Our Fun 70 Degree Day at Unicoi State Park near Hellen, GA.
Today we went to Unicoi State Park near Helen, GA. It is a Beautiful State park that me may camp At next year. It has an awesome mountain bike park as well as some great hiking. Tallulah Falls
Another wonderful hiking destination in Georgia is “Tallulah Falls”. Tallulah Falls is in Habersham County in the State of Georgia. It is close to the border of Tennessee and is great hiking spot with a large waterfall. Tallulah is a popular hiking spot for locals as well as tourists. Ever sense the 20th century, Tallulah Falls has been a hot spot resort for people from all over to come and witness its spectular overlook overlooking a gorge, a chasm that was carved over one million years ago by the Tallulah River. A fun fact that many people do not know is that Tallulah Falls was a filming location for the 1972 film “Deliverance”.
Tallulah Falls has an interesting backstory that not too many people know about. Before the settlers arrived in 1820, the Cherokee used to call Tallulah Falls “Ugunyi”. The Cherokee Indians were very cautious when it came to the falls. They tried to avoid the falls at all costs, while the settlers were in awe of its beauty and would often bring people from far away to look at the falls and take in its beauty. The town of Tallulah Falls was officially founded in 1885 and fast forward to 1992, 100 years after the city was founded the Tallulah Gorge State Park was created.
Tallulah Falls has a total of six waterfalls that cascade Tallulah Gorge which is a 1.000-foot chasm and is over two miles long. Visitors can hike the gorge floor but only 100 visitors per day can hike this part. Tallulah Falls also has its own park as well as biking trails. It is a family friendly park that also offers specialty coffee as well as sweets such as ice cream. There are several hiking trails close by. One of the most frequented trails is “The Short line Trail”, which is a 3-mile trail that follows along the Falls railroad bed. Another popular hiking spot within Tallulah Falls is a suspension bridge that sits 80 feet above the rocky floors. The bridge provides an amazing view of the many rivers and waterfalls at Tallulah. Another fun fact is that there have been two tightrope walkers that have crossed the gorge. The lake is also home to salamander species such as the trillium, and green salamander.
Tallulah Falls is one of favorite places to go to in Georgia. Even though the drive is about 2 hours’ worth a drive, when you get to Tallulah Falls and see the view it is worth the dive. I highly recommend people go visit Tallulah Falls especially in the summer so you can visit one of the many falls and go for a swim. It is an ideal place to go by yourself or with friends or even with a family. Kids will enjoy hiking through nature.
