The clones are easy enough to bribe. Some of them can be convinced to break the rules for something as small as a good scratch behind the audials. Starscream always knows how to sweeten the deal.

He only has a short window. Master and the Dream Demon are busy, which means he's having himself a little movie night.

They recorded every Patch from every prisoner. It's not that the files are off limits to Starscream. He just prefers to keep his homework to himself. Doing so also means he hasn't had Energon in days. The weaker their connection right now, the better.

He scrolls down, down, down. He's almost impressed that this many psychic invasions hadn't broken the Wrecker.

Or had they?

He stops on the keyword: Red.

Confirming once more that this viewing session won't be caught on surveillance, he loads the stolen memories.

Somewhere on Earth, two bots share a cygar.

"I'll win the next one," Wheeljack says to his companion. Knock Out looks relaxed and at ease with him. They chat and laugh as the sun sets.

Starscream knows this isn't their Knock Out. It's likely not even their Earth either.

He opens another.

A loud memory. In the corner of a club, Wheeljack and Knock Out are taking a break from dancing. They grab a few shots from a server. "You're hot as frag, ya know that?" Wheeljack shouts over the music. "Sorry! Had to say it."

Scroll. Click.

A quiet memory. Wheeljack is still, sitting on the edge of his berth while Knock Out tends to a wound on his helm.

"Thanks, Red..." the Wrecker says sheepishly. "Doc'd flip if he knew. I can't go through another eval. Last time they made me stay at the silo for months."

He sighs. "I'm stayin' away for a while."

Starscream taps the console with his claws. Maybe a few more.

Wheeljack is on his knees, his arms covered in coolant and oil. "Hand me that wrench?" he asks his friend.

He shifts a little awkwardly while he works, glancing at Knock out a few times.

"Hey, uh..." he starts cautiously. "I’m really sorry. About Starscream."

The commander leans forward.

"For what it's worth, he knows ya cared about him. And he cared about you. Even if he acted like a glitch about it."

Starscream pauses the playback. Briefly, he tries to imagine how this alternate of his could have perished.

No. Maybe he shouldn't.

He looks back up. On the monitor, Knock Out's optics are turned down in thought.

Starscream sneers and closes the file. Before slipping away to his quarters, he erases any trace of his browsing.

He'll leave mind-invasion to Megatron and Soundwave. He prefers a different way of getting his claws on information.
