembered the three weeks he was in treatment. The doctors said the brain injury would cause no long-term damage, and he was ‘good to go.’ He forgot the advice they gave him, pushing it out of his brain, about going to counseling or group therapy to deal with his grief.
Holden slept fitfully the years after his parents’ death, waking up from his nightmares screaming or in a cold sweat. Sometimes he’d battle sleep paralysis, and it horrified him. So he took to drinking a couple shots of whiskey in the night time to sleep dreamlessly. It was the only thing that seemed to work, he reasoned, not that he had tried much else. He’d tried meditating, granted, and he’d tried staying away from screens close to bedtime, but he knew he needed something stronger.
At twenty-seven years old, he met a woman in the bar and went home with her that night. On top of having found a woman that he loved, he’d recently taken classes at college to become a paramedic, feeling that it somehow made up for him not being able to save his parents.
Meanwhile, the two fell in love quickly. Holden, usually a ladies’ man, not much of a relationship guy, fell hard and passionately for Isabella.
Within six months, she lived with him, getting used to his ever-changing and sudden schedule as a paramedic, the times he was on call, the sleepless nights.
As they settled into the honeymoon phase and settled out of it, they fought like cats and dogs. The smallest of things could set them off, but then they would lean into a heated kiss and all would be forgotten.
The second half of their relationship was more turbulent. She grew tired of him shutting down, though she knew everything about him, and grew tired of him walking out of the house after a nightmare in the middle of the night, not wanting to talk about it. He never wanted to talk about it, she’d say. It seemed to still matter to him, enough that he had to drink to get some sound sleep, she pressed. He shook his head and continued walking out the door. Sometimes he would get a message on his phone and go to work without telling her. She hated that the most, and deep down, he knew it wasn’t right of him.
Meanwhile, Holden loved his job. It could be anxiety-inducing and traumatic at times, but he found that despite his initial reason for wanting to try the job, it was a career to him now and he loved helping people, and often didn’t even think about his parents on the job. But there was the occasional day where all he could think of was his parents.
When Isabella found out she was pregnant, it was like a light in the darkness to Isabella and Holden. He smiled, hugged and kissed Isabella when she took the test, and spun her around happily while she kissed him a hundred times. He was there for her every step of the way, for all the doctors’ appointments, for all the long, sleepless nights; he was there to hold her hair back when she got sick, there to calm her when she was scared or worried.
Eventually, Isabella wondered if the only reason they were so happy now was because she was pregnant. And ultimately, they decided to end their relationship before their daughter, Julia, they’d decided, after one night of looking through a baby book, was born. It seemed to be the best, and they decided to split custody in half, trading off every week. Isabella moved out a month after Julia was born. Co-parenting worked well for them, and they were good as friends, though deep down they were still in love and craved each other like nothing else.
Julia was Holden’s light, his pride and joy.
He adopted two Siberian Huskies, brother and sister, named Aurora and Bear when Julia turned one year old. They soon came to protect her and adored Julia, and Julia adored them. Julia is now three years old, and Holden doesn’t know what he would have done without the help he’s had from his aunt and uncle. They are like second parents to him, dropping everything and coming over at the drop of a hat when he’s on call at work, babysitting Julia and even dogsitting.
Luckily, Holden had trained the two dogs when they were puppies, and they are well-behaved though Aurora has a stubborn streak. On Holden’s off week, he misses his daughter a lot, and the two parents make sure to include time where they are both with their daughter, having family meals at each other’s houses and outings together. On his off week, he can be found at the bar sometimes when he’s not working.
One thing that has come back, after the car accident, is the impulsivity that he had as a young teenager. He sleeps around a lot, using it almost like a coping mechanism, but not quite. He’s gone back to his years of being a ladies’ man while also being a responsible, loving father. Life is ideal right now, for the most part, but his trauma still weighs on him every day, especially at night.

( KENNEDY MCMANN. SHE/HER. CISWOMAN ) Did I just see (MONTANA JEROME )? This ( TWENTY SEVEN ) year old ( BOOK STORE CLERK) has been living in Chicago for ( FOUR MONTHS ). Some say that they are ( INQUISITIVE AND OUTGOING ) as well as ( FINICKY AND STUBBORN ). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( STRANGERS LIKE ME - PHIL COLLINS ). All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they bring to the Windy City. - (jay, 26, cst, they/them, fire/burns/suicide/gore/sexual violence)
Tumblr media
hey y’all! i’m jay, and this is montana! i’m still working on most of her background, but here’s what i have so far!
montana grew up in georgia; her parents shared a farm with her uncle an his family. for the most part, she enjoye rural life. it gave her plenty of room to do her own thing. at the same time, small towns are small towns... and pretty much everybody knew everyone else’s business.
school was something that she was ‘decent’ at, but not something that she really put a ton of time and energy into. part of this was because she didn’t entirely see the point. but mostly this was because she knew her family needed her help with a lot of things, and she’d rather help her family than do math homework an pretend it would get her anywhere.
if you asked her, montana would say that she doesn’t really care for children. the only kids she’s really ever had a soft spot for are her nephews and niece, who still live back in georgia.
she dated her high school sweetheart for almost four years, starting in their sophomore year. he was someone who brought her out of her shell and encouraged her to do things that she otherwise wouldn’t push herself to do. in fact, he was the person who encouraged her most to go to school to become a vet tech -- something she’s really proud of, even if she’s not currently using her degree.
around her senior year of high school, her mother got sick out of nowhere and passed away within eight months. it was devastating, and another reason why montana delayed leaving home. when she did leave for school, eventually, she changed her last name to her mother’s maiden name in her honor.
after school, montana came back home for a few months and wanted to see if she could pick up where things left off. but being away for four years meant that lots did change. she tried living there for another year an a half before she couldn’t take it anymore and picked up and moved to north carolina. she worked as a vet tech outside of charlotte for another few years. but when things started getting dull and felt hopeless again, she decided she needed a big change.
she moved to chicago on a whim, with no plans or promises made. she didn’t tell her family where she was moving, and doesn’t really plan to. she doesn’t want them to know that she basically threw everything away just to feel something exciting again. she’s currently working as a book store clerk.

( STEFANIE SCOTT. SHE/HER. FEMALE ) Did I just see ( ARIA BECKETT )? This ( 22 ) year old ( BALLET DANCER ) has been living in Chicago for ( A FEW MONTHS ). Some say that they are ( THOUGHTFUL AND HARDWORKING ) as well as ( MELODRAMATIC AND IMPULSIVE  ). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( CINDERELLA by MAC MILLER ). All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they bring to the Windy City.
(tw: addiction)
People around Aria say that she was born in pointe shoes. From the age of 3 she started dancing in the most elite ballet school in Pennsylvania to achieve her mother’s broken dreams of becoming a prima ballerina. Aria’s talent was inevitable. She worked hard, took her diet seriously and did everything to make her mother proud. And it’s not like she didn’t enjoy dancing – she truly did, but the pressure of being perfect really took a toll on her. Due to the unbearable pain of training and traumas Aria turned to painkillers and quickly became addicted. The day she turned 18 she decided to apply to the most prestigious ballet company in the world – The Paris Opera Ballet, yet to everyone’s surprise she didn’t get in. This denial really beat her down, especially seeing the disappointment in her mother’s eyes. After years of more training and auditions she finally got accepted into The Joffrey Ballet Company located right here in Chicago. After signing the contract, she moved right away, with hopes of actually making it big in the ballet world.

( NATALIA DYER. SHE/HER. CIS WOMAN ) Did I just see (CLAIRE CONWAY )? This ( TWENTY FIVE ) year old ( WRITER) has been living in Chicago for ( TWO WEEKS ). Some say that they are ( OUTGOING and OPENMINDED ) as well as ( FLIGHTY and IMPULSIVE ). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( STAY byTHE KID LAROI ). hey y’all! here’s claire, my new baby! i hope you love her as much as i do! tw for pregnancy, abortion mention
chicago born and raised, claire always felt like the city was her home. it was big enough to always feel like an adventure, and as someone who thrives off of change and newness, that was perfect for her.
her family is upper-middle class, and could afford pretty much anything that they needed, and most of the things that they wanted. claire grew up without an idea of really ‘going without,’ and to this day, that’s a strange idea to her. as such, she’s not really used to the word ‘no,’ and still is learning how to deal with not getting her way.
as a kid and into her teen years, she played tennis and was part of a dance team. staying physically fit is important to her, though it isn’t her top priority these days.
she was the girl in college who wanted to have fun. she did well enough in school, and she didn’t want to spend the best years of her life in a library. she joined a sorority, where she made many of her closest friends, and enjoyed going out and letting loose. as long as she maintained a decent gpa, she could keep her parents happy, and that was what mattered to her.
shortly after graduating, she met thomas, and she fell for him pretty quickly. this wasn’t out of the norm for claire. she falls for people easily, and her emotional attachments burn brightly. they dated for a bit, and she was over the moon in her relationship with him. he was kind, he was sweet, and she really didn’t think she could ask for more in a relationship.
but then she got pregnant. almost immediately, she regretted it. but she couldn’t bring herself to terminate the pregnancy, and she knew that thomas would be a good dad. the pregnancy was hard on claire, who felt like she was changing so much of her life and changing everything to become a mother. it was simultaneously something she wanted to be good at and something that she absolutely knew she couldn’t possibly be ready for.
over the course of a week or so, she started packing up her things and bringing them home to her parents’ house in the suburbs. then, one night, she took the last of her things, left a note for thomas, and never looked back. she moved to new york, where she lived for two years, and started writing at a newspaper.
she missed chicago, though. chicago was home, and it always would be. so about a month ago, she applied for a job at the chicago tribune. once she got an offer, she jumped at the opportunity, and she’s been back in chicago for about two weeks. she’s not sure what she’s going to say if she runs into thomas... she’s not sure what she can say. she’d be lying to herself if she claimed that potentially being a part of his (and sophia’s) life again wasn’t a part of why she wanted to return...

Sexuality: Bisexual
Martial Status: Single but in love with her best friend
Positive Traits: Determined, Honorable, Intelligent, Intuitive, Compassionate
Negative Traits: Reckless, Ruthless, Manipulative, Calculating, Stubborn, Self-Sacrificing

BIO POINTS
If Nikita found out that her blood runs blue, she wouldn’t be too surprised. Carrying the shield and protecting their country had been a tradition in her family for years, and she couldn’t remember a time when someone didn’t follow in that path. Whether it was a career in the military, backing the blue, or taking on a courtroom, anything that related to protecting people or putting bad guys behind bars.
Kita grew up in New Orleans, her dad was a cop, her mom ran the family’s bar on Bourbon Street, and she and her siblings had one fun childhood. Music was a big thing in their lives, and if they didn’t follow in their daddy footsteps, it was inevitable that music would be their back up. They all played instruments, Kita specifically the guitar and trumpet, and even as kids participated in the funeral parties and really any party that was going on around the city.
When she was 8 years old, her grandmother (on her mom’s side) wanted to retire and thus gave Kita’s mom ownership of her own bar and restaurant...in Chicago. Deciding it would be fun for a change, the Devereaux’s packed up their life and moved to the windy city. It was a change, but one Kita actually enjoyed. Sure, she missed her hometown, but she’s always been down for a new adventure. Her dad transferred to the Chicago PD, her mom took over the restaurant and bar (affectionately named ‘Bourbon Street’), and Kita and her siblings quickly plugged in and adjusted to their new life.
(Tw: kidnapping, drugs) Growing up, Kita vaguely knew she wanted to follow the homeland security career path to an extent, but she really had no idea what exactly she wanted to pursue. That is, until life seemingly decided for her. A high powered criminal her dad had been investigating as a detective decided to take out his anger about a recent drug bust...on Kita. Some of his goons kidnapped, and while they hadn’t assaulted her, they left enough damage both physically and mentally to leave a mark by the time she was rescued. She was 14.
From that point on, Kita knew what she wanted to do. That criminal had gotten off because of a good lawyer...and she knew she never wanted anyone to go through what she had, if she could prevent it.
After her high school graduation, and mutual break up with the love of her life high school boyfriend, @austinjamcs , she went to college, and after graduation went on to study at Harvard to pursue her law degree. But as soon as that graduation rolled around, and she passed the LSAT, she took her degree back to Chicago and started a clerkship in the District Attorney’s office. If there was one place she wanted to be, it was sitting at her own desk with the title Assistant District Attorney.
And a year ago, she finally achieved that, currently making sure that the bad guys her friends in blue take off the streets, stay off the streets. Kind of like The Dark Knight version of Harvey Dent before he became Two Face...here’s a prime example of what she’s like, she’s highkey Harvey. She genuinely loves her job, she loves helping the blue line heroes keep the city safe. She wouldn’t trade her career for the world.
HEADCANONS
Fictional Character Inspo: Harvey Dent (The Dark Knight), Maverick (Top Gun), Anne of Austria (BBC Musketeers), Obi-Wan Kenobi (SW: Episodes 2&3), Jack McCoy (Law & Order), Xander Cage (XXX)....(can I just say Charlize Theron Vibes asf)
She owns a ‘70 Chevelle SS...and possibly a Kawasaki motorcycle in storage
Is fluent in ASL and French
Has her pilot’s license and loves to fly when she can
Has a 6 year old doggo she adopted from a shelter when she moved back to Chicago, named him Viggo (after Viggo Mortensen...shut up she’s a nerd)
Aesthetics: vanilla scented candles, partially buttoned blouses, multiple coffee cups on a mahogany desk, wall to wall bookcases, wavy hair, leather jackets over silk camis, slimming tailored suits, heels that could kill, musky perfume, bourbon, 80’s music, action movies, lemonade at the beach, flirty smirks, old leather bound books, impromptu late night adventures, cool breezy fall days with storm clouds overhead, oversized sweatshirts
CONNECTIONS

best friend -- someone she’s known for at least five or so years and they’ve gotten really close
roommates from college -- 2 or 3 people she roomed with over the years
neighbors -- she’s in an apartment, so anyone who might live on her floor, in the building, etc.
literally any and all friends -- i’m not good with coming up with connections, she’ll just take friends where she can get them
ex(es) -- she’s probably dated two people since breaking off her engagement. she’s definitely a “relationships” girl so they would have lasted for a year+ each

“Don’t let the past steal your present.”
Growing up, Alexander’s mother was a professor and his father was a high school teacher. A child with that much access to educational resources was bound to prosper - and prosper he did. From a young age it was clear that Alexander was gifted and not only academically.
His love for sports also grew with time and like most things he put his mind to, Alexander worked hard to be great at it. While he loved any excuse to get out and run around, he went on to love baseball the most. In high school he went on to play football in the fall and baseball in the spring and when adding his academics into the mix, he was pretty booked all throughout HS. He preferred it though.
Towards the end of his HS years, Alex earned himself a full scholarship for his athleticism. His goal was to continue to play baseball into college and even after. Like a lot of little boys, the dream of going pro was always in the back of their minds.
A severe car accident cut his sporting career short - a drunk driver hit his car head on, leaving Alexander with a lieu of injuries ranging from anything from scrapes to broken bones and fractures. He had corrective surgery to fix a broken leg, but even after the long months of healing and PT, it was clear that he wouldn’t ever play the same.
The college of choice pulled his full ride for athletics and in return gave him a full ride for his academics. Alexander used this to really focus on his studies and went on to become a professor like his mother.
When Alexander was twenty three, his girlfriend at the time gave birth to a baby girl. Becoming a parent wasn’t something he had given much thought too, but when she was born, his whole world melted. Him and his girlfriend stayed together through the years and when Alex was twenty eight, she gave birth to their second child, a son.
At the time, marriage was never something they had ever really discussed. They both were content with where they were at and they didn’t need a fancy wedding or some elopement to be happy. They went on this way for an upwards of sixteen years.
Recently, however, Alexander came to find out that his girlfriend cheated on him and had been for the past several months. She claimed, amongst other things, that because he never proposed to her that he didn’t love her anymore. It was as far from the truth as one could get and has made him rethink everything. He thought they were fine and she never said anything differently, but maybe there was something he was missing.

( MADISON BAILEY. SHE/HER. CISFEMALE ) Did I just see ( RILEY MILLER )? This ( TWENTY FIVE ) year old ( MECHANIC ) has been living in Chicago for ( TEN YEARS ). Some say that they are ( FREETHINKING AND RELIABLE ) as well as ( HOT-HEADED AND OBSESSIVE ). If they had a theme song, some might say that it would be ( HARBOR BY CLAIRO ). All I know is that I can’t wait to see what they bring to the Windy City.
TRIGGER WARNINGS: DRUGS, DEATH, PLANE CRASH
kai grew up in a tiny town in pennsylvania for most of her life.
at age 15, her parents were killed in a plane crash on their way home from california, and kai was sent to Chicago to live with her aunt--the only living family member she had.
the death of her parents was hard on her, and she never really recovered from it.
living in chicago was hard on kai. she rebelled against her aunt-doing everything she could to go against her. she snuck out, drank too much, and smoked too much. she was so distraught that it was the only form of coping she could think of
at 18, she finally gave in a decided to go to therapy. she stopped the self-destructive behaviors and decided she needed to find another outlet. something healthier that wouldn’t ruin her life.
kai used to watch her dad fix cars growing up. she’d sit on a stool on the corner of the room. once she was old enough, she would step in to help him. she had a natural talent for the skills of a mechanic
currently, kai owns her own mechanic shop in town that she prides herself in as being a safe place for women to come to when male mechanics are intimidating (or just assholes)
She’s a hothead and often lets her temper get the best of her, but she’s a reliable friend. She’d do anything for the people she loves.

PAST:
( tw: death; car accident; child neglect; bullying; mental illness )
1993, Daegu, South Korea. Ahn Ji-hyun was born to a newly-married couple, who cared for her well and loved her dearly. Her early childhood was great, and she had plenty of friends. She showed a love for animals and nature early on, and developed a habit of picking up and bringing home any injured animals she found, wanting to help them. She also loved literature and art, spending hours covered in paint or listening to her mother tell her stories.
But, tragedy struck when Ji-hyun was 5 years old, and the family were involved in a car accident when returning to their home after a meal out. All the members of the family were rushed into hospital. Unfortunately both of Ji-hyun's parents eventually succumbed to their injuries, but, Ji-hyun managed to pull through. She spent a few weeks in the hospital recovering from her minor injuries. Somehow she had managed to walk away with only cuts and bruises, a concussion and a few broken bones. The couple had no other family that were able to take care of the now orphaned young girl, and she was taken to a foster home. The memories of the accident haunted her, and she had night terrors regularly, waking up in a cold sweat and gasping for air. It caused her to withdraw, and she became quiet and reserved. She was placed into therapy to try and help her deal with the loss of her parents, and eventually she began to show signs of improvement. Art was one of the things that helped her to express her grief and loneliness, and she continued to improve her painting skills over the years as she used it as her main emotional outlet.
When Ji-hyun turned 7, she was adopted by an American couple. Knowing absolutely no English, Ji-hyun was terrified of leaving Daegu and her friends behind to go to a completely new country. She begged the adults in the foster home to not make her go, but they promised that she would be safe and have a happy life, and would have more opportunities in America then she would have in her home country. So, reluctantly, she moved to Rockford, Illinois with her new family. Her name was legally changed to Katie, but she continued to refer to herself by her Korean name.
But, things didn't turn out the way that Ji-hyun had been told they would. She was enrolled in school, but the language barrier proved to be too much. Despite having special tutoring in English, Ji-hyun couldn't seem to learn fast enough for her new parents liking, and they were disappointed in her. Thus began the neglect. Because they couldn't communicate properly, her parents began to ignore Ji-hyun out of frustration, adopting another child and spending all their time and affection on their new son. Her teachers soon began to notice that Ji hyun was turning up to school dirty and hungry, and called social services who then got involved. By the time she turned 8 years old, Ji-hyun was back in foster care, this time in Chicago.
The experience left his distrustful of other people, and she kept herself very guarded, not speaking to anybody about personal matters and never showing signs of any emotion unless she was safely locked away in a room by herself. Her faith in humanity was gone, and left her bitter and cold towards the world even at such a young age.
A year passed, and Ji-hyun settled back into the routine of a foster home, until one day a new couple came along. A few weeks after meeting them, the news came that the Whitner's were going to adopt Ji-hyun. Yet again, she was scared and dubious. In her head, before even going to the family, she was expecting it not to last long, so she was stand-offish with the couple and with their other adopted children, not wanting to form any connections out of fear that they would end up being severed in a short time.
It wasn’t until a few months into this new chapter that Ji-hyun finally realised that she was now in a safe and loving home, with people that cared about her and wanted her to have a good and happy life. The realisation came from such a small gesture on the Whitner’s part, but a huge one for her. They asked her what she wanted to be called. So, not wanting to completely lose touch with her birth name that had become her only sense of identity over the years, and the only connection she had to her biological parents, she chose the name Jennifer. Her parents agreed to her keeping her surname, using it instead as a middle name. Thus, Jennifer Ahn Whitner became her legal name.
Despite knowing that she was finally in a safe space, that didn't change the struggles that Jennifer dealt with during school. The Whitner's did their best to help her learn English, but the kids at school picked on her because she was different and because she couldn't communicate with them properly.
Nevertheless, Jennifer was very intelligent and excelled in all other areas of her education, and eventually she became good enough at English that she could hold a full conversation, thanks to her parent's consistent tutoring and support, and the help of her adopted siblings. Once she got to high school, language was no longer an issue, but her accent was still prevalent. Kids were cruel, and the bullying continued. This drove her to develop depression and anxiety, and she became withdrawn and quiet. Throughout her dark times, she carried on painting, finding solace in art.  Yet again, she began therapy and threw herself into her studies, deciding that she wanted to become a veterinarian. She went off to college, and here she flourished. As she grew older, she became more confident in herself and her abilities, and finally started to develop a bit of a social life again. But, she still kept herself guarded, a defence mechanism that she just couldn't bring herself to let go of. It was hard for her to make friends because of it, but those who persevered and finally broke through her tough exterior are still close friends of hers to this day.
‏‏‎ ‎
PRESENT:
Recently graduated from veterinary college, Jennifer lives in her own apartment and works at a local animal clinic. She still keeps in contact with her foster parents, visiting them regularly and also maintaining strong relationships with her foster siblings.
She has continued on with her art, but only ever as a hobby. Her friends continue to push her to try and pursue it as a full-time career but she loves her job working with animals, and doesn't want to give that up. Despite that, she does commissioned work for people on the side, but because her job is so demanding already it's a rather rare occurrence.
‏‏‎ ‎
PERSONALITY:
At first, Jennifer can come across as rude and uninterested, but this is just her way of avoiding letting people get too close. It will take time to break down that tough, uncaring exterior she puts on, but once it's done, her true personality will come through. She can be volatile and insecure at times. She struggles to trust people and let them in, and rarely talks about her biological parents or her first foster family. The memories still haunt her from time to time, but she does her best to focus on the positives.
She returns to Daegu to visit her family as often as she can, and still speaks in her native tongue often, finally being proud of her Korean heritage and wanting to celebrate it rather than hide it to save herself from other people's judgement.
Her temper can change quickly when she feels vulnerable or threatened, and can be quite harsh when she's in a bad mood. She bears grudges for a long time, and if anybody upsets her she won't ever forget about it. She may forgive, but the relationship will never be the same again. At times she is also overly-sensitive, and small comments made can stick with her for a long time and cause quite a big impact on her, and leave her questioning her worth and abilities.
But, Jennifer is very compassionate. As seen from an early age, she has a very nurturing personality, and will look after anyone and anything that needs help. This quality is what makes her so good at her job - her caring nature and love for animals combined makes her a brilliant veterinarian.
With strangers, she can struggle to initiate conversations and it takes time to gain her trust, but once it’s done and she lets people see the real her, they will have a loyal friend and someone to lean on and be loved dearly by.
She is also incredibly tenacious, and once she puts her mind to something she will see it through no matter how difficult it may be at times.
Reassurance and small gestures of affection are her love language, both for herself and for others, so she will go out of her way to remind the people in her life how loved and important they really are.
‏‏‎ ‎
WANTED CONNECTIONS:
closest friend(s) - these will be the people she’s most comfortable around and can be completely herself with. they probably know a little bit about her past, but not the whole story
colleagues - fellow veterinarians, or other staff at the clinic
neighbours - she has her own apartment, so there’s a few options for neighbour type connections
ex-boyfriend - will have been during college years, can have ended on good or bad terms, could even still be feelings there if we wanna get real angsty with it
past hook-ups - again, probably during college years, can be awkward or not, i don’t mind
enemies - people that she doesn’t like or don’t like her, or someone from her past that did something to really upset her and she’s holding a grudge still
